Roger Monteiro vs. Prime Time Jack Pryde

We kicked things off with a decent little squash match to warm the crowd up; as usual they didn’t seem to realise it was a squash but enjoyed it anyways (in fairness I book even the squash matches as open affairs; nobody wants 10 to 15 minutes of one dude’s offence). Rog and Jack don’t have particularly good chemistry, and Jack was off his game as per usual- I’m not totally convinced I’ve actually seen Jack *on* his game yet- but Roger was good, the crowd popped for his comeback dropkick as always and he took the win with the Eagle Splash. I’m still not convinced by his role as our top face, though- I need to see some more direct comparisons but his performance wasn’t up there with Remmy or Tavon’s in the main event.

Kalder Tagg vs. Chip Martin

This was about as weak as I’d expected it to be but given how bad some of the undercard got last time, I’ll accept this (at least there were no injuries). Kalder’s slowly improving his performance, and whilst in all honesty he’ll probably never be a singles star he should be able to handle the odd key match on his own in a couple of years’ time. As for Chip, he’s inconsistent and green which was reflected in his decidedly weak performance tonight, but he’s got the oomph to be a major star and it wasn’t like he was truly dreadful or anything, just ropy. Factor in Haley’s always excellent work at ringside and the fact that this still warmed the crowd up and I’ll call the match a moderate success; not great but something that allowed two of our younger workers to get some extra experience in a safe environment. Kalder won- No Remorse Corps have lost a little too often out the gate- by putting Chip away with the Spinebuster.

Ray Snow vs. Pepper Pelton vs. Dominic DeGraff

This was another match that I hadn’t expected much from; with Pepper still working hurt (I’d given Stan a month off to recover but I couldn’t spare the both of them and Pep’s tougher) I booked this to limit his involvement and it left the match feeling very disjointed, plus Ray and Dom are both heels and not the kind you can easily cheer when they face off. On the other hand, Dom’s really getting over working with the rest of NRC and Ray can carry just about anyone so if I were gonna drop Pelton into a match I’d rather it was this one. Dom got the win as part of the general ‘building up the Corps’ plan for tonight, throwing Pepper out of the ring before pinning Ray with a Double Arm DDT.

It’s promo time for DeAnna as she’s on hype duty for Ace’s match.

 

“I ain’t been in this business for all that long but if there’s one thing I’ve seen a lot of in life it’s cracker thugs like you Wolf Tagg and no I ain’t callin’ you Wolfie, what are you, twelve? Boy, you think just ‘cos you lift weights in the gym and throw your weight around at your favourite bar that makes you the baddest man in the Rocky Mountain ring. Well you might be a tough guy but you ain’t so bad you can walk past Ace Youngblood! You get ready for a fight Wolf Tagg, ‘cos you’re about to get a h*ll of a one!”

 

This went pretty well- DeAnna did a good job going off-script which made for a nice change from the last couple of times we tried that.

Ace Youngblood vs. Wolfie Tagg

Yikes- this was not anything like as good as I’d hoped. The problem was Ace’s form; he was off it and wasn’t able to carry Wolfie. That was a definite issue given that Wolfie’s the weakest singles competitor of NRC- ideally he’d have been up against Rog but I couldn’t make that work with my plans- and definitely can’t handle a big singles match without help from the other side of the equation. In all honesty if it wasn’t for their name value I wouldn’t have gone with the Hot Taggs for No Remorse Corps, there were better options in terms of talent out there but they were all on the east coast. Still, I’ve got the Taggs and I don’t hate them or anything, they just take more careful handling than I’d maybe prefer. Wolfie took the win here; Ace was setting up for the Flying Tomahawk Chop only for Haley to distract the ref whilst Kalder interfered, crotching Ace on the top rope before throwing him into his brother’s Mafia Kick.

Winner: Wolfie Tagg Match Rating: 20

Mercutio and Mauler come out ahead of the tag match, Mercutio with a mic in his hand. Clearly it’s time for another promo.

