Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis returns to the Fountain Square Theatre for the biggest show of their calendar year as they present the fourth annual Circle City Classic. Join us the night before the Indy 500 as we present the very best professional wrestling you can find.

It all comes to a head as Circle City Classic IV looks to settle grudges and scores. Nate DeMarcus challenges Funky Fedora for the Mid American Championship inside a fifteen foot high steel cage. The only way to win is by pinfall or submission. No interference. No disqualifications. No countouts. Just two men fighting for a championship the way pro wrestling intended it to be.

The Texas Express and American Gold meet once again. Last month, American Gold stole a victory. Will they be so lucky this time? FREEDOM challenges for the World Six-Man Championship after getting the non-title victory last month. The Hangman and Zippy Deverell once again step into the ring. Will the Hangman walk out with a victory again? Or will The Hillbilly Outlaw shock the world and defeat a man who has only been pinned once in four years? Tameka Sky looks to continue her dominant reign as Women's Champion as she defends against the submission specialist Stella Saint. Ashley Keith and Lucy Stone McFly look to break a tie in their series against each other. It is currently 1-1-1 -- so who will be the one to gain the edge in what has become a hotly contested series? Mr. Grappling is fresh off of his win of the Conner Threepwood Memorial Cup and looks to knotch his ninth defense of the Indiana Heavyweight title -- something hat would break the tie between him and Zippy Deverell for most defenses in a reign.

All of that and so much more. Get your tickets today!

Just wanna say, that segment with Marvin getting frustrated with the slow progress in CWI... Man, that hit too close from home for me, cause I'm kinda passing through the same problem. This year hasn't been kind, specially this second half of it, but I guess we gotta follow that old saying "Keep Calm and Carry On".

Saturday Week 4, May 2023

Live from the Fountain Square Theatre [indianapolis, Indiana, Great Lakes, USA]

116 people in attendance (a decrease of 1 fans from last show)

Commentators: Marv Earnest & Mark Hyatt

qSIrNZu.jpg?1aO4dY56.jpg

Earnest, “Hello everyone and welcome back to the Fountain Square Theatre for another exciting night of professional wrestling action as presented by Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis. We are bringing you the biggest show in CWI’s calendar year -- the granddaddy of Indianapolis professional wrestling, Circle City Classic! This is the fourth annual installment of this series and what a lineup we have for you tonight. From start to finish, CWI is going to present the finest action in independent wrestling tonight and joining me in calling all of the matches -- he is the voice of the one percent -- Mark Hyatt!”

Hyatt, “And I’m honored to be the voice of a group that really doesn’t get heard. Our problemcs are punchlines and not taken seriously but tonight isn’t about me. Tonight is about pro wrestling and I couldn’t be happier to be here -- even if it is in this smelly building. Did we check to make sure all of the fans were wearing deodrant?”

Earnest, “I don’t know if we did, but I also don’t think we can.”

Hyatt, “Well we should implement that policy -- especially when Funky Fedora finally puts Nate DeMarcus behind him tonight when he beats him from pillar to post inside the Steel Cage. Funky is going to let the world know that he’s the Cadillac Man and he’s the Mid American Champion and he’s going to STILL be the Mid American Champion after tonight.”

Earnest, “He very well could leave as the Mid American Champion, but he could also very well find himself without the belt. Nate DeMarcus is incredibly motivated.to win back the belt he feels like he didn’t fairly lose. Plus, the Tag Titles, the Women’s Title, and the Indiana Heavyweight Title are all on the line tonight. You don’t want to miss a second of this action -- and the action starts right now.”

Matt Blackburn versus "The Tiny Terror" Flash Savage

The show opened with a rare singles appearance for Flash Savage. Blackburn, the reigning PGHW Historical Champion, looked excellent in what was a superb opening contest. It was a faster paced match -- with Flash Savage getting to show some of the lucha-inspired offense he learned when he moved to Mexico after his NOTBPW run had ended. Blackburn got to land some stiff strikes -- including a wicked kick to Flash’s knee that echoed off the walls of the Fountain Square Theatre. Blackburn hit the Springboard Forearm on Flash Savage to get the win to start the show off.

In a superb match, Matt Blackburn defeated Flash Savage in 5:32 by pinfall with a Springboard Forearm.

Hank Gunn & Pepper Pelton versus Rafe Sashay & Phil Anders

We came out of the opening match into a tag match with a lot of heat and solid enough wrestling for four young talents. Sashay and Anders are good, natural heels and were able to really draw some heat in the short match. This was a basic tag match. There was a good opening shine where Pelton got to show off his strength and Gunn got to show his blend of technical prowess and aerial ability. Sashay and Anders didn’t do anything fancy -- they did basic heat spots but they were effective and when Sashay pinned Pelton and got his feet on the second rope to the extra leverage -- it really drew the ire of the fans.

In a bout that had great heat and decent wrestling, Phil Anders and Rafe Sashay defeated Hank Gunn and Pepper Pelton in 8:22 when Rafe Sashay pinned Pepper Pelton while using the ropes for leverage.

Zippy Deverell came walking to the ring. He was as disshelved as ever. It had been months since he had last held the Indiana Heavyweight Championship and being away from it seems to have taken its toll on him. He took the microphone from Taylor Gordy and stood in the center of the ring, silent for a long time.

