The Day WCW Changed

Hulk Hogan: “Mean Gene, the first thing you need to do is to tell these people to shut up if you wanna' hear what I've got to say. The first thing you gotta' realize, brother, is this right here is the future of wrestling. You can call this the New World Order of Wrestling. These two men right here came from a great big organization up north and everybody was wondering who the third man was. Well, who knows more about that organization but me, brother? Let me tell you something. I made that organization a monster. I made people rich up there. I made the people that ran that organization rich up there. And when it all came to pass, the name Hulk Hogan, the man Hulk Hogan, got bigger than the whole organization. Billionaire Ted wanted to talk turkey with Hulk Hogan. Well, Billionaire Ted promised me movies, brother. Billionaire Ted promised me millions of dollars. Billionaire Ted promised me world caliber matches.

As far as Billionaire Ted goes, Eric Bischoff, and the whole WCW goes, I'm bored brother. That's why these two guys here, the so-called outsiders, these are the men I want as my friends. They are the new blood of professional wrestling. And not only are we going to take over the whole wrestling business with Hulk Hogan and the new blood, the monsters with me, we will destroy everything in our path, Mean Gene.

As far as I'm concerned, all of this crap in the ring represents these fans out here. For two years, brother, for two years I held my head high. I did everything for the charities. I did everything for the kids. And the reception I got when I got out here - you fans can stick it, brother. Because if it wasn't for Hulk Hogan you people wouldn't be here. If it wasn't for Hulk Hogan, Eric Bischoff would still be selling meat from a truck in Minneapolis. And if it wasn't for Hulk Hogan, all these Johnny Come Lately's that you see out here wrestling wouldn't be here. I was selling out the world, brother, while they were pumping gas in their car to get to high school.

So the way it is now, brother, with Hulk Hogan and the New World Organization of Wrestling, me and the new blood by my side, whatcha gonna do when the New World Organization runs wild on you.”

Monday Week 1 August 1996

The Go Home Show for Hog Wild

The Atmosphere around WCW has changed since the NWO founded. There’s a certain buzz as the Monday Night Wars are just getting hotter and hotter as WCW tries more risqué content and brings a new attitude to Monday Nitro. Although the important thing is that we don’t rest on our laurels and become complacent. We need to ride this momentum to victory!! All starting from tonight

Yeah the Syxx stuff is weird, cause obviously in real life he didn't debut until late September however the cruiserweight division needed the injection of star power- so I'm just gonna utilise the other meaning for the name Syxx- 1+2+3=Syxx

That makes sense for sure. Not trying to poke holes or anything either. WCW and the nWo were a massive part of my childhood and I love seeing different takes on it.

World Championship Wrestling Presents

Monday Night Nitro

Live in front of 8000 fans in the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Mississippi

Rating- 86

Tony Schiavone- Ladies and Gentlemen it is a Monday Night and you’re watching TNT which can only mean its time for World Championship Wrestling’s Monday Nitro! I’m Tony Schiavone and I am joined by Eric Bischoff and The Brain Bobby Heenan, Gentlemen run me through tonight’s card

Heenan- Well he’s a rat and I’ve been trying to tell you that for years, tonight’s main event sees the NWO of Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash take on the WCW World Heavyweight Champion The Giant and his Dungeon of Doom brethren Meng and The Barbarian!

Bischoff- Also the American Male Marcus Bagwell goes one on one with Kenny Kaos of High Voltage! And we hear from the Nature Boy Ric Flair and the Four Horsemen on their allegiances in the current WCW Climate

Heenan- One of the best technical wrestlers in the world The Righteous Lord Steven Regal goes one on one with The Dog Face Gremlin Rick Steiner

Bischoff- And Gentleman do we have a treat for the opener tonight as the cruiserweight division get an injection of fire as the debuting Syxx teams with Ultimate Dragon to take on the uncle and nephew team of Chavo Jr and Eddie Guerrero, with Cruiserweight title implications and that match is right now!

Angle- 56

In our Cruiserweight opener Syxx and Ultimate Dragon defeat Los Guerreros after a hard fought match, a good showing for all four men and really highlighting that Syxx and Eddy Guerrero could have the Cruiserweight Division built around them. In the end Ultimate Dragon locked Eddy Guerrero in the Dragon Sleeper after 16:28 and Eddy was forced to tap out.

