THE MALENKOS W/JIMMY HART VS THE MULKEYS

After some time away the Malenkos are back along with their loudmouth manager Jimmy Hart. They look like they haven’t missed a beat, in fact they look better than before when it comes to smooth tags and transitions. They dominate the match before they hit their old finisher. Dean puts Randy Mulkey in the Texas Cloverleaf and Joe hits a running knee drop on the back of Randy’s head. He’s out cold and the referee calls for the bell.

Hart says ‘We’re Baaaaaaaaaaack!” and tells us that he and his men have been all over the world beating the biggest and the best the world of wrestling has to offer but now they’re back in Jim Crockett Promotions and there’s only one thing they want...gold! World Tag Titles or US Tag Titles it doesn’t matter sooner or later the gold will be around the waists of the best technical tag team in the world!

Adams puts the young champ to the test and on several occasions seems to have Houston where he wants him but Sam digs deep with tenacity and makes a strong comeback, staggering Admas with a series of punches and chops. Adams whips him into the ropes and tries for the superkick but Houston ducks it. When Adams turns around he gets a kick in the gut and Houston then hits the bulldog for the win.

Tony Schavone welcomes the NWA United States Champion, Macho Man Randy Savage and his Woman. He asks Savage if he’s further considered Ricky Steamboat’s challenge but Savage cuts him off and says Ricky Steamboat is no challenge, he’s a proven loser. Now he wants what the Macho Man has but no no, down to the bottom of the barrel and unlike himself, Ricky Steamboat doesn’t have enough cream to rise to the top. So now Savage wants the whole world to watch what he does in the ring and understand why he’s the best in the world.

Savage wastes no time as soon as the bell rings as he charges Blair and doesn’t let up. Blair sells like crazy for the beatdown which seems to come from every angle and direction as Savage has a motor that doesn’t quit. Savage plants Blair on the mat and then climbs to the top, soaring off with his big elbow drop for the impressive victory.

Rick Rude dominates the interview pointing out that people can say whatever they want but it doesn’t change the fact he and Jimmy have the gold and that is all that matters. He further tells us they have the secret weapon in the super-sexy Missy and that is something that no one can match.

NIKITA KOLOFF W/IVAN KOLOFF VS OWEN HART

Koloff walks out calmly to the middle of the ring, daring Hart to hit him. Hart lays into him with forearm shots but nothing fazes him. From the corner Uncle Ivan shouts out something that sounds like Russian and Koloff goes berserk. He batters Hart for several minutes with incredible power before ending it with the Russian Sickle.

When we come back from the commercial, Jim Ross is joined by Jake Roberts and Roberts has placed a large canvas bag on the desk which is writhing to Ross’ complete discomfort. Roberts takes great pleasure in that. He says everyone wants to know what’s in the bag and offers to open it right then and there but Ross stops him. Roberts just smiles coldly and says the mystery will be revealed in all due time at a time and place of his choosing but if you want a hint he supposes you could say it’s a source of inspiration for him. Something that reminds him of who he really is. When Ross asks what that means Roberts just quips ‘just keep watching.’

Michaels and Jannetty take a beating in this one. Nothing they do affects either Hawk or Animal and the Road Warriors spend the match throwing them around and overpowering them. Jannetty eats a Doomsday Device at the end.

Tony Schiavone welcomes the American Dream to the set. Rhodes in very casual attire of jeans, a t-shirt and ball cap. His right eye is also patched.

Dusty says he’s been on the mend since the Bayou Battle. Now normally, he’d be here to tell the world that he’s hot on Ric Flair’s heels and he’s going to get that NWA World Heavyweight title back. But the fact is he spent over a week in the hospital after that match and it wasn’t due to anything that happened from bell to bell. It was the attack on him afterwards. When the Four Horsemen jumped him like a pack of dogs and then Ric Flair hit him in the face with that title belt. The fact is the American Dream was almost blinded when that title belt struck his eye and nearly ruptured it.