Deverell, “The Hangman wants to end me. He believes himself to be the spectre of justice or some bullshit like that and he wants to make me pay for my sins, but look at me. Haven’t I already paid? Haven’t I suffered enough? It’s been months since she’s been in my arms. Months that I’ve had to watch Mr. Grappling parade her around like some sort of cheap trophy. He’s noy taking care of her. Isn’t that my punishment? Isn’t that my suffering? Not according to Hangman. He wants to make me suffer more and Hangman. Do your worst. I’m begging you. ‘Cause if you don’t -- if you don’t put me down, I’m going to win her back. She’ll be mine again. I’m a desperate man, Hangman. And I am willing to do whatever I’ve got to do to get back what is mine. You stand in my way and I’m going to have to put you down.”

Zippy left the ring with purpose.

"Dapper" Danny Draper versus "Indiana's Finest" Mr. Grappling ©

Former CWA standout “Dapper” Danny Draper -- who wasn’t resigned as CWA continues to retool their roster -- made his main show debut here. The charismatic youngster has all the tools to be a prime time player, but was caught in the lower-card shuffle of a bloated CWA main roster, CWA does have a developmental agreement with Black Maple Championship Wrestling, but that hasn’t stopped their main roster from being clogged with lots of talent and Draper was deemed surplus to requirements. Mr. Grappling has been on an incredible roll since returning from the Spike Piledriver that he suffered one year ago. His win last month in the first annual Conner Threepwood Memorial Cup has him set up for a big second half of 2023. Grappling and Draper had a very good, slow contest. It was old school and really allowed Draper to showcase what he’s capable of. He’s a big, strong, good looking kid and he was able to really work as a good old-school heel -- the kind of heel that the DeColts were perfect at creating. Grappling seemed to really be in his element here helping to make Draper look like a star in the making. Grappling was able to really take over after about seven minutes and really took out Draper’s knee -- including locking in the Figure Four Leglock to get the submission victory.

In a superb match, Mr. Grappling defeated Dapper Danny Draper in 10:11 by submission. Mr. Grappling makes defence number nine of the CWI Indiana title.

The Memorial Day Slam was back here -- this time with 25 women. There was no guarantee of a title shot in this match, just the cash prize. All of the women in the match were motivated to do well -- for women like Perks, Kerr, Bailey, and Harris this was a very rare appearance on the main show and they were all motivated to impress and really prove themselves. It definitely helped. Ericks and Diamond went at it for most of the match and really seemed to be building a major rivalry.

Lucy Stone-McFly versus Ashley Keith

For the fourth time, Lucy Stone-McFly and Ashley Keith stepped into the ring with one another. This has developed into one of the premier rivalries in CWI. It’s a generational rivalry. Two women whose families helped build pro wrestling. Stone-McFly was Canadian royalty, the heiress to all of Canadian wrestling and Ashley Keith was perhaps the brightest young prospect in wrestling. One again, these two women really went at it. They didn’t have as much time as they have had in the past -- and that probably hurt the match because these are two women who really like to have time to work. This continued the progression of their story -- what started in match one as a purely technical affair has progressed to a more physical affair. Lots of salt on the strikes. Ashley Keith was really after Lucy, really trying to get her set up for the Proton Lock -- but Lucy kept wrestling out of it and trying to pick up the pace. Lucy ended up hitting the Delorean Driver and going up 2-1-1.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Lucy Stone-McFly defeated Ashley Keith in 16:18 by pinfall with a Delorean Driver.

Texan Justice versus The Taggs © w/ Haley Buck

The CWI Tag Team Championship was up next. These were two very physical teams. There was some extra added story on this from Samson Sharpe having been a former member of Deverell’s Army against his former partners. Plus, you had four big hoss-types. Two big rough Texans that didn’t have a lot of polish but had a lot of physicality and played the role of the wild cowboys perfectly against two big Montana mountain men from the foothills of the Beartooth Mountains. There weren’t any holds in this. It was all fists and elbows and knees and kicks and headbuts and snarls and sweat flying and spit flying. It was a wild, physical match up. Haley Buck tried to throw the moonshine into Samson Sharpe’s eyes, but he ducked and spun Wolfie Tagg around and hit the Full Nelson Bomb to get the win and Texan Justice won the Tag Team titles!

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Texan Justice defeated The Taggs in 14:39 when Samson Sharpe pinned Wolfie Tagg with a Full Nelson Bomb. Texan Justice win the CWI Tag Team.

Stella Saint versus "The Monolith" Tameka Sky ©

The Canadian technician Stella Saint had a big opportunity against “The Monolith” Tameka Sky. Sky had been unstoppable so far as a wrestler in CWI. Just a monster of a woman who had been on a wrecking path -- a path of destruction. This was no different. Saint wasn’t ever able to really get started, this was all Sky. She tossed around Saint. She pummeled her. She slammed her. She hit a big Stalling Suplex where she held Saint up for over a minute. She then hit a monstrous Powerbomb that looked like it rocked the ring. Sky got her fifth successful defense.

In a bout that had great heat and good wrestling, Tameka Sky defeated Stella Saint in 5:48 by pinfall. Tameka Sky makes defence number five of the CWI Women's title.

The Hangman versus "The Hillbilly Outlaw" Zippy Deverell

The Hangman and Zippy Deverell had been building to this. Their second singles match. The Hangman controlled the vast majority of the match. Deverell was on full sell mode for the Hangman. Hangman was very physical and the crowd was fully behind the spectre of vengeance -- the wild west executioner and the justice of CWI. Deverell kept getting in some offense. The Hangman hit the Chokeslam and for the first time in CWI history, someone kicked out of it. The crowd was shocked that Zippy Deverell somehow dug deep to kick out. The Hangman looked shocked. He hit a massive clothesline that sent Deverell out of the ring. Being on the floor, Deverell crawled around the ring and reached under, pulling something out. It was the Coal Miner’s Glove. He slipped it on his hand and hid his hand. Hangman pulled Deverell into the ring and before The Hangman knew what happened -- Deverell clocked him with the glove. The referee was out of position and didn’t see the glove and Deverell slipped the glove off and shoved it down his pants and made the cover and Zippy Deverell got the big win.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Zippy Deverell defeated The Hangman in 12:02 by pinfall by using underhanded tactics.

