Piledriver Wrestling presents

...and a happy New Year 1997

Wednesday, Week 1, January, 1997

Live from Atlanta, GA

z6RgEyr.jpg7VTvEwh.jpg

Sims: "Hello fans of Piledriver Wrestling, Dennis sims here alongside Larry Grubbs, we welcome you to tonight's show and thank you for purchasing a tape in support of our upstart promotion. By getting your copy you not only support a company out to help groom the stars of tomorrow which you get to see in their very first steps, you also get to watch some of the most exciting independent wresting in the U.S. of A!"

Grubbs: "You know Dennis, it's always weird to hear you address our future audience, so I'm not going to be a part of it. I'm just going to do the job I was paid to do and call the action as it happens, don't care if it's a live or taped broadc... what the?"

A well-known music theme is played on the Community Center's speakers, one all too familiar to wrestling fans and certainly one you'd never expect to hear at an indy show that didn't even manage to get a hundred paying fans to watch...

upNoQfl.jpg

It's Micky Starr! The SWF legend Micky Starr is in the building!

Starr: "Man it feels good to be here! Yeah, you people never expected to see me here, did you? Goes to show, don't count the little promotions out, not everything happens in the big leagues. Anyway, I bet you're wondering why I'm here..."

Fans cheer and Micky Starr takes it all in, before turning to the announcers' table and pointing a finger towards Larry Grubbs

Starr: "I got a seat reserved right there... You know, it's easy to get selfish in this business. Let your ego get the best of you. Forget where you came from. I did not. I had my time and once I hung up my boots, I tried to give back to this business. Help the next generation. I went to Japan, worked for Golden Canvas. Canada, with the DeColts. But I realized I hadn't done anything to help my fellow American wrestlers. So Larry, if you'd please check with the crew backstage, they'll fill you in on your new responsibilities. I'm taking over on commentary for the foreseeable future. You fans excited for what's next?"

Fans cheer and Micky Starr leaves the ring. Larry Grubbs complains for a while, but eventually leaves in frustration to head backstage as Starr takes his place on commentary.

Big Cat Brandon & Henry Bennett vs Giant Redwood & R.T. Kayfabe

Piledriver Wrestling's resident angry big clumsy man teams up with the company's basic comedy act to take on the feline wildman powerhouse Big Cat Brandon and "The Trouble from Tennessee" Henry Bennett who provides some semblance of technical wrestling for the opener. It's not great, but it rides the coattails of Micky Starr's shock appearance and is over while the excitement from that still lasts., with Brandon pinning R.T. after spearing him with the Big Cat Pounce.

Winners: Big Cat Brandon & Henry Bennett, by pinfall

Ashley Murphy © vs Cat E Tude

Don't let the gimmicky nurse outfit fool you, Ashley Murphy is a legitimately trained nurse. Which means she pulls her punches back as much as she can. Looks weak, but at least she can play it up for laughs or to be the underdog. Her opponent is an even weirder case, the crazy cat lady of wrestling. Where the gimmick ends and the real person begins is never quite clear with her. In this case, she's more interested in sniffing the ring than actually wrestling, something that may or may not be attributed to the presence of Big Cat Brandon between the ropes earlier. This is anything from boring to embarrassing to watch, but for the record Murphy does apply her Painkiller finisher to retain.

Winner AND STILL Piledriver Women's champion: Ashley Murphy, by submission (defenses: 3)

Larry Grubbs returns with a mic in hand and enters the ring. He announces that he was told he will be interviewing the wrestlers from now on and his first interview is scheduled next, with none other than Rich Money, whose music plays as he comes down to the ring while showered with boos but not seeming to care.

Money: "You plebs are not worthy of my presence, or that of the living legend that is Micky Starr over there. This man's here because he can tell, no pun intended, a real star when he sees one. Takes one to know one, I'll say. Anyway, it is only fitting you are here tonight sir, to watch me take my place among the top of the food chain in this humble promotion. I have used my sizeable financial pull to buy myself a shot at the Piledriver Men's title tonight and I by the end of the night, I will be the new champion. Tonight, Rich Money... will make it rain!"

Piledriver Tag Team titles match

JY8wG3m.jpg0XnW6vx.jpgGIRKb76.jpgXfTqFBP.jpgRxpn27b.jpg

The Peak Brothers defeated Dario Shelton and Skeeter Colquhoun

The vacant Piledriver Tag Team titles were wrestled for next, with the Peak Brothers in their first year as pros but looking every bit as vicious as one would expect, especially after they gained notoriety for that "shoot" incident with Big Smack Scott. Doug and Eddie jumped the gun and imposed their pace on the match, brawling wildly outside the ring against two opponents who just couldn't match the natural understanding of two siblings. Skeeter Colquhoun's charisma and flashy spots did earn him a few cheers from the audience (despite his painful lack of psychology) and although Shelton was actually the best wrestler in this match, since this was about brawling and not grappling, he was unable to play to his strengths and ended up on the working end of a Peak and Valley.

Winners AND NEW Piledriver Tag Team champions: The Peak Brothers, by pinfall

Black Eagle vs Blue Sky

Battle of the luchadors in the semi main event as Black Eagle and Blue Sky brought the fight to each other. Not the best match these two could possibly have, since the audience is more into old school wrestling than a flashier aerial style and thus they had to play a more grounded game instead of being able to pull out all the stops. Clearly this was meant more as a breather and palette cleanser between two title matches and nothing was resolved between the two masked men, as they ended up getting counted out after a spectacular plancha to the outside.

