GCG: Giving The Tiger Its Roar Back

Wow! How did I miss this one? Your write-ups are clear and you've got a good fed for subject matter, but you absolutely knock it out of the park in terms of layout, man! This dynasty is eeeaaaassssy on the eyes. I never have the patience for that much coding, but it really pays off. I'll be reading.

I have my photobucket account opened up in another tab, so it's just copy and paste to get the stuff in there. One write up only takes me about 15 minutes, which isn't that much in the greater scheme of things.
Vessey Loves GCG One match in, and Cameron Vessey already views himself as a fixture in GCG, so much so that he’s declared that he’s going to be loyal to GCG and it’ll be hard to sign him up anywhere else, as he’s on an exclusive per appearance deal. While PGHW and Burning Hammer could offer him more money, he’s apparently putting more value in GCG giving him his first break in wrestling.
Sneaky. ;) Gotta love Japan when those prime rookies debut, eh? I'll have Alicia Strong on my roster (and only my roster) until 5SSW goes bankrupt (which will be never). This is one hell of a diary. :)

One more step down to the Parade of Champions... GCG Waking The Ghosts Tuesday, Week 3, February 2007 from Doshisha Athletic Center in Kinki in front of 1,000 people (SELL OUT!) Announcers: Hidetada Kozu & Hanshiro Furusawa It’s a pity that INSPIRE and TCW had shows the same night as us, because we didn’t have access to either Stuart Ferdinand or Pistol Pete Hall, which fouled up the main event and made it not the main event anymore after the substitutions we made. Also, Shingen Miyazaki and Julian Watson chose the INSPIRE show also. Aaron Andrews obviously picked TCW over us. We were working with a smaller talent pool, and it may be for the better, as lately, we’re hemorrhaging money. We only have a shade over 200,000 in the bank, which means we’ve blown through 200,000 in the space of one and a half months. We aren’t built to spend 100k a month. After the tour is done, some pink slips may be coming. Anyway, on to the official show, as we dispensed with the dark matches also tonight. Nigerian Hit Squad vs. Stevie Grayson/Quick Kick Nakao Two of our hard luck cases in GCG teamed up to take on the new kids in town, Nigerian Hit Squad. Grayson and Nakao showed that they have a lot to offer, as they led Rashid & Rahabad through a half-way decent match, and carried them enough that they didn’t need assistance to the back at the end. Kozu & Furusawa were really on their game this match, so that was appreciated also. Quick Kick was the one who got the pinfall, as he debuted his new finisher, a jumping enzuigiri he calls the Eponym. Winners: Grayson/Nakao in 12:23 when Nakao used the Eponym on Rashid. Cameron Vessey vs. Barry Griffin This match was an experiment of sorts. Number one, can Griffin impart any knowledge to the youngster Vessey? Number two, can they both withstand a nearly 20 minute match? Unfortunately, the answer to both of those questions was a resounding no. Vessey was showing signs of wearing down, and Griffin was positively spent by the end. It probably took all of Griffin’s strength to hook Vessey’s leg and pin him with the Union Jack. There was a good sign though – Kozu is really feeling it tonight, as he even made this match sound intense and interesting, as Griffin sucked wind for most of it. Winner: Griffin in 18:20 with the Union Jack. Dark Angel vs. Mamoru Nagahama This match was unannounced, as Dark Angel has been feeling the effects of a grueling schedule for both us and NOTBPW. We figured we’d give him a boost by setting him up against Nagahama, who has looked good so far in his try-out. He only has one match left after this one, and he’ll need it, as he was unsuccessful in upsetting Dark Angel. Angel was able to withstand Nagahama’s barrage of suplexes and finally hooked him with the Descent Into Hell for the win. Winner: Dark Angel in 9:04 with the Descent Into Hell. Takayuki 2000 vs. Kiminobu Kuroki vs. Sean Deeley This triangle match was one of Deeley’s last matches with GCG before he goes back to Canada, and he definitely made it count. His interchanges with Takayuki were stunning, and he even made Kuroki look good. However, the length of the match yet again exposed Kuroki. As he was sucking for wind on the outside, Takayuki capitalized by beginning his offensive on Deeley’s legs. Even Deeley’s amateur background couldn’t stop Takayuki, as he showed great tenacity in attacking Deeley’s vertical base. He finally got him down to the ground long enough to lock in the Persian Deathlock, and Deeley tapped before Kuroki could do anything about it from the arena floor to end an excellent match. Winner: Takayuki in 18:04 when he used the Persian Deathlock on Deeley. Namboku Makuda/Henry Bennett/Toshiharu Hyobanshi vs. Kazuma Narato/Nathan Coleman/Hiroyasu Gakusha This is what was salvaged out of the announced Bennett/Hall/Hyobanshi vs. Coleman/Ferdinand/Gakusha match due to Hall choosing TCW over us and Ferdinand wanting to work for INSPIRE. It worked though, as Makuda and Hyobanshi have tagged on numerous occasions, and Narato and Gakusha should still be familiar with each other from their match on Sunday. Even so, this match was a bit of a disappointment. Per usual, Hyobanshi and Gakusha looked good, but that can’t really be said of anyone else. Makuda wasn’t up to the task of carrying his leg of the mask and tired out quickly, even though he was able to dish out some real punishment before he tailed off in the second half of the match. The finish came when Hyobanshi caught Narato, who was working one of last dates for GCG with the Nova Bomb Redux. Winner: Makuda/Bennett/Hyobanshi in 22:31 when Hyobanshi used the Nova Bomb Redux on Narato. Jack Marlowe vs. Jimmy Cox The conflicts with the six-man tag necessitated elevating this match to the main event, and boy, did it deserve it. These two gentlemen put on an excellent match, showing why they’re only a hair below Hyobanshi and Gakusha. They exchanged hard blows for the whole match, not holding anything back. Cox had Marlowe in imminent danger many times throughout the match, but it was Marlowe who left with the upper hand, as he planted Cox with the Jungle Jack-Hammer for the win to end an impressive show. Winner: Marlowe in 27:09 with the Jungle Jack-Hammer. Overall Notes Other that telling me Rashid Lawal, Henry Bennett, and Sean Deeley were overused, Yoshifusa didn’t have many problems with the show we put on. Lawal and Bennett I understand, but I was a little taken aback at the comment about Deeley. He was in a fairly long match, but it was smack dab in the middle of the card, and he is a midcarder. Even so, it was definitely an awesome show, and we are on our way to Parade of Champions seemingly on a roll with regards to in-ring action. He had put on a great match with Pistol Pete a few weeks ago, so we should have known he wouldn’t have much of a problem. Rhino Umaga needed a win also, and Vessey is gaining experience right now, not ticks in the win column. Rhino put him away with his patented finisher in a nice solid dark match. Their luck was not quite as good this time, as they were quite easy pickings for the rough and tumble tactics of their veteran opponents. Tayama battered Grayson & Nakao around the ring and locked Grayson in the wheelbarrow. He swung Grayson around and brought him towards Ikina, who underhooked both arms and hit Grayson with the Super Ikina Driver for the win. Winner: Ikina/Tayama in 11:32 when Ikina used the Super Ikina Driver on Grayson. Sean Deeley vs. Henry Bennett (w/ Pistol Pete Hall) Bennett was extremely motivated to brutalize Deeley tonight, as Pistol Pete was ringside, seemingly taking notes concerning his younger charge. Bennett looked pretty good, even though he couldn’t quite get on the same wavelength with Deeley, who was going extremely amateur-style tonight. Bennett quickly had enough and executed a nice single leg takedown, then hooked in the Old No. 7, which made Deeley quickly tap. Winner: Bennett in 8:55 with the Old No. 7. Cameron Vessey/Aaron Andrews vs. Dark Angel/Barry Griffin It’s a shame that Dark Angel has been reduced to midcard work lately, but he’s just not holding up well physically, and we don’t want to risk a program falling apart because he gets injured. Even so, this seems like a waste of his talents. Angel and Griffin were out to teach these two youngsters a thing or two about wrestling, and did a decent job of it. Vessey was a little tired by the end, which was understandable seeing as though it was his second match of the evening. In taking his beating gracefully, Andrews showed something special – a glimmer of why TCW is so high on his future. Winner: Angel/Griffin in 15:37 when Angel used the Descent Into Hell on Andrews. Shingen Miyazaki vs. Mamoru Nagahama In what was to be his last match before he resigned last week, Mamoru Nagahama, who is slowly putting his career back together after injury troubles, is taking on Shingen Miyazaki, who is looking to elevate himself above the other Young Lions and show himself to be worthy of a push during the next tour. Nagahama did his best to injure Miyazaki with a barrage of stiff suplexes and clubbing forearms. However, Miyazaki chose this time to show that he has the fortitude to withstand such assaults and the skill to triumph over them. As Nagahama tired of beating on him, Miyazaki seized the opportunity to unleash his new finisher. He suplexed Nagahama onto the top rope, got a front facelock on him, then leapt forward with a Ace Crusher, which he calls the Stone Cutter. Winner: Miyazaki in 19:13 with the Stone Cutter. Pistol Pete Hall vs. Julian Watson As a tuneup for his match along with Henry Bennett versus Coleman and Ferdinand at Parade of Champions, Pistol Pete took on Julian Watson, who is just starting to put together a history of good matches in GCG. This match would be added to that list, as Pistol Pete led him to probably the best match of his career thus far. Pistol Pete looked awesome, if a bit winded, through the whole match, leading Watson through the paces and giving him enough offense to look strong. The two of them have some great chemistry in the ring, and it definitely didn’t hurt things. The only thing that slightly distracted attention away from the match was Hidetada Kozu not really doing a good of a job as he could putting over the match. Pistol Pete did get the win, of course with his Pistol Whip Lariat. Winner: Hall in 19:11 with a Pistol Whip Lariat. Naonobu Murkami vs. Jack Marlowe This match was quite literally short and sweet. Marlowe and Murkami deftly used the little bit of time they had to tell a story of Murkami starting out strong, and Marlowe making a comeback, weaving some interesting spots in between. Marlowe did get the win with his Jungle Jack-Hammer in a great little match. Winner: Marlowe in 5:32 with the Jungle Jack-Hammer. Eagle Kawasawa/Hiroyasu Gakusha vs. Takayuki 2000/Toshiharu Hyobanshi This match, which was a combination of the two title matches that will take place at Parade of Champions, was way better than anyone could have hoped. There was some concern that Kawasawa would not mesh with the heavyweights, but he did, with flying colors. He toned down his flying a little bit and therefore fit into the match quite nicely. Gakusha and Kawasawa controlled most of the match, isolating Takayuki and beating on him at every opportunity. Hyobanshi was literally hopping up and down on the canvas, waiting to get in. Takayuki finally broke free of the double team and dove towards the corner for the tag. Hyobanshi quickly threw Gakusha out of the ring and concentrated his efforts on Kawasawa. He battered him into the corner, nailed him with a trademark Hyobanshi Face Plant, and then took him up and nearly through the canvas with a Nova Bomb Redux for the win. Winner: Hyobanshi/Takayuki in 24:37 when Hyobanshi used the Nova Bomb Redux on Kawasawa. Overall Notes This was an extremely solid show from beginning to end. The worst grade on the whole show, including the dark match, was a C-, which is definitely nothing to sneeze at. The match built quite nicely, going from the first matches to the main event smoothly and building along the way. Maeda did tell me that Cameron Vessey was used too much, which is understandable, and that Aaron Andrews was used too much, which is also understandable. The build to Parade of Champions at the end of the week continues! OVERALL

