February 2020 - #6 - The Wrestling Classic Preview

"Why don't you all fade away

And don't try to dig what we all say

I'm not trying to cause a big sensation

I'm just talkin' 'bout my generation" "My Generation - The Who

So, after a successful January event in the Rip Chord Invitational, we keep moving forwards. 2020 is hopefully going to be a stepping stone year in what's going to be a long but rewarding decade for MAW. We continue building stars and giving kids breaks. We continue to reward our fans who part with their hard-earned cash by giving them a show that they can be glad they invested in. The Wrestling Classic has been a great event in years past for us delivering some excellent matches and I expect that to continue here. So let's run down the card that Jay, Marvin and I have put together.

Bradley Blaze © vs Cheetah Boy (Mid Atlantic Championship)

This will be Bradley's first real test of his tenure as the champion against the wily veteran of MAW in Cheetah Boy, a former Champion in his own right. The finish to the Exhibition bout last month added some fuel to the fire of this story and it should be a worthy main event for the show.

Jaylon Martin © vs Copperhead (Mid Atlantic American)

The first defence of Martin's American title and his first match of the new decade in the company defending against the ever consistent Copperhead, an 8 year veteran of the company and still only 27 years old. TCW seem to have high hopes for Martin and the kid looks like a star but does he have what it takes to get the job done against a guy who has yet to taste gold in MAW?

Joey Fili vs Davis Wayne Newton

A TCW developmental talent in Fili vs one of the latest additions to the roster. Fili is a legitimately tough dude, as the Samoan stereotype fits, and is here from TCW to get the business done and is riding a good wave of momentum in his debut year. DWN has been 12 years in the business but is debuting in MAW here in what'll be an interesting match-up for him and a real test for both.

Josh Jacobs vs Miller Fforde

The no-nonsense in-ring technician up against the always reliable underdog. This should be an intense, fiery match-up after Jacobs cost Fforde the Mid Atlantic Championship a few months ago and brought his exciting reign to an end. Fforde is out for revenge and this should be an instant classic.

The Heartbreak Express vs The Scheme (#1 Contender's for Tag Team Championship)

Real potential here for MOTN with these two excellent tag teams who have 3 tag championship reigns between them. The winner of this match will be next in line for a tag team title opportunity after The Wolf Pack couldn't get it done last month. These 2 have had some real battles over the years with The Architect and Pilgrim ending Needham & Liotta's second title reign in September 2018.

The Latino Kings vs The Wolf Pack

The Wolf Pack need to bounce back from their unsuccessful title bid at the RCIXV and what better way to do it than slapping down the newest addition to the tag division in The Latino Kings. Galindo & Velasquez are 5-time champions back in FCW and their most decorated team in history but that doesn't mean the success will automatically translate to success here. A clash of styles here that should deliver.

Tyrone Gray vs The Historian

One-half of the tag champions in singles action against a rising star, and one half of the tag duo known as The Past Masters. A win here for Gray cements his status as an elite competitor. A win for The Historian will offer physical back-up to his credentials and may put The Past Masters in the hunt for the tag titles.

Also featured on the night will be some ring-time for Ernest Youngman and a celebration of his victory in the Rip Chord Invitational.

The 3 of us are happy with the card. It continues to showcase and build new talent and offer up new storyline potential. Plus, with our expanding roster, a good show here and a successful event will help cement the idea that as of next month we may end up introducing a second show.

Predictions for The Wrestling Classic

The Latino Kings vs The Wolf Pack (20-minute time limit)

Comments: The Latino Kings are an experienced babyface tag team with several FCW Tag Title reigns here. A good win establishing them as a duo and adding more depth to your tag title picture.

Jaylon Martins © vs Copperhead (Mid Atlantic American Championship match - 30-minute time limit)

Comments: Copperhead ain't winning a singles title!

Joey Fili vs Davis Wayne Newton (20-minute time limit)

Comments:DWN gets established here in MAW and gets ready for a potential American title feud or even to get ready for Bradley.

Tyrone Gray vs The Historian (20-minute time limit)

Comments: Come on baby.

