Shane Burgos Frustrated Steven Ray in PFL 5 Headliner

Shane Burgos managed to win in the Professional Fighters League.

Burgos (16-4, 1-1 PFL) picked up his first win of the season with a unanimous decision over fellow Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Steven Ray as they headlined PFL 3 on Friday inside Esports Stadium Arlington in Texas. All three cageside judges scored 29-28 scorecards for the American.

Burgos, despite the cut he suffered in the first round, resorted to other means and with a sharp striking won the first round. In the second round, Burgos blocked Ray, nullifying the grappling of the Scotsman, and hitting the best blows. Only in the final minutes of the fight did Ray manage to impose himself on the ground and even with the dominance, he didn't submit and by that time the luck had already been cast.

In the co-main event Aspen Ladd once again showed her dominance and easily defeated Olena Kolesnyk with an armbar in the third round. In the first two rounds Ladd used wrestling and easily took down Kolesnyk. In the third round Ladd went to define the fight and with another takedown he got the submission guaranteeing four more points in the classification.

Still on the main card, last year's lightweight champion Olivier Aubin-Mercier dominated Egypt's Ahmed Amir and won by unanimous decision; Marina Mokhnatkina remained undefeated in the PFL by beating Amanda Leve by unanimous decision and in the opening of the main card Raush Manfio faced Clay Collard for the second time, again Manfio won but this time the Brazilian did not leave it in the hands of the judges, and submitted Collard at the end of the third round.

In the preliminary fights, Larissa Pacheco recovered and quickly defeated Amber Leibrock by submission in the first round and won the six points and guaranteed her qualification to the playoffs; Natan Schulte defeated Yamato Nishikawa by unanimous decision and managed to qualify for his third playoff; Martina Jindrova overcame veteran Alexis Davis after three rounds of total dominance; PFL veteran Alex Martinez was defeated by Abdul-Aziz Abdulvakhabov in the third round, however both failed to qualify; Julia Budd qualified after winning a close fight over Karolina Sobek by split decision and took away Sobek's unbeaten record.

Anthony Pettis Dominates Dilano Taylor in PFL 6 Main Event

Former UFC and WEC Lightweight Champion and Professional Fighters League star Anthony Pettis made a statement in the main event of PFL 6 and secured the No. 1 ranking in the Welterweight Playoffs.

The final bout of the night saw Pettis (27-14, 3-3 in the PFL) take on opponent Dilano Taylor (11-4, 3-3 in the PFL). Pettis quickly finished off Taylor with a sequence of powerful punches and finishing with a ground and pound to the stoppage at 2:14 of the first round. With that, Pettis added six points in a fight where the skill difference was clear and will advance to the playoffs.

The co-main event featured an explosive battle between Brendan Loughnane and UFC veteran Jeremy Stephens. The timing of both showed the difference between them currently. Loughnane had no difficulties and defeated Stephens by TKO in the beginning of the second round. With a very aggressive start, last season's champion landed hard blows and took Stephens to a knockdown, but the American survived. The second round was no different with Loughnane dominating Stephens and with another knockdown and some ground strikes, referee Herb Dean stopped the fight.

The main card also featured the debut of former UFC veteran Kevin Lee, who came in as a replacement for Magomed Umalatov, and quickly defeated Shane Mitchell in the first round. With the victory and 6 points, Lee managed to qualify for the playoffs.

Two other qualifiers in their divisions also won on the main card. Chris Wade had another safe fight and dominated Daniel Torres to secure another 3 points. And Thad Jean had a slightly more competitive fight against Jarrah Al-Silawi but also overcame him by unanimous decision of the judges.

On the preliminary card, the highlight was Bubba Jenkins who beat Alejandro Flores with a TKO in the second round. In the other fights Movlid Khaybulaev dominated Ryoji Kudo for three rounds and came out with a unanimous decision; David Zawada was one of the underdogs of the night as he beat last season's welterweigh champion Sadibou Sy by unanimous decision; Magomed Magomedkerimov defeated Carlos Leal in a tough battle by split decision and in the first fight of the card Lance Palmer won again surpassing Gabriel Alves Braga by unanimous decision.

It's Official: Nate Diaz Signs with Professional Fighters League

After months of speculation, Nate Diaz has signed a contract with the North American organization PFL.

After his spectacular submission victory over Tony Ferguson at UFC 279, Diaz's contract ended and he opted for free agency. Recovering from two consecutive defeats, Diaz was looking for a duel in Boxing, as well as a salary increase in the UFC, something that did not happen.

What kind of numbers Diaz was looking for is unknown and depending on who you ask, they vary wildly. Dana White has stated numerous times that Diaz was looking to become the highest paid wrestler in the company, while Diaz himself has stated that he only wanted a small pay raise.