Result: Draw (Double Countout)

Introduction

Hello and welcome dear friends and readers, old and new. For those of you who may not know me, I’m relatively fresh in terms of playing TEW and writing diaries, having gotten into both around the start of 2017. What I lack in years of experience I seem to make up with the sheer volume of diaries through, as I just can’t seem to be able to just play the game without turning it into a diary since the booking, angles and storylines feel void and directionless. I’ve done a bunch of diaries using my favourite CVerse promotion, GSW (the most recent of which is still active and can be found here), some well received BCG diaries, the latest of which flopped due to a transfer/backup/format issue I had. Not everything I do is great or keeps going long enough before it runs out of steam (I know my flaws and will openly admit them) but I guess I’m doing something right if I won DotM enough times to be in the Veteran Writers’ group and Most Improved Writer of the Year 2019. Gosh, feels so weird to be tooting my own horn when this is supposed to be an introduction and presentation of credentials. No wonder I’m terrible at job interviews.

Anyway, I’m more of a CVerse over Real World type and when I’m not using the default database, CVerse97 is my go-to. It’s latest version was recently released and I resisted the urge to jump immediately into a new save/diary, even if it’s been on my list of “to-do” projects since TEW20 was announced (yes, I have a list of specific diaries I wanted to do, Tarantino style, in order to refrain from starting a ton of diaries again). Lately though, it feels as if things are starting to fall in place. My longest save to date has been a Road to Glory game using the CVerse97 database, which went on for 14+ in-game years and can be found here while I’ve had much fun (and success) in the past booking the modern version of a CVerse97 promotion, Piledriver Wrestling. The dojo has produced many major stars and I wanted to revive that feeling as a small indy promotion that ended up rivalling RIPW itself. This company used to start without any contracts, but in the latest inception of the mod, comes with a starting roster, which I will be using.

Game details, format and goals

I wanted to post the first show at the start and hopefully give you a preview of what to expect as well as hook you in with stuff like Micky Starr showing up or Rich Money winning a title. Here is a little more information on what’s going on and what I have in mind.

My user character is Micky Starr and I’m playing as the owner of PDW. I enjoy trying to stick within owner goals, but found out this can be quite restrictive when writing a diary, especially if the owner is… unusual. The idea behind this is that Starr is giving back to the business in the States and helping what he essentially sees as an SWF/RIPW feeder league, so his ties to the Eisens could play into the story.

As you can tell from the roster of the show above, PDW starts with some big future stars and more will debut over the course of the game. I’m not interested in a precise recreation of CVerse canon and knowing who the big stars are ahead of their time feels a bit like cheating, so I set database variance to Extreme and Random Incidents as well as Worker Deaths to maximum. Hopefully these settings will shake things up enough to make them interesting and unpredictable.

I’m sticking to three basic rules when it comes to hiring workers: must be under 30 years of age and unemployed, while Piledriver dojo graduates will be hired as soon as they debut. These may change down the road, but I figure it’ll take quite some time before I’m in a position where any of there rules needs to be changed.

In my long CVerse97 game, I enjoyed seeing how the world evolved and apparently so did people reading the diary. Therefore, I will be tracking down the news of each month and posting updates to keep you all up to speed.

Last but not least, instead of writing out the main event of each show, I will be using Fire Pro Wrestling to showcase it. I’ve gotten pretty decent when it comes to designing workers fast, easy and wrestling much like they’re supposed to, so I enjoy this visualization. Furthermore, it’s motivation to stick with this save/company and grow, at least to the point where I start using big venues for major crowds, which in turn will allow me to use other FPW venues for the videos, complete with wrestler entrances.

Thanks

DerekB for creating and updating the CVerse97 mod, as well as all the users that have offered assistance: Scapino, the team of That 70s Mod, London, Wonk, brat99, absolutelyridiculous, Acey, Bagins, bjohnanes, CreeperGav, D-Lyrium, d12345, DaneplaysTEW, Deathcon, Dorian, gtb321, Hollywood, InstantlyOil, Jomosensual, kanegan, Kijar, LloydCross, LucasLutkus, PsychoRAIJIN, Regis and Wicked Intentions

Everyone whose re-renders I will be using, including but not limited to King Bison, willr0ck, shipshirt, jtlant, smw88, sockpuppet, jsilver, Asaemon, poputt and others. Also ReapeR for designing the PDW title belts and southside_hitmen for the letter grades, I like this more generic star rating for a small indy promotion and will be using those instead of numbers. It's also in line with the way grades were presented in the previous Piledriver diary.

Historian, Chisoku, Lloyd, Togg, Bigelow Cartwheel and several others for their support and inspiration.

Much love and apologies to anyone I may have forgot to mention specifically and thank you for being here, dear reader. Hope you enjoy.

Wow that was a really impressive main event! Deserved more then 1 3/4 stars haha. You did a great job designing the wrestlers and I popped for the Money Shot. Cv97 is one of my favs to play. Thanks for sharing

Thanks and welcome. Rich's 97 finisher is called Dollars from Heaven, so I figured the prayer diving headbutt is fitting. I also liked how he followed it up with a cocky pinning predicament. Matches his character.

I'm planning to post the January news updates in a bit, to give readers an idea of the layout they'll follow.

