[Author's Note]

I hope everyone is having a safe and healthy 2020.

A TEW 2020 diary has been something I've wanted to since April but school + work + quarantine have gotten in the way.

Recently, talking to
DarK_RaideR
has reignited my passion to book GSW as well as write on here. Please read his
, it's fantastic!

During this time off, I've had a chance to recharge creatively and I think it'll reflect in this diary. Either way, I hope you'll like it.

Lastly, I want to shout out all the awesome GSW graphics makers who make such a project possible. Thank you
J Silver
,

,

,

,
King Bison
,
willr0ck
and anyone I forgot to mention.

Enjoy!

January 2020

Los Angeles, Calif.

Contrary to his stage name,
Brother Grimm
grew up a single child. Consequently, he never learned how to play with others—this fact became abundantly clear during his business partnership with
Gil Thomas
and
John "Nemesis" Campbell
. The trio founded Invincible Pro Wrestling in 2011 and it didn’t take long for Grimm to have a falling out with them due to creative differences. He soon walked out and founded Grimm SoCal Wrestling in order to maintain his vision of a hardcore, gangsta rap paradise that Thomas and the late Campbell adulterated in IPW with work rate and wrestling tradition. Now his head booker was doing the same by hiring the likes of
Randy Maxx
and
Shooting Star Perez
, and Grimm was not happy.

Still, there was a soft spot for
CJ Weston
. He wouldn’t lose his job, just the book. The former Mid-Atlantic champion was a talented manager and provided a stabilizing veteran presence in a locker room full of felons, gangsters and hustlers. A short meeting later, it was official. Weston took his demotion in stride. He was a professional after all.

Brother Grimm needed someone who understood what it was like to grow up in the streets. However, he wasn’t looking for any two-bit thug, he still wanted a veteran of the business who knew how to navigate the tricky waters of professional wrestling. Lucky for him, there was just the guy. Grimm made the call. Three hours ahead on the other side of the country, a phone rings. The screen’s light fills the room of a bare-bones Brooklyn brownstone, illuminating yellowed movie posters of old Blaxploitation flicks like “Cleopatra Jones” and “Shaft.” On a nearby shelf, the PSW National title reflects a shine.

“Yo.” answers Sayeed Ali. “Yea...I got time to talk.”

GSW: The Underground 2020

Grimm SoCal Wrestling
presents...

The Underground 2020

Friday, Week 3 2020

The Warehouse

5iic4tS.jpg6mMMrQ3.jpg232A9u3.jpg

Announcers:
MC Motormouth, Clifford Caves, CJ Weston

Welcome to the Underground. The year may be new but Grimm SoCal Wrestling is already in full swing. American champion Deaf Touch has been virtually unstoppable since King of California but Boneyard remains firmly in the title picture. The former champion will get a chance to earn another shot at the belt tonight when he goes toe-to-toe with fellow goliath Raheem Stash. The big Jamaican has had his own issues with his opponent’s State of Destruction running mate, BB Colossus. Plus, Papa Swoll and the Lone Star Crew continue to wage war against Los Guerrilleros, E-Soteric defends his West Coast title and more!

A buzz fills the air as The Warehouse crowd gathers, drinks in hand, to surround the ring at MC Motormouth’s announcement that The Underground was under way. Opening the show is West Coast champ E-Soteric, making his way to the ring to Vince Staples’
wearing an Everlast hooded robe, a nod to his boxing background. He throws a few jabs in the air, clearly focused on defending his belt.

"I ain't on that medication...it's only money that I'm chasing, that is all... represent my location...don't get chipped, don't get chipped"

Across the ring stands his opponent, Max Mayhem. The highflyer tries to pump up the crowd when his name is called by the ring announcer but to little response. It’s clear that the former MAW standout has yet to penetrate The Warehouse’s prickly fandom. Embarrassed, Mayhem cracks an awkward smile.

