Championship Wrestling would like to send its deepest condolences out to the Threepwood family following the loss of Conner Threepwood. The proceeds from all three shows in the month of May will go to the Conner Threepwood Memorial Fund. We appreciate all of the fans that have reached out to make donations to the fund.

Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis was in action in Edinburgh, Indiana. The show was well received and started with a ten bell salute for Conner Threepwood.

The opening match saw Allie Perks defeat Merryl Lavoie.

The Player's Club defeated Ben Williams and Lance Austin.

Felicia Luck defeated Frances Harris.

In the semi final match, Mr. Grappling defeated Reginald Wilhem.

In the main event, Deverell's Army, represented by Samson Sharpe and the Taggs defeated The Cleansing.

The Bloomington show also started with a ten bell salute to Conner Threepwood.

The first match saw "The Rock" Robin DaLay defeat AP Gumble.

"The Sasquatch" Bear Barnes defeated Luis Torres.

In a ten woman tag team match, the team of The San Diego Girls, Reece, wells, and Ryder defeated The War Maidens, Lavoie, and Aubree Bailey.

The main event saw One Man Army and Hank Gunn wrestle to a time limit draw.

Goddamnit Historian, not again. First Jebediah and now Conner. :(

I know! I don't know what I did to deserve the bad luck!

Been silent on this thread for a couple of months but WHY HUCKLEBERRY WHY?!

As glad as I am to have you back, I'm sad that Huckleberry is what did it!

I agree he has the worst luck!!

I was never the biggest Conner mark, but dammit if I don't feel this death!

Conner was planned to be my top guy from the beginning because of being from Indiana -- it felt like a natural guy to build around. Now I have to throw that all out of the window -- and right before our biggest show of the year!

The Jebediah Curse strikes again.

RIP the Indiana Strangler

The Jebediah Curse should be an official Cannon TEW/GDS term.

What are the chances? Also in a aquarium ?

I'm not sure of the actual chances -- but it was the first time a ''Kenny Death' has happened to one of my top stars. Jebediah at least died just from a legit accident it wasn't something that on the surface would seem so comical.

I think this is the moment, Nate took out his former mentor last month and after Conners death, a big babyface win would be lovely to see.

Bred for Battle can easily retain here, there's so many different challengers for them in your tag division. But I think the Gold find a way to pull through and get the gold they lost to BfB back! It'd be a good night for American Ambition.

The women's division has felt unimportant to me really since Steph Blake retired. I'd love to see more stories for the ladies of CWI. Maybe a Blake return as a manager or something.

Gonna have to agree with the comment above about the women's division. Kinda sad to see it without a proper storyline, especially when Urena Frost is pretty much being part of the best matches of the card, constantly.

I know! I don't know what I did to deserve the bad luck!

You made a compelling story out of Jebediah's passing and made Riley McManus someone by pushing him in his place. The game simply wants to see you do more of that.

Conner was planned to be my top guy from the beginning because of being from Indiana -- it felt like a natural guy to build around. Now I have to throw that all out of the window -- and right before our biggest show of the year!

You can still do a Conner Threepwood memorial show/battle royal or something. It's all about the packaging, has to be respectful and not a cheap attempt to make a dollar out of his untimely death.

The Jebediah Curse should be an official Cannon TEW/GDS term.

Quick fan poll on the replacement term for "Kenny death"

- Jebediah death

- Threepwood death

- Historian death

Saturday Week 4, May 2022

Live from the Fountain Square Theatre [indianapolis, Indiana, Great Lakes, USA]

95 people in attendance (an increase of 9 fans in attendance from last show)

Commentators: Marv Earnest & Mark Hyatt

qSIrNZu.jpg?1aO4dY56.jpg

Earnest, “Hello everyone and welcome for the third annual Circle City Classic. We are back at the Fountain Square Theatre for what promises to be another great night of professional wrestling action. Normally I’d introduce Mark Hyatt and we would billboard the show, but tonight we have to start on a very sober tone. As most, if not all of you know, CWI was shocked to learn of the death of Conner Threepwood. Conner Threepwood was an integral part of the CWI roster and the backbone of the company. He was twice Mid American Champion. He was a true professional wrestler who took the sport of pro wrestling seriously and his loss was an earthquake that sent tremors through the entire sport.”