After the match the Tony Schiavone announced that as the winning team Syxx and Ultimate Dragon would face off against Rey Misterio Jr in a Triple Threat match for the Cruiserweight Championship at Hog Wild this Sunday!

Match- 59

Post-Match Angle- 44

Lord Steven Regal comes out next for his match with Rick Steiner, both men coming out without their respective partners for a good show of sportsmanship in a one on one singles match. The Match is a technical classic and ends after Earl Robert Eaton and Squire David Taylor come through the crowd and hit Rick Steiner with two chair shots on the outside whilst Regal has the referee distracted. They then roll Steiner into the ring where he is immediately locked in the Regal Stetch and quickly loses consciousness after 18:33 giving Regal the victory by Submission.

After the match the Blue Bloods all get chairs and start wailing away on Rick Steiner before Scott Steiner comes charging from the back to chase the aristocrats away before grabbing a microphone and challenging The Blue Bloods for a Tag Team match this Sunday at Hog Wild. As the Blue Bloods retreat Regal shouts back that the Steiner’s are on!

Match- 71

Post-Match Angle- 67

Tag Team Action next as former WCW Tag Team Champion Pairing takes on a former NWA Tag Team Champion pairing. It’s the Rock “N” Roll Express vs The Nasty Boyz! The match goes just over 10 minutes and after the high flying cruiserweight action and the technical wizardry that preluded this it was a perfect story telling match to calm down the crowd. After 10:06 Ricky Morton goes to the top rope and hits and Missile Dropkick on Jerry Sags to get the victory for the Rock “n” Roll Express!

Match- 67

The Four Horsemen make their entrance all dressed up in fancy suits and make their way down to the ring. When they arrive Ric Flair grabs a microphone while Benoit, Anderson and Mongo all stand stoically behind him

Flair- In this life there are a lot of pretenders and very few actual megastars, ya see a megastar is a Stylin', profilin', limousine riding, jet flying, kiss-stealing, wheelin' n' dealin' son of a gun called Ric Flair. A megastar is the tough enforcer who will break your spine as easily as I break a bed, Arn Anderson. A megastar is the man who will steal your girl and flaunt it on national television like Chris Benoit. A Megastar is the Superbowl winning, Two Time Pro Bowling Steve “Mongo” McMichael. A Megastar is the Four Horseman, now you can come to WCW proclaiming your New World Order but remember this. WCW is and forever will be Horsemen territory and there will never be any tougher Son’s of Bitches than us!

Angle- 100

The Camera cuts backstage as the Horsemen’s music plays where Mean Gen Okerlund is accompanied by Sting and Lex Luger- Sting gets on the mic

Sting- You know, if there is one thing I never expected myself to say, its that I agree with Ric Flair. That man has been a burden on my life for as long as I have been in WCW but right now there are bigger problems to deal with

Luger- WCW is no place for a New World Order, this is where the sanctity of Professional Wrestling is held so Hogan, Hall and Nash if they want to try and make a mockery of Wrestling then they should head back North from where they came from. And we want to be the ones to send them packing

Sting- Damn Right that’s why this Sunday at Hog Wild we challenge Hall and Nash again however this time no third man to turn his back on this company. Just the four of us inside that ring, settling things the way they should be settled. In a Wrestling Match!

Angle- 71

Back in the ring as we have singles action next as The American Male Marcus Bagwell takes on High Voltage Kenny Kaos. It’s a pretty straight forward victory for Marcus Bagwell who picks up the Victory in 11:29, pinning Kaos with the Yellow Jacket Suplex

Match- 45

We go backstage as Randy Savage is seen sat in the locker room in an almost pensive way. He speaks abnormally quietly into the camera.

Savage: Every Action has its consequences and eventually they will catch up to you. Years ago I got bitter, I got angry and I got jealous and it cost me one of my closest friendships for years. I thought I had served my punishment for my wrongdoings, but I was wrong. Eventually Karma comes for everyone, and now curtesy of Hulk Hogan my Karma has been served.

Angle- 96

Now its time for the MAIN EVENT of the Evening as the NWO takes on the Dungeon of Doom. Hogan has deep history with all 3 of his opponents tonight so he should have a good understanding of how to beat them! The match gets all its spots done in a short time but the crowd is electric and lifts this match into another level as after only 9:36 Hogan hits the big book and Atomic Leg Drop onto Meng to pick up the victory for the New World Order!

