Summary

The first ever Mixed Martial Arts event in France proved to be very entertaining and successful as the main event between two of the top female fighters in the world, Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie, delivered a fantastic fight. The rematch from the controversial 2017 title bout was anticipated as both Holm and de Randamie wanted to lay claim for another title shot in the thinly looking Women's Bantamweight division. It was Holm that started the first round out the best with some technical strikes to keep the dangerous de Randamie guessing. During the second round, the Dutch fighter adapted well and begun getting into the bout more and more but the round was extremely close, it could realistically had gone either way. Round three was going to be the last round of the fight as de Randamie, the inaugural Women's Featherweight champion and multiple time world kick boxing champion, knocked down Holly Holm one minute and eight seconds in with a nice combination before finishing her with some brutal shots on the ground. It was a truly fantastic fight that garnered a lot of cheers from the French crowd and something for the paying customers to enjoy, especially since their hometown hero Ciryl Gane had lost his co-main event bout against the Russian Sergei Pavlovich moments earlier thanks to a brutal head kick. Pavlovich, who has only lost once during his career against the suspended Alistair Overeem in his UFC-debut, looked incredibly good and is certainly in line for a big fight in the near future as he breaks into the top 10-ranking of the Heavyweight division. During the event, we saw successful UFC-debuts for the former KSW Welterweight champion Roberto Soldic, former RIZIN fighter Manel Kape and the former ONE Championship Women's Atomweight champion Nong Stamp Fairtex. Stamp Fairtex finished the former title challenger Karolina Kowalkiewicz in the first round and looked especially impressive and could be a serious threat to anyone in the division. This was the Polish fighter's fifth loss in a row which led to her getting released shortly after the event had finished. Kowalkiewicz was not the only fighter getting released after the show as four more fighters fighting on the card suffered the same fate. This list include; Nad Nairmani (2-3 UFC), Iuri Alcantara (10-9-1NC UFC), Nikita Krylov (7-7 UFC) and Khalil Rountree (4-7 UFC) with every fighter having a three fight losing streak or more. Worth noting is that female veteran fighter Barb Honchack, who lost to Mélinda Fabian during the Preliminary portion of the event, announced her retirement after the bout. She fought three times in the UFC after competing in The Ultimate Fighter 26-season, losing all three. UFC wishes Honchack all the best in her future endeavors.

UFC Fight Announcements

<img src=https://i.imgur.com/0oXCwiC.png>

UFC Fight Night 183: Benavidez vs. Terblanche in Flyweight Championship Bout announced for first ever African UFC-event

UFC will make its first historic trip to Africa as the company announced today that they're hosting UFC Fight Night 183 at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg, South Africa. The event will feature a Flyweight Championship bout as Joseph Benavidez (29-5) makes his first title defense since winning it earlier this year against The Ultimate Fight season 29-winner Antiere Terblanche (5-0). Nigerian-born Terblanche has the chance of a lifetime to follow in the same footsteps as Matt Serra when he defeated the then Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre and shocked the world in the process. According to the oddsmakers, Terblanche is a heavy +790 underdog while Benavidez is a huge betting favorite with -840 in his favor.

The historic event will feature several African fighters such as Gambian Themba Gorimbo (8-2), South African J.P. Buys (8-2), South African Levon Theunissen (3-0) and Congolese Dalcha Lungiambula (10-2) as well as a big Heavyweight showdown between Surinamese-fighter Jairzinho Rozenstruik (10-1) and the Russian Alexander Volkov (32-7) in the co-main event spot.

If the event proves to be successful, UFC will no doubt be looking to increase their presence in Africa as many of the most popular fighters in the organizations are either born there or have roots on the continent.

Zabit Magomedsharipov vs. Brian Ortega headlines UFC Fight Night 184 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

In addition to the first ever African UFC-event, the organization also announced that they're returning to the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The last time UFC hosted an event there was when Justin Gaethje defeated Edson Barboza at the second ever ESPN-card. This time, the Philadelphia-crowd will be served a big Featherweight bout with title implications as the number three ranked Zabit Magomedsharipov (19-1) takes on the number four ranked Brian Ortega (15-1-1NC) in the main event.

The Russian fighter Magomedsharipov comes from a decisive knock out victory over fellow top ranked Featherweight in Yair Rodriguez while Brian Ortega defeated The Korean Zombie in his last fight. A victory for either fighter here will most definitely result in a future title fight against the winner between Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway. For the co-main event of the evening, a rematch between the two former Women's Strawweight champions Jessica Andrade (21-7) and Rose Namajunas (8-5) will feature which also has title implications. The Brazilian Andrade, who won their first fight back last year, is looking to get her shot at Tatiana Suarez' newly won title while Namajunas also wants another shot.

Several interesting fights strengthens the event with a Lightweight bout between former champion Anthony Pettis (23-9) and rising star Gregor Gillespie (14-1) sticks out in very positive fashion. A ranked Middleweight bout between Ian Heinich (13-4) and Krzysztof Jotko (22-4) was initially scheduled to take place on the main card, but the Polish fighter Jotko has pulled out citing injuries. Russian fighter Omari Akhmedov (20-5-1), who recently dropped out of the rankings following his loss to Luke Rockhold, has stepped up as replacement. A Heavyweight bout between Blagoy Ivanov (18-4-1NC) and Augusto Sakai (14-2-1) fills the last spot on the main card of UFC Fight Night 184: Zabit vs. Ortega.