Hyatt, “He certainly was Marv. He was the best submission wrestler I’ve ever seen -- and I’ve watched tapes from all over the world. His Stretch Plum was an unstoppable hold. His loss will be felt for years here.”

Earnest, “Yes it will. Tonight’s show is dedicated to his memory. All proceeds from tonight’s show and the DVDs from this show will go to the Conner Threepwood Memorial Fund. CWIWrestling.com has released two special Conner Threepwood t-shirts that are also going to the Conner Threepwood memorial fund -- and every member of the CWI roster has gone on record to say they will donate all winning purses tonight to the Conner Threepwood Memorial Fund.”

Hyatt, “It is a very admirable thing that the athletes on the CWI roster are doing tonight. It should be a memorable night for the sport.”

Earnest, “It absolutely is and let’s go to the ring where our colleague Taylor Gordy is ready for the opening match introductions.”

Pepper Pelton, Hank Gunn, Matt Blackburn, & Minnesota Awesome versus Bear Barnes, the Canadian Blondes, & The Player's Club

The opening match of CWI’s flagship show was a big ten-person tag. It was clearly designed to be one of those matches to make sure guys got on the show as well as seeing what guys could do in the mix. At different times, all of these guys were primed to go to the next level -- the shining example Pepper Pelton -- who despite his great conditioning and being given the Spice Rack has yet to find that next level. Bear Barnes is probably the one most primed to be a star. The 6’11” Canadian (known in other places as Sasquatch McGraw) has all of the tools -- the look, the charisma, the willingness to bleed, fantastic basics for a guy his size. This was a solid affair though with everyone having a moment to shine and do some of their good stuff -- including Hank Gunn hitting a beautiful Flying Crossbody onto Robin DaLay. While the match broke down, Bear Barnes exploded across the ring with a Running Bit Boot that cleaned Clark Smallbone’s clock and allowed Bear Barnes to get the win for his team.

In a bout that had great heat and good wrestling, Charlie Corner, Jack Pryde, Flash Savage, Robin DaLay and Bear Barnes defeated Pepper Pelton, Hank Gunn, Matt Blackburn, Perry Longstaff and Clark Smallbone in 9:04 when Bear Barnes pinned Clark Smallbone with a Running Big Boot.

Lucy Stone-McFly versus Honey Badger

Last month, Honey Badger stole a victory from Lucy Stone-McFly and Lucy came into this match even more frustrated than before. This was a very physical technical bout. While they were going hold for hold, every slam hit a little harder -- every uppercut or forearm had just a little more heat behind it. Badger used several of Dan Stone Jr.’s trademark moves, including Dan Stone’s Canadian Slam (Olympic Slam) for a near fall, but Lucy wasn’t going down like that. She fought from underneath and hit a big enzuigiri kick that created an opening for her to hit a shotgun-style dropkick and then a running facewash that she followed up with a Delorean Driver.

In a bout that had great heat and good wrestling, Lucy Stone-McFly defeated Honey Badger in 9:59 by pinfall with a Delorean Driver.

Lucy Stone-McFly made the rookie mistake of turning her back on a downed opponent as she celebrated, and Badger pounced. She blasted Stone-McFly from behind with a lariat that would have made Pistol Pete proud. She followed that up with a Delorean Driver of her own and stood over Lucy. She screamed down at her.

Badger, “I’m the chosen one. I’m the God damned chosen one. Not you! I’m going to put you out of wrestling if it’s the last thing I do.”

Funky Fedora, Rafe Sashay & Phil Anders versus Deverell's Army w/ Haley Buck versus The Dog Soldiers ©

The triple threat six-man match was a wild, crazy affair. Funky Fedora was originally pencilled in to wrestle Conner Threepwood on this show and rumor is that the Canadian Blonds were supposed to be going against the Dog Soldiers here, but instead we had nine guys going at it (with “The Nebraska Stud” Phil Anders getting a primetime spot on this show). Funky Fedora looked like a star throughout the match. He just carried himself differently. He and Wild Red Stallion had a very good exchange in a match that the crowd was into but was probably a little too chaotic. Surprisingly, Samson Sharpe pinned Ace Youngblood after a Lariat to eliminate the Dog Soldiers and the two heel teams were left. Funky Fedora took over at that point and was able to hit his Top Rope Knee Drop on Samson Sharpe and surprisingly, Funky and his crew became World Six-Man Champions.