 

“Y’know, when I saw you wrestling for the title last month, Tavon, there was one thing that really ate at me. Why you? Why did you get that shot and I didn’t, you’re no better than I am and, heck, I’ve been in this business longer than you have so it ain’t veteran’s privilege. And I realised something last month- I’m p*ssed as heck at you and I really, REALLY want to kick your @ss. So I went to Mauler and I asked him to help out, and you know what he told me? He’s just in this to wail on Remmy Honeyman. So I went to the sports commission and the company, I talked ‘em round and here we are, two on two and ready to kick your teeth in ‘cos you got a shot that should’ve been mine. I hope it was worth it, Tavon, ‘cos this? It’s gonna hurt, dude, as much as we can make it.”

 

I was honestly surprised by how this went- I didn’t have Mercutio down as one of my top talkers but the combo of name value and Mauler’s menace made for a very effective segment. It helped that ‘Cutio’s improv work as on point, he really made the whole thing flow well.

Tavon Blake Jr & Remmy Honeyman vs. Mercutio Sleep and The Masked Mauler VII

Put three of your most reliable top performers in a match along with a big name who can deliver on his day and what do you get? This match, more or less. Okay, Mercutio was off his game and still in his head from injuring Pelton last month but even then he was still pretty good, leaning into his gimmick by flagrantly cheating as much as he could and bumping like a boss. As for the others, they’re three of my top four performers in the ring (Silencer’s definitely in there too) and putting any combination of them in the ring guarantees a quality match. Mauler took the win- I wanted to give Mercutio a W to cheer him up but Mauler’s still the future Heavyweight champ of the two- nailing Tavon with the Piledriver whilst Mercutio took care of Remmy with the world’s most obvious eye rake.

Winners: Mercutio Sleep and The Masked Mauler VII Match Rating: 34

The Silencer vs. Max Mayhem

This was a decent match, but it’s clear that I may have to start changing things up in the title feud- The Wolfpack are great as opponents for No Remorse Corp but it’s clear that they don’t have much shelf life as challengers for the top belt. Max, for example, seems to already be losing a step or two physically (though that might just be wear and tear from working Grimm’s warehouse shows rather than permanent decline) and won’t be able to handle a lot of singles work going forward. He was still pretty good- the man’s body may not be where it was a few years ago but he’s a good worker and knows how to throw himself around for the big guys and they don’t come bigger in RMW than The Silencer. As for the champ, he’s done great work for us and continues to develop nicely; we’re coming up on the build for our first big show in June and I know for a fact that I want him working the best match we can for the main event. He took the win with the Drop Zone, cementing a good night for No Remorse Corps.

Winner: The Silencer Match Rating: 33

 

 

 

Overall Rating: 32, a step down from last month but I was happier with this show overall. Mercutio, Ray and Silencer get the praise this month for generally solid work.

Sandman Winks and The Historian- The Past Masters

Ages: 21 & 23 Billed From: Tallahassee, Florida & Louisville, Kentucky

Entrance Theme: Old Time Rock and Roll- Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band

Finishers: Deep Sleep (Sleeper Hold, Winks), Blast from the Past (Ripcord Lariat, Historian), Arm Bar (Historian), Rip Chord DDT (DDT, Historian), Flashback (Hart Attack, Double Team)

Characters: Sandman is…well, The Sandman; he makes you go to sleep with his powerful sleeper hold. The Historian’s an Old School Babyface, the kind of legit wrestler you loved to cheer in the 70’s and 80’s.

Evaluation: I’ve wanted these guys from day one, and now that we’re working towards a tag division it seemed like a good time to bring them in. They’ve got that MAW pedigree and the kind of resolutely old-school style that should really fit in here, and whilst they’re both a little inexperienced (and wildly inconsistent in Sandman’s case) they’ve got future champion stamped all over them. Well, they would if Tammy hadn’t wrestled me to the ground and taken my stamp away.

 

 

Sione Tokoeka

Age: 22 Billed From: Auckland, New Zealand

Entrance Theme: Heart of Gold- Neil Young

Finisher: Brainbuster Suplex

Character: The Kiwi Crusher’s a bad-ass brute who loves to stretch people out, there’s not a lot more to it than that.

Evaluation: Another MAW rookie, Sione’s come across to help Mercutio Sleep move into the tag division. He’s a very promising young worker, pretty inexperienced but with the kind of fundamentals you’d expect from a Boot Camp graduate. He can’t handle his own promos, and his intangibles are fairly average as well, but he’s got enough of an aura that Mercutio can handle the rest. If course if it turns out they have no chemistry then the whole thing’s b*gg*r*d but hopefully it won’t come to that.

