I have no idea how I screwed up the card preview I posted yesterday, but I somehow managed to just repost the previous one instead of the new one. Here is the REAL preview for April.

TNBT Resistance

Sunday Week 3 April 2002

Live from The Basement, Toronto Bar and Grill

Julian Watson and Eddie Chandler had major problems with each other last time around, shockingly being defeated by The Maryland Alliance in tag action after each making short work of the Alliance individually. They're going to face off in a rematch of their excellent tourney bout to see who's the better man - and the winnner will go on to face Zeus Maxmillion for the belt in the main event!

The Alliance will also return to action, as they take on The Big Problem in a handicap match.

And we'll see the debut of a highly-rated youngster, as Greg Black goes up against New York Red!

Plus, Stan Manna performs live! And a mystery match!

Prediction key:

Greg Black vs New York Red

Eddie Chandler vs Julian Watson

The Big Problem vs The Maryland Alliance

TNBT Ontario title match: Zeus Maxmillion © vs winner of Chandler/Watson

Guess the mystery match (both wrestlers have appeared so far, and aren't otherwise in action):

Guess the mystery match (both wrestlers have appeared so far, and aren't otherwise in action): Art Reed vs Benson with Reed winning

Edit - Since the Phenomenal One won’t be on the card, I’ll adjust my pick. I agree with the Stan Manna pick below but since I didn’t choose it originally I go with Reed’s pal Benson

Reed gets the win

I was puzzled by Ed Larkin. The kid was a nice guy, with a talent for... well, not wrestling exactly, but throwing himself around a wrestling ring in such a way that wrestling fans reacted, which was pretty close. He seemed keen to learn, a real fan of the business, and someone who could have a chance of succeeding.

The only problem was, the kid was never where he was meant to be anywhere near the time he was meant to be there. I'd talked to him after the first show, and been told "Sorry, Mr Brayfield, sir. I'll do my best not to let it happen again." Second show, he'd been even later. He turned up panting and out of breath, just as I was about to try and rearrange things to get someone else to go out there and job to The Big Problem. He'd been just in time, and I'd sent him out there, and he'd done a great job of selling for Petr.

Then I'd spoken to him after the show. I'd told him I was fining him a decent chunk of his wages, for the second show in a row, and he'd nodded. "Yes sir, I understand."

I'd asked him to explain why he was late to me, and he'd just frozen completely. Eventually, he'd said "I'm sorry, Mr Brayfield, I just can't tell you. I swear there was a good reason, both times."

The annoying thing was, he seemed so sincere, I believed him. But as I'd said to him, "Son, I'm sorry, I'm gonna have to be a hardass here. We're just getting off the ground, we need people to follow the rules, and see what happens if they don't. And if there's not a damn good reason for you being late for two shows..."

"There is, Mr Brayfield," he interjected pleadingly.

I glared at him. "A damn good reason you're actually willing to share with me, then I'm not gonna be able to book you anymore. Sorry, kid. That's just the way it is."

When I saw the way his shoulders slumped, I felt so bad for him that I nearly backed down. But I knew that controlling a locker room was tough, and the last thing I wanted was everybody working for us thinking they could turn up when they liked with no or little consequences. "Last chance, kid." I warned him.

He shook his head in despair. "Mr Brayfield, I wish I could tell you, really I do. Thank you for the opportunity, and I'm sorry I let you down."

I went to say something else to him - to wish him luck in the future, at least - but he got up and practically ran out of the room before I could open my mouth again.

TNBT Resistance

Sunday Week 3 April 2002

Live from The Basement, Toronto Bar and Grill

Devorah Triton comes out and fires T-Shirts into the crowd. C-

s4iBtvu.jpgchwV06n.jpgS7jD18d.jpg

A freestyle segment called 'Crane Wants Shot As He Nearly Pinned Zeus, Reed Disagrees, Black Mediates' featuring Benson Crane, Art Reed and Greg Black. E

Greg Black's Fun Babyface gimmick gets Awful.

