PROFESSIONAL FIGHTERS LEAGUE - SEASON 2022 PRESS CONFERENCE

This afternoon the PFL held the 2022 season press conference.

League president Ray Sefo announced the news for the next two seasons in the men's division.

"In the next two seasons, we will have fighters going up and down divisions, this one will go up." referring that Light Heavyweight, Welterweight, Featherweight and Flyweight fighters will be joining Heavyweight, Middleweights, Lightweights and Bantamweights.

With this announcement, many questions about the Heavyweights would have a hard time lowering the Light Heavyweight season 2023.

"We expect a great season with big fights, it would be almost like 4 grand prix openweight, and next season we will also have other great classics, but we know that going down is harder than going up and some fighters will be out of season, but still in action in the Fight Night. "

There were also rumors of the change of structure for the coming seasons and Sefo said why the change was not made.

"The expectation was to hold two rounds of playoffs, with the champions already entering the quarterfinals. But the dates would be very tight and the champions want to stay active at the pace. In this format they will fight only in September."

The season will start in February and will have all fights broadcast on PPV Stream on FITE TV, featuring Mike Goldberg and Bas Rutten and complete coverage with pre fight / post fight and play-by-play reviews on the blurcat.com website.

PROFESSIONAL FIGHTERS LEAGUE - SEASON 2022

INJURIES AND REPLACEMENTS

PFL will have a pool of alternate fighters to draw from in the event that one of the 12 fighters in each division suffers an injury that prevents him from continuing.

- Alternates will make show/win amounts and their fights will count towards the final playoff totals.

- In the event that one of the 12 fighters is deemed ineligible for his first fight, the 13th fighter will be added as a replacement.

- In the event that the commission deems fighter A unfit to compete, the PFL will book an alternate fighter to compete against fighter B. In the event that there is no time to book an alternate, fighter B will be awarded a Walkover (three points) as well as his win.

MISSING WEIGHT

If an athlete misses weight for a regular season fight, they will forfeit 15 percent of their purse. The athlete will still be able to compete – contingent up other fighter agreeing – but will earn zero points for that match.

If that athlete misses weight a second time during the regular season, they will be removed from the competition for the season.

If the Athletic Commission calls off a fight – for any reason – the fighter who is unable to compete will earn zero points while their opponent, will be awarded a three points.

Walkover example: Fighter A is facing fighter B in the first round of the regular season.

Fighter A becomes ill and is not medically cleared to fight by the state athletic commission. If a suitable replacement opponent is not secured, Fighter B will be awarded three points.

Any fighter that fails to make their contracted weight during the playoff or championship round will be ruled ineligible and removed from the competition. The next seeded alternate (9,10,11,12,alternate fighter) will be summoned to join the season and take the fight.
