  1. Honestly I think it's needed to ensure there aren't bugs and glitches a year in

This is my biggest concern. I worry that the two-month in-game demo/beta won't be able to collect enough data in regards to bugs for long-term games, which is what I exclusively play. I've yet to have a save game (in any version of TEW) that didn't go longer than two years... more like 5-10 years on a single save game. Seems like those of us who like these longer games will be beta testing long after the game is released.

  2. It really took me a hot minute to get on board with TEW2020 but I can absolutely say I am on board now. It took four days of small blimps of playing and using the "Simplified" skin. I can say now that this certainly is a better game than TEW2016 in terms of gameplay overall, simply because of the depth. It goes further than TEW2016 in a lot of ways but you have to be willing to learn this new system to find out about it.

I'm not afraid to admit that I read the book by its cover and dismissed it. I was wrong. This game is fun and has a ton to offer. I do think that the buttons need to be fixed so it isn't a jumbled mess, some things could be condensed into other screens, etc. I've never complained about clicks when it comes to TEW... if anything, I've always bought silent mice with no sound when you click. It's a text-based simulator, you are expected to click a ton.

Ultimately what helped me the most was playing TEW2016 and TEW2020 right next to each other on my dual-screens. I would do something on TEW2016 and do the same thing on TEW2020 and vice versa. Some things are better on each but the one thing that kept sticking out: the depth of TEW2020 compared to older versions. It truly is a step above any other TEW released to this point. I know people have their gripes here and there, which most are good gripes to point out but I think if people give this a really good chance, they'll see it for what it really is: a fun game. :)

    #33: Moving into 2020

I've been putting a ton of work into the database over the past week-and-a-bit, so things are moving at quite a pace - over half of the US scene is now finished. As I'll be working over most of Christmas that means I hope to have North America complete before the end of 2019 and can put that in for full testing.

As I won't be working on anything else in the meantime, this will be the last journal entry for the year. To cap off the year, I'll end with a quick summary of where the project is currently at.

    - We're still looking for the release date to be around April; things are progressing very well and so I'm currently very confident that we'll be hitting that projected date.

    - Almost all the coding is complete, there's just a few minor bits and pieces to tidy up and the user-suggested products and attributes to add in.

    - About 60 to 70% of the interface graphics are done.

    - Testing continues to go well and the testers are all giving extremely positive feedback. Based on their reactions and my own play tests, I don't think there's any doubt that the game is light years ahead of TEW2016 and will be very well received.

So, all in all, everything is super positive right now.

From everyone here at GDS, we hope everyone has a safe and happy Christmas and New Year and we look forward to having TEW2020 for you to play with in just a few months.

Well, this journal entry makes a lot more sense now.

He had basically already lost my $35 prior to reading that, it's guaranteed now.</p>

With Fog Of War not being viable in TEW2020 due to some of the other changes, its direct replacement is Scouting. This is a very similar system, with a few crucial differences that allow it to work within the TEW2020 framework.

Whereas the old Fog Of War used a combination of grades, textual descriptions, and numbers, the Scouting system instead is entirely numerical. The way this works is that you'll see a range, for example "Brawling: 23 - 40" meaning that the Brawling skill is somewhere between 23 and 40. It's not a case where it's automatically in the middle, so in that example it could well be that the real value is 24. As different wrestlers will use different ranges and number placement, it is not possible to simply memorise patterns - for example, if one worker has a range of "20 - 40" and you happen to know that the number is really 25, that doesn't mean that another wrestler who has "20 - 40" is also 25. The higher the Scouting level goes, the smaller the range, until eventually you reach maximum Scouting in which case you get to see the exact number.

Using this system means that it's like-for-like when doing worker comparisons, which is far more intuitive and visually appealing than having different data types. This also means that the new ability to search for specific skill values is still viable; for example, if you search for Aerial of exactly 50 then you'll return workers whose Aerial scouts as "40 - 60" (even if their genuine Aerial is only 41) because it still fits within the range.

Whereas Fog Of War would take a long time to reach completion, the new Scouting system is far brisker, and generally you'll get very close to full scouting well before the worker has reached the ten year mark of their career (at least in the modern era).

Under the new system, some items are exempt. In particular, things that are visual - for example, Menace and Sex Appeal - are not scoutable and so are automatically shown as their exact number, to simulate that you don't need to see someone in action to know how they look. Physical skills, such as Power, also now have their own separate scouting level, one which is significantly faster than the others; this takes into account that you don't need to see someone very much to get a good sense of how strong they are, whereas you do to gauge someone's technical ability, for example. The other categories are similar to their Fog Of War counterparts: In Ring, Performance (for the gimmick performance skills such as Babyface, Heel, Cool, etc), Entertainment, Broadcasting, and Refereeing.

I didn’t use Fog of War. I just liked having a letter as opposed to so many numbers to constantly look at. It’s supposed to be a game to have fun, I don’t crunch numbers and look at things like that for fun. I’m glad we have a forum full of mathematicians though.

  6. I am pretty sure Adam talked about moving to purely numbers in the dev journal. Instead of holding an A* match it is a 100 match.

I just went through the Developers Journal again and searched for "match", "100", and "grades". The only mention of a 0-100 rating switch is in regards to gimmick performance on page 3. If someone else could show me that entry I'd appreciate it. I followed it very closely and I feel like that's something I would have instantly thrown up a red flag about. :(

This isn't a beta as much as people want to tell you that. This game is finished outside of bugs that the general public will find this week and will be patched. What you see is what you are getting next week outside of whatever bugs are fixed. If this was released six months ago, I'd probably be completely OK with what you are saying. But we are one week away from a $34.95 purchase. I can think of 10+ games I'd rather buy for that price tag right now that doesn't give me headaches the second I load it. This was a massive bummer.</p>

They can let you go without cause at any point and there is nothing an employee can do about it. The fact they get 90 days notice and a pro-rated portion of their contract for those 90 days, is above and beyond most employers.</p>
  13. It's very weird that we don't even have anything to hype up the game, no screenshots, no videos, nothing, I don't want to base the decision of buying the game on a limited features demo.

I want a video explaining the full features, how they work, the new features, what can we expect, stuff like that, with nothing to base things on, I'll wait for like some people's opinion before I buy, 2K20 has given me PTSD about ordering ---- straight away with no proof of concept.

The demo is the full-featured game. The only limitation is two months for a save game. You could run countless saves for two months prior to buying it if you wanted to.