Piledriver Wrestling presents

No Love Lost 1997

Wednesday, Week 1, February, 1997

Live from Atlanta, GA

Announcers: Dennis Sims and Micky Starr

fEleQ52.jpgBFl2knt.jpgig9IDI8.jpgGIRKb76.jpgp89oIgy.jpgs5X4r1n.jpgysrYjVB.jpg

Ashley Murphy, Rebecca Petty & Tenille Ven vs Cherry Bomb, Susan Forabruisin & Trauma Doll

Essentially a showcase of the company's Women's Division, the opening trios match saw the heels on offense for the most part and the babyfaces selling to gain sympathy. Cherry Bomb and Susan Forabruisin were relentless in their striking and brawling, while Trauma Doll's unhinged character added an edge of danger to it all. As the reigning champion and a natural underdog, Ashley Murphy tried to stand up for her team and took most of the beating, including a big Cherry Bomb powerbomb to the mat for the finish.

Winners: Cherry Bomb, Susan Forabruisin & Trauma Doll, via pinfall

After the match, Micky Starr entered the ring with a microphone.

Starr: "Ladies and gentlemen, fans of Piledriver Wrestling. Tonight we start the journey to determine the man worthy of challenging for the Men's title. Opportunities 'round here are earned, not given, and it starts tonight with the first four quarterfinal matches!"

#1 Contender Tournament Quarterfinal match

Dario Shelton vs Doug Peak

Shelton was, in theory, the favorite in this match against a 17 year old opponent in his rookie year, but the ferocity of both Peak brothers is a thing to behold and it more than makes up for their lack of experience. With Shelton calling the match in this case, the two men told a good story of the veteran trying to wrestle his opponent and Doug being a wild unpredictable psychopath that wouldn't follow traditional wrestling conventions. A fist-laden bout where neither man's feet left the mat for any high flying, the contest ended with Doug Peak covering Shelton and holding on to his trunks to secure the pin.

Winner: Doug Peak, by pinfall using underhanded tactics

Black Eagle vs Henry Bennett

Being from Tennessee and utilizing a classic technical wrestling style, Bennett had the fans behind him throughout the match against his high flying masked opponent. This clash of styles was what the bout was built upon, with Eagle trying to stay on the move and Bennett attempting to keep him grounded and work on his legs to limit his mobility. It took some work breaking down the mysterious one, but Bennett was able to pull it off and shortly before the ten minute mark, he was able to put him in the Figure Four and squeeze out the submission.

Winner: Henry Bennett, by submission

Rich Money makes his way to the ring wearing the recently won Piledriver Men's title around his waist. Larry Grubbs slides in under the bottom rope with a mic in hand to interview him.

Grubbs: "Ladies and gentlemen, I am here with the new Piledriver Men's champion, Rich Money. Congratulations Rich, fans want to know..."

Money: "Like I care what fans want to know, Larry! I'm not in this business for the fans, I'm in it to make more money and that's exactly what I did. I'm cashing a champion's cheques now. I'm what's best for business. No one takes a promotion seriously when their top star is called Nuzzle Bunny. But when you tell someone your champion is Rich Money, they pay attention. Hell, they pay money to see a man like me wrestle. I am this company's most prized asset. I put butts in seats. I... make it rain!"

Grubbs: "What are your comments on this tournament to determine your challenger? Who do you see winning, or who would you rather face to defend your title?"

Money: "I'm seeing some great competitors. But none as great as myself. It doesn't matter who you put in my way, line 'em up and I'll knock 'em down."

Grubbs: "Aren't you worried that Micky Starr is trying to find a champion to his cause through all this?"

Money: "Don't make this about you, Larry, because it's not about you, it's about me. You lost your spot at the announcing table, I'm not losing this title and Mr. Starr knows damn well I'm the future of Piledriver Wrestling!"

Rich Money's music plays and he flashes a smile towards the announcers. Micky Starr just shakes his head.

#1 Contender Tournament Quarterfinal match

9sqxCKu.jpgGIRKb76.jpgXiIspIV.jpg

Blue Sky vs Giant Redwood

A variation of the previous match, this time with Giant Redwood relying on his sheer size and power to put the brakes on his aerialist opponent. A plodding big man of the old school mold, Redwood is far from an exciting or skilled wrestler, but at 7' tall and 465lbs he is not one to be taken lightly. Blue Sky found that out firsthand as his offense seemed to barely get under Redwood's skin and it only took a single opening for the big man to hit a ring shaking Standing Splash for the pin.

Winner: Giant Redwood, by pinfall

Dario Shelton! He's working for me too! Good to see you make use of Rich Money new catchphrase to boost those angle ratings and how you interpret him, I'm especially fond of this character for some reason. As for FPWW matches. I've done a lot of those in the past, it's a great tool to give more content to the save but the recording frames of your matches are not the best unfortunately, I recommend you to use MSI Afterburner to boost those fps. I see Big Cat Brandon and I like him a lot it's also great to book the Peak brothers so early on in their careers. Brandon picks up the win and the big question here is, will he face Eddie's brother next round and destroy both of them? Keep up man!

Thanks for your comments and constructive criticism. I think the frame rate is down to my graphics card, or rather, lack thereof :D It's all motherboard pulling the weight and while it's enough for smooth play, recording can get a bit choppy. It's also why I haven't looked into overclocking anything.