After the match all three members of the NWO work together to beat down the Giant ending with Hogan bodyslamming him to the mat and hitting another atomic leg drop. All three of them grab and mic and Scott Hall speaks first

Hall- Hey yo, Sting, Luger. Where you at, you claim to want to rid us from WCW yet you’re just letting us do whatever the hell we want. Of course you are, cause we run this town and you know there is nothing you can do about it!

Nash- So ya know what, you guys are on. This Sunday we will fight the two of you and maybe we will go back up North who knows but right now all that matters is that the New World Order runs WCW

Hogan- And let me tell you Brother, if you think that anyone is getting in the way of me winning the WCW World Heavyweight championship let alone this puny mimick of a Giant then you’ve got another thing coming. Cause this Sunday the NWO walks out of Hog Wild with this company completely captive cause WHAT YOU GONNA DO, WHEN THE NEW WORLD ORDER RUNS WILD ON WCW

Hog Wild 1996!!

<div style="padding: 20px;border: 2px solid #000000;border-radius: 25px;margin:15px;background: #dddddd; max-width:100%;";">

WCW presents Hog Wild 1996

Michael Buffer- Ladies and Gentlemen, Live from Little Rock, Arkansas. World Championship Wrestling presents HOG WILD!

Pre-Show

The Opening Match on the pre-show featured the Armstrong Gang against 2 Rookies who had been working the Canadian Independent scene for the past year and this was their chance to prove themselves on a much bigger stage. Ladies and Gentlemen Adam Copeland and Christian Cage- The Suicide Blondes!!

The Suicide Blondes didn’t get much of a reaction, but they performed decently in the ring working effortlessly together and quickly started to get the still arriving crowd on their side. In the end they picked up the victory after 13 minutes when Adam Copeland pinned Scott Armstrong with the Implant DDT

Match- 37

The Second Pre-Show match featured the American Males of Marcus Bagwell and Scotty Riggs taking on the High Voltage Team of Kenny Kaos and Robbie Rage. A shorter match here as we don’t see much potential in most of the participants in the match- Only really Marcus Bagwell having any glimmer of hope. And again this match prioritised getting Bagwell over as he picked up the win pinning Robbie Rage after 11:23 with the Yellow Jacket Suplex

Match- 41

Main Show

The Main Card Opens with a Pyrotechnics display before the cruiserweights start making their entrance to start this show off with a bang! It was announced during the week that WCW was in talks with some new international cruiserweight. This was all true! First entering the ring is the team of Billy Kidman and Juventud Guerrera, and making their WCW debuts the team of Gedo and Jado- A Japanese Super Junior Tag Team who have worked predominantly with NJPW and WAR, and Psycosis the luchador formally of AAA and ECW!!

And their opponents- Firstly the two we know Eddy Guerrero and Chris Jericho, two great cruiserweights with the potential to become so much more. Next, the Technical Maestro Lance Storm, Chris Jericho’s tag team partner from his early days on the Canadian Independent Market. Secondly, making his American debut the former FMW Independent Junior Heavyweight Champion- TAKA Michinoku!! And finally the 4th of his name, already represents a legend Tiger Mask IV!!

The 10 Cruiserweights have a good match showing off all of the new talent that we have signed, in the end Lance Storm locked Billy Kidman in a half Boston Crab tapping him out after 16.20!!

Match-45

The Four Horsemen are represented here as Chris Benoit finishes his rivalry with Dean Malenko as two of the best technical wrestlers in the world lock up in a battle of attrition. The two workers had great chemistry together and created a really strong match which Benoit won after 19.07 with the Crossface

Match- 74

Next for the WCW World Tag Team Championships Harlem Heat defend against The Rock “N” Roll Express. The veteran tag team vs the more modern style worked well together as the teams told a strong story regarding Gibson and Morton never having won this variation of the WCW Tag Team Titles. The match was quite evenly split with both teams getting close near falls and nearly winning but in the end Booker T hit the Harlem Hangover onto Ricky Morton while Stevie Ray held Robert Gibson outside the ring giving Harlem Heat the victory and retaining their WCW World Tag Team titles in 17:08

Match- 66

Next for the WCW World Cruiserweight Championship- AAA’s Rey Misterio Jr defends against Syxx and Ultimate Dragon. The 3 Highflyers put on a compelling but quick match fitting high flying spots and technical wizardry into just 7:49. In the end however Rey Misterio Jr got taken out after a Suicide DDT from Ultimate Dragon before Dragon attempted to lock the Dragon Sleeper onto Syxx who hit a low blow onto the Dragon and locked in his own Dragon Sleeper, forcing the Dragon to tap to his own move.

