The Story So Far...

In order to truly appreciate where we’ve come to in the year 2020, we must first travel back in time. A brief history lesson, if you weeell..

January 7th, 1953 Vincent J. McMahon along with his father Jess McMahon began promoting Professional Wrestling in the North East of the United States of America as the Capitol Wrestling Corporation (CWC). By 1963, Vincent J. McMahon had partnered with legendary promoter Toots Mondt and together the two split from affiliation with the National Wrestling Alliance, renaming their domineering wrestling promotion World Wide Wrestling Federation.

As the 1960s drew to a close, Toots Mondt would depart from the World Wide Wrestling Federation leaving Vincent J. McMahon the sole owner of the company. In 1971, the WWWF would re-join the National Wrestling Alliance. The decade would draw to a close with the WWWF dropping the word “wide” from it’s moniker in 1979.

The 1980s would be a truly groundbreaking time for the recently christened World Wrestling Federation. The elder Vincent J. McMahon sold the wrestling promotion to his son, Vincent K. McMahon and wife Linda McMahon in 1982. Seeking to make the WWF the premier wrestling promotion in the country, and eventually, the world, he began an expansion process that fundamentally changed the wrestling business. At the annual National Wrestling Alliance meeting in 1983, Vincent K. McMahon officially withdrew the WWF from the NWA.

As the “Golden Age” of the 1980s drew to a close, the WWF saw record attendances, buyrates, the birth of the pay-per-view business, merchandising never before dreamed of and profits that ushered in an era of global professional wrestling dominance that certainly couldn’t falter. Then the doldrum days of the mid-90s struck and the New Generation branding of the World Wrestling Federation made a lasting mark in Vincent K. McMahons mind that he must always build for the future. More on that later though.

The Attitude Era raged in the late 90s, with Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock leading the charge for the World Wrestling Federation. The company's main, and oldest promotional rival, World Championship Wrestling put up a valiant effort in the late stretch of the 90s but would eventually be crushed by the dominating WWF at the dawn of the new decade.

The 2000s saw the WWF reap the rewards of success brought on by the late 90s Attitude Era. Never was this more the case then when the WWF crushed their competition in 2001, purchasing both World Championship Wrestling and Extreme Championship Wrestling. The ensuing down period in the North American wrestling scene would lead the WWF on a global expansion the likes of never before.

In 2005 the World Wrestling Federation would be forced to change it’s name due to a lawsuit, and the company would be renamed World Wrestling Entertainment. Befittingly so, as owner Vincent K. McMahon had never been proud of being apart of the “professional wrestling” business anyways. He’d instead insisted on calling his product, “sports entertainment,” and always been quoted as saying, “we make movies.”

In 2010 after multiple attempts at partnering up with lesser known wrestling promotions in an attempt to develop WWE Superstars for the future, NXT was born. Originally a filler show scheduled to take over for the now defunct WWECW show, second rate citizen status wouldn’t last for long.

On February 27, 2014 live on the WWE Network, NXT held “NXT: Arrival,” which was the very first live event on the newly launched WWE streaming service. Over the course of the next few years, NXT would cement itself as not just a development venture for the World Wrestling Federation, but as a stand alone product that could be financially solvent. Evidence could be found in the 2018 creation of the United Kingdom based brand of NXT.

Now as we draw closer to WWE Wrestlemania 36, the financial success of the multiple brands encompassed within the WWE umbrella can not be denied. So much so in fact, Vincent K. McMahon’s son-in-law, former professional wrestler, Triple H has expansion on his mind once again. As the creator of the massively successful and popular NXT brand, Triple H has been given the golden keys to the World Wrestling Entertainment kingdom, over the past couple of years. Carte blanche to do as he pleases, for the most part.

Vince McMahon & Triple H

Triple H: “Vince, I’m glad you have a second.”

Vince McMahon: “Always have time for you boy.. Now lemme see them guns!”

Triple H tries his hardest to push the sleeves of his dress shirt up over his bicep, but before being able to do so, Vince wraps both of his own hands around the bulging muscle.

Vince McMahon: “Ahh… so vascular..”

Triple H: “Vinc- ..Da.. Da, Mr. McMahon, stop.. Please.”

Vince McMahon: “Yes, right. Hunter, what did you want to speak with me about?”

Triple H: “The success of the original NXT brand, and now NXT UK, I think it’s time we branch out into other areas.”

Vince McMahon: “Where did you have in mind.”

Triple H: “Mexico.. and Japan. As we draw closer to Wrestlemania 36, I was thinking we could double down and get something off the ground in Japan. I’ve had a team working together for nearly a year now solidifying details, contacts..”

Vince McMahon: “The Orient?”

Triple H: “Well, Japan.. I’m not sure you can- ..look, I’ve been in contact with someone about heading up the product, recently retired Japanese Professional Wrestling legend, Jushin Thunder Liger.”

Vince McMahon: "Jushin Thunder who!? I hate thunder, and storms! What about Funaki?"

Triple H: "I'll tell Funaki, ..and I won't suggest Lance Storm if we open NXT: Canada."

Vince McMahon: "Lance Storm, that guys soooo boring! I'm glad he doesn't work here anymore."

Triple H: "Actually, we just re-hired him last month."

Vince McMahon: "We did?"

Triple H: "We did."

Vince McMahon: "Ah, fire him!"

Great starting roster, obviously Nak, Balor, and Kushida fit in well, but, the Kings of Wrestling will be a terrific addition to this style. There is also room for a Mr. Perfect 2.0 to work. I am excited to see it. Sasha mixing it up with the Joshis will be cool too.

