USPW: Hegemony

USPW: Hegemony

This is my least favorite part of the job. I play a billionaire on TV, but now I have to call a real billionaire and ask for money. USPW is a juggernaut, we've made tons of money, we're the #1 wrestling organization in the world... but I'm trying to spend a LOT of money. For that we need to call the boss.

LL00kKm.jpgOJlI9JC.png0RTVfsF.jpg

Paul Parsons:
"Allen, have you had a chance to review my proposal?"

Allen Packer:
"I did. This is a ton of money, Paul."

Paul Parsons:
"It's an investment, Allen. Right now USPW is #1, but SWF has Remo, Rocky Golden and a huge advantage with the 18-25 demo. TCW is regrouping in San Antonio with BriCo money and a workrate heavy product and some young stars. If we want to stay #1 we've got to leverage our financial advantage. We could either wait for contracts to expire and poach top talent around the world, or invest in our own roster and our own talent development machine and leave the competition in the dust. SWF has a performance center and a development territory, we don't. If we put my plan into action this investment is going to pay for itself in a year..."

Allen Packer:
"I love your passion Paul but if we're already number one it's hard to justify pumping in this amount of cash."

Paul Parsons:
"Reverie was the first streaming service, but there's going to be others. If we solidify USPW as the #1 wrestling product in the world. If we make it the top draw for years and Reverie's top show, that's not just an investment in USPW, but an investment in Reverie. With that investment we can push this company into a global entertainment juggernaut."

Allen Packer:
"..."

Paul Parsons:
"Well?"

Allen Packer:
"Let's do it. Make the arrangements, I'll authorize the proposal."

Paul Parsons:
"Thanks Allen. You're not going to regret this."

Wow. It's happening. $5 million to open a child company, $14.5 million to open a state of the art performance center. Even the cash I wanted to raise the production level and roll out improved merch. (Have you seen the action figures BriCo puts out? And the advertising those toys bring every time someone walks through a Target?) Allen just gave me the money I needed to make sure that USPW was the top dog for years to come. Maybe forever. USPW hegemony was possible.

OOC: Hey everyone! I used to be on these boards as Skinsfan55 but changed my name due to the Washington Football Team dropping their old mascot. USPW is easily my favorite company and while part of that was because they were the plucky underdog, I want to really book them as the head of the table. With their financial muscle it's surprising they don't yet have a performance center, or a development territory but I guess that's something fun reserved for the players!

My plan is to build up the USPW roster rather than poaching talent. (That's not to say I won't sign anyone... or that I won't run the prices up

:p

) I don't think you need to poach to be successful here. USPW has a lot more < 40 talent than you think!

Anyway, the thing I find the easiest to write and the most fun is character heavy, behind the curtain style stuff like this.

I struggle sometimes with keeping a diary running because I run into tedium where writing out an episode of TV seems dull. I think I'm going to experiment with having my PC, Rich Money, do quicker recaps of TV shows in character, with a traditional presentation of PPVs. I like doing behind the scenes stuff with bookers, it helps me keep my thoughts straight.

Hope you guys are interested! Thanks!

Criminally underrated as a worker, Chris Caulfield is a USPW legend. He's not Tommy Cornell or Angry Gillmore or well, me but he could go. I liked working with him, and while I could have gotten his buddy Phil Vibert, Chris was probably more suited to this project anyway. He might be known as a daredevil and a hardcore icon, but he was in USPW longer than he was with DAVE. It was time to make the call.

Paul Parsons:
"Chris old pal, how's retirement treating you?"

Chris Caulfield:
"Going a little stir crazy, but I feel good. Knees are okay. Back isn't quite so sore. A year away from the business has done wonders."

Paul Parsons:
"Yeah, but it's hard to stay away from the business for long. It's always calling."

Chris Caulfield:
"Paul, I gotta stop you right there. I feel pretty good, but my bump card's pretty full. I'm not in ring shape anyway. I don't think I've got another run in me."

Paul Parsons:
"Well Chris, I'm thinking of something a little more front office focused. We decided to pump $5 million into the biggest development territory in the world: Stars and Stripes Wrestling... and basically I want you to be CEO and Booker."

