MAY 92, WEEK 4 : EPISODE 92.16

“Welcome one and all, to wrestling’s Sabbath.” It’s the first week of Round 6, and the panel of Harley Race, Paul E Dangerously and Dusty Rhodes run through tonights card. One week after an epic main event against Tully Blanchard, Sting is back again to face off against Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat in what is expected to be a huge main event. The panel runs through the standings after 5 rounds, discussing Sting’s amazing start to the 1992 season and how it feels like everyone else is chasing him. Both Rude and Vader are two matches behind Sting despite also being undefeated as they each have two draws to their names. Of course, elsewhere on the card is another perfect team in The Enforcers, who face off against The Steiner’s in a match that has additional ramifications as the winning team of that match will also claim the advantage in the War Games match at Great American Bash. Dusty talks about loving War Games, one of the most violent structures in professional wrestling history. Paulie ribs him, saying of course he thinks highly of his own ideas. After we get through the predictions, analysis and chatter, Harley sends things down to Lance Russell who is standing by with our officiating team for tonight.

Lance Russell introduces our officiating staff for tonight, it’s the A-Team! Randy Anderson, Mike Atkins and Hiroyuki Unno. Nick Patrick is manning the time keepers table which has moved from ringside to up alongside the entry ramp. JR says thank god that WCW has moved that table, as he was tired of it getting involved it the outcomes of matches.

trfdq2G.gifOur opening contest is a red hot match between The Steiner Brothers and The Enforcers. A win for The Enforcers keeps them in first place undefeated, and creates separation between them and one of their biggest threats this season. A win for The Steiners puts them tied with the favourites and gives them the head-to-head advantage. The Steiner’s come out with Barry Windham and Dustin Rhodes, while The Enforcers have Austin, Rude and Tully in their corner. The Journeymen are once again at ringside with Chris Adams helping Al Snow scout the match. The bell sounds and Rick ties up with Arn and the building gets excited. Arn tries to get the advantage, but Rick pivots and tosses Arn with a phenomenal belly-to-belly suplex. Austin throws a bottle of water from a fan at Rick and tensions rise, and the distraction allows Arn to get control of the match.

Pretty quickly, this breaks down as the senior official has to deal with two of the best tag teams in wrestling, and 5 people at ringside. All four men consistently end up in the ring and the action is fast and furious. All four men get big moves in, each nearly winning the match for their team, and causing their team-mates to bail them out of losing situations. With the referee distracted by Anderson, Tully jumps up on the apron to try and get involved but immediately both sides supporting squad begin to squabble. Referee Randy Anderson goes to toss them from ringside and The Enforcers play peacemaker with the ref. Arn steps down to the floor to calm down his team and meanwhile in the ring, Scott school boys Larry and gets the three count! The Steiners celebrate with Dustin and Windham as Anderson and Zybyszko argue with their stable mates on the floor.

The Steiner Brothers (5-1-0) def. The Enforcers (5-1-0) in 15:14.

PW83Usm.gifOur first Elite Division match of the night is up next, as Dangerous Dan takes on the winless One Man Gang. The commentary booth ridicule Gang’s losing record and comment on his inability to get into shape. These two big men hammer on each other with big blows, literally no finesse on display here. Gang pummels Dan towards the corner, so finally Dan resorts to wrestling with a single leg takedown followed by a chin lock. Gang works his way to his feet, but Dan transitions into a bear hug, wearing the wider opponent down and Schiavone comments how impressive Dan is in controlling such a big boy. Gang falls forward onto Spivey, squashing him and breaking the hold. Gang follows it up with some Senton splashes, crushing Spiveys ribs. Gang lets Spivey rise, only to run him over with a three point charge. This one is ugly, folks, but the fans still love Gang. Somehow, his lonely loser gimmick has captured their affection. Spivey kicks out of a pin attempt and then takes down Gang with a Big Boot. A little bit of telegraphing and Spivey takes Gang’s head off with another Big Boot. Dan Spivey hits a Spike DDT and ends this one. JR asks when One Man Gang will put the pieces together and figure out how to compete at this level?

Dan Spivey (2-3-1) def. One Man Gang (0-6-0) in 12:13

Magnum TA runs through the results from last night’s Main Event action, which saw The Southern Rockers def. The Fantastics and Austin Idol def. Shane Douglas.. In additional exhibitions, Tony Anthony def. Akio Sato, Johnny B Badd and Norman Smiley def. Phi Delta Slam, La Parka def. Norman the Lunatic and Jeff Jarrett and Scotty Flamingo def. Al Green and Brad Armstrong. JR’s indie spotlight showcased Johnny B Badd, who has been red hot on Main Event, is a part of the Shooters Club, and a very likely candidate to replace Dan Severn during his leave of absence these coming months. In other news, Scotty Flamingo broke his cheek bone from a stiff strike from Al Green during their match - Magnum is sure we will hear more about that when we next see the trust fund kid wonder…

Of course, we didn’t have to wait long to hear from Scotty, as we are standing by with Flamingo Corp’s “South Atlantic Stronghold” - all training at a local gym. Flamingo has a face protector on and talks about overcoming a crippling injury to taste victory on Main Event with the Tennessee Prodigy, Jeff Jarrett. Lawler is on hand and starts talking about recruitment, when Johnny B Badd crosses in front of the camera. The Stronghold flips out at him, saying they’re shooting here and with that comment, the entire Shooters Club emerges. The two groups have a standoff, shouting at each other in the gym.

