Commentators: Marv Earnest & Mark Hyatt

Earnest, “Hello everyone and welcome back to the Fountain Square Theatre and another exciting night of Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis action. I’m here along side Mark Hyatt for what promised to be a historic night of professional wrestling in Indianapolis. We have five championship matches scheduled for tonight, including -- for just the second time -- the World’s Heavyweight Championship when Des Davids challenges champion Doc Hammond in what should be a thrilling contest. The Hangman will attempt to make his first title defense of the Mid American Championship when he steps into the ring with Elmo Benson. Demelza Wade is here and is challenging for the Women’s Championship. What a show we have in store!”

Hyatt, “It is a star studded affair tonight, Marv. That’s why I wore my tux. They came here to see me because they know I’m a star. What a blessing for CWI. Stars everywhere tonight. And our first match sees a star in Black Diamond. I can’t wait for the action to start!”

“Red” Yvonne Ericks versus Black Diamond

Last month, Black Diamond beat Steph Blake -- the biggest win of Diamond’s singles career and this month she was up against fiery newcomer Yvonne Ericks. This was a great opportunity for Ericks. A win over the rising star Black Diamond could jumpstart Ericks’ nascent career and Ericks came out of the gate showing that she understood this was a great opportunity for her. The bell rang and she ran across the ring and caught Black Diamond flush in the jaw with her signature Mafia Kick. The impact sent Diamond tumbling out of the ring to the floor and really surprised the fans in attendance. Ericks went on the attack for the next several minutes. While she wasn’t able to put Diamond away, it was clear that Diamond was reeling. Ericks hit a Snap Suplex that got a near fall and hit a Roundhouse Kick that also got a nearfall. Diamond looked to be in real trouble when Ericks went for another Mafia Kick but Diamond was able to dodge it and then go to work. She focused on the lower back of Ericks -- trying to soften it up for her trademark Belly to Belly Suplex (not the overhead variety, mind you, the traditional side Belly to Belly that was very popular during the 80s). Diamond hit a wicked Tilt-a-Whirl Backbreaker that almosted ended the match for her but Ericks was able to dig deep and get her shoulder up. Diamond set up, and hit, her Belly to Belly Suplex and got the victory.

In a decent match, Black Diamond defeated Yvonne Ericks in 10:08 by pinfall with a Belly To Belly Suplex.

The San Diego Girls vs. Reece & Wells versus The Femme Fatales

Coming out of the solid opening contest, the three premier female tag teams in CWI were in action against one another. These three teams are no strangers to one another -- in May they were all involved in a four-way tag team match for the World Women’s Tag Titles and Reece & Wells and the Femme Fatales have a storied history against one another. In CWI, one member from each team is in the ring at all times and you can only tag your partner so this operated like a triple threat match. Urena Frost continued her run of looking like a star-in-the-making in this contest. She controlled the early portion of the match and looked like the general in the ring. Reece & Wells continue to show that they were more than just a last-ditch effort by AAA. They are a bonafide tag team with a lot of skill and the San Diego Girls look like a tag team that could really go some place. The crowd was very into Izzy Quick. The smaller young woman’s ability to sell and bump and fly around the ring made her a sympathetic figure. Urena Frost tossed Quick into Wells at one point in a very impressive display of power. Frost hit her BattleCry on Wells and Reece & Wells were eliminated. With the San Diego Girls and The Femme Fatales as the last two teams in the match, the pace picked up. Talia Neema and Coco Malloy had a good exchange that showcased some of the European style that Talia has been developing working for the EWA -- where she just lost the EWA Women’s Championship. She hit several stiff forearms on Malloy that Malloy sold beautifully before getting some offense of her own -- including a beautiful Springboard Leg Lariat that turned Neema inside out. Malloy followed that up with a Standing Moonsault that almost secured the victory. Urena Frost started into the ring but Malloy hit her with a shotgun-style dropkick that sent Frost to the outside of the ring to the floor. Malloy made the tag to Izzy Quick who flew into the ring with a lot of gusto. She set Talia Neema up on the top rope and hit a big Super Rana on Neema that earned The San Diego Girls a big win!

