JUNE 92, WEEK 2 : EPISODE 92.18

tBEcKDL.jpg

““Welcome one and all, to wrestling’s Sabbath.” It’s final week of Round 6, and the panel of Harley Race, Paul E Dangerously and Dusty Rhodes run through tonights card. After a massive week last week that saw Lex Luger defeat Vader and move into a first place tie with Sting atop the Premier Division, while Jerry Lawler held his tie with Nobuhiko Takada in Division Two. Tonight, our blockbuster main event features Bam Bam Bigelow taking on Rick Rude for the WCW US Championship, while elsewhere on the card The Young Pistols face literally their biggest challenge yet as they defend their US Tag Team Championships against Big and Bigger. Josh and Gigante have been on a downward trajectory as of late, but the Young Pistols haven’t exactly been dominant in their undefeated streak. Plus, we are one week away from a massive week of WCW action. Next week is the highly awaited Great American Bash, and ahead of that WCW will be hosting a Tuesday Night Clash of the Champions, a special weekday episode that will serve as the first set of matches for Round 19 of WCW’s 1992 season. After we get through the predictions, analysis and chatter, Harley sends things down to Lance Russell who is standing by with our officiating team for tonight.

Lance Russell continues his final stretch of shows before retirement, and introduces our officiating staff for tonight! It’s the A-Team, Mike Atkins, Bill Alfonso and senior official Randy Anderson. Nick Patrick is manning the time keepers table.

trfdq2G.gif Our opening contest tonight is Dr. Death Steve Williams, who’s on a three match streak of draws and hasn’t lost since round one, against Barry Windham (accompanied by Dustin Rhodes) who’s gearing up for a major War Games match at Great American Bash next week. At ringside, the Shooters Club is watching and appears to have a connection with Steve Williams. These two bulls square off and Dr. Death takes down Barry quickly and they tangle on the mat. Barry gets a leg bar in and takes the advantage, and Williams has to reach the ropes to break the hold. Barry tries to keep on the offensive, but gets tossed over the ropes. Williams regroups and then Barry comes back in and the two start clubbing each other. Turns into a strike fest, with neither man backing down and both men’s chests turning beet red. Their strikes start to slow and they turn to trading shoulder blocks with neither man losing their feet, but Barry starts to get more energy and it looks like Steve can’t charge up. Barry hits three shoulder blocks in a row and is gaining speed, but the fourth run Dr. Death uses Barry’s momentum and turns it into a spinning side slam for a near fall.

Barry tries to rebuild momentum by slowing things down with an abdominal stretch and Williams powers out of it, but appears to have tweaked his arm in doing so. Barry hones in on the arm and starts to get the advantage. Shooters Club is shown cheering on Steve. Out comes Steve Austin, who walks down to ring. Barry is distracted and it allows Williams time to recover. Barry goes to go back on the attack, but Williams hits the Doctor’s Bomb out of nowhere. Williams gets the three count and Austin laughs at ringside.

Steve Williams (2-1-3) def. Barry Windham (2-4-0) in 15:20.

PW83Usm.gif In the second contest of the evening, Jushin Liger looks to maintain his undefeated run of 1992, as he makes his entrance with Ultimo Dragon. Meanwhile, Dustin Rhodes is already in the ring after being ringside for Barry’s match previously. JR questions whether Jushin Liger can finish the match as he’s proven he is a top tier wrestler, but has failed to pick up wins within the 20 minute time limit consistently. Dustin has a significant size advantage here, nearly a full foot, and quickly gets Liger into a headlock, but Liger slips out and then races off the ropes and takes down Dustin with a head scissors takedown. Liger tries to get a boston crab on Dustin, but he’s too big and Dustin forces out of it and the hits a wicked snap power slam that rattled Liger. Dustin with some nasty knee drops as JR questions the ethics of these moves given the size difference. Dustin goes up top for a flying forearm, but eats a dropkick as he’s coming down. Liger kicks away at Dustin and hits a Shotei palmthrust that staggers his opponent before he catches him with a springboard arm drag and then locks in an impressive surfboard submission on his larger opponent. Dustin manages to elbow his way out of the hold though. Liger flies up to the top rope and hits a diving hurricanrana on Dustin that sends him to the floor, where Liger follows up with a suicidal dive through the ropes to a huge roar from the crowd. Liger jumps up on the barricade and frog splashes onto Dustin on the outside floor. Schiavone is screaming that this kid is unstoppable.