FREEDOM w/ Lucinda Lush versus The Dog Soldiers ©

Last month, FREEDOM won the non-title clash between the two teams and now we were set for a World’s Title match. The Dog Soldiers, in their second reign as World Six Man Champions, were looking to prove that they were still the top trio in wrestling. FREEDOM was looking to cement themselves as the top trio in wrestling. Last month, Juggernaut Jones and Wild Red Stallion did not get involved with one another, but in this match the two big bulls finally locked horns and the crowd was into seeing the two big heavyweights smashing into one another. It was like two bulls in the wild locking horns in a rut. Xavi and Marco worked like a smooth tag team with Juggernaut being the power enforcer and Ace and Roger did the same -- it looks like Ace and Roger might be positioning as a team moving forward -- especially once Xavi hit the High Impact Frog Splash to get the three count and FREEDOM the World Six Man Championship.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and good wrestling, FREEDOM (Xavi Ferrera, Marco Gonzalez and Juggernaut Jones) defeated Dog Soldiers (Ace Youngblood, Wild Red Stallion and Roger Monteiro) in 14:23 when Xavi Ferrera pinned Roger Monteiro with a High Impact Frog Splash. Xavi Ferrera, Marco Gonzalez and Juggernaut Jones win the COTT World Six Man titles.

In terms of in-ring work, Xavi Ferrera was head and shoulders above everyone else.

The Texas Express versus American Gold

These two teams have really been at each other’s throats recently in a feud that has been going on for over a year. It started off as a friendly rivalry and built into something more intense. Two teams trying to prove that they are the top team in the company. This is a contest that could easily have an affect on who gets a World Tag Team Title shot in the future. They had plenty of time to get into their story and they settled into a great modern tag team match. There were lots of near-falls and false finishes throughout the match. Maliek Chamberlain continued to look like a shining star and a guy who could really be something as a singles competitor if the decision was ever made to give him a little run. Chamberlain and English really worked on Turk. The one thing about the Texas Express that really helps them is that both of them have the ability to take the heat -- so they can alternate who takes the heat and who gets the hot tag, making each match seem more fresh. At one point, English draped Turk over the top rope and tagged in Chamberlain. Chamberlain slingshotted himself into the ring and hit a senton into the exposed back of Turk and it was wicked looking. The hot tag was explosive and Cooper was a house of athletic fire that cleaned house and then the Texas Rising came and the Express got the big win.

In an exceptional match, The Texas Express defeated American Gold in 20:01 when Cooper Christie pinned Marcus English with a Texas Rising.

Maliek Chamberlain carried the match in terms of in-ring performance.

Nate "the Great" DeMarcus versus Funky Fedora ©

The main event was here. A fifteen foot high steel cage surrounded the ring. There were no escapes from the cage. The only way to win was pinfall or submission. This was the second straight year that the Circle City Classic has been headlined by a cage match featuring Nate DeMarcus. Last year, Nate DeMarcus defeated The Hangman in the cage to win the Mid American Championship. Could he repeat the feat tonight -- this time against Funky Fedora? This was a really good main event. Funky made this feel very “Memphis”. There were lots of big bumps -- Funky flew through the air -- and lots of blood. Funky started bleeding early on and the blood got in his blonde hair and made for extra drama. Nate also bled -- both from his face and his back. They definitely made the cage look vicious. Like it was a metal object of pain. They worked throwing each other into the cage and using the cage as a weapon. Several times through the match, Funky Fedora tried to escape -- he tried to get away, but Nate stopped him each time. Funky got trapped between the ropes and the cage and got really punished as Nate threw several big closed fists shots that sent Funky crashing back-first into the cage and then into the ropes and then back into the cage. Funky hit several big chops on Nate and hit the Slingshot Back Suplex that got a near fall -- but Nate managed to kick out. Funky also came off the top rope for a huge Top Rope Knee Drop -- a move that has won him many matches -- but Nate kicked out of that too. CWI doesn’t do a lot of kick-outs from signature moves and in this one match, Nate kicked out of BOTH of Funky’s moves. The crowd was on their feet. Both men were bleeding profusely. Blood stains dotted the canvas. They looked exhausted -- but not from lack of cardio, from the war that had been in. Funky went for another Slingshot Back Suplex, but Nate flipped over him and immediately took off into the ropes. When Funky turned around -- he got hit with a Snap Tackle that sent him flying into the cage. Funky stumbled away from the cage and got hit with a second Snap Tackle. Nate made the cover and Jez McArthur counted the three and we had a new champion.

In an exceptional match, Nate DeMarcus defeated Funky Fedora in a Cage match in 24:15 by pinfall with a Snap Tackle. Nate DeMarcus wins the COTT Mid American title.

Nate DeMarcus stood in the ring as they began to undo the cage to pull it down. Funky Fedora was out in the corner of the ring. Selling the war. Nate held in his hands the Mid American Championship -- a championship that was stolen from him five months ago when he had a broken arm. He looked around at the crowd with blood leaking from the opening on his forehead and from several spots on his arms. He hoisted the Mid American Championship above his head. The crowd was cheering. Chanting his name. We have a new champion.

