  1. Not sure where you're getting your information, but everything I read was that he signed an extension through SummerSlam weekend.

    Your both right

What is being reported is his deal is up, but he agreed (because Triple H asked him to) to work through summerslam weekend to at least finish up the current fued.

He may still resign is the word, he's close to hunter and HBK and apparently likes being the face of NXT. Or he may move on

but jesus, can you imagine the negotiating power you just handed him by apparently forgetting he was up? you should have locked him up MONTHs ago

What i've seen is that the reason Siemens was quietly fired a few months ago (guy in charge of contracts in NXT) is he literally just didn't know Cole was up, and Cole being a good business man, just didn't say anything until the deal was already up.

now he's a super hot Free Agent lol

  2. If Punk or Bryan walk into AEW and get a title shot straight away then what's the point of the ranking system?

one assumes they would have to win a battle royal or something, the rankings system is more a guideline than a rule TBH.

Like for instance, do you feel like getting 20 wins on dark no one saw made Frankie and Daniels the number one team in the division? cause they were going into that match with the bucks.

  3. Yes but to be fair, Hangman did kick out of that. I definitely left with the feeling that he lost because he got V-triggered twice and then hit with the One Winged Angel but if others think it's one of those where the babyface has an excuse for losing then that's fair enough.

I mean they murdered him 3 v 1 for like 10 minutes, and Kenny hit him with a belt right before the knees and Vtriggers into the one winged

If anything, the story I took from this was the dark order is not on the Elites level, and Hangman can't do it all on his own, not that Page was a non-threat. They made him look unstoppable once it was 3 v 1

  4. The ratings also showed that people were pissed when Hangman lost. I trust them enough to see where this is going but it definitely felt like this was the time to pull the trigger for Hangman.

I mean they recovered within 15 minutes but ok.

one 15 minute segment dipping under 1 million while posting your 4th highest show ever seems like an odd reason to re-book an entire feud.

    Save that crap for WWE

  5. I didn't mind it as a one off in this storyline actually. I don't need to see Gage again though

But 100% get if these matches aren't your cup of tea. My wife (who loves AEW) turned to me before the match (she's seen the dark side of the ring on Cage) and was like "have a good night, let me know who wins" and headed to bed

but yea, fits with what they are doing to have Jericho go through his gimmicks

100000% we are getting top knot WCW "Lionheart" Jericho next week and I am here for it :D

edit: also, not really a tough prediction but 100% he's going to win with the lionsault off the top. Just don't kill each other please guys.

  6. I want Punk and Bryan(and many others actually) in AEW just as much as every other AEW fan, but maybe it's just being conditioned by TNA's prime years that when they tease something, it's rarely what everyone thinks. I will pop for Bryan or Punk big time. I just don't want to get myself worked up.

That said, remember when TNA and Jericho teased him signing with the company and all that ended up happening was TNA using Fozzy's song "Enemy" as a ppv theme? Man, good song, but what a huge let down.

Also, AEW would have to be crazy not to try and capitalize on the hype the rumors of Punk and Bryan signing is generating for the company. Even if it's not true, they can lean into it without lying to the fans.

    ehhh I dunno man

I think a bunch of people took the HUGE NEWS!!! moments that turned out to be Miro and Christen as big let downs. I can't imagine they are trolling this hard and then are going to be like "HAHA!"

Half the reason they are growing right now is because they are the anti-WWE in that they basically deliver on promises to fans, both with storylines actually having a point and pushing guys and gals the crowd likes

It's not like they are TNA, and should be happy to be remembered as a wrestling show by the non-hardcore fan. They are building a real brand here.

Hell, even my friends who don't know anything about wrestling other than WWE exists now at least know there is another show on TNT

  7. Man that's crazy. Hopefully he's okay. I knew something was wrong immediately, but figured it was an internal injury until I saw that gusher. Hopefully he doesn't have to miss any time. FTR are an unreal team.

Also, the Chicago show is called First Dance. How funny would it be if they keep teasing CM Punk and it ends up being Fandango? :p

I feel like that interview Tony Kahn gave to the post basically confirmed both signings.

I know all he would say is " I can't comment on those matters" but when you are directly asked "Do you guys have these guys under contract, currently"

you have to have them signed/ completely wrapped up to say that if your not an idiot, and I don't think Tony is.

because a guy like Tony has to know that "I can't comment on those matters" is going to throw the hype machine into overdrive and AEW better now deliver, because wrestling fans (and I'm including myself) are hype children and now everyone is like "OOOOHHHH! he can't way because they are debuting soooooon!" whether that's logical or not ha.

If you had ANY doubt you had these guys in house, you HAVE to go "not right now" or something there don't you?