Chris Caulfield:
"Huh, no kidding..."

Paul Parsons:
"It'd be a front office job, but I'd want you on the show. Your popularity is a big part of this, so I'm thinking you'd maybe be an on air authority figure, you'd hype these guys up... and if needed, very occasionally, get in the ring to show these young punks a thing or two."

Chris Caulfield:
"This sounds like a hell of an offer Paul. I gotta tell you, I'm interested."

Paul Parsons:
"Great. I'll send over some paperwork. By the way, how long do you think it'll take you to get into ring shape?"

Chris Caulfield:
"One to three months tops."

Stars and Stripes Wrestling... I had my booker, I had my CEO, I sent down Greenwood and Brent along with some in ring talent in desperate need of seasoning... maybe I'd let Chris handle the rest, but I'll make some offers out to indie stars and try and deliver him a roster.

Okay, I'm not a big USPW fan, but I love Caufield and you taught me a new word(hegemony), so I'm on board. Are you controlling Stars & Stripes Wrestling too? If so, are you going to post the results as part of the diary?

Thanks!

I think I'm just going to let Caulfield maintain control of SSW. I plan on having them run weekly events until maybe they can get a TV deal. What I plan to do is maybe post monthly updates and see how they're stacking up against PSW et al on the US scene. I expect them to start putting the screws to some of the smaller feds. Sorry, but I'm taking over US wrestling and then going global! :D

Caulfield is one of my favorites too and in 2010 (my first foray into the CVerse) he was the workhorse of USPW. His high psychology rating helped him pull good matches out of the worst of the scrubs on that roster.

You are doing what any sane player would do when playing as USPW and I am here for it.

I do enjoy the fact that a British guy wrote a scenario where the only sane thing to do with the flag waving USA wrestling company is to start spending money and taking over the country and then the world. He seems to have a pretty good grip on what we do here.

Crazily Novak carries this match as the young Texans are still establishing themselves and Karloff is nearing retirement. The story being told is that the younger wrestlers are bouncing back from the high powered offense, they're young, exciting, bumps and bruises heal up quick and they're able to stay alive against a dominant heel team. The end up pulling out the win! At around the 8 minute mark (decent length for USPW!) Coop and Novak tag out when Coop sprints over a hits both with a flying crossbody! Novak takes a powdering as Karloff bounces off the ropes into a big Lariat Clothesline from Turk! Reeling off the ropes again Turk grabs Karloff and hoists him up for a powerslam and the pin! Hey guys. Hope the first show was well received!

I want to encourage feedback and participation, but also... I don't really like running prediction contests. I used to write up a card and a promo for each match and it was a lot of work.

I hope people still have an incentive to follow along! I'm working on episode 2 right now!

I like how this show turned out. I think I could have gotten a higher score but as you can tell... I still tied the best of the big 3 and massively outsold them anyway. I think this makes the PPV better and it's how I think I'd book IRL. I like the idea of main eventing TV with multi man tags like classic WCW and WWF but Steve Frehley doesn't seem like someone who would be in a tag team or a stable. Neither does Enygma tbh. I'm trying to be more methodical and long term in my strategy... it should make the story better and it should keep me writing for a while.

Live on Reverie, from the Utah Park Reservation (15,000 in attendance) it's...

eXKjN6Y.png

JduXoAU.jpg

Justice Apologizes (80)

6eBOwCz.jpg

Justice opens the show but he's uncharacteristically morose. When he gets to the rings he apologizes to the fans. "When I took this job I wanted to make sure fans had a great experience and our talented locker room got the opportunities they deserve... and yet on the first night as commissioner a vicious attack on Running Wolf was carried out!" Justice promises as commissioner that this will not happen again!" Justice pulls it back and talks about how we can put that behind us, we still have a great show! Steve Frehley vs Rick Law! Enygma! Jett & Moor and others of yori favorite stars will be in action tonight!

