Wednesday, Week 3, April 2023

MAIN EVENT

Light Heavyweight Bout: "The All American" Chris Weidman (15-6, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Favorite: -1140) vs. Johny "Bigg Rigg" Hendricks (22-10, 4-2 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Underdog: +910)

Two veterans of the fight game clash in the coach fight of Way of the Warrior, Season 1! Chris Weidman is an All-American Wrestler, with excellent takedowns, and good submission attacks. He has some striking skill, but will likely look to take this to the ground. Weidman makes his CTC debut, having lost three of his last four fights, and coming off a Unanimous Decision loss to Robert Whittaker at UFC Fight Night: Volkanovski vs. Zabit in February 2021. Johny Hendricks has an entirely different use for his All-American wrestling skills, using his skill to defend takedowns, and keep the fight standing, where he unloads massive KO bombs. Hendricks has been with CTC from the beginning, and in his last fight, had a three fight win streak broken, when he was knocked out by Israel Adesanya in Adesanya's only fight in the CTC.

CO-MAIN EVENT

CTC Way of the Warrior Season 1 Finale Flyweight Bout: Mikel "Deadly Knees" Belan (0-0, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Favorite: -440) vs. Quint Guillemot (0-0, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Underdog: +350)

The long awaited finale of the first season of Way of the Warrior! Mikel Belan is a strong Jiu-Jitsu player, with good takedown defense, and excellent submissions, but is lacking in the striking department. Belan submitted Ramond Dorin, Michel Braud, and the highly favored Loyal Gorbeil to make it to the finale! Quint Guillemot was without a doubt the breakaway star of the season, and the crowd favorite. With a combination of decent wrestling and takedown defence, and the ability to throw big bombs! Guillemot won a Unanimous Decision over Telesphore Marcoux, knocked out Christofor Bordon, and knocked out Beavis Cler to get to the finale.

MAIN CARD

Flyweight Bout: "Wrestling Machine" Bevis Cler (0-0, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Favorite: -350) vs. "Straight Shooter" L'angley De Grace (0-0, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Underdog: +270)

Beavis Cler was a competitor in the Way of the Warrior tournament. Aptly nicknamed "Wrestling Machine" he is a high level wrestler, who likes to get takedowns, get on top, and rain down ground and pound on opponents. Cler won a Unanimous Decision over Fiorenzo Martsolf, then submitted L'Angley De Grace, before being knocked out by Quint Guillemot in the Semi-Final. L'Angley De Grace has some massive holes in his game, with no wrestling or ground game, but if he gets to you on the feet, he can do a lot of damage with his high powered boxing game. De Grace knocked out Mylon Malveaux in the opening round, before being submitted by Bevis Cler in the Quarter-Finals. This will be a grudge match from the Quarter-Finals!

Flyweight Bout: "The Canadian Destroyer" Loyal Gobeil (0-0, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Favorite: -290) vs. Sanya Rogus (4-2, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Underdog: +230)

Loyal Gobeil was one of the favorites to win the tournament going into the season, a high level grappler, with good control, and submissions. He won a Unanimous Decision over Colombina Holveck in the Opening Round, and submitted Augustin Carreau in the Quarter-Finals, before being submitted by Mikkel Belan in the Semi-Finals. Sanya Rogus is a striker, but knows enough wrestling to keep the fight standing in order to unleash his technical boxing, and powerful head kicks. He broke a three fight winning streak in his last fight, when he was submitted by Heller Lotspeich in an attempt to claim the Cage Warriors Flyweight Title.

Flyweight Bout: Christofor "The Little Corporal" Bordon (0-0, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Underdog: +740) vs. Themba Mkhize (6-3, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Favorite: -930)

Christofor Bordon is a high level kickboxer, with a technically sound kicking game, with some power. He actually has pretty good takedowns, but has no idea what to do once he gets to the ground. He knocked out Grenville Cavalier in the Opening Round, before being knocked out by Quint Guillemot in the Quarter-Finals. Themba Mkhize is a high level kickboxer, with powerful boxing, and some damaging leg kicks. He actually also has some decent takedowns, and some submission skill. He is on a two fight winning streak, and is coming off a Split Decision victory over Jamie Alvarez in ONE Championship.

A fight between two women fighting for their jobs. Revelina Berto has enough power to knock people out, but has an extensive BJJ background, with good takedowns, and excellent submission skills. She is on a two fight losing streak against the best of the best of the division, being submitted by Felicia Spencer in a title fight, and coming off a knock out loss to Larissa Pacheco in her last fight. Genah Fabian is a decent Muay Thai striker, who has been working recently on her positional ground game. She has lost two fights in a row, and is coming off a TKO loss to Arlene Blencowe in her last fight.