Max Mayhem vs. E-Soteric

GSW West Coast Title Match

It's always a challenge to warm up a crowd—now imagine half the venue is nodding off to a warm glass of lean. Luckily, E-Soteric's energetic brawling and Mayhem's high-flying is just the shot of expresso the fans need. Wasting little time, the two brawl all over the ring, with Mayhem mixing in several flying moves including a very pretty drop kick. Despite his entertaining style, Mayhem elicits nothing more than a few lukewarm cheers.

"E better wake up or else he's going home without the strap," notes MC Motormouth.

The back-and-forth action culminates into E-Soteric landing his signature right hook—another callback to his boxing days. Mayhem is out on his feet. With his opponent prone, E-Soteric tucks him under his armpit and drives him into the mat with powerful velocity with his patented Double Arm DDT and pins him for an easy 1-2-3.

Between matches, former West Coast champion Top Dolla is hitting on, rather unsuccessfully, a trio of Brother Grimm's gorgeous hostesses at The Warehouse bar. With a can of Monster Energy in his hand, he brags about being the "craziest white boy you've ever seen" and says that he has a pass in any hood. The second is an exaggeration, but to his credit, Top Dolla is known to dive off of anything during a wrestling match. Unfortunately, the hostesses are not impressed by his intrepid boasting and walk away, creeped out.

[Top Dolla]

His face is flushed red, both in embarrassment and anger. He tries to follow them but he can't get through. So instead, he yells over the crowd at them.

"Fine, <span style="color: black; background: black;">f***</span> you, I didn't want yo ugly ass anyway! Yo ass will be sorry when you get knocked up by some bum baby daddy!" squeals Top Dolla. "I'm a former West Coast champion, show me some respect!"

dSvk4Lt.png

Jay Rock’s
hits, announcing the arrival of The Lone Star Crew. The Texans are tough customers—Hard-1, the long time veteran carries himself with a no-nonsense attitude while his protege Public Enemy #1 brings an insatiable intensity. “Path of Rage” is what announcer Cliff Caves calls it. For all their toughness, the past few months have been rough. Constant beatdowns at the hands of Los Guerrilleros has lead to a makeshift alliance with blue chipper Papa Swoll. Tonight however, the Lone Star Crew have their hands full with another dangerous threat.

"...Told mama I'm a thug <span style="color: black; background: black;">n***a</span>, drug dealer, gang banger, young <span style="color: black; background: black;">n***a</span>..."

Dead Men Walking come out to YG’s
, flashing gang signs towards the crowd throughout their ring entrance. Without a doubt the most decorated tag-team in GSW, the pair of Gravedigga and Mobstar have nonetheless struggled to recapture the title from Long Beach Crew. The veteran Mobstar is regarded as one of the company's true work-horses and a cynic might say he would be wrestling for a national company by now if it wasn't for his felonies. Under his wing, the raspy-voiced nutcase Gravedigga has blossomed into a formidable brawler and the two still are both young enough for a potential main event run.

YDEGHR4.jpgROLZPux.jpgbqSS1jJ.jpg?1tAeV46k.jpgywsTS4Y.jpg

The Lone Star Crew vs. Dead Men Walking

If you spend your time watching World Star Hip-Hop fight videos, chances are you'll love Dead Men Walking. The unpredictable duo bring the scrap to their much bigger Texan opponents. In fact, they dominate much of the early proceedings until Hard-1 reverses Gravedigga into a ring-rattling spinebuster. Public Enemy #1 tags in and nearly decapitates 'Digga with a lariat.

"Damn son!" exclaims Clifford Caves.

Nearing an upset, the Lone Star Crew score several near pinfalls before the Narco-rap theme of Los Guerrilleros takes over The Warehouse. Dragging out the large, unconscious body of Papa Swoll is Brown Pride. Wielding baseball bats, the Chicano tag-team marches towards the ring.

dr9rREa.jpgBCpTZ1C.jpg?2

[brown Pride]

The Lone Star Crew is clearly distracted and distressed over the beatdown of their ally. However, turning one's back on the Dead Men Walking is never a good idea. Gravedigga takes advantage and rakes the eyes of Public Enemy #1. He tags in Mobster who knocks Hard-1 off the apron and the two turn their attention to the fallen Public Enemy #1 on the canvas, double-teaming him into The Execution. Mobster casually covers his rookie opponent for the win.

