Rizin - The Next Incarnation

Recommended Posts

This is actually a very well planned dynasty so far. While you did jump at grabbing some UFC talent right away, you didn't make big reaches and kept everything feeling realistic which I appreciate (and never expect to see when reading these tbh).

I'd like to see the writing fleshed out a bit more. What you've done so far is solid, the booking and realism is there, I'd love to see the story told in even greater detail as you move forward. Especially when it comes to fight results.

Just my two cents. Good luck.

Thank you, man. I will definitely be adding more to my posts once I hit 'the next chapter'. I have 1 more event planned before I take new rulings into account.

Its pretty hard not to pick up some UFC talent when released, they are all so good ha! But you'll see with the new year post that I have had some bigger names and more not so big names. Fleshing the divisions out and keeping a nice constant rotation can be tough but I'll be looking at adding new talent like Gamrot who was a double KSW champion. I'm also constantly looking to add names that the Japanese fans are aware of to help boost my shows. Alternatively there are younger prospects that I can try to make stars.

Moving from the standard RIZIN style to a more UFC style has been interesting, they never really had many contenders for champions beforehand. Mainly just thrown together catch weight bouts but it's made for some interesting results. Thanks for following, very greatful.

An outstanding event for finishes with only 2 via decision. Tatsuya Kawajiri defeated Diego Nunes and is now likely to challenge for The Lightweight Belt once decided between Brandao and Champion Musaev. Nunes will have to again start climbing the ladder. Stephen Thompson impressed on his debut with a beautiful knockout of Anzai. Already considered RIZIN FF's top Welterweight, Thompson will be looking for another opponent by the end of the year. Justin Willis beat veteran Fujita who took his post match speech to thank Willis before announcing his retirement from the sport. There will be more on this shortly. Ismail Naurdiev impressed in his debut. The noteable results in The Preliminary bouts saw Damien Brown pick up another win in a career resurgance.

IT IS ON! Horiguchi returns to claim his linear Bantamweight Championship from Manel Kape and Diego Brandao looks to dethrone Tofiq Musaev for The Lightweight Championship. Both Championships have been renamed in line with RIZIN's "Next Chapter" and will now be referred to as "RIZIN FF Bantamweight and RIZIN FF Lightweight" as part of the rebrand. Horiguchi was forced to vacate RIZIN and Bellators Bantamweight belts after suffering an injury. Kape won the vacant title and has since defended once. Musaev was crowned Lightweight Champion after winning The 2019 Lightweight Grand Prix, this will be his first defense and Brandao has earned his right to challenge. Melendez welcomes Alex Caceres to RIZIN FF after his release from UFC. Damien Brown has been on a storm of a run and faces Gamrot who lost the chance to challenge for the Lightweight Championship after losing to Brandao. This could be considered a potential title eliminator. Le Banner and Istrefi battle for a potential spot on The New Years Eve Grand Prix. Martin Nguyen arrives from ONE Championship to take on Cruickshank. Shtyrkov and Fitikefu debut, helping to grow the Light Heavyweight Division. Finally Greg Hardy is offered another chance to regain his amateur and early pro form against Mark Tanios in The Heavyweight Division. A win for either could secure a spot in the Grand Prix.

"RIZIN FF Announce Multiple Signings" - Rizinff.com

RIZIN FF have today announced multiple huge signings to add to their divisions. Ben Askren recently returned from retirement, but a loss to Gunnar Nelson saw his contract cut. A familar face in Asia for his time at ONE, Askren has now joined RIZIN. Light Heavyweight signings include Nikita Krylov, Misha Cirkunov, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Gian Villante, all recently cut from UFC. The Light Heavyweight Divsion is beginning to heat up, could a potential Championship soon be introduced? Ricardo Lamas joins RIXIN FF's Featherweight Division and a potential match up with Melendez or Caceres could be looming. RIZIN also announce the signings of John Moraga, Wilson Reis and Ken Hasegawa.

RIZIN Officials attended a press conference for RIZIN 26. The officials confimed that RIZIN 26 will be the last event of the old era, with RIZIN 27 being The New Years Eve Grand Prix. Rizin 28 will take place the following day on New Years Day and both full cards will be announced post RIZIN 26.