Basic story here is Crane points out that in the three-way he'd have pinned Zeus if the ref wasn't down so should be next in line for a title shot, Reed argues, and Black reminds them that they're buds and it's not worth falling out over - instead, they should wrestle for the chance to take on the champ.

s4iBtvu.jpg vs chwV06n.jpg

In a decent match, Art Reed defeated Benson Crane in 12:12 by submission with a Dread Lock. E+

Okay, I NEVER want to hear a scream again like that one I heard from Crane after Reed botched a move here. The two go to a finish quickly, but things look BAD for Benson.

dA289YV.jpg vs Hq2l1zD.jpg9dyc56r.jpg

In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, The Big Problem defeated The Maryland Alliance in a Handicap match in 6:20 when The Big Problem defeated Buck Graham by submission. E

The crowd still hate Graham, but we're about to deal with that.

dA289YV.jpgHq2l1zD.jpg

Buck Graham is still in the ring. The Big Problem continues the attack. The assault is quick and brutal, and leaves Buck Graham completely destroyed. E+

yrdlj9d.jpgdA289YV.jpg

Boss Man Brayfield had an interview hyping the potential singles match between his client The Big Problem and Zeus Maxmillion, warning that since Zeus doesn't want to join us, the attacks WILL continue until TBP gets a shot at the gold. D

TBP looks great again.

LJGpvpR.jpg vs ilPcxLe.jpg

In a decent match, Julian Watson defeated Eddie Chandler in 11:19 by pinfall with a Tiger Claw DDT. E+

These two both have bad nights on the same day. Ouch. Also notable, Chandler is in control at one point until Triton pulls him off, claiming he used a closed fist. As Chandler denies this, he falls victim to a low blow which EVERYBODY except Devorah can see.

ilPcxLe.jpg

Julian Watson has an interview in which he taunts Zeus Maxmillion. D-

S7jD18d.jpg vs GYGTJe4.jpg

In a bout that had terrible wrestling and non-existent crowd heat, Greg Black defeated New York Red in 7:53 by pinfall with a Bling Thing.

New York Red's Old School Heel gimmick gets Poor.

NYR is rusty. And just not very good. Black is yet another person having an off-night.

p7TaDiS.jpg

A freestyle segment called 'Manna Rock Concert' featuring Stan Manna. E-

On the one hand, this isn't very good. On the other hand, it's no worse than a lot of other stuff tonight.

1AnGDUc.jpg

Zeus Maxmillion has an interview in which he taunts Julian Watson, while also saying TBP isn't anywhere near ready for a shot at his title. D+

1AnGDUc.jpg vs ilPcxLe.jpg

In a decent match, Zeus Maxmillion defeated Julian Watson in 11:50 by pinfall with a Thunder Bolt. Zeus Maxmillion makes defence number 2 of his TNBT Ontario title. D

Okay, THIS is why I pay Zeus about four times as much as my next highest guy. These two segments (along with Devorah's T-shirt shooting) totally save the show. Slightly worried that they both look tired after less than 12 minutes, but that's a minor worry compared to how awful most of the rest was.

Next up on tnbtwrestling.tripod.com, we have the champ himself, Zeus Maxmillion.

What's your crowning achievement so far in your career? You know, that's a tough question. I want to say winning the TNBT belt; to become the first champion should be something special. But as good as I was on the night I won, I was deprived of the chance to go through three men, as Eddie Chandler would have had to do, because some loudmouth Texan thought that I'd want his help. So I'm not sure if winning this would count as a crowning achievement. But keeping it for a long, long time, as I intend to do, surely would.

What other sports do you enjoy? I spent my childhood over in Greece, where my parents come from. There's a proud tradition of sporting excellence in the village I grew up in there, and I was a top star in both soccer and basketball. There were two Greek basketball teams who wanted me to turn pro, but wrestling has always been my first love.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years' time? 5 years ago, my career was getting started. I was establishing myself in NOTBPW. I had my sights set on rising through the ranks there, becoming the Canadian champion. All that changed when it closed without warning. 5 years from now, who knows where I'll be? But wherever I am, I'll be one of the stars there.

