QAW: Queens Of American Wrestling

Recommended Posts

So, since we're starting 2020 threads about individual promotions now, I thought I'd join in with what is arguably my favorite C-Verse company. So, what do you think is in store? Have their top stars been poached to USPW, NOTBPW, or any big company that's started their own women's division? Has Alexis Lee Littlefeather retired? Have Jillian Jarvis and Vinny Cruz tied the knot? Have they finally gotten a TV deal on one of the Mex/ American stations?

<p>I doubt they've really moved up a lot, as I think AAA will be the more popular Women's fed (I love QAW of course, but it seems that Cverse America is slightly more into Sports Entertainment then pure Performance, at least when you look at the big 3) but they're probably have some nice things going for them.</p><p> </p><p>

-They've probably got some good and younger talent going, I could see Ashley Glover return after her rehab and becoming the next big baby face there, possible rival to Danielle Sweethearts popularity.</p><p> </p><p>

-They probably will join the COTT, especially with OLLIE's Women's Division leading to a COTT Women's title.</p><p> </p><p>

-They'll have some nice pop levels outside the Texas border, possibly able to run shows and still make a profit.</p><p> </p><p>

-If AAA hits the cult equivalent, which I strongly believe since the bio's have hinted Catherine wants to go national, they might have "less friendly relations" with each other, not all out war, but a more rocky existence.</p><p> </p><p>

-And if all that nonsense above does happen, I believe the catalyst for that relationship change would be the stealing of Foxxy LaRue (I always felt she belonged more with AAA then QAW anyway)</p><p> </p><p>

-I feel most the roster will be static, as I don't see alot of them besides Sweetheart, LaRue, or Jarvis jumping ship to the bigger companies.</p><p> </p><p>

-Charity Sweet will be #1, beating out Tommy Cornell, and Adam will rename the database to the Sweetverse, don't @ me.</p><p> </p><p>

Jokes aside, I can't wait to see where they're at, and will most likely run a save or two off them.</p>

<p>I see no reason why both AAA and QAW couldn't have jumped in size. Assuming the Mid South is as "hot" a region as it was in 2016, it seems a natural for growth. (It should be noted that QAW is the only company I ever see the AI increase in size and NOT drop back down a week later in the 2016 version).</p><p> </p><p>

And with the changes to stables being made, I really hope we see some more in QAW to rival Ronin 3. And with that, I'll use the changes to matches with Match Styles no longer being a thing and run a Women's Cage Wars without having to worry about anyone complaining because their brawling skill isn't high enough. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

I can see them not only expanding into the south-west but also across the border with a TV show. So at Regional level and with a luchadora like Electric Dreamer as one of the top babyfaces. She always gets a bonus to having a fanbase of young women anyways so I can't not imagine her being one of the faces of the company.

Okay, so QAW is the sole Women's Only country in the United States. Some nice new teams, some nice new stables, and the new tournament features should make booking Queen Of The Ring a breeze.

I think the biggest surprise is how good the backstage atmosphere is. That's something I always struggled with at the start of 2016 in QAW.

Some of the roster changes sting (Charity Sweet is gone?!? NOOOO!), but overall, I think they've got a lot of potential going forward.

<p>So, let's take a look at the general roster (we'll focus on the wrestling side of things for now)</p><p> </p><p>

Major Stars- Danielle Sweetheart, Alina America</p><p> </p><p>

Danielle is now a 4x QotR winner, and Alina is the World Champion. Alina's still lacking in the charisma department, otherwise she'd be the perfect figurehead.</p><p> </p><p>

Stars- Emma May, Foxxy LaRue, Juana Huracan</p><p> </p><p>

Good for Emma! Foxxy going heel isn't a huge surprise, and the AI always turned Juana face in 2016, so this seems fitting.</p><p> </p><p>

Well-Known- Houston Handley, Hellcat Hernandez, Pamela Rojo, Toni Parissi.</p><p> </p><p>

Hellcat and Pamela broke up, and I'm surprised neither one is a bigger deal.</p><p> </p><p>

Recognisable- Alexis Lee Littlefeather, Ashley Grover, Ava Anderson, Lily Snyder, Little Miss Perfect, Marianna Torres, Pinky Perez, Millie The Minx, Raquel Alvarado, Teresa Perez</p><p> </p><p>

Raquel is STILL in the midcard? Man. Little Miss Perfect is formerly Sarah Taylor of AAA, and she's the Shockwave Champion and a... heel? SARAH?!? That's... huh.</p><p> </p><p>

The Bottom Of The Card- Becca Barton, Coco Malloy, Darkness Cat, Felicia Luck, Honey Badger, Marie Punnen, Izzy Quick, Modesty Pador, Sonnaz Shah</p><p> </p><p>

Becca is going to need some wins, considering she's in a story with some of the heavies of the roster, but being aligned with the top heel stable, that should come easily enough. Tagging with Toni, Toni gets the win, yadda yadda. Marie & Honey are the tag champs.</p><p> </p><p>

