The Birth of the Great Muta

Recommended Posts

Keiji Mutoh is just starting out in wrestling. His father is known as The Great Kabuki and Mutoh would like to adapt that same persona. He already has a name for it, The Great Muta. But it all depends if the promoters want to use that name and that gimmnick for him. Fact of the matter is, Muta is unemployed and looking for work. Following on his father's footsteps, he decides to try outside of Japan, as well as in Japan. Muta never recovers and after a Running Neckbreaker and a second Shinning Wizard, Kanemoto wins 2-0 at 5:20! [B]Winner 2-0: Keiji Kanemoto at 5:20[/B] With his pride squashed, Muta considers if he should quit. He got embarrased. But no, he cannot quit at this. This is his craft and he will do better the next match.

Sunday passes by and HCW fails to book him. Perhaps they heard of the squash and figured he was not worth it. But on Thursday, UPWF call him again and book him...again...against Koji Kanemoto...again. [B]UPWF The Great Muta vs Koji Kanemoto One Fall to the Finish Purse: $1,000, 80% to the winner, 20% to the loser Time Limit: 60 minutes DQ's: ON Count Out: ON Illegal Top Rope Moves: ON Strict DQ's: ON Stoppages for Blood Loss: ON[/B] 6:30 gone by and Muta is still fighting! He managed to ground Kanemoto and control the match for a while, but the offensive exchanges have been constant and neither man has an advantage. Around 7:50, Kanemoto gets a near fall out of a charging roll-up. He then tries a dropkick, but Muta blocks and then nails a charging basement dropkick for a very near fall at 8:50. Kanemoto tries a bodypress, but Muta lands on top for a close two. Muta with a Double Underhook Suplex and an elbow to the knee, but Kanemoto blocks the Achilles Tendon Hold. Kanemoto charges at Muta with a dropkick, but he evades the move and catches Kanemoto with an Arrow Suplex! 1-2-3!!!!! Muta wins at 10:00!!! [B]Winner by pinfall after Arrow Suplex: The Great Muta(10:00,C-)[/B] Muta did his homework on Kanemoto after being squashed and it paid off with a smart, solid victory. Of course, Kanemoto never tried the Shinning Wizard and that too, could have been a factor.

Sunday arrives and this time HCW books him against Brady Boone. [B]Houston Championship Wrestling: The Great Muta vs Brady Boone 2/3 falls Purse: $525, 80% to winner, 20% to loser Time Limit: 60 minutes DQ's: ON Count Out: ON Illegal Top Rope Moves: ON Strict DQ's: ON Stoppages for Blood Loss: ON[/B] Muta managed to ground Boone for 7 minutes, but he makes a huge comeback and busts open Muta at the 12:10 mark after a roundhouse kick! He tries a Roundhouse Body Punch, but Muta counters into an Abdominal Stretch Roll-up for two! Boone proceeds to dismantle Muta for almost ten minutes, yet he wont go down, not to the bear hug, not to any submission holds or pinfall. Muta gets a lucky Body Press for a near fall at 29:10. Muta now takes the advantage, in a hurry, since he is bleeding and the ref can and will stop the match if it gets to severe. Muta drops two elbows into the knee and manages to lock the Achilles Tendon Hold!! Boone taps and Muta takes the first fall at 29:50! Second fall begins with Boone trying to do something, but favoring the leg heavily. He goes for the bear hug, but fails to sustain it due to his leg failing him. He whips Muta into the corner and tries a clothesline, but Muta moves and drops him with a chop block! Elbowdrop to Leg, then a Knee Stomp! Muta locks the Figure Four in the center of the ring and Boone taps at 33:20! Muta wins and the fans chant "That Was Awesome"! [B]Winner 2-0 after submissions with the Achilles Tendon Hold and Figure Four: The Great Muta(33:20,A*!)[/B] Not only was it a big win, but also a great match that should help Muta get booked more frequently stateside.