Horiguchi's victory over Kape means he is once again champion over the newly renamed "RIZIN FF Bantamweight Championship". Horiguchi's Knockout of Kape won fight and Knockout of the night and the inaugural champions return to the top fits perfect into RIZIN's "Next Chapter". Diego Brandao was unsuccessful in his challenge for Musaev's RIZIN FF Lightweight Championship. Musaev has been criticized as an undeserving Champion by the media, however his first defense may begin to prove otherwise. Gilbert Melendez defeated Caceres in a brilliant bout. Mateusz Gamrot is back on winning ways after his loss to Diego Brandao and could find himself in contention for Musaev's belt. 47 Year Old Le Banner picked up a huge win in less than 1 minute against Istrefi. Greg Hardy lost again, this time against Mark Tanios. RIZIN Officials confirm that Hardy, nor Barnett who also lost tonight will be taking part in The New Year's Eve Heavyweight Grand Prix. Heath Herring and Jerome Le Banner have both announced their retirement from the sport.

"MARK HUNT OUT OF GRAND PRIX WITH INJURY" - Rizinff.com

With less than 1 month to go until The New Years Eve Grand Prix, top contender Mark Hunt has been removed from the tournament after suffering a Major Pectoral Tear in training. Doctors informed RIZIN FF officials that "The Super Samoan" will likely be out for 1 whole year, if at all he ever returns. Hunt is already 46 and has only fought once for RIZIN FF since his UFC release.

RIZIN have confirmed that Giacomon Lemos will replace. The 31 year old is said to have been the only available Heavyweight ready to take on the tournament at such short notice. Lemos has not competed under The RIZIN FF banner yet and could look to make a name for himself.

Betting odds have drastically changed since Hunts removal with Justin Willis and Ben Rothwell now favorites.

In RIZIN FF 27's main event, Justin Willis defeated Hideki Sekine in true champion fashion with a knockout in the opening minute. Sekine's age may have played a factor being 14 years Willis' senior. Sekine took the stage and announced his retirement from MMA after his loss to Willis. He stated that he was honored to be included in The Heavyweight Grand Prix, but 3 fights in 1 night has helped him see that his body isnt capable of what it once was. Willis thanked Sekine and everyone involved in The Grand Prix before informing the crowd that he aims to take this victory and run with it and remain RIZIN FF Heavyweight Champion for some time. He was asked how he felt about Mark Hunt's injury prior to The Grand Prix, Willis replied that he saw himself winning The Grand Prix regardless , he then wished Hunt a speedy return to the ring before telling him that he will be ready for him when he does return. Tenshin Nasukawa and Naoki Inoue battled to the end with Nasukawa taking the split decision victory. RIZIN FF officials are said to be keen on a rematch, however it likely that this wont be next for either of the Flyweights. Taiga Kawabe took his record to 2-1 with a Unanimous Decision over Victor Henry. Rothwell had previously defeated Mark Hunt but was unable to beat Justin Willis. Rothwell remains one of the more experienced and talented fighters in The Heavyweight Division despite his age.

Jake Heun and Artem Lobov both lost their respective challenges. Lobov lost to the younger Diamond who will now aim to continue his trajectory to the top. Lobov has fallen back into the loss column, 2 consecutive wins could change his fortunes. Martinez and Vicente both found theirselves on the end of hard knockouts via much more talented opponents.

This Flyweight Tournament left RIZIN Official very happy, each fight ended in a finish with The Winner and Inaugural RIZIN FF Flyweight Champion Wilson Reis winning all 3 of his bouts via 3 separate submissions. Reis has certainly put the rest of the division on alert with an impressive overall performance. Sasaki may have lost in the final but the long term RIZIN fighter has in no way done any damage to his stock as a fighter. Hamasaki defeated Hee Ham to close their trilogy. Hamasaki said she was excited to see her next challenger, but it wouldnt matter who was opposite her in the ring, now that she has proven she is the real deal, she will continue to reign over the division. Villante and Nemkov's debut's ended in a decision but RIZIN FF will be happy with their Light Heavyweight Division's efforts.

John Dodson's victory over Kai Asakura closed The Preliminary Card and the former has made a great case that he could be the next Bantamweight Challenger. Former UFC star Jouban returned to winning ways, as did Ian McCall who returned to Bantamweight.

"LIGHTWEIGHT TOURNAMENT AND MARQUEE SIGNINGS" Rizinff.com

Luke Rockhold has today been announced as RIZIN FF's first "Marquee Signing". Still currently under contract with UFC, Rockhold has 1 fight left on his current contract with Thiago Santos. Rockhold becomes RIZIN's biggest name on the roster and will be immediately placed into RIZIN FF's Light Heavyweight Tournament as Number 1 seed. RIZIN have signed multiple stars to stack their Light Heavyweight Division including Gokhan Saki and Nikita Krylov. Below is a breakdown of the tournament entrants and remainder of the division.