The opening tag match more or less rode the wave of the two masked men's ongoing rivalry to tell a story, with Kayfabe adding some comedy spots and Colquhoun using his charisma to warm up the fans for the rest of the show. Pretty basic, but effective stuff and a win for the heels when Black Eagle hit the fun loving Skeeter with his finisher.</p><p>

<strong>Grubbs:</strong> "Welcome back to Piledriver Wrestling, I gotta ask the question everyone wants to pose, what are your thoughts after losing the Men's championship to Rich Money?"</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Bruins:</strong> "I learned about that match same as everybody else, when Rich Money announced it inside this ring on January. I had no time to prepare, but I'm not going to use it as an excuse for my loss. Rich beat me fair and square. He's a great wrestler and a great champion, I don't like him but that doesn't mean I don't respect him."</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Grubbs:</strong> "Do you think it is coincidence this happened on the same night Micky Starr showed up?"</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Bruins:</strong> "You know what Larry, I'd normally complain about your obsession with Mr. Starr, but it seems to me there is indeed a conspiracy at work. Because I never heard anything about a rematch for my title. We went straight into this tournament to determine the next contender. A tournament from which I can't help but notice, I'm absent. Does the former champion not even deserve a chance to prove himself and climb his way back again?"</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>Having worked the fans into being quite vocal, Nuzzle Bunny goes to the corners to shout something to them that the mic doesn't catch, then leaves the ring.</p><p>

Ashley Murphy © vs Cherry Bomb</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Cherry Bomb starts the match hot off the heels of pinning the champion in last month's six woman tag and fans instantly sympathize with the underdog babyface as she's clubbed to the mat and thrown around the ring. Cherry stays on her opponent all the time giving no quarter and the match goes on to be extremely one sided as Murphy struggles to land even a single move. Even her hope spots end up missing altogether as she swings wide or miscalculates, selling the challenger's offense by being all out punch drunk until she's hit with a Cherry Bomb that drives her to the mat for the finish.</p><p>

Despite the match being over and Cherry winning, she seems to be in a frenzy and continues her beatdown of Murphy. Even after the referee tries to pass her the belt and pull her away, Cherry Bomb just won't stop. Then suddenly,

</p><div class="ipsEmbeddedVideo"><div><iframe width="200" height="150" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/Aj-9-3f0kr8?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="" title="The Cure - Burn"></iframe></div></div> hits the speakers. Once the intro has built up and the guitar melody starts to sound on top of the bass line, out comes...<p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="cnxmq0o.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/cnxmq0o.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p>

...a beautiful goth-like woman who makes her way to the ring. Surprised, Cherry Bomb clutches the title and leaves the ring as the new mystery woman enters the ring. Bomb retreats holding the belt up high and the new face stares her down as she leaves, before turning her attention to Ashley Murphy who she helps up as fans cheer.</p><p>

Big Cat Brandon vs Giant Redwood</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Clash of the big men in the first of the night's two tournament matches, with Brandon clearly being the better wrestler. Redwood though is one of the few, if not the only one, on the Piledriver roster who are larger than Brandon and he's able to bully the Big Cat around the ring. Brandon also gets to showcase his cat-like agility and impressive athleticism for a man his size, which pops the crowd and only serves to make his opponent even more lazy and plodding than he already is. A big spot comes when Brandon manages to hit the Big Cat Pounce and while it doesn't knock his opponent down, it's enough to make him stumble back, both men falling over the rope still in an embrace. After some hard punches back and forth at ringside, Redwood gets a lucky opening when he throws a ringside barricade in the way of Brandon as he's charging for another Big Cat Pounce and he quickly takes things back into the ring so he can hit his Standing Splash.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winner: Giant Redwood, by pinfall</strong></p><p><strong>

After the match is over, Eddie Peak, who had been at his brother's corner for this match, slides into the ring and the Tag Team champions proceed to viciously beat down Bennett as fans erupt in boos.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Eddie:</strong> "You losers boo all you want, me and my brother here don't give a damn what you think of us. We're not here to entertain you. Hell, we're not even here to win. We're here to fight and mess people up!"</p><p>

Micky Starr opens the show with a promo, addressing the audience from inside the ring.</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Starr:</strong> "Ever since I joined this company, I've heard a lot of gossip and guesses related to my presence, my role, or my plans here. Let's get thing one thing perfectly clear. I'm not here with any agenda, other than to help this promotion and the young talents coming out of the Piledriver Wrestling School. I'm not here to mess with your job, Larry Grubbs. I'm not here to arrange or hinder anything, Chris Bruins. And I'm certainly not here to champion any specific person. Rich Money can run his mouth all he wants about me, that doesn't make me see or treat him any better than the rest of the roster. Same goes for the tournament to determine his challenger; it's about the title challenger, not finding my personal protege or golden boy."</p><p> </p><p>

"Now that we got that out of the way... Giant Redwood and Henry Bennett will clash in the tournament finals tonight. I will not have any interference ruin this match, or anyone involved in it. Last month, the Peak Brothers attacked Henry Bennett after his match with Doug. So tonight, the two of them will pay for it inside this ring when they face Chris Bruins, Dario Shelton and Big Cat Brandon in a handicap match!"</p><p>

<strong>Rebecca Petty vs Susan Forabruisin vs Tenille Ven</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

The opening three way match is another display of how underdeveloped PDW's Women's Division is compared to their male counterparts. Basic strikes, big moves out of nowhere with no regards to psychology or storytelling, miscommunication, getting up too fast and forgetting to sell, it's all there. As the most experienced of the three, Susan Forabruisin calls the match and is the one mostly on offense to try and salvage the experience, dominating both her opponents before she levels Petty with a Lariat to win.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winner: Susan Forabruisin, by pinfall</strong></p><p><strong>

