New York (shortened to NY), often called New York City (shortened to NYC), is the largest city in the United States, located in the state of New York. New York’s population is similar to London in the United Kingdom with over 8 million people currently living in it, and over 22 million people live in the bigger New York metropolitan area. It is in the south end of the state of New York, which is in the northeastern United States. It is the financial capital of the US since it is home to the nation's stock market, Wall Street, and the One World Trade Center. A leading global city; New York exerts culture, media and capital internationally, as well as attracting great numbers of international travelers. It is also the home of the United Nations Headquarters.

------------

<p>It was snowing again. Of course it was, it always snowed in January. He hated the snow and it made his joints hurt. Years of taking bumps in the middle of a ring will do that to you and the long walk here hadn't helped. He would have got a taxi, but he didn't want to be recognised coming here. He yearned to be inside with the radiators on and a bourbon in his hand, but there would be time for that later. He had a meeting to attend.

He took a deep drag of his cigarette and stood outside the entrance for a while lost in his thoughts of years past, of friendships made and friends lost, of titles won and last days. They were some of his best and worst memories. He flicked the cigarette to the curb, composed himself and pushed open the door.

The stairs to the office was covered in old photographs. As he climbed they transitioned through the 80's, the 90s and he eventually stopped at the one of The Stomper winning the Empire championship in 2001. He wondered how Derek was spending his retirement. 'Better than me I bet' he thought to himself. Last he'd heard was that he'd taken up golfing and he couldn't think of anything worse. Continuing up, he glanced at some of the newer pictures but recognised fewer people as got to the top.

He pushed open the door and noticed that little had changed. The place still stunk of sweat and cigarettes even though nobody had been allowed to light up in here in almost 20 years. It had soaked in to the pores of the building and was never coming out. In the corner of the room sat the same old worn out sofa with hole in the arms and springs that will catch you if you are unaware. He could remember spending many a night passed out on that sofa and next to it covered in dust was the TV with a built in VCR where they'd watch back shows and heckle each other. It was memories like that, that made him feel like a dinosaur.

'Do you need something' came a nasally voice from the side of him. The receptionist, he guessed must have been an staff members daughter, as she looked barely out of school. He could barely see her over the old CRT monitor on the desk, and upon moving closer saw she sat there barely looking at him frantically tapping away at her mobile phone, and he reckoned there would be a few choice words aimed at the work phone if it even considered ringing and making her actually do her job.

'Yeah, tell Larry i'm back'

<blockquote>'Mr Vessey. A Tim Steinbrenner is here to see you' Her voice was grating on him already.

'Thanks Tina, send him in' came the reply.

'You can go in now'

'Thanks... Tina' he sarcastically replied. 'I got that'

Tim pushed open the door and entered Larry Vessey's office. It really hadn't changed all that much from The Stompers day. Much like the stairway, the office was covered with photos of NYCW's 'stars' in their prime, as well as some main event posters that the guys used to run out and plaster all over the walls near to whatever venue they were at that month. In the middle was Larry's desk with a single wooden chair in front of it. It was the same one that had been there the last time he had been here, 12 years ago.

'Hi Tim' Larry began 'Thanks for coming in, How's Maria?'

'She's gone.. living with her sister'

'Shit Tim, I'm sorry. I hadn't heard' He knew that Larry had heard. This was just some kind of game. Jockeying for position for an eventual play.

'Its New Years Day Larry.. Why have you called me in'

'Steve stepped down from the book last week. He said that 5 years was enough, and he couldn't do it anymore. Seriously.. with Christmas and New Year just passed and Rush Hour coming up in a couple of weeks, he couldn't have picked a worse time'

'Whats the problem' Tim replied. 'Grabs his notes for Rush Hour and prep the team'

'He didn't leave any notes. He worked this..' Larry sighed and airquoted 'mental mind map. Fat use that is now'

'Cant Crockett do it?' Tim asked.

'Ah so you have been keeping an eye on us' Larry smiled

'Shit!' Tim thought to himself. He had shown his hand. Crockett Tubbs had joined after he'd left all those years ago. A natural technician, Tim thought he'd been great for the role, and he'd been hoping to push the fact that Larry needed him over his own staff as a way to push for more.

'I did some research after you called me' Tim lied. 'It's all available if you search on Yahoo'

There was a pause in conversation that felt like eons.

'Anyway..' Larry broke the silence. 'Crockett doesn't want it. He wants to focus on his in-ring career'

'And Steve isn't giving up whats to come'

'No' Larry said. 'He's ran through the current stories with me, but said its up to the new guy where it goes from here'

'Whats been happening' Tim asked.

'You want the job then' Larry replied.