Strawweight Bout: Sueh-yen Zhuang (7-0, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: #18, Favorite: -1200) vs. Kosuke "Rambo" Suzuki (14-13-3, 0-2 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Underdog: +950)

Sueh-yen Zhuang is a well rounded fighter, a world class muay thai striker, with good technical boxing, and a deadly powerful kicking game. He also has a highly underrated ground game, and deadly submissions. He has won seven straight fights on the Asian local scene, and makes his CTC debut tonight. Kosuke Suzuki is probably fighting for his job. He is a decent kickboxer, but has little game on the ground. He is on a two fight losing streak, and coming off a submission loss to Jenel Lausa in his last fight.

Flyweight Bout: Asu "Zulfikhar" Almabaev (15-5, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Underdog: +550) vs. Marcel Adur (17-5, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Favorite: -690)

Asu Almabaev is a BJJ player, with excellent ground game and submissions, and a good technical striking game. He is on a two fight win streak in Fight Nights Global, and is coming off a Unanimous Decision victory over Marek Murin. Marcel Adur is a Muay Thai striker with technical boxing, and powerful high kicks. He also has good takedown defence, and sweeps if he does get to the ground. He is on a two fight winning streak, nd is coming off a second round TKO victory over Pedro Nobre in Brave CF.

Womens Strawweight Bout: Iman Darabi (9-3, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Favorite: -390) vs. Kseniya "The Tigress" Lachkova (12-5, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Underdog: +310)

A fight between two CTC debutants. Iman Darabi is a kickboxer, with good takedown defence, that allows her to keep the fight standing, where she can unleash powerful punches, and a highly technical kicking game. She is on a six fight winning streak, and is coming off a first round knock out of Takako Sekine in LFA. Kseniya Lachkova is a striker, with a technical, elusive boxing game, and powerful high kicks. If taken to the ground, she has decent control from the bottom, and an underrated submission game. She is coming off a a first round submission loss to Nong Stamp in a title fight in ONE Championship.

Featherweight Bout: Alexandre "Capitao" Almeida (23-10, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Underdog: +230) vs. Lucas "Skywalker" Brennan (5-1, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Favorite: -290)

Another battle between CTC debutants, at opposite ends of their careers. Alexandre Almeida is a very experienced fighter, a BJJ player, with KO punches, but little striking skill. He has good takedowns, and a strong submission game. In his last fight he TKOed Rafael Bueno in the third round to win the Jungle Fight Featherweight Title. Lucas Brennan is also a BJJ player, with a gameplan of getting the fight to the ground, and keeping it there. He can control opponents, and has an excellent submission attack. He has won two straight fights, and is coming off a Unanimous Decision victory over Teodor Nikolov in Bellator.

Welterweight Bout: Khaos "The Ox Fighter" Williams (12-2, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Favorite: -620) vs. Sam Boult (10-4, 1-2 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Underdog: +490)

Khaos Williams is a vicious striker, who likes to keep the fight on the feet, and unleash a crisp, powerful boxing game, and dangerous leg kicks. If the fight does get to the ground, he can unleash vicious ground and pound from on top. He is on a two fight winning streak, and is coming off a first round knock out victory over Christian Aguilera in the UFC. Sam Boult comes from a background in freestyle wrestling, but is well rounded, with a dangerous and powerful striking game, and deadly submissions on the ground. He is on a two fight losing streak, and is coming off a knock out loss to Ismail Naurdiev in his last fight.

MAIN EVENT

CTC Womens Strawweight Title Bout: "Thug" Rose Namajunas © (14-4, 5-0 CTC, CTC Rank: #1, Favorite: -950) vs. Nadia "187" Kassem (11-3, 6-1 CTC, CTC Rank: #10, Underdog: +750)

A Jiu Jitsu black belt, who is also a high level striker, Rose Namajunas is dangerous in every area of the fight. A crisp, and powerful striker, she also has great takedown defence, and a deadly rear naked choke. Thug steamrolled her way through five women to win the Womens Strawweight Title Tournament, including a victory over her opponent tonight, Nadia Kassem in the Semi-Final, before TKOing Natalia Silva in the Final to win the title in less than 2 minutes. Nadia Kassem has done very well early in her CTC career, with her only loss to Rose Namajunas in the Semi-Finals of the Womens Strawweight Championship Tournament. A wrecking ball of a striker, with good power, and good takedown defence. Since her loss to Namajunas, she has won three straight fights, knocking out Tecia Torres, and TKOing Svetlana Gotsyk, and Natalia Silva to win the Womens Strawweight #1 Contender Tournament, and earn her rematch with Rose tonight.