In a bout that had great heat and good wrestling, The San Diego Girls defeated Reece & Wells and Femme Fatales in 13:55; the order of elimination was Reece & Wells first, and then Femme Fatales.

In terms of in-ring work, Urena Frost was head and shoulders above everyone else.

The Dog Soldiers [Monteiro, Youngblood, Stallion] versus Deverell’s Army

We followed up the Triple Threat Tag Team Match with a big Six Man Tag match from two groups that have been at each other’s throats for the last several months. It started when Roger Monteiro defeated Zippy Deverell for the Indiana Heavyweight Title in February and has continued from there. Ace Youngblood was the general of the match and he led them through a solid, but unspectacular six-man contest. The Taggs are an excellent young tag team -- very reminiscent of The Peaks or the McWades -- the big bruising teams of the past. Roger Monteiro took the brunt of the beating from the Taggs -- who also did the brunt of the work with Zippy and his ‘cousin’ Haley shouting orders from the outside. The Taggs hit a Double Powerbomb on Roger Monteiro that looked like it almost killed the smaller man -- but Monteiro was surprisingly able to kick out. Deverell came in to take advantage but Monteiro made the tag out to Wild Red Stallion, who tossed Deverell around. Deverell powdered out with The Taggs came back in illegally -- and Stallion disposed of both men. The Pride of the Lakota Nation looked like a star in the making when Zippy Deverell hit a Running Bulldog -- not his usual Spinning Bulldog -- to get Stallion down. Deverell made the pinfall with his feet on the ropes and referee Bret Graveson didn’t notice and counted the three!

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, Deverell's Army (Zippy Deverell, Kalder Tagg and Wolfie Tagg) defeated Dog Soldiers (Ace Youngblood, Wild Red Stallion and Roger Monteiro) in 10:50 when Zippy Deverell pinned Wild Red Stallion, illegally using the ropes for leverage.

Deverell’s Army hightailed it from the ringside area while Walter Blackhawk came running to the ring to make sure there were no post match shenanigans. Roger Monteiro took a microphone.

Monteiro, “The Dog Soldiers pride ourselves on being honorable men. Win or lose, we stand in this ring and we give it our all. We don’t take any shortcuts. We don’t look for any handouts. We do things the old fashioned way. With sweat and blood and with being willing to sacrifice our bodies to become the best. Zippy Deverell and his band of goons clearly don’t want fair fights. They don’t want to do this the honorable way. They don’t want to fight cleanly and just see who the better team is -- and that’s fine. If that’s how they want it to be, so be it. We’re tired of doing this thing and we’re going to bring this thing to a close one way or another.”

Monteiro threw the microphone down and the rest of The Dog Soldiers gave various signs of approval and agreement.

American Gold versus Bred for Battle © w/ Andrew Gibson

The CWI Tag Team Championships -- the top tag team title in the entire Great Lakes region -- were on the line after the six man tag. This was a rematch from Circle City Classic II -- where Bred for Battle took the titles from American Gold -- albeit with some help from the Canadian Blonds. American Gold have established themselves as the premier babyface tag team in CWI since joining at the end of 2020 and they brought all that babyface fire here. Gibson’s Bred for Battle duo have been on fire since the end of 2020. Once they lost to the Dog Soldiers, they rebounded and have been almost unstoppable as a team. James Diaz looks to be every bit as good as his father was at the same age and Dreadnought looks like he could be following his father’s footsteps into stardom. The big man oozes star quality and has a must see thing about him. American Gold work a style very similar to Natural Storm in USPW -- the classic sell-sell-sell-comeback style (with Chamberlain typically being in the Eddie Howard role, though American Gold can each sell to let the other get the hot tag, something Natural Storm doesn’t often do). English flew around the ring for the bigger Diaz and Dreadnought -- who used their size, explosiveness, and raw power to pummel the smaller English (who is not a small man). The crowd urged English to make a tag and with every hard strike, big slam, or devastating double team move, they winced with him. English tried several times to make the tag to Chamberlain but he couldn’t get there. At one point, James Diaz had a Muay Thai Clinch on English and was able to throw several big knees into English’s midsection. Dreadnought hit a big Corner Avalanche that look like it steamrolled English and almost got the victory off of it -- but English dug down deep and managed to kick out. English leapfrogged over Dreadnought and rolled under a James Diaz clothesline in order to make the big tag to Maliek Chamberlain -- who came in with all the fire one would expect. He rocked Dreadnought and James Diaz with big strikes and his dropkick sent Dreadnought stumbling out of the ring to the floor. He hit a big Spinning Wheel Kick that knocked James Diaz off of his feet and before Dreadnought could get back in the ring, Chamberlain hit a rare-for-CWI Suicide Dive onto the big man that sent him into the guardrail and allowed Dreadnought to sell being down without having to take a flat-back bump. When Chamberlain rolled back in the ring, he was met with a blatant low blow from James Diaz that forced senior CWI official Jez McArthur to throw the match out and disqualify Bred for Battle -- giving American Gold the victory but allowing Bred for Battle to successfully retain the belts.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and good wrestling, American Gold defeated Bred for Battle in 11:29 when James Diaz was disqualified while fighting Maliek Chamberlain.

