You could have removed the referee being tired note by shortening a few of your matches, as it goes on match length as well as total number of matches. I really like this new note, as well as the worker overuse penalty note. It’s SO much better than getting stung with it at the end of the show!

Just on default angles, should probably also point out that many of the default angles that come with TEW2020 are still set-up wrong. Beat downs or any sort of fighting angles should be rated on fighting and selling not pure overness anymore. Overness now implies they’re doing not much except standing around basking in their own popularity, so it should be seriously reduced as a basis for angles this time around.

Good show though, looking forward to seeing how it plays out!

Funny enough, I've never used an angle that has used overness. Never thought it made sense as the wrestler's popularity already is being used.

Yeah, in hindsight it's a stupid way to rate most things, although in the default angles it's pretty much 90% of what things are rated by that's not Entertainment.

I much prefer the new categories and the categorisation in the handbook for what they mean. We just need somebody now to go through the default angles and fix them all...

A 44 might seem like a bad score, but in TEW grades are not created on a curve and we are a promotion start come into tonight with a popularity of 10 and wrestlers which had at most 35 pop in the region. That's not to say there weren't some disappointments. Gareth Wayne and Rayne Man don't click as opponents, leading to worse opener than I was expecting. In addition, Black Diamond's ribs were injured during the match. She can work through the injury, but since it's only for six days, I think it might be safer to let her rest for night two. </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> On the bright side, Dreadnaught and Original Sinner have excellent chemistry as a team and Art Reed is still the man. I'm not sure why this is the case (maybe Adam thought it looked better), but I'm sure glad it wasn't a permanent change. It takes enough time to write up all of the shows as it is. 44 is a REALLY good show when you consider you only need to do about a 20 to gain in size! Nice start.

Second, I love that you now have the ability to stop the sim and go back to the Booking Screen mid-show. I'm not sure why exactly I would want to use it at the moment, but I'm glad it's there just in case I make a mistake (or in case of a major injury causing a potential issue later in the show).

Yeah, this is by-far MY favourite new feature and one I haven't even really played around with too much yet. But as an example of a time I missed an opportunity, I discovered two random workers had tag chemistry and the following angle was a beat-down. If I were thinking on my feet (which I wasn't at the time), I would've "booked on the fly" once I realised about the chemistry note and added the random partner to the post-match angle to start to build the story of them forming as a team.

Another thing that would be fun would be to let the game decide a winner of a match and then alter the post-match angle accordingly.

Those are the sort of actions which are possible now, I just need to get my head around the idea that the show is "fluid" and it will really start to open up how I play the game!

Wrapping up the 1st Show

The first show is in the books. Before jumping into the next show, I'd thought I would take a quick look at a couple of data points that happened during the show: the match and gimmick ratings.

<img src="
width="912p"/>

The first thing that stands out to me is how good Art Reed is. I drastically overestimated just how much being set as an occasional wrestler would hamper his ability to go in the ring. If I had to do it again, I might have restructured the tournament with Art Reed winning it all. Always love to give an older wrestler one last moment in the sun, especially one that can still go in the ring.

As for the rest of the roster, the match ratings went more or less as expected with main eventers like Acid, Conner, and Suzanne getting great grades while rookies like Dreadnaught and Black Diamond showed just how inexperienced they are. The biggest surprise has to be The Masked Mauler VII putting together a match rating in the mid-30s. Looks like he's ready to mix it up on the upper ends of the card.

I've also posted the gimmick ratings and, for the most part, letting the wrestler's use their default gimmicks worked out well. Most of them were able to start out with a gimmick rating of Very Good or Great and only three people debuted a "poor" gimmick. Shame that Brazzle is one of the three, but it didn't seem to hurt her match rating that much.

Speaking of gimmicks, it looks like Blue Dragon and Bob Casey didn't have them. Weird, I would have thought all wrestlers would have a default gimmick. What's nice is that 2020 didn't set their gimmicks to "nothing", forcing me to suffer through months of them getting pinged for not having a gimmick. In any case, it looks like this is a perfect time to see what is up with how gimmicks are handled in 2020.