AND NEW WCW World Cruiserweight Champion- Syxx

Match- 68

Ric Flair is backstage, and he grabs the mic connected to the tannoid system in the Arena. He challenges anyone to come to the ring and challenge him for the WCW United States Championship. Any age, any experience, debut or regular roster member. He doesn’t care, he just wants to fight.

Flair then makes his entrance to the ring and is answered by Randy Savage, still more subdued than you would expect the two legends put on a strong match accentuating each other’s strengths and with Flair targeting Savages psyche by using some of Hulk Hogan’s moves against him including the finishing sequence where Flair hits a bodyslam and big boot before locking in the figure four leglock on Savage to pick up the victory and retain his United States championship in 19:50

Angle- 100

Match- 88

The Bronze match up next is The Steiner Brothers taking on The Blue Bloods represented by Lord Steven Regal and Squire David Taylor with Earl Robert Eaton at ringside. The Technical Blue Bloods target Rick Steiner’s leg that they had attacked with the chairs on Nitro splitting the ring so that Scott Steiner can’t get into the match. However eventually their efforts were all in vain as Earl Robert Eaton accidently tripped David Taylor rather than Rick Steiner as they were running the ropes allowing for Steiner to tag out to his brother for the Hot Tag- Scott ran wild on the match throwing the Brits around like they were pebbles with Suplex after Suplex after Suplex. The ending sequence happened when Scott Steiner hit his patented Fallaway Moonsault Slam from the top rope before locking in the Steiner Recliner on David Taylor to pick up the victory for the Steiner Brothers in 16.42

Match- 68

Semi-Main Event next as the New World Order of Scott Hall and Kevin Nash take on team WCW represented by Sting and Lex Luger! Fighting for the soul of WCW gives this match massive crowd reactions as the ring is pelted with rubbish before the match even starts. When the match is finally able the start the crowd are behind everything that Sting and Luger do, and vigorously hating the actions of the Men from up North. However a low blow behind the referees back from Scott Hall onto Sting takes away the last fight left in Stings body as he becomes a limp ragdoll for Scott Hall to hit the Outsider’s Edge for the victory in 15:43

Match—83

And now it’s time for the MAIN EVENT of the evening. For the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, The Giant accompanied by Kevin Sullivan, Meng and The Barbarian take on Hollywood Hulk Hogan accompanied by Kevin Nash and Scott Hall. The crowd is electric before the match even gets going. The Giant ragdolls Hogan around to abnormal babyface reactions for the heel stable but right now anyone that is going against the New World Order is babyface in the eyes of the crowd. The Final Sequence comes when The Dungeon of Doom and The Outsiders start brawling on the outside allowing Hogan to hit The Giant with the World Championship. This is followed up by the bodyslam and leg drop for Hulk Hogan to have reclaimed the WCW World Heavyweight Championship in 19:06. News before Monday Nitro!

Before Hog Wild, Robert Gibson left the locker Room in a mess and Randy Savage ordered him to buy a crate of beers for the boys

WCW signed a TV deal with TV Asahi to put Nitro on the Air in Japan until August 2001!! WCW also signed a similar 5 Year deal with Eurosport guaranteeing Nitro’s international presence for the foreseeable future

ECW held ECW The Doctor is In headlined by Terry Gordy defeating Raven to become the new ECW World Heavyweight Champion which brings into question Raven's future with the promotion as both WWF and WCW have been sniffing around the contract status of the now former ECW Champion

Although while all the focus was on Raven its Terry Gordy who makes headlines as just a day after winning the ECW World Heavyweight Championship it is announced that he has signed full time with AJPW. Who knows if Paul Heyman knew about this potential deal or has Terry Gordy been playing Heyman to benefit himself. How will ECW handle this shocking turn of events

I would watch that!