The Heartbreak Express vs The Scheme (#1 Contender's Match for Tag Titles - 30-minute time limit)

Comments:

Josh Jacobs vs Miller Fforde (20-minute time limit)

Comments: Tainted finish, I think.

Bradley Blaze © vs Cheetah Boy (Mid Atlantic American Championship Match - 60-minute time limit)

Comments: I think you mean Mid Atlantic Championship match here -- and I don't think Cheetah is going to take the belt from Blaze.

Appreciate all the predictions and feedback on the diary, guys and girls. I can't thank you enough.

Historian, you're quite right in that I made a mistake with the main event. It is for the Mid Atlantic Championship. not the American Championship. I've also noticed that, again, you've left out one match on your prediction card and thought I'd better bring it to your attention so you don't needlessly miss out on points.

There is still time for others to get in their predictions also as the show may not be posted until later this evening or possibly even tomorrow.

Bradley Blaze © vs Cheetah Boy (Mid Atlantic Championship)

Blaze's reign just started.

Jaylon Martin © vs Copperhead (Mid Atlantic American)

Never saw anything in Copperhead, Jaylon I don't know anything about since I haven't touched the 2020 CV, but he's probably better than Copperhead.

Joey Fili vs Davis Wayne Newton

DWN is a new signing and you're low on main event heels.

Josh Jacobs vs Miller Fforde

Miller needs this win to maintain legitimacy.

The Heartbreak Express vs The Scheme (#1 Contender's for Tag Team Championship)

I'm a mark for the HBE

The Latino Kings vs The Wolf Pack

Building up new challengers for DeMarcus and Gray

Tyrone Gray vs The Historian

Probably a DQ win here, starts a fued.

Great first show, also damn you Pablo for robbing me of my perfect score. DAMN YOU.

It's actually kind of sad that you're wrong because it means in canon such a terrible worker has held the title

<p>Pro Wrestling Reporter Update</p><p> </p><p>

</span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">

Good evening, wrestling fans. It's time for your bi-monthly (that's every two months and not twice a month, by the way) recap of all the things you may, or may not, have missed in the wacky world of professional wrestling. </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">

First, the wrestling world suffered a huge loss to begin the new decade with the death of wrestling legend, Rip Chord. The man doesn't need much of an introduction what with his legendary career already well documented so I'll just say this:</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">

He will rightly go down as one of the all-time greats in the business. A tremendous bad guy who could draw legitimate heat and incited many a riot back in the day. His 20+ year rivalry with Sam Strong may well go down as the greatest rivalry in professional wrestling history. He was a man who made a lot of people very rich, a lot of fans very happy (and angry) and, in spite of some of his antics and demons who got to him in the latter part of his in-ring career, is widely respected and highly regarded by fans and colleagues alike for his contributions to the business. We may never see his like again and, though it's sad that he's left us, we're grateful to have had him. </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">

Let's get right into the current ongoings of the wrestling world starting with the perennial big 3 in the US.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">

</span></span><img alt="SWmn3cy.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/SWmn3cy.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">

USPW debuted their new B-TV show 'USPW Crash' on the Reverie network and so far, it's been surprisingly high quality for a 'B show', thanks in no part to the excellent women of USPW. So far the shows have been of consistently good quality and every show has featured women in the main event which can mean good things for the future of the women's division as they're knocking it out of the park. The second piece of news is that some people must be questioning the creative team as at USPW Red, White & Blue! Running Wolf ended the 7-month long reign of Rich Money to become their World Champion. This was stunning for many reasons, the biggest of which is that Rich Money is embroiled in a feud with Champion and hasn't engaged with Wolf this year. An unusual situation but let's see where it leads. </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">

</span></span><img alt="cdaTOih.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/cdaTOih.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">

There isn't much to report from SWF. They moved their time slot on C.A.N.N from prime-time to late night. It's unclear why the move was made but it's resulted in them losing 600,000 viewers from where they were though the current numbers remain consistent as they sit at about a 1.8/1.9 region.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">