Cactus Jack and Vader are on the stage now with Lance Russell, and Jack is asking once more if there is anyone out there man enough to accept his hardcore challenge for Great American Bash. Legendary wrestler Chief Wahoo McDaniel emerges from behind the curtain to a big pop with a strap in his hand. Wahoo approaches Lance and congratulates him on a long career and wishes him the best in his retirement. He proceeds to say that he is in the same spot - at 53 years old, his best days are behind him and is ready to ride off into the sunset to spend time with his family and friends. But he’s still got one last match left in the tank and wants to ride out on his terms. So at Great American Bash, Wahoo McDaniel has got one last Indian Strap Match left to fight, and this one will be an Indian Strap Death Match. Cactus Jack is super excited.

14VHlFZ.gifJust two weeks after Takada and Liger tore the house down in the first Division Two main event, Takada is back to defend his television title and undefeated run tonight. He’s accompanied as usual by Teddy Long. The Young Pistols are in attendance and they apparently want to sign with Teddy Long’s group now, but Long pretends to have not noticed them, ignoring their calls completely. Takada’s opponent is Brian Pillman, who is accompanied by Tom Zenk. Pillman rushes into the ring and immediately double leg takedowns Takada and goes on the offensive. They start this off like shoot wrestling, trying to get control on the mat, and it goes back and forth. Eventually, Takada takes control and slows the pace down with calculated strikes, targeting the chest of Brian. Brian is out of his element in a striking match and is just absorbing kick after kick, until he catches Takada and takes him down with a dragon screw takedown.

Pillman takes control with a series of escalating moves and he’s got Takada reeling! Pillman is on the apron, getting ready to go for his Air Pillman finish, but Takada crawls towards him before he rises to his feet. Pillman tries to push him backwards so he can go for his finish, but as he begins to leap, Takada hits a sick Roundhouse Kick to the temple of Pillman, sending him crashing all the way to the floor, a broken heap tangled up against the security railing. Referee Mike Atkins is counting him out, and he’s not responsive at ringside. Pillman cannot get to his feet and Takada is posing in the ring as Pillman is counted out.

Nobuhiko Takada (5-0-1) def. Brian Pillman (3-3-0) in 17:39 to retain the WCW Television Championship.

eF14rnY.gifOut comes the Fabulous Freebirds with an extravagant victory parade styled entrance as Hayes and Garvin carry a banner proclaiming “VICTORY”, while Terry Gordy throws confetti up and down the aisle! JR says that rumours of the Freebirds demise have been grossly misstated, unfortunately. The American Males are out next and they get jumped as they enter the ring. This starts off messy, as the Freebirds wrap up Bagwell in the banner and Gordy gives him a little Americana face-paint. Maggs attacks and tries to get this into an actual wrestling match, as he hits both opponents with Ricky Steamboat-esque arm drags. JR says that the kid has been getting over backstage with the veterans due to his eagerness to learn and respectful attitude, and saw him talking with Ricky Steamboat before the show. Maggs tries to get Bagwell back to his corner and Bagwell wants revenge, so he tags himself in. He runs at Hayes and immediately eats a fist that creates a cloud of chalky dust as the dry face paint Gordy covered him in plumes from his forehead in a fog of red and blue. Bagwell has it in his eyes, and Maggs tries to assist him, but eats a fist for his troubles from his blinded partner. Bagwell turns and takes a Piledriver from Hayes and this one is over!

The Fabulous Freebirds def. The American Males in 10:42.

It’s time, for Inside the Squared Circle with Jesse Ventura and Magnum TA. Magnum tees up Ventura with “Well, V, whudya see?“ which by the end of the night, WCW would need to be making t-shirts of due to instant popularity. They discuss how sad it is that here they are 16 weeks in and One Man Gang still can’t buy a win. He’s the only guy in all of WCW without a point to his name yet, after Austin Idol and the Southern Rockers both picked up wins this week on Main Event. He is a part of the top competition in wrestling, and 6 matches in, he’s failed to show up. He’s not in good enough shape, he doesn’t have the passion or the fire, and it’s just not acceptable at this level. Magnum asks Ventura if he were to replace One Man Gang from the competition with an available wrestler, who would he choose? They discuss some of the older guys currently available, like Paul Orndorff, Jimmy Snuka and Bob Backlund, and Ventura jokes that The Fabulous Moolah would probably fair better than Gang this year at 58 years old. Ventura says what he’d really like to see, is WCW make a play to sign Stan Hansen - who’s currently competing in All Japan. Magnum says good luck with that, he’s currently making $17,500 per match with them.

