<p>I could not find a thread already for NYCW so hopefully there isn't one, but feel free to close this if there is.</p><p> </p><p>

This is just a thread to discuss NYCW as a company and what you guys think of them, what you've done with them etc.</p><p> </p><p>

After spending a week or so looking around the CV, and getting a bit overwhelmed with the idea of where to start, I have finally settled on NYCW as my first game.</p><p> </p><p>

I figured they are quite low maintenance and easier to get in to, in my brain, due to simple booking. I've decided not to hire anyone new, as the roster is already oversized, and am looking at who I can cut after my first couple of shows (Looking at you, Devastating Don).</p><p> </p><p>

I've spent some time setting up a spreadsheet, the first time I've ever done that, so hopefully that will come of use as I go in to my first event soon.</p>

<p>I've always had a spot for NYCW. </p><p> </p><p>

I ran it briefly in TEW13 (my last proper go through TEW) and have a save now with them.</p><p> </p><p>

I take my time, look and see if there are any chemistry between workers. Spoilers for a future entry in my diary but there is a Tag Team with poor chemistry right now that need to be concerned about their jobs</p><p> </p><p>

I've yet to break out a spreadsheet but I know what I want. I'm going to create a list of NYCW wrestlers going down and across, and when they've faced off, record their rating</p>

<p>I've just finished booking my first show. I don't want to overcrowd the events so I kept it to 6 matches on the main show (I have 3 more matches on the pre-show because it's my first show and I wanted to gauge where everyone is, performance wise, before I go to having less workers on future shows).</p><p> </p><p> The main thing I have found so far is I like to have my Main Title be defended in longer matches but, as Steve Flash, I am constantly prompting myself that Brutus can't handle longer matches. I like Brutus and planned to keep him as champion but if that causes an issue, I may have to take the belt off of him sooner rather than later. I don't want it to transition to William again, just yet, so I need to find another heel who can step up instead.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="GreenDemon" data-cite="GreenDemon" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="48567" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>I like the roster size, characters, and company style. It's old school, simple booking and, due to the product, I don't feel a lot of pressure to grow them too fast. It's fun to try and find guys that I think best suit their style.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Clarity" data-cite="Clarity" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="48567" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>I've always had a spot for NYCW. <p> </p><p> I ran it briefly in TEW13 (my last proper go through TEW) and have a save now with them.</p><p> </p><p> I take my time, look and see if there are any chemistry between workers. I'll be keeping track of all chemistry in a table, tag team and opponents, and I'll be recording match ratings on another sheet, so I suppose I can just check there.</p>

<p>Is Dragonmack even around anymore? </p><p> </p><p>

Back in the day there were about 5 of us who almost exclusively played NYCW. It's my favorite company and I've played as them since TEW 2005.</p><p> </p><p>

I took a look at them and they look interesting. Glad to see the style hasn't changed, but I'm reserving judgement until the full game comes out.</p>

<p>One year update:</p><p> </p><p>

I don't like Brutus Milano, so I had Tennessee Williams beat him in February. Tennessee first fueded with Riley McManus, then Brutus Milano again, then Freedom Eagle.</p><p> </p><p>

During this time I had Riley McManus win the King of NY Battle Royal and gave him a win streak. Anytime a worker announced they were retiring from the game world, I brought them in to job them to my boys.</p><p> </p><p>

In October, Riley started a feud again with Tennessee Williams and beat him at the Deceber show for the Empire title. My goal is to keep him with the belt a bit, while Tennessee getsa redneck stable together and feuds with the Dimeo family.</p><p> </p><p>

Speaking of the Dimeos, I gave the tag straps back to them in August. The Casey's are not doing well, its a mix of bad consistency and somehow, poor chemistry together.</p><p> </p><p>

Denny King won the Tri-State regional in February and I don't know what to do with it. Given the average title run, he should have lost it already but there's really no one I could think of who I'd like to have it. I might just give it to Andrew Harper because I always liked him.</p><p> </p><p>

Other interesting notes:</p><p> </p><p>

- Freedom Eagle and Hawkeye Calhoun are both really good but they're not getting to Star status at all. </p><p> </p><p>

- Popularity is tough to get past 17 unless you job out retiring workers with high pop or abuse "keep strong"</p><p> </p><p>

- Finances are very stable and we're turning a nice profit. Thinking of running two shows a month (probably could have started that in the summer.)</p><p> </p><p>

- Due to BCG, Animal Harker demanded a pay increase from $30 to $500. I jobbed him out and will fire him after having him put over Sal Dimeo.</p><p> </p><p>

- PSW released Rich and Famous... I want them in a Ric Flair type gimmick. </p><p> </p><p>

- Time advance still seems long but if it stays this length well into the late game it's a vast improvement.</p><p> </p><p>

- Zimmy Bumfhole was the wrestler of 2020</p><p> </p><p>

- 21CW had Company of the year, MOTY and SOTY</p><p> </p><p>

- SWF are the Largest company in the world.</p>

It's now January 2022 and we're considered small.