Champion Heads to the Ring (83)

Im8T6jz.jpg

Nicky Champion's music thunders through the arena to a big pop! He comes right to the ring and is no nonsense. He tells Commissioner Justice that he demands retribution. He wants Rich Money one on one TONIGHT! Justice sympathizes but Money isn't in the building tonight... but at Stars, Stripes and Slams Nicky Champion can be booked in a match for the USPW World Championship! Nicky accepts, but he wants some payback, tonight he wants the two men who attacked his friend! Sterling Whitlock and Rajah! Justice asks, don't you want the two men who attacked you? No, Champion replies. They can wait.

Anthony Trask vs Bulldozer Brandon Smith (68)

vLNmQj9.jpgSEPNfdW.jpgh0EqM1r.jpg

The story told with Trask is that he's young and inexperienced and has a bad attitude but that he's extremely talented. Despite being a potential future star, he can't keep up with a vet like Bulldozer Smith. While he wrestles a competent, technical match and looks good in defeat, he still ends up tombstoned as Smith gets the pinfall victory!

Bulldozer Grabs a Mic (60/77)

h0EqM1r.jpg

Smith growls into the mic that this marks his 3rd year in USPW and he's not going anywhere! Trent Shaffer calls himself The Talent but if he had any real talent he'd win some matches cleanly! He'd have actually found some success these last three years instead of being all talk! But that's all moot now, because at Stars, Stripes and Slams, the Bulldozer is coming through!

Backstage Shaffer is furious, but Raven tells him not to pay any attention. They've got him right where they want him, and soon, they'll be on to bigger and better things.

Shockwave vs Natural Storm (70)

I9jERcs.jpgXHcbZH5.jpgSEPNfdW.jpgJwzq2iN.jpg1SBFDqz.jpg

Shockwave is a USPW throwback with two massive monster heels, but they can't be underestimated. Despite his age, Jumbo can still go (in short bursts) and Atlas is better than he gets credit for. Still... Natural Storm is Natural Storm! They're one of the most decorated teams in wrestling history! Storm gets their signature offense in, but Shockwave goes ultra old school heel team. They distract the ref, they get sneaky double teams, and they eventually get the upset win with Atlas using the ropes for leverage for the win! Next week it's Texas Express vs. Shockwave for the #1 Contendership!

Jillian Jarvis vs Missy Masterson (62)

G3b5c89.jpgSEPNfdW.jpgMtzLfeA.jpg

Jillian Jarvis has been on a bit of a hot streak lately and her opponent tonight is a Missy Masterson. It's a clash of styles with Masterson being a high flyer with lots of crowd work and traditional, colorful ring gear... where Jarvis is a pit fighter. She dresses in a tank top and jeans and looks like she'd bite your nose off in a bar fight. In a solid ten minute match, Jarvis wins, and doesn't let the referee raise her hand. She side eyes him and rolls out of the ring.

Quine on IG Live (69)

376ACdG.jpg

Quine is recording a social media post backstage, all smiles and laughing about Jillian Jarvis and Pariah. "Hey Quinelings! So I've been dominating USPW for years and soon I'm going to defend my USPW Women's Title against either a fed who doesn't even know how to wrestle or some trailer park princess and I can't wait. I'm going to kick one of their heads off and it's going to be hilarious. After that? Who knows, Alicia Strong is running her trap again. I might have to teach her a lesson too! TTFN!"

Rajah vs Nicky Champion (71)

urHXcdO.jpgSEPNfdW.jpgIm8T6jz.jpg

It's announced on commentary that members of The Business are banned from ringside. Despite this, Rajah struts to the ring with the blithe, idiotic confidence of someone who has never faced Nicky Champion one on one before. When Champion's music hits he sprints to the ring and beats the absolute stuffing out of Rajah. In a squash match that lasts a mere 3 minutes, Champion gets in all his signature offense and dominates the bout. Nicky is generally a sporting type, but after delivering the Hawkeye Hammer and the pin, Champion picks up his opponent and effortlessly hurls him over the tope rope. Before Rajah even hits the floor Nicky makes the "come on" hand gesture towards the ramp and Whitlock comes out, with considerably less gusto than his stablemate.