The UFC Fight Night 184: Zabit vs. Ortega main card looks like this:

Main Event

Featherweight Bout: (#3) Zabit Magomedsharipov vs. (#4) Brian Ortega

Co-Main Event

Women's Strawweight Bout: (#2) Jessica Andrade vs. (#3) Rose Namajunas

Main Card

Lightweight Bout: (#7) Anthony Pettis vs. (#10) Gregor Gillespie

Heavyweight Bout: (#10) Blagoy Ivanov vs. (#13) Augusto Sakai

Middleweight Bout: (#15) Ian Heinisch vs. Omari Akhmedov

Summary

Amanda Nunes, the greatest female fighter of all time, headed into the main event of UFC Fight Night 182 with a eleven fight win streak in both Bantamweight and Featherweight. Her opponent Felicia Spencer had only one victory in her streak, against Zarah Fairn dos Santos, when she entered her second ever title fight. Everything pointed to a Nunes victory, but the odds were shockingly close as Nunes clocked in at only -200 favorite while Spencer was a +150 underdog. Perhaps the size advantage for Spencer as well as her more than capable ground game had garnered some unexpected bets her way. The first round was as close as the odds hinted at with Felicia Spencer even securing a takedown on the champion. Spencer tried working on the ground with a combination of wrestling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but the almost invincible Nunes managed to escape the ground position and take the fight back up to a standing position. While there it was Nunes that, as predicted, dominated the fight with her elite level boxing. After five minutes of the first round, almost every expert ruled the round in Nunes' favor but Spencer wasn't far behind. It all came to an end however one minute and fifty-nine seconds into the second round when the champion unleashed her unprecedented combinations. A right jab, left hook and a sick left high kick knocked the challenger to a vulnerable position on the ground which Nunes followed up with some heavy hammerfists to close out the show. Referee Dan Miragliotta jumped in to save Felicia Spencer from further damage as Amanda Nunes celebrated her first Women's Featherweight title defense. "The Lioness" has now 12 victories in a row in two divisions and she has defeated almost every worthy title challengers in both weight classes. One has to wonder who, if any, can beat Amanda Nunes in the near future. Luke Rockhold continued his path to resurgence as he finished Uriah Hall in the second round of the co-main event. Now back in the top 10 ranking of the Middleweight division, Rockhold is once again a feared name for the fighters above him which seemed laughable after his knockout loss to Jan Blachowicz last year. We also saw Mateusz Gamrot defeating Francisco Trinaldo in a fantastic fight which ended with the Polish submitting the Brazilian with a sweet rear naked choke late in the second round. The 42-year old Trinaldo took the microphone during his post-fight interview and announced his retirement from MMA. "Massaranduba", as he is called in his native Brazil, has had a decent career going 25-8 with victories over the likes of Paul Felder, Ross Pearson and Jim Miller. Both Nathaniel Wood and Chris Wade went home victorious after defeating Pedro Munhoz and Matt Frevola respectively while BJJ-legend Garry Tonon was really impressive in his debut victory over Drakkar Klose. A future bout between Tonon and world class wrestler and former Olympian Mark O. Madsen would be a fun fight for the grappling enthusiasts out there, but we'll have to wait and see what the UFC is planning for the upcoming months.

<span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Al Iaquinta wins court battle against supplement company - USADA Suspension reduced by 8 months</strong></span></p><p> </p><p>

It's been a rocky couple of months for the former Lightweight title challenger Al Iaquinta. After his Unanimous Decision-loss to Mirsad Bektic back in September, the news about Iaquinta's failed post-fight drug test sent the MMA world in shock as no one could have predicted the outspoken New York-native to be a cheater. In a public statement, the fighter refused to be associated with the actions and claimed to be a victim of some tainted supplements. A standard excuse, said many of the experts but it turns out he was telling the truth all along.</p><p> </p><p>

During a court battle against a unnamed supplement company, Al Iaquinta and his team of lawyers proved beyond every reasonable doubt that he indeed had been the victim of some tainted supplements. Iaquinta provided information to the court as well as USADA about a dietary supplement product he was using before and at the time of the relevant sample collection. Although no prohibited substances were listed on the supplement label, analysis conducted on both the open and independently sourced, unopened containers of the product by a laboratory in New York, accredited by WADA, indicated that the product contained the selective androgen receptor modulator known as Ligandrol (LGD-4033). This means that Al Iaquinta has proved that he didn't knowingly take anything prohibited and that the company was at fault, not the fighter.</p><p> </p><p>

Following the news about this court battle, USADA has officially announced that they're reducing Iaquinta's suspension. Initially a 12 month suspension, it has now been reduced to a 4 month suspension instead. The 33-year old Featherweight will now be eligble for return on January 16th, 2021. Iaquinta himself was very pleased with the news, stating that he "knew he was right all along and that he never doubted himself or the process". He also sent a heartfelt message to his fans, thanking them for staying by his side in this turbulent time.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Women's Flyweight prospect Mackenzie Dern facing surgery after serious shoulder injury</strong></span></p><p> </p><p>