Black Eagle vs Blue Sky vs R.T. Kayfabe vs Skeeter Colquhoun</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Next up is another multi-person match, a four corners bout featuring some of the flashiest and most entertaining wrestlers on the PDW roster. Black Eagle and Blue Sky spend most of the match fighting each other, busting out big moves when the crowd needs to be roped in and struggling outside the ring after a plancha when the other two men need some space to shine. With many participants to wear down or have break up pins and submissions, this one goes quite longer than most PDW matches, ending slightly after the 14 minute mark, but somehow it never loses the audience all the way to the finish when Blue Sky hits a picture perfect Phoenix Firebird Splash on R.T. Kayfabe to win the bout.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winner: Blue Sky, by pinfall</strong></p><p><strong>

Cat E Tude vs Raven Nightfall</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Announced as Raven Nightfall, the woman who came to Ashley Murphy's aid last month makes her in-ring debut against Cat E Tude. Thus, the match is essentially a showcase of what the young rookie can do, which is quite a lot given her inexperience. Cat E Tude makes sure to play her part as a heel with frequent eye rakes or hissing at the referee when told to break up a hold, but she also calls the match from start to finish. At first, there's some miscommunication, as Nightfall is clearly following some sort of match script while her opponent is probably improvising, but the two quickly sort this out and end up putting on a solid contest, ending with Nightfall's victory.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winner: Raven Nightfall, by pinfall</strong></p><p>

<img alt="bnY1FzQ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/bnY1FzQ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

After the match, Raven Nightfall requests a microphone to speak.</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Nightfall:</strong> "As you've heard, my name is Raven Nightfall. I'm not a graduate of the Piledriver Wrestling School, but want to learn and this is the best place to do it. Thank you all for accepting me and thank you for your support in my first match tonight."</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="ysrYjVB.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ysrYjVB.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Nightfall ends the promo and looks up to the catwalks above the venue, where some fans have already noticed the presence of the demented Trauma Doll looking down on the scene.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="0l8tY8y.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/0l8tY8y.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p>

<strong>The Peak Brothers vs Big Cat Brandon, Dario Shelton & Nuzzle Bunny</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

To absolutely no one's surprise, this match quickly falls apart in terms of tags and rules, turning into an all out brawl inside and out of the ring. Thirsting for a good ol' southern wrasslin' brawl, the fans cheer and applaud the action and the Peak Brothers are all too happy to cause chaos, mayhem and bloodshed even if the odds are against them. Their resilience and gleeful lust for violence sees them stay in the match for over fifteen minutes despite being outnumbered, with Big Cat Brandon especially shining thanks to a mix of his size, power and unusual athleticism for a man his size. For all of Doug and Eddie's toughness though, the disadvantage is just too much to overcome and eventually Doug gets hit with a Double Underhook Faceplant onto a chair by Dario Shelton in the middle of the ring, ending the match on a high note and probably outshining the main event as an early contender for match of the night.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winners: Big Cat Brandon, Dario Shelton & Nuzzle Bunny, by pinfall</strong></p><p>

<img alt="0l8tY8y.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/0l8tY8y.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Rich Money hits the ring and Larry Grubbs gets between the ropes to interview him.</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Grubbs:</strong> "We're just minutes away from the main event and Rich, how do you see this unfolding? Do you have a preference in regards to who you'd rather face?"</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Money:</strong> "Listen, Bennett's a great grappler and Redwood's as big as the tree he's named after, but neither's as good as Rich Money. I got the best training money can buy. I've chiseled my body through pinpoint precise training and nutrition while they were having steak or rice and tuna trying to build muscle. I'm in a league of my own and once this is all set and done, I will still be standing tall as the Piledriver Men's champion."</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Grubbs:</strong> "What are your comments on Mr. Starr's comments at the start of the show tonight?"</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Money:</strong> "I get it, he's trying to remain impartial. Even if deep down inside, he knows I'm the future of this company. Even if he doesn't like or respect me, I'm what sells tickets and gets people through those doors. You know what they say about opinions but the fact is, Rich Money... makes it rain!"</p><p>

The show begins with Larry Grubbs in the ring and about to interview Rich Money

Grubbs: "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to tonight's show, welcome to Mayhem 1997! My name is Larry Grubbs and I'm standing here with Piledriver Wrestling Men's champion, Rich Money. Rich, tonight you finally get to defend this title. The tournament is over, your opponent has been determined and what are your thoughts about wrestling Henry Bennett tonight?"

Money: "I said so last month, I'll say it again, Bennett is a great wrestler and I have a lot of respect for him. But being a great wrestler alone is not enough to make you a champion. Just ask that man over there, he'll tell you all about it. He knows what's best for business and he knows Rich Money is the man... who makes it rain!"

Frustrated, Micky Starr puts down his headset, grabs a microphone and stands up to talk from behind the announcers' table.

Starr: "Enough of this! I don't know why you keep doing this. Saying you're in my good graces or imply there's some sort of relationship between us. You're a solid wrestler, I'll give you that, but you're not getting any special treatment from me. Frankly, I'm amazed you have the guts to compare yourself to me and my legacy. Now get out of that ring and go prepare for your match, we have a show scheduled for tonight!"