What do you think of Toronto as a city? Like the Bronzed God himself, Toronto is beautiful, and there's more to it than meets the eye. When I first moved to Canada in 1995, I was living over in New Brunswick, and Toronto's reputation was that it a sleepy city with nothing much to recommend it. Since moving here, though, I'm enjoying Kensington Market and Little Tokyo. I even caught sight of that superhero, The Black Mask, the day before our last show; he stopped another robbery.

What do you do to relax when you're not training? I spend a lot of time training; keeping my body like this takes hard work. But sometimes I watch TV; there's a new show called The Osbournes that just starte, following Ozzy Osbourne and his family. I'm a big Black Sabbath fan. I mean, I can't say I like the way Ozzy lives his life, but you have to respect anyone who's been active as long as he has.

Post-show, I complimented Zeus and Dev, who smiled, and Julian, who seemed really pleased.</p><p> </p><p>

I then came across Art Reed, who was in tears. I sigh. "Art, I'm sorry. Have you heard anything?"</p><p> </p><p>

He stopped crying for long enough to shake his head. "Greg's phone is switched off."</p><p> </p><p>

"That probably just means he's in the hospital. Come on, let's get a taxi and we'll go and see for ourselves."</p><p> </p><p>

He shook his head. "Would Benson even want to see me, though? He's there because of me!" </p><p> </p><p>

"Whoa, whoa, whoa." I grabbed him by the shoulders. "What happened in the ring was an accident. It was a horrible, terrible thing to happen, yeah. But Benson will know that you would never have deliberately hurt him. You guys trained with the Stones. Are you telling me Dan and Jeremy didn't drill into your head from the very first day that sometimes, <bleep> happens."</p><p> </p><p>

He nodded.</p><p> </p><p>

"But I put the Dread Lock on, after he'd already been hurt. What if that extra time made things worse?"</p><p> </p><p>

"Dev told me that Benson said to do it, and she called for the submission straight away, Art. I don't think there WAS any extra time, we had people coming down with a stretcher as soon as we heard that scream."</p><p> </p><p>

"Oh, God. That scream. I don't think I'll ever forget it, Boss Man."</p><p> </p><p>

"It was pretty bad, Art. Not gonna lie. But you have to remember, people get injured all the time. And they come back just as good."</p><p> </p><p>

"Not always," he shook his head. "Think about Hoshino. Johnny Martin. Rick Sanders."</p><p> </p><p>

I nodded. "But think about Jay Darkness. He came back from two injuries and he's doing better than ever before. Hell, how about Victoria Stone. You'd never have known she was out for over a year."</p><p> </p><p>

He calmed slightly at this point. </p><p> </p><p>

"So, let's go see him. We'll see how things are going." </p><p> </p><p>

"Thanks, boss." He said, standing up. "I gotta tell you something, though. After what happened out there... I don't know if I can do this any more."</p><p> </p><p>

I nodded in sympathy. "Art, I don't think that's a decision you should make tonight, okay? Plenty of time to figure it out. But whatever you choose to do, I'll respect your decision. You have my word on that."</p>

After three shows of people having fun, enjoying our newness, the atmosphere tonight is very different. I tell Reed and Black to skip the meeting, worried they'll bring the rest down, but it feels almost funereal in there anyway.</p><p> </p><p>

Post-show, I headed back to our hotel. A bunch of the guys were staying at a cheap chain hotel whenever we had a show; me and Jenny has found an independent one closer to the venue which suited us just fine. I wanted to be slightly distant from the roster, and it was a better atmosphere for romance, anyway.</p><p> </p><p>

I got back to the room to find that Dev had beaten me to it. She was the only other TNBT employee staying in the same place as us; Jenny had pointed out it made sense for the booker and assistant booker to be able to swap ideas after the show. Before we did, though, there was something I wanted to ask her.</p><p> </p><p>