Devastating news for the highly touted prospect Mackenzie Dern (8-1) in the Women's Flyweight division as she has suffered a major shoulder injury during her training camp leading up to a future bout. According to Dern's manager, the Arizona-native with roots in Brazil fell awkwardly during practice and had to be taken to a nearby hospital. While there, Dern received the news that she had suffered a torn rotator cuff which will require surgery. The recovery time for a torn rotator cuff is around 6-12 months depending on the severity, so the BJJ-ace is going to be on the shelf for several months.</p><p> </p><p>

"It sucks. I was just about to announce my upcoming fight with Maryna Moroz at UFC Fight Night 184 but it wasn't to be. My injury is a severe one and I'm going to be out for a couple of months but I hope to return sooner rather than later. This injury will not defeat me, that's for sure. I'm coming back stronger than ever to climb the Flyweight rankings and become a champion. It's a long road ahead, but I'm doing everything I can to get back", said Dern during her interview with Luke Thomas of the MMA Hour.</p><p> </p><p>

Maryna Moroz will now face Gillian Robertson instead in a short-notice fight during the preliminary portion of UFC Fight Night 184: Zabit vs. Ortega.</p><p> </p><p>

WEEK 4 - NOVEMBER 2020

UFC 257: Khabib vs. Gaethje - Preview

<img src=https://i.imgur.com/MtxaHqQ.jpg>

Justin Gaethje: "I'll be the one to dethrone Lightweight GOAT Khabib Nurmagomedov"

This Saturday, at the Little Caesars Arena in Denver, Michigan, the highly anticipated UFC 257 event which features a Lightweight title bout between the undefeated champion Khabib Nurmagomedov (29-0) and the powerful challenger Justin Gaethje (22-2) as the main event. Both fighters has been known as respectful albeit dangerous combatants that doesn't rely on trash-talk to sell the fight, and this time it hasn't been different. During the ceremonial pre-fight press conference, both Khabib and Gaethje showed tremendous respect to each other, without losing track of what's at stake.

"Khabib is in my mind the greatest Lightweight fighter of all time. His track record says it all, 29 wins in 29 bouts and he has defeated every top fighter there is in Conor [McGregor], Dustin [Poirier], Tony [Ferguson], RDA [Rafael dos Anjos] and many more. But he hasn't beat me and I'm the most dangerous fighter he has fought. I've got one-punch knockout power, I've got a strong wrestling pedigree, I'm durable and can take a punch. I respect the hell out of him as a fighter and as a person, he's a great champion and a great man, but I'm the one to end his championship reign", said Gaethje. The Russian champion was equally respectful to his opponent, without undervalue his own skills and abilities. "He [Justin Gaethje] is one of, if not the most entertaining fighter in the UFC today. He can brawl, he can wrestle, he has a variety of abilities and skills and he really throws everything to finish his fights. I respect that. It's a contradicting style against mine and that's a certainty for entertainment this Saturday, but I'm going out there to make him fight my kind of fight. I'm going to pressure him for five straight rounds and hurt him just like I hurt every opponent. Gaethje, despite of being a great fighter, will be finished and I'll be 30-0", said Khabib during the same press conference.

During the likewise highly anticipated co-main event, two former Interim Lightweight champions as well as former opponents to Khabib Nurmagomedov will battle it out for a potential opportunity for another title shot. Tony Ferguson (25-4) and Dustin Poirier (27-5-1NC) are both two of the most popular fighters on the roster and the bout will certainly be a very entertaining one to watch. The event features many more potential Fight of the Night-candidates, especially the Middleweight bout Jared Cannonier (13-5) vs. Derek Brunson (20-8), the Welterweight bout between Gunnar Nelson (17-6-1) vs. Matt Brown (23-16) and the Lightweight bout between David Teymur (8-2) vs. Rustam Khabilov (24-4). If the anticipation and hype is something to go by, UFC 257 will be one of the best cards of the year.

Summary

It was a spectacular night at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan as Khabib Nurmagomedov made his fourth title defense against the versatile Justin Gaethje, a man who possess dangerous skills to possibly defeat the champion. The fight started out as expected with Gaethje going forward every second of the fight trying to finish Khabib with one big strike, but the tactical and experienced Russian used his clinch game to avoid getting hit. One minute into the first round, the champion took control of the challengers back in the clinch, picked him up and slammed him to the ground. While on the ground, Khabib tried multiple submissions attempts which Gaethje defended well but the turning point came when the Russian champion initiated his well-documented ground and pound. Transitioning to the back of Gaethje, Khabib landed several big shots before securing a fully applied rear naked choke. Showing heart and resiliency, Gaethje refused to tap but the immense pressure from the choke was too much to handle for the Arizona-native as he went to sleep before referee Yves Lavigne stepped in and saved him from further damage. Khabib Nurmagomedov is now 30-0 and the claim for him being one of the greatest of all time is growing larger and larger for every fight. It's really hard to see who, if any, can top the champion in the foreseeable future. Perhaps it's Tony Ferguson, the victor from the co-main event bout against Dustin Poirier, who's most suitable in a potential rematch, or perhaps it's Conor McGregor or perhaps it's the dark horses Paul Felder and Kevin Lee. Either way, there's many interesting bouts that can be made in the Lightweight division title contention and at the moment, there's no clear number one contender. During the other bouts on the main card-portion, a big upset happened when Montana de la Rosa defeated the -450 favorite Molly McCann with a decisive Unanimous Decision. We also saw big wins for Jared Cannonier and Matt Brown against two of the gatekeepers of the the Middleweight and Welterweight divisions in Derek Brunson and Gunnar Nelson respectively. Earlier in the evening, Mike Perry bounced back after some though losses with a head kick knockout on the 12-fight veteran Chad Laprise and Rustam Khabilov made his way towards a top 15-ranking with his submission victory over the solid David Teymur.