Dario Shelton, Chris "Nuzzle Bunny" Bruins & Skeeter Colquhoun vs R.T. Kayfabe & The Peak Brothers

It didn't take long for the opening trios match to break down into a crazy brawl in and out of the ring, especially since the Peak Brothers were involved in it. To his credit, R.T. Kayfabe used that to squeeze out a few comedy moments, complaining to his teammates, opponents, the ref and anyone who would listen about enforcing rules like tags and countouts. Which, ironically, he himself broke when he hit Skeeter Colquhoun with a low blow as he was about to hit a flying move off the top rope, before scoring the pin while Shelton and Bruins were trading blows with the Peaks outside the ring.

Winners: R.T. Kayfabe & The Peak Brothers, by pinfall after a low blow

Larry Grubbs returns to the ring, this time to interview Cherry Bomb, who's wearing the Women's title around her waist.

Grubbs: "Fans, I am here with the new Piledriver Wrestling Women's champion, Cherry Bomb!"

Bomb: "Damn right you are! And I don't care about your questions, or Ashley Murphy. I'm here to address that upstart, Raven Nightfall. You think you can just show up and meddle in the champion's business, girl? Well you can't! I'm gonna end you before you take root in this company, Raven. Tonight, I won't just break your body, I'll break your spirit too. Ref, hold the title belt for me, I got business to handle!"

Grubbs: "A match? Now?!"

Bomb: "I want to beat up Raven Nightfall, and if I gotta put my title on the line to get a match against her, I will! Come out and play, Raven!"

Cherry Bomb vs Raven Nightfall

A match that should have been all over the place, this one actually turned out pretty decent, especially considering it was essentially just the second match in Raven's pro career. Cherry Bomb brought her signature brawling and smashmouth style against Raven's more technically-oriented approach, pushing the clock probably further than it should have gone, just past fourteen minutes, before...

ysrYjVB.jpg

...Trauma Doll crawled out from underneath the ring to blindside Raven with a kendo stick shot, out of the ref's field of vision, setting her up for the Cherry Bomb that had her staring at the lights for the three count.

Winner: Cherry Bomb, by pinfall after Trauma Doll interfered (Defences: 1)

Big Cat Brandon & Blue Sky vs Black Eagle & Giant Redwood

The semi main event was about big man/high flyer teams and the aspect was played up, whether it was similar opponents facing off or a David vs Goliath setup. Big Cat Brandon especially had several chances to showcase his athleticism, with Black Eagle toning his style down in order to heel things up but also not expose his sluggish teammate too much. Just as the match seemed to be picking up steam after five or so minutes, Giant Redwood managed to get disqualified for ignoring the referee's counting and failing to break up a chokehold on Blue Skye in the corner.

Winners: Big Cat Brandon & Blue Sky, by disqualification

<strong>Cat E Tude, Cherry Bomb & Susan Forabruisin vs Ashley Murphy, Rebecca Petty & Tenille Ven</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Nothing to write home about, the opening six woman tag was there to get the fans going, sadly thanks to the participants' looks as much as their wrestling skills. The babyfaces had their moments to shine and sold their asses off for their opponents, especially the hard hitting Cherry Bomb and Susan Forabruisin, but it was Cat E Tude that got the win by playing it smart and managing to tap out Ashley Murphy with her Play Thing finisher.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winners: Cat E Tude, Cherry Bomb & Susan Forabruisin, by submission</strong></p><p>

<strong>Bomb:</strong> "You are looking at the Piledriver Women's champion, the true force in this company's division. <strong>Big Butcher vs Nelson Faber</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Though it wasn't announced, the two competitors were actually both fresh graduates of the Piledriver Wrestling School and this was their debut match. Being a Super Heavyweight, Big Butcher portrayed the classic monster giant heel with power moves and devastating blows, while the Lightweight Japanese-American Nelson Faber played the part of the high flying babyface. This was a very by-the-numbers short in and out match, featuring green competitors the audience has never seen before, so it was never supposed to be great, but it did its job and provided both men with some much-needed experience.</p><p>

Aiden Nine vs R.T. Kayfabe</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Aiden Nine has been touted as a potential future star thanks to his natural all-American babyface package. Having the tools but lacking the skills and experience, he found himself mostly on the selling side in this match as he took a beating from R.T. Kayfabe and lost to the more experienced heel. Even though the action itself wasn't anything spectacular, the crowed was quite responsive to the wrestlers, cheering Nine and booing Kayfabe till the very end.</p><p>

Big Cat Brandon & Skeeter Colquhoun vs Black Eagle & Giant Redwood</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Another take on last month's tag match, with the notable exception of Colquhoun replacing Blue Sky this time. Eagle and Redwood built on the fallout of the previous match, with Redwood walking a thin line and Eagle trying to hold him from going overboard and getting DQ'd again. Colquhoun held his ground in terms of performance, lacking the in-ring acumen of Blue Sky but being able to connect with the fans much better than the masked man can, while Big Cat Brandon was once again the best worker of the bunch, by far. Still, this wasn't enough in a tag team match and Colquhoun fell to Black Eagle's finisher, the New Jersey Turnpike, after nearly six minutes since the opening bell rang.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winners: Black Eagle & Giant Redwood, by pinfall</strong></p><p>