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, Funky Fedora, Rafe Sashay and Phil Anders defeated Dog Soldiers (Ace Youngblood, Wild Red Stallion and Roger Monteiro) and Deverell's Army (Samson Sharpe, Kalder Tagg and Wolfie Tagg) in 14:06; the order of elimination was Dog Soldiers (Ace Youngblood, Wild Red Stallion and Roger Monteiro) first, and then Deverell's Army (Samson Sharpe, Kalder Tagg and Wolfie Tagg). Funky Fedora, Rafe Sashay and Phil Anders win the COTT World Six Man titles.

In terms of in-ring work, Funky Fedora was head and shoulders above everyone else. Phil Anders was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.

Last year, CWI debuted the Independence Day Slam for the male competitors. This year, they have introduced the Memorial Day Slam. All twenty women started in the ring like a classic battle royal. This was the CWI debut for several women: Ashley Keith, Esperanza Montero, Frankie Carmello, La Hija del Phoenix, Piper Hale, Sophie Steele, and Tzilla specifically. Allie Perks, Annette Kerr, Mellow Flashhart, and Frances Harris have been working the spot shows but this was a big opportunity for all of them. Battle royals are never spectacular, but this was a solid affair. Ashley Keith and Frankie Carmello both look like future stars. Mellow Flashhart just oozed charisma and could be a major star in pro wrestling.

Order of Eliminations

Annette Kerr was eliminated by Coco Malloy

Merryl Lavoie was eliminated by Yvonne Ericks

Allie Perks was eliminated by Felicia Luck

Frances Harris was eliminated by Frankie Carmello

Yvonne Ericks was eliminated by Black Diamond

In a decent match, Felicia Luck won a battle royal in 14:42. The other members of the 'final four' were Coco Malloy, Joy Ryder and Ruby Reece, with Coco Malloy being the final elimination. Coco Malloy got the most eliminations over the course of the match.

The Texas Express versus The New Wave

The New Wave reunited for one night only here against the young team of The Texas Express. Two months ago, the Indiana State Athletic Commission stopped a match due to blood loss/injury that cost The Texas Express a trip to the March Madness finals. This was their first match back and they came out like a team of the future. The New Wave were one of the most experienced duos in wrestling history -- with tag titles in DAVE and TCW before they went their separate ways. They used all of that experience to control the match for several minutes before Cooper and Turk exploded and seized control. The New Wave were in the twilight of their career and this was clearly an opportunity for them to remind people of just how good of a duo they were. Scout was the general of the match -- the technical wizard while Guide/One Man Army took to the air and even took a spectacular bump when Turk hit a big dropkick while Guide was flying through the air. Guide somehow flipped backwards through the air and landed face first on the mat while Cooper Christie jumped off the top rope and drove his elbow in to Scout’s chest and The Texas Express got the huge win.

In an exceptional match, The Texas Express defeated The New Wave in 9:40 when Cooper Christie pinned Scout with a Top Rope Elbow Drop.

Scout carried the match in terms of in-ring performance.