Dead Men Walking def. The Lone Star Crew

After the match, Dead Men Walking and Brown Pride have a short stare down before Mobstar and Gravedigga roll out of the ring. MexiCain and LatinoFear take the moment alone to finish what Dead Men Walking started. LatinoFear restrains a barely conscious Public Enemy #1 and MexiCain, with a signature Los Guerrilleros bat, hits a homerun with his skull.

dSvk4Lt.png

"...Word up son, word...yeah, to all the killers and a hundred dollar billas..."

Shooting Star Perez is already in the ring when the infamous Havoc beat rolls through The Warehouse speakers. Mobb Deep’s
is GSW’s introduction to the newly-arrived Sayeed Ali. Considered the greatest hardcore wrestler in post-DAVE era wrestling, the brash New Yorker made his name up North in Canada as the winningest champion in 4C history. Mic in hand, Ali cuts a promo before the match about the state of GSW.

“This is what this place has become?” says Ali. “Damn I used to respect GSW, it was Wakanda, it was the streets. Now we got punks in masks and spandex runnin around here.”

He continues to tear into the company’s new look, calling the roster soft and specifically dressing down his opponent. Despite the disrespect, Perez does nothing about it, clearly intimidated by Ali’s hallowed reputation as a dangerous fighter. Sayeed points out this unwillingness to respond to his disrespect, promising this was the last time the youngster would ever step into his GSW ring. In fact, he promises to purge all the "shook ones" from the company...for good.

v5UCkuF.jpgbqSS1jJ.jpg?1CX3AsNv.jpg

Sayeed Ali vs. Shooting Star Perez

One could say Sayeed Ali beat Perez like he owed him money. However, that would be inaccurate—after all, Sallie Mae has never whooped someone like this. The match goes from one-sided squash to hard-to-watch turpitude after Ali, uninterested in going for a pinfall, wraps a heavy steel chain around Perez's neck. He continues to choke the luchador purple until referee Moore Vincent has no choice but to call for the bell and award Ali the KO victory.

After the match, EMTs stretcher Perez out of the ring, marking likely the last we'll see of the young luchador.

"Crip <span style="color: black; background: black;">n***as</span>, Blood <span style="color: black; background: black;">n***as</span>, eses, Asians/Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, white boys, Jamaicans/Latin Kings, Disciples, Vice Lords, Haitians...All these <span style="color: black; background: black;">muthaf****as</span> been patiently waitin'..."

The sinister piano of Dr. Dre's legendary beat fills The Warehouse as the Game's Westside Story signals the always welcomed arrival of Busta Capp. The most respected wrestler in GSW history, Capp is greeted with a rousing ovation. Mic in hand, he begins cutting a promo, barely getting his words over the adoring crowd. Capp explains that the O.G.'s in his youth paved the way for him to become the man he is today—now that he's an O.G. himself, it was time for him to pay it forward.

"I'm callin' you out Tavon Blake—not outta hate but outta love," says Capp. "We out here opening doors for the youth."

He explains that he's had his eye on Blake for a long time now and he thinks the kid's got some serious potential but Grimm has yet to give him a chance to shine. For that reason, he wants to give him a chance to draw some attention to his ring work. Blake comes out to Villain Park's
, humbled by the offer and accepts. The two dap up before the bell.

lT1ouoK.jpgbqSS1jJ.jpg?1ilsLLY0.jpg

Busta Capp vs. Tavon Blake Jr.

Blake is a wrestler's wrestler. How a technical wizard ended up getting his start in GSW is anyone's guess but he's fit in surprisingly well. Early on in the match, he's tying up Busta Capp in knots, smoothly transitioning from one hold to the next. Despite this dazzling ring generalship, The Warehouse crowd seems a bit torn on Blake.

