Wrestling remains a staple on British TV too, ITV enjoy a healthy relationship with AEW and TNT Sports recently acquired the rights of WWE programming away from their rivals SKY. After decades of owning the exclusive rights of WWE programming for years, SKY had been outbid by then BT Sports for the rights, leaving them without any wrestling on their platform for the first time in 30 years. But SKY did not give up their aim to air wrestling to the hungry British fans. Throughout the year of 2023 they had been in talks with purchasing the trademark and catalogue of World of Sport Wrestling - in September it was made official. SKY announced on their digital media platform that it had given World of Sport wrestling the green-light for a 12 episode series, airing on Sky Showcase at 12pm every Saturday leading up to a New Years Eve, 3 hours season finale held at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. --------------------------------------- The Facts: World of Sport will begin with 35 popularity in all regions of the UK, they will have a 3 month deal with Sky Showcase (demanding a minimum show rating of 35), the deal will only be renewed if World of Sport wrestling have at least 37 popularity in at least 3 regions in the UK by the time of renewal. SKY have given World of Sport a budget of £500,000. The head booker who will oversee the promotion will be legendary wrestler Dave Taylor. The starting roster will all be given PPA contracts for 3 months. The data I will be using will be the 2023 RWC October by Questlove. ---------------------------------------