“The Indiana Strangler” Conner Threepwood versus “The Triple Threat” Davis Wayne Newton

Conner Threepwood looked to rebound from his loss to The Hangman at God, America, and Pro Wrestling against FCW standout (and Bootcamp Graduate) Davis Wayne Newtwon. Newton came out to the same music as the Canadian Blonds and was wearing a Canadians Blonds shirt -- though he did not come to the ring with the same over the top showmanship that the Blonds had been exhibiting. This was a much different match than the ones Threepwood had been having. The Indiana Strangler had been somewhat of a giant slayer in the twenty months that CWI had been open and Newton was no giant. Threepwood got to show the technical style that got him a contract with NOTBPW all those years ago and Newton got to show the brilliance that made him one of the most talked about free agents of the early 2010s. They went hold for hold, counter for counter. Newton was able to show why he’s called the Triple Threat when he hit a big moonsault onto Threepwood that almost got the three count, but Threepwood kicked out and locked in a Seated Dragon Sleeper that Newton had to fight out of. The crowd was into everything these guys did -- and when the match started to break down into a wild exchange of strikes, they were with it. Threepwood hit a German Suplex with a Bridge that almost got a three but Newton kicked out. Threepwood went to lock in the Stretch Plum, but with some slick maneuvering from Newton, he was able to get Threepwood up onto his shoulders for a Death Valley Driver that almost got a three count. Newton followed that up with a Fisherman’s Suplex and he got the three count and the big victory in his CWI debut.

In an exceptional match, Davis Wayne Newton defeated Conner Threepwood in 13:09 by pinfall with a Fisherman's Suplex.

Nate DeMarcus made the short walk to the ring. Steffi Chee was standing in it already with a microphone.

Chee, “Nate, you asked for some time tonight to address the World’s Six Man Champions -- The Canadian Blonds -- who are not here tonight.”

DeMarcus, “Most of whom aren’t here tonight. It looks like they’ve got a new guy in Davis Wayne Newton.”

Chee, “Excuse me. Most of whom aren’t here tonight. For the past year, you have been embroiled in a bitter rivalry with them. You’ve had some successes but also some failures. What do you want?”

DeMarcus, “I want them to quit running. I want them to quit hiding. I want them to quit taking shortcuts and hightailing it out of here. I want them to step in the ring with me and American Gold for the World Six Man titles and I want to solve this thing. I have goals, Steffi. Goals that the Canadian Blonds are keeping me from.”

Chee, “What goals do you think they’re keeping you from?”

DeMarcus, “Singles championship success. It was a year ago last month that they cost me the Indiana Heavyweight Championship and I’ve been so focused on them, on getting even, on trying to take something from them like they took something from me. In hindsight, that focus was probably a mistake, but I’m a proud man Steffi. And sometimes pride makes us do foolish things.”

Chee, “It certainly can. I’ve been victim of that myself. So you want the Canadian Blonds to face American Ambition for the World Six Man Championships here in CWI?”