<img src="
width="700p"/>

This is my first time looking at this screen and it looks both really simple and complex at the same time. Seems easy enough to write in a name of the gimmick and it's type, but that XY axis to set the how safe and generic the gimmick seems daunting. For people that have no idea what gimmicks they want to give to a wrestlers, the good news is that the "Get Some Inspiration" shows you a list of premade gimmicks that the wrestler is able to use without penalty. Unfortunately they don't move the XY axis, but thems the breaks.

<img src="
width="700p"/>

Oh wow, Bob Casey really isn't suited to have a gimmick. Kind of surprised he can't play legitimate, but it can't be helped. Out of these gimmicks, I like Blue Collar for the 44 year old grappler and Fan Favorite for Blue Dragon. In both cases, I kept the generic/safe axis in the center (which might be a mistake).

I also noticed that Paul Steadyfast has morale issues, so let's take a look about what's that about by going to the roster page, clicking on Paul's name, and on his current morale which is listed as "Is irritated" (you can also click on the wrestler's name on the very top of the screen; the one next to the Search field).

<img src="
width="912p" />

By looking at this page it seems he's mad at having a poor gimmick. I could give him time off or a bonus, but in this case I think I'll just ride it out. Truth be told I signed him to a 3 show deal and this seems like a good chance to see if his morale will reset if I let the contract run out and then try to re-sign him again (assuming I even can). This page also has a lot of interesting options. In addition to showing morale details, you can change the character's ring name, picture, bio, move set, and role within the company. It's not a big deal for me right now, but if I had a worker with more than one contract, I'd be able to see where we stood on their priority list by looking in the upper right corner.

Finally let's take a look at your predictions from the first show:

• Martel123: 7/8

• Zergon: 6/8

• Tryker2710: 6/8

• Leion: 5/8

Everyone seemed to have a good idea of what I was planning with a clean sweep for the both women's matches, Acid/Reed, and Coleman/Raphael. However, it looks like everyone whiffed on the tag match. I'm not surprised since Bob Casey's best days are past him (and they weren't that good either), but he's also pretty over while Sinner and Dreadnaught are complete unknowns. I tend to lean on the conservative side when booking in the very beginning, though now that I think about it, that tenancy has come in large part to the large rift in pay that we've seen in prior versions. Something for me to think about in the future.

GLW Great Lakes Title Semi-Finals

Acid vs. Rayne Man

Grouping these two matches together here since outcome of the first will affect the second. I could see anyone from these four being your first champ and could see any of them getting into finals as well. That said, I´m picking Acid as my current favorite to win this one, mainly because he´s the oldest and thus has less time at top than other three so figuring he should be first before his skills starts to fall off. Also, what you said about perhaps giving title run to Reed if you knew how good he still is could easily go to Acid as well. And since I pick Acid to advance, I need face to win the other match.

Tag Team Match

Devil's Daughter & Elle May Watson vs. Sabrina Wells & Suzanne Brazzle

This is all about Daughter vs. Brazzle and I since you already said they would face 1 vs. 1 next show, I would expect the one who loses there winning here and I´m currently assuming Brazzle would be the one winning the 1 vs. 1 so Devil wins here.

Singles Match

Art Reed vs. Gareth Wayne

His good performance in the first show likely gives him a win here.

8-Man Tag Match

Bob Casey, Nathan Coleman, Pepper Pelton, & Too Hot vs. Dreadnaught, Original Sinner, Paul Steadyfast & The Masked Mauler VII

Bit of a coin flip but since I now know for sure Paul is only on three shows deal, I go with faces here. Now, this might be bad way to think this one since Coleman is the main guy on face side and he could very well be on three shot deal as well and if he is, then heel side looks slightly stronger with Mauler performing as well as he did in first show. That said, there´s no point to second guess on contract lengths so I´m working this one the assumption that everyone else is on longer term deals.

Triple Threat Showcase

Jana Marie Bowen vs. Joy Ryder vs. Olivia Diamond

Bit of a coin flip here (and I´m tool lazy to check their stats in-game right now :o) so I´m going with Bowen purely because her name rings more bells than the other two.

Singles Match

Blue Dragon vs. James Diaz

This is another "going with more familiar name because I´m too lazy to actually check stats in game" pick.

Foolish Commentary:
We might have technically had a worse show than night one, but I'm not going to complain. Threepwood/Raphael is now the best match in our young history and both Rayne/Acid and Reed/Wayne were fantastic. We didn't have an angle the level of Devil's Daughter and Brazzle, but I'm pretty happy with how the angles played out. None of them were lower than the mid-30s, including one which included Black Diamond who's perception is currently "Unimportant".