“Nature Boy Ric Flair….Four Horsemen….you tried to take my eye! So no, this isn’t about that big gaudy belt you’re carrying around. This is about more than that. This is about...an eye..for an eye. I don’t want Ric Flair at Starrcade. I don’t want Tully Blanchard. I don’t want the Andersons. I want the whole lot of you! But I ain’t alone baby. I will build a team and we will go to war.”

Rhodes smiles a little and tells us he spent those days and nights in the hospital thinking of this. He took a notepad and with his good eye he began to draw the instrument of his revenge. He holds up the notepad showing the camera a rudimentary sketch of a large steel cage and two rings. Rhodes says it’s up to the Horsemen to accept their fate but if they do, he wants them to look him in the one eye they left him. He will hold nothing back. He will do to them what they tried to do to him. He will beat them like the dogs they are and then they will understand why you don’t screw around with the American Dream!

Schiavone thanks us for watching as the show ends.

And of course a huge main event, the Junkyard Dog versus Roddy Piper! We then go to the ring announcer for our opening contest.

COL DEBEERS VS SD JONES

DeBeers mops the ring with Jones, using a variety of underhanded tactics he doesn’t even need to use. He makes a show of it, shouting to the crowd how inept his opponent is. He finally ends it when he applies the WMB and Jones has to submit.

Following the match DeBeers asks for Cornette’s microphone and he goes on to tell us what we just witnessed is the natural order. He is superior in every way and it was his “burden” to show it to the world as he has across the globe. He goes on to say that opponents like this are unworthy to be in the same ring as him and ought to “keep to their own kind.”

THE FUNKS VS MANDO AND CHAVO GUERRERO

Two sets of brothers trying to show who has the best chemistry and skill. The match is even for the most part until Terry who is not the legal man runs around the ring to begin brawling with Chavo who is also not legal. This distracts Mando and opens the door for the crafty Dory to gain control with a knee in the small of the back before he spins Mando around and delivers a piledriver for the win.

Williams decimates Sawyer in under three minutes, ragdolling him around the ring before he hits the ura nage.

Dr Death is in the ring and shouting down at Solie and Cornette about how no one in the NWA will step up and get in the ring with him. A moment later he has his answer.

Ted Dibiase walks down the aisle and up into the ring. He tells WIlliams he isn’t afraid of him and he’ll fight him right now. Williams appears to shrug off Dibiase before charging him. Dibiase pulls down the top rope and Williams tumbles over to the floor. Dr. Death gets to his feet irate but every security guard and referee in the building keeps him from getting back in. He’s forced down the aisle pointing his finger at DIbiase.

JUNKYARD DOG VS RODDY PIPER W/BOB ORTON

The crowd is hyped for this and there’s a ton of trash talk as the two men go nose to nose in the middle of the ring as the bell rings. This is all Piper’s plan as Orton quickly enters the ring and blindsides JYD causing a disqualification. Piper begins stomping the Dog as the referee calls for the bell.

Piper and Orton continue their double team attack. Orton is holding JYD while Piper berates him but then the crowd gets excited when someone runs down to the ring.

Rick Martel hits the ring and floors both Piper and Orton with right hands. JYD is able to recover and soon he’s involved in the action too. Piper and Orton get slung into each other and collide before rolling to the floor. Piper is furious as Martel and JYD want some more of them. While Cornette yells about Martel sticking his nose where it doesn’t belong Solie tells us to come back next week for more World Wide Wrestling!

This one is ugly as the Russians dominate in complete fashion. Overpowering both of their opponents it’s never even in doubt and even less so when Nikita hits the Russian Sickle.

Regal and Houston are a little bit of an awkward pairing and the match isn’t the best title defense Houston has made over the last weeks but he still hits his offensive sets and ends it with the bulldog.

Ricky Morton tells us that every morning that they wake up without those NWA United States Tag Team titles feels a little worse so they need to change that. There’s a little thing called Starrcade coming up and they want Garvin and Rude and a chance to win their belts back. Gibson agrees and says they like to act like God’s gift to women but if given the chance he and Ricky will show they’re nothing but fools.

MEAN MARK CALLOUS W/PERCY PRINGLE III VS GEORGE SOUTH

Callous is all over South as soon as the bell rings and punishes him for several minutes in complete domination. Pringle is very proud of his man as he boasts on the outside and Callous finally hits the heart punch for the win.