WEEK 4 - NOVEMBER 2020

UFC Fight Announcement & News

<img src=https://i.imgur.com/GYy7rYt.png>

UFC 258 announced for New Year's weekend featuring three title fights - Jones vs. Blachowicz main events

The traditional New Year's weekend-event is a mainstay in the UFC with many stacked cards taking place that time of year through the years. UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem, UFC 207: Nunes vs. Rousey and UFC 232: Jones vs. Gustafsson II is just three of the events that has featured during the last weekend of December, and to continue the tradition UFC announced today that they're returning home to the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with a truly stacked card consisting of three title fights.

The main event will feature a Light Heavyweight title bout between the champion and perhaps the greatest Mixed Martial Artist to ever grace the Octagon in Jon Jones (26-1-1NC) as he takes on the number three ranked challenger Jan Blachowicz (26-8), who lastly defeated Corey Anderson back in February. The Polish-native has won seven of his last eight bouts, only losing to the number one ranked Thiago Santos, and has vowed to bring the championship gold back home to Cieszyn, Poland. Jones on the other hand lastly defeated Dominick Reyes in convincing fashion and is looking to continue his legacy of being the number one pound for pound fighter in the world.

A Featherweight title rematch between the current champion Alexander Volkanovski (22-1) and the former champion Max Holloway (22-5) also headlines the card as the co-main event. The bout, which was initially booked for UFC 252: Adesanya vs. Costa in July but was ultimately postponed due to Volkanovski injuring his shoulder three weeks before the fight, is going to be the champion's first title defense since winning it against his upcoming opponent back in December, 2019. For the third and final title bout, we will also witness a championship rematch as Katlyn Chookagian (14-2) defends her Women's Flyweight title against the former champion Valentina Shevchenko (19-4).

The rest of the card also features some very interesting bouts. A Featherweight bout between Ryan Hall (9-1) and The Korean Zombie (16-6) together with a Light Heavyweight bout between Jim Crute (11-1) and Ovince St. Preux (24-13) makes out the rest of the main card. On the preliminary portion of the card, a top ranked Women's Bantamweight bout between former TUF-winner Julianna Peña (9-4) and Irene Aldana (12-6) stands out from the other great and anticipated bouts. Worth noting is that a Lightweight bout between Lando Vannata (11-4-2) and Olivier Aubin-Mercier (12-5) was targeted for this event, but the Canadian Aubin-Mercier recently injured his spine during his fight camp and is expected to be out for at least 9-12 months. Vannata opted not to fight a replacement as of this moment and the bout was later scrapped.

UFC signs four top European fighters including Bellator-duo Vadim Nemkov & Valentin Moldavsky

UFC's strive to strengthen its popularity and presence in Europe continues as the company announced today that they have signed four of the top European fighters on the market. The signings consists of Russian Light Heavyweight Vadim Nemkov (13-3), Russian Heavyweight Valentin Moldavsky (11-1), Polish Lightweight Marcin Held (28-8) and Georgian Welterweight Amiran Gogoladze (11-1).

Both Russians Nemkov and Moldavsky comes from the rival organization Bellator where both have made a big name for themselves, fighting the top contenders in their respective division. The Moscow-born Nemkov last defeated the former UFC-veteran and former Bellator title challenger Phil Davies for the second time in his career, winning via devastating leg kicks. His one and only loss in Bellator came against the double champion Ryan Bader in his title bout, but other than that he has won against the best of Bellator's Light Heavyweight division. Moldavsky on the other hand gained a lot of attention in his last fight when he defeated his countryman, the legendary Fedor Emelianenko in a Split Decision during Bellator 246. The 6'2'' Heavyweight from Stary Oskol, Russia will bring some freshness into the relatively old and stagnated UFC Heavyweight division.

Marcin Held, a former 4-fight UFC-fighter, has also signed with the company. The Polish Lightweight recently lost his ACA Lightweight title against Abdul-Aziz Abdulvakhabov in a extremely close decision, but Held has looked incredibly good since leaving the UFC back in 2017 following a 1-3 stint. He is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and has several submission victories through his year, especially his Leglock victory over Oleg Bagov to claim the ACA Lightweight title in 2019. The fourth and final signing is the 22-year old Georgian Welterweight Amiran Gogoladze, one of the brightest prospects in the MMA-world today. Gogoladze has fought both in M-1 Global and the RCC before signing a 3-fight deal with the UFC. He has a versatile fighting style with finishes both via submissions and knockouts as well as a few decision wins on his record, but he's most prominent with his stand up-game.

extremely interesting dynasty! always check your new story... longer stories would be great. And also take a part of other organizations, news from MMA World, rankings from UFC, some heated rivalries and so on..