Around The Globe News & Notes...

Week 1 - March 2020

News of NXT: Japan broke today across the wrestling worlds, immediately causing tension between the potential new WWE brand of NXT and currently operating Japanese wrestling promotions. The rumor making the rounds is that AJPW, NJPW, Noah, DragonGate and Stardom would consider it a stance of promotional war, if the WWE were to open an NXT brand in Japan.

The potential of WWE opening an NXT: Japan brand had quite the impact on the fortunes of Zero-1 Pro Wrestling, a company who’d operated on the periphery of the Pro Wrestling landscape in Japan for years now. With the rumors of a new promotion with a much larger reach, Zero-1 Pro Wrestling has been looked at by those as not nearly as “big,” as it was once. More a “Regional Size,” than the “Cult” following it once enjoyed.

The might and strength of Bushiroad continues to grow as they have announced a deal this week to make All Japan Pro Wrestling a new member of their working alliance of wrestling promotions. Many in the industry see this as a move by Bushiroad, the owners of NJPW, to combat the rumored WWE expansion into Japan.

In what might be the first actual solid sign that the WWE is preparing to launch an NXT brand in Japan, today marked the official signing of Yoshihiro Tajiri to the WWE. Having competed in WWE throughout the early 2000s, it should be no surprise that Tajiri would have a place in the WWE. Yet, Tajiri expressed interest in moving back home to Japan which is why he initially left the company years ago. Many believe the signing of Tajiri is evidence of WWE preparing and NXT: Japan launch, not that Tajiri will be moving to the United States to work with WWE.

Week 2 - March 2020

It came as a shock to many yesterday when a rumor began circulating that one of NJPW’s top talent who was not secured under a written contract, had begun negotiating with the WWE. We haven’t heard yet who the NJPW star is, but we’re still digging for information.

El Tirantes, a 61 year old retired Mexican Luchador has apparently gotten in good with the WWE office as of late, according to the rumors. With plans that the WWE might be launching NXT: Mexico, they had put out feelers for someone who might be familiar with the product to become the booker. El Tirantes looks to be the leading candidate.

It looks like CIMA and the OWE crew may be splitting soon. After bringing OWE to All Elite Wrestling in 2019, it seemed a partnership was sure to blossom between the two promotions. Lack of OWE involvement on AEW shows might’ve led to CIMA feeling taken for granted. Either way, we can report today that CIMA has signed an exclusive deal with WWE and it’s believed he will be bringing some of his DragonGate contemporaries along with him.

After the untimely 2020 passing of Professional Wrestling legend Harley Race, the WLW Wrestling Academy in St. Louis Missouri has been without a head trainer, leaving many potential wrestling prospects scrambling. Today that’s been solved, as underrated legend, “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton took over the position of Head Trainer at the WLW Wrestling Academy.

WWE hasn’t always been on top of their game when it comes to pre-planning. This is one of those times, it seems just a week in advance of a show, WWE has announced plans to hold an NXT: TakeOver event next weekend. Saturday Week 3, just a week before Wrestlemania 36, WWE has announced they will hold WWE/NXT: TakeOver Japan, live from Korakuen Hall in Tokyo Japan. Many are speculating this show could be the initial groundwork for an NXT: Japan promotion.

Week 3 - March 2020

If rumors are to be believed, just a few days out from the WWE/NXT: TakeOver Japan show, we are hearing that top NJPW star, Kazuchika Okada could make an appearance. Take this as only rumors right now, but words is, WWE has been aggressively pursuing Okada, attempting to even sway him into breaking his contract with NJPW & Bushiroad.

World Wonder Ring Stardom announced today that Manami Toyota had become the head trainer for their Dojo. Already a leading force in Women’s Wrestling, the training of Manami Toyota is expected to develop many exciting and talented future women for Stardom.

Women’s Professional Wrestling legend, Aja Kong has officially inked a deal with WWE today, as of press time. This is just another step in a direction that many industry insiders fear, WWE’s global expansion. Aja Kong is not expected to report to either NXT in Orlando, nor is she expected on either of the WWE’s main roster brands. Look for Aja Kong to be a main focal point of the rumored NXT: Japan’s Women’s division.

It’s official! That’s right, believe all the rumors you’ve been hearing. The signing of Akira Taue & Masahiro Chono by the WWE today has confirmed what we’ve been reporting all along. WWE is moving forward with their plans to launch NXT: Japan.

Rumors are running wild that not just one, but two different members of the NJPW roster have now officially agreed to leave the company and join the WWE, as they continue to sign talent ahead of their NXT: Japan launch.

Uploading images to a new hosting service someone told me about, dual posting this here and at another diary forum that uses a different coding language, as well as taking care of a 15 month old. Hoping to get all my initial stuff filled in before I hit bedtime tonight. If not, I'll have the initial launch show up tomorrow during the day when I'm once again on baby duty. Thank you for all of the comments so far. Look forward to seeing how people react to Sports Entertainment disguised as Strong Style.. oops, maybe I've said too much.

This should be a fun diary.

Editor's Note:

I sent out a private message through the boards system to the two who have predicted before I added the "key." Once they've had the opportunity to edit their predictions, I'll get the show up. In the mean time, I'll be tidying up some of the original posts. If you want to give them a look back over, they are changing as I get more stuff typed up and displayed how I want. You might gather new information, or see hints of things to come.