Magnum sends things over to Dusty. Dusty Rhodes announces next week’s matches for the Elite Division - We have The Powerhouse Ron Simmons taking on Kevin Sullivan, Terry Gordy facing off against Butch Reed, and the World Champion Lex Luger takes on the mastodon known as Vader. Promos from both Vader and Luger air to hype the huge match up. On top of that, the first couple matches for the Great American Bash Pay Per View event have been announced! Sting takes on Lex Luger for the World Championship, War Games sees The Dangerous Alliance face off against Steamboat, Windham, Rhodes and The Steiner Brothers! Jushin Liger and Nobuhiko Takada face off in a rematch of their Round 5 draw, this time with the WCW Light Heavyweight Championship on the line. And finally, confirmed tonight, the Legendary Chief Wahoo McDaniel will face off against the deranged Cactus Jack in Wahoo’s final match ever, in a variation of the match he’s made famous, an Indian Strap Deathmatch!

tl0mwQ7.gifBack from the break and we have Division Two action as Terrence Taylor makes his enterance with Bam Bam, Long and Takada, and their group looks to continue it’s amazing hot streak. His opponent, Bobby Eaton, however comes to the ring with just Tully Blanchard and a cold streak. Eaton looks nervous after having been told that he’s on the chopping block with The Dangerous Alliance, and their lack of support tonight seems to be a message that he needs to shape up or ship out. Eaton’s nerves get the best of him early, as he mistimes a few moves that allows the super confident Terry Taylor to take control of the action. Taylor transitions between headlocks and wrist locks, and Eaton is getting frustrated. JR talks about how for all the flack that Eaton gets as part of the Alliance, the kid is a phenomenal technical wrestler, and pound-for-pound would rank in anyone’s top 10 on ability alone. He needs to get his head straight here and he’ll start winning matches. Schiavone wonders if a run in the tag division next year would be a better fit for him?

Eaton catches Taylor with a slingshot backbreaker much to Tully’s approval and you can see the confidence building for him. Once again, the Young Pistols are at ringside trying to get Long’s approval, and they are told blatantly no. Eaton strings together some moves and goes top rope for the flying elbow drop, but Taylor moves at the last second. Taylor locks in the Rooster Wing, but Eaton manages to get to the ropes - however he is frazzled now and takes a wild dive at Taylor that fails. Taylor picks up Eaton and hits the Sitout Powerbowerbomb for the victory.

Terrence Taylor (4-1-1) def. Bobby Eaton (1-5) in 16:09.

zUGEJaA.gifIt’s main event time, and Ricky Steamboat comes out with both Jushin Liger and Ultimo Dragon. Sting enters next, alone, and stares intensely at Steamboat as he makes his way to the ring. These are the two most beloved fan-favourites in WCW today. They stand toe to toe and the building is buzzing, when out comes Luger to join the commentary booth. Both athletes groan as he panders on the stage and then takes his seat. And with that distraction, we are under w… Nope. Out comes Nikita Koloff to the ringside area, holding a towel again and JR says that he doesn’t understand what Koloff’s end game here is. Sting and Koloff’s history is well documented and Sting appears to be annoyed that his fellow babyface and friend continues to be at ringside for his matches. Finally we are under way and the two heroes lock up immediately and neither man can get an early advantage. Sure enough, this is war as the two men are step for step, punch for punch, and hold for hold throughout the first 10 minutes. After 10 minutes of equal footing, the action accelerates with heavier moves and near falls carrying the next five minutes, leading us to the last five minutes turning into an all out sprint! Nothing is held back, and neither men appear willing to concede defeat for a second.

Sting goes for a Scorpion Death Drop, but Steamboat hooks the ropes, allowing Sting to drop to his back alone. Ricky quickly tries to pin Sting, but it’s countered into a near fall as these to are trying everything they can to get the win before time runs out! Ricky with a dropkick, but Sting catches his legs and hooks in the Scorpion Deathlock! The Powerhouse, Ron Simmons comes down the ramp and Koloff gets in his face. Simmons spine busters him on the entry ramp! He grabs the towel and heads to the ring, where he tosses the towel at Sting’s face and yells at Randy Anderson to call the bell. Sting let’s go for a second and yells at Simmons. On commentary, Luger is yelling that security needs to get this hooligan out of here. Security comes over Simmons tosses them one by one off of the ramp! One of the guards gets tossed onto time keeper Nick Patrick! Sting locks on the Death lock again, but Steamboat won’t tap, begging Anderson to check the time! However, the pain is too much and Steamboat appears to be passing out and Randy chooses to pull Sting off of the Dragon! Sting starts to celebrate a submission victory - but Randy Anderson is calling for the officials and they huddle at the timekeeper booth where Nick Patrick is being attended to - as JR comments it doesn’t matter where the booth seems to be, it has a bullseye on it. They check the replays and sure enough, time had expired while Ricky Steamboat was refusing to tap out and about 20 seconds passed before Randy Anderson pulled Sting off. The match is a draw, Sting is pissed in the ring, and Simmons is in handcuffs yelling if Sting understands now?

Sting (5-0-1) and Ricky Steamboat (2-1-3) go to a 20 minute time limit draw.