The move had been expected for some time since the apparent falling out with White in recent months.

Nate Diaz provides a very valuable piece to the puzzle of the PFL in structuring the Superfight division, which recently saw the addition of Jake Paul and Francis Ngannou. Without ever fighting for the company, he is automatically one of the most recognizable faces. He comes in as a franchisee, no doubt, who will stock up on the promotion overnight.

Breaking News: Conor McGregor leaves UFC, signs with PFL

Former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor announced on Tuesday that he has signed with the Professional Fighters League.

“The last few months have been very interesting to understand and see that my time in the UFC has come to an end, but I am very excited about this deal with the PFL,” McGregor told Blurcat.com. "They've got big plans and they don't want to come across as just a promotion looking for a fighter, but really come across as a partner who sees more value in you."

According to Blurcar.com, it provided some insight into the fighter's contract with the PFL. He is committed to ten fights and is guaranteed to receive one of the biggest purses for each fight.

"Various sources who were aware of his negotiations and the deal informed Blurcat.com that this deal would not only make him one of the highest paid fighters in the PFL, but would also give him an almost unheard of level of freedom and favorable terms."

As part of his deal with the promotion, the 35-year-old will join PFL Africa President Francis Ngannou and his involvement in the organization will be a partner in PFL Europe.

PFL chief executive Peter Murray said the PFL is growing and will soon be the biggest MMA league.

The MMA star has not fought since his TKO loss to Paddy Pimblett at UFC Fight Night: Nunes vs. Pennington in April. His last win was in January 2020 when McGregor knocked out Donald Cerrone.

After the loss to Pimblett, Dana White declared that perhaps Conor was not motivated and ended up releasing him from his contract with the UFC and this left many fans wondering what his next step would be, which was announced this Tuesday.

Lineup Revealed for Friday's PFL Europe 3 Event

The third PFL Europe event had its lineup announced on Friday night.

This Friday, the promotion announced the complete roster of the card, which features athletes who won the first two editions of PFL Europe. The PFL Europe semi-final will be headlined by the bantamweight duel between Dominique Wooding and Antun Racic. In the co-main event, Melinda Fábiàn will face Emilia Czerwinska at the women's flyweight division.

“The third edition of PFL Europe is going to be amazing and I am excited that fight fans will have another chance to watch these world-class competitors step into the SmartCage and put everything on the line,” said new member and PFL Europe partner Conor McGregor, who announced that he will be at the event.

Big News: PFL buys Bellator MMA

Majority owners of the Professional Fighters League have agreed to purchase one of the world's leading mixed martial arts companies, Bellator MMA, in an agreement that will establish megafights between fighters from both promotions and possibly draw large pay-per-view audiences.

At a press conference held this afternoon in New York, the Professional Fighters League announced the purchase of one of the biggest mixed martial arts companies today, Bellator MMA, in an agreement that will establish mega fights between the fighters of the two promotions and possibly attract big pay-per-view audiences at future PFL Superfights to be announced shortly.

Company executives declined to comment on the sale price, but a person familiar with the negotiations told the Blurcat.com that the PFL will buy Bellator for at least $50 million. The person was not authorized to speak to reporters and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The deal was completed on Tuesday and was announced during the press conference in New York, where Peter Murray, CEO of PFL, has been negotiating with the directors of Viacom, which own Bellator MMA.

"We've been talking to Viacom for a few months now," said Murray. "It's been a long, drawn-out process, but we finally managed to bring the two brands together."

With the purchase by the PFL, the company will take over Bellator's assets, including its trademarks, video library and valuable Bellator roster. At first, the PFL intends to keep Bellator and promote fights under that brand.

The acquisition marks a new phase in PFL's quest to consolidate itself as the second most valuable brand in the MMA world.

"This is really going to change the face of MMA," said Murray. "This merger is literally going to help the sport even more and will certainly bring great fights to the fans."

The deal allows the PFL to broker the biggest fights possible in the near future, increasing its influence in this sports entertainment business.

"We will literally be able to make the fights that everybody want to see," Murray said. "It will allow us to put some of the greatest fights of all time."

In the past, there was at least one case where Bellator was put up for sale to get closer to the UFC, and the new owner of the brand, Viacom, even with a good roster of fighters and big deals like Showtime, failed and had to put the brand up for sale after suffering a recent financial hit.

The purchase of Bellator will give the PFL the rights to some of the most popular fighters outside of the UFC, such as: A.J. McKee, Patricio Freire, Ryan Bader, Vadim Nemkov among others.

