Levinux
I didn't get to enjoy AWA when they were active as I was too young and my Dad was a WCW guy. So, I love when someone tackles AWA. Look forward to seeing where you go with this.
tobin834
Levinux - Thank you for the kind words, I really appreciate it. Actually truth be told I wasn't in on the first AWA either, but I really like doing research about pro wrestling and have used this as an outlet to write about what I find as well. Most of this story has to deal with who I think would have been in place to run it after Gagne based on real life relationships (that I think I know a bit about). Thank you again! Pipers Pit
Very interesting concept. Verne selling the AWA rights to his Son in Law makes alot of sense.
tobin834
Thank you. I am trying to research/learn more about the AWA and at the same time trying to play out what I think MIGHT HAVE happened, or maybe had a chance of happening. Also incorporated obviously is TEW gameplay that dramatically shifts where this will go I'm sure. Appreciate your comments
kanegan
I am really enjoying this. Interesting to know about the AWA and to see how they would have done if they survived.
tobin834
I appreciate the comments. I am going to see where this ends up, haha. Trying to release an update to the story every 2-3 days should make it seem fairly consistent and not drag me out and still make it fun <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Lord Byron
What date was episode 001 in February (or March) of 1997? Good so far; wondering where this is going...
tobin834
@LEOTHELION - I appreciate the comments. This is a hybrid attempt at trying to continue the AWA how I think it "kinda" would have went, and also letting the game factor in a different direction - which I think it has. Thank you for the kind words, honored to have your attention. @LORDBYRON - I think one advantage of doing this in Wix is my ability to change/remove/add content on the fly. When you alerted me of that, I immediately put the date in. Just for your reference so you don't have to look again, AWA All Star Wrestling #001 took place on Tuesday Week 3, February 1997 in front of 746 fans. Thank you for your kind words as well. I am also wondering where this is going - I'm finding quickly the game is going to have a lot of influence in that direction I think. horseman4lyfe
keeping an eye on this one. I think AWA had a chance to be big, if Vince had not raided the talent and if Verne would have changed with the times. Always wandered what could have been. Also Mr. Hughes could be a monster especially with Paul Ellering being the mouth piece and brains.
tobin834
@horseman4lyfe - Thank you for your comments and reading. Your opinion on the Ellering/Hughes thing makes me happy <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Honestly, he was one of the big men I could get for the price I wanted, and I've always liked his character. Paul Ellering's inclusion was to his AWA days and I think it wouldn't be that far of a stretch to see him (not with Road Warriors anymore in 1997 to make a phone call.) Most of this journal is me researching all of this stuff and needing a reason to share it with someone, hahaa
Lord Byron
Verne should have realized that times were changing; if he had, he might have held on even after Hogan left (and, frankly, I can't blame Hogan for leaving--if Vince was offering more money than Verne (and not demanding as large a share of Hogan's merch as Verne), he had good reason to). Verne really dropped the ball with Hogan, IMO, and it set the stage for what was to come...
tobin834
@LORD BYRON - I agree. I think Verne's inability to see the change, and Vince's aggressiveness led to the demise. From what I read in my research, Verne didn't appreciate the showmanship of professional wrestling - something he saw Hogan as the poster child for. kanegan
Dan Severn could be big for you if you manage to hold him on. Good work so far. Enjoying this version of AWA.

Lord Byron
Where was the first TV taping held? Good update, and I hope Severn does well--he deserved better than what he got IRL but, to be fair, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin was hot, and so were the Rock, Triple H, etc., and there's only so much room at the top for stars in the WWF... If the AWA lasts long enough, I could see a certain Phil Brooks (among others) joining them...
tobin834
@KANEGAN - I appreciate your feedback, thank you. These comments from all of you keep me so motivated to do more. Also, I agree with you on Dan Severn, a tough SOB back in the day I think he was under appreciated back in the day. @1PWFAN - Thank you for your feedback, and I am glad you're enjoying it. I thought it would be fun to learn about the AWA, let GDS kind of determine where it goes in a way, and try to keep it what I think may have (kind of) realistically happened. @LORDBYRON - Because of your feedback I have put in a spot at the top to describe location. Thank you for this question as it made me realize I overlooked an important part. I appreciate you for that. Big fan of Severn myself, like his look and seriousness for the AWA that he brings. Punk would have looked cool in an AWA ring, I agree with that.