Rival company effects have hit and our shows which should average in the low 50's are now being rated in the mid 40's. The production updates I'd need to make are a big jump in money spent. I'm averaging about $15K a month in profit and upgrading the production values would end up costing me about 20-40k a month.

I was running two shows a month and I've cut the second show.

We're now being streamed on demand at WrestleWorld at 60% to NYCW. We make on average 2K a month form the broadcast deal, which is really nothing.

I'm upgrading merchandise. I signed an aging James Justice who was unemployed to be a special attraction for us, and he pulls massive merch numbers, about 20K a month from him alone. For comparison, we're making 26K a month in merch, total! And he's signed to a $2,600 an appearance contract, so he was totally worth the money.

My current plan is to grow nationally, 1 event a month until the merch money can upgrade our production at which point we'll grow and get a better TV deal. Focusing on East Coast Today as our next broadcast goal.

One thing I wasn't ready for was workers handing in their notice, seemingly randomly. Rock Downpour did it and Sal DiMeo did it in the middle of a push. For DiMeo, I hired the unemployed Spencer Edmund, remaned him Spencer DiMeo and put him in charge of The DiMeo Family. I notice you can usually hire them back after a while, as I rehired Rock Downpour about 6 months later.

I'm also hiring indy guys to 3 month contracts to job for me. This keeps their morale from tanking and gives me fresh jobbers to elevate my main roster.

The DiMeo family really disappointed me this save. The tag team is serviceable but Machine Gun Marino is kind of a bust and Sal DiMeo handed in his notice. I can hire him back right now, but at this point, I just don't want to. My plan of hiring Spencer Edmund as "Spencer DiMeo" has kind of fizzled out, so now I don't know what to do with them.

The jobber idea I had last post has really worked well, so I think that's the rotation I'm going to do in most of my companies.

Signing James Justice is really the main way I'm profitable based on merch sales. He still pulls in 20K and my next highest, McManus pulls in like $400.

I'm in 2023, so we're really perparing for the next generation of NYCW grown wrestlers. I have 4 who I've hired that I'm actively grooming and I'm continuing to hire aging stars to feed to my upper card.

After messing around with some other companies, I'm starting a new save with the latest patch.

My starting strategy is to bring in older, higher pop workers who basically usually stay unemployed until they retire to put over my younger lower pop workers.

Heavily utilize the talent trades and loans with COTT to job to my territory guys. Matches between NYCW true borns should be a big deal.

Eventually I'll want to land a TV deal to AT LEAST have my events televised. That why, I'll be gaining pop across the country and it makes the talent trades easier.

My end goal is to have enough where I can set up a dojo and truly make an NYCW pure breed champion. I really want to see if one of my NYCW true born guys cn get signed by a big company and become world champion.

Is it weird to say I love the NYCW roster but not for NYCW? I've always seen them as one of those irl local promotions that book 3 shows a year that feature names like Jerry Lawler, Scott Steiner and Terry Funk mixed in with a few bigger regional indy names rather than a promotion with full-on storylines and a fleshed out canon.

Part of the problem there is that they've just never really grown in any appreciable way despite having great regular talents around. And while maybe you can put it down to New York not being a great place for independent wrestling, the number of guys they've had stick around long term and be valuable names only not to grow the product is something else.

I used to excuse it in the older versions as Stomper running a lot of charity events for local schools and the like (like how SMW did in Kentucky and Tennessee) that were nice enough for reputation and word of mouth but weren't really a return on investment. And then cheap-ass Larry Vessey took over, and he just cut out the charity events only to fall flat on his ass trying to promote his old school product without any good will.

I changed their product to no style. I convinced a good amount of guys to start working in the USA and got lucky on a couple releases from big companies. My top guys in no order are Angry Gilmore, Sal Dimeo, Ash Campbell, Maurice Jackson, Elmo Benson and Deaf Touch. I just lost Logan Wolfsbaine and the wild cats to TCW. I lost them as soon as they agreed to make me their development territory lol

<p>Haven't given NYCW a try yet but I've considered it. </p><p> </p><p>

Two pathways seem to be:</p><p> </p><p>

1. Have fun with Larry Vessey being old school minded & cheap and force yourself to book around that. Better yet would be to play Vessey & really work the gimmick.</p><p> </p><p>

2. NYCW gets bought out & finally grows. A rando guy I thought about doing this with is Remo. Obviously NYCW are tiny af and Remo is a homegrown guy but I like the idea that he's willing to fully bet on himself & that he would shock the world by showing he's more than just the bad ass headliner over at SWF who never really feels like the face of the company. Though I've also been intrigued by Remo at GSW too, so. He is based in Tri-State and I would love to book Remo so that was my thought process.</p>