Raven Nightfall comes down to the ring next and Larry Grubbs is there to interview her.</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Grubbs:</strong> "Fans, I'm standing next to Raven Nightfall and let me tell you, I'd love for nightfall to find me next to her alright. Or under. Over. What's your preference girl?"</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Nightfall:</strong> "Uhm, should I consider a workplace sexual harassment lawsuit?"</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Grubbs:</strong> "Oh I'm lawyered up in advance, baby! Stuff like that the Eisens couldn't handle and if Micky Starr over there wants to mess with my living, I'm going to mess with his family wrestling show!"</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Nightfall:</strong> "This isn't about your personal vendetta, hold up the microphone and let me talk about what's important. What's important is Trauma Doll cost me a shot at the Piledriver Women's title. I don't know what her problem with me is and she won't talk to me about it, so I've made a request to solve this thing in the ring, right here and now!"</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>Trauma Doll's music plays and a panicked Larry Grubbs leaves the ring as fast as he can.</p><p>

<img alt="M4SOg7D.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/M4SOg7D.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Raven Nightfall vs Trauma Doll</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Despite the hints of a storyline and a hot promo leading into this, the final outcome wasn't that great. The clash between Nightfall's technical approach and Trauma Doll's reckless hardcore style was largely to blame, as it didn't come across as a back and forth but more like a mess with each wrestler trying to do their own thing individually. There was little cohesion and a few minutes should have probably been shaved off, but the bout was passable overall, with Doll able to come out on top once she hit her scary Blunt Force Trauma finisher.</p><p>

The Peak Brothers © vs Dario Shelton & Chris "Nuzzle Bunny" Bruins</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

The ongoing rivalry between Shelton and Nuzzle Bunny on one side and the Peak siblings on the other led up to a tag match with the titles on the line, a rare title defense for the champions as they are the only regular pairing on the PDW roster. This showed in execution, as Doug and Eddie utilized several double team maneuvers on their opponents. Naturally, this was another chaotic brawl that spilled outside the ring, but it was entertaining nonetheless and surely got the audience pumped for the main event that was up next.</p><p>

Piledriver Wrestling presents

Summer Smash 1997

Wednesday, Week 1, July 1997

Live from Atlanta, GA

z6RgEyr.jpgupNoQfl.jpg

Announcers: Dennis Sims and Micky Starr

As the show begins, Micky Starr gets inside the ropes with a microphone.

Starr: "This company and the Piledriver Wrestling School have produced some amazing wrestlers through time. Many of those you have an opportunity to witness in action here, where stars are born. Others have moved on to further their careers and one of those men I have the pleasure of introducing to you tonight. This man is an accomplished grappler and hard hitter who has drawn the attention of Golden Canvas Grappling, the most historic of Japan's promotion. He truly is a Pioneer and he is here tonight to wrestle Rich Money for the PDW Men's title, ladies and gentlemen, Oklahoma's own...

Big Cat Brandon, Henry Bennett & Dario Shelton vs Big Butcher and The Peak Brothers

A crazy and hard hitting six man tag kicked off the show, with the Peak Brothers quickly taking things outside the ring where they could double team opponents, use weapons and deliver their signature hardcore violence. Big Cat Brandon especially was all to happy to keep up and although Butcher was somewhat slower and inexperienced than everyone else, he had his spots to shine with some big power moves. Still, the ending of the match saw him isolated inside the ropes while the Peaks were beating on Shelton and Bennett in the audience, allowing the equally large but slyer Brandon to catch him with a Big Cat Pounce and get the three count.

Winners: Big Cat Brandon, Henry Bennett & Dario Shelton, by pinfall

Cat E Tude vs Tenille Ven

Something between a comedy match and a bathroom break, this match was genuinely hard to watch. Cat E Tude missed several of her spots (some of which due to her once again sniffing about the ring in what's quickly becoming a running joke when she gets to have a match after Big Cat Brandon) and since she was the veteran supposed to call the match, her lack of focus in turn exposed Tenille Ven. Eventually, Cat E Tude hissed at the ref to scare him away and snuck in an eye rake with her claws in order to hit the Play Thing on her opponent and get the win.

Winner: Cat E Tude, by pinfall after cheating

Chris "Nuzzle Bunny" Bruins & Nelson Faber vs R.T. Kayfabe & Black Eagle

Nelson Faber came out wearing a black leather jacket, apparently now portrayed as a rocker, which would also explain his pairing with Bruins. This seemed to anger R.T. Kayfabe, who called out Faber on not being actually into rock and sought to punish him for what he apparently considered a breach of kayfabe. Basic comedy and storytelling elements there, with Black Eagle complementing his team with some high flying action. Unsurprisingly, the rookie Faber took the Kayfabe Breaker and the pin in a pretty passable bout overall.

Winners: R.T. Kayfabe & Black Eagle, by pinfall

Blue Sky vs Giant Redwood

A classic David against Goliath setup in this match, with Blue Sky using his flashy moves to garner fan support and his selling of his opponent's big power moves to garner sympathy. A pretty safe, by-the-numbers match all in all, with Sky hitting his impressive Phoenix Firebird Splash finisher to win.

Winner: Blue Sky, by pinfall

Rich Money made his entrance next, title around his waist, and took the time to cut a promo before his scheduled opponent could join him in the ring.

Money: "So apparently I've beaten everyone there is to be and now management has to import challengers for my title. To look back on prior graduates and call them back. Which only goes to show how much I've elevated this title, what a great wrestler I am, when a man who's killing it in Japan accepts to return to a tiny venue in Atlanta and wrestle me for the belt. Nathan Coleman, I don't care about your accomplishments, because I'm already doing better than you did when you were at this early stage in your career. I know I can beat you so come out and let's get this over with!"