'Whats the pay'

'Pretty much bugger all. I can pretty much scrap together what you got last time you were here'

NYCW didn't pay its workers very well. It couldn't afford to. Audience numbers were low and other companies were beginning to encroach on their territory. He'd be looking at around $500 a month, but it was $500 more than he currently got. Since leaving NYCW in 2008, Tim had worked a number of years in the independent scene before retiring from in-ring action 5 years ago. Since then he would get the occasional call-up to commentate at a show, but those offers were becoming fewer and further between. Whilst money wasn't abundant these days, he could live with this offer, for now.

'Im interested' Tim said after his moment of contemplation 'What do we know?'

Larry smiled. Tim thought it didn't look right on his face when compared to how worn out the rest of him looked.

'Okay, first up is Freedom Eagle against the DiMeo family. Eagle beat Sal DeMio at Buffalo Bash last month and Sal didn't take it too well. We want Freedom Eagle to have to face the wrath of Sal's goons in a classic underdog tale'

'How did the fans take it so far'

'It did... alright. Larrys tone said one thing but his face said otherwise. 'After that we have Denny King and Masked Stranger for the Tri-State Regional. Fred's had the strap for a couple of months and defended it a few times. Denny King has been on a streak lately and they have been trading insults. I'm certain the fans want them to finally go off'

'Fans liking it then'

'Forums are buzzing. We have Brutus Milano and Tennessee William. Brutus gained the Empire strap from William's in November and held a victory party that Williams trashed. Fans are demanding a rematch'

'Fans would. Doesn't mean I'll give them it' Tim replied

'Finally, we have the newest one. At the end of Buffalo Bash, Andrew Harper ambushed Riley McManus after Riley's match and was threatening to beat down Fern Hathaway, Riley defended her, and ended up getting put through a table for his troubles'

'And you're given me free reign to ditch or carry these on as I see fit' Tim already had a few ideas up his sleeves.

Once again came the silence. For a brief moment all that could be heard was Tina's tap-tap tapping on her phone.

'I have some conditions. Storywise, its pretty much yours. Do what you think best, but when it comes to NYCW, here are my demands

1) No debt. Sure out funds are limited but keep our heads above the water

2) We gotta grow. TotalExtremeWrestling.com are ranking us at Tiny. I want us to grow to small'

'You online a lot these days' Tim laughed

'3) Keep us as popular or more in the United States. Growing our fanbase outside the US is fine, but here is where we sell our tickets.

As for hiring, I have a few concerns there as well. Our staff numbers are low. Anyone you hire needs to be resilient. Cant have them off all the time with a back ache. I also don't want them gassing out in the ring after a couple of minutes alright. Finally, they need to be somewhat gifted in the ring. We have to entertain after all'

'Is that all' Tim chuckled.

'You're laughing now.. You've only got 11 days to get your first show together. No pressure'

Excerpt from NYWrestlingNews.com

<blockquote>NYCW Wrestler Vito Pirelli went on record about his thoughts about co-worker Chuck Casey.

'You know. I just don't understand some people. I've worked my balls off since coming into New York City Wrestling. I've taken my lumps and formed a solid partnership with Luca (Sacramoni) and held the NYCW Tag Championship for months.

And then all of a sudden, these hobbyists like the Casey brothers arrive on the scene and suddenly Chuck wants to be the big cheese. It makes me sick'

Vito Pirelli arrived at NYCW in late 2017 as part of the DiMeo Family and is rumored to be part of an ongoing storyline featuring Freedom Eagle. Chuck and Tully Casey joined NYCW in 2019 with Tully still working in the family's butchers most days.

'If you want to survive in this business you need to push yourself, drive yourself to be the best you can be, not carry around your older brother because you're too scared to go it alone.

People like this should just give up, go crying home to their mothers and leave the ring for us; people who are strong, people who can shine and get noticed

I hope that Chuck gets the hint and throws in the towel ASAP'

We contacted NYCW about this story but no comment at time of printing.

Excerpt from NYWrestlingNews.com

<blockquote>Former SWF Announcer Peter Michaels dies at 59

Former SWF and NOTBPW Announcer Peter Michaels has passed away today aged 59. Michaels was considered to be one of the greatest wrestling announcers of all time and was hugely respected for the way that he could both help to tell a story in the ring and relay information to the viewer. He was most famous for his twenty years as the voice of the SWF. He became head booker of the company in 2007 following the departure of Sam Keith and guided them towards a stronger storytelling approach; the result was some of the best TV they have ever produced.

Unfortunately, and unfairly, Michaels was made the scapegoat for the SWF's troubles in 2014-2015 and lost his job as a direct result of having been unable to stop USPW overcoming them in the ratings. It was a sad end to a glorious SWF career.

In 2016 NOTBPW made him an offer he couldn't refuse and the money, as well as genuinely liking the vison for the company Victoria Stone-McFly outlined to him, helped him return to the industry that he loves until their closure at the end of 2017 .