  8. Yeah, I agree with this.

Punk has been away from the ring and probably away from wrestling altogether for at least 6 years now. We've seen with Miro and to a lesser extent perhaps, Andrade, what just 90 days away does to you as a wrestler. Punk will have to get back in ring shape and regain his confidence as a performer and I can't think of a better group of wrestlers to work with than Shawn Spears and FTR to do exactly that. Behind the scenes and on screen, if I'm Punk I'm asking to work with that trio because they are total professionals and they'll get me to where I want to be. Punk versus The Pinnacle makes sense because the promos with MJF will be hot fire and can carry the rivalry whilst Punk works to get back to a high level as an in-ring performer. Plus he can tell a story with MJF, he won't have to do a high work rate classic to have a great match.

I also think that Jericho versus MJF is going on last at All Out. Fozzy are touring the UK in September, I think they write Jericho off for a while, maybe a Retirement Match? Loser Leaves Town? MJF wins, hams it up, then Cult of Personality plays and Punk steals MJF's thunder and stares him down to end the show.

Punk's program also doesn't need the title and he shouldn't be taking away spots from other performers. Darby has been spinning his wheels in the midcard with Ethan Page & Scorpio Sky despite being one of the companies fastest emerging top stars next to Britt Baker. If Omega does retain, and I think he will because the babyface side of the roster is so much stronger, then I'd like to see him versus Darby in the main event of the next PPV because Darby deserves to be a headliner now.

I agree with almost all of this, except Kenny retaining in chicago unless there is some further nuance to Hangman's story planned

Like I feel like Hangman is at the cusp now, I'll compare it (just push and aftermath wise, not performance) to the Fiend and Goldberg. you have to pull the trigger on "making" hangman now, or risk that the fans see him as a stalled talent

they've told this very good story about hangman basically losing the chance to be the face of the company as the first champion, Kenny pulling him out of a funk with the tag team after he lost, then Hangman cracking under the pressure of that and setting Kenny off on "the belt collector" path while he basically hid from the world in a bottle and lost all his friends .

now you've slow built that he's found friends who accept him for him (dark order) and believe in him, and he's finally after a year of slow build up got the confidence in himself to look Kenny in the eye and say "I'm just as good as you are" with a win

I'm just not sure where you go with it if he doesn't win in Chicago that doesn't do what Goldberg did to the fiends career (ended it, basically)

agree that Punk doesn't need the belt though in whatever storyline he gets put into, MJF sounds good as well, since I would figure you have to at least start Punk as a face since the Crowd is going to go bonkers for him.

  9. Also, if the Punk news is true, please just K.I.S.S AEW (which they generally do)

give me the hangman redemption arc we are on, have him win in Chicago, and then have Punk walk out to one of the biggest pops in show history

Then we get a 3 way story between Punk trying to be the top dog, Hangman trying to prove he can be a champion, and Kenny and the elite sniffing around it all.

    it writes itself lol

  10. Good for them. Hopefully they do more than Christian. But if they are getting paid boatloads of money, good for them regardless.

I think Christian has been fine, and it's one of the things I like about AE, how they slot talents properly.

They clearly see him for what he is, a Upper Mid Card gate keeper, and I expect his storyline, similar to other veteran guys, won't come at the expense of talents they are trying to build up.

meanwhile in WWE (whatever you think of the fiend) we still do things like have Goldberg win and ruin a whole gimmick because he got real upset he was being asked to get pinned

Punk and Bryan would be a different kettle of fish, those guys still have money to draw you at the top of the card.

  11. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Jaysin" data-cite="Jaysin" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46243" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>It's not hard to miss the Lucha Bros. It seems like one of them has been injured lately after the other one heals lol</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> ya, that's always the problem with the style they work, seems like one of them is always nicked up </p><p> </p><p> Love them though</p>
  12. The tag division would be a lot better if not for having one team that has beaten every other team, including the ones they had lost to previously.

I mean i feel like this is a tired take. Anytime any of the Elite or Jericho sniffs the main event title scene it's "of course, they have a stake in the company so they book themselves to bury everyone"

Omega, Cody, and the Bucks spent the entire first year an a half putting everyone on the roster over. Half the reason a ton of these guys who were seen as Indy only guys or WWE failures are way over and in the UMC/ME of Dynamite now is that they did so. What, were they supposed to just be Midcard jobbers for the life of the promotion? They literally put this company together with there star power from NJPW and connections on the indies.

So what, now they can just never be champions or people will complain?

Also, it's pretty obvious that Omega is going to lose to Hangman in front of live crowds, they've been setting that angle to pay off since the split. I suppose if you don't feel Hangman is "worthy" of his spot either that's more nepotism but to me he's a star in the making, and then you can have him go against other fresh matchups and young stars like himself. If he beats Kenny in an epic match in front of a hot crowd, he's a made man.

I expect the Bucks will drop the titles to the Lucha Bros once Rey is healthy (they just set this up too on BTE) in front of crowds, as basically all of them are on record as saying they are just holding off on the Lucha Bros mega push for crowds, which are coming back now. Live crowds are going to be super hot for them and by then will be super hot for the bucks to lose.