From the match ratings, it looks like Conner Threepwood was our MVP as Art Reed had an off day, "only" bring in a score of 45. Really happy to see both Rayne Man and Gareth Wayne bounce back from their match on night one as well as seeing Jana Marie Bowen and Olivia Diamond jumping up to the 30s. Kind of disappointed in Nathan Coleman failing to crack the 30s. Looks like his time as anything more than a nostalgia act might be over. Also not quite happy with Bob Casey only getting a 20 for the second straight match.

You might have noticed that this show only had 7 matches. The original idea was to have Jana face Joy in a singles match while Olivia faced off against Black Diamond, but while Black Diamond can work through her injury, I feel it's safer just let her rest. Especially after realizing that I could have JMB attack Olivia to set up a match between the two at Crowning a Champion. A lot of the booking decisions I made were to build towards that event, including the results of the title tournament. I agree with Zergon's statement about Acid, Conner, Rayne, and Raphael all being worthy of being the first champion. The reason I gave the nod to Rayne Man and Raphael has all to do with Acid and Conner having history. Obviously this is a game, and TEW only cares about 1s and 0s, but part of the fun of TEW for me is booking storylines like it's "real". And I'd say that Conner/Acid don't need the title to feud with each other. By having the finals not include them I get two "big feel" matches instead of one.

Speaking of Zergon, let's see the predictions:

Leion: 5/7

tryker2710: 4/7

Zergon: 4/7

Looks like me talking about Acid and Conner in my prior posts, might have masked my choice to have them lose in the semi-finals.

The Road to Crowning a Champion

We are getting closer to the end, but still have a few things to do before Crowning a Champion, including creating the GLW Great Lakes title in-game.

Creating a title is a pretty straight forward process. You just need to go to the "Titles" page and click on "Create Title". The creation page is also simple enough. You can name a title, add a picture, and define the title via its type (i.e. singles, tag team, trios) as well as requirement (match type, weight, gender, etc.). There are a couple of drop downs that are more meant for the AI, like event, tour, and TV frequency. If you don't ever plan on leaving the promotion you are running, then these dropdowns can be ignored. But I know some people like to set them as a reminder for themselves, so it really is your call.

Finally, there is also a small addition to 2020 called "Title is considered an achievement". This feature is fluff and when ticked will changed the way the title is reference in the in-game news posts. Neat for stuff for tournament titles like the King of the Ring.

Another change in TEW 2020 is that title prestige has been standardized across the world. Instead of all main event/primary titles starting with around 70 prestige, instead a new title will start with a prestige based on both the title's level and promotion's popularity. For example, the new GLW Great Lakes title starts out with 30 prestige.

With the title created, I can pre-book our Raphael/Rayne title match, bringing us to five booked matches: Reed/Diaz, Double D/Brazzle, JMB/Diamond, and Black Diamond & Ellie May Walton vs. Joy Ryder & Sabrina Wells (the fallout from our Black Diamond/Sabrina Wells confrontation).

Speaking of confrontations, I need to do something with Acid and Conner Threepwood. I could easily book a singles match between the two, potentially making it a number one contender's match, but I want to switch up things a bit (I already have three other singles matches on the card). I also want to do something special for this event, seeing as it's the last show of this mini-diary (as well as being an important show for GLW). Let's break one of my initial rules and sign PSW's Acid II and NYCW's Crocket Tubbs to one-shot deals, booking Acid & Acid II vs. The Fighting Irish for Crowning A Champion.

This leaves us with six matches and ten men on our roster without a match and no plan for any of them. When I'm out of ideas, I usually go fishing for chemistry with random singles and tag team matches, but I'm going to run a battle royale instead. Why? Because I haven't done one yet in TEW 2020 and want to see if there are any changes. In addition, like real life, battle royales are a great way to make sure everyone gets on the card, keeping morale from getting too low. This isn't the biggest need for smaller rosters, but even my roster can easily handle this match with six other matches on the card so it can still be helpful.

