A Return 25 Years In The Making!

Watching the latest episode of TCW Presents Total Wrestling, it was safe to say that the itch was back for "The Sheriff" Ricky Dale Johnson. With how his career had gone he figured that he was ready to simply retire to his ranch down in Texas until the good Lord called him back home. But he was wrong. He sipped his beer, sat back in his La-Z-Boy chair and looked at the shimmering TWL Championship that hung from the wall next to taxidermized heads of bears. The title was a souvenir from Nero as Johnson had been faithful right up until TWL went under in 1995, even being their final champion. Whether, The Sheriff wanted to admit it or not, he had some unfinished business in the wrestling world. In a way it was fitting: the final champion of TWL attempting to bring it back to its former glory... </tr></td></table>

Filling Out The Roster - RDJ's Thoughts On The New Signees

Animal Harker - "One of the most underrated brawlers in the world today, kinda reminds me of the old days."

Findlay O'Farraday known as Big Bruiser Findlay - "can bring legitimacy to the new TWL and a future star."

Bobby Thomas - "a little bit of an older worker but can still go and maybe teach these youngins a thing or two about ring psychology."

Bradley Blaze - "might never be a true top star but I have soft spot for true Texas boys and he's one of 'em."

Cobra - "that snake gimmick is over and this is a kid who just gets it."

Ernest Youngman - "only in his mid-20s but already wrestles and acts like a seasoned vet; sky's the limit for him."

Giant Brody - "very few of the wrestlers today have the presence and look of Giant Brody; always a threat to be world champion."

Island Boy Apollo as Apollo - "one of the most impressive young men of his generation; world champion caliber talent."

James Diaz - "a spitting image of his daddy, I hope can end up being even half the talent he was."

Jason Patterson - "reminds me of me when I was first starting out, definitely gives the feeling of being back in the 80s."

Texas Hangman - "what isn't there to love about this kid. He's a huge guy with incredible presence and potential and is younger than my kids to boot."

Exciting start, I look forward to seeing where this goes. That's a great starting roster too, I'm particularly interested in seeing how Bradley Blaze gets on. He's one of my favourites in the 2020 CVerse after a good game I had with MAW.

The show gets underway when Ricky Dale Johnson's music hits and the fans go electric. Even though he's been retired for several years now, RDJ is as much as a showman as ever and takes a little bit of extra time soaking it all in.

Once he takes a few moments soaking in that TWL is truly back, he makes his way to the ring, in one hand a microphone and in another an object with a velvet cloth draped over it.

He enters the ring and once he's in the center of it, he begins his diatribe. "I just want to thank each and everyone of you for coming out to support us tonight," he begins, looking for a segue into his true intentions. "It's funny, the last time I was in a TWL ring was 25 years ago. I was a young kid who you guys believed in and who helped me become what I am. So much has changed since then," he continues, beginning to smirk a little, "but not everything."

The fans are intrigued at this point, wondering what he's getting at when he grabs at the velvet cloth and drops it onto the ground. Underneath the cloth was a shimmering belt that had been perched in Johnson's house for the better part of two decades and a title belt that had become nationally renowned in the 1980s and 1990s as something that men were willing to kill for.

The fans have started cheering at this point and they go even wilder when RDJ holds the title belt up in the air, its glowing light for all to see. "Which is why I am happy to present that the TWL Heavyweight championship is-"

RDJ is cut off by music, to be precise it is a sped up version of

. For several moments the arena is at a standstill, except for the music. Who would dare have the audacity to interrupt The Sheriff in a place like this? Many of the fans are no doubt wondering. They don't have to wait long for the mystery man to appear.

Standing at the top of the stage is the behemoth known currently as Big Bruiser Findlay and formerly as Findlay O'Farraday. He too as a mic in his hand and immediately begins to use it once he is on the stage. "You've talked long enough, old man. Do these people - and yourself - a favor and shut your mouth and hand that Heavyweight championship over." The crowd is maniacally booing Findlay despite him being relatively unknown in the territory but any man - world-renowned or total unknown - is getting booed when they come into The Sheriff's Home and try to order him around.

RDJ leans across the top rope, eyeing Findlay. "Y'know, son, I don't know you think you are, but you got some balls, kid. I'll give you that. Now, for your business of this here title," he says, looking down at the gold, "I think we both know that you're not just gonna waltz down and take it but here's what we can do. Since I respect the nerve on you, kid, you can be in the first TWL Heavyweight championship match at our next show against a mystery opponent. How does that grab you?"