He tried during this match, and Kozu and Furusawa did their best to put him over. He ended up on the winning end after breaking down Nakao and taking him off of his feet, then hooking in the Old No. 7. Winner: Bennett in 14:50 with an Old No. 7. Non-Title Match Nigerian Hit Squad vs. Stuart Ferdinand/Nathan Coleman © This match had two purposes – give the Hit Squad some valuable experience and give Coleman and Ferdinand a tune-up before their match with Pistol Pete and Henry Bennett on Wednesday. Coleman and Ferdinand looked OK in leading the Hit Squad to a decent match. They two veterans systematically destroyed the Hit Squad, working extensively on both their necks and shoulders. They finally ended it when Rahabad fell victim to the Pioneer Twist II. Winner: Ferdinand/Coleman in 8:45 when Coleman used the Pioneer Twist II on Rahabad. Takayuki 2000 vs. Naonobu Murkami This match was an attempt to give Takayuki a tune-up before his match with Eagle Kawasawa for the Openweight Title on Wednesday and there’s no better wrestler in GCG to do that with than Naonobu Murkami. Murkami and Takayuki put in a valiant effort, but there was definitely something missing from this match. It didn’t have the spark that hopefully the Takayuki-Eagle match has at Parade of Champions. Takayuki got Murkami in the Persian Deathlock and would not let go, which forced Murkami to eventually give up, especially seeing as though he was starting to lose steam fast as the match wore on. Winner: Takayuki in 15:33 with the Persian Deathlock. Jack Marlowe vs. Rhino Umaga Speaking of people who haven’t quite gotten a break on this tour, Jack Marlowe and Rhino Umaga fall into that category. Umaga was seriously hurt by Samoan Machine’s defection, as he lost pretty much all direction. Marlowe, on the other hand, has been hurt by the glut of great wrestlers at the top of the card. If Angel, Hyobanshi, Gakusha, or Pistol Pete go down with an injury any time in the future, Marlowe is definitely the next in line. Marlowe and Umaga had a very good match, definitely Umaga’s best showing, and lifted the crowd at the Iwata Hall. Marlowe was the better man in the match and probably the better man overall, and took the fall with his finisher. Kawasawa looked really comfortable out there, the best we’ve seen him in quite some time from him. He has been kind of coasting since he won the Openweight Title, and it was nice to see him in the ring with someone who can bring out the best in him, and Narato can do that. If this match was built up more, it could definitely be a main event in GCG some day, and probably could be in WLW today. Kawasawa did get the win with his Vision Quest, and looks to be on a mini-roll going into Friday. Winner: Kawasawa in 20:35 with the Vision Quest. Yasuhide Tayama vs. Toshiharu Hyobanshi This match was yet another tune-up, dry run, whatever you want to call it, for Wednesday. Hyobanshi is on his way to his second shot at the World Heavyweight Title, and looked great in his. He and Tayama seemed to mesh well. They both don’t spare anything when they step into the ring and the match was fairly stiff as a result. The main difference between the two men is that Tayama doesn’t have the cardiovascular conditioning quite yet to hang with Hyobanshi, and Hyobanshi therefore outlasted Tayama and powered him up, then down, with the Nova Bomb Redux. Winner: Hyobanshi in 15:31 with the Nova Bomb Redux. Non-Title Match Shotaro Ikina vs. Hiroyasu Gakusha © Our main event tune-up, of course, featured our World Heavyweight Champ, Gakusha, against Shotaro Ikina. The match lasted over 10 minutes, so of course Ikina was gassed by the end of it. Seeing as though it was 18 minutes, he was practically comatose by the end. However, Gakusha had all the energy he needed to throw Ikina all around the ring for the intervening 8 minutes of Ikina’s in-ring coma and mercifully put him away and end the show with the Gakusha Golden Bomb. Winner: Gakusha in 18:01 with the Gakusha Golden Bomb. Overall Notes We had high hopes for this show, as it was packed with the people who are going to headline Parade of Champions. However, when one of the highest rating matches is your dark match, there’s some sort of issue. Deeley-Makuda was an unexpected hit, as was Marlowe-Umaga. However, we thought Kawasawa-Narato would have popped a bigger rating, along with Hyobanshi-Tayama and Ikina-Gakusha. Even so, we’re on a better footing in Tohoku now, so that is great.
This is a great diary and you ain't gettin enough love for it. Good, concise writeups and I gotta agree with ol' Monkeypox that there ain't another diary on the boards right now that's as easy on the eyes as this one.
Thank you very much. I had some concerns that a diary with little actual storyline development outside of my writeups would have difficulty drawing attention. Parade of Champions will be up sometime tomorrow, then I'll have a Watcher Journal-style writeup of the month between the Waking The Ghosts Tour and the next tour, which will be entitled Spirit of Victory. The first card has a surprise from PGHW-land. Nothing super-huge, but hopefully those of you who follow PGHW will like it.