8KleTM5.jpg

Jesse Ventura announces this weeks three stars:

3. Nobuhiko Takada

2. Sting

1. Ricky Steamboat (wins $10,000 wrestler of the night bonus).

Back at the broadcast panel, Dusty Rhodes is livid - saying that Ron Simmons has affected the outcome of a marquee Elite Division match up, and there will be hell to pay for this. Dusty says the WCW is going to have no choice but to seriously fine Simmons, and his employment will be in question. Paulie says that he thinks that what Ron did was smart as now Sting doesn’t have that perfect record to coast on, and perhaps maybe now it’ll cause him to make mistakes while he wrestles with urgency to reclaim the top spot. Dusty grabs Paul’s blocky cell phone from him and says he needs to borrow it, to call the lawyers. Harley takes control of the segment by queuing up some replays and providing a recap of the night that was as Dusty is on the phone trying to get through to WCW’s legal team. Dusty is escorted off screen and Diamond Dallas Page joins the panel. Paul E welcomes him, saying it has been a pleasure to run the panel with him on WCW’s Main Event broadcasts. DDP fills in, providing some analysis on the other matches from tonight. Next week is the second week of Round 6 and with that, Dangerously signs off with his touted quote, “It’s Saturday night, folks - Stay Dangerous!”

I know the Freebirds were set as the team you were making lose a lot. I’m thinking that continues.

Nobuhiko Takada vs Brian Pillman

Terrence Taylor vs Bobby Eaton

Bobby Eaton just lost to Van Hammer…

Steiner Brothers vs The Enforcers

The steiners make up their loss to the pistols and earn tag titles shot

One of them should not beat the other. If Sting wins Steamboat is ultimately devalued, if Steamboat wins Sting loses his streak to a baby face who can’t gloat.

You came to play, this week! Great thought behind everything - you nailed it with Steamboat vs Sting. But the Freebirds are on fire now, baby!

Wait, hang on. I'm very confused. I thought The Enforcers vs. The Steiners was for the man advantage in War Games, that's why I went with them. Are the babyfaces going to have the advantage??

THE BIG OLD BUMPAROOSKI

We're back! (And... better... than ever?) Time to bump the thread and announce some plans here :)

First up, next show will be up sometime this week, but I want to allow some predictions in before then, card below!
I already have picks from Old School Fan, smw88, Satyr24, Lord Byron, DHK1989, Dawn, and SonOfSharknado.

Next up, I've got a nasty bit of work in front of me for cleaning up the formatting of the prior posts to marry up with the current board. Good thing I like html and the new forum is extremely friendly.

Lastly, as a time waster the past two weeks, I ran a 2006 TNA save for a couple months and wanted to quickly share the most badass pairing ever: Big Van Vader managed by Minoru Suzuki. Pretty wild stuff there. "Shifting Sands" by Mammoth is a challenging database if anyone is looking for a struggle!

Looks like I need to set the text colour specifically to be legible on the light theme.

Will add to list of required updates. Thank you for calling out!

JUNE 92, WEEK 1 : EPISODE 92.17

tBEcKDL.jpg

““Welcome one and all, to wrestling’s Sabbath.” It’s week two of Round 6, and the panel of Harley Race, Paul E Dangerously and Dusty Rhodes run through tonights card. They discuss the opening bout of Kevin Sullivan versus Ron Simmons, and Paul E wonders why Dusty is letting him fight after his involvement marred last week’s main event. Dusty says that Ron Simmons will compete in his scheduled Round 6 match as promised to the WCW audience, but during our first intermission, Dusty will publicly address Simmons actions, and the corresponding repercussions. Dusty’s goal first and foremost is to ensure that the integrity of WCW matches are withheld throughout the competition, avoiding as many alterations to the schedule as possible, while retaining the finality of referee decisions at match time. They talk about Sting losing out on his perfect record, leaving only the Young Pistols as perfect at this time. Harley jokes about how even though the Pistols are the only perfect team, they still do not meet the standards of Teddy Long, who will be present tonight with his team to officially announce their stable’s name. They then discuss tonight’s huge main event, as World Champion Lex Luger competes against Big Van Vader in an epic battle of undefeated stars. After we get through the predictions, analysis and chatter, Harley sends things down to Lance Russell who is standing by with our officiating team for tonight.

Lance Russell continues his final stretch of shows before retirement, and introduces our officiating staff for tonight! Nick Patrick, Mike Atkins and Hiroyuki Unno. Randy Anderson is manning the time keepers table, which JR comments should probably be shoved in a shark cage at this point.