"Tavon Blake is showing the world he can hang with the big boys," remarks Clifford Caves.

Still, it's hard to deny the fast-paced action in the ring is fun to watch. Every time Capp is hit with an impressive maneuver or slick submission, he smirks with approval. Ultimately, experience and power win out with Capp hitting a Mafia Kick and pinning his game opponent.

Busta Capp def. Tavon Blake Jr.

After the match, Capp helps up a wincing Blake and shakes his hand. Grabbing a mic, he cuts a promo about how impressed he was with his opponent tonight.

"I don't call the shots round here, but I know Grimm you hear me," says Capp. "You see what this youngin' can do? Give him a shot—West Coast title next month. Promise you he'll make you some money."

dSvk4Lt.png

After a short intermission, the show returns with Noah Nadir making his way to the ring. In recent months, the youngster has been engaged in an increasingly gruesome hardcore war with the demented clown Magwich. After months of fanatical brawling, the two will finally face off in a sanctioned match—sanctioned being used liberally. Strewn across The Warehouse are tables, ladders, chairs, garbage cans, thumbtacks...you name it.

"These two cats have been at it for months," observes MC Motormouth. "They about to do some unspeakable things tonight."

Naturally coming out to an Insane Clown Posse track is the mirthless Magwitch, cackling every step of the way. Caked in facepaint and dragging a comically large rubber mallet to the ring, he's certainly an unnerving figure. As referee Dwight Kumas reaches to retrieve Magwitch's jacket, he sprays him in the face from the flower on his lapel.

V6nC4QX.pngbqSS1jJ.jpg?10SD9TYS.jpg

Noah Nadir vs. Magwitch

Hardcore Match

A lot of wrestling sucks, but when it's good, it's <span style="color: black; background: black;">f*****g</span> great. Unfortunately, the action in the ring is an extreme example of the wrestling that sucks. A minute into the match, the two are bleeding profusely as if they lived in a country with universal healthcare.

"This match is definitely not for the faint of heart," says CJ Weston.

In one particularly heinous series, Nadir whacks Magwitch in the face with a barbed wire bat, then powerslamming the bigger man onto a bed of thumbtacks. Despite the harrowing scene, Magwitch continues to cackle madly. The tacks stick out of his back like he's some sort of Ronald McDonald/porcupine hybrid. Finally, after several minutes of something only a BDSM fetishist would enjoy, Magwitch polishes off Nadir with a Stump PIledriver onto hard concrete.

Magwich def. Noah Nadir

dSvk4Lt.png

While the GSW crew scramble to clean up the bloody mess left behind after the match, CJ Weston leaves the announce booth to prepare for his Long Beach Crew's imminent match. He cuts a promo about how the Crew are the preeminent tag-team in GSW and how Cali Slick is hands down the biggest star in the company. Both are facts, but the opportunistic consigliere of the LBC certainly rubs the Warehouse fans the wrong way. To their delight, MexiCain, 1/2 of Brown Pride, interrupts him.

"¡Cállate la boca! Homes, you saw what we did to that other 'crew' tonight? Them foos not gonna walk straight for weeks," brags MexiCain. "Your boys are next..."

Their theme music, Alto Calibre by Big Los, hits and out comes Cain's partner, LatinoFear as Weston tenses up. The two are dressed in sagging Dickies shorts and oversized red flannels, with only the top button in. They're hotheaded and impulsive but there's no denying they're one hell of a tag-team. With all three of their rivals taken out for the night, Brown Pride know they can focus on bringing home the belts.

"...Oh, we might die for this sh**, <span style="color: black; background: black;">n***a</span> Uh, might go down for this sh**, <span style="color: black; background: black;">n***a</span>..."