Michaels had been a regular at conventions having retired from commentating and had last been seen a week before his passing.

Cause of death has not be announced.

Love NYCW, I was hoping somebody would do a diary with them! My Rush Hour Predictions:

Freedom Eagle Vs Sal DiMeo

Thinking this story might have a while to run, so Sal will get the boys involved to get the tainted win

Brutus Milano Vs The New York Doll

Champ can'tbe losing to a midcard schlupp on the first show of the year

Crockett Tubbs Vs Super Massive Destroyer

SMD definitely has upside, but I think he's too green to be going over Crockett this early

The Casey Brothers Vs The LA Stars

The Stars are one of my favourite new teams and I think they'll get the W here

Machine Gun Marino Vs Ray Snow

Snow is a steady hand but he needs a couple of wins if his eventual job to a midcard face is going to mean anything. I like Machine Gun, but I don't think he's done paying his dues at the foot of the card just yet

Freedom Eagle Vs Sal DiMeo

Perhaps the eagle will need help from a certain baseball mask wearing friend.

for the NYCW Empire Championship

Brutus Milano Vs The New York Doll

No change for the new champ.

Crockett Tubbs Vs Super Massive Destroyer

Veteran to win, even if I don't think he's going anywhere big.

The Casey Brothers Vs The LA Stars

I could write a dissertation on the LA Stars gimmick

Machine Gun Marino Vs Ray Snow

One Veteran will win on this card and it's not Ray.

Freedom Eagle Vs Sal DiMeo

Via DQ after interference

Brutus Milano Vs The New York Doll

for the NYCW Empire Championship

The Doll's an old hand and a good one but hot-shotting the title makes no sense

Crockett Tubbs Vs Super Massive Destroyer

One of these stars can wrestle. One can't

The Casey Brothers Vs The LA Stars

The stars might be kind of a weird fit for NYCW, but they're undeniably more talented than the Caseys so until otherwise I'd push them

Machine Gun Marino Vs Ray Snow

I could see this one going the other way but I've always liked Ray more

Plus the return of a NYCW veteran

NYCW Wrestling Presents:

Rush HourSaturday Week 2 January 2020

Philadelphia, PA

Pre-Show Rating: 32

The air was buzzing in the Theatre of the Living Arts was the almost 300 attendees discussing their favourite wrestlers and just who they thought was the returning veteran. Tim stood near the backstage curtain dressed in his old biker garb and thought back to the last time he did this. The fans didn't know it was his last show at the time, and probably wouldn't have cared even if they had.

Generic music was playing to keep them occupied after the pre-show had finished and an on-screen counter was working its way slowly down to zero. 30 seconds and counting.

'Here's your microphone Mr Steinbrenner' said the stage hand next to him.

'Tim, please. I cant stand Mr Steinbrenner'

The stage hand scurried off. 15 seconds and counting.

'Ladies and Gentleman, your winners THE OLD SCHOOL PRINCIPALS'

5 seconds and counting. Tim shook the voices of shows past from his head. He pulled loose his greying ponytail and smoothed down his now trademark handlebar mustache. He could hear the crowd outside counting down. It was time.

His old theme tune began playing and he pulled open the curtain to a mix and surprise and confusion. The old school fans cheered for the nostalgia fix, and newer fans were left confused on who was coming down ringside. Tim climbed the steps and slid between the ropes.

He took a slow lap of the ring soaking in all the faces. It was good to be back.

'Good evening Brothers, its good to be back' he began. 'This return has been a long time coming, but a bets and bet and Vesseys given me free reign here at NYCW' Vessey was a right penny pincher so the idea that he'd lost at cards to bring Tim back put a smile on his face.

'So, have we got a show for you tonight. First up we have The DiMeo familys own Machine Gun Marino squaring off against 'Ice Cold' Ray Snow. If Snows anything like the weather outside right now, he's going to lay it on thick'

Some chuckles, some groans. He'd expected as much with that joke

'After that we have tag team action with The Casey Brothers facing up against The LA Stars'

Boos for the LA stars were heard

'Then after a small intermission where we.. and I definitely will.. get ourselves a host of drinks have Crockett Tubbs meet Super Massive Destroyer.

After that, our very own New York Doll takes on Brutus Milano

And then... OUR MAIN EVENT OF THE EVENING'

He paused for effect...

'Fresh from his win at Buffalo Bash, Freedom Eagle has accepted a rematch against Sal DiMeo. Will lightning strike twice?

Anything Can Happen in a New York Minute!'

The theme music started up again, and Tim soaked in a few moments more before starting backstage.