Slightly disappointing score for the 10 man cruiser battle but in reality I think that'd be the match I'd be most interested in.

Good card.

Its one of the frustrating things with the style of product that WCW put on. As ratings are mainly based on Popularity with the product its tough for the matches which would probably be technically better to compete with the higher popularity stars

Nitro News-

Pat Tanaka was sent home from WCW Nitro after arriving intoxicated and in no condition to work. Reports state this didn’t change any plans.

Robert Gibson made up for his Hog Wild mess by lifting the locker room morale by bringing in a Karaoke machine.

The Giant was put in front of Wrestlers court for failing to follow traditional wrestling etiquette, reports are unclear as to what his specific crime was but its rumoured that some of the younger roster members are shocked by how trivial it is.

Monday Week 2 August 1996-

Monday Nitro- Manley Field House- Syracuse New York- 7,906

Tony Schiavone- In Syracuse, New York- Live in Front of almost 8000 passionate fans, Its Monday Night, you’re watching TNT and that can only mean its time for Monday Nitro!! As Always joined by Bobby “The Brain” Heenan and Eric Bischoff, Gentleman run me through what we can expect on tonight’s packed episode of Nitro!

Bischoff- Well after his victory as Hog Wild, new WCW World Heavyweight Champion Hollywood Hulk Hogan will be in the building tonight as we deal with the consequences of the NWO holding the top title in professional wrestling.

Heenan- And Speaking of Titles, the Television championship will be on the line tonight as The Total Package Lex Luger defends against the righteous one Lord Steven Regal!

Bischoff- And tonight’s opening match will see the Cruiserweights of WCW competing in a battle royal, with the winner fighting former Champion Rey Misterio Jr for the chance to fight Syxx for the Cruiserweight championship. And speaking of that match Dusty Rhodes is backstage with some more information on the new cruiserweights that showed up at Hog Wild

Angle- 51

Rhodes- On Sunday Night Six Men Entered the Cruiserweight division in WCW for the first time, hoping to make a sudden impact on the landscape of the division, well tonight they have the chance to do that but before then lets get to know them all a little bit better.

TAKA Michinoku- 22 Years old from Iwate Japan, Stands at 5ft 9 and weighs 172lbs. Uses the Michinoku Driver to finish of his opponents and is looking to bring the trainings of the Great Sasuke to WCW

Tiger Mask IV- Wearing the legendary Tiger Mask passed down to him from the initial Tiger Mask Satoru Sayama, this 25 year old already has the legacy of 20 years in the land of the rising sun just on his face. But of course wearing such an iconic mask also comes with pressure for the 5ft 8, 187lb man from Urayasu, Japan, but he will be hoping that the Tiger Driver will be enough to push him towards the WCW Cruiserweight Championship

Lance Storm- One man who already has connections in the WCW Cruiserweight scene is Lance Storm, the tag team partner and long time friend of Chris Jericho will know that in the Cruiserweight wars in WCW that its every man for themselves but the 5ft 11 204lb man has got a size advantage over most men in the cruiserweight division and his technical prowess will lead to a lot of people being locked in the Maple Leaf

Psicosis- Another man with history under the rugs in WCW is Psicosis, in Mexico he has had a legendary feud against the former cruiserweight champion Rey Misterio Jr. Surely he will be hoping to win this battle royal just to get another shot at his former foe. Standing at 5’11 and weighing 200lbs he will be hoping the Psycho Stunner and push him into the forefront of WCW

Gedo + Jado- Former Three Time UWA Tag Team Champions, Five Time WAR Six Man Tag Team Champions- Two WAR International Junior Heavyweight Championships for Gedo, One Super J-Cup final and many more achievements, Gedo and Jado the World Class Tag Team have done it all and they’re still only 27, Gedo standing at 5’9 190lbs and Jado at 5’7 180lbs both the Cruiserweight Division and the Tag Team division needs to be weary of Gedo and Jado

Kaz Hayashi- The Mystery Man amongst all the debuts, as tonight is his WCW debut, he didn’t appear on Hog Wild because he was in Michinoku Pro Wrestling winning their Junior Heavyweight championship- A Valid Excuse I would say. Standing 5’9 and weighing 190lbs lets see what Hayashi can do tonight

Angle- 76

Winner- Eddy Guerrero

Match- 49

After the match it is announced officially that next week on Nitro Eddy Guerrero will fight Rey Misterio Jr for the number one contender role for the Cruiserweight Championship

Angle- 73

The Camera goes backstage to the Locker Room where Sting and Randy Savage are just sat staring at the floor not talking to each other before Sting softly looks towards the ceiling and gets up to leave the locker room leaving Savage all on his own.

