Francis L. Chikarason IV presents... CHIKARA

"Previously on Chikara..."

THE TAKEOVER

After Chikara founder and co-owner "Lightning" Mike Quackenbush went on an unapproved leave of absence following his bloody civil war against Ophidian, Chikara was in shambles. With no one left around to run the place and no time to wait for Quack to show up, Chikarason Enterprises placed the company in the hands of their longtime CEO Francis "Frank" L. Chikarason IV. Chikarason immediately implemented sweeping changes to ensure that no such conflicts would ever place the future of Chikara in danger again, including placing every single member of Quackenbush's Loyalist faction and Ophidan's Insurrectionist faction on indefinite suspension.

THE FALLOUT

The Chikara Civil War sent ideological ripples throughout the entire Chikara locker room, with many Tecnicos feeling Frank Chikarason's reforms punished the Loyalists for doing the right thing, and many Rudos believing that Chikarason's punishment of the Seperatists shows bias in favor of the Tecnico cause. As a result, most Tecnico entrants into the annual Young Lions Cup withdrew in protest, with Rudos quickly jumping in to fill their spot. Chikara Grand Champion Boomer Hatfield and Hallowicked have since encouraged the Tecnicos and Rudos respectively to enter the annual 12 Large Summit, causing concern both among the locker room and Chikarason Enterprises that a second civil war is not a matter of if, but when.

Tournaments and important annual matches promoted by CHIKARA include:

The Chikara Young Lions Cup Tournament

Format: 16 participants earn their entry into this tournament by winning a sanctioned qualification match or declaring their intent to enter the YLCT and earning 3 consecutive victories in matches of any type. The qualifying participants are then seeded into a single-elimination bracket, with the winner of the bracket receiving the Chikara Young Lions cup and the glory that goes with it.

Special Qualifications: Participants must A) be 24 years and 364 days of age or younger on the planned date of the tournament final OR B) have wrestled less than 50 professional matches, and less than 25 professional matches as a Chikara roster member.

Stats:

- Previous holders: 16

- Longest reign: Hallowicked (2002, 602 days)

The Chikara Tag World Grand Prix

Format: Would-be participant teams declare their interest to the Directorate of Fun. The winner of the bracket receives a future opportunity at the Chikara Campeonatos de Parejas.

The match follows traditional cibernetico rules, meaning each team tags in a "batting order" format, with the next person in the order entering the match no matter who's tagged in. Participants are eliminated by pinfall, submission, countout, disqualification, or stoppage until only one team's members remain. If multiple members of one team remain, they continue in a free-for-all elimination match until only the sole survivor of Torneo Cibernetico remains. The winner of Torneo Cibernetico receives a Golden Opportunity medallion imbued with a powerful ancient magic. Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it.

Stats:

Participants are eliminated when they're thrown or jump over the top rope, with both feet touching the floor simultaneously. When it's down to 2 participants, the match becomes a regular 2-out-of-3 falls match. The winner receives a future Chikara Grand Championship match.

I remember following Chikara up until the “shutdown” in 2012, finding myself enjoying the story driven nature of a small Indy. Recently got back into it thanks to IWTV and Chikara’s Action Arcade, so I’m curious as to what comes next in this diary. Consider me on board!

The Chikara Special: Anniversario: Never Fight a Man With a Perm - Recap

The Crucible def. Crown and Court

Result: At 17:33, El Hijo del Ice Cream tapped out to the Chikara special applied by Princess KimberLee.

After the match, Princess KimberLee broke away from the celebrating members of the Crucible to try to help El Hijo del Ice Cream off the canvas and shake his hand, who refused to make eye contact and walked away instead.

Darby Allin def. Aramis

Result: At 7:01, Darby Allin pinned Aramis after hitting a Coffin Drop off the top rope.

After the match, Darby Allin seemed to not know where he was, and was helped to the back by Chikara medical officials.

Scott Holiday interviews Chikara Grand Champion Boomer Hatfield

Veteran voice of Chikara Scott Holiday asked Boomer how he was feeling mentally heading into The Girl Who Played Cibernetico and a 2-out-of-3 falls match against his bitter rival Hallowicked. Boomer was his usual fiery fastball self, telling Scott that Hallowicked's magic "is not mightier than the Tecnico resolve", and that Hallowicked's dark master Nazmoldun "can't harm those that don't fear him." Before walking off, Boomer promised Scott a show of resistance to the Rot and the Crucible in one fell swoop.

Chikara Campeonatos de Parejas

The Bird and the Bee (Solo Darling and Willow Nightingale w/Sheriff's Deputy Magnum) © def. The Rot (Hallowicked and Frightmare)

Result: Before the match, Officer Magnum received a medal from the Order of Gentledogs for excellence in K9-Human Diplomacy, and a promotion to Sheriff's Deputy to match. At 20:48 Solo Darling pinned Frightmare by hitting him with the crossleg brainbuster she calls the Bio-Electric Shock. Frightmare was left alone after Ice Cream Jr. appeared at the top of the ramp carrying a symbol of Nazmoldun, leading Hallowicked to chase him to the back.