Before the show starts, I also need to decide on what to do with all of the wrestlers that I originally signed to three-match contracts. Do I want to re-sign them before Crowning a Champion, after the event, or let them going back to the wrestler pool? For the sake of the predictions, I'll be keeping this secret until after the event, but wanted to mention it now since this is when I needed to make my choices.

GLW Great Lakes Finals

Raphael vs. Rayne Man

I could see either one getting the title here but to me, the deciding factor is how many good face/heel contenders I see on your roster. Acid and Connor are good options as challengers (and potential next champs depending who wins the belt here) but it´s Art Reed that makes me pick Raphael as he adds another great face challenger to the mix. Now, Steadyfast, Wayne and Coleman are all ok challengers as well (going to skip the obvious question about if these guys are staying or not for now) but I don´t see any of them getting the belt while I could see Reed, Acid or Conner getting the belt so that makes face side slightly stronger in my option and this heel champion makes slightly more sense to me.

Singles Match

Devil's Daughter vs. Suzanne Brazzle

As said, I except Brazzle to win and Daughter winning the tag match didn´t change my opinion

Tag Team Match

Acid & Acid II vs. The Fighting Irish (Conner Threepwood & Crockett Tubbs)

Acid is one of my (many) favorite wrestlers so I do play favorites with this pick

Singles Match

Art Reed vs. James Diaz

Doubtful that Diaz would be on the level to go over Reed, though I could see it happening is Reed was only on three shows deal and you don´t plan to bring him back.

Singles Match

Jana Marie Bowen vs. Olivia Diamond

Diamond won the three way so I figure Bowen takes the win back here.

Tag Team Match

Black Diamond & Elle May Watson vs. Joy Ryder & Sabrina Wells

Wells did have two matches with Brazzle so I assume you have plans for her.

10-man Battle Royale

Blue Dragon, Bob Casey, Dreadnaught, Gareth Rayne, Nathan Coleman, Original Sinner, Paul Steadyfast, Pepper Pelton, Too Hot, & The Masked Mauler VII

Knowing that Paul was on three shows deal was enough to make me hesitate but I suspect that Wayne and Coleman could be in with same terms and I don´t see anyone else winning here (as long as one of those three would stay, if they are all leaving then it is anyone´s ball game) so I go with Paul as he have looked like most solid performer out from those three.

GLW Crowning A Champion

In a decent match, Paul Steadyfast won a battle royal in 15:17 after The Masked Mauler VII returned to help elimination Too Hot. The other members of the 'final four' were Too Hot, Nathan Coleman and Gareth Wayne, with Too Hot being the final elimination. Dreadnought got the most eliminations over the course of the match. -

James Diaz cuts a promo hyping up his upcoming match with Art Reed. He said that the only reason that he didn't slap Art Reed upside the head for interrupting him last week was out of James's respect of his father (and his father's respect of Art). James says he looked up to Art as a kid, but he doesn't look up to anyone (gesturing to his large stature), not even to his "Uncle Art". -

In a decent match, Art Reed defeated James Diaz in 11:04 by pinfall with a Dark Matter. -

The Fighting Irish cut a promo hyping their upcoming match with Acid & Acid II. Conner states he was disappointed by last week. Disappointed in his trainer, Acid, for selfishly interfering in his match and disappointed in himself for not thinking it would happen. Conner starts to apologizes to Tubbs for having to call him in to fight his battle, but Crockett stops him and says that after tonight the only people that are going to be disappointed are Acid and Acid II. -

Suzanne Brazzle cuts a promo hyping up her upcoming match with Devil's Daughter. She says she after all these years, she still doesn't quite know what Devil's Daugher's deal is, but it doesn't matter. Nothing is going to stop Brazzle from writing the last chapter of her career, not Elle May, not Double D, not anyone. -
42

In a bout that had superb wrestling and great heat, Suzanne Brazzle defeated Devil's Daughter in 15:33 by pinfall with a Miracle Connection. During the match Elle May Walton tried to interfere, but was stopped by Sabrina Wells. -
47

Raphael cuts a promo hyping up his upcoming match with Rayne Man while lounging in a hammock. Raphael says that Raphael knows all about the Rayne Man. Raphael calls "Greg" a good hand that obstructed his rise on the "supreme mountain", forcing Raphael to show his art to the ungrateful fans in Rhode Island. Raphael says that Raphael's suffering ends tonight. -
40

In a bout that had superb wrestling and great heat, Rayne Man defeated Raphael in 24:39 by pinfall with a Rayne Drop. Rayne Man wins the GLW Great Lakes title. This match was part of the 'Great Lakes Title Tournament' tournament. -
50

After a match a tired Rayne takes the microphone as Dale helps strap the newly won title around his waist. Rayne starts to thank the fans, saying he'll do the Great Lakes proud by defending this title any time, when five robed figures come throughout the armory and start to beat down Gregory "Rayne Man" Henn.