trfdq2G.gif Out comes Kevin Sullivan for our opening contest, accompanied by the dark and mysterious Woman. There’s a bit of stalling between entrances as the crowd gets hot for the Powerhouse, chanting Simmons name. He comes out to a large ovation and marches to the ring, smack talking his entire way to the ring as he continues to look pissed off. He enters the ring and Sullivan jumps him immediately, with Kevin continuing toattack as Simmons gets to his feet and Simmons pushes him backwards across the ring, but Sullivan jumps back up and rakes Simmons eyes. He chokes him on the ropes and abuses the referees five count a few times, not letting up at all. Sullivan applies a chin lock with a knee digging into Ron’s back and Simmons powers his way to his feet, lifting Sullivan onto his back in the backpack position. Simmons charges him into the turnbuckles, breaking the hold, and follows up vicious shoulder thrusts to Sullivans midsection. Huge biel toss across the ring and Sullivan retreats to the floor as Simmons poses for the crowd. Simmons follows Sullivan to the floor, but Woman stands in his way. The distraction allows a cheap shot from Sullivan, who then charges Simmons into the ring post. Sullivan pounds away at Simmons on the outside, rolls him back into the ring, and grabs a folding chair to bring into the ring with him. Referee Nick Patrick asks Sullivan not to use it, but Sullivan just props it upright, and sits Simmons down on it. He then goes for a diving crossbody, but Simmons rises to his feet and catches Sullivan. Big powerslam. Press Slam. Sullivan is out on his feet and Simmons points to the chair. Spinebuster onto the upright folding chair, completely flattening it. Simmons with a definitive one armed pinfall for the win. On the outside, Woman doesn’t look to pleased.

Ron Simmons (4-1-1) def. Kevin Sullivan (2-4-0) in 12:59.

PW83Usm.gif Moving along, we have Kevin Von Erich out next with Mike Rapada in his corner. Schiavone comments on Rapada’s success on WCW Main Event, it begs to be seen whether he moves up to Division Two in future seasons. Von Erich’s opponent tonight is Steve Austin, and as Austin makes his entrance Jim Ross talks about how Austin and Kevin Von Erich were traveling partners during Austin’s time in WCCW and USWA and Austin has credited Von Erich as an inspiration for how he performs in between the ropes. You can see it immediately as these two kick it off, as Austin isn’t as aggressive as he’s been in the last few rounds as he shows Von Erich respect immediately (much to Paul E’s chagrin) and the first 6-7 minutes of this is extremely traditional mat based wrestling. They trade getting the best of each other a couple times, each time the other smiles and nods in respect. Kevin starts building up momentum and drops Austin with a dropkick before going up top, presumably for a flying splash. Austin is quick to his feet though and shoves him off, sending him to the floor outside. Paul E is shouting for Austin to get on the attack, and Austin is hesitant, but ultimately starts stomping on Kevin as he’s rolling into the ring and the crowd responds with a chorus of boos. Austin with rolls into the Hollywood and Vine lock, but Von Erich but continues the momentum and rolls into an advantageous position where he locks in a sharpshooter variation! Austin is howling in pain, but makes the ropes which are close by. He shuffles over to the corner, holding his knee and Von Erich goes over to him out of concern. Austin pokes him in the eye! Austin with the Stun Gun for an insanely close 2.9. Von Erich gets up and gives Austin a look of disgust and Austin smirks, only to eat a straight foot to the sternum. Von Erich goes for the claw, but Austin snaps one of Von Erichs fingers and JR loses his shit with disgust. Austin capitalizes by locking in the Hollywood and Vine, and Von Erich taps out.

Steve Austin (5-1-0) def. Kevin Von Erich (2-4-0) in 17:52.

Before we can cut to the back, Ricky Steamboat runs down to the ring with The Steiner Brothers, Windham and Rhodes. The 5 attack Rick Rude and the rest of the Alliance at ringside! JR comments that it’s strange that Eaton hasn’t come to make the save for them. The 10 men brawl and mostly everyone from the Alliance powders, allowing The Steiner Brothers to hit Larry Z with the Steinerizer in the ring. The 5 challenger to the Alliance stand tall in the ring and Paul E Dangerously is livid on the ramp.

Magnum TA runs through the results from last night’s Main Event action, which saw
Jerry Lawler def. Van Hammer and Samoan Savage def. Al Perez. In additional exhibitions, Sledgehammer Anderson and Mike Rapada def. Greg Valentine and Tony Anthony, Jeff Jarrett def. Great Sasuke, Mr. Hughes def. Bill Eadie, and Johnny B Badd and Norman Smiley def. The Mongolian Stomper and Tommy Lane. JR’s indie spotlight showcased Tony Norris, a young black athlete wrestling out of Pearl River - The guy is built like a machine and it’s only a matter of time before the wrestling world knows his name.