Rating: 29

Singles Match:

Machine Gun Marino Vs Ray Snow

In a bout that didn't have much heat and terrible wrestling, Machine Gun Marino defeated Ray Snow in 14:39 by pinfall with a Flying Knee Strike

Rating: 19

Singles Match:

The Casey Brothers Vs The LA Stars

In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but terrible wrestling, The Casey Brothers defeated The LA Stars in 16:28 when Chuck Casey pinned LA Star #2 with a Belly To Back Suplex.

Rating: 17

As the bell sounded, Chuck and Tully Casey hooped and hollered in the ring. The soundman tried his best to loop their generic theme music to the best of his abilities, but it had been a cheap purchase and didn't flow into itself well.

From the backstage curtain, Tim was sure he could hear Chuck shouting for someone to shove something up somewhere. He was pretty sure he knew who backstage he was talking about. He motioned for them to get backstage right now as he could see the crowd getting a little fed up

Rating: 13

Singles Match:

In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but terrible wrestling, Crockett Tubbs defeated Super Massive Destroyer in 10:04 by pinfall.

Rating: 23

NYCW Empire Championship Match:

Brutus Milano Vs The New York Doll

The fact had been going on for a while now, and fairly back and forth between the two. New York Doll was getting the upper hand and had reversed Brutus, whipping him towards the ropes. Brutus swung at New York Doll but missed and took at the referee.

Suddenly a cheer came up from the fans.

'Whoa.. Ernie is that who I think it is' screeched Ron South.

'That's Tennessee Williams.. Whats.. Whats he doing out here' answered Rock Downpour, NYCW's Colour Commentator.

'Is he coming for carry on the payback from last month. If so, Brutus is now in a handicap match' replied Ernie Turner

Williams climbed into the ring, and the three wrestlers moved around in a wary circle. Williams nodded at New York Doll and they closed in on Brutus.

Suddenly, Williams turned and grabbed New York Doll by the hair and rammed his face into the ring post before dropping his finisher on him.

Brutus stood on in shock as Williams sprung up, gave him a thumbs up and climbed out of the ring

'Wait, are they friends now' Rock asked

'I have no idea' Ron replied. 'But it looks like Brutus is going to capitalise on this'

The referee was starting to come to and New York Doll had managed to pull himself up to his knees. Brutus grabbed him for an Italian Backbreaker.

'Is he gonna' Rock eagerly asked

'There it is' Ernie answered. 'New York Doll has tapped out'

- - -

In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Brutus Milano defeated The New York Doll in 6:13 by submission with an Italian Backbreaker.

Brutus Milano makes defence number two of the NYCW Empire title.

Rating: 29

Andrew Harper heads to the ring, crowd booing him all the way. He reaches overs and takes a microphone.

'Oh shut up.'

He waited, but the boo's continued.

'I've been here for a while, almost 8 years now, but somewhere along the way, I lost focus. I took my eyes off the prize and got lazy, complacent even.

People began forgetting about what I can do, so I had to show them.

Riley McManus is just step 1. Hand picked by Flash and..' he airquotes 'one of NYCW's leading lights, it makes me sick.

As I showed you all last month, I demand to be taken seriously or I'm going to break you'

With that Andrew Harper dropped the microphone and headed backstage

Rating: 33

Singles Match:

Freedom Eagle Vs Sal DiMeo

In a decent match, Sal DiMeo defeated Freedom Eagle in 14:43 by stoppage when Freedom Eagle was injured and could not continue.

Rating: 32

Freedom Eagle wasn't moving and the crowd went deathly silent

'Oh god, is he alright' Ron asked nervously

'The refs checking on him right now. We can only hope he's alright' Ernie replied.

A few moments passed and the referee called for the EMT's. He waited and no-one appeared.

Suddenly Vito Pirelli and Luca Sacramoni appeared at the entrance, and ran down to the ring. Clambering inside, they pushed the ref aside and started laying into the body of Freedom Eagle.

'Oh god, what the hell are they doing' Rock exclaimed.

Vito and Luca grabbed an arm each of Freedom Eagle, lifted him to his feet and dragged him over to the ring post. They wrapped the ropes around his arms and legs and left him strung up for all to see.

Finally the EMT's entered the building, and Freedom Eagle was lowered down onto a gurney and taken out of the building.

Rating: 32

Final Show Rating: 23

New York City Wrestling held Rush Hour last night and drew 288 fans. The feedback has been mixed, although most tend to agree that for a small company, they're doing okay.

Brutus Milano Vs Tennessee Williams

for the NYCW Empire Championship

I could see this going the other way but I think it's still a bit too early to be moving the title

Denny King Vs Riley McManus

After Harper interferes

Andrew Harper Vs Geoff Bourne

After distraction by Riley

Crockett Tubbs Vs The New York Doll

Coin-flip

Devastating Don Vs Hawkeye Calhoun

Why is Don even still here? He sucks, job him and fire him

The Italian Americans Vs The LA Stars

The Italian Americans are part of a top heel group and a major feud