Throughout the assault, the robes are removed to reveal, Acid, Acid II, Devil's Daughter, Dreadnought and Original Sinner. Acid takes the mic and tells Rayne "Welcome to Living Hell". Acid lays the title across Rayne's prone body as the show ends. -

And we've made to the end of the road for GLW wrestling, at least as events go. And I feel like this is a great note to end on. The event had the highest overall rating, the best match of the diary in Rayne/Raphael, and the highest attendance.

I also had some great backstage incidents to go alone with the great show as I was informed that Acid has been passing selling tips to Conner Threepwood and phycology tips to Acid II. This is a coo addition and makes me more likely to try and leverage and create these situations going further. There were also notices of Rayne Man brightened the backstage and Suzanne getting brought into Stuart's court for being messy (with a positive impact on Brazzle).

The night wasn't all good as I learned that Jana Marie Bown and Olivia Diamond don’t click in the ring as opponents, derailing any (hypothetical) plans I would have had to put them in a full blown feud. I also really need to get it in my head that the default for angles is for wrestlers to be unscripted, because Acid, James Diaz, and Raphael all struggled with going off-script. I also forgot to hire a second referee, though it didn't seem to hurt us too much.

Match wise, Conner continues to be the star of the show as he puts up the best match rating of the bunch, even getting the match results to call out his performance. Not an easy feat considering just how good Acid, Acid II, and Crockett Tubbs are. Rayne Man also justified his placement on the card has puts together the best match of his short GLW career (51), while Raphael wasn't that far behind. The most disappointing performance had to of been JMB, but it's tough to hold it against her. Negative chemistry is a real pain.

During the match notes, I noticed that both Conner and Tubbs got a tag team specialist bonus, something that I totally forgot about when I put this match together. I really like that this personality attribute is in the game as it offers a way to give bonuses to certain wrestlers and teams without having to force chemistry notes. I also noticed that the battle royale didn't offer up any ratings. I'm not that surprised considering how much space it would take, especially if you had more than team people), however it does mean that if you are looking to see how good a new hire is, you are going to have to pick a different match type.

Finally let's take a look at your predictions from the first show:

• Zergon: 5/7

• Leion: 4/7

Looks like Raphael was expected to win based on the face/heel divide. And while I get the idea behind the pick, I was less worried about that as much I was looking to set the main event scene in these first three shows. I wanted a babyface to be on the receiving end of attack from Acid and company and Raphael has the 100% Heel tag. I guess I could have had Acid attack a Rayne after he loses, but that would just bring of questions as to why Acid attacked Rayne over the new champion. The debut of Acid's stable is also why I had Acid and Acid II lose the tag match. Despite it not quite working this way in-game, Acid's post-main event attack more or less wipes away the sting of him losing for a second straight event.

Speaking of stables, let's talk about how they work in 2020.

Much like most features in the game, this screen is simpler than you think. Most of the dropdowns you see only concern the AI and/or are straight forward. There are however two aspects that I think need a bit of explanation, stable type and member roles. Stable type is like match and angle focus for a promotion in that it tells the game how the stable should be rated, while the member roles defining each member's place within the stable. For example, a Faction stable will look at all of the members of the stable that aren't "lackeys" or "fodder", but will weight the actions of the "leader" the most.

For this group, I've gone with the Cult faction, which is 100% focused on the leader. That said, I've set the other members of the group to the role I think fits them the best, just in case it does play a part as well as just be a reminded to myself.

From where are you getting all those cool logos though? And, how are you making imgur pictures show? So far, in my diary, they only showed up as links. T_T

You have to use the IMG tag. If you look at the top bar there is a picture of a yellow square with a mountain on it. Click that and drop your image into the pop up.

You can also just quote this post and see how I did it here:

Just use those tags instead of the default URL that happens when you just past a picture in.