Dusty Rhodes comes out to the ring to a huge pop and he’s here to announce what will happen with Ron Simmons. He immediately invites Ron to the ring, saying that he respects Ron as an athlete and owes it to him that his decision be revealed face to face. Simmons comes out and asks Dusty if he can speak, so Dusty hands him the microphone. Nikita Koloff is shown watching from the crowd. Ron says he understands that his actions last week were not justifiable, and he’s not about to say what he did was right. He apologies to Sting, saying he hopes that Sting understands the frustration that he is currently feeling. Just like Ron lost out on a chance to hold WCW gold because of a clock, Sting lost out on a perfect season run. Dusty says that despite what Ron thinks, Dusty actually understands him and while he is frustrated with the effect that Ron’s actions have on the current season, he can’t say he wouldn’t do the same thing if he were in Ron’s boots. That said, WCW has entered a new era of integrity, and that integrity must be upheld. So, without further ado, Dusty is displeased to announced that Ron Simmons is entering a one month suspension without pay, forfeiting his right to a Round 7 match against Bam Bam Bigelow, as well as his Pay Per View bonus that he would receive for any appearance booked at Great American Bash. Sting’s music hits and out comes the Stinger! He enters the ring and stares down Simmons, dead in the eyes, and says he understands. He’s conflicted as he wants Ron to get what he rightfully deserves, and that’s another title shot at Lex Luger, but he also wants a chance to fight Ron again for screwing him for no good reason. He says that Steamboat and him talked, and both would like to appeal against Dusty’s decision tonight, saying that they can agree a draw was likely at that point. And instead, Sting would like Dusty to grant Sting his wish: give him both of the things that he wants - a match with Simmons and a title shot for Simmons. How about it, Dusty? A match featuring, Sting, Ron AND Lex Luger? Dusty is pretty dumbfounded by this idea, says that his decision is put on hold and he’ll have an answer by the end of the night. Nikita at ringside doesn’t look too please with the decision.

After that wild segment, JR is beside himself at the booth. Him and Schiavone try to comprehend the chaos that would be three men wrestling simultaneously. As they discuss the idea, Al Snow and Chris Adams make their way to the ring, fresh off their first victory over The Outsiders, who will be in action later tonight. Their opponents are the Rock N Roll Express, accompanied by the South Atlantic Stronghold. Scotty Flamingo is wearing a ridiculous face mask after fracturing his cheek bone - it looks like some sort of plague doctor mask / bird mask… At ringside, the Shooters Club is shown eagerly watching this contest. Al Snow is super confident after their first win and immediately is tagged out by Chris Adams who doesn’t thing he’s ready. They argue for a second and Gibson attacks Adams and this one is on. The Rock and Roll Express are so exciting to watch and take control of Adams, who tries to slow things down with some technical wrestling, but the Express are having none of it, as they keep things in motion. Schiavone comments that this may actually be the one time that Adams wants Snow to take charge, as he might be able to match them. Adams manages to build support and rally for a tag attempt, but Jarrett distracted Al Snow, causing him to miss the tag.

Things break down after this as both members of the Express jump into the ring to beat on Adams. Snow jumps in to make the save, hitting a top rope moonsault that takes out all three other competitors! Looks like Adams took the worst of it though, as he emerges from it with a welt on his forehead. Snow is red hot, taking the fight to both men with a series of moves. Snow starts dropkicking both members of the Express repeatedly, but they keep getting up… Snow runs out of breath for a second and that’s all it takes for him to be on the receiving end of a double dropkick! He falls to the floor and Adams rolls up Gibson for a near fall. Adams sets up Gibsons for a Superplex, but Morton clocks him from behind and Gibson hits a sunset flip for the pinfall victory.

The Rock N Roll Express (5-1-0) def. The Journeymen (1-5-0) in 12:42.

It’s time for a battle of bottom feeders, as Terry Gordy makes his way out with the no-longer-winless Freebirds. He’s got a lighter mood to him than the past as he’s no longer searching for that first win. His opponent tonight is Butch Reed who has dropped four straight matches after having won in Round One. He’s got big ol Mr. Hughes in his corner. These two guys both look eager to go and once the bell rings they immediately start wailing on each other. Butch Reed takes control with a double leg takedown, and tries to get an arm bar locked in, but Gordy kicks Reed in the face until he lets go. Gordy with a massive running crossbody scores a near fall and he follows it up with a camel clutch. Reed tries to get out by biting his opponents hands, and Gordy responds with some nasty clubbing blows that nearly knock out Reed - but he gets his foot to the rope and the hold is broken up. Reed seems loopy and Gordy looks to capitalize with an oriental spike. Reed is going out but again he makes it to the ropes. Gordy wants to lock in an STF now, and Reed somehow wills himself to drag his body to the ramp. Gordy follows him onto the ramp and picks him up and DDTs him on the ramp! Reed is busted open and the referee is yelling for them to bring it back inside, but JR doesn’t think Reed can make it back. Gordy picks up Reed and looks to drag him back towards the ring, but out of nowhere, Reed grabs Gordy and bulldogs him right off the ramp! The crowd is going nuts and both men are down as Mike Atkins has no choice but to count them both out. What a slobber-knocker!

Terry Gordy (1-4-1) and Butch Reed (1-4-1) went to a draw by double count out at 10:48.