CO-MAIN EVENT

CTC Season 1 Welterweight Tournament Final Bout: Vicente "Silent Assassin" Luque (28-7-1, 2-0 CTC, CTC Rank: #2, Favorite: -300) vs. Logan "Storm" Storley (19-0, 2-0 CTC, CTC Rank: #5, Underdog: +250)

A battle between former UFC and Bellator Welterweight Champions, with a title shot against CTC Welterweight Champion Rory MacDonald on the line! Vicente Luque, a former UFC Welterweight Champion, with two defences under his belt when he defected to the CTC, entered the Season 1 Welterweight Tournament as a hot favorite, and has live up to the hype so far, using his high level Muay Thai striking skills to obliterate Krystian Kaszubowski with a knock out knee, and defeat Abubakar Vagaev with a body kick TKO, to make it to the final. Logan Storley has just won the Bellator Welterweight title when he defected to the CTC, and has used his superior grappling skills to grind out Unanimous Decision victories over former UFC stars Neil Magny, and Sean Brady to reach the finals.

MAIN CARD

CTC Season 1 Featherweight Tournament Final Bout: Yusup "Borz" Raisov (25-2, 3-0 CTC, CTC Rank: #7, Favorite: -550) vs. Aaron Pico (12-3, 2-0 CTC, CTC Rank: #11, Underdog: +430)

When the brackets for the Featherweight Tournament were first released, there were definately bigger names in the sport than these two in the bracket, but both have made their way here, looking to win a shot at a title, against UFC Featherweight Champion Magomed Yunusilau! Yusup Raisov is a master of the Russian art of Combat Sambo, a fantastic grappler, with a quick shot, and strong clinch game. He is very at home on the ground, and has one of the best guard passing games in the sport. He ground out Unanimous Decision victories over Jeremy Kennedy, and Ilia Topuria to get to the final. Aaron Pico made a name for himself in Bellator before heading to the CTC, and is known to be mentally strong in big game moments. A high level boxer, with a decent kicking game, he is also a strong wrestler, with good takedown defence, decent submission skills, and is very tough to submit. He TKOed Chase Hooper, and won a Unanimous Decision over Calvin Kattar to get to the final.

CTC Season 1 Womens Flyweight Tournament Final Bout: Montana de la Rosa (15-6, 2-0 CTC, CTC Rank: #2, Favorite: -400) vs. Lucie "Bullet" Pudilova (12-7, 3-0 CTC, CTC Rank: #6, Underdog: +300)

The final of a bracket featuring some of the best up and coming talent in the Flyweight Division, many of whom cut their teeth in the UFC, before moving on to the CTC. Montana de la Rosa has a decent technical striking game that lacks power, but generally likes to get fights to the ground, where her high level wrestling, and BJJ skills give her a decided advantage. She submitted Sabina Mazo, and won a Unanimous Decision over Ariane Lipski to get to the final. Since coming into the CTC having lost five of her last six fights, in the UFC, and OKTAGON, Lucie Pudilova has done nothing but impress. Given the calibre of talent she had to face in this bracket, I don't think anyone expected Lucie to be here. Pudilova is a devastating striker, with good takedown defence, and some decent grappling if she does end up on the ground, but has scored wins over highly touted fighters, Miranda Maverick (by TKO), and Maycee Barber (Unanimous Decision), to get to the final!

CTC Season 1 Womens Atomweight Tournament Final Bout: Herica Tiburcio (16-7, 5-2 CTC, CTC Rank: #2, Favorite: -600) vs. Cosimo "Power Broker" Criscione (5-0, 3-0 CTC, CTC Rank: #13, Underdog: +470)

The winner of this bracket will earn a title shot against CTC Womens Atomweight Champion Ayaka Hamasaki! Herica Tiburcio has been fighting at the top of the CTC's Womens Atomweight Division since it's inception, coming into this tournament off back-to-back losses, against future champion Ayaka Hamasaki in the Semi-Finals of the Atomweight Championship Tournament, and then against eventual #1 Contender Priscilla Gaol in the Quarter-Finals of the #1 Contender Bracket. She is not a great grappler, but is a jiu jitsu black belt with a high level wrestling, grappling, and submission game. She won Unanimous Decisions against Kyra Batara, and Grace Cleveland to get to the finals of this tournament. Cosimo Criscione was a relative unknown coming into this tournament, with three in three fights on her record, including a submission of Saori Ishioka in her CTC debut. Middleweight Bout: Markus "Maluko" Perez (18-5, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: #24, Underdog: +160) vs. Georgy "Knight" Kichigin (29-7, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Favorite: -210)

Two fighters make their debuts in the CTC! Markus Perez is a devastating striker, with a lot of creative, who loves to vary his powerful kicks. He is also an elusive submission threat, with some takedown skill, but his wrestling is a sore point. He is on a six fight winning streak, and coming off a second round TKO victory over Tim Williams that won him the LFA Middleweight Title. Georgy Kichigin is a competent striker, but wastes little time getting the fight to the ground. His takedown game is good, but he shines on top with his ability to advance position and hunt for submissions. He is on a two fight winning streak, and is coming off a second round knock out victory over Valery Myasnikov in ACA.

