AAA will be starting their eight week Lucha Fighter Live tournament on Saturday night at 8 pm CT. The show will air on Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook. The round-robin tournament will feature fourteen different luchadors split between two groups. A win is worth 1 point, and a tie is worth 0.5 point. The two biggest point scorers in each group will advance to a one-night single elimination tournament on Week 8, where the winner of the final will be crowned the ultimate Lucha Fighter.

They’re staggering the announcements of participating luchadors about every hour.

This is being billed as content for fans stuck at home, which it certainly is. There are also other reasons the show may be happening. It’s possible these shows are happening at all because Azteca asked AAA for new content. Konnan mentioned there was TV pressure in that direction on the Masked Republic segment of his podcast this week. (That appeared to be taped prior to AAA’s announcement of these shows.) AAA does get a rights fee from Azteca in exchange for AAA getting to air their shows, the first time AAA’s gotten such a fee, and it’s likely money they can’t afford to lose. Azteca has not yet announced airing these shows. They tend to make those announcements either on Friday night AAA TV show or the sports wrap up that follows it later that night. Multimedios has also announced they’ll also be airing this show live; AAA may getting paid for those airings as well, though it’s unlikely to be the near same fee.

AAA has not announced a venue for this show. There’s a lot to these shows feel like they’re being put together at the last moment but not naming a location is probably an intentional move. It’ll keep fans away at a time when they’re trying to keep a closed set, and it may keep away government officials as way too. Mexico City is threatening to enforce their social/safe distancing program via fines. Those threats have been inconsistently applied to wrestling promotions in other locations, but it is a reason not to announce where the tapings will take place in advance. From my understanding, the eight weeks of content will be filmed over three nights within the next week.

One of the most iconic luchadors of all time, thanks to his past performances in World Championship Wrestling, LA Park is a force to be reckoned with. This former AAA Latin American champion also held the Mexican National Light Heavyweight Championship on four different occasions as he made his mark on the world of lucha libre. Throughout his career, he has won the masks of his opponents twelve times, and has won their hair fifteen times. His feud with his now Los Ingobernables partner Rush transcended company lines as they battled across Mexico, selling out arena after arena. This rudo is virtually unstoppable and is ready to put AAA on notice even more in the Lucha Fighter tournament. LA Park will compete in Groupo A.

Bien, Bien, BIEN! Dr. Wagner Jr. is top player in lucha libre since making his debut in 1986. He's a legend to the fans, a wrestler with international experience (and success!) and capable of a great match when he wants one. Dr. Wagner is one of the most popular wrestlers in Mexico, and an iconic figure. Oozing an unmeasurable charisma, Wagner has seen his star rise to even bigger heights since he turned rudo once again by attacking Hijo del Santo earlier in the year. He has won four masks in his career and hair six times, as well as being a former three-time AAA Mega Champion, AAA Latin American Champion, three-time CMLL World Light Heavyweight Champion, IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Champion. Dr. Wagner Jr. will give it all that he's got to continue his rule on lucha libre in the Lucha Fighter tournament. Dr. Wagner Jr. will compete in Groupo B.

Immensely popular with kids and adults alike, Psycho Clown is considered the "Ace" of Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. Debuting alongside Los Psycho Circus, Psycho Clown amassed a record-breaking 600 win streak and has since become a superstar on his own. Despite such a young age of 34, Psycho's record speaks for itself: he is a former AAA Latin American Champion, a two-time AAA Trios Champion, EMW World Heavyweight Champion, he won the mask of Dr. Wagner Jr. in the main event of TripleMania XXV, and has competed in four TripleMania main events. Undeniably charismatic, Psycho Clown will undoubtedly be one to watch in this tournament as he aims to prove he is the #1 guy in AAA and continues to build momentum ahead of his eventual battle with the invading Los Ingobernables. Psycho Clown will compete in Groupo B.