Every show is going to need a Storytelling match and a High Spots match. For the latter, of the roster, you're going to want to look at Darkness Cat, Coco, Izzy, Teresa, Ashley, and Hellcat, for the most part. The high fliers currently skew towards the babyface/ tecnico side, but since the QAW product doesn't strictly enforce the face/ heel divide, that's not a big issue.</p>

<p>Moving on-</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Tag Teams</strong></p><p> </p><p>

You've got a few spread across the card.</p><p> </p><p>

Anderson & Snyder- They still have great chemistry and have become fixtures of the tag team division in QAW, especially in light of the break-ups of the Anti-Establishment and Crackdown.</p><p> </p><p>

Payback, Inc.- Toni Parissi and Becca Barton (formerly Emma Bitch).</p><p> </p><p>

Tex-Mex- Houston Handley & Teresa Perez. Still in the middle of the card. I'm honestly still a little surprised that the latter isn't higher up the card. She always performed well for me in 2016. Good in the ring, good in angles.</p><p> </p><p>

The Rage- Honey Badger & Marie Punnen, the current QAW Tag Team champions. They need a lot of work, of course, especially their Aerial skill.</p><p> </p><p>

Perez & Torres- Pinky Perez and Marianna Torres (Poison Ivy in CILL). Many of the QAW roster now works for the CILL Women's Division and vice versa. The real striking thing in 2020 is that Pinky Perez is not only not a negative influence, she's actually a positive influence backstage, which is... Just.... That might be more of a shock than AAA going out of business or NOTBPW and CGC merging.</p><p> </p><p>

The San Diego Girls- Coco Malloy and Izzy Quick. Both have decent Aerial stats, so their keepers for the short term at least.</p><p> </p><p>

Overall, I feel the tag team division in QAW is much stronger this time around than in 2016. It's also even split between faces and heels, though with the way the QAW product is currently, that's not a huge issue.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Stables</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Ronin 3- Probably the biggest change for the company, Jillian Jarvis left for greener pastures and Juana Huracan turned face. So, the current line-up is the now heel Foxxy LaRue, Toni Parissi, Becca Barton, and Vinny Cruz as the manager.</p><p> </p><p>

The Storm Front- Spilling out of the "Juana's a babyface now", she got herself some allies in the form of Alexis Lee Littlefeather and newcomer Sonnaz Shah.</p><p> </p><p>

The Clenched Fist- Hellcat Hernandez, Anderson & Snyder, and Felicia Luck.</p><p> </p><p>

The Furies- Emma May, Honey Badger, and Marie Punnen. I usually would try to form a stable around Emma in 2016 (usually Claire Winters and Laura Flame), so I approve of this.</p><p> </p><p>

The Line- As in "The First Line of Defense". It's still an awkward name, but hey. The three stalwart babyfaces of Ashley Grover & Tex-Mex.</p><p> </p><p>

A nice little line-up of groups, and now since QAW is a little more except of 6-person tags, a welcome change.</p><p> </p><p>

I personally might add another babyface stable, probably Sweetheart, Alina and Rojo, for reasons I'll detail later.</p><p> </p><p>

Still enough groups and teams that you could totally do a 4 vs 4 or 5 vs 5 Cage Wars for one of the big events (yay for Match Styles not being a thing anymore!).</p>

<p><strong>Who To Hire</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Rose & Lilly are both incredibly talented and they've got 100 tag experience, AND they get the Tag Specialist bonus on top of that. On the other hand, they're a bit pricey for a company QAW's size. I mean, they're worth it, but you might want to wait a bit until you have a bigger war chest.</p><p> </p><p>

There's no one who speaks Japanese on the roster, so if you'd like to start a trade agreement with 5SSW (or WINNOW or Kitsune whenever they open) or talk any of the unemployed Japanese wrestlers into coming over (Spider Isako!) you'll need someone who speaks the tongue. Of the unemployed talent, Connie Morris and Tsuki Kawamata both speak Japanese, and they both will work for about $30-40 per show, if I recall correctly. Of the two, I prefer Connie, as her in-ring skills like Basics, Psychology, and other fundamentals, are a bit better, so she's an excellent "carpenter" or "technician".</p><p> </p><p>

Haven't had much time to poke around with the rest of unemployed list, but Black Diamond, Joanna Silver, and DupliKate all look like they could be winners in QAW.</p>

I wonder if it's worth it to start a relationship with 5SSW.

I'd do it occasionally in 2016 sometimes to open up a worker to the U.S., but I always sent money, never workers. Because in 2016, so few companies ran shows more than once a month (and those that did sometimes would use a small fraction of the roster), the workers sent would often never get used before the loan period expired.

In 2020, however, 5SSW runs a lot more shows, and looking at the autobooker, they use a LOT of tag & trios matches this time around. I could send 4 or 5 workers on a loan, and watch them improve significantly.