They go back into the ring and Dustin destroys Liger with a massive lariat. Dustin is building up momentum now, hitting Liger with the Bionic elbows adopted from his father. Rhodes goes for a spiral suplex but Liger reverses it into a victory roll and Rhodes can’t kick out in time! JR screams that Liger has done it!

Jushin Liger (3-0-3) def. Dustin Rhodes (3-3-0) in 16:10.

Magnum TA runs through the results from last night’s Main Event action, which saw Shooters Club def. The Killer Bees and Chaos By Nature def. Samoan Swat Team . In additional exhibitions, Norman Smiley and Johnny B Badd def. Randy Rose and Dennis Condrey, Greg Valentine def. Brad Armstrong, Scotty Flamingo def. David Tyler Morton Jericho, and in trios action, Diamond Studd, DDP, and Vinnie Vegas def. Duke Drowse, Siva Afi, and Tommy Gilbert. JR’s indie spotlight showcased Konnan again. The young latin star is poised to take over the wrestling world in the coming years.

A press conference is held with the three wrestlers competing at Great American Bash. Sting, Luger and Simmons all provide their thoughts about the dynamic match, with reporters asking whether this unconventional match type is a logical way to determine a champion. Sting butts in, saying that the championship’s reign has been marred by ‘conventional’ matches resulting in indecisive finishes that prevent a true champion from being crowned. In his own past, he’s competed in 60 minute draws that have prevented him from claiming championships from legends, and that convention is one that has prevented Ron Simmons from claiming a world championship on technicality. Luger disagrees, saying that two challengers competing against him is an unfair disadvantage that means he could lose his championship without ever being pinned. This is not the way to win championships, but rather this will only serve as an asterisk to anyone who thinks this is the proper way to determine a champion. Simmons remains silent. A reporter asks him for his thoughts, and he says that right or wrong, he wants the gold.

In the second Premier Division match of the night, Nikita Koloff takes on Tully Blanchard. Both men are looking to pul themselves out of the bottom half of their division, and Schiavone comments that both men have been preoccupied with other things lately and need to focus on their own success if they want to remain in the top flight. They start off slow here, feeling each other out and neither man is willing to make a first move and risk a mistake. They tie up and Nikita overpowers Tully, using his hips to take down Tully and lock in a stretch. Tully manages to get his foot on the rope and then trash talks Tully before poking him in the eye to get the advantage, before tripping him and attacking the ribs with a series of knees. Tully wraps up Nikita in the ropes and cranks the shoulder, abusing Bill Alfonso’s five count, before dropping to the floor and wrapping Nikita’s arm against the ring post. Tully brings him to the outside and then throws him shoulder first into the barricade, before jamming his arm into the railings and slamming it viciously from side to side. Alfonso yells at them to get back into the ring, but neither is listening, so he starts aggressively counting. The action goes back inside and Tully is all over Nikita, as Nikita’s arm looks hurt. Tully hits a few arm wringers in the ring and locks in an arm bar, but Nikita painfully powers out. Nikita tries to mount some offence, but is struggling as his arm is clearly holding him back here. Tully with another arm bar and Nikita refuses to give up.

Nikita fires up and goes for some one handed chops and slams on Tully. Nikita is building up momentum as time is ticking down and he tosses around Tully some more with just one arm. The crowd is roaring for him, and he lines up for the Russian Sickle with his bad arm and connects, but it doesn’t have the normal snap to it and Tully is only staggered, doesn’t go down, and instead Koloff goes down in agony. Tully with the Slingshot Suplex and pins him, but Koloff kicks out at two with his bad arm, screaming in pain as he does it. Tully is beside himself as time runs out and Nikita rolls to the floor in pain.

