A Fairies Choice – A Natsupoi Character Focus

 

 

The sound of a door softly closing is quickly followed by a small thud.

 

Emerging from Rossy Ogawa’s office, Natsupoi’s forehead is now resting against a wall, as she slowly takes a deep breath in … and out. Whilst the performance meeting with her boss went well, keeping up the idol like image for her fans, peers and management is absolutely draining.

 

Speaking of peers, she feels a tap on her shoulder and so she plasters on a smile before turning around. Surprisingly, considering they’ve never had a one-on-one conversation since she arrived in DDM at the start of the year, the woman in front of her is “The Toxic Spider” Thekla.

 

“Boo!” Thekla exclaims, gleeful that this makes Natsupoi flinch. “Relax, weak fairy-chan, I was only coming over to definitely not listen in on the weakest DDM member!” Thekla’s grin grows as Natsupoi is fighting with herself to not give Thekla an inch.

 

Emboldened by her belief that cracks in Natsupoi’s demeanour are opening up, Thekla pounces by leaning in close and whispering “Hey, make sure you take your bosses advice, to be a good girl and stay in your place. There is a reason why you aren’t trusted to become anything more than a support player” She pats her SWA belt and takes a half step back to wiggle her jaw at Natsupoi “because at the end of the day…”

 

Thekla is cut off by an approaching noise, which turns out to be Giulia & the rest of DDM heading around the corner.

 

“Oi, Thekla, Poi, hurry up!” Giulia calls “We need to check on MIRAI then head off for our run!”

 

Whilst Thekla joins the front of the pack, Natsupoi collects herself before inwardly rolling her eyes at MIRAI’s obvious faking of injury, to cover over her miserable white belt challenge and to avoid the upcoming gruelling unit run.

 

Just before the door to MIRAI’s bed, a grab on the arm pulls Poi into the opposite room, as Himeka shuts the door behind her.

 

“What was that” Himeka questions “… Don’t brush me off, we’ve been through this before, in order to progress in this company, we need to start working through our problems together”

 

Natsupoi’s head drops as she is unable to describe the conversation she has just had.

 

Himeka squats in front of her to say “Look I’m not sure what happened in your performance meeting, or if Thekla said something but I believe in you, DDM believes in you, the question is do you believe in yourself? You’ve got a choice, either wallow away feeling sorry for yourself, or pick yourself back up and push forward with our support”

 

Himeka’s now outstretched hand is eventually clasped by Natsupoi, who seems to want to step up and fight!

A match I’d love to see in real life (especially after I called Black Desire challenging FWC irl) AZM facing her former best friend and rival QQ leader should be awesome to watch.

 

Momo refusing AZM a singles match again is frustrating for her but will pay off. This combined with the wild card of Utami yet to make her mark on this diary should produce an awesome match.

The fact this match is third on the card, highlights how stacked this roster is!

Match Overview:

Tora calls on Hazuki to open for her team, but once the bell ring she immediately tags out to Saki Kashima.

 

Tora really off her game hurt her performance, as minimal in ring time meant the other Oedo Tai members were thrown off slightly too, leading to STARS having more comeback offence than they expected.

Suzu shushes Risa down to take the leadership role in this tag team match. After already dispatching Tam during her white belt defence on the most recent tour, Suzu will enjoy bringing the hurt to Giulia’s world once again.

 

Match Overview:

Suzu & Tam start, calling back to their title match with some slick exchanges. Suzu & Risa work over Tam, with Suzu constantly asking for tags after Risa gets 1 minute of offence in.

 

When Tam finally makes it to Giulia for the hot tag, Giulia enters with a fury we haven’t seen in STARDOM, making a point to attack both Prominence members at the same time.

 

Suzu tags out towards the end of the match, not attempting to break up pins, as Risa fights but eventually succumbs to a Glorious Bomb.

AZM just wants the games to stop. She isn’t looking forward to fighting her friend Utami & her former friend Momo but she has to play the game in order to get what she really wants, Momo 1v1.