<p>NYWC May 2022</p><p>

Current Champions:</p><p>

Empire : Rick Law </p><p>

Tag champs: The Fighting Irish (Connor trewood and Crockett tubs)</p><p>

Tri regional : James Diaz</p><p>

King of NY winners( 2020- Elmo Benson in a shocking debut ) 2021( changed the format from a rumble to a 32 man tournament in order to get over Sal Dimeo, Maurice Jackson, James Diaz and Deaf Touch. The finals were Deaf Touch vs Sal Dimeo with Sal putting his tri regional title on the line. 2022 winner was Rick Law defeating Sal Dimeo in the finals with Dimeos Empire title on the line. </p><p>

COTT Heavyweight champ: American flash. Angry Gilmore as champ made 48 defenses! The AI wouldn’t let him lose </p><p>

COTT Tag champs The LA Stars</p><p> </p><p>

- I’ve been able to convince some international guys to start working in America </p><p>

- I’ve added more companies to the COTT such as DIW, PSW, GCW, Saishio and more for a total of 14 companies) </p><p>

- I got accepted by USPW to be their development territory ( waiting on guys to be sent down. USPW also opened their PC so November 2022 I should get 8 rookies sent to me. </p><p>

- I secured a deal on wrestle world along with 3 other broadcasters for events and tv shows</p><p>

- I was doing tv tapings 4 episodes at a time but then made it weekly</p><p>

- Elmo Benson tore his quad but rather keep him off shows I convinced him to be come a manager. He’s the mouth piece of a stable called “The Monsterous Gentlemen” that includes Mass Hulk, Super Destroyer, Richie Riggins and Devastation Don. Elmo recently came back and even though his perception is a star I book him vs recognizable and unimportant guys. Only exception is tagging with Mass Hulk!</p><p>

- My stars and future stars whom I’m pushing are James Diaz, Deaf Touch, Tennessee William,Latino Kings, The Fighting Irish, Mass Hulk, Sal Dimeo, Angry Gilmore, Rick Law and Riddick Jordan. </p><p>

- The Dimeo family is still intact and even added the Fashionitas</p><p>

- Out of Reach was led by Maurice Jackson until the group turned on him(he was heading back to RAW). Riddick Jordan took over which also features the Casey Brothers and Bank Bremner( renames Donnie Crash) One of the Casey brothers has 18 months left of a 2 year prison sentence. </p><p>

- BMF Is a stable originally led by Fro Sure until TCW signed him. Fiasco Fierce now leads the group which includes Deaf Touch, Bullseye, Waylon Walls, Psycho Mike and Streetz. Bullseye and Walls are feuding and creating tension amongst BMF</p><p>

- Stars I’ve had that are got poached by one of the big 3 were Fro Sure, Logan Wolfsbaine, Tigre Salve, El Jaguar, Frankie Perez, Findlay o”farraday, Johnny bloodstone, Nelson callum, ash Campbell and a couple others</p><p>

- The company is medium sized and ranked # 7 in the world</p><p>

- The main feud is Rick Law vs Mass Hulk. Hulk won a #1 contender match vs Tennessee William for that right. I’m using promos, interferences and tag matches to build up to the title match. I’m having Law drop it to Hulk because Law is on the verge of leaving to film a tv show for several months and I don’t want to do a tournament. Plus I’ve been building Hulk for a year strong with Elmo Benson as his mouthpiece. </p><p>

- I lucked out signing Law cause TCW let him walk cause he was away doing politics. Once I got the update he returned I signed him right away. </p><p>

- All my deals are handshake ongoing.</p><p>

- I also signed Sam Keith as a road agent and also made him a leader of a group consisting of JT Ace, prime time jack pryde and Yuto Isono. All 3 have excellent star quality and charism. The ring ability isn’t quite there yet but I give them segments as well as mainly pre show matches and the occasional tag or 6 man tag on the main show. </p><p>

- I play as Steve Flash as the Booker and my product is no style</p>

Anybody else enjoying NYCW???

I love NYCW and always have an active game with them.

The problem is, they're in a very strange spot wherein they outgrow their current workers very quickly. The current crop of main eventers get outpaced by the guys you can eventually bring in and at around the two year mark, even with only running a show a month, you'll notice that there are so mny better workers who fit the old school style.

The truth is, NYCW is a company that should never really be above small size and all my games seem to fall apart as soon as I get a broadcasting deal.

I think the end goal of NYCW is to become a regional powerhouse. It should be a company where you're at 55 pop in the Tri-State and 20 pop everywhere else. I think the sweet spot is 2 events per month, maybe with a touring week every few months in New England or Great Lakes.

I think the key is to stay away from broadcasters. Once you broadcast, you tie your worker's pop and they can get poached quicker. The goal is to create the next Bruno Sammartino, not the next Hulk Hogan.