Nikita Koloff (1-4-1) drew Tully Blanchard (2-3-1) after the 20:00 minute time limit expired.

It’s time for the first of two title matches tonight, as Big and Bigger are out with La Parka for the challenge. Commentary questions whether the large men can turn their momentum around and walk away with gold from their much smaller opponents. Out come the champions, The Young Pistols! Surprisingly, Smothers and Steve Armstrong are getting a bit of love from the live crowd, as there is no questioning their rise and entertaining matches so far in 1992. JR calls them the shock stars of 92, stating that they may have had an easier start of their season than others, but being the only individuals with flawless records is nothing to shake your head at. Sure enough, the larger team take immediate control, beating Smothers and Armstrong from pillar to post with very little defence. The champs take five minutes of beating straight without an answer before spilling to the outside. They joke around with La Parka and Big Josh gets mad and goes to the floor to attack, but he trips and The Pistols finally have an opening! They go on the offence and attack Josh, but Josh fights out of it and tosses both of the Pistols around until his leg gets clipped by Armstrong, and then the Pistols double stun gun Josh onto the guardrail. Back in the ring, The Pistols have isolated Big Josh now and are practicing quick tags and quick pin attempts and the crowd is popping for mostly everything they do. They start double teaming Josh in the corner and Gigante jumps in to break it up but is sent back to his corner by Alfonso with a warning. Smothers goes over to the opposite corner and antagonizes Gigante. Josh works to make the tag but Armstrong has the ref distracted who misses it and ejects Gigante back to his corner. Gigante shoves Alfonso and chokeslams both members of the Young Pistols repeatedly! Bill Alfonso calls for the bell, disqualifying Big and Bigger. Big Josh restrains Gigante and they head to the back unhappy.

The Young Pistols (6-0-0) def. Big and Bigger (2-4-0) in 13:17 by DQ.

It’s time, for Inside the Squared Circle with Jesse Ventura and Magnum TA. Magnum immediately tees up Ventura with “Well, V, whudya see?“ and Jesse turns to their special guests this week, Butch Reed and Terry Gordy. They have been brought here to talk about their amazing match last week. Jesse praises Butch for the massive bulldog last week that earned him a single point, saying that despite both men being at the bottom of their division, they fought tooth and nail to get any points they could. Magnum says both men earned the audience’s respect with their effort last week and Ventura says that every competitor should take note from their match last week. Reed and Gordy thank the hosts for the praise and say that as a thank you for their effort, WCW’s booking committee has opted to give them a special showcase match at Great American Bash - this time though, they will be partners against anyone willing to face two dudes who will do ANYTHING to win. Gordy talks about them not liking each other, but competition is more important than friendship - and they both can agree to have each other’s backs when it comes to working for paydays. Butch Reed says that he’s 37 and knows he’s reaching his peak and soon he’ll be in a position where it’s downhill. So any chance he can take to make bank, he’s going to take.

6N44cno.jpg A promotional video for he South Atlantic Stronghold training camp airs. The Rock N Roll Express are shown teaching young talent Jeff Jarrett and Scotty Flamingo while Jerry Lawler talks to the camera. Lawler says that they are searching for the best young talent in the South East to take under their wings and bring to the promised land. Lawler talks himself up and talks about the developmental relationship that he has with the USWA promotion. Scotty Flamingo comes over and grabs Lawler on the shoulder. He turns to the camera and exclaims that South Atlantic Stronghold is currently recruiting, and we are only taking in the best. This advert has been paid for by Flamingo Corp Enterprises.