Thank you very much, it's greatly appreciated!

During the second year, I'm aiming towards including more news from other companies and what's going on there, as a contrast to what's going on at my UFC. I will start with a yearly summary at the end of December and trying to post at least one post a month game-time regarding other companies. As for rivalries and rankings, I'm going to include it more and more as we progress from the real life events to get some variety.

Thanks again, comments like this always brings some needed extra motivation! :)

WEEK 1 - DECEMBER 2020

UFC Fight Announcement & Preview

<img src=https://i.imgur.com/HzAmLfc.jpg>

Joseph Benavidez: "Terblanche is not on my level, the real challenge is Demetrious Johnson in my next title fight"

Next Saturday, UFC makes history with their first event on the African continent. Taking place at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg, South Africa the event has a lot at stakes for the company; a good show and the presence of UFC in Africa should see a significant boost which opens up future events on the continent while a disappointing show could result in a big backlash. The main event slot featuring a UFC Flyweight title bout between the champion Joseph Benavidez (29-5) and the TUF 29-winner Antiere Terblanche (5-0) is a good ground to start on for the company heading to South Africa with the challenger Terblanche, who's born in Lagos, Nigeria, being held as a potential superstar for the African fans. One who's not impressed by the Nigerian however is the champion Benavidez.

"He [Antiere Terblanche] is just an average fighter coming from an overhyped reality show consisting of several other average fighters. This will be the easiest fight of my career, I'm fighting a guy with 5 fights to his name and it's for the title. That's insane in my eyes. I get that the UFC really needs to deepen the Flyweight division, and for depth The Ultimate Fighter has been great, but handing out a title shot to a complete nobody without experience or anything to justify why he gets the shot is just wrong in my opinion. There's 14 fighters ranked before him and you can argue that everyone of these 14 fighters deserve it more than he does. [Jussier] Formiga, [brandon] Moreno, [Kai] Kara-France, [Ray] Borg are just some names that deserve it more than him. But I'm not complaining, he's not on my level and it will be a easy paycheck for me to collect. The big test for me as a champion is DJ [Demetrious Johnson] now that he's back. Of course he needs to win one before getting the shot, but when he wins and we inevitable face each other for the third time, it's going to be the biggest Flyweight fight of all time. Trust me on that", said Benavidez during an interview with Ariel Helwani's MMA Show heading into next weeks fight.

As previous mentioned, the co-main event between Surinamese-fighter Jairzinho Rozenstruik (10-1) and the Russian Alexander Volkov (32-7) is a big one for the Heavyweight division. The winner will most certainly receive a big fight which in turn could lead to a potential title bout. Jairzinho's supreme power is a serious threat to anyone while Volkov's experience and variety of abilities has proven to be very fruitful in the octagon over the years.

UFC returns to Stockholm, Sweden as Jack Hermansson takes on Yoel Romero in main event of Fight Night 185

One of the biggest market for UFC in Europe is the Scandinavian market. Many of the European UFC-fans hails from Sweden, Norway and Denmark so for the company to return to the region after over a year is both expected and needed. Just like last time UFC held an event in Scandinavia, in Copenhagen, Denmark, Middleweight Swede Jack Hermansson (21-6) will headline the event. This time, it will take place in his native Sweden at the Ericsson Globe in the nations capital. His opponent is none other than the 41-year old Cuban machine Yoel "Soldier of God" Romero (13-5). The former title challenger has lost his three last fights against three of the best names in the division in Robert Whittaker, Paulo Costa and Darren Till while Hermansson lost against the rising prospect Edmen Shahbazyan in his latest outing. The fight is very important for them both, a loss can result in either of them getting knocked out of the top 10 ranking while a win can fast track them to a title shot path.

As expected, there's a lot of Scandinavian fighters on the card as well as other Europeans. Fellow Swede Ilir Latifi (15-8-1NC) continues his return to the Light Heavyweight division after a one fight-stint in the Heavyweight division as he takes on the 19-fight veteran Sam Alvey (34-13-1NC) in the co-main event. Making his promotional debut, former ONE Championship Welterweight champion Zebaztian Kadestam (13-5-1) takes on the Middleweight gatekeeper of sorts in Brad Tavares (18-6). Kadestam opted to fight in the Middleweight division instead of his original division as the ONE Championship Welterweight division is 185 pounds, just like the Middleweight division in the UFC.

The Norwegian Emil Meek (10-4-1NC) faces Max Griffin (15-7) while the Danish fighter Nicolas Dalby (18-4-1-1NC) takes on TUF 21-cast member Nathan Coy (15-7) in the final main card-fight. Coy hasn't fought in three years following a string of injuries, and many speculate that if he's not victorious in his return the UFC will cut ties with the Portland-native.