Weston relaxes as his clients, the Long Beach Crew come out to ScHoolboy Q's
. Cali Slick strides to the ring confidently—embodying the G-Funk aesthetic that overtook West Coast hip-hop in the 90's, the former American Champion is arguably the company's biggest star. In his shadow, both literally and figuratively, is Aces High, who sulks behind him. To be fair, High is quite the brawler himself but a bad attitude and a lower ceiling as a singles star have relegated him to being Slick's de facto sidekick.

dr9rREa.jpgBCpTZ1C.jpg?2bqSS1jJ.jpg?1CL9joIU.jpg?1tlKQSz8.jpg?1

Brown Pride vs. Long Beach Crew

GSW Tag-Team Title Match

Brown Pride come out of the gate firing, with LatinoFear flooring Aces High with a brutal running forearm that even the folks in the back can hear. Using quick tags and cutting off the ring, Brown Pride isolate Aces in their corner. Despite this one-sided start, Cali Slick remains as cool as cucumber on the ring apron. His patience and faith in his partner pays off as Aces High escapes a double suplex and makes the hot tag. Slick bulldozes through both of his opponents and sets up for a Slick-Back on the now silent MexiCain when suddenly...

OwPo7hp.jpg

[Mexico's Finest]

Out comes the frightening third member of Los Guerrilleros, Mexico's Finest. Covered head to toe in tattoos and towering over most mere men, MF inspires fear, even in an unflappable bad ass like Slick. While Cali remains in charge, there are moments of hesitation with such a dangerous threat looming at his doorstep.

"Mexico's Finest is a bad, bad man," says MC Motormouth.

However, the towering Mexican's presence would ultimately be Brown Pride's downfall. LatinoFear, attempting a running senton from the ring apron onto a standing Aces High misses and hits his massive comrade. Finest is staggered but it's just the distraction the LBC need, nailing MexiCain with a ring rattling High and Low. Before either LatinoFear or Mexico's Finest can break up the pin, Cali Slick has his hand raised in the air.

Following the exciting tag match, Fro Sure approaches Big Magic, who is guarding the door of Grimm's VIP lounge. Probably the closest thing to a pure babyface in GSW, Fro has appeared sparsely as of late in a Grimm SoCal ring. Who can blame him? His music has been blowing up on SoundCloud and rumor has it both SWF and USPW have their eyes on him as a wrestler. He daps up Magic, the burley Commissioner of Violence.

xHAATqH.jpg

"I need you to set me up with a sit down with Grimm," says Fro Sure. "It's important."

Big Magic is clearly curious but he doesn't press. After all, Grimm doesn't pay him to care. The former street fighting star found his way to GSW after pressing his luck in an MMA ring. Being put to sleep to many times (and not by an IPW show), Magic now pays the bills by keeping the peace, or at least some semblance of it, in GSW.

npSPWCg.jpg

"Alright. I'll see what I can do," says Big Magic.

Fro Sure thanks him. Unmoved, Big Magic remains stoically guarding Grimm's door.

dSvk4Lt.png

The main event is up and the fans are hyped. Motormouth and Caves discuss the recent title picture and how dominant Deaf Touch has looked since winning the King of California tournament last year. CJ Weston, who rejoins the broadcast booth, brings up how Boneyard is the only man to push Touch to the limit. And speak of the devil, Pacman Da Gunman's
serves as a portend for the hulking ex-champion's arrival to the ring.

"...I don't come around cause I don't f** wit <span style="color: black; background: black;">n***az</span>/I don't come around cause I don't f** wit <span style="color: black; background: black;">n***az</span>..."