 

 

Ricky Turner

Age: 34 Billed From: Huntsville, Alabama

Entrance Theme: Cold As Ice- Foreigner

Finisher: Figure Four Leglock

Character: Ricky’s an unfeeling machine- tap, snap or crack, he doesn’t care what happens to you.

Evaluation: With three rookies coming in I wanted to add another veteran to balance it out and Ricky fit the bill. He’s got virtually no name value on this side of the country but plenty of talent and should help a lot of the rookies in the undercard develop. Current plans with him are fluid- I might put him in a team with Ray Snow but if I do it’ll be an as-and-when situation rather than a permanent unit, at least to start with.

Spotlight On…The Rocky Mountain Tag Team Titles

 

 

This month we’re going to change things up in the spotlight and take a look at our forthcoming new title belts, The Rocky Mountain Tag Team Titles. The new belts will be unveiled at our big show in June, Won’t Get Fooled Again 2020, and the first champions will be crowned then. Now, anyone who follows RMW will know we already have two established tag teams in the company, The Hot Taggs of No Remorse Corps and The Aces of Mayhem in The Wolfpack, and both of those teams will be competing for the titles at the show. However, every title belt needs contenders and in order to launch the tag division we’ll be running a mini-tournament over the next two show; four new tag teams will be competing in knockout matches to determine who will be joining our established units in the title match. So now let’s meet those teams and see who will be participating in the tournament:

Sandman Winks and The Historian- The Past Masters

When we told our commentary team that The Past Masters were arriving in RMW Hugh ran around the room cheering at the top of his lungs. Not that that’s altogether surprising; if Rocky Mountain Wrestling’s all about bringing old-school wrestling into the modern day then Sandman Winks and The Historian embody that principal like few others teams out there. This tournament represents their first real shot at championship gold- they’ve yet to come close in MAW- and it’s fair to say they’ll be giving their utmost to make the most of this opportunity.

Chip Martin and Pepper Pelton- Young and Fearless

Stanley and Pepper haven’t enjoyed much success in RMW as singles wrestlers with precisely zero combined wins between them, but you’d be hard pressed to find two more talented young guns and more than one struggling singles competitor has found success in the tag ranks. Both men are young, fearless and full of self-confidence: precisely the ingredients you’d look for in tournament champions, in other words.

Ricky Turner and Ray Snow- Hearts of Ice

It’s no surprise that two of the most cold-hearted and ruthless men in wrestling should team up for this tournament and there’s no denying that between them Turner and Snow have more than enough talent to make it to the title match and win the whole thing. The only question has to be if they’re capable of working together; neither men is famous for his outgoing and friendly disposition, after all.

Mercutio Sleep & Sione Tokoeka- The Bad Guys

Mercutio Sleep has developed quite the poor reputation in his time with RMW, and it’s no surprise that when he decided to enter the tag tournament he had to bring in someone from outside to partner with him. It’s also no surprise than his partner Sione Tokoeka is hard as nails and highly inexperienced; just the sort of partner, in other words, that will do Mercutio’s dirty work for him. Not to diminish Sleep’s own abilities, though; he may not be well-liked but there aren’t many in RMW that can outfly or out-think him, not to mention his considerable mat skills.

 

So there we have it; four new teams, one shot at the RMW Tag Team Titles. Who will prevail in the tournament, and who will claim the Tag Team Titles at Won’t Get Fooled Again 2020? Well, you’ll have to buy the shows to find out.

Ace: If there's one thing I've learnt in this business it's to never dismiss somebody as 'just a tag guy'- sure, Wolfie's at his most dangerous when he's teaming up with his brother but the dude's six foot 7 and 280 pounds, that's a heck of a lot of muscle to hit you with. There's no shame in losing to a guy who's got half a foot in size and nearly 50 pounds of weight on you, no matter how experienced he is.

Somehow, Stanley Axis is seen as a star by our fans, most of whom I’m guessing don’t actually what a star looks like (I’ll give you a clue: it’s pretty much the opposite of Stanley Axis). Okay, so he can perform in the ring, nobody’s denying that, but who in their right minds think that 15 minutes isn’t enough Stanley Axis? As for Jack, he was once again off form and whilst he’s definitely improved since his debut the constant lack of form and generally weak performance is getting tiresome; if he doesn’t show major improvement by June I’ll probably get rid of him for someone else I can rely on more often. Stanley took the win here (he may be overrated by the fans but still), putting Jack away with the Pumphandle Slam.