The UFC Fight Night 185: Hermansson vs. Romero main card looks like this:

Main Event

Middleweight Bout: (#6) Jack Hermansson vs. (#8) Yoel Romero

Co-Main Event

Light Heavyweight Bout: Ilir Latifi vs. Sam Alvey

Main Card

Middleweight Bout: Zebaztian Kadestam vs. (#10) Brad Tavares

Summary

UFC-fans around the world has seen some of the greatest upsets that sport has to offer. To this day, people still remember when Holly Holm defeated the -1400 odds favorite Ronda Rousey to end her reign as the greatest female fighter of all time. People also remember when Matt Serra shocked the world as a +850 underdog to defeat GSP, as well as when T.J. Dillashaw finished the -1000 favorite and seemingly invincible Renan Barão. Heading into the first ever African-based UFC-event, winner of TUF 29 Antiere Terblanche was a heavy underdog coming in as a +790 underdog while the champion Joseph Benavidez was a clear -840 favorite in his first title defense. Every single expert and analyst had picked Benavidez as the victor before the fight, which ultimately showed just how confident people were in Benavidez' chances of retaining his title. It all came crashing down fifty seconds into the third round. But, lets back it up to recap the entire fight to show that this was not a result of one lucky shot, instead it was a masterful display from the 26-year old Nigerian challenger in his sixth MMA-bout ever. Starting out in the first thirteen seconds of the fight, Terblanche faked a jab and landed a enormous right hook which wobbled Benavidez straight from the start, reminiscent of when McGregor did something similar to Aldo a few years back. Even though Terblanche didn't finish the fight right there, the seeds was planted as Benavidez looked more and more cautious in his approach. His game plan was obviously going for a wrestling and ground game base but it took until the last ten seconds before he secured his first takedown, which was fruitless as Terblanche won the first round easily. The second round was more close with Benavidez going for several takedowns which was remotely successful. Even though the champion edged out Terblanche on the judges scorecard for the round, thanks to his ground game, it was the challenger who provided the biggest moment in the round when he almost pulled of one of the rarest submissions in UFC-history in form of a Calf Slicer, but Benavidez defended it enough. Using a heavy pressure fighting style, Terblanche started out the third round with a massive pace landing several combinations to multiple body parts during the first thirty second of the fight. Following a missed counter hook from the champion, Terblanche landed a nasty uppercut which sent Benavidez to the floor and merely seconds later the bout was all over with the Nigerian raining down punches on the knocked out champion. The crowd erupted in cheers and jubilation as Terblanche jumped over the cage and celebrated with his peers in total ecstasy. The shocking upset capped of an eventful evening which was deemed a total success for the South African crowd, despite lacking some star power aside from the main and co-main event. Add Antiere Terblanche's victory over Joseph Benavidez to the list of huge upsets, because this one will be remembered for many years to come. It's really hard to follow the sensational story of the main event when writing this summary but to give the other fighters justice, we have to acknowledge some of the things that also took place on the card. Alexander Volkov finished Jairzinho Rozenstruik with ease and is on a clear path to a title bout, he needs perhaps just one more big win before challenging for the title. Gian Villante, Johnny Eduardo and Martin Day finished the African-trio of Themba Gorimbo J.P. Buys and Levon Theunissen respectively which leaves the event with a minor sour note, but together with Terblanche it was Dalcha Lungiambula that made the fans cheer the most. Following the event, three fighters received news regarding their contracts being terminated. David Zawada, who went 1-3 in his UFC-career, Alexander Yakovlev, who went 3-6 in his UFC-career, and Talia Santos, who went 0-3 in her UFC-career, is no longer part of the roster and is encouraged to secure employment elsewhere.

I was in a slight shock when I played through the fight. I knew Terblanche was better than the odds hinted at but to not only finish but to dominate one of the three best Flyweights ever is a remarkable feat, especially with him being a regen and it being very early in his career. It opens up very interesting fights as well. Benavidez has beaten almost every top contender in the division apart from DJ and Brandon Moreno, but with Terblanche as champ it opens up many more new and exciting fights. It's also interesting to see how Kovan Falana, the other TUF-finalist, fairs against the other fighters in the division considering he was the more impressive fighter on the show apart from the final.</p><p> </p><p> As always, I appreciate the comments guys, it's always fun to interact with you and to get the reader's perspective! <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

<span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Rumor: Scott Coker to step down as Bellator president following lackluster year for the promotion</strong></span></p><p> </p><p>

There's big changes on the Mixed Martial Arts horizon as rumors surrounding Bellator President Scott Coker's employment has risen. According to respectable source MMAJunkie, Bellator's parent company ViacomCBS is greatly disappointed with the year that the organization has had with many of the biggest stars has left the company, including Michael "Venom" Page, A.J. McKee, Vadim Nemkov and Valentin Moldavsky, who all fights under the UFC-banner from now on. Several prominent fighters has also retired with Fedor Emelianenko, Frank Mir, Roy Nelson and Lyoto Machida being the most notable ones. Together with the disappointment of losing fighters, ViacomCBS is reported to also be disappointed with both the fighters signed during the year as well as the events that the organizations has put on.</p><p> </p><p>

"They are massively disappointed with Bellator and Scott Coker in particular", said one anonymous source to MMAJunkie. "ViacomCBS has invested a lot of money and time in this project and with almost no results whatsoever, in fact the company has lost a lot of money during this year. Losing two of the biggest homegrown talents in "MVP" [Michael Page] and A.J. McKee has been a big let down as well as losing some of the prominent fighters like Lorenz Larkin, Vadim Nemkov and Valentin Moldavsky together with the uncontrollable aspects of retirement with some of the biggest names in one calendar year. But not only that, Bellator hasn't signed any major names at all this year like the company wants them to do and the events that has taken place during 2020 has been mediocre at best. ViacomCBS are definitely not happy with the current leadership of Bellator", said the source to MMAJunkie.</p><p> </p><p>