DeMarcus, “Yes. And I want that to be the end of it. I want to stand in the ring and settle things the way men are supposed to settle them. The way warriors settle their issues. Win, lose, or draw, it will be the end of it. What do you say, Blonds? You up for it?”

“Spicy” Pepper Pelton versus “Lone Star” Samson Sharpe ©

The second of five title matches on the card was up next. Pepper Pelton had been on a roll since the tail-end of 2020 when he adopted the Spice Rack submission. Samson Sharpe, after stumbling at the end of 2020/beginning of 2021, has gotten his career back on the right track with several wins that culminated in winning the Indiana Heavyweight Championship. This was a match between two big hosses that exchanged hard strikes and didn’t do a lot in the way of selling. Both men were inexperienced and that inexperienced led to a couple of dry spots in the match where it just dragged. Pelton has gotten a lot better since he made his CWI debut and Sharpe has also shown a lot of improvement. Sharpe went for the Lariat several times but missed each attempt. Pelton hit a Running Powerslam that almost finished things off, but Sharpe was able to kick out. Sharpe hit several hard strikes and set up the Full Nelson Bomb when Roger Monteiro paid a visit to ringside and returned the distraction-favor that helped Sharpe win the Championship in the first place. This created an opening for Pelton to lock in the Spice Rack and Sharpe was forced to give it up.

In a decent match, Pepper Pelton defeated Samson Sharpe in 13:25 by submission with a Spice Rack after a distraction from Roger Monteiro. Pepper Pelton wins the CWI Indiana title.

Demelza Wade versus Felicia Luck ©

Coming into this match, Felicia Luck had the best momentum of anyone on the CWI roster outside of The Hangman. She has been on a tear and had several good matches in a row, including three straight title matches (first where she won the title and then her first two defences). Former USPW, AAA, and CWA standout Demelza Wade was the next challenger to stand in front of the young Luck. The crowd was very into seeing Wade -- who has had a lot of television exposure in her career and definitely had a Big League Star vibe to her. Wade has lost a step or two physically from her prime, but her ability to engage with the crowd still remains excellent and she was able to mask her declining physical ability with her charisma. They worked a slow and deliberate style. Wade, the cagey veteran, used every trick in the book. She faked an ankle injury to stop Luck’s progress and then thumbed her right in the eye once she had the opening. She pulled hair and used her leg to choke Luck while arguing with Graveson that she wasn’t doing anything illegal. It was a masterclass in how to do a little but get the most out of it. Luck has been coming into her own as the lead babyface of the Women’s Division and her comeback had energy and Wade took several big bumps off Luck’s offense. Luck hit her Lucky Strike and was able to get the pin and her third straight defence of the Women’s Championship.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and good wrestling, Felicia Luck defeated Demelza Wade in 12:49 by pinfall with a Lucky Strike. Felicia Luck makes defence number three of the CWI Women's.

Elmo Benson versus The Hangman

Last month, The Hangman completed a nineteen month journey to become COTT Mid American Champion with his decisive win over Conner Threepwood. It was also last month when Elmo Benson won the Independence Slam to get his second opportunity at the COTT Mid American title. The veteran Benson looked a little intimidated at the massive man standing across the ring from him. The Hangman had been unstoppable in CWI. Eighteen months after CWI started, The Hangman had still not been knocked off his feet. Benson tried to hit quick at the beginning of the match. He bounced around The Hangman and tried several kicks at the tree trunk like thighs of the champion. The Hangman was unphased and walked through all of Benson’s early offense. Benson hit the ropes and tried for a dropkick to the knee that landed flush but Hangman didn’t even stumble and Benson looked shocked. How do you stop a man that seems impervious to all of your offense? Benson didn’t have an answer to that question as The Hangman began his assault. It was direct and purposeful and The Hangman attacked with a sadistic precision. Every strike landed right where he wanted it to land. Over twenty months, The Hangman has shown himself to be a world-class brawler and he was really coming into his own. Benson was able to get away from Hangman long enough to try a springboard attack of some sort, but Hangman snatched him out of the air and hit him with a big Choke Slam that ended the match.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, The Hangman defeated Elmo Benson in 13:04 by pinfall with a Choke Slam. The Hangman makes defence number one of the COTT Mid American title.