Luke Rockhold vs Antonio Rogerio Nogueira

Luke Rockhold remains at Light Heavyweight for his battle with Thiago Santos after a win over Jonathan Wilson with a record of 17-5. Becoming RIZIN's biggest star to date shouldnt be a problem for the Former UFC Middleweight and Strikeforce Champion who is more than capable of coping with the pressure attached. Nogueira whilst older, can certainly draw on his experience to get through Rockhold. With a loss over Tournament Entrant Nikita Krylov, Nogueira will want to prove that even at 44 he still has what it takes to be a World Champion.

Gokhan Saki vs Tyson Pedro

Saki hasnt had the greatest record since joining UFC in 2017, picking up 1 win, 2 losses and 1 No Contest which he lost to Ovince St. Preux, but was later over turned to St. Preux failing a drug test. Tyson Pedro was cut from UFC after 3 straight losses, St. Preux by submission, "Shotgun" Rua via TKO and a loss to Jim Crute which was then turned over with Crute failing a drug test. Pedro has 3 wins and also holds another loss to Ilir Latifi. At only 27, Pedro has years of fight left in him and could go the whole way with just a few big performances.

Misha Cirkunov vs Nikita Krylov

Cirkunov and Krylov have fought once before with Curkunov winning via submission. He comes in on a loss by Khalil Rountree and only managed 2 wins in his previous 5 before that, but is known to finish his opponents. Krylov is a favourite to win the tournament but holds a record of 2 wins in his last 6, but rampaged a 5 fight win streak before that.

Gian Villante vs Ivan Shtyrkov

Villante recently defeated Viktor Nemkov but has 2 losses prior. Shtyrkov has a 3-0 record within RIZIN FF and will be using this tournament to propel himself into Light Heavyweight Stardom.

Alan Baudot, Devin Clark, Duke Didier, Isi Fitikefu, Jake Heun, Karl Albrektsson, Ken Hasegawa, Klidson de Abreu, Nathan Reddy, Shunsuke Inoue, Vitaly Bigdash and Vitaly Shemetov complete The RIZIN FF Light Heavyweight Division.

"RIZIN FF STACKS WELTERWEIGHT DIVISION" - Rizinff.com

RIZIN FF have stacked their Welterweight Division with marquee signings today. Ben Askren and Rafael dos Anjos join after UFC cuts. The Welterweight Division has now begun to liven up and both men have been included in the upcoming tournament.

Stephen Thompson vs Dhiego Lima

"Wonderboy" was a huge signing for RIZIN in 2020 and proved why when beating Shinsho Anzai with a beautiful Knockout Kick. Dhiego Lima was cut from UFC after his contract expired. His last fight was a loss to Anthony Martin but managed 3 consecutive wins prior.

Wang Sai vs Raimond Magomedaliev

Sai joins from Road FC. Magomedaliev beat Sean Spencer at RIZIN 26 and will want to continue his form.

Ben Askren vs Ismail Naurdiev

RIZIN FF tried to sign Askren in 2020, but "Funky" returned to UFC after previously announcing his retirement. Now with a 0-3 record in UFC, Askren once again left the company and signs for RIZIN FF in that search for another Championship after dominating ONE for so long. Naurdiev impressed at RIZIN 25 and a win over "Funky" will surely highlight his talents.

Alan Jouban vs Rafael dos Anjos

Joubans record took too much of a hit at UFC and after being cut, he chose RIZIN FF as his next employers. Jouban beat Theo Christakos at RIZIN 28. Rafael Dos Anjos is perhaps the biggest star in the division but with 3 losses in his last 4, Anjos will need to refind his previous form which saw multiple 3+ win streaks.

Ben Saunders, Han Seul Kim, Keita Nakamura, Richard Walsh, Sean Spencer and Shinso Anzai complete The Welterweight Division.

"RIZIN FF SIGN MEGA STAR!" - Rizinff.com

Jose Aldo has been sat in Free Agency since his UFC release in June 2020. Aldo has won 4 of his last 10 fights, unable to capture the form that brought him to fame since "That" loss to Conor McGregor. Aldo comes to RIZIN FF as their biggest star, even topping the signings of dos Anjos and Rockhold. Aldo has been confirmed for RIZIN's Featherweight Tournament and first bout confirmed to Main Event RIZIN FF 29 in February.

Jose Aldo vs Luiz Gustavo

Aldo is the clear favourite, but a win here for Gustavo could send him into Featherweight Stardom. Gustavo has a loss over Asakura but is on a 2 win streak.

Tyler Diamond vs Cub Swanson

Diamond arrived to RIZIN FF and immediately got called out by Artem Lobov who he then defeated. Swanson was released by UFC in November and holds a record of 2 wins and 1 loss in his last 3. He suffered 4 losses before that and also managed a 4 and a 6 streak in his UFC career. A strong favorite again challenged by a rising star.