With several other rumors surrounding the company, with the biggest one being Ryan Bader's willingness to try the free agency market when his contract ends this month, there's a very turbulent time ahead for Bellator. The President of the organization, Scott Coker has been in charge since 2014 and has helped building Bellator up as one of three big MMA-companies in the world along with the UFC and ONE Championship but perhaps it's time to say goodbye to Coker in hopes of rebuilding the organization once and for all.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>UFC Fight Night 186: Shahbazyan vs. Gastelum announced in Albuquerque, New Mexico</strong></span></p><p> </p><p>

A top ranked Middleweight fight between the undefeated Edmen Shahbazyan (13-0) and former title challenger Kelvin Gastelum (17-5-1NC) was announced today as the main event for the upcoming UFC Fight Night 186. The event will take place at the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico during the third weekend of 2021. It will be the second time in history that UFC host an event in the city of Albuquerque with UFC Fight Night 42: Henderson vs. Khabilov taking place at the same location back in 2014.</p><p> </p><p>

Edmen Shahbazyan has won all of his thirteen MMA-fights, six of them in the UFC, and has made a name for himself as a potential champion in the Middleweight division. He has defeated many of the division's most notable names in Anderson Silva, Jack Hermansson and Brad Tavares and many of the UFC-fans around the world holds him in very high regard. His opponent is not one to count out though as Kelvin Gastelum is one of the toughest fighters, not only in the Middleweight division but in the entire UFC. Possessing some great knockout power as well as a solid ground game, Gastelum also has some big wins to his name but none bigger than his win over the former champion Robert Whittaker in his last fight. A victory for either Shahbazyan or Gastelum would probably result in a title fight, as soon as the rightful number one contender Darren Till gets his shot at the champion Israel Adesanya.</p><p> </p><p>

For the co-main event, the Russian wrestling superstar Abdulrashid Sadulaev (1-0) makes his second ever MMA-fight has he takes on a true veteran in form of Ed Herman (24-15-1NC). Having won in his debut and subsequently retired the legendary Antonio "Lil Nog" Rogerio Nogueira, the hype surrounding Sadulaev is immense and he's already touted as the next big European superstar. A decisive victory over a gritty veteran like Herman would further the fan interest in the former Olympic gold medalist. The rest of the card is also filled with some fights worth watching as Jessica Eye (16-7-1NC) faces the undefeated Maycee Barber (10-0) in a title eliminator for the Women's Flyweight championship as well as a bout between two young, promising Bantamweights in Cory Sandhagen (12-2) and Yadong Song (16-4-1-1NC). Just like last time UFC held an event in the state of New Mexico, the hometown hero Diego Sanchez (31-12) fights on the card as he takes on Randy Brown (12-3) during the main card opener.</p><p> </p><p>

Summary

The highly anticipated Featherweight main event between the number three ranked Russian Zabit Magomedsharipov and the number four ranked American Brian Ortega was scheduled by the UFC to determine the rightful number one contender following the upcoming title fight between champion Alexander Volkanovski and challenger Max Holloway. Zabit, who hadn't lost in over seven years and who was undefeated in the UFC, was the slight betting favorite heading into the fight against the dangerous Ortega, who defeated The Korean Zombie in his last outing. Many expected the fight to be greatly entertaining one as both fighters are highly skilled both in the striking department but primarily on the ground, and the fight didn't disappointed even though it only lasted one minute and thirty seconds. Starting the bout out aggressively, Ortega clinched Zabit right from the start and used a nice inside leg trip which had Zabit pulling guard after only thirty seconds of the fight. Looking to use a mixture of pressure ground and pound as well as some nice advancing from the top, Ortega looked to dominate the early stage of the fight but you can never give the 29-year old Russian a window of opportunity because he will take it and then some. Out of nowhere, Zabit ensnared Ortega in a tight triangle from guard which caught him deep. With no other alternative, the BJJ-black belt under Rener Gracie had to tap and the Philadelphia-crowd was in awe to see Zabit pull of the submission victory so early and unexpected. As expected, Zabit called out the winner of Volkanovski vs. Holloway for the next title shot and after this display, combined with all his previous impressive victories in the octagon, it's no secret that he indeed will get what he asks for. As for the rest of the card, several big fights with ranking implications took place. A rematch between two former Women's Strawweight champions in Rose Namajunas and Jessica Andrade co-main evented the card as Namajunas got her revenge with a great TKO-victory late in the second round after dominating up until that point. Gregor Gillespie showed his wrestling abilities as he controlled the veteran Anthony Pettis for the entire bout between the two, just like fifteen ranked Middleweight Ian Heinisch did against the though and gritty Russian Omari Akhmedov. We also saw a good return to the UFC for former PFL Women's Lightweight tournament finalist Larissa Pacheco as she defeated fellow Brazilian Norma Dumont Viana via Unanimous Decision. Following the event, Dumont Viana together with Heavyweight Junior Albini and Featherweight Ricardo Lamas was released from their contracts after negative streaks. Dumont Viana and Albini went 0-2 and 2-5 respectively in the UFC while 18-fight veteran Ricardo Lamas went 1-5 in his last six fights.