Sunday comes by and HCW does not call Muta. He felt really bad since he tought he had impressed them with his last match there. On Sunday, the always faithful Universal Pro-Wrestling Federation in Japan calls Muta with some work. [B]UPWF The Great Muta vs Hiroshii Hoshima One Fall to the Finish Purse: $1,000, 80/20 split Rules of engagement: Time Limit: 60 minutes DQ's: ON Count Out: ON Illegal Top Rope Moves: ON Strict DQ's: ON Stoppages for Blood Loss: ON[/B] Muta never had a chance. Hoshima worked him over in the mat for three minutes, with Muta staying defensive. Muta's small comeback involved weardown holds as he tried to stop Hoshima's momentum, but Hoshima nailed a Roundhouse Kick, followed by the Running Enziguri Kick for the pinfall win at 6:50! This is a huge setback for Muta's career in Japan. [B]Winner by pinfall after the Running Enziguri Kick: Hiroshi Hoshima(6:50, F)[/B]

Houston Championship Wrestling gladly called Muta for their next show. His opponent would one day be great and this would be consider a great dream match, but now, they are just two youngsters looking to make a name. [B]Houston Championship Wrestling The Great Muta vs Shawn Michaels One fall to the finish Purse: $1,000 80/20 split Rules of engagement: Time Limit: 60 minutes DQ's: ON Count Out: ON Illegal Top Rope Moves: ON Strict DQ's: ON Stoppages for Blood Loss: ON[/B] The match began with a quick series of lead exchanges, involving headock takedowns, arm drags and the like. Muta settles in control and lands several stomps and locks weardown holds. Michaels makes a short lived comeback that ends when he tries a basement dropkick and Muta moves. After this, Muta nails a basement dropkick of his own, followed by a seated back kick. He sits down Michaels and runs the ropes, connecting with The Shinning Wizard! That gets the pinfall at 9:00 and the fans pelt the ring with trash, feeling cheated away from a good match. [B]Winner by pinfall after Shinning Wizard: The Great Muta(9:00, F)[/B] Yes, Muta used the same move that Koji Kanemoto beat him with twice. He realised the potential to keep using it as a finisher and maybe bring it over to Japan.

On Sunday Muta got two calls. Houston Championship Wrestling wanted him for a tag team match, but Polynesian Pro Wrestling called him for their big monthly event. Muta was torn, but decided that a singles match in a new company was more enticing and took PPW's booking, albeit for less money. [B]Polynesian Pro Wrestling The Great Muta vs Farmer Boy Ipo One Fall to the Finish Purse: $500, 80/20 split Rules of engagement: Time Limit: 60 minutes DQ's: ON Count Out: ON Illegal Top Rope Moves: OFF Strict DQ's: ON Stoppages for Blood Loss: ON[/B] Muta sure made a bad decision! This big samoan mauled him eternally, granting him almost zero offense. Muta managed to survive one Running Powerslam at 8:50, but fell prey to the second one at 10:20! [B]Winner by pinfall after Running Powerslam: Farmer Boy Ipo!(10:20, C+)[/B] Tag teaming with The Snowman does not sound so bad right now.

But this time Muta manages to comeback and weardown Hoshina, getting a near fall out of a basement dropkick and anotherone after a Crackwhip Elbow. Hoshina makes the superman comeback and really puts Muta in trouble, getting a very near fall out of a Running Enziguri Kick. He tries a second one, but Muta counters into a Dragon Screw Legwhip and proceeds to work that leg like a pro.Hoshina blocks the Achilles Tendon Hold and goes for a Powerslam, but Muta slips back and gets the Abdominal Stretch Roll-up for the pinfall win at 14:50! [B]Winner by pinfall after Abdominal Stretch Roll-up: The Great Muta!(14:50, C+)[/B] It feels good to win against those who had beaten you before!

Tough loss to Ipo... but he's Farmer Boy Ipo, for crying out loud! :) And great win over Hoshina! That should really help the confidence of young Muta. I tell you, though... that Shane Michaels, or whatever his name... I predict a car wash gig for that Tom Cruise wannabe in the near future. ;)