 

Momo Watanabe:

Momo is looking forward to the chaos. She will try to ignore AZM and focus on “the former top star Utami”.

 

Utami Hayashishita:

Utami didn’t want to get dragged into this but will always stick up for AZM and can’t wait get her hands on Momo.

 

Match Overview:

As expected QQ team up to gain the early advantage, until a miscommunication aggravates Utami, turning the fight into a true triple threat.

 

Momo locks Utami in a Crossface chickenwing halfway through the bout, whilst yelling at AZM to watch and learn or to do something! AZM does pause for a moment, before kicking Momo off Utami.

 

Finish comes as finishers are thrown all around, until Utami is dropped on the back of her head with a brutal B-Driver, AZM slides in to check on her as Momo rolls away to the corner, she climbs the top turnbuckle and hits AZM with her Top Rope Diving Somato and pins her next to a dazed Utami.

Saya is confident she can be the light to stop the darkness. She hopes she’s picked up enough technique from AZM to push forward and win this title.

 

Starlight Kid:

Starlight mocks Kamitani’s lack of true High Speed match experience, mocking her chances as a “high-speed rookie”.

 

Match Overview:

Despite Saya beating Starlight on both occasions they fought in the past, this is a whole new Dark Starlight Kid and whilst Kamitani just about keeps up with Kid in terms of speed, SLK uses some cheap shots and quick eye pokes (out of view of the referee) to stay on top in the early going.

 

AZM encouragement attempts to galvanize Kamitani work momentarily but Kid is in top form and is able to stay one step ahead.

 

As Kid looks to finish the match off, she winds up for a 619, but Saya catches her legs as they swing through the ropes, and in the wheelbarrow position slams Kid hard into the mat! Kamitani crawls up to the top rope and hits a desperation Phoenix Splash, which is too strong for Kid to kick out of.

Himeka leads the promo hyping up her friend, who doesn’t believe in the complements that Himeka is giving her, Himeka promises to work on this.

 

Match Overview:

Mayu opened the contest like a hurricane, leaving Natsupoi no choice but to struggle against the storm and rely on Himeka to break up a couple of pin attempts early on!

 

Himeka and Iida were able to trade hard hitting blows during the middle portion as Natsupoi slowly grew into the contest.

 

Isolating Iida from the immense Mayu Iwatani proved successful, as Natsupoi finally was able to hit her Backlash for the win!

KAIRI has finished her voyage of the STARDOM factions, with her destination being red belt glory!

 

Syuri:

Syuri is wary of the aura KAIRI has around her but is determined to provide a huge wake up call into the standard STARDOM has raised to since KAIRI left!

 

Match Overview:

Syuri’s mat wrestling and vicious strikes posed a real threat to KAIRI’s comeback win streak, requiring all of KAIRI’s veteran instincts and knowledge to navigate in the early goings.

 

Disappointedly KAIRI & Syuri didn’t seem to click, which is a real shame given both ladies talents. Lots of submission trades were slightly off centre, allowing for quick rope breaks, or scruffy looking escapes.

 

KAIRI’s new big blows allows her to keep pace with Syuri and a brutal looking spinning backfist results in the champion being rocked, followed up with the beautiful Insane Elbow is enough for referee Daichi to slap the mat three times in a row, awarding the Pirate Princess the Red Belt!

- Starlight Kid is so ready to main event, losing it to Saya might be surprising instead of AZM but I watched back Saya vs Kid from the 2021 Cinderella and the high-speed exchange at the start shows these two could have an awesome match / Saya is now 3-0 defeating Starlight, so a record to be broken

 

- KAIRI & Syuri not clicking was such a shame given Syuri’s great title defence ratings. Fortunately those two are so talented the grade wasn’t hurt too badly / KAIRI can finish her three month wave of momentum with a title victory, hopefully continuing to draw more eyes!