Hotlanta Hassle 1997

Wednesday, Week 1, August 1997

Live from Atlanta, GA

z6RgEyr.jpgupNoQfl.jpg

Announcers: Dennis Sims and Micky Starr

guXejyp.jpg

Rich Money opens the show by making his entrance and grabbing a mic to speak his mind.

Money: "Settle down and let the champion talk. You people will never be as rich, as talented or as good looking as I am… or as smart, so shut up and listen, you might learn a thing or two. You don’t have to be like me, hell, you don’t even have to like me to realize that I’m on top of the food chain here. I’ve beaten everyone there is to beat. And honestly, I expected more when that man over there in the announce table joined this company. I expected new talent. Someone even remotely close to my level. But I got none of that. So I’m guessing I’ll just have to take this title on the road and defend it elsewhere. Who knows, maybe if I get out of this dump and head to New York I might be able to…”

Starr: “Hold on a second there, Rich… I gotta hand it to you, you’ve taken on all comers and stayed on top. You even managed to defeat Nathan Coleman somehow. But there’s one man you have yet to face for the PDW Men’s title. One man who would challenge you for the top spot on that food chain. So tonight, you’re going to put that title on the line once again… against Big Cat Brandon!”

Cherry Bomb © vs Ashley Murphy

Ashley Murphy got a chance in this match to reclaim the title she lost to Cherry Bomb and fans were on her side, but what really helped her was Bomb’s uncontrollable temper. The champion played up her explosive character to work the crowd as well as to set up hope spots that allowed her opponent to get some offense in, before she cut her off to inflict more damage. Hardly an exciting contest, but a watchable one nonetheless, with Cherry Bomb making her second successful defence as she ended up getting the pin over her challenger.

Winner: Cherry Bomb (Defences: 2)

ysrYjVB.jpg

Once the match is over, Trauma Doll’s music hits and the division’s demented one comes out with her head tilted to the side and a mic in once hand.

Doll: “Congratulations Cherry… You beat another challenger. And you said you want Piledriver Wrestling to bring in new ones for you to face. That seems to be a theme around here, don’t it? But I digress, because you missed out a very important piece of the puzzle… and it’s staring right at your face! That’s right, me. I’ve been winning match after match. I’m the one who beat your very first challenger, Raven Nightfall, but somehow I never got the opportunity she did. So I’m no longer waiting for management to make things right. I’m coming straight to you to lay down the challenge… if you think you can handle the Trauma.”

Chris “Nuzzle Bunny” Bruins vs Dario Shelton vs R.T. Kayfabe

Not much story or any kind of special rivalry behind this match, those involved still tried to tell a story in the ten or so minutes they had from bell to bell. What it essentially came down was Bruins’ charisma (and fans chanting “Nuzzle Bunny” at times) but lack of any particular in-ring skill, Shelton’s solid technique that barely popped the crowd and R.T. Kayfabes zany gimmick that he can back up with enough charisma and some legitimate grappling. Though Kayfabe may have been the best overall, the story was that he did get a bit carried away punishing Shelton for “not following kayfabe” (a smarky inside joke because he lacks any particular gimmick) and Bruins was able to slip in while R.T. taunted Shelton, take him out with a swinging neckbreaker and roll up Shelton for a quick three count.

Winner: Chris “Nuzzle Bunny” Bruins, by pinfall

The Peak Brothers © vs Henry Bennett & Skeeter Colquhoun

Unlike the chaos that is usually a Peak Brothers match, this contest was mostly contested inside the ring and with minimal use of weapons. Bennett’s technical prowess and Colquhoun’s high flying were an unexpected but effective combination that forced the champions to wrestle a more straightforward match than usual, switching their tactics into a more classic southern brawler style or throwing in some stiff Japanese-style blows. Despite taking Doug and Eddie out of their home territory of hardcore wrestling, the challengers were unable to also convert that into a title win and the brothers’ experience together shone through, allowing them to take out Bennet with a double team move to retain.

Winners: The Peak Brothers, by pinfall (Defences: 2)

7nXiDsK.jpg

eKotkFL.jpgNPRHszQ.jpgwz7M2oU.jpg

Big Cat Brandon made his entrance next, but he got cut off before he could reach the ring when former AMW wrestler “Whisky” Jack McCallister appeared from the crowd to attack him from behind. The two men had a brief but exciting brawl, with Brandon losing ground due to him being surprised. It was only when Cat E Tude, of all people, showed up to try and pull Whisky Jack away that Brandon was able to catch a breather, although PDW’s resident crazy cat lady paid for it with her own well being as she had her spine crushed against the guardrail by Jack. Cat E Tude’s sacrifice was not in vain though, because it allowed Brandon to regroup, forcing McCallister to a retreat as he gave chase.

O4CPt2M.jpgGIRKb76.jpg9sqxCKu.jpg

Black Eagle vs Blue Sky

Battle of the high flying masked luchadors once again, their previous bout in January having ended without a decisive winner when they both got counted out. With fans now having warmed up to the two men, the match had the crowd reaction to match the in-ring action as Eagle and Sky went back and forth in a fast paced and rather competitive contest. As it started to become apparent that Blue Sky was getting the upper hand and could outwrestle his opponent, Black Eagle turned the tables when he sprayed black mist in the face of his opponent to steal a pinfall win.

Winner: Black Eagle, by pinfall after cheating