Back at ringside, Cactus Jack makes his way to the ring for his match, and he’s joined by Big Van Vader and Greg Valentine. Valentine is wearing his famous “I Broke Wahoo’s Leg” shirt and JR comments that it’s 15 years to the day since the infamous match between Greg Valentine and Wahoo McDaniel in which Valentine broke Wahoo’s leg. Cactus Jack and Greg Valentine talk about the occasion, with Jack talking about how he’s planning on doing the same thing in one week’s time at the Great American Bash. Valentine and Vader say that would be the perfect way to cap off Wahoo’s career, paying tribute to his most famous moment in his career, getting his leg broken by a bigger star! Out comes Wahoo, who’s joined by Brian Pillman and Tom Zenk! They race to the ring and brawl with the guys in the ring. Cactus and Vader powder to the floor, leaving Greg Valentine to take a Tomahawk from Wahoo. Zenk stays in the ring as he’s Cactus’ opponent tonight.

tl0mwQ7.gif

Tom Zenk has been red hot as of late, and takes the fight straight to Cactus Jack, kicking him square in the teeth right away. Zenk rolls up Jack and nearly beats him right off the bat and Jack retreats. Cactus flips out at ringside over the near fall and Brian Pillman gets in his face. Greg Valentine gets in Pillman’s face and then ends up eating a second Tomahawk from Wahoo! A brawl occurs at ringside and and all the ringside personnel end up getting ejected. Once the dust is settled, Cactus and Zenk square off again and Schiavone comments we have lost about 5 minutes of this match due to the noise. This time the trade swings until Jack lands a knee to the midsection of Zenk and then takes him to the ground where he stomps away and then starts choking Zenk and slamming his head on the mat. Cactus fights so dirty that referee Mike Atkins has to threaten to disqualify him for something different about once a minute. Zenk tries to fight back with a strike sequence that rocks Cactus and then he goes for a super kick, but Cactus moves and Zenk gets tangled up in the ropes where Cactus hits the Cactus Clothesline, sending both men to the floor. They brawl around the ringside area and Zenk hits a back drop onto the edge of the stage and JR comments about the punishment Jack just took and how the human body isn’t supposed to land like that. Atkins checks on Jack when he gets back into the ring, apparently concerned about Jack’s back, but Cactus suckers Zenk into a chop to the throat. Cactus with a series of bulldogs and neck breakers, targetting Zenks head. He goes for the stump piledriver, but Zenk reverses and tosses Cactus over the ropes, yet another nasty spill. Jack grabs a folding chair and brings it back into the ring, but Atkins refuses to let him use it. Zenk super kicks Jack and goes up high for the missile dropkick. Unfortunately, Jack is playing tug of war with Atkins for the chair and when Jack lets go, Atkins accidentally collides with the ropes, ruining Zenks balance. Cactus meets him on the turnbuckle and hits a massive avalanche Double Arm DDT, picking up the win.

Cactus Jack (3-3-0) def. Tom Zenk (3-3-0) in 17:24.

It’s time for our main event, as the challenger to the WCW US Championship is heading to the ring. Bam Bam Bigelow is accompanied by Teddy Long, Nobuhiko Takada and Terrence Taylor, all member of Player Enterprises are red hot after aligning with Teddy Long. The champion is out next with his Dangerous Alliance, and Rick Rude still undefeated in 1992. The two competitors square up and when they lock up, Bigelow’s strength advantage is displayed as he throws Rude to the mat. Rude gives Bam Bam a nasty look and gets back to his feet, where he cautiously approaches Bigelow, trying to keep distance and make quick strikes. Bigelow isn’t all too concerned though and laughs at Rude’s approach. Bigelow corners Rude and looks to grab him, but Rude ducks under and starts attacking quickly, stomping Bigelow in a frenzy until he collapses to the mat. Rude doesn’t let up though, as he starts kicking Bigelow until he falls under the ropes to the floor outside. Rude follows him outside and they start to brawl around the ring, Rude gets the advantage as he slams Bigelow into the corner post and busts him open.

Rude brings Bam Bam back in the ring and is relentless in his attack, hitting him with everything he can, but Bigelow isn’t going down without a fight. Bigelow hits a massive cannonball in the corner and nearly defeats Rude. This is all out brutality and both men are pulling out all the stops. Takada gets floored by Steve Austin and out of the back run the Steiner’s, Windham, Dustin and Steamboat. There’s a brawl on the ramp and inside the ring, Bam Bam is distracted by ringside crew attending to Takada. Rick Rude clips Bigelow from behind and is going for the Rude Awakening, but Ricky Steamboat jumps up on the apron and Rude turns his attention to him. He turns around… Greetings from Asbury Park! Bam Bam Bigelow is the NEW US Champion! Rude is beside himself as Bigelow and Teddy Long celebrate adding another title to their collection!