Bit surprised to see Ortega finished so quickly, thought that would be a tougher fight. Good to see Rose get her revenge.

Same here, I expected a five round war with either a potential knockout/decision victory for Zabit or a submission victory for Ortega. Very surprising result but Zabit is the real deal man, there's a great title fight on the horizon for him regardless of who's gonna win between Volkanovski and Holloway.

Indeed, Rose's marketability is invaluable for the Women's Strawweight division and think she can win the title once again down the line despite her loss against current champ Tatiana Suarez in their last bout.

WEEK 3 - DECEMBER 2020

UFC Fight Announcement

<img src=https://i.imgur.com/iVzjtx0.png>

UFC 259: Cormier vs. Ngannou to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York for first pay-per-view event of 2021

Get ready for a showdown between two of the best Heavyweights on the planet as the current champion Daniel Cormier (23-2-1NC)) takes on the scary challenger Francis Ngannou (15-3) when UFC returns to Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York next month. This will be Cormier's first title defense since winning back the championship from Stipe Miocic back in June, and the challenger is perhaps the toughest of them all in form of the Cameroonian nightmare Ngannou, who gets his second shot at the title. Per Cormier himself, this could be his last fight as he previously stated that he intend on retiring when he loses the championship but the champ opens up as slight odds favorite with -110 with Ngannou coming in as an +100 underdog.

The co-main event will feature the return of Flyweight GOAT Demetrious Johnson (31-3-1). "DJ" will rematch Ray Borg (14-4) in his UFC-comeback after the seventh ranked Borg called him out on Twitter saying that "His time is up and my time is now, he should have never returned to the UFC". This sparked a rivalry between the two, who faced each other in a Flyweight title bout for the first time back in 2017 when "DJ" landed the now infamous "Might-Wiz Armbar" to secure the five round submission victory. Borg has amassed a two-fight win streak over Brazilians Rogerio Bontorin and Alexandre Pantoja while "DJ" hasn't lost since his last UFC-fight when he dropped the Flyweight title to the current Bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo.

A Brazilian affair between 34-year old Gilbert Burns (18-3) and 43-year old Demian Maia (28-10) will also feature on the UFC 259-card with many speculating that this will be the former title challenger Demian Maia's last fight in his career. When asked about his retirement plans earlier this year, Maia stated that he "wants to keep fighting as long as he can compete at the highest level" but he also insisted that he didn't have many fights left in his aging body. The Women's Bantamweight division will also be represented during the event with two fighters in the top 5 ranking, Ketlen Vieira (11-1) and Aspen Ladd (9-2) squaring off. Last but not least, a potential Fight of the Night-contender between Geoff Neal (14-2) and Neil Magny (21-8) makes up the last fight on the main card.

The entire UFC 259: Cormier vs. Ngannou-card looks like this:

<span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Jon Jones: "Blachowicz is the weakest opponent of my career, I will make quick work of him"</strong></span></p><p> </p><p>

Jon Jones (26-1-1NC) will make his fourth consecutive title defense this Saturday as he takes on the Polish knockout artist Jan Blachowicz (26-8) for the Light Heavyweight Championship. Having beat everyone in the division with ease, Jones' wasn't impressive with the newest challenger at 205 as he claimed the Polish fighter to be his easiest challenge yet. "This is not a dig at him or to disrespect him, but I just think that Jan [blachowicz] is the easiest fight of my career. He got one thing in his tool box to look out for and that's his left hand. He's been stopped several times both by submission and knockout by fighters not near my level. I respect him for his contribution to the sport and he's earned his title opportunity, but I will make quick work of him this Saturday", said Jones during the pre-fight press conference.</p><p> </p><p>

During the same press conference, we saw a heated argument between the Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski (22-1) and the former champion turned challenger Max Holloway (22-5) with the former questioning the latter's championship reign. "You're the most overvalued champion of all time, man. You've beaten old dudes way past their prime. [José] Aldo twice when he was finished several years ago, just like [Anthony] Pettis. [Frankie] Edgar who is a Bantamweight. [brian] Ortega who got lucky when he got the title shot. As soon as you faced some real competition like [Dustin] Poirier, you crumbled. Just like you crumbled when I beat you for five straight rounds", said Volkanovski to the former champion. Holloway, being is typical relaxed demeanor, simply replied "Talk all the trash you want man, that only makes you a bigger target for me. I've beaten everyone there is to beat and I will do the same when I finally get my rematch".</p><p> </p><p>

The third and final title bout this Saturday between the Women's Flyweight champion Katlyn Chookagian (14-2) and the former champion Valentina Shevchenko (19-4) had more respectful moments during their buildup with both fighters praising each other. Valentina told the attendees during the press conference that she "believes she controlled the last fight but Katlyn caught me and finished me. For that she was the better fighter that night" while the champion stated that Valentina is the "best fighter she's ever faced and that she's 100 percent deserving of an immediate rematch".</p><p> </p><p>