On the subject of relationships, 5SSW will agree to talent trades and generally being on good terms, but at the start of 2020 QAW is too small for them to agree to send workers on excursion.

And the other thing I'll mention, not related to company relationships, make sure to make good use of Commissioner Bomb in angles. Her presence on the show can often make the difference between pop growing or not, I've found.

Sister companies doesn't make sense, because there is such a huge size discrepency. However, offering them a spot as a dev company for a TCW women's division could have some merit.

While you're correct in general, I think Shaun is using the feature incorrectly. In reality, there is a LARGE size difference between NJPW and STARDOM but they are sister companies, being owned by the same parent. In TEW terms, as I alluded to, there's no reason to acquire QAW just to have a sister promotion. Using them as a dev company is an obvious benefit (if you plan on using the division prominently) but wouldn't necessarily be a first-tier corporate target. It would make more sense for a TCW to buy a MAW since there would be HUGE benefits to doing so, not just for sideshow purposes.

And the other thing I'll mention, not related to company relationships, make sure to make good use of Commissioner Bomb in angles. Her presence on the show can often make the difference between pop growing or not, I've found.

As a person who ALWAYS uses authority figures, and sometimes more than one (face vs heel, sets up the annual 5v5 match for primary control), this change was most welcome. I've always used the Bomb extensively and now I have reason to do it even more.

Oh and I'm going through the movesets of the new girls and OMG some of these finishers are the definition of lame, in my opinion. So I'm going through and replacing most of them.

QAW is fun, and I love the "Not strictly enforced" face/ heel divide, but I've been having a bit of difficulty increasing pop. Not losing pop, mind you, but I can't always hit that sweet spot with my weekly shows. Admittedly, I'm playing with Industry/Economy turned on, and the former isn't great (it's basically on because the latter is really strong).

I'm starting to use talent trades with CILL to bring in people to job out on a short term basis. They'll be thrilled for Pamela Rojo, and in return, you can bring in Antonia Andreas to eat a few pins.

I'm debating joining COTT. That's something I always did in 2016, mainly because the way I ran shows, I'd easily and inadvertently run other companies out of business. The way spillover and regional battles work in 2020 makes that less of an issue, however. Still, getting access to the female workers of OLLIE and CZCW is certainly a perk, especially now that you can bring over tag teams instead of one worker at a time.

Why not bring in some of those rookies from CZCW/ACPW and use them to eat pins? It gets them in-ring experience (and the resulting skill increases) and you have full access to them (which differs from loans)?

I always start my own alliance. In 16, I'd prop up AAA and WTW (my dev promotion) and sometimes EWA like that, while getting my talent moved around, opening up new areas for them. In 20, it's 5SSW and CILL, which works even better. I didn't like how alliance titles were handled in 16 but haven't gotten far enough to see whether or not that's changed. I use alliance loans in 20 to get 5 Star's workers who refuse to accept bookings in the US to open up the area. And this year, though it's a long term strategic error, I'm a lot more willing to accept the 'agrees not to steal workers from....' relationship. It's a long term strategic error because when I get big and a USPW or NOTBPW comes sniffing around, I can't do anything to prevent the shared worker from being poached. I lost my Cerebral Assassin character (Shiori Jippensha) to NOTBPW in TEW16 because of my working agreement with 5SSW. But with all the promising younglings in this edition, I don't care. ;)

On the plus side, I'm getting very good luck with tag chemistry. Ashley & Alina, Shah & Modesty, and Millie and new hire Connie Morris. Even if with keeping all the reigning champions free to defend their titles at Starshow, as is customary for that PPV, I'd just need to borrow one team from someone to run a tag team tournament (I'd use the Southwest Tag belt render, save the Global Tag for the inevitable brand split). That's assuming I don't find two others with good tag chemistry.

So, ran a Southwest Tag Tournament (El Paso counts as "SOUTHWEST" even if it's not officially in what the game considers "Southwest") and that Tournament feature works really nicely once you get the hang of it.

Also, Dear Foxy LaRue- please stop showing up high.

Should she have to go to rehab or get fired, who's a good replacement leader for Ronin 3, either temporary or permanent? Admittedly, a lot of this would depend on chemistry, as ideally you want Vinny Cruz to manage all 3 members, but otherwise.

Raquel Alvarado is the obvious choice, but Pamela Rojo could fit with a heel turn as well. Free agent wise, I can't think of anyone with enough pop to make them a credible who's both a good heel and would fit in thematically. Maybe Steph Blake.

I'm promoting from within (Ronin 3). Becca is going to be the new leader and part of their storyline is going to be her, Toni, and Vinny scouting for a replacement third. That gives me time to decide who will be the new addition. Right now I'm deciding between Rika Tsujimura and Rina Kasahara, depending on which one picks up English faster. Ruby Reece is a possibility as well.