We then saw a live shot of Hallowicked, somewhere else, meditating at an altar to Nazmoldum. We hear the dark being's advice to his thrall:"Patience, all in due time, our plan will come to fruition."

The Infinite Gauntlet

30-person battle royale

Result: The Infinite Gauntlet is a standard over-the-top-rope battle royale, with the number one and two participants entering first then a new participant entering every 2 minutes until every participant has entered. Once the match is down to 2 participants, the Infinite Gauntlet becomes a 2-out-of-3 falls match, with the winner receiving a future Grand Championship title match.

Entrant number 1 was "The Ace" Ace Austin. Entrant number 2 was surprise entrant Hiroshi Tanahashi. The Ace of New Japan and the Ace of Chikara duked it out throughout The Infinite Gauntlet, trading elimination attempts, finishers, and reversals.

The final 4 was Eddie Kingston, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Ace Austin, and Icarus. Icarus was eliminated after taking Kingston's Backfist to the Future while on the apron with Kingston being thrown out by Tanahashi shortly thereafter at 60:15.

In the 2-out-of-3-falls segment, Ace Austin hit the Aces High to take the first fall, with Tanahashi hitting the High Fly Flow to the outside. After Tanahashi missed his third High Fly Flow out of 3 in a row, Ace Austin went to the top and hit the Japanese legend with Aces High for the win and a future Grand Championship opportunity.

After the match and production credits, we saw a silent live shot of a dark, shadowy hallway, with a faint light at the end.

The Pro Wrestling Torch - SIGNING NEWS

pwtorch1002.png

CHIKARA SIGNS JOSHI STANDOUT YUKA SAKAZUKI

Yuka Sakazuki is a verifiable star in her home promotion Tokyo Joshi Princesses, but the rest of the wrestling world hasn't failed to notice her talent and potential. Philldelphia-based indie Chikara has signed Sakazuki to a pay-per-appearance deal and sources inside the company believe that fans of Sakazuki can expect her to start making appearances sooner rather than later.

This signing comes after earlier this month Chikara signed Zachary Wentz - who, as we reported earlier today, debuted as Zombie Ant at anniversario - as well as Ace Austin, Jonathan Gresham, ACH, and Martina. While Chikara isn't flush with cash at the moment, it's believed by sources in the Philly indie scene that Chikara have grand plans for the future and are making strides toward that vision now.

Young Lions Cup Qualifiers and News - Chikara Action Arcade May 16 2020

Callux the Castigator def. Lance Steel by pin in 1:46. Callux the Castigator has won 1 out of 3 consecutive matches to qualify for the Young Lions Cup.

Ace Austin def. Razerhawk by pin in 6:49, successfully defending his Infinite Gauntlet title opportunity. After the match he cut a promo saying that Chikara needs a true ace to take them above and beyond the top, that he's the one to bring them there. What a jerk.

Chikara Grand Champion Boomer Hatfield def. Frightmare by pin in 21:25 in a non-title contest.

After the matches, we saw a shot of the same dark hallway from the end of Anniversario, but this time we can hear something: a small breeze fluttering in from the east.

he Chikara Special: The Girl Who Played Cibernetico - Recap

Scott Holliday interviews Chikara Grand Champion Boomer Hatfield

Boomer was asked if the threat of Nazmoldun's influence on his match was weighing into his thought process, especially after Ice Cream Jr's shenanigans at Anniversario. Boomer repeated that Nazmoldun feeds on fear and terror, but the Tecnicos have banished any fear from their heart in the name of doing the right thing. Scott asked boomer a followup about what he meant by "doing the right thing" but was given the old time-to-prepare excuse.

Young Lions Cup Qualifying match for Danhausen

Danhausen def. Ricky South

Resultshausen: Danhausen won by pin at 16:31hausen. Because he won this qualifying match he qualifies for the Young Lions Cuphausen.

The Infinite Gauntlet Defense 2/3

Ace Austin def. Darby Allin

Results: Ace Austin won via pinfall at 6:52 after hitting Allin with the Fold. He is one successful defense away from finding out the time and place for his Grand Championship match. Allin didn't seem to be quite himself throughout the match, afraid to go up to the top for diving attacks. After the match and his typical over-the-top self-celebration (what a jerk) Austin went to condescendingly shake Allin's hand who hit him with a DDT and the Coffin Drop.