Angle-86

Adam Copeland and Christian Cage are walking backstage after Copelands’s appearance in the battle royal and they bump into the Rock “n” Roll Express. Copeland and Cage explain to the elder statesmen how they used to watch their NWA title matches during the 80’s and that they are grateful to be able to work with them in the future.

Angle- 45

The Next match feature NJPW talent Manubu Nakanishi with Sonny Onoo taking on AAA talent Konnan in a WCW ring. Absolutely simple! In the end the lucha stylings won out when Konnan locked in the Tequilla Sunrise onto Nakanishi forcing him to tap out quickly.

Match- 47

A Big Limo pulls up to the arena and out steps Hollywood Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, The New World Order of Professional Wrestling. Gene Okerlund jumps in for an interview asking why they’re arriving so late to the arena, but Hogan just repeats that the NWO runs WCW, and they can do whatever they want, cause they know they wont be punished for it.

Angle- 100

From the fancy riches of the NWO we travel to the other end of the scale as having lost the World Heavyweight title the Dungeon of Doom is struggling to coexist and keep its power. Kevin Sullivan says that he will train the entire Dungeon to be able to beat the NWO and that once they reach their full potential they will be completely unstoppable.

Angle- 78

Almost to prove Sullivans point Meng goes to the ring to fight Disco Inferno…. Well I say fight, I actually mean murder- Two superkicks from Meng and Disco is already seeing the lights and I’ve been talking about this match for much longer than it actually would have been so moving on

Match- 43

After the match we cut backstage to an Interview with WCW World Tag Team Champions Harlem Heat as they discuss where their title reign goes from here after making their first defence at Hog Wild, they get interrupted by the team that they beat for the Tag Titles, the Steiner Brothers who beat the Blue Bloods at Hog Wild. They cut a promo saying that they want their Titles back now with Scott Steiner getting into Booker T’s face and vowing that they will be doing this forever.

Angle- 60

We return to the locker room where Randy Savage was sat pensively, he has barely moved at all and is still sat completely silently. Into the room walks Ric Flair, the man who beat Savage at Hog Wild using Psychological Warfare and Hulk Hogan’s move set. But whilst you would expect Flair to be gloating after such a victory, there is a sincere nature to Flair’s actions. He sits down next to his vanquished foe and starts talking about all the people he has betrayed in the past and how that all affected him. And that right now there’s a lot of animosity in the locker room but maybe this NWO ordeal and Hogan betraying everyone including Savage could produce some, interesting alliances

Angle- 100

This then leads to the ring where Chris Benoit, Arn Anderson and Steve Mongo McMichael squash some local enhancement talent in a few minutes while Flair-less picking up the win when Chris Benoit tapped out a nameless Jobber

Match- 42

For the WCW World Television Championship

Finally its time for the Main Event of the evening as Lex Luger puts his Television Championship on the line against Lord Steven Regal- this match was decided by lottery draw on WCW online the new use of the World Wide Web to get closer to your favourite wresters.

Luger’s power against Regal’s technique creates an interesting dynamic for the match, with the villainous smaller guy taking on the Powerful larger good guy but the two athletes are consummate professionals and made the odd dynamic work amazingly. In the end Luger had cleared off interference from Taylor and Eaton but when Luger accidently hits the referee while lifting Regal up for the torture rack this allowed NWO Hall and Nash to charge to the ring and hit Luger with the Outsiders Edge which when the referee wakes up allowed Regal to pick up the victory and become the NEW WCW World Television Champion!!

After the match the Blue Bloods evacuate as Hogan comes down to the ring, Luger keeps trying to get back onto his feet and fight back against the NWO but the 3-on-1 advantage that the NWO have keeps Luger down and allows Hogan to hit the Leg Drop to stand tall at the end of the episode of Nitro
