1. I might be in the minority here, but I feel like they didn't do enough on Rampage to build a story when they had the audience locked in for Punk. I haven't been watching any wrestling and I tuned in for him, though I didn't watch Dynamite last night because it seems like it's just going to be the same old wrestling formula. I dunno. It's cool to see him back but I haven't really felt the need to tune in on a regular basis yet.

I think Rampage was awesome, but see my comments above on Dynamite. Rampage is an hour show, so I'm ok with them basically making it "this is the huge thing we want to highlight this week" which seems to be the plan with it.

I would have booked Dyanamite a bit different around that punk promo though

Punks promo last night was great, but I would have structured the show around it different. but his promo was very good, layed out why he would pick Darby, and why it's important to him that he proves to himself he can still hang with the roster top to bottom

but I'm not sure why for instance we had a clunky women's match with two green workers, a very cold match with Nightmare Family vs the Factory (which the crowd barley cares about) into a kinda weird squash for Black after that highpoint

I think they might be trying to keep Punk and some other top acts away from each other until Post Darby, but it does make the show feel kinda unnatural. It's like they are telling the Punk - Darby storyline in a separate universe than the rest of the show. Which is fine for me through the match, but then I need the rest of the roster to be like "ok, great glad your here, I want to beat the crap outta you to prove I'm the best."

I'm a fan of both ladies, but they had no chemistry whatsoever and Velvet botched more than usual.

Another excellent Punk promo though.

People can crap all over Matt Hardy as much as they want, but he almost always delivers solid matches and this week he has the match of the night.

I was kinda surprised by the card honestly. Like it was fine, and I guess on some level I'm happy they just were like "we aren't hot shotting this show, aside from the Punk Promo"

But you would think, with all the eyes coming in for this week, they would have structured who was on this show a bit differently

Like, just as an example, I would have had the Bucks vs. a decent young team to start, and put that OC/Hardy match after the promo

Also not sure I would have ended the show with The Nightmare Family vs the Factory into a squash for Black where Lee Johnson somehow didn't get killed as well.

I wouldn't have put Hayter vs. Velvet on this show, and that has nothing to do with the workers, I like them both. I just think you have stronger female match ups here, and hands you can trust not to botch. Like I would have gone with Ford vs. Rosa or something like that here.

Just kinda odd pacing for a show that you must expect a larger than normal audience for, I dunno.

But the seem to be aware of that

  4. I've just seen what they made Kross wear... You may not like the guy, but you can't disagree that he's getting shafted big time by Vince.

But I should say that I expected a bit more from his match with Joe

my impression (that can never be proved) is that since Kross was always compared to Triple H 2.0 in developmental, Vince is showing Hunter who's boss here and that NXT is a failure.

    Pettiness, they name is Vince

  5. I'm not even a big fan of Becky but I know she's over. There's no reason at all to have her be a heel.

The reports said that she asked to be a heel because it's easier being a heel than a face aka WWE makes all their babyfaces look dumb.

And they managed to get Bianca Kofi'd in the process.

This company is helpless at the moment.

and the thing is, even if that's true ( I have my doubt, for reasons others have already mentioned here) then why didn't Becky win in a heelish fashion to protect Bianca?

Because all BEcky did AT summerslam was walk down the isle, kill Carmella, then stand face to face, offer a match, have that match accepted and then just punched her in the face and won.

Where was she a heel in that?

  6. Yea, i just don't get how you can be this lazy as a billion dollar company. Here, let me book Becky's return 10x better off the top of my head.

    1. Have Biancia kill Carmela after Carmela cuts a promo to massive heat. I'm talking a 2 minute squash.

    2. HAve Biancia cut a promo saying Sasha is scared of her, and that she let the fans and herself down

    3. Becky comes out to a massive pop (which would happen anyway) and then says something along the lines of "you haven't beaten me, and I never lost that title."

And just book a long form match for when Becky can do it.

This isn't as hard as WWE tries to make it seem.

  7. I don't think I've been as excited for a wrestling show as I am right now.

In other news, Roman Reigns said that CM Punk wasn't a draw. So much low-hanging fruit right there. The simple fact is that AEW sold out the United Center for a b-show with no matches announced solely on the strength that fans thought CM Punk might show up. If that ain't drawing power, I don't know what is.