Jim Ross welcomes the NWA Central Champion Gino Hernandez to the set. Gino says that there is a great deal of responsibility that comes with carrying around this title but he is proud to be doing his best every single time he defends it. Hernandez shakes his head as they’re joined on the set.

James J. Dillon who seems very full of himself says that Hernandez is nothing but a liar because he and Barry Windham have been seeking a title match for weeks and Gino keeps ducking them. Hernandez defends himself saying Dillon is the one lying and that he’s never requested a match. The argument continues and grows heated which is exactly the distraction Windham needed.

He flies into the scene, attacking Hernandez from behind before slamming his head into the desk. Windham mounts the champion, raining down punches as Dillon gets a few kicks in. Windham finally relents with one final stiff kick telling Gino to consider this a request.

A great match between these two fine teams. The momentum goes back and forth with equal amounts of offense from both. very good match which sees Tanaka get a fair amount of offense which Dibiase sells perfectly. When Dibiase takes control he keeps it throughout the match and ends it with a diving fist off the second rope.

The NWA is the best collection of professional wrestlers on the planet and if he’s too blind to see it, Dibiase will gladly open his eyes. He holds up a fist with a smile to make his point.

A back and forth match which sees both teams control equal portions of the match but the momentum switches when Rose gets a blind tag and clips Brad behind the knee. He and Somers then spend time double teaming him before Rose hits an elbow drop off the second rope after comedically almost losing his balance.

Reed looks like a million bucks and simply overpowers Tonga who can do nothing right. Even when he flies off with a cross body Reed catches him in mid air and drops him over his knee in a backbreaker. When Reed feels he’s punished his opponent enough he picks him up in a military press and simply drops him face first before making the cover.

Gordy outshines Gibson with both his power and his athleticism. Even when Gibson can get in a few punches they do next to nothing except angering Gordy who ends all hope for his opponent with a knee in the gut following with a gut wrench suplex. Gordy then dominates the last few minutes before hitting a running leg drop for the win.

And then they’ll do what they wanted to do all along and that is put the Dog to sleep!

Tony Schiavone and Jim Ross welcome us to this week’s episode of World Championship Wrestling. They tell us tonight we have a HUGE main event with Ricky Steamboat versus Macho Man Randy Savage. Apparently Savage has agreed to a non-title match and he promises this is the only time he will ‘humor’ Steamboat. But before we get to the action we have a piece of video footage from earlier today which can only be described as cowardly and horrific, perhaps even criminal.

The video shows the Road Warriors and Paul Ellering exiting their car when they arrive at the studio when suddenly four brand new black sportscars pull up and the Four Horsemen exit each carrying a wooden baseball bat.

They rush the World Tag Team Champions and even as tough as Hawk and Animal are, they’re no match for four brutal men with weapons. The Road Warriors are overwhelmed and when Ellering tries to intervene he catches a few shots with the bat as well. The Horsemen have sent a message loud and clear to everyone.

Back in the studio Schiavone and Ross are sickened by what we’ve seen and send us to the ring for our opening match.

We’re used to seeing Michaels and Jannetty on the losing end, doing their best to make their opponents look good but they get some spotlight in this match and they don’t disappoint with smooth tag action and you even hear a few cheers from the audience. They end the match with a victory thanks to a superkick from Michaels.

Rude is completely dismissive saying that Morton and Gibson aren't worth their time when there are more qualified opponents. Garvin agrees and tells us that that they're neither gorgeous nor ravishing which means the answer is no!

These two put on a spectacle seldom seen on television. Move for move, counter for counter, they trade the advantage with neither man really holding it for very long. The action spills to the outside where from behind the referee’s back Woman gets into the action, clawing Steamboat’s eyes. Savage uses that to begin punishing his challenger and when Steamboat seems spent, Savage climbs to the top for a double axe handle. He flies when Steamboat gets to his feet but Steamboat stuns the US Champion with a punch to the gut. Savage doubles over and Steamboat pulls him into a quick small package and gets the 123.