“Indiana’s Finest” Mr. Grappling versus "The Hillbilly Outlaw" Zippy Deverell ©

Mr. Grappling had been on a roll lately. He had rolled off several big wins and now had the opportunity for the Indiana Heavyweight Championship against Zippy Deverell. This was a match the crowd had been waiting for. Deverell had been further embracing the Hillybilly Outlaw persona and it made for a great clash in styles. Grappling started the match wrestling circles around Deverell. He took him down and locked in a variety of holds that were designed more to frustrated the champion than win the match -- and frustrate Deverell they did. Deverell slid out of the ring and kicked at the guardrail and exchanged words with the fans. Grappling went at him and Deverell threw a closed right hand that caught Grappling flush. Referee Bret Graveson immediately warned Deverell about the closed fist and the champion ignore him, launching several more off into Grappling and Graveson warned him that one more would get him disqualified, but the damage had already been done. Deverell rolled Grappling back into the ring and took control. He hit several knee strikes on the downed Grappling and an elbow drop. Deverell has leaned more into the unpolished wrestler persona than when he first started in CWI and it has worked to his favor. He did hit a snap suplex on Grappling and a second rope elbow (in the style of Bret Hart) that was effective, but Grappling kicked out of the pin attempt. Deverell went for a Spinning Bulldog, but as he spun, Grappling kept the momentum going and turned it into a Sidewalk Slam that almost got him the victory. Grappling went for the Rip Chord DDT, but Deverell slipped out of his grip, so then Grappling kicked at the left knee and started chopping Deverell down. He locked in a Figure Four Lrglock and Zippy screamed in pain. He clawed at the legs and begged for the hold to be released but he refused to submit. Zippy grabbed at Graveson and then the canvas and then at Graveson again. He then crawled his way to the bottom rope and the champion forced a break -- that he got. Zippy pulled himself to his feet with the ropes and he looked hobbled. He begged Graveson for a moment to collect himself and Graveson stepped between Grappling so he could check on Zippy. Grappling, the ultra babyface, didn’t push the issue but then he came back on the attack and Zippy thumbed him in the eye right as Haley Buck came running to ringside. She hopped up on the apron and threw something towards Zippy -- which Bret Gaveson didn’t see as he came running over to demand she get down. Zippy grabbed the object and put it on… It was a Coal Miner’s Glove! Zippy hit Mr. Grappling right in the jaw with the glove on and Grappling dropped like he had been hit by a ton of bricks. Zippy hid his hand between himself and the mat and made the cover and the crowd booed heavily as Graveson turned around and counted the three and Deverell made the title defence.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Zippy Deverell defeated Mr. Grappling in 13:14 by pinfall after using an illegal object. Zippy Deverell makes defence number five of the CWI Indiana title.

Zippy waved to the back and the rest of Deverell’s Army came running to the ring. They all slid in the ring. Deverell pulled Grappling to his feet -- grappling still looked out of it when Samson Sharpe hit him with a Lariat to end all Lariats. That was followed up by Deverell hitting another right hand with the Coal Miner’s Glove on his fist. The Taggs were watching for anyone making the save -- and then they switched. The Taggs pulled Mr. Grappling out of the ring while Sharpe and Deverell held off the babyfaces who were coming to make the save. Kalder Tagg stood on the apron as Wolfie took Grappling to the floor and lifted him upside down. There was a hush in the crowd a Kalder leapt off and pushed down and Grappling’s feet -- right as Wolfie sat down for a Spike Piledriver on the unprotected wooden floor of the Fountain Square Theatre. Mr. Grappling lay completely motionless as Deverell’s Army hightailed it through the crowd and Marvin Earnest left the announce table to check on Grappling while the babyfaces were finally able to get to him. It took several minutes as Grappling was loaded onto a stretcher -- still without moving -- and rolled out of the building.

"The Mighty Atom" Izzy Quick versus Urena Frost ©

It was hard to follow up that angle, but Izzy Quick and Urena Frost got them back. Quick hadn’t been on alot of CWI shows recently because she had been working extensively in QAW -- where she hasn’t lost a match in 2020. Quick took to the air early. She hit an Around-the-World Headscissors on Frost that sent Frost scrambling to the outside and then Quick springboard off the second rope and up over the top to the outside where she landed for a huricanarana that sent Frost flipping onto the wooden floor and immediately the crowd was into it. Quick hit a Running Cannonball and Urena Frost was stumbling. Quick took Frost back into the ring and as she went for a Springboard Moonsault, Frost got her knees up into the ribs of Quick and was able to seize control. Frost hit a variety of power moves, including a Stalling Suplex and a Stretch Muffler that were all focused on Quick’s back. Frost hit several stiff kicks right into the back of Quick. She hit a wicked Double Stomp that almost ended the match, but Quick was able to kick out. Quick made a big comeback that was fueled by dropkicks and a Standing Moonsault. She sold her back throughout all of it -- she was a little slower than the start of the match and had several near falls before Frost took back over and hit a big Powerbomb that set up The Lunar Assault and got Urena Frost the victory

In an exceptional match, Urena Frost defeated Izzy Quick in 14:09 by pinfall with The Lunar Assault. Urena Frost makes defence number four of the CWI Women's title.