Some of the diaries are totally storyline driven and that works, but I like that we've got something that just focuses on the matches. As someone who writes a storyline diary for DaVE, it relies on the reader actually keeping track of the plotlines from post to post - I don't know how many people actually do that. So there's really something to be said that can be enjoyed post-to-post without having to struggle withcontinuity.

Parade Of Champions GCG Parade of Champions from Kyoto Arena in Kinki in front of 1,600 people Announcers: Hidetada Kozu & Hanshiro Furusawa Before the show even started, we knew we would have a problem. Both INSPIRE and NOTBPW had shows the same day as us, so we didn’t have access to Dark Angel, Jack Marlowe, Stuart Ferdinand, Julian Watson, or Shingen Miyazaki. Angel and Marlowe picked NOTBPW over us (Jack is still fulfilling his dates for the talent trade), and Watson and Miyazaki chose INSPIRE over us. We had 1,600 people in attendance, but I still understand their decisions. Nevertheless, the show must go on. Rhino Umaga would replace Jack Marlowe against Stevie Grayson, Dark Angel and Barry Griffin would be replaced by Shotaro Ikina & Yasuhide Tayama against the Nigerian Hit Squad; and most importantly, Naonobu Murkami would replace Stuart Ferdinand against Pistol Pete Hall and Henry Bennett. I can’t deprive the fans by taking Pistol Pete off of the card, but I can’t very well allow Murkami to defend the Tag Title for Ferdinand. I’m unsure whether Ferdinand & Coleman will remain the champs, or whether I will strip them and commence a tag team tournament at the start of the next tour. Decisions, decisions… PRE-SHOW Quick Kick Nakao vs. Barry Griffin Seeing as though his intended partner Dark Angel declined to show up for the event, Barry Griffin got himself busted down to the preshow, taking on Quick Kick. Quick Kick did step up to the plate and show some more technical skill this match, but Griffin got the win with his Union Jack cross-legged fisherman buster. Nagahama looked great this match, really taking it to Andrews with an intensity we haven’t seen since he returned to the Japanese wrestling scene from the obscurity of independent shows. Along with his trademark suplexes, Nagahama utilized some simple punching and kicking to batter Andrews around the ring. Their last match was against the team that will probably next challenge for the World Heavyweight Tag Titles, Ikina and Tayama. Ikina and Tayama dominated this match, showing their skill and desire to be in the title match the next time around. Rahabad and Rashid did not have much luck this match at all, as they were perpetually on their toes against the extremely motivated veteran tag team. Kozu and Furusawa did an excellent job putting Ikina and Tayama over as a real threat to whomever the Tag Champs are coming out of the show tonight. Unfortunately, that match may have been more Deeley than Makuda, as this one was not nearly as good. Both wrestlers were extremely tired by the end, but Koza and Furusawa managed to spin it into the fact that they both were giving their last drop of energy to emerge victorious. Kawasawa and Takayuki undoubtedly have pretty good chemistry, so this will not be their last meeting. However, there still was a certain quality missing from this match, a small lack of fluidity. It’s almost like Kawasawa has to wrestle a half a step slower to mesh up well with Takayuki. Still, the artistry in this match was very good. Kawasawa spent most of the match using his quick-hitting to keep Takayuki off guard and to keep him away from his legs, as Takayuki kept trying for double leg pickups and the like to soften Kawasawa up for the Persian Deathlock. In the end, it was Takayuki who was more successful, as Kawasawa went for the Vision Quest, but in one amazing motion, Takayuki ducked under it, leg sweeped Eagle onto his back, flipped him over onto his stomach, and locked in the Persian Deathlock. Kawasawa had no choice but to tap, and Takayuki regained the Openweight Title! The fortunes for Coleman and Murkami were also not helped much by Coleman’s strained neck, which he suffered last night in the match versus the Nigerian Hit Squad. He protected it the whole match by tagging out whenever Pistol Pete got in the ring. As the match wore on, this was harder and harder to do, and he finally fell victim to the Pistol Whip Lariat. Luckily for all in attendance at the Kyoto Arena, it was. Hyobanshi looked absolutely amazing tonight, seemingly tasting the title. Hyobanshi and Gakusha have pretty good chemistry, so the match was pretty much fluid throughout, except for the middle, which dragged on a bit. They did a good job of drawing the crowd back in towards the end though, with a few false finishes thrown in to heighten the anticipation of what was to come. In the end, Hyobanshi would not be denied, and he powered Gakusha up for the Nova Bomb Redux to win the World Heavyweight Title! After the match, Hyobanshi clutched the belt for a good minute, just staring at it, then climbed the turnbuckle with the belt, as Gakusha sat slumped in the corner, completely exhausted. Winner: Hyobanshi in 57:31 to win the World Heavyweight Title. Overall Notes Well, this show brings to a close the Waking The Ghosts Tour, and so ends the GCG tenures of Rahabad Lawal, Rashid Lawal, and Stevie Grayson. Also, Aaron Andrews wrestled his last match tonight and is headed back to America and TCW. We very well might see him again in the future, if he doesn’t get to big for a short international tour. We didn’t overuse anyone tonight, at least according to Maeda, which is a good sign. It didn’t hurt that our main event was nearly an hour long, and was an emotional tour-de-force for both Gakusha and Hyobanshi. This is Hyobanshi’s first World Heavyweight Title reign, so it means a lot to him. Also, Hiroyasu Gakusha was an excellent champion, and there’s no reason he won’t at some time in the future regain the belt. After the show, we go dormant for a month and try to hash out a definitive way to stop hemorrhaging money, which unfortunately means that some GCG stars might not make it to the next tour. Newswire for Week 1, March 2007 Monday, Week 1, March 2007

