ECW Heat Wave 2006 Preview!

Previous Episode:
<hr color=black>

hdO7QWl.png

Sunday July 30th, 2006 - ECW returns to pay-per-view! Heat Wave 2006, live from the Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania!

Going into the event, three huge matches have dominated ECW in recent weeks, perhaps none more important than the ECW World Championship match between Rob Van Dam and the ECW Television Champion, CM Punk. Originally allies within the new ECW, recent events - including an apparent “private meeting” between Punk and “The Chief of ECW” Paul Heyman - have led to suspicion and doubt around the integrity of CM Punk. A man proud of his own strong belief system, CM Punk took the questions personally, and “washed his hands” of the ECW Originals. While he’s made it clear that he has no intention of taking up The Hustle on their offer of a place in the “Revolution”, the only real answers will come in the Main Event of Heat Wave 2006.

Another rivalry which will come to ahead at Heat Wave will be that between “The King of Pro-Wrestling” Steve Corino, and the man he dubbed “The King of The Cockroaches”, Terry Funk. Since returning to ECW, saving Tommy Dreamer from an attack from Corino’s Extreme Horsemen, Funk has been looking to face Corino in a one on one match. Steve Corino initially refused, stating “beating you wouldn’t just make you look bad… it’d make me look bad”. Eventually he came round to the idea, claiming that Funk was practically “begging” to be put out of his misery. Annoyed at being lumped in with the rest of the “ECW Originals”, Corino sees Heat Wave as the chance to set himself apart, and take out one of the most iconic figures in ECW history.

Despite the personal aspects of the above matches, no match arguably has more riding on it than Paul Heyman vs. Tommy Dreamer. Former allies, it has been said that these two men are the sole reason that ECW was resurrected earlier this year. Having fought to bring back the company they loved, the revelation that Paul Heyman was looking to faze out the Originals, including Tommy Dreamer, was a dagger in the chest of the “Heart & Soul of ECW”. Behind the group of New Breed talent who seemed hell-bent on ending the careers of Dreamer and his contemporaries, Paul Heyman has tried to justify his betrayal as being what is best for the future of ECW. His vision of the “New ECW” didn’t include the likes of Sandman and Tommy Dreamer in prominent positions, the former having his career ended at the hands of Heyman’s Hustle’s Sonny Siaki.

Shockingly, just two weeks before Heat Wave, Paul Heyman accepted Tommy Dreamer’s challenge to a match at the event, but added a huge stipulation to the contest. Now the most important fight of Dreamer’s career, if he is unable to pick up the win over Heyman, he is fired from ECW… and his wrestling career is over!

Also at Heat Wave, Masato Tanaka returns to ECW, going one on one with fellow FMW alumni Mammoth Sasaki. The two Japanese stars will bring their style of wrestling to Extreme Championship Wrestling, in a huge face off between two competitors who know each other well. Likewise, two sides of the coin within the “New Breed” of ECW talent will face off, as The Hustle’s Low-Ki takes on Brent Albright. “The Warrior” and “The Shooter” both have excellent records since ECW’s return, and will be one of the few matches that is expected to be contained to the ring.

That isn’t all we will see of The Hustle at Heat Wave however, as Homicide is set to go to war with the “Homicid-al, Genocidal, Suicidal, Death-Defying” Sabu. Involved in many physical encounters over the first 6 months of ECW CyberSlam, their first singles match will surely see blood shed and bodies broken, as they hold nothing back in the battle between The Hustle and The Originals. A second title match will also take place on the evening, as The Havana Pitbulls make their first ECW World Tag Team Championships defence, against Johnny Kashmere & Trent Acid. Allies of the Originals, and impressive throughout their time in ECW, Kashmere & Acid will look to take the titles from Ricky Reyes & Rocky Romero. Like everybody else involved in the event however, they will be aware that in the “New ECW”, competition is more fierce than ever, and they will have to “Bring The Heat”… at Heat Wave 2006!<hr color=black>

ECW World Championship

Rob Van Dam © vs. CM Punk

Van Dam retains. Punk will give him a great run for his money, it's a huge defense, but he doesn't lose it yet. Another prediction, Punk doesn't turn heel yet. We need a feud with Sandman for that. And with Funk. And finally with Raven

ECW World Tag Team Championships

The Havana Pitbulls © vs. Johnny Kashmere & Trent Acid

Kashmere and Acid, two CZW guys, challenging for the ECW titles? Can you say extreme dream match? Pitbulls however retain. Win 3 for The Hustle. It's a clean sweep.

Bull Rope Match

Steve Corino vs. Terry Funk

Nice choice of opponent. Funk is the spirit of ECW. Never die. King of Cockroaches? =)))))) Awesome line. Corino needs another clean win.

If Tommy Dreamer loses, he is FIRED from ECW!