Des Davids vs. “The Scout” Doc Hammond ©

For only the second time in CWI history, the COTT World Heavyweight title was on the line. The Champion? Legendary wrestler Doc Hammond, formerly Scout. The challenger? Former SWF North American Champion, the former MAW wrestler Des Davids. This was a match of stars. A match that the people in attendance were waiting for. Davids and Hammond are both excellent wrestlers. Des Davids was the heel here with Hammond as the sympathetic babyface champion. At 37 years of age, Davids was the younger of the two men and had not been through the wars that Hammond had in DAVE -- the USPW and SWF schedule mostly saved his body (outside of the Torn Rotator Cuff) while Hammond cut his teeth in the extremely physical style of DAVE and the work-rate heavy style of TCW. This was a masterclass in how to present a big match. Both men took their time. They didn’t rush into any spots. They took the people on a ride. Davids’ power against Hammond’s smooth technical work. Davids’ raw aggression against the calculated risks of Hammond. Hammond had twenty defences coming into this match and it was clear why. Everything Davids tried, Hammond had an answer for until Davids ducked under a clothesline attempt from Doc Hammond and hit a huge Quarterback Sack that turned Hammond inside out and Des Davids won the World’s Heavyweight Title!

In an exceptional match, Des Davids defeated Doc Hammond in 21:54 by pinfall with a Quarterback Sack. Des Davids wins the COTT World Heavyweight title.

Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis was back in action in Edinburgh, Indiana for a local show. This show was different from the recent outings as this show had several talents in on try-out contracts. Several young wrestlers who have recently graduated from wrestling school were in the building to see if they have what it takes to be on the fulltime CWI roster.</p><p> </p><p>

The opening match saw Minnesota Awesome defeat the makeshift team of Rafe Sashay and Lance Austin.</p><p> </p><p>

That was followed by Meryl Lavoie getting a much-needed win over rookie Francis Harris. Harris was remisicent of Suzanne Brazzle in this contest, albeit a rookie Suzanne.</p><p> </p><p>

"New York's Finest" Egon Merowitz got a victory over the big Indonesian grappler Joseph Chang. Chang stood 6'6" and is an impressive physical specimen that made for quite the physical challenge for the heavyhitter from New York.</p><p> </p><p>

Hank Gunn defeated Lance Whitworth.</p><p> </p><p>

Bear Barnes defeated AP Gumble in what was the best match of the night.</p><p> </p><p>

In the main event, Reece & Wells got a victory over Alma Crockett and Annette Kerr.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="uoEa8xj.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/uoEa8xj.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis will be back in action in the third week in September for Battle at the Crossroads. Coming off of the best night of wrestling that CWI has ever presented at the Railroad City Rumble, CWI looks to continue to build the positive momentum with another excellent show.</p><p> </p><p>

The main event will finally feature American Ambition and the Canadian Blonds for the World Six-Man Championships. For over a year, Nate DeMarcus has been at war with the Canadian Blonds and he and his friends American Gold are looking to take the World Titles from the Blonds.</p><p> </p><p>

The co-main event will see The Hangman look to make his second title defence as he puts the title on the line against former Puerto Rican Champion Island Boy Apollo. Apollo is an incredible talent who has been setting Puerto Rico on fire. Could he be the one to finally knock The Hangman off of his feet?</p><p> </p><p>

Felicia Luck will put the Women's Title on the line against Ava Anderson and so much more!</p><p> </p><p>

I've gone the "easy" route - J.K. Stallings as owner/booker of a created fed, lots of money but still starting at tiny. Got the best possible talent I could (started off with over people (read: old) who are unemployed, most of the available local talent, too...though I may start to get some talent currently working on handshake deals elsewhere) and really didn't know where to take it at first, so I let the road agent decide. Made for an interesting first choice and have been booking around the deficiencies.

It's taken a while for me to get used to the game - had been easily 2 years since I'd played the previous one.