Stevie Grayson, Rahabad Lawal, and Rashid Lawal leave GCG. They were only in on touring deals, and will now be looking for other bookings in Japan and possibly back in America for Grayson.
Bulldozer Brandon Smith enters the wrestling world. We’ll have to take a long look at him, as he’s exactly the kind of wrestler that would develop and thrive in GCG.
DAVE’s Danger Zone TV has had run has ended, as their contract ran out and their TV partner didn’t renew it.
Dick The Devastator was released by GCG. We didn’t have anything for him to do, so I couldn’t justify paying him 3,000 a month to sit on his butt and watch the show. Maeda is doing our road agenting, and we don’t need an authority figure, so there’s no reason for him to stay employed. The 50,000+ we had to pay him in severance pay hurt, but now at least he’s off the books.
It was a busy night for in-ring action, as TCW, NOTBPW, and 21CW each ran their secondary shows; DAVE and INSPIRE each had a supershow/PPV; MAW ran their monthly show; and there was a British independent show. There were some GCG wrestlers and alumni in action – Sean Deeley had his first show at a title in NOTBPW, unsuccessfully challenging Harrison Hash for the Unlimited Action Title; at the INSPIRE show, Shingen Miyazaki lost to Roku Sotomura and Stuart Ferdinand lost to Li Bingci; and at the DAVE show, Nathan Coleman once again teamed with Travis Century as the Perfect Criminals, losing to the New Jersey Devils in a bid for the DAVE Tag Titles.
Tuesday, Week 1, March 2007

WLW's head ref, Kitahachi Sonoda, extended his deal.
The Tuesday Night Wars had their next installment, as TCW and SWF both put on decidedly average shows. SWF had a slightly better show, but they were both differing shades of bleh.
Burning Hammer ran their first show of the Betrayed Tour. It was a B- show, highlighted by an excellent Marihito Masuko-Awesome Kiyaru match and a Hiroaki Nakasawa-Hooded Kudo match that both garnered a B.
AAA ran their March Show, Girl on Girl Action, which was a decent show overall. The best match was Wanda Fish retaining the Femme Fatale Title against Joanne Rodriguez, which shouldn't be that much of a surprise.
Wednesday, Week 1, March 2007

After a string of average shows, TCW has dropped to cult size. The only wrestler to get a pink slip was American Elemental, who only got to wrestle three matches with TCW before getting canned. Oddly enough, one of those was against Pistol Pete Hall.
USPW seems to be in some danger of falling also. American Wrestling is getting horrendous ratings, and has been getting warnings saying as much. As a preemptive move, they've cut loose Eric The Bull. No big loss, as the only wrestler on the USPW roster he seemed to be able to beat was Cheetah Boy.
There were four shows on the day - INSPIRE, NOTBPW, USPW, and 21CW. At the INSPIRE show, Tornado Nagai beat Julian Watson; Billy Russell and Shingen Miyazaki went to a double count out; and Marat Kholkov retained the King of Fighters Title again against Li Bingci. At the NOTBPW show, Dark Angel won the Unlimited Action Title from Harrison Hash. He's a two-time Canadian champ, so he very well might be in for a de-push in Canada also. In USPW, Bruce The Giant turned away Demon Spite's World Title challenge. Lastly, in 21CW, Adam Matravers beat Rolling Johnny Stones in the main event and best match on the card.
Thursday, Week 1, March 2007

Jack Bruce renewed his deal with SWF. He beat Sam Keith at When Hell Freezes Over in January, then didn't wrestle again until Nothing To Lose, where he beat Calimari Kid. He finished out February by wrestling to two consecutive no-contests, with Angry Gilmore and Enygma. Hopefully he'll make his way onto more cards now, as SWF is in danger of falling to cult level also, and he can do nothing but help.
There were three shows tonight, SWF's Full Throttle, the next stop on Burning Hammer's Betrayed Tour, and PGHW's first show on the Retaliation Tour. PGHW used this show to run their annual Elite Series tournament, which was won by Mito Miwa, who beat Bryan Vessey in the finals.
Friday, Week 1, March 2007

Gearing up for the next month of tours, WLW signed CZCW wrestlers Fox Mask and Black Eagle. Not wanting to miss out, 5SSW inked Emma Bitch, Principessa, and Karen Bilious. Lastly, we at GCG have come to terms with Bulldozer Brandon Smith and Utamuro Nishimuraya to appear on our next tour. Smith, as mentioned before, should fit in beautifully, and Nishimuraya will lend some experience to the locker room while still being able to compete competitively.
There were three shows today - SOTBPW's regular Lucha Libre show, UCR's weekly International Wrestling Superstars, and WEXXV's next installment of the Time Crisis tour. The SOTBPW show was headlined by the team of Champagne Lover & El Demonico taking down Torque & Blood Raven, who also works with WLW as Ketsueki Karasu. The UCR show was led by Byron turning away Louis Figo Manico's latest challenge for the World Combat. Lastly, the WEXXV show featured Kajahara-Omura Part 8,000,003.
Saturday, Week 1, March 2007

There were some resignings all over the world today - Don Henderson with ROF; Big Cat Brandon with DAVE; and El Demonico with SOTBPW. Also, Stevie Grayson, who toured with us in GCG for the last two months, will be staying in Japan, this time wrestling on WLW's upcoming tour.
There was only one show today, but it was a great PGHW show. The second stop on the Retalitation Tour thrilled the crowd at Asahikawa Stadium with a rematch of the Elite Series final from Thursday, Mito Miwa vs. Bryan Vessey, which Miwa came out of victorious again. Another excellent match was the main event, which saw Yoshimi Mushashibo successfully defend the Glory Crown Title against Eisaku Kunomasu. On the undercard, the Historical Japan Title did change hands, as Danger Kumasaka defeated Bryan Holmes. Kumasaka is no spring chicken, so maybe this is a sign that he may be hanging up his boots shortly.
Sunday, Week 1, March 2007

Only one note of contract news today - the extremely busy Farrah Hesketh reupped once again with CGC to stay on as their color commentator.
There were two shows around the world on Sunday - CGC's normal Title Bout Wrestling and an American independent show. CGC's show was highlighted by Youth Energy retaining their World Tag Titles from The Natural & John Maverick's challenge and by Eddie Chandler actually defeating a DeColt, this time Jack. The American independent show, held at the "cozy" Club X, had such stellar matches as Fumihiro Ota & Paul Steadyfast beating The Big Problem & The Idaho Punisher (Big Idaho?), Madman Boone & Rod Remus taking down Sgt. Buddy Lee West & Primal Rage, and the epic main event of Dermot O'Logical defeating Ace Youngblood. Also, it saw Bull Wrecker, nee Eric The Bull of USPW, in his first action since getting canned, teaming up with Tully Arthurs to lose to Lazy Joe & C.H. Threepwood. Hey, if USPW catches wind of that show, they should resign him and sign Tully. They'd fit right in in the tag division.
Newswire for Week 2, March 2007 Monday