“Dev? I know you talk to a ton of people in the business. Are you friendly with anyone who works for SWF?”</p><p> </p><p>

She shook her head. “No friends there, no. A few friends of friends.”</p><p> </p><p>

“Heard anything interesting about them recently?” I asked. There’s been a story doing the rounds which seemed totally unbelievable, but was intriguing.</p><p> </p><p>

She laughed. “You’ve heard it too then?” Smiling, she shook her head. “I’ve heard tons of rumours; I don’t believe any of them. Just because Eisen hasn’t been seen for a while doesn’t mean anything happened to him. Remember he barely used to appear on screen at all.”</p><p> </p><p>

"There's a difference between barely appearing on screen and not being seen on screen or in public for, what, a year now? Especially since he missed calls with investors as well. That doesn't seem like Eisen. Do you think one of the rumours could be true?"</p><p> </p><p>

"I mean, I guess ONE of them could be. Do I think he could be ill? Yeah, but I hope not. Do I think he could want to pass over to Jerry without scaring shareholders by doing it officially? Sure. Do I think he's the Black Mask guy who was around here a few months ago, or that he's fallen into a vat of liquid nitrogen, or that he's been gored by a moose, and they're covering it up? Not a chance."</p><p> </p><p>

Jenny laughed. "Is that really what they're saying?"</p><p> </p><p>

"I'm hearing SO MUCH stuff," Dev giggled in response. "People are crazy." </p><p> </p><p>

"Anyway, who cares about Eisen?" Jenny smiled. "Aren't we meant to be celebrating another amazing show? Great work, you two. Jackson, do you think Petr's got what it takes as champion?"</p><p> </p><p>

I shrugged. "He's big, and he's got a great look. He's no Zeus, but he doesn't have his price tag, either." </p><p> </p><p>

"So you're in the money?" Jenny asked. </p><p> </p><p>

"I definitely wouldn't go that far, but should help us survive longer, yeah."</p><p> </p><p>

"Why don't you spend some of your savings on champagne, Jackson?" Jenny asked me pleadingly.</p><p> </p><p>

"Fine," I laughed. "I'll go get some. But don't tell Eddie!"</p>

Andrew Brookfield says that the vicious attacks by The Big Problem MUST stop, or the Board of Directors will take action.

Brookfield's Inspirational Leader gimmick gets Below Average.

In a decent match, Julian Watson defeated Ryan Powell in 7:46 by pinfall with a Tiger Claw DDT. E+

Powell's having an off night, and still rusty, but this isn't bad.

VMWi2b5.jpg vs vRBTPzm.jpg

In a decent match, Bobby Thomas defeated Cal Sanders in 16:26 by pinfall with a Specialist Touch. E

Bobby is tiring towards the end of this Technical Masterclass (don't ask; details of WHY in the follow-up post) and it's poorly placed.

I jeer at Brookfield, saying that the attacks will continue for as long as we want them to. "What are you gonna do, strip your champion of his belt?" D+

In a decent match, The Big Problem defeated Eddie Chandler in 5:57 by pinfall. The Big Problem makes defence number 1 of his TNBT Ontario title. D

TBP has a lot of momentum, but Eddie is STILL a miracle worker to get this good a match out of him.

dA289YV.jpgLJGpvpR.jpgilPcxLe.jpgvRBTPzm.jpg

Eddie Chandler gets beaten down by The Big Problem. Cal Sanders and Julian Watson come out from the back, hit the ring, and clean house, saving Eddie Chandler. D-

D overall, raising our popularity in 1 region.

Bobby, Eddie, TBP praised.

Sunday Week 1 July 2002

Live from The Basement, Toronto Bar and Grill

Bobby Thomas and Ryan Powell won their 3 match series against Julian Watson and Cal Sanders 2-1 last month; this has given them the opportunity to get a title shot at The Big Problem. First, they'll face off, then, the winner takes on TBP!