Jesse Ventura announces this weeks three stars:

3. Rick Rude

2. Steve Williams

1. Jushin Liger (wins $10,000 wrestler of the night bonus).

Back at the broadcast panel, they run through highlights of tonights broadcast. They focus on Bam Bam Bigelow’s huge title victory and the negative affect that the War Games feud is having on all of it’s participants, as people are losing ranked matches due to the bad blood. Dangerously says that it’ll be good to get closure to this situation by having the Alliance defeat their enemies inside of the War Games structure once and for all, and then move on. Dusty talks about the major week WCW has in store for it’s fans next week, with a special Tuesday night Clash of the Champions to kick off Round 7 of the tournament, and the week will conclude with broadcasts of Main Event, Saturday Night and then the Great American Bash Pay Per View. The group look at the updated rankings after 6 rounds and with that, Dangerously signs off with his touted quote, “It’s Saturday night, folks - Stay Dangerous!”

AROUND THE WORLD

With only two weeks remaining on his contract, it looks like Roddy Piper is set to move on from the WWF. After his divorce, it seems as though he is determine to stay on the road, as a long term contract is not being accepted with any company. What’s next for the Hot Rod?

- Hot on the heels of the changes for the LPWA, Ladies Major League Wrestling shakes things up with two championship changes. Jacqueline captured her first NWA World Women’s Championship by defeating Debbie Combs, making her the first black NWA World Women’s champion. Meanwhile Judy Martin defeated Magnificent Mimi to capture the LMLW Florida Championship for the first time. At the same set of tapings, Bruno Sammartino sparked a new catchphrase “Back home in Italy…” followed by a random, seemingly non-connected statement.

JUNE 92, WEEK 2 : EPISODE 92.19

Harley Race welcomes the world to Clash of the Champions XIX. The broadcast panel of Dusty Rhodes, Harley Race and Paul E Dangerously welcome everyone to a special Tuesday Night broadcast just a few days ahead of Great American Bash 1992! The Clash of the Champions format at a tight focus on action, with zero intermissions, and all 8 matches for the week’s round packed into a single broadcast! We are kicking off Round Seven of the 1992 season with the two front runners of the Premier Division looking to maintain the top spot with their respective matches. Sting and Lex Luger both sit at 5-0-1 records and want to maintain momentum going into Great American Bash. Paul E breaks down the current rankings across all divisions, saying that both The Enforcers and The Steiner’s will be looking to win tonight in their respective matches as well to keep within striking distance of the only perfect record in all of WCW, The Young Pistols. They all agree that tonight is an absolutely loaded card, and wonders if TBS will be able to keep the broadcast going through this events duration? In the background, we see the ring being set up and The Diamond Studd, Vinnie Vegas and Diamond Dallas Page apparently arguing near the stage. Vegas is ripping off his corny tux and throwing it at DDP. The Broadcast panel doesn’t acknowledge this at all and after some more analysis and predictions, they send it right to the ring, saying they’ll see us at the conclusion of all 8 major matches!

trfdq2G.gif We go to the ring where Dan Spivey makes his entrance with Steve Williams accompanying him. Out next is the top ranked wrestler in WCW’s Premier Division, the fan favourite, Sting! They shake hands and circle each other and Dan Spivey takes an early control, using his size to neutralize Sting and back him into the corner where he wails on him as Schiavone comments that this is the second time in their careers that Sting and Spivey have matched up, the first time was in Japan where Spivey won when Sting failed to get the Scorpion Deathlock on Spivey due to his size and it was countered into a victory for Dan. Spivey tries to crush Sting in the corner, but Sting ducks out and then follows up with a Stinger Splash that was not centred against the turnbuckle and sent both men toppling over the ropes, to the floor! They brawl on the floor and Spivey charges Sting back first into the guardrail, then follows up with a press slam, dropping Sting head first on the ramp. Sting is woozy and Spivey brings him back into the ring for a near fall.