Paul Heyman vs. Tommy Dreamer

Where was Heyman's security? They will probably be at the PPV, but you won't fire Tommy. Tommy is THE MAN in ECW. Sure, him and Corino didn't have the best main-event, but you can't spell ECW without Tommy. Heyman will debut a henchman, Dreamer has his own backup. A man screwed by Paul E. Can you say "Enter"? Yes, Sandman needs to be back. Heck, if you bring two new guys to help Heyman , a tag match with Dreamer and Sandman, two ECW ICONS, is exactly what they would need.

Mammoth Sasaki vs. Masato Tanaka

Tanaka returns with a strong win. Whose side is he on? Tanaka is a great addition, seriously. If you book him as a tweener kicking ass and just never talking, he could be a star for you. Just a suggestion , of course.

Homicide vs. Sabu

The Genocidal, Homicidal Maniac vs The Leader of the Hustle, the Extreme Gangsta? Take my money. Seriously, great idea. Homicide wins. He needed the interference to win the tag match, but now he leads by example. Win 2 for The Hustle.

Brent Albright vs. Low-Ki

Hardest choice. But you seem intent on putting Ki over as this silent assassin. The Shooter has been booked also strong, either way a good match for the PPV. Win 1 for the Hustle

ECW.com Preview - Episode #25 of ECW CyberSlam

Previous Show:

<hr color=black>
D9wRP3R.png

After the shocking events of Sunday's Heat Wave 2006, CyberSlam returns to
with the fallout from ECW's return to pay-per-view. Amongst the talking points were the surprising debuts of Raven and Rhino, each making their first appearances in the "new" ECW. Their involvement raised more questions than they answered, as Raven saved the career of his long-term rival Tommy Dreamer, and Rhino attacked both competitors from the night's Main Event!

Both making their impact felt, it is hoped that the two former ECW World Champions will offer some explanation for their actions... despite neither of them having been in contact with anybody since Sunday.

Elsewhere, Terry Funk will look for revenge against Steve Corino, getting another chance to face him, this time in a Six Man Tag Team match. Terry Funk will be joined by Balls Mahoney & Tommy Dreamer, while Corino's Extreme Horsemen partners will by his side. Funk was humiliated by Corino after the bell at Heat Wave, and will be fired up for CyberSlam's Main Event.

Also following up from Heat Wave is the match between Kevin Fertig and Johnny Swinger. At the pay-per-view, when Fertig interrupted Elijah Burke in the ring, Johnny Swinger felt his wrath, falling to a Chokeslam. Swinger will get a chance at revenge this week, but would likely rather be anywhere else in the world. Low-Ki vs. Tony Mamaluke makes up the match card on the night, for what promises to be a hard-hitting episode of ECW CyberSlam!<hr>

Match Card

Balls Mahoney, Terry Funk & Tommy Dreamer vs. Extreme Horsemen (C.W. Anderson, Steve Corino & Stevie Richards)

Kevin Fertig vs. Johnny Swinger

Low-Ki vs. Tony Mamaluke

<hr>Really enjoyed your reasoning for the PPV predictions Pitbull!

Enjoyed the video, keep it up!

Thanks, got quite a bit planned out so it should keep going for a while.

Oof, guess Mammoth Sasaki isn't that good in the database? Or was it partially an issue of pop?

Yeah, I think it might be a bit of both. He's 4 pop in the Tri-State, so I'm sure that was a big part of it. Going to be quite the job to get him over if I decide to keep using him.

Predictions and review

I will touch on a couple of points.

Negatives: Homicide losing. Yes, i get that you have brought back Rhyno , but Homicide has been your lead heel. No shame in him losing to Sabu, but a win would have catapulted him into a title picture.

Brent's push ending: I called the Low-Ki win, but i was expecting a sort of "redemption" style of angle. You wrote him off entirely. Can't say i fault you for that , but a bit more patience and Brent could have been a huge babyface for you.

No teasing of Tanaka's allegiances. Is he your Samoa Joe? Looks that way. Interested to see where he goes next, but i would have liked to see some sort of character development.

Positives What a storytelling idea to bring back Raven. The past they have , their Tag Team Title run, just perfect. Great execution

Punk not turning heel. Hell yes. Punk at this point needs a beer reason to turn heel. If Sandman wasn't a "one-off", that is the feud to have him turn.

Corino winning. Builds nicely this "wrestlers" vs hardcore icon feud, with Corino getting dirty when needed. Loved the win, the segment, pretty much everything.

Predictions:

Balls Mahoney, Terry Funk & Tommy Dreamer vs. Extreme Horsemen (C.W. Anderson, Steve Corino & Stevie Richards)

Heyman has something to say about this. Funk and Mahoney though makes so much sense

Kevin Fertig vs. Johnny Swinger

Squash

Low-Ki vs. Tony Mamaluke

Ki wins, takes out Mamaluke, Guido reverts to a shooter like gimmick and ,with Brent out of the big singles matches, you have an already made storyline with Guido and Brent as this menthor/student tag team
