(CV77) Championship Wrestling from Boston

Going into its 17th year, Championship Wrestling from Boston is the longest running wrestling show on television. The success of the program stems from Promoter Gene Plumelli bringing some of the premier wrestlers from around the world to the show. Throughout the shows early years it became the lucrative promotion in the United States. The Main Event of the weekly television show would be a big match take place fans were used to only seeing on big arena shows. This formula worked well even going into the 1970’s. The 1970’s saw more of the same, yet getting some of the top wrestlers became difficult when trust fund boy Richard Eisen opened the Supreme Wrestling Federation in 1972. Plumelli began relying more on wrestlers who he felt he could trust. Ed “Strangler” Henson, Buck Winslow, “Wild Man” Sullivan, Vernon Wales, among others were the wrestlers consistently featured in Boston. Charles Davison nicknamed “The Boston Bomber” began gaining a lot of fan backing and a big push in 1973. His charismatic, man of the people persona rose him right up the card in position for a Heavyweight Title match. In 1974, the promotion had a facelift as longtime Champion Ed “Strangler” Henson retired after losing the Heavyweight Strap to who became the new top guy of the promotion, “The Boston Bomber” himself Charles Davison.

At the start of 1975 “Wild Man” Sullivan returned to Boston after a tour of Japan. Having been a former Boston Heavyweight Champion, he got his shot at “The Boston Bomber” and won the championship with an Illegal Piledriver. This ignited a heated feud between the two. They began battling back and forth over two years trading the Heavyweight Title between each other. In November 1976, Sullivan regained the belt from the Bomber using the Illegal Piledriver again when the referee fell outside the ring. This caused a rematch for December at Boston Wrestle Party in a Steel Cage, where Sullivan be suspended for 90 days if he uses the Piledriver. Can “The Boston Bomber” regain the championship from his bitter rival? Will he survive inside the Steel Cage with the wild man?

Elsewhere in the promotion, Anarchist known as Identity Black and the ruthless Corporal Doom have teamed up to demolish the competition. They injured former Tag Team Champions Bobby Linquist & The Stomper. Gene Plumelli sought out a big challenge for the duo though signing a match for Black & Doom to take on Black’s longtime rival returning to Boston The Masked Patriot and 400 pounder “Big” Ted Muchnick. Also ongoing is The London Gentlemen (Othello Dawson & Edward Monroe) and The War Eagles (Damon Carruthers & Warren Young) battling over the Boston Tag Team Titles. The War Eagles regained the Tag Team Titles from The Brits in November. Will the Gentlemen experience serve them better in their rematch or will the size of the former gridiron titans be too much for them?

(OOC: This is my first Diary in a long time. I have wanted to make this Diary for a long time, but focused my time on updating the C-Verse 1977 mod. I feel like now I finally am ready to write a weekly wrestling show once again. I started writing on GDS around 2014, I wrote dynasties about the Monday Night War (MP), 1992 WCW vs WWF (MP), the NWA Big Seven, PGHW, and even a GDS Dynasty Show. Also off site I wrote for an NWA League that tried to recapture the old territory system in fantasy. Unfortunately many of these endeavors wouldn't last too long for one reason or another, whether that be burn out or personal reasons. With that, one of my focuses of this will be not to go into too much detail for weekly shows. Writing out the key parts of segments to get the point across. This is the best way to combat burn out for myself and be able to get out shows under 1000 words. With that I hope y'all are ready for some old school wrestling in the C-Verse!)

A story not previously spoken about that popped up during December of 1976. Buck Winslow's search for a protege in Boston. A veteran of the area, Winslow held the Tag Team Title on one occasion, won the Pier 6 Battle Royal, and competed in the first Boston Brawl Match that he won against "Wild Man" Sullivan. These are just some of Winslow's credentials. Any young wrestler would be more than lucky to have him as their mentor!

December 1976 Buck Winslow’s Protégé

“10 Punch” Buck Winslow has been looking for a protégé to teach. He’s going to be keeping a close eye on the wrestlers who show him the skills he’s looking for. Wayne DeSota a rookie who has been wrestling in Boston for a few months interrupts him saying he would be the perfect protégé and would love to be taught by Mr. Winslow. Buck tells him to show him what he’s got. DeSota defeats Paddy O’Connor in around 6 minutes. Winslow wasn’t too impressed.

The following week, Buck is talking about how he will be on commentary for the show, DeSota interrupts saying he has to be the protégé now after that big win last week. Buck tells him to calm down and says he has to do more than win one match. DeSota is perplexed says he’ll do more than win once. Irish Heavyweight Walter Flanagan wins a match in quick order and Buck is very impressed on commentary with his personality and skill.

Buck talks to Flanagan telling him he has many skills he likes to see and is keeping a close eye on him. DeSota interrupts this and challenges Flanagan to meet him in the ring. DeSota makes fun of his Irish accent and his mother so Flanagan goes in beats DeSota from pillar to post and before Flanagan can put him away DeSota runs off taking a Count Out loss.

DeSota says Winslow is a has-been who does not need as a mentor. The fact Buck did not take Wayne’s offer to teach him was stupid. DeSota derides Walter Flanagan calling him an Irish Drunk who he will send back to the bar where he belongs...

Loving the start to this diary. I've always looked longingly at CWB in the 77 database and I know your additions to that great mod have been stellar. Still, like most people, I have no idea who most of the characters are, so it's all very new and I'm looking forward to where this goes.

Charles Davison aka “The Boston Bomber”

BIO:

Charles Davison entered wrestling via a friendship between his priest father and referee for Championship Wrestling from Boston Sam Matysik. Davison was explosive defensive lineman in high school making him in top athletic condition to join the mat wars. He took his football nickname on as his ring name christened The Boston Bomber in his debut victory on television. Gene Plumelli saw something in the youngster giving him wins regularly on television. Eventually after programs with veterans of the area, Bomber won the Tag Team Titles with Jazz Cat Washington in 1974. His wit and high energy made him quickly beloved by the Boston faithful. As current Boston Heavyweight Champion Ed “The Strangler” Henson was calling it quits Plumelli called on The Boston Bomber to be the one to dethrone the legend. July 1974 saw The Boston Bomber claim the Heavyweight Title in the Boston Grand Garden Palace in front of 14,000 strong. Since then The Bomber has been the most liked wrestler in Boston. There is no one the crowd gets louder for when he enters the room than The Boston Bomber. The Bombers feeds on this supports and has allowed him to fight for the city and people he loves.

“Wild Man” Sullivan

BIO:

Known for his harsh punishment of his opponents with an aggressive style that will leave welts on your eyes just watching. Sullivan dominates challengers in any promotion he competes in having sold out arenas in Boston, New York, and Tokyo. A master of the Piledriver he often will injure those he is in the ring with. His excuse is its wrestling and if the wimps can’t take the pain they shouldn’t be here. With this mindset, he has had tough brawls with Buck Winslow, Master Kitozon, Edmond Jackson, and The Boston Bomber. The last of those names he has been fighting in Boston for the last two years. Whether he wins or loses Sullivan will always make sure his opponents wear reminders of his brutality.

*CAGE MATCH*

rV7ySk1.png5KyQqZV.png

© Wild Man Sullivan def. The Boston Bomber

in 23 minutes when Sullivan did a Reverse Kneeling Piledriver type maneuver on the already hurt neck of The Bomber. This maneuver did not lead to a disqualification because of it not being the typical spiked Piledriver. Bomber convulsed as Sullivan pinned him. After the match, a stretcher carried out The Bomber who required a neck brace.

OOC: These posts were to set up what's going on as 1977 begins. Shows will be more descriptive going forward.