So I looked all across the US and I found this man, Sione Tokoeka out of Auckland, New Zealand, and I knew, this was the man that’s gonna help me win those Tag Team Titles. I mean, look at the guy! Have you ever seen anyone tougher? ‘Cos I sure haven’t, hoss, and I’ve been around this business for longer than a cup of coffee, if you know what I mean. Chip, Pep, you might be Young and Fearless but we’re The Bad Guys and in this business? Bad Guys are good guys to back, you get me?”

 

Mercutio’s still feeling down, I’ll have to throw some more money his way after this show to cheer him up. The promo itself was definitely affected by that mood but was pretty good overall, Mercutio remains a good improviser and the crowd liked Sione’s gimmick well enough to play off of.

The Bad Guys vs. Young and Fearless

Man, my rookies do not know how to stay on form- both Chip and Pepper were off form and struggled to hand in decent performances (though they were both better than Jack). Fortunately they weren’t really my priority here, and the bad guys were both pretty good; Mercutio’s had form issues in the past but when he’s on the way he was here he’s as good as anyone and Sione did a good job here too for a guy who’s not well known on this side of the country (though I think MAW have a deal with Wrestleworld now which ought to help). Mercutio got the win- I’ve got plans for him, chief among which is cheering him up- nailing Pepper with the Go To Sleep after Sione flattened him with a huge bodyslam onto Chip behind Quincy’s back (‘Cutio distracted him by going for a chair).

Hearts of Ice vs. The Past Masters

This was an improvement over the last match but I was still disappointed, largely due to the Masters not delivering quite the way I’d hoped they would. They were alright, especially given that literally nobody in the audience knew who Sandman was, but that’s the best you can say and they clearly need more seasoning than I thought. As for Hearts of Ice, Ricky’s obscure and Ray’s momentum is ice cold at the moment but they did a good job here and I’ll work on rebuilding Ray’s push going forward (hey Stanley, I know how to get you back down to where I want you to be!). On the plus side the new gimmicks all went over well, and as I said this was a decent midcard bout that we can definitely come back to down the line. Sandman Winks got the win here, forcing Ray to tap out to the Deep Sleep.

The Aces of Mayhem vs. The Hot Taggs

Okay, this one was my mistake: I’d booked this to go 15 minutes when it should’ve gone 20 to allow for Max’s star power. That took away from what was otherwise a good match; these four are all at their best in tag matches and delivered good individual performances- if I’d got the timings right it would probably have come off as nearer main event level rather than the decent midcard reception it actually got. Ace is another guy I need to build up, right now he’s not as over as I’d like, and things weren’t helped when Wolfie botched a hip toss and nearly pulled Ace’s arm out of its socket. This one went to a time-limit draw, and on commentary we put over the fact that these two have yet to have a clean finish, speculating on what that would mean for the title match at Won’t Get Fooled Again.

We go to backstage, where Tavon is on hype duty ahead of the contender’s match.

 

“Once before we got in this ring with the Heavyweight Title on the line, Silencer, and I ran you as close as any man in this company ever has and I saw something then, at the end of the match. You were frightened of me, boy, you can deny it all you like but I saw the look in your eyes when you put me down, you didn’t believe I was gonna stay down ‘til it happened and even then you were real nervous. And now, now I got another shot at that belt and all of a sudden one of your boys from the Corps is in my way? That ain’t no coincidence, Cracker, that’s the man trying to hold a brother down ‘cos he’s scared as hell o’ him! Well, tough luck ‘cos when I’m done with that Noo Yawk meathead Dom DeGraff? I’m coming for that belt, and there ain’t nothin’ gonna stop me this time”

 

This was a great promo- Tavon’s rapidly become my top babyface and I used this to launch a new feud with The Silencer (yeah, we’ve still got the Wolfpack/NRC war but Blake deserves a programme of his own and it’s not like we can’t meld the two down the line).