Gilbert Melendez vs Mark Eddiva

Melendez arrived with a win over Asakura before seeing Alex Caceres away with a Knockout, however he suffered 5 losses in 5 fights before that. Mark Eddiva arrived from Road FC and defeated Enqrique Barzola via decision.

Mikuru Asakura vs Ricardo Lamas

Asakura has impressed at RIZIN FF with wins over Gustavo and Boku. However, Asakuras last outing was a loss to Melendez. Lamas' contract expired with UFC, his record holds victories over such names as Darren Elkins, Hacran Dias and a win over Cub Swanson. Lamas also has a loss over favourite Aldo.

Alex Caceres, Artem Lobov, Enrique Barzola, Kotetsu Boku, Minoru Kimura, Muin Gafurov and Yutaka Saito complete the rest of The Featherweight Division.

"RIZIN FF 29 - ALDO VS GUSTAVO CO-MAIN EVENT REPLACED" - Rizinff.com

With less than 2 weeks until RIZIN FF 29, The Co-Main event has been replaced, Ismail Naurdiev has picked up a minor leg injury and will be unable to compete. Debutant Ben Askren was offered 2 options, wait for Naurdiev to return [Which doctors state will be around 1 week to a month] or take on an alternative bout, with Shinso Anzai lobbying for the short notice challenge. Askren has wisely chosen to delay his debut and wait for Naurdiev to recover. The Co-Main event has now been replaced with a RIZIN FF Featherweight Tournament Round 1 bout which will see Gilbert Melendez take on Mark Eddiva. Both men were asked if they would bring their bout forward, which was rumoured to be scheduled for RIZIN 30 or 31. Both in fighting shape, they agreed to Co-Headline RIZIN 29 and were keen to advance to the next round of the tournament. Although Melendez vs Eddiva's scheduled date was never announced officially, it is thought that RIZIN FF officials have already discussed potential fight dates with all tournament entrants to give them the best chances of implementing a full training schedule.

Jose Aldo's debut may not have been as easy as he had planned witg Gustavo taking him the full 15 minutes allowed. Aldo will advance to the next stage of the tournament, whilst Gustavo did his stocks no harm after a great showing against arguably one of the best in the world. Stephen Thompson has been eliminated in a potential upset of the year by Dhiego Lima. "Wonderboy" was hotly tipped as a favorite to win The RIZIN FF Welterweight Tournament and become the inaugural champion. Lima defeated Thompson with a Unanimous Decision victory. The fight itself was considered decent by fans, but with only 2 takedowns and less than 100 strikes thrown between both men, this may have disappointed the hardcore fans as much as the result will disappointed Thompson. Damien Brown returns to the W column with a win over Joe Lauzon, he may soon reveal himself as a championship contender. There was no upset to be had between Swanson and Diamond, putting away the youngster within 2 minutes. Swanson looks set up to face Aldo next, with the other half of the bracket still up in the air. Antonio Silva again found himself on the end of a knock out with Maurice Greene the victor. Czech and Stoliarenko put on a great show with Czech the eventual winner. Former UFC Middleweight Champion Gastelum defeated Matt Hallam. Ben Saunders beat Keita Nakamura and then announced his retirement from MMA. Andy Nguyen and Angela Magana joined Saunders in retiring at this event. The show overall netted RIZIN FF just short of $1M which is their highest profit margin so far.

RIZIN FF have confirmed that they were in negotiations with Alistair Overeem, who has decided to remain with UFC despite RIZIN FF almost doubling their highest paid fighter, Jose Aldo. RIZIN however can confirm the signing of Teruto Ishihara who joins from UFC.

Horiguchi will defend The RIZIN FF Bantamweight Championship for the 1st time against John Dodson. Dodson beat one of RIZIN's hottest prospects in Asakura and topped the rest of the rankings at #2. With little in term of challengers for Horiguchi's belt, Dodson was the obvious choice. Ben Askren chose to wait for Ismail Naurdiev to return from a minor injury and delayed their bout from RIZIN FF 30 to this event instead of taking on an alternative bout. Askren is a huge favourite in the tournament and with "Wonderboy" eliminated Askrens chances are higher than ever. Tavares debuts and faces Jotko at Middleweight.

The Preliminary Card closes with de Souza vs Lepont being made official after de Souza set his sights on Lepont after his last bout. The Welterweight Tournament continue's in The Preliminary Card with Wan Sai taking on Raimond Magomedaliev.