Findlay looks like he is about to protest but then smugly smirks, "it doesn't really matter - in the end, you can put anyone in front of me and I will smash and destroy my way into becoming the TWL Heavyweight champion." With that, Findlay turned around and promptly walked to the back, his message clear.

RDJ wasn't far behind as he gave a few parting words to the fans before he too left the ring and walked to the back.

Jason Patterson vs Texas Hangman

In a very short match, Texas Hangman absolutely destroys Jason Patterson and ends the match with a Chokeslam in 2:46.

MATCH TWO

Apollo vs Quentin Queen

This match lasted a good bit longer than the first one - and was much, much better to boot. The crowd is really behind Apollo as he gets the win with his patented Island Driver over Quentin Queen in 5:59.

Grade: 44

MATCH THREE

Kip Keenan vs James Diaz

Kip Keenan put up a valiant effort in this brawl but the intensity, power, and raw aggression of James Diaz was too much for the former amateur wrestler as Diaz picks up the win with the Asian Thumb Spike in 5:55.

Grade: 41

Nate Demarcus hypes up his match against Giant Brody for next show: "this is a giant opportunity - no pun intended - for me to show the TWL fans exactly what I am capable of!"

MATCH THREE

Joffy Laine is on fire tonight (probably because this was the first time he was working his "hometown" for years and wanted to make sure the fans went home happy). Despite his bubbly gimmick, he's able to show a little of that Texas aggression that helped propel TWL all those years ago. Bobby Thomas is no slouch either; even though he's in the twilight of his career, he made Joffy Laine work hard for his meal though the end result is Laine winning with his Death Spiral in 11:28 (many wondered that perhaps is Laine tapped into that aggression more consistently if he could have beaten the elder statesman a little bit sooner).

Grade: 38

After the bell, Ernest Youngman jumps the barricade from seemingly nowhere and absolutely annihilates the battle-worn Joffy Laine! After several minutes of beating Laine down using his fists and his boots, Youngman exits the ring with the fans thinking he might be grabbing a microphone to explain himself but instead he hops over the same barricade he leapt over and runs up the steps, only pausing right before the exit to turn back to the crowd and the ring and throw his arms up in triumph at attacking and destroying Laine.

Grade: 37

SHOW NOTES:

Joffy Laine sustained a minor injury during the attack but he should be able to work throughout it with few limitations.

The fans were happy to see Ricky Dale Johnson but they were a little disappointed that TWL's first show in 25 years featured so few true 'stars'.

The show opens with Terry Smith, TWL's interviewer, walking to the ring unannounced and then Ernest Youngman's new theme song blaring on the PA:

Youngman appears on the stage and soaks up the boos for several seconds before waltzing down to the ring, mic in hand.

He casually steps in the ring, soaking up the boos for several more moments before Terry Smith gets down to business. "Hello ladies and gentleman, my name is Terry Smith and I am joined by Ernest Youngman, hopefully to get answers about his actions last week. Without taking up too much time, I have to ask first: why did you attack Joffy Laine?"

Youngman smirks at the audience and raises his microphone to his mouth, "it's quite simple really; Joffy Laine runs around, panders to the crowd, kisses the ugly babies around ringside," Youngman says, pointing to a few young children around ringside, "and acts like nothing but a do-gooder and to be honest, it makes me sick!" He proclaims. "The attack was to send a message to Laine - this is only the beginning and I'm gonna be gunning for him, which leaves him two choices: he can either tuck tail and run or show me some of that Texas spirit. Either way, I'm taking him out."

"That leads into my next question," Smith begins, "don't you think it's a little cowardly to, y'know, attack a man after he's wrestled?"

Youngman laughs the question off, "of course, someone like you would think that." He says, shaking his head and then motions around the arena, "what do you think is more cowardly: attacking a man after a match or tucking your tail between your legs and hiding from the guy that just kicked your ass?"

"With all due respect, Mr. Youngman, Mr. Laine isn't here tonight and is still nursing the concussion and cracked ribs that he suffered at your hand."