Aside from the time slot change, there isn't much coming in from New England. They could be testing the waters with a push for Oliver Kobb as he's won his only 4 matches so far this year but they've all been on pre-shows.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">

</span></span><img alt="LtGLzTX.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/LtGLzTX.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">

TCW's shows have been consistently good of late. Not spectacular, but good. The exception to this was their TCW Malice In Wonderland event which was headlined by an excellent title defence for Aaron Andrews vs Wolf Hawkins as the show drew a 2.60 buy rate (about 1.3million buys). Compare that to The War To Settle The Score which drew 37,000 fans to the show but only a 1.57 buy rate. The latest event was headlined by one-half of the tag team champions The Behemoths, Titan, defeating Aaron Andrews for the World Championship. Yes. You read that right. Titan beat AA for the world title in the main event of the show in what, admittedly, was a good match. The semi-main of Wolf Hawkins defeating Jay Chord, however, was a near 5-star classic. Let's hope Brent Hill knows what he's doing.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">

That covers the big 3 in the USA. Now let's hunker ourselves down and take a look at the rest.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">

Sean McFly is the new CWA World Champion at the age of 46 after defeating Christian Price at CWA Clash Classic 2020. The company are putting on reasonable shows but the MVP of the company is undoubtedly Cameron Vessey who is putting on the MOTN no matter who he ends up in the ring with. Vessey is moving into a feud with Sean McFly it seems which should prove fruitful for both men.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">

Not a whole lot to report, at the moment, in the territory companies of North America. Jackpot Jordan & Jake Idol are two-time tag champions in PSW after defeating Samoan Destruction Inc. Al Coleman defeated Frankie Perez at CZCW Vendetta to become Coastal Zone Champion for the second time. Pablo Rodriguez remains the COTT World Champion with three successful defences so far this year proving himself to be an excellent alliance champion.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">

South of the border hasn't had much change so far this year but the invincibility of Gino Montero has evaporated. Despite having gone his first year in the company without a loss, 2020 has been a huge stepback having lost all 6 of his matches so far this year. I'm not sure if he's managed to upset some of the higher-ups in the company but there's cooling someone's momentum and there are burials. Montero is still putting on excellent matches, no question, but the shine has definitely faded from Gino Montero.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">

If you're looking for the most consistently excellent company in the world right now? Look no further than 21CW. They're putting on regular 5* matches on free TV, they're consistent in their storytelling and Tommy Cornell is still proving every night that he's the best in the business. The company's stranglehold on the European market is significant but when the product is this good there are few people that will complain.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">

Down in Australia, RAW are obviously still the biggest fish in the pond and Swoop McCarthy continues to prove why he's one of the best performers in the business and his feud with Maurice Jackson is doing big business for the company. Up in Japan, BHOTWG is placing their faith in Heihachiro Sakai as he defeated Kinnojo Horri at BHOTWG Warrior Globe to become their World Champion. BHOTWG also signed away Brute Kikuchi from PGHW, resulting in them vacating their tag team titles for the first time in the company's 23 year history. Kikuchi has now formed a formidable tag team with Murai Enomoto known as The Crew while Noriyori and Sanda defeated The Ring Generals for the vacated PGHW Tag Titles to become two-time champions.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">

That about covers it all for now and I think I've hit my word count for this issue. I thank you very much for spending your time here. Make sure to keep your eyes on The Pro Wrestling reporter for all your news and insider scoops. Til next time, folks! </span></span></p>

  • 2 weeks later...

Author's note:

I'm back. Been quite unwell this past week thus my inactivity on the forums and others dynasties of late but I've been keeping tabs on them and everyone continues to obviously do outstanding work.

Finally bought the full game today (been away from the laptop all week) so can crack on with some progress here.

Just to say thank you to those of who nominated the diary for a DOTM award. My first ever. I'm humbled.

The next update will be going up later today with Sam's reflection on The Wrestling Classic.

Thanks, all!

March 2020 - #7 - A recap of February and The Wrestling Classic

"I reflect on my reflection

And I ask myself the question

What's the right direction to go?