I dislike Roman, but the actual qoute was he wasn't a draw like Cena or Orton were at the time.

Agree to disagree, but those are two pretty big centerpieces to be compared against

  8. Not to get off topic, but Goldberg lost clean (if 3 minutes outside the ring and 2 minutes in the ring after the bell is clean) to McIntyre last time around. I don't see the result being different this time around.

And thanks for the context, Jaysin. Can definitely see how some might take exception with that part of it.

I'll believe it when I see it. Bill Goldberg with 2 losses in a row? We'll see.

This is the man that demanded he beat the Fiend or no new contract

Regardless, my point was more that the way WWE books, they have zero new stars. Everyone other than Reigns is a J. A. G. booking wise

  9. So... What was the point of all of this if THAT was the finish?

Anyway, match of the night? Sammy vs. Spears. Which is mind-boggling, because it had Shawn Spears. I mean, he's a good hand. But his matches in AEW have all been of the "Well, that was good" category at best.

I mean, to put over a young star by a 51 year old Vet, while giving said Vet every excuse for losing it?

Now Jericho can take time off to tour and just do commentary, MJF can be an annoying prick about beating Jericho clean (after 4 matches, including a death match) and if/when he decides to get back into the ring again they can do him v MJF or not.

Seemed like pretty good booking to me, putting over the young up and comer over the established legend in a great match. It's what WWE has failed to do for the last 20 years, thus why Bill OOOOLLLLDDDBBBEEERRRGGG is prob about to squash LAshley.

The stipulation was silly though - no music? And not using the Judas Effect? I understand when the big guys can't use the powerbomb, since that's a go-to move. Maybe with context it would mean more.

The context is that MJF is a slimy prick, and took away his opponents finisher, to give himself a major advantage in the match, which in fact directly lead to the finish when Jericho hesitated because he was going to throw it, letting MJF turn the tables into a salf of the earth for the victory.

as to the song, the reason there was pretty obvious, that entrance with 5K people signing it for him while MJF screamed at them was awesome. If that's Jericho's last entrance, it will be a memorable one

  10. Jungle Boy said that Christian has been sort of helping him and guiding him. Probably not a full on mentorship role, but along those lines.

He also said Jake Atlas is his best friend and he hopes they get to wrestle each other in AEW now that he's gone from AEW. I was never really impressed with Atlas in WWE, but Jungle Boy says some of his best matches happened with Atlas before AEW so who knows.

I do wonder how this double title match plays out

If Kenny just wins both, i guess that's fine to cement Christian in the mid to upper mid card as a gate keeper and Kenny as a big pelt for whoever gets him finally (hangman, I hope).

PArt of me wonders if they'll split the matches, but that would kind of mess with the "god of pro wrestling" thing going on if he loses a belt.

MAybe They do it just so Christin can work impact and give Kenny a break? I dunno

  11. The no Judas Effect makes sense since that has been his primary finisher in AEW. I may have herd it wrong but I thought Jericho had to win all 5 matches to get a match with MJF.

I didn't hear no Judas effect, just no Judas or entrance music.

I might be wrong, but MJF seemed to be saying he wanted the energy of the crowd out of it, i didn't hear he couldn't use his finisher.

  12. I don't know if it's because I've watched Wardlow since his early days or because I'm a huge Jericho fan, but that match was lack lister to me. Way too many power bombs. It wasn't bad by any means, but as a main event it was less than ideal.

Matt Sydal is super underrated though. The way he just floats between moves and moments is nuts. Martin looks like a great spot monkey right now, but hopefully working with the Sydals will help him improve his overall game.

    *Edit*

What happened to that American Top Team dude? He said last week or the week before that he was coming "next week" with back up against Archer and then as far as I can remember, he never came back nor was it mentioned. I very well could have missed it if it was on Dark or Elevation as I haven't watched either in like a month, but it seemed like something they'd deliver on Dynamite.

Also, the final labor of Jericho stipulation is lame as hell. No entrance music and no Judas Effect? It's not like Jericho has other finishers or anything. Makes me think there's going to be some sort of screwy finish so that we get the real blow off at All Out.

AEW released a press release about the debut of Rampage and this bit was interesting.