Woman slides into the ring and is virtually hissing at Steamboat with fury in her eyes but Savage just sits in the middle of the ring with a blank expression, seemingly in disbelief at what happened and unsure how to process it.

The Freebirds start off hot by having Gordy pummel their opponents. That allows for Roberts to come in and pick the bones with superior wrestling skill. With Hayes outside never shutting his mouth it all comes together for the trio and when Gordy drops the big leg it’s over.

The last of the squashes. JYD is in complete control and gets in his offensive moves to the crowd’s delight including getting on all fours and chasing Stamp to deliver headbutts. JYD signals to the crowd it’s time to end by giving a little dance before he scoops up Stamp and delivers the Thump for the win.

Schiavone says he doesn’t know and Ross mentions Steamboat isn’t scheduled to be here this week. Savage looks like he wants to beat them both up and says Steamboat can’t hide from him, no no, that’s not hot it goes down. Steamboat got lucky, yea, buy a lottery ticket before your luck runs out and it will run out when the Macho Man settles the score. Savage says he wants Steamboat and he’ll do whatever he has to do to get him! Savage and Woman stalk off as Schiavone and Ross send us to the ring.

Al Snow must owe someone money to get put in this match. He comes out hot, laying into Koloff who doesn’t even bat an eye. When Uncle Ivan cries out something in Russian Koloff lays into Snow, battering him and tossing him from corner to corner. Koloff looks like a cold blooded machine and when he gets the command he just about takes off Snow’s head with a Russian Sickle.

Tony Schiavone is joined by the Andersons and Bobby Heenan. The heels make a show of acting like they’re looking for someone. Arn says it’s funny, they’ve been looking for the Road Warriors all day but those two freaks haven’t shown up because they know they’ll get a beating again. Schiavone tries to interject that it was all of the Horsemen but Ole cuts him off and reminds him that they didn’t do anything they hadn’t promised to do. Don’t blame the Horsemen, blame the Road Warriors for being deaf to common sense. Common sense says don’t get in their way. Sometimes you have to give someone a hard lesson and if the Road Warriors need another lesson, they’ll gladly take them to school again.

Before the match Pringle is instructing his man from the outside and with his back turned Callous doesn’t see Ware climb to the top and when the bell rings and Callous charges where he thinks Ware is, Koko flies and connects with a dropkick which sends Mean Mark stumbling back towards his corner but he doesn’t leave his feet. When Koko gets to his feet Callous charges as he did before and kicks his head off. Callous, who looks infuriated, punishes Ware for the rest of the match before hitting the heart punch.

Jim Ross welcomes the NWA United States Tag Team Champions back to the set. Ross begins by mentioning the hundreds of letters and notes being sent in to TBS by fans of the Rock n Roll Express saying they deserve a rematch and saying both Garvin and Rude are scared of the former champions. Rude cuts him off and says all that proves is Morton and Gibson have a lot of time on their hands to write all those letters. The truth is everyone out there knows that he and Gorgeous Jimmy are here for real competition not second rate pretty boys. He moves back to Missy and puts his arm around her which seems to distract Garvin for a moment but he recovers and says Rude is 100% right and to show that need for competition they are going to defend their titles right here next week against one of the toughest tag teams in the NWA. A surprisingly competitive match for most of it, Armstrong may not have the charisma to be a star but you can’t take anything away from him in the ring. Blanchard is just as good though and with Heenan on the outside it gives him the edge he needs to seize control and hold it. When he hits his slingshot suplex it’s elementary 123.

NWA World Champion Ric Flair takes the lead and says last week he had to go see a doctor because he fell down laughing when he saw Dusty Rhodes try to scare them with his big talk. Dusty Rhodes is a dead man walking he just doesn’t know it but when the Horsemen get ahold of him he’ll learn the lesson like everyone else. Tully and the Andersons nod in agreement as Flair continues and informs us that Dusty Rhodes says he wants a war but he’s a man without an army and pretty soon he’ll be a man without a career! Wooooo!

Parsons gets in a decent amount of offense but Jake shuts it down and assumes the momentum of the match. He’s methodical in attacking Parsons from various angles, softening up the neck before he hits the short armed clothesline and then the DDT.