He sat on the bench and exhaled deeply. He had a towel pressed to his head, applying pressure to get the blood to clot. It had been a vicious cage match -- the kind of cage match that he had only ever really seen on tape from the old territory days. He and Funky had wanted to tell an old school story. They had wanted to go out into the ring and bleed and make the people care and they had done that. Nate was proud of that. He was proud of the story they had told. The people had been with them. They had bought in. Funky was a great heel, a really great heat-seeking heel that wasn’t afraid to have people hate him and Nate had been able to really be the babyface. The big babyface who had to overcome all of the odds and get here. It wasn’t supposed to be him. It was supposed to be PJ or Conner but life had decided that neither of those things were going to happen so the spot had gone to Nate.

He shifted which hand held the towel and looked up to see a still bloody Terry Fedora standing in front of him. Terry’s blonde hair was red and he, like Nate, was trying to clot the blood before getting in the shower.

1bzWlKA.jpg

“Good shit out there.” Terry said and held his fist out towards Nate.

Nate bumped his fist off Terry’s. “Thanks for the match.” It was just a trope of being in the wrestling business. Of saying thank you after. Thank you for not hurting me. Thank you for doing business. Thank you for being a pro. Nate didn’t like Terry. They weren’t the same kind of people. Terry was a party-animal. He liked to drink and dance and smoke cigars and drink women. He was flashy and all Beale-street-charisma and Nate was Baltimore. Nate quiet and softer spoken. Nate worked out and ate right and tried to keep himself in the best of shape. He still lived in Baltimore and made the trip to CWI for shows. Sam Keith still hadn’t shown faith in him to really get the MAW machine behind him -- but he was the top face in CWI and that meant something. Terry only worked for CWI. He was the top heel. He was a great promo and was the perfect contrast to Nate.

Terry was still standing in front of Nate. “You want to get a drink after all this.”

Nate shook his head. “Nah. We’re not supposed to mix after the show. You know the rules.”

Terry shrugged. “So?”

Nate shrugged back, “Rules are rules.”

Terry, “There’ll be girls.”

Nate, “I’ve got a girl.”

Terry, “So? She’s not here?”

Nate, “But she still exists.”

Terry, “What she doesn’t know --”

Nate cut Terry off, “Still happened and I’m not that kind of guy.”

Terry shrugged and smiled even with the bloodstains on his face. “More for the rest of us then. You’re really going to be missing out. It’s going to be wild, baby.”

Terry walked off to go talk to someone else and Nate was reminded once again why they weren’t friends. Terry was a horndog. He wasn’t ashamed of it. He bragged about it. He was the guy in the locker room who wasn’t afraid to stand there twisting dixie in the wind while telling you about a girl he got the night before or a girl he thought he was going to get after the show. That had never been Nate’s way. Nate wasn’t a prude -- far from it. You didn’t get 6’5” and 285 pounds of muscle and not attract attention from the opposite sex. He was no stranger to a one night stand or a fling, but he had a serious relationship now. A relationship that wanted him to leave CWI because she couldn’t stand Marv and Nate saw her point. Marv could be an ass. He was old school. He didn’t play with kid gloves. He forgot that this wasn’t 1985 anymore and you couldn’t talk to guys like you could in the territory days -- days that Marv didn’t even see. But Marv was also the only one who saw Nate as a top guy.

Nate knew he wasn’t national star material. He wasn’t ever going to be World Champ. He knew he didn’t have the charisma for it. He wasn’t a great promo. He’d gotten better and would continue to work on it -- but he was closing in on 30. He wasn’t about to suddenly be Funky or Zippy on the microphone. That wasn’t his strength. He also knew he wasn’t a great wrestler. He was good. Solid. Believable. He was a solid brawler and he could call it in the ring. He was athletic and strong, he had great fundamentals, he was safe and consistent and could sell. He was dependable and he knew that, but he also knew that he wasn’t an X-factor guy. He wasn’t on the radar of any of the major leagues and he was fine with that because he truly believed that he could carve out a niche for himself working the COTT territories. Maybe he’d never be World Heavyweight Champion, but he could be the top guy in the CWI and who knows, maybe he could catch a break. If he kept working hard? If he kept pushing himself -- who knows how things would break.

He pulled the towel off of his head and reached up to feel the wound. It felt like it clotted. He stood up and could feel the stiffness setting in. He was going to be sore tonight, tomorrow and probably the next few days. He had gone out of his way to work hard tonight. To prove that maybe he could be a top star. He was realistic, but he still had dreams. Terry could be a big star. He had the charisma for it. Same with Zippy. Hangman had the skills. Nate was just trying to prove that he belonged in the conversation. He wasn’t wild or over the top, but he was meat-locker. He was a grinder. Now it was time to take it to the next level.

He started to head towards the communal men’s shower -- the men and women, of course, showering separately. On his way, he passed Terry Fedora holding court with the Taggs and Texan Justice. Terry had stripped down to just his boots and was, as he tended to be, letting it all hang loose as he described exactly what he planned on getting into tonight. Terry saw Nate and lit up.

“Champ.” That Memphis drawl curled out of Terry’s mouth. “You sure you don’t want to come with? It’s going to be a blast.”

Nate just sighed. “I’m sure man.”

Nate turned the corner to the shower as he heard just a bit of what Terry was saying.

Terry, “I’m telling y’all. He ain’t going to last at the top. They’ll put the strap back on me. He isn’t going to draw. We started popping houses with me. It’s only a matter of time.”