Sting tries to get back into this as Spivey keeps his weight on Sting and keeps thwarting Stings efforts to get back into this one. Spivey goes for a big boot, but Sting catches the foot and dragon screws him! Schiavone comments that he must have picked that one up from Muta. Sting goes for the Deathlock, but like in Japan, Spivey’s size resulted in him rolling up Sting for a very near fall! Spivey goes for a power bomb but gets dropped. Sting with the Scorpion Death Drop and Spivey kicks out! The crowd goes wild. Sting yells for the crowd and then goes for the death lock again and this time he locks it in and Spivey has no choice but to tap out. They show respect after the match.

Sting (6-0-1) def. Dan Spivey (2-4-1) in 10:18.

trfdq2G.gif We move on to our second match of the night as Nobuhiko Takada makes his way to the ring with Terry Taylor and Teddy Long to defend his WCW TV Title, and his undefeated streak in 1992. His opponent tonight is Bobby Eaton who is accompanied by Dave Finlay - once again zero support from The Dangerous Alliance and Schiavone and Ross speculate on whether Eaton has been booted from the Alliance after his poor start. These two lock up and start this one off slowly as Eaton controls the Takada early by refusing to allow any distance to form between the two. Schiavone bets that if Eaton is able to capture the TV Title, the Alliance will welcome him back with open arms. Eaton grounds Takada and starts kneeing him in the ribs, before transitioning into a side stretch. Takada is in trouble early - and JR comments that it would be something if Takada lost the gold so quickly after fellow stable-mate Bam Bam won his. Takada rolls to the outside and regroups and Eaton follows him out, closing the distance and clubbing away at him. Takada with a chop to the throat that staggers Eaton backwards and finally, 5 minutes into this one, Takada is able to get some space to game-plan. This turns the tide as Takada goes on a kicking spree around the ringside area and Eaton is running like a dog. Takada rolls back in and Eaton has to follow to avoid getting counted out, resulting in him immediately eating a stiff elbow. Takada locks in a bow and arrow and Eaton shuffles to the ropes.

Both guys get to their feet and stare down, and the crowd shows some respect as this has been good. They get in close and soak in the cheers, and then Eaton pokes Takada in the eyes and takes the advantage. Eaton with a couple moves that turn into near falls, building up in power. Eaton goes for a bulldog - but Takada shoves out of it and as Eaton rebounds off the ropes, Takada strikes with a Roundhouse Kick that knocks out Eaton! Takada scores the pin and retains in what will go down as a classic.

Nobuhiko Takada (6-0-1) def. Bobby Eaton (1-6-0) in 17:17 to retain the WCW TV Title.

Magnum TA is at ringside and he comments on the great action we’ve seen so far. The Young Pistols and The Fantastics join him on the stage and Magnum announces that after deliberation with WCW management, the decision has been made to give the fans the match they missed out on, The Young Pistols vs The Fantastics. That match will take place at Great American Bash. He sends things to the back to Lance Russell quickly, before we’ll get back to the wrestling.

Lance is standing by with Butch Reed and Terry Gordy. He says that their open challenge for Great American Bash has been answered by Dan Spivey, who shows up icing his back. Spivey says that a few weeks ago, One Man Gang came to him asking for support and Spivey turned him away at that point. He feels bad for his friend and he needs to get some momentum going forward himself, so he’s agreed to team up with One Man Gang to take on the open challenge at Great American Bash. Reed and Gordy laugh at their opponents.