We go to Hot Rod's and Roddy Piper looks deflated. He tells us that he has planned to have a special guest this week but he got screwed over. He had hoped to have the man who seems to put his nose in everyone’s business, Rick Martel but he’s too much of a coward to show his face. He only wants to attack Roddy and Ace from behind like he did a couple weeks ago.

Suddenly Martel comes down to the ring and he and Piper go nose to nose. Martel is furious at being called a coward when he was never invited. Piper keeps agitating him long long for Orton to blast Martel from behind.

They begin to put the boots to him when the Junkyard Dog runs down for the save and Piper and Orton bail from the ring. It’s clear this whole feud is a long way from being over.

A good match between these two who have a lot of history behind them. Adams leads the dance as the veteran for most of the way but Hernandez fights back and takes control late in the bout. The brothers are never really tested in this match and are very slick in their tags and quick double teams. When Jones eats a Gory Bomb at the hands of Hector it’s all over.

Tony Schiavone welcomes the American Dream Dusty Rhodes who finally has lost the eye patch.. Tony says he wouldn’t be doing his job if he didn’t ask Dusty about this rumored plan for a new match that Dusty has been working on. Dusty says that it is indeed a new match that has been created for a situation that has never existed. Never before have four such vile individuals joined forces to wreak havoc in the NWA. Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures. The Four Horsemen and that weasel they keep on a leash have taken the American Dream to a place he’s never been before. A dark place in the pit of his soul and that is where the idea came from. So he designed it, and then he took the idea to Jim Crockett Jr who gave his blessing. In four weeks the Four Horsemen will walk into Starrcade to face their reckoning.

Schiavone asks him for more details on the match. Dusty says it will be two rings because one cannot contain the violence. They will be surrounded by fifteen feet of steel and two men will enter and do battle for five minutes. After those five minutes one man from the team which wins a coin toss will enter and have an advantage. Three minutes later the advantage will go away and so on until all eight men are in the ring. And then, and only then, does the match actually begin. Everything before that is simple brutality. And once that door is locked for the final time it is not about pinfalls or wrestling. It is about war! Survive or surrender because the only way to lose is for one team to say daddy, I can’t take no more of this!

Schiavone asks the question most everyone is wondering now. We know the Horsemen’s team but what about Dusty? Rhodes grins and says you reap what you sow walking off.

Steamboat smiles and says he doesn’t have anything to prove to anyone, least of all Randy Savage. Steamboat did what he said he would do so what would doing it again prove? He says he’s looking forward to real champions like Ric Flair. Ross wishes him well and sends us to the ring.

Jos Leduc is a wildman and pushes Houston around in the first half of the match with glee but when he charges Houston in the corner who moves, Leduc crashes chest first and is stunned. Houston takes advantage, buzzing around him with several quick attacks that has Leduc in a daze before Houston climbs to the second rope and hits a big bulldog to put the madman down for good.

Ric Flair joins Tony Schiavone on the set. Flair says that when he hit Dusty Rhodes in the face he didn’t realize he gave him brain damage. It has to be brain damage because only someone suffering from it or a complete fool would want Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard, and the Andersons inside a cage when they can work together and do what they do best. Let’s not forget that only an idiot would want to sign up and help Dusty in that because they risk their careers too. But if this is how Dusty Rhodes wants to end his long career, the Nature Boy, Wooooo!, will gladly finish what he started. He warns Dusty that he’s not going to settle for just an eye this time.

TERRY FUNK VS GEORGE SOUTH

Funk is sometimes referred to as middle aged and crazy and he lives up to the hype battering South for the whole match with technical brutality. To end it he delivers not one stump piledriver but two.

Jim Ross welcomes Dr. Death Steve Williams. Ross can barely get in a welcome before Williams grabs the microphone. He says Ted Dibiase made the biggest mistake of his life when he decided to act like a tough guy. Well Dr. Death is a real tough guy and at Starrcade he’s going to break Dibiase’s neck, and his back, and his arms, and his legs, and then we’ll see who’s tough!

Garvin had promised a title defense against two of the best. We’ll leave it up to you to decide what you think about their opponents in this one but it’s not much of a contest as the champs dominate from the opening bell and it ends when Rude delivers a Rude Awakening to Randy Mulkey and makes a very lazy cover for the win.