Nate didn’t say anything. He wanted to. He wanted to come back around the corner and let Terry know that he wasn’t going to drop the strap back to him. That he wasn’t going to job to him again if that’s how Terry felt about him. He wanted to curse and yell obscenities -- but he also knew that if Marv told him to job, he would. He was too much of a professional. He also knew that Terry could be right. Maybe he couldn’t draw. Or wouldn’t. But Nate was bound and determined to prove him wrong. “ F**k him. Let him say what he wants.” Nate said to himself. He was the Champ once again and he still had mountains to move and things to prove.

Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis followed Circle City Classic IV up with their monthly trip to Edinburgh at the start of each month. The show was action packed and was headlined by Mr. Grappling putting the Indiana Heavyweight Championship on the line for the tenth time -- this time against Neil Warburton -- the British grappler known for the Texas Cloverleaf. We also saw a rematch of the Circle City Classic IV tag match with Hank Gunn and Pepper Pelton taking on Rafe Sashay and Phil Anders.

Match One: In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Nebo Martell defeated Dan Stone III in 12:12 by submission with an Inferno Special.

Match Two: In a bout that had great heat and decent wrestling, Hank Gunn and Pepper Pelton defeated Rafe Sashay and Phil Anders in 16:39 when Hank Gunn pinned Phil Anders with a Super Kick.

Main Event: In a superb match, Mr. Grappling defeated Neil Warburton in 32:27 by submission. Mr. Grappling makes defence number ten of the CWI Indiana title.

CWI's monthly trip to Bloomington, Indiana for Ladies Night was another successful show. This show was highlighted by a four way dance to crown the first ever CWI All-Action Champion, the secondary championship for women in CWI!

Match One: In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, The Bootcamp defeated Aubree Bailey and Merryl Lavoie in 7:09 when Felicia Luck pinned Aubree Bailey with a Hard Knocks.

Felicia Luck carried the match in terms of in-ring performance.

Match Two: In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Frances Harris defeated Joanne Broughton in 10:29 by pinfall with a Cosmic Face-Plant.

Mellow Flashhart came to the ring and said that while she's not in action tonight, she has her eyes set on being the All Action Champion, because what a better way to put the Bomb in American Bombshell than with something designed for action!

Match Three: In a decent match, Reece & Wells defeated Holly Sims and Vera Bull in 9:07 when Ruby Reece pinned Vera Bull with a Double Super Kick.

Main Event: In a decent match, Black Diamond defeated Stella Saint, Frankie Carmello and Piper Hale in 23:35 when Black Diamond pinned Piper Hale with a handful of tights. Black Diamond wins the CWI All Action title.

<p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="wSdfNqm.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wSdfNqm.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

I ran my fingers through my hair and looked at the crowded room in front of me. There were too many people in this room.</p><p> </p><p>

Dan Stone III, Hank Gunn, Pepper Pelton, Rafe Sashay, Phil Anders, Flash Savage, Robin DaLay, Stella Saint, Aubree Bailey, Merryl Lavoie.</p><p> </p><p>

And Virgil. The Hangman.</p><p> </p><p>

I sighed. "Folks. I gathered you all here just... Well. To say thank you."</p><p> </p><p>

I hated this part -- but Grace had told me I had been too mean to people upon their exit from the company. I looked at the one group -- the group not including the Hangman. They were all headed to CWA or to their developmental BMCW. CWA had called up several people onto their roster and so they were signing more people to stock Black Maple. I understood it. Understood the purpose of it, but it hurt. A lot of my young core was leaving. Guys who I had plans for. The Canadian Blonds were officially leaving. The last of them headed back to written deals. The f*****g Canadians. If I had more money or prestige, we would go to war. I clearly hadn't learned my lessons. The Canadian companies and Canadian wrestlers loved to leave me.</p><p> </p><p>

"You guys worked hard for the time you were here. I appreciate everything you did for me, for CWI and I wish you all the best. I just wanted a moment to say that. You've all signed your deals and have thirty days or less remaining and I just wanted to tell you thank you."</p><p> </p><p>

They murmered different responses of 'your welcome' or 'no problem' or some other cliche crap that I didn't really care about. I was losing eleven people that I had been using. Eleven guys and gals that would be done by the first week of July. Some of them weren't going to be booked again. Others were going to do the favors on their last appearances. The crowd dispersed and it left me and Hangman -- Virgil.</p><p> </p><p>

The big Texan flipped his hair out of his eyes. "You know it wasn't personal."</p><p> </p><p>

I nodded. "I know."</p><p> </p><p>

"It's security. It's $47k and two years and a chance to be on weekly TV -- even if it's on WrestleWorld. It's a chance."</p><p> </p><p>

I nodded again. "I know, Virgil."</p><p> </p><p>

"I wanted to say thank you." He said in that Texas drawl. He held a big meaty hand out. "You gave me a chance to show what I can do and it paid off. I will always be grateful for that."</p><p> </p><p>

I took his hand and shook it. Of course I wasn't mad at him. He had been making less than a hundred a night for me. He had never asked for a raise despite busting his ass and working hard. He had developed into a great brawler with a surprising amount of hardcore ability. He would take big bumps if he was asked -- I just never asked him to. He was charismatic. He was menacing. If I was supposed to be like what Rip and Sam had set up in Baltimore, I was supposed to be a place guys worked and then left. </p><p> </p><p>

"Kick ass." I told him and he nodded and left and that was that. A goodbye that wasn't memorable. It was just a thank you and a handshake and an exit and I was left trying to figure out where we were going to go from here.</p>