Cody is out here literally tanking his career in ways to try to get QT marshall of all people over, but he gets the same crap.

  13. WarnerMedia has done nothing but be supportive of AEW since the AEW launch happened and they actually go out of their way to promote AEW on a regular basis. They have also renewed Dynamite two multiple times with expected increase in payment.

Unless something insane happens, I don't think WarnerMedia is going to do anything to AEW.

Also, they get paid more for the 4 specials a year on TNT. Previously those weren't more money

This is literally a big vote of confidence in them by Warner. If they thought they weren't worth it, they'd just keep them on TNT and be like "Well, enjoy getting preempted multiple times a year so no one can figure out your actually time slot"

  14. An odd choice for a new network. TBS rebranded themselves as a comedy-focused network a few years back. I mean, there's still sports broadcast occasionally but it's never the big or important games.

Guessing they wanted a large inhouse coverage Turner network that would have a chance of retaining some of the Demo. Dynamite does great in the demo they want (not as good as the NBA and NHL though)

We shall see, at least they get the 4 PPV's a year on TNT still

  17. I feel like I want to weigh in with some opinions for once. For my perspective, I try to look at things in more of a big picture side of things rather than on a smaller scale. So when I see people being critical of the EVPs of the company, I have some thoughts on that.

First of all... Omega, The Bucks and Cody are all better as heels. They all made their name as heels but they were highly entertaining in the environments they were in and won a lot of fan support for the quality of their work that turned them babyface. They then collectively (along with guys like Jericho) used that momentum to help create a company where they HAD to be babyfaces for a while until they could help establish some other babyfaces as credible top guys. They also HAD to use themselves as top draws since it was literally their names at the top of the company and they were the biggest names they had, but they were smart enough early on to take some very important losses to help establish some other names. Adding Jon Moxley bolstered the babyface side of the roster and gave them the freedom to eventually turn heel, while someone like Darby Allin was made with his rivalry with Cody and other people like Hangman Page have been groomed to be top stars in the company. Jericho has also been positioned as a face, who is helping to elevate other talent too.....

So NOW the EVPs no longer need to be the good guys... they've helped to create the other top names in the company, can now revert to their more natural personas that got them over.... and those personas were divisive even then. Some people don't like Omega's ring work, and it's fair to say he's not a top tier mic man. But there are a LOT of other guys who are great at that, and they get more time to talk then he does. Cody likes to be over the top dramatic, and some people don't like that... but there are other people who are more down to earth and gritty or more white meat that you can like. Some people think the Bucks are too flippy or whatever, but there are plenty of other teams who are more solid, or younger that you can like.

And that's one of the things I think AEW are doing extremely well on the big picture... unlike WWE, they have a range of characters that can appeal to different people. You're not going to like everyone 100% of the time, but if you like SOMEONE on there 80% of the time then that's a really good rate of success. And for the most part, they aren't exposing the weaknesses of the people on screen.... Omega doesn't get huge promo time and has a manager who does more talking for him, while segments in general don't run too long. Cody wrestles a style he's pretty good at and is good at getting emotion into his promos.... sometimes he misses the mark (like this week) but for the most part he's using a WWE style really well within a mostly indy style roster, which makes him relatively unique. The Bucks are undoubtedly the best at what they do, and when they heel it up they can make you want to see them lose.... no doubt many sets of fans will look to the more old school white meat team of the Varsity Blonds to beat them, which is awesome!

So overall, I think AEW is doing a very good job at presenting the company as having a mix of characters that can appeal to a lot of people. And they seem to be winning over fans in important demographics, which is very positive. There are plenty of negatives too, with the women's division being a particularly weak point overall so far but I think most of the negatives aren't big picture things.... other than some bad pyrotechnics and some less than flattering camerawork, it's mostly smaller things that can be tightened up with a more experienced staff. And that should come over time too, you can't teach experience... sometimes you just gotta make mistakes and learn from them. As long as those mistakes aren't too frequent (like a certain match ending that didn't work) then the big picture side of AEW looks good to me. Because they clearly have an overall plan, a general vision and are working to make that happen while incorporating whatever changes need to be made along the way. :)

Agree 100%, and said better than I could of Derek

  20. Pretty sure Eddie Kingston is the most consistently entertaining male talent in all of wrestling right now. Easily the best promo in the game.

I still feel bad about that crap explosion, that should have been such a huge babyface turn moment for him.

He did the best he could with it with the PTSD story after. I told my wife, also a huge Eddie fan, "lets just let Eddie have the mic for 5 minutes and see" when she was like "man, he looks like such an idiot off that ending"

he did not disappoint, he saved it as best he could.

  21. I think perhaps they stopped climbing because the thinking is that Max will definitely throw him off if they try and intervene. Loaded gun and holding a hostage kind of scenario, if you catch my drift?

    yea that was my take.

The finish could have been shot from another angle but honestly I didn't have much of a problem with it

It's not like every other company doesn't use freaking crash pads.