Tavon Blake Jr. vs. Dominic DeGraff

This was a good match, but that’s almost entirely down to Tavon as he carried Dom most of the way. In fairness the chemistry was bad and Dom doesn’t have Blake’s native talent to make up for that, not to mention he can’t really handle 20-minute matches yet. Still, this was a good match overall thanks to Tavon busting his gut to make things work, and we also threw in some interference from The Silencer to further the storyline; Dom faked a knee tweak to distract Erin, Silencer hit the ring and nailed Blake with a thunderous chair shot. Of course Dom immediately dropped the pretence and went for a pin, only for Blake to kick out at two, and whilst Dom followed that up with a period of dominance it came to an end when Blake reversed an attempt at the Double Arm DDT into the Hangman’s Neckbreaker, picking up the win whilst a shocked Silencer looked on from ringside.

Roger Monteiro vs. The Masked Mauler VII vs. Remmy Honeyman vs. The Silencer

This was our best match ever, proving my old maxim that four-way main events always work when you don’t have a better idea. Of course, it helped that this featured four of our best workers that have featured in all the other four of our top five matches (well, three of them have, anyways). Rog is probably the weakest worker of the four- there’s a reason Tavon’s going after the belt now- but he’s more than capable of delivering with the right opponents and if Remmy, Mauler and Silencer aren’t the right opponents then I don’t know who is (well, actually I do but I don’t think I could afford David Stone these days). Mauler in particular has a title run in his future for certain- unless he gets snapped up by one of the big leagues, which is unlikely given our size, he will absolutely be a Rocky Mountain Heavyweight Champion within the next couple of years. ‘Til then, though, we’re still riding with The Silencer, who took the win here with a Drop Zone on Roger (a nice touch that neatly cleared the stage for Tavon and I didn’t even plan for that- I love our roadies).

Got rid of Prime Time Jack Pryde today; the guy’s been on form at best once since he started working for us and I got fed up of dealing with a supposed prospect who I couldn’t rely on in the ring- plus the injury drama from him and Stanley was getting on my nerves. On the plus side, Steve was dumb and let one of his youngsters walk out of NYCW so I’ve snapped him up as Jack’s replacement:

 

 

Chuck Casey

Age: 21 Billed From: Brooklyn, New York

Entrance Theme: Bully- Shinedown

Finisher: Belly-to-Back Suplex

Character: Chuck’s a thuggish heel, a nasty piece of work who’s in wrestling just to beat people up.

Evaluation: When Chuck was born, I’d been working with NOTBPW for a year; that makes me feel old. Still, leaving aside how appallingly youthful he is Chuck’s a very promising young talent who’s basically a younger Dom DeGraff; both are straight-ahead brawlers, though Casey’s got a little more finesse to his work and is blessed with stronger intangibles. All in all, therefore, he’s a very promising young rookie, especially when you consider that we can bring in his brother down the line to beef up the tag division.

Had a proper look at the financials for the first time in a while (we have an accountant, they can tell me if there’s something I actually have to do). We’ve run at a profit for the most part but lost nearly 500 bucks in April as I threw some bonuses around to try and resolve Mercutio’s morale issues. Still, we started the year with 45,000 dollars in the bank and currently stand at around 49,000 dollars so that’s not an issue I need to worry about for now.

Josh Taylor has left TCW to go elsewhere. Fortunately it was USPW, which is allowed in the Dansigny household; I don’t want to imagine what would happen if Gracie’s current favourite crush/wrestler had gone to Supreme and she was banned from watching him. Never get between a teenage girl and her favourite sportspeople, I learnt that lesson in the great Canucks/Golden Knights debacle of 2019. Thank god Hanson prefers basketball and lucha libre; we can all get behind the Trail Blazers and EMLL is the most insanely entertaining thing to come out of Mexico ever. Seriously, how did nobody ever think to meld wrestling and Jack Kirby artwork before? Bandido, you have my respect (not that we’ll probably ever meet but hey, still true).

We now rank as the 33rd biggest promotion in the world, ahead of SNP (some Scottish carnyland B.S.), CWW (British catch wrestling, love it but I give it maybe 2 years before they go under) and ZEN: Art of Wrestling (…yeah, I’m not even gonna try). Not sure which one we overtook but I really hope it’s SNP. Also, we’re the only independent promotion in the US not on Wrestleworld- literally, the only one.