Plodding to the ring to a rainstorm of boos is Boneyard. The two-time American champion has been on a warpath since losing his belt this past October, steamrolling over notable names like Omar and E-Soteric in dominating fashion. A former real-life bodyguard of Brother Grimm, Boneyard has managed to turn into a surprisingly watchable talent in the ring. In addition to his singles run, Boneyard runs in the tag-team ranks as State of Destruction with BB Colossus, an even larger behemoth currently embroiled in a beef with Boneyard's upcoming opponent:

"...You ain't never had a thug, you ain't never had a thug...Beat it all night 'til you had enough..."

blasts through The Warehouse speakers as the massive Jamaican bad ass Raheem Stash makes his way towards the ring. Always war ready, the powerhouse has his eyes trained on his even larger opposition. Still, it's clear he's not 100%. Last month's Game of Death saw BB Colossus put Stash through a table after a career-defining victory over Busta Capp and the Jamaican's taped up ribs tell the full story. In his massive shadow is Kandii, Brother Grimm's most famous hostess who recently aligned herself with Stash.

xm71dtX.jpgbqSS1jJ.jpg?11jEuKso.jpg

Raheem Stash vs. Boneyard

GSW American #1 Contender's Match

A main event showdown between two barrel-chested monsters has The Warehouse fans going wild. Like most hoss matches, there aren't any moonsaults or super kicks. Instead, the two start off with that one generic shoulder block spot in every hoss vs. hoss match where the two take turns charging into one other to little effect. The match is slow and methodical but the awe-inspiring size of the in-ring talent is more than enough to engross the crowd.

"Unstoppable force meets immovable object! Something's gotta give!" exclaims CJ Weston.

Stash meets Boneyard in the center of the ring as they barter clubbing blows, neither fully toppling the other. Finally, a big headbutt from Boneyard staggers Stash. Not to be outdone, the Jamaican responds with a big shoulder block that floors the former champ. Taking control, Stash effortless picks up the larger man for an impressive powerslam. It looks like he's going to cruise to victory when suddenly...

rvJgImc.jpg?1

[bB Colossus]

Boneyard's massive tag-team partner runs (or more accurately slogs) to the ring, interfering with the match. Moore Vincent tries to restore order but in a hardcore federation, he's about as effective as Deaf Touch's Apple AirPods. Speaking of the American champion, he runs out to assist Stash, chair in hand.

hSHlT4R.jpg?1

[Deaf Touch]

"THE CHAMP IS HERE!" yells Clifford Caves.

The crowd goes wild as Deaf and Stash take the fight to the State of Destruction. BB Colossus blasts Stash through a barricade, only to be met with a glass bottle of cheap alcohol to the noggin by the champ. However, there's still a title match going on and to restore order is the Commish...

Despite the combined size and strength in the ring, Big Magic has no trouble pulling the massive BB Colossus away from Raheem Stash and drag the 250 pound Deaf Touch off of Boneyard. He manages to get a hold of the chaos, sending both BB and Deaf Touch back to the locker room. Boneyard takes advantage and chokeslams Stash, and goes for the pin.

"1...2..."

Stash kicks out of Boneyard's finisher much to the crowd's amazement. Still, it would be a pyrrhic victory as he would be subject to another chokeslam right after, one that he wouldn't kick out of.

Boneyard def. Raheem Stash, becomes #1 Contender for the American Championship

After the match, Boneyard grabs Raheem Stash by the throat, intent on a third chokeslam. Before he can execute, the iconic Roger Troutman chorus of 2Pac's
has the crowd going wild. Out comes GSW owner and West Coast legend Brother Grimm, looking slick and pimp as ever.

He shakes his head disapprovingly at his former bodyguard. Boneyard flares his nostrils, but releases his grip on the fallen Stash. Grimm nods and cuts one of his signature promos in his silky smooth voice.

"Congrats on yo victory, you really know how to make a G proud. Unfortunately, you ain't good at listening. Probably worse than Deaf Touch, no offense, gangsta," says Brother Grimm. "So I've been thinking, y'all wanna fight. So fight. In a tables match. At Anarchy. Good luck, pimp."

Grimm drops the mic and gives Boneyard a mock salute. Furious, Boneyard grabs Stash by the throat again, dragging him to the outside. He slowly sets up a folding table, the kind that one sets up to impress the girls at church, and chokeslams Raheem through it to close the show while the crowd showers him in boos.