After the blockbuster night of wrestling action that was Circle City Classic IV, join Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis as we celebrate the end of another school year with another great night of pro wrestling action at the Fountain Square Theatre.</p><p> </p><p>

Nate DeMarcus, the newly crowned Mid American Champion, looks to make his first defense of the championship as he takes on former TCW star Titan in what should be a very physical match up. Lucy Stone-McFly, fresh off of back-to-back wins over Ashley Keith challenges Tameka Sky for the Women's Championship. Last time Sky and Stone-McFly met, Sky walked away as the new Women's Champion. That was seven months and five title defenses ago. Will the result be the same?</p><p> </p><p>

Former CWA and MAW Tag tea Champions, The Dynamite Express, make their CWI debut as they challenge Texan Justice for the Tag Team Titles. CWA shocked the wrestling world over the past few months when they chose not to resign either member of the Express. Their loss could be CWI's gain. Will the Express claim the Tag Championships in their first match in CWI or will Texan Justice make their first title defense?</p><p> </p><p>

Seven months after their vicious Coal Miner's Glove match, Zippy Deverell and Mr. Grappling meet once again for the Indiana Heavyweight Championship. Mr. Grappling has been on a record-setting reign with the championship. He has amassed ten successful defenses going in to this match -- the most defenses of any championship in CWI history. Will Deverell be able to reclaim the championship he so covets? Or will Mr. Grappling notch defense number eleven?</p><p> </p><p>

Earnest, “Hello everyone and welcome back to the Fountain Square Theatre for another exciting night of professional wrestling action as presented by Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis. School is Out and we’re here for, funny enough, School’s Out. I’m joined tonight by Mark Hyatt.

Hyatt, “Welcome back to the Fountain Square Theatre, Marv. I’m looking forward to tonight’s pro wrestling action. The Dynamite Express is making their debut! Zippy Deverell is finally going to get back the Indiana HEavyweight championship! And so much more! I can’t wait!”

Dog Soldiers [Monteiro & Youngblood] versus American Gold

The opening contest was a first-time match up of two experienced teams. Monteiro and Youngblood, two-thirds of the Dog Soldiers looked like they were being positioned to team during the loss of the World Six-Man Championships. American Gold was looking to rebound here from their loss last month to the Texas Express. The two teams seemed tailor made for each other. Youngblood and Monteiro were perfect-smaller babyfaces. They both could sell and were remisicent of the small babyface teams of the territory days that were abel to garner a lot of sympathy while American Gold was able to be nasty, high-impact heels. They isolated Roger Monteiro and suplexed him all over the ring. They locked in several submission holds and they hit their trademark drape-over-top-rope-so-Chamberlain-can-slingshot-senton. This really got the crowd going. Both teams also understood their positioning in the card and their role. They were tasked with waking the crowd up and getting them revved up for a night of intense pro wrestling action. They played that role perfectly and they didn’t do all the spots in the world. They didn’t do a thousand false finishes -- but they did have Roger Monteiro leap over both members of American Gold to make the tag to Youngblood who came in with chops for everyone. Youngblood hit Chamberlain with a Flying Tomahawk Chop that took him out and then he countered an attempted Tornado DDT into a roll up that got the three count and the Dog Soldiers got the surprise win!

In an exceptional match, Ace Youngblood and Roger Monteiro defeated American Gold in 13:20 when Ace Youngblood pinned Marcus English with a fast roll up.

In terms of in-ring work, Maliek Chamberlain was head and shoulders above everyone else.

Funky Fedora -- looking quite angry -- came walking to the ring with a briefcase. He took the microphone from Taylor Gordy and climbed into the ring. He opened up the briefcase and showed a stack of money to the crowd that was in the briefcase.

Fedora, “I didn’t think there was ever anything on the face of the Earth that was going to push me to do what I’m going to do right now, but Nate DeMarcus you have pushed me as far as you are going to push. I’m putting up ten thousand dollars, ten thousand of my own money, from my own bank account, and it goes to anyone who can put Nate DeMarcus out of pro wrestling and bring me the Mid American Championship. Titan, it could be you. It could be anybody. Dreadnought. James Diaz. Zippy Deverell. The Taggs. His old friends American Gold. It could be Josh Jacobs -- you’re the World Champion. The names, the list, the potential people, it goes on and on. Any human being that can eliminate Nate DeMarcus for me and bring me the Mid American Championship has ten thousand dollars in cold hard cash. I’ll give it to any living human being. It’s right here for you. Come and get it. Somebody come claim this damn money and rid pro wrestling of Nate DeMarcus!”

Funky slammed the briefcase closed and exited the ring.

Yvonne Ericks versus Stella Saint

This was Stella Saint’s last appearance for CWI before heading up to BMCW for development. The technical wrestler worked really well in this babyface match up and she made sure to bump around for Yvonne Ericks and really help Ericks have a solid match. Ericks has been growing in demand -- she’s been working for CWWF a lot (which is also why she wasn’t on the recent Ladies Night event). Saint tried to work on the leg -- but was unsuccessful and Ericks hit a huge Mafia Kick to get the win.

In a decent match, Yvonne Ericks defeated Stella Saint in 7:58 by pinfall with a Mafia Kick.

Wild Red Stallion versus Dan Stone III

In another ‘farewell’ match, Dan Stone III was in the ring to take a beating from Wild Red Stallion. The big Lakota Nation wrestler has been really on fire -- even in a couple of team based losses. He looks like he is being primed for a big singles run. Dan Stone III looked a lot like his older brother and his father in this contest -- but he was overwhelmed by Stallion’s onslaught. Stallion hit a big Running Powerslam before lifting him up again for a powerslam and then tossing him into the air and catching him with the cutter, executing a perfect Lakota Cutter for the win.