The Crucible (Frey Nassar, KimberLee, Devantes) def. The Colony (Silver Ant, Green Ant, Zombie Ant) w/El Hijo del Ice Cream

Results: Zombie Ant tapped out to a Dragon Sleeper applied by Devantes at 12:45. During the match, KimberLee seemed distracted by El Hijo del Ice Cream's presence at ringside and even rolled out of the ring to have some words with him mid-match, much to the displeasure of her Crucible teammates who dragged her to the back by the wrist at the end of the match.

Chikara Campeonatos de Parejas

The Bird and the Bee (Solo Darling and Willow Nightingale) © def. The Lost (ACH and Jonathan Gresham)

Results: At 21:25, Solo Darling pinned Jonathan Gresham after hitting him with the Bio-Electric Shock.

After the match, Jonathan Gresham cut a promo saying that not everyone fell to one side of the Chikara Civil War, that he and his partner ACH represent everyone who felt lost because they were forced to take a side, who didn't align with the pure evil of the rudos or the blind optimism of the tecnicos. He said that everyone who's ever been cheated by the Loyalists or sold out by the Insurrectionists has a home with their fellow Lost siblings.

Backstage we saw Boomer Hatfield talking to someone who was just off-camera due to the angle, telling them that The Rot are nothing to worry about and the Tecnicos have a contingency plan, just in case.

Best 2 Out of 3 Falls

The Chikara Grand Championship

Boomer Hatfield © vs. Hallowicked w/Frightmare

Results: Early on in the match, Frightmare was ejected for lowering the top rope as Boomer went for the 12-to-6 springboard dropkick, allowing Hallowicked to counter with the Go 2 Sleepy Hollow, putting Hallowicked up 1-0. Boomer refused to give up and fought back though, finally hitting the 12-to-6 and a super Frankensteiner to tie it up 1-1. Hallowicked hit Boomer with the Graveyard Smash (a single leg-hook version of the Rydeen bomb) then held on and rolled over to his feet to hit the Never Wake Up (a single leg-hook DDT) for an incredibly close two count. Boomer came back with a fire, hitting dropkicks into hurricanranas into a baseball side to the outside. Boomer eventually dropped Hallowicked in the middle of the ring with a super Frankensteiner, going back to the ropes to attempt a 12-to-6. It almost ended in disaster though, as Hallowicked kicked Boomer's legs out from under him as he went to jump, catching him on his shoulders for the Go 2 Sleepy Hollow. Referee Bryce Remsburg almost counted the 3 before realizing that Boomer's hand that was on the rope for the springboard had found its way to the bottom rope. While Hallowicked was arguing with Bryce about the rope break, Boomer managed to recover enough to step to the apron and hit Hallowicked with the 12-to-6 and a 450 splash off the top to win the match 2-1 and retain the Chikara Grand Championship at 14:15.

Torneo Cibernetico

Team Hatfield (Frightmare, Cornelus Crummels, Sonny Defarge, Dasher Hatfield) vs. Team McCoy (Danjerhawk, Nytehawk, Razerhawk, Molly McCoy)

Results: At 24:36 the sole survivor of Torneo Cibernetico, Frightmare pinned Dasher Hatfield after hitting him with a moonsault double knee aka the Kneecolepsy from the top rope. After the match, Frightmare immediately began to put the two halves of the Golden Opportunity medallion together, attempting to use its magic. Although what his wish was isn't readily apparent, Hallowicked came out from the back with the symbol of Nazmoldun cut into his singlet.

As the show went off the air, we cut to a new shot of the hallway, this time with a room in the back left corner of the hallway lit up by a bright golden light, washing out the screen with color and brightness. The breeze continues to blow in from east to west.

I'm intrigued by this, wish I knew more about the company, but they always seem to have some unique/crazy stories/it is unique and fun! I hope you will develop your characters and give some backstory on them as I personally know NOTHING about almost all the guys outside of Quack.

I'm working on a brief (as brief as you can be recapping 20+ seasons of interwoven storylines) recap of the history of Chikara. Keep an eye on the first posts for that to come out.

Journal Status Update

Due to a number of reasons, I've been unable to update this journal as much as I had originally hoped. However, I'd like to provide a brief update due to recent real world events.

If you aren't already aware, many members of the wrestling business, both wrestlers and talent, have been sharing stories of being bullied, harassed, and exploited with the hashtag #SpeakOut. Among the people who have been accused of particularly grievous misdeeds include Chikara founder and creative lead Mike Quackenbush and several other Chikara long-time mainstays. As a result, I cannot in good conscience continue to promote Quackenbush or his alleged actions or the culture he allegedly cultivated backstage at Chikara by continuing the storylines I had planned which would have heavily featured both him and other alleged abusers.

In the name of being consistent with what I believe, this journal will be coming to an end, and in its place will be a new journal based on a style of game I've been playing since TEW Freeware. If you enjoy what I was working on here, please keep an eye out for that journal as well as a final post wrapping up the story I had started, which will both come in the next few days.