Chessman, Niño Hamburguesa, Pentagon Jr. announced for Lucha Fighter

A football prodigy in his youth, Chessman is one of AAA's signature rudos and a member of Los OGTs alongside Averno and Super Fly. Since 1997, Chessman has been a constant force in all AAA divisions, being a former AAA Latin American Champion, AAA World Mixed Tag Team Champion, a two-time AAA World Tag Team Champion, and three-time AAA World Trios Champion, and a 820 day reign as Mexican National Atomicos Champion and has won lucha de apuestas matches six times. Chessman has previous tournament experience, winning the 2010 Rey de Reyes tournament. Chessman is certainly a competitor to keep an eye on and will always be glad to play spoiler and use his size to his advantage. Chessman will compete in Groupo A.

When we talk about charisma, Niño Hamburguesa, also known as El niño-come-hamburguesas (Spanish for “Kid-who-eats-hamburguers”), is undoubtedly the king. He began his career with the Mexican Power, but his talent, skills, and the aforementioned charisma, has led him down a path where he has managed to shine by his own light alongside his partner Big Mami, with whom he currently holds the AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship. Despite a lack of tournament experience, Nino was a finalist in the 2017 Rey de Reyes match. Looking to continue his momentum in 2020, this young pudgy boy is ready to do whatever it takes to make a name for himself. Niño Hamburguesa will compete in Groupo B.

Cero Miedo is not just a phrase, its a way of life for Pentagon Jr. One of the most feared luchadors in Mexico, Pentagon Jr. has made a name for himself in both AAA and All Elite Wrestling. Currently one half of the AAA World Tag Team Champions alongside his brother Rey Fenix, Pentagon Jr.'s strong style mixed with lucha libre has brought him continued success around the world as a former AAA Latin American Champion, IMPACT Wrestling World Champion, Lucha Underground Champion, The Crash Cruiserweight Champion, and PWG Tag Team Champion. This 2016 Rey de Reyes tournament winner has taken the hair of both Arez and Sami Callihan in Lucha de Apuestas contests and will gladly break your arm if needed. He fights with no fear and he has no problem hurting anyone who gets in his way. Pentagon Jr. will be competing in Groupo A.

Karis La Momia Jr., Blue Demon Jr., Rey Escorpion announced for Lucha Fighter

Karis La Momia Jr., Blue Demon Jr., Rey Escorpion announced for Lucha Fighter

The son of the recently passed La Parka, Karis La Momia Jr. enters Lucha Fighter in his quest to build himself up to be worthy enough to carry the La Parka Jr. mantle. This young luchador has been prying his craft inside the AAA ring since February and has made great progress in little time. With such a young career, Karis has not held any championships or taken any masks, but this tournament gives him an excellent opportunity to make a name for himself with a big win. Karis La Momia Jr. will compete in Groupo B.

The living legend of lucha libre, Blue Demon Jr. has thirty-six years of experience in the sport and will not be stopping anytime soon. The son of the legendary Blue Demon, Demon Jr. has carved out an excellent career in his own right since first stepping foot on the mat. A former AAA Latin American champion, NWA World's Heavyweight champion, and Mexican National Cruiserweight champion, much of Blue Demon Jr.'s success comes from his lucha de apuestas matches - he has never lost a bet! Having won 16 masks and 5 sets of hair, Blue Demon Jr. is the definition of a prize fighter. His recent rivalry with Dr. Wagner Jr. set TripleMania records, but this is a man who will stop at nothing to get his win (even using a hammer!). Blue Demon Jr. will compete in Groupo A.

If you're looking for trouble on the AAA roster, look no further than Rey Escorpion. This member of Los Mercenarios with the jet black hair will use everything he can against you, but still have the technical prowess to back it up in the ring. A twenty-one year veteran, Escorpion has held both the AAA World Tag Team Championship and the CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship, however his best success comes from lucha libre tournaments: he won the 2018 Rey de Reyes tournament and the CMLL Tornero Gran Alternativa twice! Escorpion is not somebody who should be taken lightly, he will do whatever it takes to ensure his hand is raised at the end of the competition. Rey Escorpion will compete in Groupo B.