Today was a busy day, as there were six shows today. NOTBPW's Spotlight featured Jeremy Stone beating Edd Stone and Sean McFly successfully defending the Canadian Title against R.K. Hayes. TCW's B-show, Showdown, saw Tommy Cornell beat Joey Bryant and BLZ Bubb beat Wolf Hawkins. Another B-show across the pond, 21CW's Retribution, was headlined by Joss Thompson defending his World Title against Rolling Johnny Stones and Daniel Black Francis beating back DJ Reason's challenge for the United Kingdom Title. In a busy night in the British Isles, MOSC also held a show, entitled Breaking Down, which featured The Highland Warrior defending the UK Championship against Geordie Jimmy Morris, the former owner of ROF. NYCW's Aggravated Assault was also tonight, which saw Whistler capture the Empire Title from Grandmaster Phunk, who will now only be working for USPW. Also, Jungle Jack lost to Black Hat Bailey in the best wrestling match of the night. One last show was the second ever JEF show, Wanted Dead or Alive. The main event was the debuting Puffy the Sand Iron Player failing in taking the Global Title off of Toby Juan Kanobi.
Tuesday

The Tuesday Night Wars heated up yet again tonight. SWF was at the Shakeshaft Auditorium for Supreme TV, which was headlined by Remo beating Eric Eisen and Jack Bruce taking down Christian Faith in the main event. TCW's Total Wrestling aired from President's Hall in lovely Puerto Rico and featured an excessively average Liberty-Ricky Dale Johnson match as its main event.
In other action worldwide, 21CW was active for a second night in a row, holding their Final Appeal show at Parliament Square. Adam Matravers and Joss Thompson were yet again the class of the show - Matravers defeated Leo Price, and Thompson made another defense of his World Title against Rolling Johnny Stones. Last but not least, there was another stop on Burning Hammer's Betrayed Tour, this time from Nagoya Sports Stadium in Chubu. The best match hands down was Eisaku Hoshino beating Eiji Hamacho in the main event. Other great matches were Sensational Dragon-Miyamae and Optimus-Hell Monkey.
Wednesday

Takayuki Kajiwara has become a very busy man. He is now handling the color commentating for 5SSW, in addition to the same duties for WEXXV and WLW.
Poppa Punisher has re-upped with UCR. He's being doing OK so far this year, but he hasn't gotten on one single International Wrestling Superstars yet, only losing to White Knight at January's Powerslave and defeating Jed High at last month's Take No Prisoners.
NOTBPW held their flagship Championship Wrestling Show from Saskatoon Bowl. In an amazing match (surprise, surprise), Jeremy Stone beat Duane Stone in the main event in an early match of the year candidate. Another excellent match was Sean McFly beating Dean McWade in a non-title match that actually graded out to a B+. One last match of note was Edd Stone and Johnny Bloodstone defending their Tag Team Titles against the Can-Am Blondes.
21CW was active for the third day in a row with their flagship, Best of British Wrestling, emanating from The Cobra Den. Adam Matravers and Joss Thompson both got the night off, so the main event was Stevie Stoat and Leo Price beating the Ivanoff Brothers. The best match was another United Kingdom Title defense for Daniel Black Francis, once again against DJ Reason.
USPW was plenty busy tonight, holding both American Wrestling and Liberty and Justice from the West Texas Coliseum. American Wrestling was another disappointing show, only getting a D+ overall. The main event was Bruce The Giant beating T-Rex in a non-title match. The second best match was probably the six-man tag which saw Demon Spite, Henry Lee, and Hell's Bouncer beat Peter Valentine and the Lords of War. Hell's Bouncer debuted for USPW last month, beating Captain USA in his first outing, but losing to Bruce The Giant in a non-title match a few weeks later. Liberty and Justice was a slightly better show, rating out at at a C-. It saw Warlord Pain beat Giant Redwood for the National Title, his first singles title reign in his career. In the main event, Bruce The Giant successfully defended the World Title against the debuting Grandmaster Phunk.
One last show on the night - another INSPIRE show on the Raw Power Tour, this time from Akita Stadium in Tohoku. Mike Watson and Tasuku Iesada's double count-out was the best match of the night, as Kholkov's defense of the King of Fighters Title against Li Bingci was average at best. It seems Kholkov can only deliver great matches against Kikkawa. Shocking... In other news, Shingen Miyazaki was on the card also, going to a double count-out with Masaaki Okazaki.
Thursday

SWF were the ones double dipping tonight, as they ran both their B-show, Full Throttle, and Awesome Impact from the Theater of Dreams. Full Throttle was a decidedly average show - the main event was Enygma defeating Runaway Train in a non-title match. The best matches were Frederique Antonio Garcia beating Zimmy Bumfhole and Rich Money defending the North American Title against Elmo Benson. Awesome Impact was a much more solid show, with more than a few above average matches. The main piece of business to come out of this show was Calamari Kid taking the North American Title off of Rich Money. The good matches were Eric Eisen/Sam Keith - Amazing Bumfholes, High Concept/Skull DeBones - Lead Belly/Knuckles/Enforcer Roberts, Angry Gilmore - Kurt Laramee, Runaway Train defending the World Title against Christian Faith, and Steve Frehley/Jack Bruce - Warriors of the Deep.
Thursday was another busy day in Japan as PGHW and Burning Hammer both had shows. PGHW had the Retaliation Tour from Izumo Civil Stadium in Chukogu. The main event and best match was Mushashibo vs. Miwa for the Glory Crown Title, which Mushashibo won to retain. Other top-notch matches were Nobuatso Tatsuko vs. Buddy Garner and PRIDE Koiso vs. Akinori Kwakami. Burning Hammer's Betrayed Tour continued from Fukushima Stadium in Tohoku. The best matches were Hooded Kudo vs. Elemental II, and another Masuko-Kiyaru match for the Burning Junior Championship. Also, former GCG wrestler Samoan Machine has started challenging Nissho Yuasa for the Openweight Championship. His former partner Rhino Umaga was also on the show, losing to Yoshii Shiomi in the opener.
ROF had their monthly show, this one entitled Found Guilty, from the Caledonian Club in front of a stellar 85 people. The wrestling was good though, as the show got a C- overall. There were three matches that got that grade also - British Samurai beating JEF owner Razor Valentine to defend the #1 Contender Title, UK Dragon beating Johnny Highspot, and Ali Bloxsome defending the ROF Championship against GCG's own Barry Griffin. He's still got one more appearance for them to fulfill the deal we made to get Merle O'Curle for three shows on the Waking The Ghosts tour.
Friday

SOTBPW was in action, running their weekly Lucha Libre show from Palacio de Lucha. The best match hands down was Pablo Rodriguez's defense of the Campeonato de Mundo against Torque.
UCR was also busy with their weekly show, International Wrestling Superstars, from Plaza La Navarre. The best match was the main event, in which World Combat Champion Byron beat Sergei Kalashnov in a non-title match.
PGHW ran one of their supershows, Night of PRIDE, from Ishikawa Stadium in Chubu. They sold it out, all 15,000 seats, and put on a great B+ show. The matches receiving the same grade were Buddy Garner beating Eisaku Kunomasu and Mushashibo yet again defending the Glory Crown Title, this time against Shuji Inukai. The show also saw a special appearance by Larry Vessey, who teamed with his brother to defeat Dread and Bryan Holmes.
One more installment for WEXXV's Time Crisis tour, this time from the Hall of Nagahama, one more Kajahara over Omura match in the main event. In the opener, the American Psychos did beat The Pack for the Blood Brothers Titles.
Saturday