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, Wild Red Stallion defeated Dan Stone III in 5:33 by pinfall with a Lakota Cutter.

"Fully Loaded" Hank Gunn versus "Dapper" Danny Draper

In a match up of two former CWA talents, one of whom is on his way back to Canada, we got to see a mixture of the fluid Canadian technical wrestling we’ve all grown to love with the big brawling that the DeColt family popularized in Vancouver. Draper was all over Gunn right from the beginning of the match and Gunn was in sell-mode. Gunn had some offense -- including a Missle Dropkick off the top rope, but ultimately Draper hit his version of a Death Valley Driver, the [i[D-Struction[/i] to get the win.

In a decent match, Dapper Danny Draper defeated Hank Gunn in 8:44 by pinfall with a D-Struction.

The Texas Express came to the ring in their matching jackets patterned off the Texas flag and jeans. They weren’t booked to wrestle tonight, of course, but they still had something they wanted to say.

Christie, “Last month we beat American Gold. We beat them clean in the middle of the ring. No debates. No excuses. We’re finished with them. And now we have our eyes on something else.”

Trenneman, “We want Bred for Battle and we want the World Tag Team Titles. We know they have a busy schedule. We know they have bookings multiple times a month to defend those World Titles and we are patient men -- but we want Bred for Battle. Last time, we met they needed American Gold to pull it off. Next time they won’t be so lucky.”

Christie, “So consider this our official request to the COTT Championship Comitee. We want the World Tag Team Titles. Make it happen.”

Reece & Wells versus The San Diego Girls ©

The Women’s Tag Team Titles were on the line as The San Diego Girls put the belts up against Reece and Wells -- who were coming off of several wins. Reece and Wells have really developed as a team over the past several years and they were looking for a defining win here -- a win that could really get them back to their championship ways, but The San Diego Girls continue to impress with their fluid lucha-inspired team work. They hit their Mission Beach Missile.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, The San Diego Girls defeated Reece & Wells in 12:02 when Coco Malloy pinned Ruby Reece with a Mission Beach Missile. The San Diego Girls make defence number two of the CWI Women's Tag Team titles.

"The Hillbilly Outlaw" Zippy Deverell versus "Indian's Finest" Mr. Grappling ©

This match was months in the making. Zippy has been trying to do whatever it takes to get a chance to win back the Indiana Heavyweight Championship. This match picked right up where their Coal Miner’s Glove match left off. The hatred between these was tangible and the match was physical. Very physical. Deverell was a man possessed. A man who could taste how close he was getting back the thing he coveted and Grappling was a man who was really on a roll in his career. The crowd was into everything these two did. Grappling hit a series of rolling German Suplexes that almost got the victory. Deverell came off the second rope with a Flying Bulldog and then draped his feet on the second rope and referee Bret Graveson didn’t notice it and Zippy Deverell was once again Indiana Heavyweight Champion.

In an exceptional match, Zippy Deverell defeated Mr. Grappling in 15:44 by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage. Zippy Deverell wins the CWI Indiana title.

The three men known as the Latino Kings were ringside. No words were exchanged, but the fear on FREEDOM was evident. They were not happy that the Latino Kings were here. The Kings pointed at FREEDOM and FREEDOM quickly retreated to the backstage area.

The Dynamite Express versus Texan Justice ©

The Dynamite Express made their CWI debut in this match. They were coming into this match with eight sets of tag team titles under their belts and a win in the CWA Tag Team Grand Prix. They were the more experienced duo -- with over thirtteen years of team experience. The crowd was thrilled to see the team in action and Texan Justice, coming off of a win in the March Madness tournament and a win last month to become Tag Team Champions -- there was no doubt the momentum was on the two big cowboys’ side. The Express were in top form in this match, they controlled the pacing of the match and cut the ring in half. They were focused on Hoss Handley -- the smaller of the two men. They focused on Hoss’ knee -- trying to keep him off his feet and from his power. The strategy was effective as they hobbled Hoss. He went to tag in Samson Sharpe -- but Sharpe was chasing Kalder Tagg away from the ring. That set up Cam Jones to hit the Fisherman Suplex and The Dynamite Express were CWI Tag Team Champions!

In a superb match, The Dynamite Express defeated Texan Justice in 14:14 when Cam Jones pinned Hoss Handley with a Fisherman's Suplex following interference from Kalder Tagg. The Dynamite Express win the CWI Tag Team Championships.

Lucy Stone-McFly versus "The Monolith" Tameka Sky ©

Lucy Stone-McFly stood across the ring from the Monolith. Sky was undefeated. She was dominate. She had been unstoppable up until now. Stone-McFly wrestled the match of her life. The match of her career so far. She was ready for Sky and wrestled the bigger woman to the mat several times. Sky look flustered -- she looked like she didn’t know what to do, up until she went for the eyes and took control of the match. She pummeled Lucy Stone-McFly and several times she tried to put her away, but Stone-McFly wouldn’t die. She wouldn’t stay down. Stone-McFly managed to hit the Delorean Driver -- the move her father made famous the world over -- and get the pin and Lucy Stone-McFly was once again Women’s Champion.

In an exceptional match, Lucy Stone-McFly defeated Tameka Sky in 11:58 by pinfall with a Delorean Driver. Lucy Stone-McFly wins the CWI Women's title.