Sterling Whitlock vs Nicky Champion (84)

vCRFqWH.jpgSEPNfdW.jpgIm8T6jz.jpg

Whitlock stocks his way to the ring, and Champion lets him in clean. The men take their corners, but neither takes their eyes off the other. When the bell rings, Champion commences another beating. Whitlock fares a lot better though, but that's not saying a lot. In a 6 minute match Whitlock gets in a little offense but Nicky Champion is Sam Strong's Native American, bodybuilding, son he never had. He destroys Whitlock with a Hawkeye Hammer and pins him. When the 3 is counted he stands up and points at the hard cam, simply mouthing "you're next".

Frehley is Furious (92)

6eBOwCz.jpg7ncnXAu.jpg

We cut to Steve Frehley storming through the halls. He walks up to James Justice's office where just outside a low level functionary makes the worst mistake of his life by asking if The Dark Destroyer has an appointment. Predicable violence ensues as the assistant has his ears boxed before being Jazzy Jeff'd out of frame. Now unimpeded Frehley kicks in the door to Justice's office who stands up in surprise. Frehley is a man of few words but he grows at Justice about his direction in the company. He's been the best since the day he stepped into this lockerroom but he's not getting the shots that he's earned. This company just wants him to be second fiddle to Nicky Champion, a punk who couldn't carry his jockstrap so they're protecting him. Justice protests but Frehley cuts back in, Nicky Champion is wrestling for the USPW World Championship at Stars, Stripes and Slams while Frehley hasn't even gotten a match yet! Justice speaks passionately about USPW as a land of opportunity and promises Frehley that of course he's going to work at Stars, Stripes and Slams, but meanwhile he's in the MAIN EVENT with Rick Law so just chill, dude!" Frehley is clearly unsatisfied and claims there's consequences for disrespecting him before leaving. A chill is in the air as Justice realizes, he may have bitten off more than he can chew with this job.

Funky Fedora vs Enygma (62)

FdA62EL.jpgSEPNfdW.jpgIO1Dxid.jpg

Funky Fedora is a nice prospect with a bright future, but Enygma is a potential Hall of Immortals inductee. Enygma is smart, tough and just flat out knows how to wrestle. It's not entirely one sides, Fedora gets his stuff in, but Enygma targets Fedora's ankle through the match and eventually puts him away by making him submit to the Enygma Variation.

Thompson Seeks Revenge (85)

kopggu2.jpg

A man in a hoodie jumps the barricade at ringside with a chair! Wait a minute... it's Joss Thompson! He slides into the ring and stalks The Mysterious One! Enygma notices him and BAM the lights go out! When they return Enygma is gone... but a message flashes on the Titantron: IF YOU TRY TO TAKE SHORTCUTS YOU WILL BE DESTROYED AT STARS, STRIPES AND SLAMS."

Jett & Moor vs The Ring Generals (51)

jYa1t9C.jpgpvqTEP6.jpgSEPNfdW.jpgmPbYIoH.jpgeegxOdB.jpg

Jett & Moor say that while the #1 contender for their tag team titles is getting figured out, they're going to be the welcoming committee by hosting The Ring Generals! They're a tag team who's been tearing it down in Japan! The Generals come out and they are not gracious about this opportunity... they're here on business. It's an extremely even match where both of the Ring Generals look great. Jett and Moor maybe underestimated their opponents. They get outwrestled by two technicians but eventually the Tag Champs snap out of it and take down the newcomers. The Ring Generals are frustrated and head to the back with little fanfare.

Rick Law vs Rick Law (76)

8vewUer.jpgSEPNfdW.jpg7ncnXAu.jpg

Steve Frehley comes out hot looking to put his opponent away quickly but Rick Law is not someone you take lightly. The two men have a competitive, back and forth match with lots of action. Law looks great during the 15 minute bout, but eventually Frehley powers him up for a Frehley's Comet and finishes the match with a lazy pin.