Youngman smugly laughed again, "if that's what he says. If I have to prove to you and these people that I'm no coward then so be it, I have said from the start and I will say it again: I am here to end Joffy Laine. And with that, I am laying down the challenge for next month's March Mayhem - Joffy Laine, if you have the guts, face me man to man and see how much of a coward I really am." With those parting words, Youngman turned his back on Smith before uttering his final goodbyes, "this interview's over." He said before dropping the mic and leaving the ring, his music resuming right where it had left off.

In his debut match, Giant Brody lives up to the hype as he absolutely destroys Nate DeMarcus, who was swarmed as soon as the bell rang. Inexperience played a huge factor in this one as DeMarcus was still fidgeting with his gear when the bell sounded and gave Brody a distinct edge. Brody would go on to win this match in 3:11 with a Single Handed Chokeslam.

In a backstage segment, the Texas Hangman and James Diaz bump into each other. At first there seems to be palpable tension and perhaps a brawl is on the horizon but in the end, the two end up sizing each other up, giving each other menacing glares and then walking in opposite directions...

A debut that fans have been waiting for since the day TWL's roster was announced is finally here as Bradley Blaze makes his way to the ring with the backing of

This match is a very good and surprisingly goes over 10 minutes in what amounts to be a showcase match for Blaze who ends up picking up the win over Tennessee William in 11:16 with the Dallas Drop.

In the most anticipated match of the night, Big Bruiser Findlay comes out to the chagrin of the audience but he is clearly not perturbed and doesn't seem to even see the audience at all; he is focused but calm.

Once Findlay has entered the ring, Ricky Dale Johnson comes out to a massive ovation from the fans, some of whom are clearly thinking that he may step into the ring himself. He instantly squashes this, "I'm sorry to all of you hard-working folks, but I have to say that it isn't me who'll be stepping into that ring to face the Bruiser." Instantly, boos erupt and the near 200 fans sound closer to 2000, but the Sheriff laughs this off, "now, maybe if this was 15 years ago, you'd have seen me lock horns with that moose in there," he says, pointing to Findlay before dropping the finger, "but not even the Sheriff can arrest time. Enough about that, it's time to bring out a man who I have not only known for years and has wrestled the world over but someone who I think, is one of the fiercest wrestlers alive today!"

The anticipation has swelled up and the fans are expecting greatness to walk out of the curtain, hoping for someone who can shut Findlay's mouth. "That man is Madman Boone!" Johnson shouts and motions to the curtain before Boone appears.

The fans are still chanting, grateful to see a true legend but it is clear that some of the excitement has died down; while still a legend, time has been even worse to him than it had been to normal wrestlers. However, this had never stopped Boone from working his tail off and it was clear that tonight Boone was on a mission - for himself or for his friend, it was not clear.

For The TWL Championship</div>

Despite being on a mission, Madman Boone is demolished by the younger, faster, and stronger Big Bruiser Findlay. Boone attempts to put up a valiant fight but gets next to no offense as Findlay eats the few punches he does get and gives Boone receipts with more than just a little extra. The match comes to a merciful conclusion when Findlay drills Boone with his Atomic Spinebuster and gets the fall in 4:32.

With the match over, Big Bruiser Findlay shouts at a ring worker, "give me my damn belt and give me a mic!" Without hesitation, the worker gets both for Findlay who promptly displays the shiny belt on his massive shoulder and raises the microphone to his lips. "This is the best you could bring me?" Findlay demands to Ricky Dale Johnson who has come out, showing clear concern to his friend. Findlay looks down at Boone with clear disdain and boots him out of the ring, "get this trash out of my ring." He wipes the sweat from his forehead, "I came in tonight expecting a fight and all I got was a geriatric circus show so no more of your games Johnson. I want competition and I want it now, give me what I want!"

Before Johnson can oblige - or even answer - a familiar song has started playing as Bradley Blaze interrupts the heated confrontation.

Blaze too has a mic in his hand, "y'know, big guy, you don't have to go to the Sheriff to find competition when I'm standing right here. If you're looking for a challenger, then I'm your huckleberry." While Johnson doesn't make the match official, he plays into the crowd who are clearly loving the idea of a hometown boy taking Findlay down and the show ends with Blaze and Findlay having a staredown while Johnson helps Boone to the back.

Despite not being overly popular in the states and having only two appearances in TWL, the fans have already started to buy into Apollo as a potential upper tier babyface.

Despite being decently charismatic and more over with the fans than much of the roster, Bradley Blaze does not seem to have the gift of gab and it might hurt his overall presentation and future prospects if he isn't careful.