Professional Fighters League Announces finals of the Season and Europe

The Professional Fighters League finals have been announced. At a press conference, the PFL President announced the final card of the PFL Season 2023 and the PFL Europe Finals.

Following the conclusion of the 2023 regular season and a playoff, the PFL will return to New York City for a stacked Finals card, scheduled to be held at the Hulu Theater in the prestigious Madison Square Garden.

The organization announced in a press release on Wednesday, with PFL CEO Peter Murray confirming that the main card will be shown on Pay-per-view by iNDemand.

“I am excited to announce that the 2023 PFL World Championship is set for Friday, November 24th, and the stage cannot be bigger than the primetime iNDemand PPV staged live in New York City at the Hulu Theater in New York City. Madison Square Garden,” Murray said. “This special year-end pay-per-view event is packed with talented stars and championship drama as the PFL will hand fans six world title fights with six belts and $6 million on the line.”

The card will headline former UFC and WEC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis against former UFC Lightweight Interim Challenger Kevin Lee.

The co-main event will see Natan Schulte, seeking his third title in the PFL, facing Steven Ray, who was runner-up last season.

Elsewhere in the night's title bouts, Marcelo Nunes and Denis Goltsov will clash with heavyweight gold on the line, current light heavyweight champion Rob Wilkinson will have a rematch against English prospect Simeon Powell, Brendan Loughnane will face again Bubba Jenkins at featherweight, and Marina Mokhnatkina will have a rematch against Larissa Pacheco to define the first female featherweight champion.

Before a stacked PPV roster, several notable fighters will be in action during a preliminary set of fights. This includes former UFC veteran Jeremy Stephens, who will face two-time featherweight champion Lance Palmer.

The PFL Europe finals will take place at the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland and will feature the final of the Light heavyweight, Lightweight, Bantamweight and Women's Flyweight tournaments, in addition to the debut of Gunnar Nelson who will face the 2022 PFL season champion Sadibou Sy at main event of the night.

Sy was eventually eliminated from the PFL regular season with two decision losses to Anthony Pettis and David Zawada. He even had the chance to be the reserve fighter in the final, in case a finalist was injured, but he was outclassed by Samandar Murodov with a Kneebar.

Nelson is a UFC veteran and partner of Conor McGregor, and comes to the PFL after being cut from the UFC in a first-round TKO loss to Miguel Baeza in July.

In the finals of the tournament the PFL announced a change. Bogdan Gnidko was injured in his last fight and had to leave the tournament, Ivan Vitasovic was called in his place and will have the chance of a rematch against Emilio Quissua, who won the fight between them by unanimous decision.

The other finals will proceed normally as planned. Daniel Teymur will face Aleksandr Chizov at lightweight, Dominique Wooding will face Ali Taleb at bantamweight and Melinda Fabian will face Izabela Badurek at women's flyweight.

Finalized PFL Superfights Lineup Includes Three Title Fights

Three title fights will serve as featured attractions when PFL heads to New York in last card of the year.

The PFL has announced that three season champions Olivier Aubin-Mercier, Ante Delija and Kayla Harrison will fight for the Superfights belt against MMA stars Conor McGregor, Francis Ngannou and Cris Cyborg, respectively.

Leading the card Conor McGregor will make his long awaited return. His last win was in January 2020 and he will be looking to break the streak of three straight defeats. Meanwhile his opponent, Olivier Aubin-Mercier is undefeated in the PFL with a 7-0 record, and was champion of the 2022 season. He was participating in the regular season this year but an injury took him out of competition, but the organization chose him to dispute the title against McGregor.

The co-main event will feature two dangerous strikers. After failing to renew with the UFC, former heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou will make his debut against 2022 season champion Ante Delija. Ngannou has not lost since July 2018 and is on a six-fight winning streak, including notable knockouts over Cain Velasquez, Junior dos Santos and Stipe Miocic. His opponent, Ante Delija is a veteran in the PFL smartcage, and was the champion of the 2022 season. This year Delija had a 1-2 record being eliminated in the playoffs by the season champion and next challenger, Marcelo Nunes.

The third main event will feature the highly anticipated women's duel between two-time PFL season champion Kayla Harrison against former UFC, Strikeforce, Invicta FC and Bellator champion Cris Cyborg. Harrison will make her first fight of 2023, she hasn't fought since losing her first professional loss to Larissa Pacheco in the 2022 season finale. Cris Cyborg will also make her first and only fight of 2023. The MMA legend is on a six-fight winning streak, with her five under the Bellator banner all being title fights.

The main card still features a welterweight duel between former UFC champions Robbie Lawler and Eddie Alvarez and in the opening Thiago Santos will face Rashad Evans.

The event takes place at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York.