Frehley is Furious (83)

6eBOwCz.jpg7ncnXAu.jpg

The Dark Destroyer grabs a mic and takes his grievances to the fans. He's been in this company for 6 years! Dominated the competition! But these fans are trash! They still cheer Nicky Champion! They protect him, they never let him face any real competition because they hate seeing their hero beaten and broken. Nicky's got everyone fooled, they think he's defending his friend Running Wolf, but did you ever think, the second Wolf was about to get a title shot, Nicky Champion raced right into World Title picture? What kind of company is this anyway? You've got James Justice who doesn't know his a...

Justice's music hits and he walks onto the ramp.

Steve, I hear you. You're feeling disrespected but don't worry dude, I got a match for you at Stars, Stripes and Slams... you're gonna face a former USPW World Champion, a 3 time TCW champion (from back when that used to mean something!), a superstar who's been rocking wrestling fans faces for three decades, brother! ME!

Frehley laughs off the challenge speaking off mic (think of the sponsors) about how he's gonna "break your old ass in half".

"And Steve... if you can beat me at Stars, Stripes and Slams I'll make sure you get a title shot!"

"You're on, sucka, but I don't care about no strap, son. I want Nicky Champion. I want to show the whole world once and for all who's top dog in this place!"

The show fades to black as the energy in the Utah Park Reservation is electric.

They're extremely businesslike and tough and technical, competent wrestlers. They look like Olympic style wrestlers up against two brawling, high energy Texans. Turk and Coop look like they head out to honkey tonks and close them down every night. If there's a scrap then they handle business. They're incredibly powerful, but the smarts and experience keep them in the match despite being physically outclassed. Late in the match, the momentum turns in The Muscle Monsters' favor. Juliette King is pummeling Sara Marie but just can't keep her down for a 3 count. Filled with rage she rips the turnbuckle cover off! Melody tries to intervene, the referee (who didn't see) stops her and she's helpless as Sara Marie is snake eyed into the exposed ring bolt! Melody side steps the referee and jumps onto King's back. She fires up but King turns around and slams her lower lumbar region into the unforgiving steel. He takes things out to a main event length but a frustrated Thompson hits him with a Clean Cutter out of nowhere and gets the pin clean in the middle of the ring. The 3 count is made as a disappointed, yet proud Jett and Persephone look on.</span></span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';"> </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';">

<p>OOC- I'm experimenting with my presentation style and as I work on the "go home" show for Stars, Stripes and Slams I'm putting it in a PowerPoint format. </p><p> </p><p>

I think this will save a lot of time since I'll have ready-made templates to use. I think it will make the shows a lot more visually interesting and cohesive too. </p><p> </p><p>

I'm never going to have them look as slick as Eisen-verse's amazingly professional looking stuff... but I'm a former teacher and I think my PowerPoint skills are okay. Hope people like the new look! I'm hoping to finish it by Friday and then it'll take me longer to get the PPV done (I'll post a card with storylines etc in advance of the show and then afterwards and in character breakdown of the state of the company to start February.</p>

Hey all!

I can't keep up this pace of doing a new show this often but:

A- I was really excited about switching formats

B- This method IS easier.

I hope you all like it. I love how low budget it looks. I'm working on it, I already have some of the PPV wrote and I think it looks a little sharper each time.

OOC- Hey all, I've decided to do a prediction contest only for each PPV since a lot of American Wrestling shows revolve around matches that probably won't be surprises. This is an unorthodox format, so I think I expect limited participation but I appreciate any feedback you all are willing to give! Thanks for reading! </div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p>

Edit: Editing this bit in, but in my opinion the limiting predictions to only the PPVs is much better as often diaries that don't do this can end up being incredibly cluttered and also like you said, many of them can be quite predictable.</p>

I think American Wrestling is still an exciting show, but also, I'm trying to be old school. A lot of the matches are to highlight the skills of the main eventers in advance of the monthly events. Weekly TV is for building a story.</p>

Hey, sorry to be a pain but I can't seem to get the link to work. Is there some sort of alternate link I might be able to use to see the show? (The link you used for the Jan W4 show worked)

You're not being a pain at all! Thanks for letting me know it wasn't showing up.

I updated the link sharing with Calameo instead of docdroid. Try clicking on the logo now and it should work. Thanks!
