Mr. Lucha III def. Nelson Callum

Kalu Owusu def. Yasuhide Tayama

Tigre Salvaje Jr def. Captain Lucha

Ernest Youngman def. Frankie Perez

It's a real testament to this season how tough all these predictions are

Mr. Lucha III vs. Nelson Callum- Sorry Nelson, no redemption for you this season.

Apollo Prince vs. Masked Cougar- Sorry Cougar, see what I just said to Nelson.

Kalu Owusu vs. Yasuhide Tayama- Tayama puts an exclamation point on his comeback and pulls himself out of the playoffs.

Captain Lucha vs. Tigre Salvaje Jr- Tigre's gonna be the first to pull back some of his momentum, and the good Captain has a playoff match to prepare for.

Ernest Youngman vs. Frankie Perez- Frankie's been the undisputed king of the league since it began, but now there's a new big boss character in town, and I don't think Frankie's winning the boss fight on his first attempt.

Darn, Mr. Lucha III just had to win his match and ruin my perfect score. Unfortunate.

Apparently I got 20 points again for my preseason predictions this time, which I feel is kind of interesting because I feel I did a lot better as a whole last season. Apparently 2 guys right (Owusu and Salvaje) and 3 more almost right (Cougar, Perez and Youngman) pulled me through enough to deal with the 5 others all off by 3-4 placings.

Congrats to Perez on being the champ again and first 2x winner.

The Valiant Tournament should be a fun change of pace and also a nice way to see some of the other wrestlers you have on the books.

Interesting you scored exactly the same as last time. Sets the standard for next time!

The Valiant Tournament is going to be just that - there's a few new faces to freshen things up before the fourth season.

Well... well... well... well. well. What can I say DinoKea? Must have been nice for you to be in the first place momentarily but hopefully you didn't get used to it ;)

Awesome last show. It's impressive that even though the top 2 was effectively decided ages ago, and the automatic relegation was already determined going into that show it still felt like there were a lot of high stakes not just in the main event. And yet again as someone who really rarely reads long match write ups I've become accustomed to fully appreciating your longer main events and this might have been the best yet. I also agree that the Valiant tournament sounds like a nice change.

Captain Lucha vs. Mr. Lucha III Would be a strange but entirely possible turn of events for Mr Lucha III to win the tournament whilst also not being in the next league.

Apollo Prince & Gram Gorman vs. Masked Cougar & Tigre Salvaje Jr We'll surely get the Apollogy even just as an excuse to use the pun again.

Ernest Youngman & Konrad Makinen vs. SUKI & Tsuneyo Yanagimoto

Valiant Tournament Contenders (TBD) vs. Valiant Tournament Contenders (TBD)

Obviously this is impossible to pick, but I'll give a point if you can guess one of the 4 competitors. FALSE. It's going to be the left team. My pick... how long can you realistically hold shows in Europe and resist the temptation to bring in Bret Heartbreak.

Frankie Perez © vs. Kalu Owusu Obviously Kalu is well liked, by myself too, but deep down I think maybe the title is above his ceiling. I won't be disappointed if he proves me wrong though.

Thanks! I try to make the character relationships strong enough to give stakes when the League is already decided because, like in real life sports leagues, the last few rounds can drift a bit if you know more or less where everyone's going to finish.

Like you, I'm not a big fan of reading lengthy write ups, so when I write the main event matches, I make sure they're something I'd be happy reading - so no big walls of text! Commentary is a great tool for breaking it up and helping it flow. I'm glad you enjoy reading them!

Predictions this round

humph: 5/5 - well done on guessing Hercules Johansson!

DinoKea: 4/5 - Mimic is in the tournament, but he wasn't one of the 4 men in the match.

christmas_ape: 3/5 - No Bret Heartbreak, I'm afraid, although that doesn't mean he'll never work for PWL.

Predictions Competition Results

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who predicted, even if it was just one show. And to those who predicted every show (or nearly every show!) you are my heroes and I really appreciate your comments every time.

As per the rules of the competition, you must have predicted a minimum of 50% of the shows. That means there are 5 people in contention: Aura, Herrbear, humph, DinoKea and christmas_ape.

Your overall score is based on your show predictions percentage AND the League winner prediction which can get you 10 points for a correct pick or 5 points for your backup pick. If you didn't pick a winner, I'm afraid you'll miss out on these points - make sure to get your winner in for the next competition!

As I was writing out the results, I realised the winner predictions have a different impact based on how many show you've predicted. If you predict every show, the 10 points available has much less of an impact on your final % than if you only predict half the shows. This could make it unfair. As it turns out, I don't think it made much of a difference to the winner this time, but in the next competition I'll make it so the points you get for a winner prediction is proportional to how many shows you predicted.