trfdq2G.gif It’s time for our first of three tag team matches tonight, as Chaos By Nature makes their way to the ring. Abdullah and Haku are red hot with only one loss to their name. That loss? To the tag team champions, The Enforcers - who has lost to the team that Chaos By Nature faces tonight! The Steiner’s are out for their match and are accompanied by Steamboat, Windham and Rhodes. Abdullah and Rick line up first and just beat the shit out of each other early on. Nothing pretty between these two, just wild brawling. Abdullah gets the advantage and brings Rick to his corner, where Haku gets in. Rick avoids a splash and gets a tag to his brother - and Scott comes in to toss around Haku for a bit with some great throws. Scott goes for a belly-to-belly, but eats a headbutt that staggers him backwards and allows Haku to get the advantage. Chaos By Nature corners Scott now and Abdullah starts to attack him in the corner. Scott is busted open and Schiavone mentions that the violence of Abdullah is a microcosm of the deadliness that is War Games, and he can’t think of a better person to prepare you for that kind of a match. Things break down and referee Bill Alfonso has no control over this as all four men are brawling. Abdullah dropkicks Rick Steiner and stands up to show-off to the crowd, but behind him Scott grabs his waist (barely) and suplexes him over his head, holding a bridge for the three count!

The Steiner Brothers (6-1-0) def. Chaos By Nature (4-2-1) in 14:11.

trfdq2G.gif As the Steiner’s make their way up the ramp, they square off with the tag team champions, The Enforcers - Arn Anderson and Larry Zybysko. The Alliance comes out with the champs and the 10 men facing off at War Games start jaw jacking, but Paul E Dangerously convinces his boys to focus on the match at hand. The distracted champs are coming off of their first loss and are facing off against the self-proclaimed ‘red-hot’ Freebirds who have won their last two matches after a terrible start. At ringside, we see Chris Adams and Al Snow studying the two illustrious tag teams. The Steiner’s are still on the ramp and the Enforcers are yelling at them and the Freebirds jump from behind as this one kicks off. Hayes with a neck breaker to Larry and immediately hits a flying elbow drop for a 2.99 near fall! The Freebirds bring Larry back to their corner and double team away on him. The Enforcers are in trouble as 6 minutes in, Larry has been trapped without a single look at Arn. Larry dodges a clothesline and Arn tags himself in! Arn comes in and cleans house. Hayes and Arn trade some holds and Hayes surprisingly gets the best of Arn, must be that momentum! Hayes goes up top, but Larry shoves him off to the floor. Garvin eats the Double A Spinebuster and The Enforcers pick up the win.

The Enforcers (6-1-0) def. The Fabulous Freebirds (2-5-0) in 10:09.

trfdq2G.gif As the Enforcers celebrate, Austin jumps into the ring and disrobes. He’s ready for his Division two action, as out comes his opponent, Al Perez. Perez gets attacked as he’s entering the ring and Mike Atkins pulls him off and threatens to disqualify him. Perez is shook up and the referee asks him if he’s willing to continue, and he agrees and Austin intensely jumps him in the corner, stomping away at him. Atkins pulls Austin off and Perez is not in a good spot here. Austin laughs and lets Perez get to his feet, and Perez rocks him with a jumping knee, before hitting a snap mare and getting a headlock in quickly. Austin tries to get to his feet and goes off the ropes and eats a back body drop. Perez seems to be rebounding fine and sends Austin off the ropes again, but this time he is hit by a kitchen sink. Austin shakes his head and locks in the Hollywood and Vine and Perez taps out in fairly short order.

Steve Austin (6-1-0) def. Al Perez (2-5-0) in 8:52.

trfdq2G.gif The South East Stronghold is out next to support Jerry Lawler, who is still undefeated in 1992. His opponent tonight is Terrence Taylor who’s been undefeated since joining Teddy Long and this has a lot of intrigue as both men are in the top 5 of Division Two and are vying for promotion into the Premier Division. Taylor is out with Long and Takada, and current US Champion Bam Bam Bigelow is absent tonight as he’s in Japan. Lawler mocks Taylor as Schiavone references that these two men have only ever faced off once, in 1988 where Lawler defended his AWA world championship successfully. Things start off slow as JR comments that neither man will want to risk a loss to the other, as their rankings will come down to head-to-head as a tiebreaker at the end of the season. These two feel each other out and you can see them both smiling as each man thinks they can outsmart the other. This goes back and forth without either man getting an advantage. Lawler makes the first move going for a suplex and gets cradled instead for a near fall. Taylor then goes for a scoop slam and Lawler rolls through for a pin attempt of his own. They continue to test each other as time ticks by and neither man gets any advantage cleanly, so Lawler pokes Taylor in the eye and chucks him out of the ring. The rest of the Stronghold surrounds Taylor, and Takada gets in the middle and stands up to all of them, kicking Flamingo in the face, and he falls under the apron and a ton of officials come out and escort all the ringside talent to the back.