There were three different contract extension today - Chica de Partido with MPWF, Eddie Peak with DAVE (good for him), and Eisaku Hoshino signing another short term deal with Burning Hammer.
PGHW was in action for the third night in a row, continuing the Retaliation Tour at Fukushima Stadium. Matches of note were Mushashibo defending against Kunomasu, Inukai defeating Tatsuko, Garner beating Ino, and Kawashima & Koiso defending the Glory Tag Crown Titles against Team Toronto. Robinson & Bennett would look really good in a GCG ring...
NOTBPW ran the annual Ed Henson Memorial Tag Team Cup from St. Crispin's Ballpark. The first round saw The McWade Brothers beat Dark Angel & Mammoth, The Stone Siblings (Jeremy & Dan Jr.) beat Harrison Hash & Tim Westybrook, The Flying Stones (Edd & Duane) beat The Can-Am Blondes, and Sean McFly & Johnny Bloodstone beat Whippy The Clown and Shooter Sean Deeley. The semis saw The Stone Siblings beat The McWades and The Flying Stones beat McFly & Bloodstone. In the finals, the Stone Siblings beat the Flying Stones to capture their third Ed Henson Memorial Tag Cup.
Sunday

DAVE made another excellent move today, locking up Chris Caulfield to an extension. Re-upping Peak and Caufield on two consecutive days can only bode well for DAVE's future and hopefully will help them through this trying time, as they are now working with no TV show and only have their PPV's for the time being.
TCW resigned head ref Ray Johnson.
CGC put on another edition of Title Bout Wrestling from Varsity Arena. John Maverick used this show to take the Canadian Title off of Ed Monton, who had been the champ ever since he beat Shooter Sean Deeley on his way out the door.
SAISHO ran their monthly show, this one being Heroes Will March On, from Matsumoto Hall. It was an eventful show as Hirokazu Yamanoue beat Gonnohyoe Kada for the Destiny Title. He's already the third champion this year, as Strong Style Yoemon vacated the title when he got called up to PGHW's main roster.
Waking The Ghosts Tour Awards Just to give you guys a chance to go back and read all of the cards critically and analyze what I've been doing so far, I've decided to do a sort of awards show. I will have the categories listed below and any other categories (within reason :) ) that you all can think of. You guys can nominate anyone who fits the criteria. If I don't get any nominations, I'll just do it myself. It's no big deal if no one sends any nominations in, but like all diary writers, I crave feedback, whether it be positive or negative. Here are the categories:

Tour MVP (anyone is eligible)
Best Midcarder
Best Tag Team
Best Gaijin (foreign worker)
Best Guest Appearance
Best Show
Best Match
Like I said, you don't have to limit yourselves to these categories. Bring it on, guys, bring it on.

Newswire for Week 3, March 2007 Monday

More B-show madness, as TCW Showdown, NOTBPW Spotlight, and 21CW Retribution were all today. TCW was at Laurent Ballroom for an OK show that was headlined by Tommy Cornell vs. Texas Pete for the World Title. NOTBPW was at Abbotsford Recreation Centre for a really good B- show. It was headlined by R.K. Hayes beating Sean McFly in a non-title match, so McFly is still the Canadian champ. Other class matches of the night were Dan Stone Jr. over Dark Angel in another non-title match (Angel is the Unlimited Action champ) and Edd Stone & Johnny Bloodstone over the Can-Am Blondes to yet again retain their Tag Team titles. 21CW's show from Aston University Sports Hall saw DJ Reason finally take the United Kingdom title off of Daniel Black Francis after two tries. The main event and best match was Rolling Johnny Stones defeating Adam Matravers.
There was plenty of other action around the world tonight - BSC, WEXXV, Hinote Dojo, and SOTBPW were all in action. BSC didn't have much of note go on, as no belts changed hands at their Unscripted show. WEXXV had the oddly named Cave of Hair. Status quo for them also, as there was another Kajahara vs. Omura match in the main event and Burning EXILE classing up the midcard. Hinote Dojo's Army March show was not really all that newsworthy, and garnered a D rating. SOTBPW's Guerra Global from Guadalajara Arena was the best show put on today by any promotion not named NOTBPW, as it also got a B-. Pablo Rodriguez beating Champagne Lover to retain the Campeonato de Mundo was a great B, and Axxis Jr. over El Demonico wasn't too shabby either.
One contract note on the day - the traitor Kurt Laramee has reupped with SWF.
Tuesday

Another Tuesday night, another installment of the War. SWF sold out the Gorski Ballroom for Supreme TV and put on a decent show headlined by Steve Frehley going over Skull DeBones. The best match was Christian Faith defeating Jack Bruce in the semi-main event. TCW's Total Wrestling sold out Shakeshaft Auditorium (where SWF was just last week) and put on about the same quality of show as SWF. Tommy Cornell once again beat Texas Pete in the main event to retain the World Title. Other decent matches were Rocky Golden's International Title defense against Wolf Hawkins and Genghis Rahn beating Aaron Andrews.
There were two Japanese shows today. Burning Hammer put on another show on the Betrayed Tour, this time from Fukuoka Athletics Stadium, which featured another outstanding Masuko vs. Kiyaru match, Hell Monkey going over GCG mainstay Nathan Coleman, and a six-man of Yasuhiko Taira, Hooded Kudo, & Yasunobu Masuno beating Hiroaki Nakasawa, Eisaku Hoshino, & Kinnojo Horri. In addition, there was an independent show, which was without a doubt headlined by the tag team of Hidekazu & Washichi Inao, who even in losing to Sotatsu Sarumara & Toshinobu Taku, looked great.
Wednesday

The big contract news for the day is that Demon Anger is gone from USPW after rejecting their last contract offer, leaving just Demon Spite in action. Also, Ryan Powell has resigned with CGC, as has Chance Fortune with TCW.
NOTBPW, USPW, and 21CW had their flagship shows today. Championship Wrestling had Sean McFly beat Dean McWade in the main event, and also featured a rare wrestling appearance by Victoria Stone, going to a time limit draw with Jana Marie Bowen. American Wrestling "featured" Warlord Pain retaining the National Title against Danny Rushmore and Grandmaster Phunk beating American Machine in a brawl between NYCW alumni. Best of British Wrestling was headlined by Damage Inc. (Daniel Black Francis & Rolling Johnny Stones) defeating Joss Thompson & Adam Matravers in the main event, and DJ Reason making his first defense of the United Kingdom title, against Leo Price.
INSPIRE had Japan all to itself today, with its next Raw Power Tour show. There were no GCG wrestlers on the show tonight, and not surprisingly, the best match was Tasuku Iesada vs. Tadiyuki Kikkawa. The shocking thing is that Kikkawa actually lost.
Thursday

It turns out last night's underwhelming effort will be last American Wrestling for the foreseeable future, as Sports America has canceled the show due to its sub par ratings.
Barry Griffin has ended his dealings with ROF. He still had one appearance left on his talent trade deal, but the time had run out on the three month deal. In other contract news, Chaos Demon #2 has renewed his contract with WEXXV.
The American wrestling scene had three shows tonight. SWF ran their B-show, Full Throttle, from a sold-out Irvine Hall. It was another average show, highlighted by the Steve Frehley vs. Enygma main event. SWF's developmental company, RIPW, was also in action, with Nowhere to Run, which saw the RIPW debut of Mario Heroic, who was signed to a developmental deal by SWF. He was unsuccessful in taking the RIPW Champinship from Mikey James. CZCW had a show also, entitled The End of The Line. The best match of the night was Shawn Gonzalez, the booker man, going over Plague.
In other wrestling news, MPWF ran the Movimiento Disidente show, which was headlined by Soul Taker beating Marcos Flores to retain the Cameponato de Herencia de Mundo. Also, in Japan, PGHW ran another stop on the Retaliation Tour. There was another MOTY candidate on this show, as Mushashibo beat Tatsuko to retain his Glory Crown Title. Also, in exchange for our guests at the first show on the Spirit of Victory Tour, Naonobu Murkami and Shotaro Ikina appeared, wrestling each other. Murkami was victorious, in a D+ match. Other great matches were Mito Miwa over Bryan Holmes and Shuji Inukai over Eisaku Kunomasu.
Friday