It’s time, for Inside the Squared Circle with Jesse Ventura and Magnum TA. Magnum immediately tees up Ventura with “Well, V, whudya see?“ and Jesse smirks at Magnum’s new best selling shirt a week after he first muttered that line. Ventura says there is one thing he wants to talk about, and one thing he knows that Magnum wants to talk about. Magnum asks what that is and Ventura says President Dusty Rhodes’ lack of decisiveness surrounding Ron Simmons. Magnum smirks as he sarcastically says he wonders why Jesse would think Magnum would want to talk about that? Jesse says that WCW has done a lot of good under new leadership in creating a platform that showcases the talent with amazing competitive matches each week while maintaining clear cut structure and ensuring that booking decisions are not overly politically motivated. But Dusty is getting too close to letting the inmates run the asylum with his inability to control Ron Simmons. He’s got a hard choice to make, as with Ron’s win tonight, Ron has continued to prove he’s a top contender, but his actions need to be better. Ventura agrees with Magnum for a change, before saying he thinks that WCW should proceed with the suspension anyways to send a message to all the clowns who think they are bigger than the league. Ventura then wants to talk about what we saw with Butch Reed and Terry Gordy. Ventura says that while one half of the former Doom tag team is making bad decisions despite winning matches, the other half is busting his ass for every point he can get. We’re not about to pretend that Butch Reed is on the upswing at 37 years old and only 4 points to his name after 6 rounds, but that 4th point tonight was probably the most well earned point out of any wrestler so far - to go to the lengths that Butch went tonight for a draw shows just how much this competition means, and Butch Reed deserves recognition for his performance.

Magnum sends things over to Lance Russell, who’s trying to get a word in with One Man Gang. Gang is busy talking to Dan Spivey, asking him if he’d be in his corner going forward. Gang has been a laughing stock around here and needs a partner to help him turn things around. Spivey thinks they had a great match last week, and that Gang can turn things around. However, Spivey apologizes, but he isn’t willing to help at this time as he needs to focus on his own progress - he’s in the middle of the pack and wants to climb the ranks. Gang seems dejected, when Wahoo McDaniel enters the scene. He tells Gang that he was in the arena last week, watching the matches from ringside and enjoying the atmosphere as he prepares for his final fight. One thing he noticed was that despite losing, Gang has captured the fans hearts - he needs to keep his chin up and keep going as he might not be winning right now, but the connect he’s made with the fans will make sure he has food on the table for a long time. He says he knows Gang’s next match is against Vader and he’ll be in the fight of his life there, but he can never give up! In the background, we see that Bobby Eaton is here this week, as he’s talking with Dave Finlay.

Not getting a chance to talk with anyone, Lance Russell sends the audience to an advert, paid for by Teddy Long. Teddy throws a wad of cash at the camera and says hell yeah he’s buying tv time now. It’s been months and no one has been able to defeat his group. Next week, Bam Bam Bigelow is going to face Rick Rude for the United States Championship, while at Great American Bash, Nobuhiko Takada will take a second belt around his waist when he defeats Jushin Liger. He says that whether you want to remember it or not, he’s responsible for bringing Ron Simmons to the dance and turning him into a player. So perhaps everyone should clue in, as Player Enterprises is only for the best wrestlers around. The Young Pistols appear and ask whether Teddy Long would like to add more gold to his resume, as they are willing to enlist in his group. Teddy shakes his head and Player Enterprises leaves.

Back from intermission and it’s time for our second tag team match of the night as The Heavenly Bodies make their entrance, looking to stop a two match losing streak. After they enter, The Outsiders make their way to the ring with Diamond Dallas Page as JR comments that they had started off strong, but haven’t picked up a win for three straight rounds. These two teams both working on distracting referee Mike Atkins right from the get go, so that they can each take chances to bend the rules. There’s no arguing that this is the weakest card on the show as neither team has really emerged as stars this season yet. The Diamond Studd is busy carrying most of the work for his team, as Vegas seems to be more interested in showboating to the crowd. There is a clear size advantage here for the Outsiders and the Heavenly Bodies struggle to get any traction. Vegas is in the ring and seems to be goofing around with Prichard, who proceeds to slap the taste out of his mouth. The tone changes immediately, as Vegas loses interest in showmanship, booting Prichard to oblivion and then catching Lane with a sidewalk slam when he runs in. The Diamond Studd jumps in and again the match has lost control. The larger boys dismantle The Heavenly Bodies and get in referee Hiroyuki Unno’s face when he tries to calm them down. Vegas lifts up Unno by the scruff of his shirt to get him face to face. Both men hit power bomb type moves on the opponents and Studd pins Prichard for a decisive win that’s sure to change their momentum.

The Outsiders (3-2-1) def. The Heavenly Bodies (2-4-0) in 13:35.

Before either competitor makes their entrance, Sting’s music hits once again and he joins the commentary booth. Out comes Big Van Vader with Cactus Jack and it’s time for the massive main event. JR denotes that not only is Vader a scary behemoth who can seriously mess you up, he’s also proved he can fight forever as two of his matches have gone the distance, including a 20 minute slugfest with Dr. Death. Now out comes the World Champion Lex Luger, accompanied by Harley Race and you can see the nerves on both men’s faces as they know just how much of a challenge Luger is in for tonight. The bell rings and Luger immediately powders to the outside, as Sting says that Luger is one of the craftiest wrestlers in the game, and it’s impossible to understand what his plan always is. Vader yells at Luger to come back in, but Luger refuses for half of the count, sliding in briefly to break the count and then back to the floor so Vader follows Luger to the outside, but Luger retreats back into the ring and stomps on Vader as he enters. Luger with a full nelson and digs one knee into Vader’s rib cage, but Vader fights out and Luger powders outside of the ring again. Vader tells Nick Patrick to count out Luger, and Luger talks with Harley. Finally, Luger slowly walks up the stairs and breaks the count, and Vader rushes him, only for Luger to drop to the floor again and start stretching. Sting warns that Vader has to avoid getting sucked in here and Vader’s patience has worn thin and he chases Luger to the outside.