So it sounds like there isn't actually going to be a four man booth after all.

On the bolded (and I'm not saying it's worth the payoff) I think the plan is basically the Crowd will sing it and MJF will freak out. I think they are going for a "I can't beleive 20,000 (made up number) fans are singing this song!!!"

I share your concerns that moment might not be worth the stip though lol

  13. They haven’t named Omegas opponent for the Chicago Rampage show, I’m sure it will either be a swerve and it won’t be Punk and the match will be a joke opponent only for Punk to come out.

I still want Page vs Omega but others feel he has more character redemption to go through before he finally wins the big one.

I just think they don't want to lose that payoff with the storyline

They might pay it off before Double or Nothing too

I can't believe anyone but hangman takes that title off Kenny, but if they really have Punk coming in 10 days and Bryan like 3 weeks after that, prob want to get them settled in before circling back to hangman

just no reason to waste that moment now really

  14. Yeah, if NXT got off USA and back only on Peacock/Network I'd be more interested personally. There was a sizable drop in quality once they switched to USA and moved to two hours.

I understand they probably make bank off NXT on USA, but it almost feels over produced like Raw and Smackdown now.

Yea, My wife and I were big NXT on the network fans.

The minute it got on TV and Vince started to care about if it was or was not beating AEW and everything started to get hot shot around, generally became another version of Raw/Smackdown, ect we were out.

Sucks, I loved the golden age of NXT.

It is what it is I guess, Vince is about to turn 76 and clearly has no interest in modern wrestling.

he wants roided up guys 6'2 and over, and young women with nice puppies.

Can't teach an old dog new tricks I suppose. Doesn't help he's now got Pritchard and Johnny Ace as his yes men.

  19. Ask Jeff Jarrett about maximizing your negotiating power and how long the WWE memory is. I wouldn't burn that bridge either. I'd make sure if I left it was on the best possible terms.

Why would taking a better offer burn bridges?

It's not like he's on bad terms, and all rumors are he's open to resigning if the deal is right

Vince respects businessmen. All Adam Cole did was make a good one. If some idiot lost track of my contract while I was basically the face of a brand, i wouldn't bring it up until I didn't have a 90 day no compete either lol.

There's no indication Cole is a moron like Jarret. not sure where this analogy came from.

  20. My only issue with the show was Juvi's insane ring rust. It was painfully obvious he barely wrestles these days.

I wouldn't say that the match was bad by any means, because it wasn't, but unlike Jericho, Juvi seems to be missing that "spark" that made him a special talent back in the day. If he gets more bookings from this, I hope he's able to get back into ring shape. I always loved Juvi even if he was a coke fiend.

I was let down they didn't go top knot even if Jericho would have looked ridiculous

I thought we were getting Lionheart Jericho from WcW days, but prob for the best we didn't haha

  21. At what point do we admit that theres not enough screen time for all these people?

We've got what? 20 guys and gals linked right now? They already have a 100 man roster. Do they need all these people for 2 Youtube shows nobody watches and 3hrs of network TV to build 4 PPVs a year? I mean, what was the point of building this roster of young guys if you were just going to sign people like The Iiconics to more money than they are worth? People remember that WWE is a bad company right? None of these people are over with anyone. Besides CM Punk, and MAYBE Bryan(but im not convinced he moves the needle anymore) who had like 1 moment in pop culture for exactly 2 mos 10 years ago. Who moves the needle here? Nobody.

Tony Khan is making the mistake I make in every one of my big company saves. You just bring in everybody you like and then you have to figure out how to cram 400 dudes into 40 spots. It doesn't work like that, people get screwed. You compromise too much for too little and everybody is just wasted. Go watch Nitro again and chart the career of a guy who had a lot of talent but never went anywhere... Scott Norton. Tell me that won't wind up being half these guys?

I've talked with this with a buddy, and I think what you'll see soon is the lower mid card start to be pruned. Hell alot of them are already only on Dark once in awhile.

Like your Joey Janella's, half the women's division, sonny kiss, the list goes on.

and Khan has talked about how alot of the non Main Event talent is really on the equivalent of the non exclusive PPA deals we do in TEW. as the card fills out more, I expect we'll see alot of those guys on dark or bust.
