In July, we're going to have an 8-person tournament, to crown the first ever GWU World Champion. You three can all guarantee a spot in that tournament if you win one match. You three and this apparent 'powerful friend of yours' vs me and three others in an 8-person, elimination tag match. The winning team enters the tournament, the losing team misses out."

Cobb celebrates his victory but is ambushed from behind by Kingston, frustrated by his loss. Cobb begins to turn the tides on his attacker, but Homicide also gets involved in the fighting. Once again, Cobb seems to be gaining the upper hand until Chris Hero hits him with an Emerald Elbow to the back of the head.

 

With Jeff Cobb laying motionless, Homicide slides the ring steps into the ring as Eddie Kingston grabs a steel chair. Chris Hero places Cobb's hand onto the steps and Kingston slams the chair down onto it numerous times. The three men eventually leave as ringside doctors treat Jeff Cobb in the ring.

 

The ring announcer announces that their will be a short intermission whilst the medical professionals see to Cobb's injuries.

STARR Promotions Statement

 

 

Thanks to everyone who attended night one of the GWU World Championship tournament. Later on today, we will have officially crowned the first ever GWU World Champion.

 

Unfortunately, we have received word from our medical team that Jeff Cobb will not be cleared to compete this evening. We felt it was fair to inform the fans of the situation before the show started. As it stand, Will Ospreay will face Homicide for a final spot and, due to the injury to Jeff Cobb, Samoa Joe will automatically advance into the final. As neither Homicide or Eddie Kingston are officially contracted with STARR Promotions or the Global Wrestling Union, there is no disciplinary action we can take on them. As this Chris Hero's second offence, we will confirm the action we take with him in due course. We want to be as open as possible about this with fans.

 

It's not the way we wanted this tournament to go, but we aim to deliver our promise of having a world champion crowned. We hope you enjoy the show and may the best man win.

Ospreay looks hesitant - he eyes up Joe, then Cobb but doesn't make a decision.

David Starr comes from under the ring and begins attacking Cobb with a chair. As Cobb lay lifeless in the ring, Starr offers the chair to Ospreay. Ospreay takes the chair and looks around, unsure what to do - but then begins wailing on Cobb as Starr demands the referee rings for the bell.