"The Behemoth" Titan versus Nate "the Great" DeMarcus ©

The former TCW star Titan made his CWI debut here against Nate DeMarcus. From the way Titan was working, it was clear that he was trying to get that ten thousand dollars that Funky Fedora had promised at the beginning of the show. He was all over Nate DeMarcus in his first title defense. Titan slammed Nate into the ring and even came off of the second rope for a big splash. Titan is a bit slower than he used to be -- the broken neck having made him work a little slower -- but his size was still something to deal with. He was big enough to really put Nate DeMarcus in jeopardy. Nate took the asswhooping and then made the big comeback. He even lifted the massive Titan high into the air for a Press slam that set up the Snap Tackle and got him his first defense.

In an exceptional match, Nate DeMarcus defeated Titan in 9:37 by pinfall with a Snap Tackle. Nate DeMarcus makes defence number one of the COTT Mid American title.

Just a couple of days before God, America, and Pro Wrestling, Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis was in Edinburgh, Indiana for a great night of local pro wrestling.

Opening Match: In a decent match, Nebo Martell defeated Robin DaLay in 10:02 by submission with an Inferno Special.

"Dapper" Danny Draper just had a heat-getting promo segment. He ran down the crowd and talked himself up. This wasn't to advance a match, it was just designed for him to really get some heat for himself.

Match Two: In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, Luis Torres defeated Flash Savage in 10:14 by pinfall with an Ancient Heel Kick.

Match Three: In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but terrible wrestling, AP Gumble defeated AC King in 9:08 by pinfall with a Hitman Crusher.

Match Four: In a bout that didn't have much heat and terrible wrestling, Tommy Orton and Larry Terkay defeated Lance Austin and Raul Rogers in 3:47 when Tommy Orton pinned Lance Austin with a Deadline Cutter.

Match Five: In a decent match, Lynton Minehead defeated Hank Gunn in 10:11 by pinfall with a Tombstone Piledriver.

Main Event: In a decent match, Brute Kikuchi defeated Pepper Pelton in 12:46 by pinfall with a Kikuchi Crush.

So you are in your 4th year are there any notable stars anywhere that were generated by the game?

Not any notable stars in a top company yet. There are plenty of game generated workers that look like they’re going to be studs. This save has been the story of people who were on the cusp or were Indy darlings in 16 being full blown mega stars. El Mitico Jr, for instance, had a year long reign as TCW World Champion. Jay Chord has become the top wrestler in the business. Matthew Keith exploded into gaijin superstardom with a year long reign as BHOTWG champion.

I imagine in another four or five years (if the save goes on that long!) thet dtory will be different. There is a lot of really good generated talent out there. It’s just a matter of them starting to get the big pushes.

I’m just catching up with everything and I gotta say the backstage write-ups were awesome. The meeting with management, Fedora & DeMarcus’ differences in personalities being showcased, and saying goodbye to talent were all great! I liked the callback to how Marv handled people leaving in the past, making it so he was more appreciative and understanding now atleast to their face. I especially liked the one on one with Hangman giving him the stamp of approval after basically making Hangman into what he was today.

Onto School’s Out…

The opening match was a fun natural opener, it seemed like an American Gold rebound after last month. But I was shocked to see Dog Soldiers actually pull out the win. Ace is up there in age so this could be a spark to go on one last run at gold before he’s forever sent into midcard fodder. I’m rooting for them, I’ve always liked Ace and hope him and Roger do well as a team. I do wonder if this was set up to split American Gold since Chamberlain is doing so well in the matches.

Funky setting up the bounty on Nate was so old-school and I so love it. It immediately made me think Harley Race doing it on Flair in 1983. I do wonder how this will shake out, will someone take out Demarcus, who will try? American Gold & DeMarcus haven’t been in each others company in a while is American Ambition a thing still? Do they still send each other Christmas Cards? Maybe this year for Christmas American Gold will rebreak his arm.

One complaint I have is with the All-Action title, I know it wasn’t on the show but I saw Yvonne get a win over Saint so I thought I’d comment on it since I see Ericks v. Diamond in the future. I feel like the All-Action Title should’ve had it’s inaugural winner be decided on one of the main shows cause doing it on Ladies Night made it feel less important and more of an afterthought. Especially since it could’ve easily been switched with Yvonne’s win over Saint here, and there wasn’t even a mention of the new title on the show.

I wonder if Texas Express can get their shot before Funky Fedora goes for the World lol. COTT just treats CWI like their in the nosebleeds while everyone else is in the VIP section, I’d be so pissed at them. It’s not even like their even giving Marv anything in return besides anger.

You know I love Grappling & Deverell, their feud was my favorite in the whole dynasty. But I feel like their match was just a meh way to get the title back to Deverell. Some more in match details would’ve been nice to show the true hatred and knowledge the two have for and of each other. But Deverell got his precious back now which is always good for dem promos. I wonder what Grappling will be doing now.

Wow, Dynamite Express comes in and wins the Tag Titles!!! Be careful though, those Canadians are very shifty. It’s great too see though, Dynamite Express are one of my favorite teams alongside The Ring Generals. Maybe those two could tangle :3. But the fact the Express are hanging around is great, I’m excited to see what they get up to in CWI.

The LSM Experience is back in business as the Women’s Champion finally dropping the woman who took the title from her in the first place. A lot of matches on the show had me curious where the losers would go next and this was no different as Sky was the dominant champ and without either of those what will she become?

Good main event, DeMarcus gets a convincing win over the over the hill vet who got over the bounty on DeMarcus’ head. Harker coming in at the end confused me only because I was wonder why he’d be in the building since he didn’t compete or anything. I do love his picture and his wild man gimmick, Missing L… I mean Animal Harker will be quite the problem for DeMarcus.