UCR did their double dipping tonight, as both IWS and their big show, Demonology, were from Lubuskie Arena. IWS featured Byron over White Knight and Louis Figo Manico & Captain Hero over the Dark Side. Demonology featured two decent matches - Poppa Punisher over Inky The Squid Boy and Byron over White Knight to retain the World Combat Title. Also, WEXXV had their next show on the Time Crisis tour, which actually a different main event, as King of the Death Match Champ Gareth Wayne challenge Ryu Kajahara for the Warrior's Heart Title. Saonji Omura was only the semi-main event, beating Hiroshi Morisue.
Burning Hammer had a super show tonight, Fire Dream of the Immortals. There were six matches that garnered at least a B-, and two B matches. The B's were another Masuko vs. Kiyaru match and Miyamae vs. Elemental II. The B-'s were Chuichi Sanda vs. Super Joshuya, Shimedzu vs. Kansuke Konda, Yasunobu Masuno & Hooded Kudo vs. Koshiro Ino & Tadakuni Toshusai, and Hiroaki Nakasawa over Eiji Hamacho to retain the Burning World Championship.
SOTBPW had the weekly Lucha Libre show, which featured Pablo Rodriguez going over Enrique Merino to retain the Campeonato de Mundo.
Saturday

Today will be known as Black Saturday for WEXXV, as Ryu Kajahara and Burning EXILE have cut loose four wrestlers - Chaos Demon #1, Kinji Akamatsu, Tatsukichi Shichirobei, and Battle Sakata have all been given pink slips. In positive contract news, Kathy Neptune has reupped with BSC.
There was one actual show tonight, PGHW's latest installment of the Retaliation Tour. This show featured another Mushashibo-Tatsuko masterpiece, along with great matches like Buddy Garner-Mito Miwa and PRIDE Koiso & Kozue Kawashima vs. Team Toronto.
Sunday

Nomad has renewed his deal with 4C.
CGC had the last Title Bout Wrestling from King Edward Multiplex. It was headlined by Jack DeColt over Eddie Chandler. It also featured John Maverick defeating Mick Muscles to retain the Canadian Title, Lee Rivera beating Fate, and Alex DeColt beating The Natural.
Kenko Takemitsu has locked himself into a longer term deal with BHOTWG. He has been feuding with Sessue Kawate the past few weeks, and a few weeks ago even teamed with Silver Shark in an unsuccessful attempt at the Burning Junior Tag Team Titles. Koshiro Ino is taking another step towards being a true freelancer by signing another short-term deal with PGHW. He has already appeared on four of their shows, losing to Buddy Garner twice, losing to Lee Bennett once, and beating Chuichi Sanda. Shimedzu has also resigned with Burning Hammer. He and Miyamae have been trying to get the Burning World Tag Titles off of Ino & Toshusai, but haven't been successful in their three tries as of yet. He's only had one match in singles action, beating Kansuke Konda at Fire Dream of the Immortals. In some early March news that's come in early, two retirements have been posted worldwide - Takesi Umehara, who was unemployed, and Peter Valentine, who was working for USPW. He didn't get much of a sendoff, as he lost his last match to Hell's Bouncer at the last ever American Wrestling. Also, there have been some style changes - Umeko Karube will now be working as a Super Junior; Washichi Inao as a Cruiserweight; and Cal Sanders as a Super Junior. Inao and Sanders are interesting cases, as Inao's new style will work better in America and Sanders seems to be looking towards Japan. Lastly, there was one new signing - Puerto Rican Power is now working for NYCW in addition to USPW.