And we have another mini-tournament begin, as debutants Owen Love and Ron Greenhorn go against Cal Sanders and Eddie Chandler, with the winners squaring off later on this month (yes! We're going bi-monthly!) for a shot at the belt.

Prediction Key:

Eddie Chandler vs Ron Greenhorn

Cal Sanders vs Owen Love

Eddie Chandler/Cal Sanders vs Ron Greenhorn/Owen Love

Bobby Thomas vs Ryan Powell

Back on tnbtwrestling.tripod.com, it's the new champ, The Big Problem!

dA289YV.jpg

Have you always wanted to be a wrestler? What do you think? Why are you asking me such a foolish question? Seeing a body like this, why would I NOT be a wrestler?

Where do you see yourself in 5 years' time? I see myself at the top of our sport. Boss Man Brayfield will bring men to me and I will knock them down. I will do this in TNBT, and then I will do this in larger companies. All will fall to The Big Problem!

What's the biggest lesson you've learnt so far in your career? I don't learn lessons. I teach lessons. Like I taught Art Reed and Greg Black how to fall through tables.

If you could wrestle one person from any time in history, who would you face off against? Ares Aegaleus, in his prime. The Greek God was the best big man ever. Until now, at least. I would show him that The Big Problem was even better.

What message do you have for the fans of TNBT? Cheer me, boo me. I don't care. But get used to seeing this belt around my waist.

OOC: My attempt at explaining the most annoying product shift I have EVER had forced on me by an owner.

yrdlj9d.jpgLJGpvpR.jpg

Flashback - day before previous show. I was called to meet Eddie, urgently. "Okay," he said, "I think I know where we're going wrong."

"I'm listening, Eddie."

"We need to provide something different for people in Canada."

"Uh huh. I mean, I thought we were doing that just by existing, and employing men?"

He shook his head. "It's not different enough. You know, now that people in Canada can see HGC once a week and SWF twice a week, we have to stand out from them."

I nodded. "Yeah, agreed. Were you thinking of something in particular?"

"We need more wrestling."

"More wrestling?" I looked puzzled, although possibly not as puzzled as I felt. "You mean more shows?"

He shook his head. "No, I mean more GOOD wrestling, dammit. None of this cheap victory stuff. That low blow from Watson on me a few months ago? I should have told you it was a terrible idea, but I was trying to let you have free rein as booker."

"Okay," I took a deep breath. "Not going to lie, Eddie, if you hated it that much I wish you HAD told me. So you want us to just use clean finishes?"

Pacing up and down the room, he nodded. "You know where the Stones went wrong?"

I shook my head, this time.

"They focused on stuff other than the wrestling."

I tried to pick my jaw up off the floor.

"You think the STONES focused too much on non-wrestling. Dan, Jeremy, Dan Sr, Duane. THOSE Stones? The ones people used to call Soulless Wrestling Machines?"

My sarcasm was ignored. "They had the right idea, sure. But people are crying out for great technical matches, amazing pure wrestling. Jackson, that's what we're going to give them."

I sighed. "And you couldn't have made this decision BEFORE I put the belt on Petr Novak."

He had the grace to look at least slightly embarrassed. "Hey, championship reigns were made to end, right?"

Back in the hotel, I spent three or four hours straight ranting to Dev and Jenny about the stupidity of it all. Somehow, we came up with some ideas, despite Dev's disappointment at this completely destroying the plans we had for her joining up with Watson as a manager.

"Looks like we may need you as a referee for a while longer," I told her. "Not sure if the sponsors are going to be as keen as Eddie thinks people will be here."

So did Eddie mess with your product? Is that what happened back there?

Yeah, sorry, should prob have posted details. He made a ton of changes but the key ones - Traditional went from Key to Heavy, Mainstream went from Medium to Low, as did Modern. Realism went from Medium to Key and Pure went from Low to Heavy. Just the kind of product you want want for a company with The Big Problem as the Champion!!