I don't know." "Man or Muppet" - The Muppets

Another good show to continue our strong start into the new decade. Our attendance had dropped by 64 which was ultimately disappointing given the main strap was on the line in the culmination to the Cheetah Boy and Bradley Blaze saga but I can't be too disappointed. It was still a strong show with the boys performing well, for the most part, and we made a profit just short of $8500 for the month which is a thousand+ over what we made in January. Can't argue with that. So, from a financial standpoint, we're in an excellent position and that played heavily into our discussions of introducing a second show each month. We know that we have a good-sized roster with everyone fighting for a place on a card. We know that we have the COTT at our disposal to bring and showcase talent from other territories. Why not use that? I'd been in discussions with the COTT to expand anyway and extend invitations to a few more companies. All these points played into the discussions between myself, Marvin and Jay with Ricky offering his worldly advice as well. After a few drinks and extended discussions, we agreed to go ahead with a second show for the company. It could be a bit of a risk but we had the talent, mostly, and we had the financial stability, for now, to take the chance. So, as of April, in the middle Saturday of every month, we'll run MAW Evolved. Now, let's recap Wrestling Classic

First off in backstage news with the boys, RDJ continues to lay down the law. Noggin allegedly was late picking up talent for the show. RDJ's punishment? Buy his travel partners meals at the next 3 shows. RDJ may lack certain things but creativity isn't one of them. Not much to report from the show's opening. The Latino Kings are an exceptional team. The Wolf Pack are young and learning but held their own.

Jaylon is a kid with real promise as an entertainer but he has a long way to go in the ring. They say that the man makes the belt and not the other way around, and I'm not sure if Jaylon is doing that belt any favours right now. Decent enough. But here we come to the main course of the critiques. ****ing Joey Fili. I felt bad for DWN because, in his first match in the company, he had to carry it solo. I get it. Fili is 19. He's not long in the game. He's learning. But this was bad for the kid. Big improvements needed. I'm not gonna say he was the drizzling shits but he wasn't far off. I don't know what TCW want out of him but he's Samoan which gives him in an excellent shot at doing well in the business so we'll chalk it up to a bad night.

The rest of the show was very good. The matches all improved after this one. The kids stepped up and performed and are getting themselves over. Tennessee William is a kid who is certainly getting himself over. The altercation between him and Youngman was a reward for the fans who attended the RCI as these two lit it up in the ring playing to the live audience. William can cut a heck of a promo and has a way with words that blends into his quick-talking, southern drawl seamlessly. A great heat-getter and there's real legs in this feud with Youngman, thus putting them together again in a rematch at Super Showdown.

The main event was a good match. Both men delivered exactly what we asked and aimed for with Blaze getting his revenge. Yes, he used the title belt to help get the win but we did it to highlight how bad-ass the cowboy is and that, although he's a good guy, he isn't always smiles and high-fives. It played out perfectly and now we build towards the next show and the next story.

Not much else to report here at the moment. We're entering March which is the time of year when the TCW dojo school produces its annual homegrown talent influx so we'll see what comes of that situation. No news as of yet but if there are indeed TCW reps at the MAW shows watching their current crop of talent they'll see that there is a long way to go. I mean, the company isn't short on talent so there is no rush but I see that they put the world title on Titan at the last PPV so... maybe there changing things up? Let's see what the month brings.

Great to have you back. Enjoyed the show, and don't be so hard on Filli. He's gonna be a star one day. I bet on it.

Yeah Fili has promise buy Sam wasn't impressed. His in ring performance was a 9 and he had an 'off night' too. Disappointing for DWN's first match was all.

Thank you all for the support and kind words. Glad to be feeling better and back.

March 2020 - #8 - MAW Super Showdown build-up and preview

"Bad dreamer, what's your name?