Finally, 7 minutes into this one, Vader gets his hands on Luger and the crowd lights up as Vader starts wailing on him with clubbing forearms and backs him into the corner where he starts claps Luger’s skull a few times and then pulverizes him with a running splash. He goes for the Vader Bomb, but Luger rolls out of the way and onto the ringside floor again and Vader follows him immediately now, chasing him around the ring. Harley tries to get in Vader’s face, distracting him long enough to allow Luger to poke him in the eye. The two continue the cat and mouse game and it seems like Luger is just trying to survive the clock here. We are down to three minutes and this time Luger jumps out of the ring after fighting out of a choke slam attempt and Vader chases him right out. Luger runs around the ring and Vader chases him in circles, finally catching him in a corner and pummelling him and Harley gets involved Vader threatens Harley and Luger blindsides him. Luger with a massive running forearm smash, sending Vader over the guardrail! Luger retreats back to the ring and just avoids being counted out, collecting a count out victory. Vader is beside himself at ringside as Luger and Harley retreat up the ramp in celebration. Sting calls Luger a coward as we leave the ringside area and JR sends us to Jesse Ventura.

Lex Luger (5-0-1) def. Big Van Vader (3-1-2) by countout, in 18:16.

Jesse Ventura announces this weeks three stars:

3. Kevin Sullivan

2. Lex Luger

1. Big Van Vader (wins $10,000 wrestler of the night bonus).

Ventura notes that he’s very pissed off with the decisions for the stars tonight, as two losers shouldn’t be getting rewarded over winners.

Back at the broadcast panel, they run through highlights of tonights broadcast, with several shots of the Butch Reed bulldog to Terry Gordy off the ramp being shown. Harley says that was insane, he’s never seen someone show so much heart for a single point. With tonight’s results, Lex Luger’s win has moved him into a first place tie with Sting, while Ron Simmons is now in third place. It’s time for Dusty’s decision and he announces that after conferring with the rest of the upper management team, they have determined that Ron Simmons’ suspension is not being carried out, they will only proceed with a $35,000 fine to Ron. And, in light of Sting’s comments, WCW has decided that at Great American Bash, Lex Luger will defend against not one, but two men. Simmons and Sting will both challenge for the WCW Heavyweight Championship, in a first of it’s kind three-way match. Harley is blown away by the announcement, and says that this show has been too much, he worries about his heart. Next week is the final week of Round 6 and with that, Dangerously signs off with his touted quote, “It’s Saturday night, folks - Stay Dangerous!”

AROUND THE WORLD
 - Despite much higher bids from the WWF, Dusty Rhodes renewed his contract for 3 years. The decision firmly puts Dusty in his on-screen WCW President role for the foreseeable future.

- The Diamond Studd Scott Hall renewed his contract with WCW for 3 years, and was able to successfully pass his mandatory drug screening upon contract renewal. It appears as though the 33 year old is currently clean. Also renewed was El Gigante, who’s contract has shifted from a monthly rate to a per show basis, and has only been renewed for a year.

- In blockbuster news, Andre the Giant has announced a return to the WWF. The 46 year old star of the 80s is current off filming a movie and WWF thought they would cash in on his return to prominence with a blockbuster $3.7 million dollar contract over 18 months. PWI reports that as the WCW continues to corner the North American market for an authentic sports experience, the WWF further distances itself from competition as the premier form of sports entertainment. Andre’s in-ring performances with All Japan have been largely considered duds.

- El Dandy captured the World Junior Light Heavyweight championship from Villano IV, marking his first time as champion, making him a champion in two promotions. It’s not a surprise, either, as his performances have been some of the best matches in Mexico this year.

- Kiss defeated Lizmark to become the WWA World Light Heavyweight champion for the first time. - UWF Beach Brawl saw two championships change hands, as Iceman Kin Parsons won the UWF Israeli championship, and Paul Orndorff dethroned Steve Williams for the UWF SportsChannel Television Championship.

- Dos Caras def. Octagon to win the Mexican National Middleweight Championship.

- AAA added Neftali to their roster.

- FMW have sold their dojo in an effort to keep themselves a float. The hardcore company founded by Atsushi Onita has been under consistent scrutiny this year due to it’s hardcore approach. Unfortunately, it’s been in a financial downfall for the first half of 1992, and selling off the dojo is seen as an attempt to pay off current debts.

- And in a bit of bad karma news, just after the shocking news that Klondyke Kate had stolen Ricky Knight from Sweet Saraya, Kate suffered a torn ACL that will see her out of action for over a year. - Vince McMahon’s World Bodybuilding Federation has folded due to the terrible performance of the 1992 WBF Championship. The financial hit to the WWF is said to be roughly 2 million dollars, continuing the trend of unfortunate circumstances for the company.