American Gold versus Bred for Battle © w/ Andrew Gibson

It was one year ago that these two teams first met. Last year, Bred for Battle was coming off of winning the March Madness tournament and they captured the Tag Team Titles here. Going into this, they had held the titles for exactly a year and had managed seven defences so far. They were the most dominant, physically imposing team in CWI’s history. American Gold was coming off winning the March Madness tournament themselves. Both teams have developed into high-quality units. Bred for Battle have really honed in their style -- their ultra physical in the way that both of their fathers were. They are just more explosive. American Gold have become a great classic tag team. They take a good beating and make great comebacks and this match was no different. Bred for Battle controlled a long stretch of the match, isolating Marcus English. They hit him with a variety of power offense and hard-hitting double teams, including several double suplexes. English sold everything well and the crowd was behind him, they begged for him to tag his partner and Bred for Battle kept the match on their side of the ring. The English hit a couple of dropkicks out of desperation and made the tag to Chamberlain who came in like a house of fire. He was definitely the star of the team. The air he could get on his dropkick was just wonderful and as he was getting his offense in, the crowd started to chant 2-1-3 (a reference to Detroit where Chamberlain is from). Chamberlain fed off their energy as he hit a big T-Bone Suplex on James Diaz. Diaz rolled out of the ring and left Dreadnought in there. Chamberlain and Dreadnought exchanged some blows when out of nowhere, English Superkicked the big man and Dreadnought stumbled back into Maliek Chamberlain who hit him with a big Belly to Belly Suplex and the crowd roared as American Gold became CWI Tag Team Champions for the second time!

In an exceptional match, American Gold defeated Bred for Battle in 12:44 when Maliek Chamberlain pinned Dreadnought with a Superkick/Belly To Belly Combo. American Gold win the CWI Tag Team.

Nate "the Great" DeMarcus versus The Hangman ©

The third match in the trilogy. What started in January was going to end here. It took several minutes to get the cage up and the crowd took that time to get refills on snacks and buy some merchandise -- but no one left during the match. This was must-see action. The Hangman had only been knocked off his feet twice in two and a half years -- both times by Nate DeMarcus. Right from the beginning of the match, it was clear that this was going to be brutal and hard-hitting -- and it was. This wasn’t a USPW cage match. This wasn’t an SWF cage match. This was a classic territory cage match. Both men bled -- from their faces, from their arms and backs. There was no escaping the cage. Hangman took multiple bumps in this match for the fed-up Nate DeMarcus -- and Nate DeMarcus got lawn-darted into the cage and the whole structured wobbled. The Hangman hit a big boot and Nate kicked out. The Hangman hit his Choke Slam -- a move that has ended every match he has been in and Nate DeMarcus kicked out! The crowd was beside themselves and The Hangman sold the disbelief. He couldn’t believe it. Someone had kicked ut of his Choke Slam -- and Nate went on offense and The Hangman flew for him. Nate hit multiple German Suplexes and the crowd exploded for each one of them and then Nate DeMarcus hit the Snap Tackle and Nate DeMarcus made the pin and became COTT Mid American Champion!

In an exceptional match, Nate DeMarcus defeated The Hangman in a Cage match in 14:45 by pinfall with a Snap Tackle. Nate DeMarcus wins the COTT Mid American title.

Great Show. I enjoy Hangman quite a bit. Are you making money or no? What size are you at atm? A shame about Conner Threepwood there was a 'common man' type of style to him, imo. Apparently he had a lot of taste too, at least, the shark probably thought so!

Not yet — at least not consistently. When we first started we were, but the economy and industry are in the toilet. We have bottomed our in the industry at a 1 right now — so hopefully that starts to climb. The two secondary shows help us with money because the talent there is super cheap but it increases our ad revenue and our ticket sales — they are currently lesser shows. So they don’t draw full houses but they draw enough to help us.

We are still insignificant. We started at a 0 popularity and with the wrestling business in the toilet our progress has been slower despite gaining popularity each month.

<p>Love the talent trade, haven’t used it yet but it’s awesome to see it utilized. I remember hearing about trades in the territory days and I was so happy to see it brought in for 2020. You’ve been an awesome job of bringing a territory feel with a modern twist.</p><p> </p><p>

The Ladies Night announcement is sweet, I love the name and hopefully this means more spots for women for stories. I would like to see the War Maidens have more consistency. I feel like they randomly appear together then go months not being together.</p>

It’s one of my favorite new features too and I’m glad I got a chance to showcase it. I want to tell more stories for the women and the goal is for ladies night to give them more of a platform to develop, cut promos, etc. I want to showcase the Maidens as a crew — but part of that had been hampered by them working elsewhere too and not always being available! Hopefully with the women’s show i can get them some more consistent groupings too.</p>
