bobinc
Early Notes: The pics I took are big so be ready. This is just a simple tutorial so don't come telling me about every little thing I may have missed this is for anyone who has not used gimp and/or is looking to make their own TEW cuts. I have also added this to www.bobinc.net but it is trimmed down slightly and has additional tips. Things Needed: The Pic You Want To Cut The Background To Put It On Program Gimp (Download Place Here) THE START First thing to do is open Gimp. Then once open you want open your picture and your background. Your next step is to resize the windows to your liking I suggest putting the background behind your other pic as you will see in other pics. Once that is done you will want to make the selection of what you want included in your TEW final cut. (Just head or head and chest or part of an arm ect..) Start by selecting the square selection tool Then select your area (I suggest keeping it square as it will help minimize deformation when resizing, you can tell if its square by the numbers on the bottom of the pic window) (The Reason for making your selection early is with it selected you can only edit what is in the selection making it easy to erase so you dont have to do the whole image.) You are then going to want to add a transparent background to your pic so it erases to clear instead of a color. To do that you select "Layer-Transparency-Add Alpha Channel" Now you are ready to erase. Select the eraser tool and pick your tool size then do a rough erase of large background spots. Eraser Tool Size selection Rough Erase Then you are going to want to zoom in which is located at the bottom by where you seen the selection box size numbers. depending on the original size of the pic determines how much you have to zoom. for this pic I went to 400% Zoom In: Zoomed View: From here you are going to want to erase up to your figure. Go all the way around and get what you can. You may have to pic a smaller sized erase tool for smaller spots. Once done it should look as follows (zoomed back to 100%): Your next step is a resize or Scale as Gimp calls it. (make sure you dont lose your selection through the whole process.) To do your resize you want to select "Tools-Transform-Scale" This brings up a little window: You will notice the numbers are the numbers of your selection size. (should be in pixels "px") you want to change them to 150x150 this will make you pic the correct size for a tew background. Finished: You then want to select "Edit-Copy" this will copy your resized selection to the clipboard. You then want to select the window that has your background in it. Then select "Edit-Paste" You can then close your original pic if you think it turned out ok at this point. You then want to save your image as a .jpg as this is the image type used by TEW. Then Pick the save location: Note that the name has to end in ".jpg" Pick Export when this comes up: I always move it to 100 for quality then click ok: Then if you plan on making more then select "Edit-Undo Paste" this will remove your resized pic from the background making it ready for another pic. Then repeat the process again after opening another pic to cut. End Notes: KYKY Background: As has been said by myself and others, not every pic works. if it is blurry or smaller then 150x150 it may distort the pics. A blurry pic is a blurry pic there is not much you can do unless you try to touch up the whole pic. If it is smaller then 150x150 then it will have to strech the image and this will make them pixelated or streched out. You can also access all of the top menu options by right clicking in the picture. I hope that this helps those of you who have been struggling or looking for a way to cut pics or just wonder how the gimp program works. There are a lot more options in the program but this is just Basic Pic Cutting 101. BOBINC

I find this real easy to use too. But I was and still am using photoshop cs also.

bobinc
Need to make sure you are selecting a perfect square that helps minimize strech and squish pics. I know its hard sometimes because some pics are not large enough to do so.
bestbitter
Like I said I just had a quick go and the Austin picture was quite small. Thanks for the backgrounds and advice. Gonna have another go now!!

bobinc
that one is better you just need to get a little closer to his left side. Has that white line going down his side.