TCW rose to Big sized. Good on them, hopefully this marks the start of their comeback trail to the number two spot in America. Hopefully they won’t poach any of our talent, though given the way these things go I’d be surprised if we’re even on their radar- Wyoming isn’t that far from San Antonio but we’re pretty small time. Maybe Tavon or Max might go but that’d be down to GSW rather than us and I wouldn’t call it likely anyways- Max is breaking down pretty bad and Tavon’s chubbed out just recently and probably isn’t what BriCo would consider ‘TV-worthy’

Remmy Honeyman vs. Chuck Casey

I’m going to have to be careful with my booking now Wrestleworld is a thing- nearly three quarters of my roster are now stars and that could get difficult to control- but if it puts a bunch of new guys in the audience then I can put up with it, especially with Remmy continuing to deliver. The main concern I’ve got is that guys like Remmy and Silencer will be sidelined by the fans in favour of other company’s guys like Stan Axis or The Past Masters that I don’t have big plans for, but hopefully Remmy’s performance will make him hard to sideline; on the evidence of this one that’s fairly likely. As for Chuck, going 20 minutes is difficult for him and his gimmick, whilst okay (and very merch-friendly), didn’t come off well enough to compensate so he didn’t look great. On the plus side, he was on his game so he’s already doing better than Jack. Give it time and I’m sure Chuck will come good but for now he can eat losses like this one, as Remmy tied him up with the Honeyman Special to secure the pinfall.

It’s promo time, as we hear from Haley Buck ahead of the main event whilst The Silencer looms menacingly in the background.

 

“A lot of people are saying that The Silencer, the cerebral strongman, the deadliest wrestler in the world is scared of fighting Tavon Blake Junior. That’s not true. A lot of people are saying that Tavon Blake is going to win the Rocky Mountain Heavyweight Championship tonight. THAT WILL NOT HAPPEN! Do you understand! I won’t stand here and have it said that The Silencer’s afraid of anyone, especially not some punk-ass warehouse jockey! We’re not frightened, you understand? He’s the one who should be frightened, not us, ‘cos you know what No Remorse Corps is gonna do to him? We’re gonna obliterate him, you’ll know what fear is then, I can promise you that!”

 

Okay, this was great- Haley’s got her gimmick over like few I’ve ever seen, we’re talking legendary stuff, and with a decent script to follow she absolutely nailed this one.

Ace Youngblood vs. Dominic DeGraff vs. Stanley Axis

This wasn’t bad but definitely felt like a stepdown from the opener, despite Stan’s alleged increased name value. Probably that’s because none of these guys are actually all that great- Stan’s boring as hell, Dom’s still learning his craft and Ace is a tag team specialist who looks a little lost in singles action- but whatever, it was still good enough to be going on with and I don’t need the midcard to be great anyways. Ace took the win here- Dom put Stanley down with the Double Arm DDT but then turned his attention to Ace, trying to put down his major foe as well. Of course that didn’t work out- Ace tossed him out of the ring and then hit a recovering Stanley with the Flying Tomahawk Chop to get the win.

Max Mayhem & Young and Fearless vs. Ray Snow & The Hot Taggs

We put this over on commentary as a chance for scouting and warmup for Max and The Taggs ahead of their encounter next month for the belts, but in truth it was more about getting everyone out there and rebuilding Ray’s momentum as anything else. It was a surprisingly good match- Max is another one who’s GSW work on Wrestleworld is getting him over but that’s not so bad as it helps compensate for his declining physicality, and the others all range from pretty decent to genuinely good. Pep was probably the worst performer here but to be fair he was off his game, and even then compared to where he started from he’s doing a good job improving and getting over. The Taggs, on the other hand, have kind of plateau’d and aren’t developing the way I would like them to- they’re doing okay but I need to see more if they’re going to stay at the top of the card. They still got the win, though (they are in No Remorse Corps and maybe some more name value would help) as Wolfie put Max on the mat with the Mafia Kick whilst Ray and Kaler kept Young and Fearless from breaking the fall.

