Jack Classic & Mikel de Sota vs. Leo King & Morris Wright
Chris Alpha vs. Sander Bodjukyan (Relegation playoff)
Angus McCloud vs. Kenny Maynard
Jacques Strapp vs. William Riley (Nottingham Trophy)

I haven't had the chance to mention this before, so I'll say it now - the format for the Nottingham Trophy tournament, and the quality of its matches, feels a lot similar to the real-life Japanese tournaments like New Japan's G1 Climax and All Japan's Champions' Carnival.

Nottingham Trophy 1978 Final Predictions

Leo King & Morris Wright def. Jack Classic & Mikel de Sota (Setting up Wright to join the league next season)

Relegation Playoff: Chris Alpha def. Sander Bodjukyan (Bodjukyan has been the Jash Singh of 1978)

Angus McCloud def. Kenny Maynard (Angus has massively returned to form recently)

Nottingham Trophy: William Riley def. Jacques Strapp (Never bet against Riley)

My season score ended up being 12, which is a lot better than recently, with Bodjukyan perfect and Strapp/Riley the wrong way round. The others were a bit of a mess though, mainly two spot out aside from King (1) and Maynard (3).

That's very true. I didn't intend to make it quite so similar, but it has definitely been the best league format I've found so far. Leagues are great for telling certain stories, although they do get quite limiting, too.

Not a bad score! I love the Jash Singh reference... I'd forgotten all about that guy!

Angus's form is a bit variable. It gets better the closer to Scotland he is, due to his popularity, but he was also working through an injury for a while which bumped him down a bit.

Show posting will go on a brief break for a couple of weeks. I always write shows way in advance of posting, however posting has caught up with writing now, so it'll take me a little bit to get back ahead of schedule.

Over the last couple of weeks I've managed to get a lot of shows written up, and I've made it almost to the end of 1978. So I'll start posting them again next Monday, That's two more league seasons, the Caledonian Cup and the end-of-year Champion of Champions tournament. After that, WWL as a company (and dynasty) will come to an end. Two years of game time seems to be the point where the league format reaches a natural end - it was the same with PWL. But that's still months and months away, so until then I hope you enjoy!

Predictions for the next show (start of season 7 - Leeds Trophy)

Leo King vs. Morris Wright
Angus McCloud vs. Chris Alpha
Kenny Maynard vs. Mikel de Sota
Jacques Strapp vs. William Riley

Sad to hear this is coming to an end as I really enjoy this but it's definitely fair. Still, plenty to go before we get there though

Plenty still to go, and I'm currently thinking of doing another league-based diary. The format would be slightly different - more zoomed out and long-term with each post summarising several rounds, using more of a narrative approach for storylines like in my PGHW diary.

The fun of doing an 8-man league with only one wrestler getting relegated per season was getting to focus on a few strong characters, but it meant a lot of repeated matches and few new rivalries.

Next time I'll probably do a larger league. Somewhere between 12 and 20 competitors with seasons lasting 6-12 months, involving factions. I'm currently undecided where to base it. My ideas are either lucha libre or a puro fed, with the wackier idea being a real-world fantasy with the database (I think it's called War of the Immortals or something like that) of all the great wrestlers from past and present.

I'll open this up to everyone to suggest what they'd like to see (although no promises I'll do that!)

A quick heads up that the next show won't be posted for a few weeks because I'm on holiday for a while and away from my PC. So don't worry - the diary isn't going to disappear!