The champions barely have time to be handed their belts before the Rock n Roll Express hit the ring. Ricky and Robert are tired of the run around and lay into Garvin and Rude. It settles into a four man brawl but when Rude and Garvin try to sling RnR into each other it’s reversed and the champions collide. Rude and Garvin stagger right into matching dropkicks and are sent from the ring. The champions look shell shocked as Morton and Gibson hold the ring and the crowd is on their feet as the show comes to an end.

Gordon Solie and Jim Cornette welcome us to the show while standing ringside in a sold out arena. Solie goes on to detail some of the action we’ll see today including Rick Martel versus Bob Orton and Barry Windham in action. We then go to the ring announcer for our opening contest.

RICK MARTEL VS BOB ORTON W/RODDY PIPER

Orton tries to get the jump on Martel before the bell but he’s ready for it and surprises Orton by dodging it and laying into him. Orton ditches to the outside to confer with Piper but Martel slams their heads together to the crowd’s delight. Martel gets Orton back in the ring and the match settles down. Orton gains the advantage when Piper distracts Martel and the referee by climbing onto the apron. During the distraction Orton pulls something out of his trunks and when Martel turns he catches a right hand which knocks him cold. Orton pitches whatever it was out of the ring and makes the cover for an easy three count.

Piper and Orton aren’t done with Martel yet and appear to be setting him up for a superplex onto a chair which Piper brings into the ring when the Junkyard Dog comes running down to the ring. Piper and Orton are both knocked flat with headbutts and exit the ring. JYD gets a mic and challenges the ‘two fools’ to a tag match at Starrcade. Piper is smug in accepting and he and Orton leave to the back.

MICHAEL HAYES W/BUDDY ROBERTS AND TERRY GORDY VS BRADY BOONE

The Freebirds at ringside give Hayes a huge advantage but he doesn’t need it. Gordy gets a little rough with Boone on the outside when Hayes pitches him through the ropes then gets into it with the referee. Hayes does more playing to the crowd and talking than actual wrestling but he’s never in danger and ends the match with a rolling cutter.

BARRY WINDHAM VS GERRY MORROW

Windham obliterates Morrow in a quick match. Windham is just too good for his opponent and after showing off a little he ends it with a running lariat.

As Windham and Dillon celebrate the victory in the ring, NWA Central Champion Gino Hernandez runs down to the ring and slides in behind them. He and Windham get into a brawl before Hernandez sends Windham over the top rope with a dropkick. Dillon attacks Hernandez to no effect. Hernandez backs Dillon into a corner and as the manager is cowering, Gino pulls the contract out of Dillon’s suit pocket, and a pen, signs the deal, then shoves the paper into his chest. Dillon doesn’t look pleased at all as Hernandez leaves the ring. A moment later Windham gets back in and shares Dillon’s disdain for the champ.

DUSTY RHODES VS SHAWN MICHAELS

The American Dream is on fire in this one and even though Michaels puts up a valiant fight Dusty powers through. The crowd is on its feet as Dusty shucks and jives, hitting Michaels with the Bionic Elbow before bouncing off the ropes and delivering a running elbow drop to seal the deal.

Dusty is dancing and celebrating in the ring until he sees the Four Horsemen walking down the aisle and quickly surrounding three sides of the ring. Rhodes doesn’t know which way to turn as the Horsemen begin creeping up on the apron when the crowd suddenly erupts.

The Road Warriors sprint down to the ring, Animal with a baseball bat in hand and Hawk with one in each hand. When they slide into the ring the Horsemen quickly jump down to the floor and when Hawk hands Dusty a bat the tables have turned even if it’s four on three. The Horsemen back off as Dusty calls them back to fight. Flair is backing off shouting ‘on our time’ as the show goes off the air.

Well, when you feel ready to return to this diary, we'll be there. JCP's peak during the 1980s (including its collaboration with the AWA on the Pro Wrestling USA project to counteract the WWF) was a great time for wrestling and its matches were fun to watch, and this diary brings back those times.