Spirit of Victory Tour Kickoff Show Monday, Week 1, April 2007 GCG Spirit of Victory Tour from Kumamoto Athletics Center in Kyushu in front of 847 people Announcers: Hidetada Kozu & Hanshiro Furusawa Before we even started the show, I knew we were going to have problems. Because of Pistol Pete Hall and Nathan Coleman not being able to make it (Pistol Pete was at the TCW show and Coleman was at the DAVE PPV), we had to completely reshuffle our World Heavyweight Tag Team Match. Henry Bennett will now tag with Barry Griffin, whom he tagged with before Pistol Pete took him under his wing. Also, our surprise team from PGHW was going to appear, but we didn’t want to waste them on a non-title match, so they’ve been pushed back to a later date. Dark Angel chose to go to the NOTBPW Spotlight show, which is understandable, as he is the Unlimited Action Champ there. Our newest import from TCW wasn’t available either, as he obviously chose to go to Showdown. I really had hoped that our first show of the new tour would have gotten off to a better start, but apparently that wasn’t in the cards. PRE-SHOW Hiroyasu Gakusha vs. Jimmy Cox This match was a special attraction for the people who came to the show, but it wasn’t all it could have been. Cox and Gakusha don’t have any chemistry whatsoever in the ring, so they basically stumbled around each other for 16 minutes, putting on an extremely awkward match. Gakusha tried to impose his physical will on the veteran Cox, but Cox kept putting a stop to it by slowing down the pace and frustrating Gakusha’s intense attacks. In the end, the former World Heavyweight Champion was too much for Cox, and Gakusha got the win with the Gakusha Golden Bomb. Winner: Gakusha beat Cox in 17:10 with the Gakusha Golden Bomb. OFFICIAL SHOW Rhino Umaga/Utamuro Nishimuraya v. Henry Bennett/Barry Griffin v. Shotaro Ikina/Yasuhide Tayama Everyone knows the one about best laid plans, right? This match was an unmitigated trainwreck. Not one of our original teams scheduled made it to the actual match, and it showed in the shoddy way the match was constructed. Kozu tried his best to tell a story in this match of the rise of Ikina & Tayama, but even he couldn’t save it. The first team to be eliminated was Umaga & Nishimuraya. After they were gone, the match became the systematic destruction of Henry Bennett. Ikina & Tayama isolated him and wouldn’t let Griffin even sniff getting in the ring. He never had a chance to help Bennett and Henry finally succumbed to the Super Ikina Driver. Winners: Ikina/Tayama over Umaga/Nishimuraya and Bennett/Griffin in 11:43 when Ikina used the Ikina Driver on Nishimuraya. Kiminobu Kuroki vs. Julian Watson Talk about stumbling into a good thing. This was an admittedly thrown together match, just to see what would come out, and what did was something unexpectedly good. Kuroki and Watson click like no one’s business in the ring, and they carried the match to something much greater than I would have hoped for. Watson was definitely game, but Kuroki is still one of the best we have in GCG, and he took the match in the end. Winner: Kuroki in 7:59 with the Kuroki Krush. Eagle Kawasawa vs. Shingen Miyazaki Who would have thought that Kawasawa and Miyazaki could make it two matches in a row that have amazing chemistry? Miyazaki definitely showed everyone something in this match, a glimmer of greatness that was really refreshing to see. Kawasawa, for his part, made a claim that his short run with the Openweight Title was no fluke at all. Kawasawa, being the slightly more established superstar, took the win in this match, but it won’t be the last we hear of Miyazaki. Marlowe’s devil-may-care attitude showed through in this match, as he took it to T-2000 for the whole match, very nearly capturing the belt on two separate occasions. Luckily for T-2000, Marlowe’s aggressive style ended up being his downfall. After working on his knees early in the match, Marlowe wasn’t able to get T-2000 up for the Jungle Jack-Hammer, as his knee buckled under the strain of trying to lift T-2000. T-2000 sprung into action, renewing his assault on the lower half of Jack’s body. He wore him down enough to lock in the Persian Deathlock, and Jack didn’t have enough strength left to fight it, so he was forced to tap out. Winner: Takayuki 2000 in 13:50 with the Persian Deathlock. OVERALL SHOW RATING: OVERALL NOTES I didn’t have high hopes for this show, but it was better than it had any hope of being – not in small part due to the chemistry shown between Kawasawa & Miyazaki and Watson & Kuroki. We cut the show down to an hour and ran a smaller arena to cut down on the costs. We started March with only 40,000 in the bank, and we need to turn things around stat. We can’t continue hemorrhaging money, but I don’t want to cut anyone off of the roster until it’s absolutely necessary, but it may be by next month. We’ll just have to wait and see how this new financial plan works out. Wednesday’s show should be interesting, as we will have the first title defense of the World Heavyweight Title by Toshiharu Hyobanshi against Jimmy Cox. In addition, I thought that, as a favor to Ikina & Tayama for stepping up and salvaging something out of the elimination tag match, they would get a tune-up match on Wednesday for their tag title shot on next Monday. Two other matches are signed as of now – Kiminobu Kuroki vs. Mamoru Nagahama and Naonobu Murkami vs. Dark Angel. The only problem is that Dark Angel is working back in Canada on Wednesday, so check back in to find out who we substituted in for ol' Cliffy... Match List For Predictions Naonobu Murkami vs. ? Kiminobu Kuroki vs. Mamoru Nagahama Shotaro Ikina & Yasuhide Tayama vs. ? Breaking News: TCW Loses Their Flagship The news that is reverberating all around the wrestling world this week is that TCW has lost their flagship show, TCW Presents Total Wrestling. With the squeeze on in America wrestling-wise (the economy is an F+ and falling, while the wrestling industry is at an F and falling); it was only a matter of time before one of the majors felt the effects. TCW had been putting on decidedly average shows lately, and apparently GNN Total Sports took the opportunity to pull the plug. Their highest show in the last month was a C+, and they have only managed three shows all year that reached B-. The connection between ratings and the presence of Tommy Cornell is undeniable. There is no doubt that ratings definitely skyrocket whenever Tommy is on the show. Take a two week stretch in early February for instance. For all intents and purposes they put on the same show two weeks in a row, yet the first one gained a B- and the second a C. What was the main difference? It was the fact that the first one had a match on it which saw Ricky Dale Johnson defeat Tommy Cornell. The question then remains – how can TCW pull itself out of this hole and regain their former prestige? The answer might lie in adapting to their current situation and making the best of it. With the economic situation in America the way it is, TCW might be best served by riding things out with only their former B-show, Showdown, which airs Mondays at 10:00 on East Coast Today. While it’s not nearly as prestigious as GNN Total Sports, it will have to do for the time being. They are going to take a definite hit, though, as ECT only airs in the Mid-Atlantic, New England, South East, and Tri-State areas. This is an odd situation for TCW, as they now have not TV presence in their home area, the South West. Also, the Tuesday Night Wars are unofficially over, with SWF declared the winner by default. Their Supreme TV is still standing and still broadcasting on Tuesday nights, and they have recently added a second show, Full Throttle, which airs at midnight on Thursdays, oddly enough on the aforementioned East Coast Today. This whole situation will most certainly be one to watch for the foreseeable future.

They tried their best, but there might have been too much aggression in the ring at one time. The wild Samoan and the ex-football star didn’t quite mesh, and the match had a certain lack of flow. Even so, the match wasn’t a complete loss, only not quite as good as it could have been. Rhino, being the veteran, got the win. Seeing as though the reason we invited Utamuro on this tour in the first place was to refine Kawasawa, this doesn’t bode well for his future in GCG. The match was overly clunky as Nishimuraya has definitely lost a step since his heyday in BHOTWG. No wonder he was languishing on the independent scene. I’m sure we can find another high-flyer who can at least keep up with Kawasawa, and he might even be on the roster already. Ikina & Tayama showcased their great teamwork, as Tayama would start out by isolating Vessey and brutalizing him with his characteristically stiff offense. Ikina would tag in, land a few choice shots, then tag Tayama back in to continue the assault. Miyazaki didn’t get to do much, but when he did finally get the hot tag, Ikina & Tayama were already riding a crest of momentum too large to get over. Miyazaki was forced to tag Vessey back in, but Vessey wasn’t sufficiently recovered from the previous beatdown enough to put up much of a fight, so he was easy pickings for a Super Ikina Driver. Nagahama does not have the potential Kuroki does, though, and we’re only waiting for him to realize it. The first step to do that is to get some wins under his belt, and he did that tonight, weathering Nagahama’s suplexes and finally finding an opening to nail him with the Kuroki Krush. We may have to separate him and Bennett permanently, because he’s too valuable as a singles competitor, especially in the light of some news we recently got that we’ll get into later. I should hope we could trust two 40-year olds to go out there and orchestrate an awesome match, and this did not disappoint. Pistol Pete was still better though, and showed Naonobu that by nearly decapitating him with the Pistol Whip Lariat. The last time Cox went for the Immortal Driver, Hyobanshi reversed it into a textbook Hyobanshi Face Plant, then scooped Cox up and down with a huge Nova Bomb Redux for the win. But as we got into the actual card, things heated up quite nicely. Pistol Pete and Naonobu put on a match befitting two old masters, and Toshiharu Hyobanshi reaffirmed why he is the World Heavyweight Champion. It is disappointing that Dark Angel won’t be appearing in GCG for the foreseeably future due to scheduling conflicts, but we need to schedule around the Japanese scene more than what’s going on in Canada. Anyway, when his contract comes up for renewal, we’re not sure at all there’ll be enough money in it for him. His skills are degrading quickly and we need people who will give us greatness, not just goodness. Now, for the situation we referenced earlier. It seems that Jack Marlowe isn’t happy at the rate we’re growing in GCG, and doesn’t want to even talk about renewing his contract, which runs out in a little over a month. We don’t quite know yet what the rest of Marlowe’s GCG tenure will entail, but suffice it to say they won’t be fun for him. Gakusha needs some heat back after losing the World Heavyweight Title at Parade of Champions, and Marlowe is just the man to give it to him. Then he can go back to North America and work his dates with MPWF and NYCW in peace. We don’t have all our matches set up in total for next week, but we have two dates set in stone. Next Monday, there will be a World Heavyweight Tag Match, and it will be Shotaro Ikina & Yasuhide Tayama vs. Nathan Coleman & Stuart Ferdinand. But will it be just them? Next Wednesday, we take a shot in the dark. Can Toshiharu take TCW’s Rocky Golden to a great match, or are we pulling at straws? Find out for yourself next week!