Heavyweight Bout: "Rabid Wolverine" Fadei Chernienko (5-2, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Favorite: -350) vs. Salimgiray "Tank" Rasulov (20-8, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Underdog: +270)

Fadei Chernienko is a world class Muay Thai, with a highly technical boxing game that lacks power, but devastatingly powerful kicks, and the ability to destroy opponent with knees and elbows from the Thai clinch. He has also greatly rounded his game, and is a strong submission threat, with good positional grappling, and top control. He had a three fight winning streak snapped in his last fight, a Split Decision loss to Yuliy Soroko in ACA. Salimgirey Rasulov is a veteran fighter from Russia, who is a mediocre striker at best, elusive on his feet, with good takedowns, and a decent submission game. He had a three fight winning streak snapped in his last fight, a first round submission loss to Rodrigo Nascimento in the UFC.

Womens Flyweight Bout: Emily "Spitfire" Whitmire (5-5, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: #18, Favorite: -420) vs. Brogan "Killer Bee" Walker-Sanchez (7-3, 1-2 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Underdog: +330)

Emily Whitmire, after an up and down career in the UFC, has come to the CTC looking for a fresh start. A skilled boxer, with excellent, elusive footwork, and some takedown defence. She is coming off a second round knock out loss to Valentina Shevchenko in the UFC. Brogan Walker-Sanchez isn't much of a striker, but will look to get the fight to the ground, where she can control opponents, and look for submissions. She is on a two fight losing streak, and is coming off a submission loss to Gillian Robertson in her last fight.

Lightweight Bout: Gavin "Big Tasty" Hughes (13-4, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Favorite: -370) vs. Mateusz "Dynamite" Legierski (9-1, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Underdog: +290)

Gavin Hughes is a skilled, and powerful boxer, with good leg kicks. He's also okay if the fight goes to the ground, and can control, and hunt for submissions off his back. He is on a two fight winning streak, and is coming off a first round submission victory over Martin Nguyen that won him the ONE Featherweight Title. Mateusz Legierski is a devastating striker, with a creative array of punches and kicks, and smooth footwork that allows him to elude opponents. He is also a strong wrestler, which he tends to use to try and keep a fight standing, and play to his strengths. He is coming off a Unanimous Decision win over Kyron Salcido in DEEP.

Bantamweight Bout: Diego "El Pantera Negra" Pereira (6-3, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Underdog: +230) vs. Maike Linhares (12-4, 0-0 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Favorite: -300)

Diego Pereira is a highly skilled striker, with some power. He is elusive on his feet, and can be difficult to submit on the ground. Apparently he hasn't had a fight anywhere since the CTC started up in December 2020. Maike Linares is a very aggressive fighter who is always looking for the finish. A skilled striker, with some power in his kicks, he can keep a fight standing if he wants, but is adept at hunting submissions on the ground. He is coming off a first round knock out of Marcelo Rojo in Taura MMA.

Womens Atomweight Bout: Lindsey "Damsel" VanZandt (8-6, 1-2 CTC, CTC Rank: #21, Favorite: -230) vs. Jessica Delboni (11-5, 1-3 CTC, CTC Rank: Unranked, Underdog: +180)

Lindsey VanZandt is a skilled striker, though she lacks power, and has good takedown defence, and is very difficult to submit on the ground. She is on a two fight losing streak, and is coming off a submission loss to Naho Sugiyama in her last fight. Jessica Delboni is a jiu jitsu player, she has powerful high kicks, good takedowns, and a good submission game. Jordan Espinosa is a high level wrestler, with good takedowns, and takedown defence, who likes to bully opponents in the clinch. He was released by the UFC in 2021, and fought on some local shows before stepping up to the CTC. He is coming off a Split Decision loss to Danny Martinez at a local show. Jose Torres is a karate striker, with okay boxing, and a highly technical kicking game, with deadly low kicks. He is well rounded, and if the fight goes to the ground, has good positional grappling, and a strong submissions game. He is coming off a Unanimous Decision victory over Yao Zhikui in Brave CF.