Roger Monteiro vs. Ricky Turner vs. The Masked Mauler VII

Okay, so maybe I’m worrying too much about Wrestleworld- this match featured three RMW-exclusive talent and was still the best match on the card so far. It helped that they’re, respectively, our joint number two babyface (Remmy’s got the edge in workrate but Roger’s got the charisma), our number two heel (yeah, I said it, Mauler’s the number two guy now) and Ricky, who’s still getting over but is definitely our midcard workhorse of the future, if he isn’t already. There weren’t even any obvious negatives I could point to here, other than the aforementioned lack of overness from Ricky (he’s definitely been overused this show but I don’t really care). Roger took the win here- Mauler had nailed him with the Piledriver but was distracted when Remmy came out from backstage, allowing Monteiro to hit his comeback dropkick on Ricky Turner and go for the Phoenix Splash before Mauler could turn his attention back to the ring.

It’s promo time again, as Mercutio Sleep and Sione Tokoeka head to ringside with a mic.

 

“You know, it seems to me that all there is between Me and Sione and those Tag Team Titles? Is three teams and we can beat all’a them. Past Masters, you’re first up and boys, you’re really not gonna have a good day. I know, heck, everybody knows about how good you are, I’ve seen all the tapes on the Deep Sleep and I’ve lost count of how many guys have gone down to that thing, and The Historian pulls out moves I haven’t seen in years! But there’s one thing you boys got to adjust to, and that’s…let’s call it luck. You see, guys like me and Sione here, we make our own…luck, and it’s never run dry yet. So you better make sure to find another booking for Won’t Get Fooled Again, cos Sandman, Historian? I wouldn’t worry about the title match.”

 

Mercutio did another good job on the mic tonight, and whilst Sione’s too over for my taste (the only real Wrestleworld-related issue I’ve had, he’s not ready to be a star) he does a good job providing bulk and menace to back Sleep up.

The Bad Guys vs. The Past Masters

This was another good match, and whilst I’m still concerned about roster control issues vis-à-vis Wrestleworld it’s clear that we should be able to manage it for the most part; the top performers on the roster are still either RMW-exclusive or might as well be. Take Mercutio for example; despite some early apathy he’s wormed his way into the booking plans and outperformed all of the other three guys in this match despite being way off his game. As for the others, Sandman lagged behind but doesn’t seem to have the same boost the others have of late, and whilst Sione isn’t ready for stardom despite his name value I’m more than happy to see him continue to deliver in the ring and improve and Historian’s great as both a worker and a character and feels tailor-made for RMW anyway. Not that he won tonight; Mercutio hit him with a handful of powder and then the Go To Sleep to secure the win and go through to the Tag Team Title Tripe Threat.

We cut to backstage to see Tavon Blake making his way towards the ring for tonight’s main event only to be blindsided by The Hot Taggs, who come out of nowhere to lay a beat down on the challenger. Blake tries to fight back as best he can but the bruisers of No Remorse Corps have the advantage and savagely lay into him, eventually laying him out with a Montana Slammer onto a pile of haybales.

 

This went over like gangbusters- building anything around the Taggs ability to fight and Blakey’s selling always works.

Tavon Blake Jr. vs. The Silencer

I know I’ve talked a lot this show about Wrestleworld exposure but it’s got the potential to be a game-changer for us and I need to get the measure of its impact thus far; on the whole, despite my reservations I’d say it hasn’t been too bad for us. The guys I want to build around continue to justify their pushes, guys I like have benefitted from extra exposure and nobody’s in a position I don’t want them in that I can’t adjust. Also, Tavon’s now not only our top babyface but probably our franchise player, which I can definitely deal with; we don’t really do figureheads at this level but I can’t think of a company that was built around a black guy before, maybe Supreme in the Steve Frehley days but I’m not sure and they barely count as a wrestling company anyways. As for Silencer, he held up his end of the bargain more than capably and remains our top heel, though we are at last starting to develop some depth behind him with Mauler and Sleep starting to come through and Sione looking good too for his experience level. Silencer took the win here, with the first dirty finish of his title reign; Tavon had him lined up for the Hangman’s Neckbreaker when Haley leapt up on the apron, distracting Erin long enough for Dom DeGraff to hit the ring and then Tavon with a chair shot to the gut and a Double Arm DDT. Silencer quickly went for the pin and retained the championship but it was clear by the speed with which he high tailed it that Tavon had got to him.

Winner: The Silencer Match Rating: 42

 

 

Overall Rating: 36, our best show yet and that’s with Chuck and Ricky’s overusage. Plaudits go to Mauler and Ace whilst we make a point of praising Silencer’s greatness, he’s been a brilliant champ for us.