Taylor and Lawler square off after the noise has been cleared out and Lawler isn’t too pleased that his friends are gone. He argues with the ref a bit and then takes a few chances to prevent any further action as JR comments that Lawler, as despicable as he is, is a smart guy who’s recalibrating to figure out a different strategy to get into Taylor’s head. Taylor starts to get annoyed with Lawler and nearly gets caught by a roll up. Lawler goes for the piledriver, but he’s dropped over the top rope and it’s a nasty spill as he bangs his hip on the side of the ring. Taylor is building up momentum as Lawler is clearly hurt. Taylor locks in the Rooster Wing and Lawler barely makes it to the ropes to get the break. Taylor lines up for the FiveArm but Flamingo re-emerges and distracts him. Lawler clips Taylor and hits a strange piledriver with Taylor tangled up in the ropes, but referee Unno won’t count as Taylors legs are still tangled in the ropes. Lawler pulls him to the centre of the ring, but time expires. Lawler is livid and Flamingo argues with the referee, but this is a draw!

Terrence Taylor drew Jerry Lawler when the 20:00 minute time limit expired.

trfdq2G.gif The Southern Rockers are in the ring, waiting for their opponents. The announcers talk about the Rockers picking up their first win, and think that their celebration will be short lived. Out come their opponents, El Gigante and Big Josh. La Parka is following them to the ring, and they seem to be all business tonight after yet another loss cost them the US Tag Team Titles. The Rockers attack them as they enter, stomping away. Josh makes his way to his feet first and clotheslines both opponents. He helps Gigante get to his feet and Gigante chops both opponents down. Big and Bigger play to the crowd for a moment, before Gigante chokeslams both of his opponents and pins Rex King for the extremely short victory. JR says that’s the best these two men have looked all year and Schiavone says he missed the whole match.

Big and Bigger (3-4-0) def. The Southern Rockers (1-6-0) in 2:36.

Things are cooled down as we prepare for our main event. Ahead of the match a video package is aired displaying the ongoing story between Wahoo McDaniel and Cactus Jack, celebrating the closing of the career of Wahoo and rise of Cactus Jack. This weekend at Great American Bash, the two men will compete in Wahoo’s well-known match type, the Indian Strap Match, with a Cactus Jack inspired Death-match spin.

It’s time for the main event! Barry Windham is out for his match, and he may not be the favourite, but he’s definitely got the heart to pull off an upset. He’s accompanied by Dustin Rhodes. The World Champion comes out next and Lex Luger is accompanied by Harley Race. Luger and Windham lock up and Luger displays his strength by shoving Windham to the mat and flexing. Ron Simmons emerges with a folding chair and takes a seat on the ramp near the timekeepers table. Barry takes advantage of Luger being distracted by Simmons and attacks him from behind. Windham with a scoop slam and he goes to the second rope to hit a knee drop from a near fall. Luger regains the momentum and starts to pick apart Windham and we keep getting teases of Simmons at ringside.

Luger goes for the Torture Rack, but Windham squirms out of it and sends Luger onto the ramp. Windham and Luger brawl in front of Simmons. Luger gets the upper hand for a moment and again turns his attention to Simmons, which results in Simmons telling him to watch his back and Windham hitting him hard with a clothesline. Back in the ring, Luger gets the win with the Torture Rack. He wants to cut a promo, but each time he opens his mouth, Simmons rings the timekeeper bell. Luger's not to thrilled about this.

Lex Luger (6-0-1) def. Barry Windham (2-5-0) in 15:13.

Author’s Note
It’s been a few weeks! Sorry for disappearing, between the forum switch over and a peak at work, my personal momentum on this died out. But rest assured, I have no intent on letting this die! I have a vacation planned for next week, so this will remain slower than I’d like, but the following week I’ll aim to return to my normal pace for this.