Looks like we're riding on the same train

Looks as though there'll be more pain

There's gonna be a showdown." "Showdown" - Electric Light Orchestra

When you only book one show a month it can be very difficult to come up with a logical and justifiable card that you want people to pay their hard-earned cash to see. We're a small company so we don't charge a fortune for shows but we're a proud company and regardless of cost or attendance, we want to do the best we can by our loyal fans. The difficulty of booking comes in that with only 12 shows a year and a roster of kids wanting time to do their thing, you have to create and end storylines in quick succession on the same shows to have a cohesive flow. Honestly, despite the stresses involved it could be easier to book 52 TV's and 12 PPV's a year. That's why I'm grateful for the loyalty of Jay & Marvin around me. They take great pride in not only their in-ring roles but everything they do backstage. I may not always show it but I'm damned proud of them and grateful to have them.

So with this, we've put together what we think is a compelling show but also a show that says "There's gonna be payoffs coming and we're going to make sure that with our second show every month, you're proud to be a fan of the product!". At the end of the day, we've been around for 15+ years and the fans know what they're getting with us. There are some fans in attendance at our shows that may well have been to every single one I've run for the past 10 years and you can, and should, never underestimate or abuse the loyalty of fans.

Bradley Blaze, Jaylon Martins, Miller Fforde vs Copperhead, Josh Jacobs & Davis Wayne Newton

There's some recent history with 5 of these competitors and if we want fans to take DWN seriously, he needs to be in the ring with the bigger names in the company and being in the ring with Blaze on his current run should elevate everyone in there. Let's see where the fallout takes us?

DeMarcus & Gray vs The Scheme (Mid Atlantic Tag Team)

The first time this year the titles are being defended in what should be a good encounter with these four guys. The Scheme are also former champions and Architect is keen to bounce back from his first-round RCI exit with gold!

Ernest Youngman vs Tennessee William (Winner challenges for COTT Heavyweight Title at MAW Americana)

These two had an excellent match at the Rip Chord Invitational and had a good altercation last month in the ring with William generating solid heat in a promo. This match is gonna main-event, I'm 100% confident it's going to deliver and we've added the proverbial cherry on top with the winner's bonus too.

Jack America vs Cheetah Boy

America is a kid with a lot of promise. One of the most talented youngster's we currently have. This is a big opportunity for him vs Cheetah Boy who's fresh off losing his challenge for the main strap. Could surprise the fans in attendance with the quality in this one.

Joey Fili vs Ade Nelson

Ade's first in-ring appearance for us this year in which he'll face of vs Fili who has a lot to prove after his performance last month. Hopefully, Joey improves in his performance this time round.

Rudy Velasques w/ Hector Galindo vs Sione Tokoeka w/ Sean Noggin

These men met in tag-team action last month and seemed keen to grapple up again in the aftermath. The Wolf Pack felt slighted by their loss against the MAW newcomers so will be looking to gain revenge in the only way they know how to. With violence!

The Heartbreak Express w/Lisa Bowen vs The Greatness

Both teams here have something to prove. The Greatness will want to get back into the tag title hunt since they lost them to DaMarcus & Gray. Plus, they#re the TCW talent with something to prove. The Heartbreak Express lost their #1 contender's match last month and with the division expanding and becoming more competitive won't want to lose too much ground on other teams around them.

So that's the card we've got going ahead this month. Some matches were thrown together that could lead to things down the road and some pay-offs and incentives to encourage the fans to lend their interest. The guys have a lot to prove this month, especially with the possibility of TCW sending down talent should they have a graduate class this year. Let's see what the boys have got!

  • 4 weeks later...

Afternoon, strangers.

I've been hit and miss on the forums lately after a series of life events. Hospital appointments for heart-related stuff (I'm all good!), family things and just general Covid-19 blues. Being furloughed from 2 jobs gives a lot of time off but sucks at the same time. Everyone is in similar boats though, so no pity parties.

So, after a month off of the diary with minimal involvement in playing TEW, I'm pleased to say I'm back and the MAW Super Showdown results will be posted later this evening.

Hopefully, the followers I had are not lost and will return and maybe some new ones will be gained. Despite my limited involvement on the boards of late, I've been keeping tabs on the dynasty's and everyone is doing an exceptional job. I've especially got a way to go to compete with Tryker2710's exceptional MAW Diary.

As I say, Super Showdown will follow soon.