I posted a couple of weeks ago about the change to the prize. The winner of the predictions competition gets to choose one PWL wrestler to appear on Joanne Rodriguez's Behind the Curtain podcast for an in-depth interview. I would ask you to choose a regularly appearing wrestler (so not Manuel Dias, for example) and you cannot pick Nelson Callum, because it wouldn't make sense for him to appear on J-Ro's show (gotta keep kayfabe alive!)

So here are the results!

5th Place - Herrbear

Show predictions: 26/36 = 72%

Winner prediction: (none) 0/10 = 0%

Total: 26/46 = 57%

4th Place - Aura

Show predictions: 20/24 = 83%

Winner prediction: (none) 0/10 = 0%

Total: 20/34 = 59%

3rd Place - DinoKea

Show predictions: 36/46 = 78%

Winner prediction: (1. Youngman 2. Owusu) 0/10 = 0%

Total: 36/56 = 64%

2nd Place - humph

Show predictions: 34/42 = 81%

Winner prediction: (1. Youngman 2. Owusu) 0/10 = 0%

Total: 34/52 = 65%

1st Place - christmas_ape

Show predictions: 37/46 = 80%

Winner prediction: (1. Perez 2. Youngman) 10/10 = 100%

Total: 47/56 = 84%

Congratulations christmas_ape! Your faith in Frankie Perez at the start of the season was rewarded and now you, like him, hold the gold! Let me know either on this thread or in private which PWL wrestler you would like to appear on Behind the Curtain.

Comiserations to Aura, Herrbear, DinoKea and humph. You all did great, but the winner prediction proved decisive this time! Once christmas_ape has decided who the podcast guest will be, I'll put out a call for fan questions to be included in the interview.

Once again, thanks everyone for taking part!

I took a few more gambles this season than normal and it didn't really pay off but I'm fine with that. I'll be honest, I knew my odds for predicting anyone competing in the Valiant Tournament match was low as I really don't know my C-Verse very well, so I just had to pick someone you had who might compete.

Of the Valiant Tournament members, Devilfish is probably the one I'm most interested in, but I'll definitely be interested to see what the new guys bring to the table.

With PWL Vengeance in the bag, it's time for the Valiant Tournament!

There will be a predictions competition, just like the League, in most part consisting of predictions for each show as well as the prediction winner.

Predicting the shows

- As always, a 50% commitment is required to enter the competition.

- Draws earn you a point no matter who you chose.

Predicting the tournament winner

- You have two picks - the first will get you maximum points, while the second will get you half points.

- The tournament winner pick counts for 25% of your overall score instead of being a fixed number of points.

Explanation (for those who care)This removes the imbalance from having a fixed number of points. Imagine Predictor A gets 10/20 (50%) from regular show predictions, and predicts the winner of the League/Tournament correctly. Meanwhile Predictor B gets 20/40 from regular show predictions and also predicts the winner of the League/Tournament.

The previous way of awarding 10 points means Predictor A would get a final score of 20/30 (66.7%) while Predictor B would get 30/50 (60%). Despite predicting the same amount correctly, Predictor A wins.

In this new way, the number of points awarded for predicting the League/Tournament winner is 25% of the number of regular match predictions.

For Predictor A, who got 10/20, this means 25% of 20 = 5 points. They then finish with 15/25 = 60%

Predictor B, who got 20/40, will receive 25% of 50 = 10 points. They finish with 30/50 = 60%

Of course, the scores are rarely nice round numbers like the ones I've chosen, so rounding to the nearest integer should be enough to separate everyone. For example if someone gets 43/57 and their second pick wins the League/Tournament, they get half of 25% of 57 = 7 (rounded from 7.125), making their total score 50/64 = 78% (rounded from 78.125)

Winning

The winner of the predictions competition gets to pick a PWL wrestler to have an in-depth interview on Joanne Rodriguez's Behind the Curtain podcast.

Everyone who predicts 50% or more, will be able to submit a question to that wrestler as part of the interview (like an Ask Me Anything).

Please make sure you get your winner predictions in before the second night of the tournament, else it will not count. That show will be posted on Friday 19th in the morning (European time), so to be sure, get your predictions in on the Thursday!

I did see the show posted a coupe days ago but been waiting till I had the time to read it properly. Another top show. I do in general like the show schedule it's like having a double show finale in a way with the ending of the league being before the season finale with the title match.

For my prize I'll go with Ernest Youngman. Part of me doesn't want to break the aura of him being quite mysterious but it's that very fact that also makes me want to hear more from him!

Damn I screwed up both not getting predictions in on time or picking the overall winner last week!

I don't think I should be eligible for the points but I'm going to go...

1st Konrad 2nd Kal I'm not sure who Youngman will lose to but I fancy going for a surprise.

As for a question if I'm not too late...

How are you finding Spain?

If not you, who would your money be on to win the tournament?
