  1. In this case, it's all done live. ha. For that matter, thats what I always come back too. Now, I'm not as big of a wrestling fan as I use to, and don't really watch much in general, but I still find that inner wrestling enthusiast come out when the old 'this is fake; it's stupid' mentality comes up from outsiders.

The fact that wrestling is 'fake' (though I don't really like that wording) is actually something that appeals to me. Why some people enjoy watching boxing or UFC or whatever more than wrestling because the fighters are trying to hurt each other legitimately is beyond me. I'm not entertained more because people start bleeding or get legitimately hurt or injured, the fact that wrestlers try to keep each other relatively safe while performing is a plus to me. As long as they make an effort to have it look real, of course. I don't want to see too much stuff like David Taylor throwing himself to the ground 5 seconds before a latter would have hit him...

  2. To me, it seemed that he was attacking Miz and Cena, and since they will likely be in the main event, it's a perfect way to start setting up for MIz vs Cena with Rock as the ref.

That would make sense. It should probably be noted that I haven't seen RAW yet myself, and that I'm basing my comments on what I've read in this thread and on wrestling news sites about what The Rock said in his promo.

  3. My first thoughts and still my thoughts were he was refering to Wrestling in general. What I mean by this is when he left he seemed to try and seperate his "real" person from "The Rock" persona, and went solely by his real name to go forward seriously as an actor. Bassically trying to lose the connection... However, as time went by we seen more and more of his movie's being promoted during WWE programming. I don't know why, but it seemed like he didn't want that at first, but over a few years become more confortable with it (although I know it wasn't solely his decision... he can't tell the movie companies when and how they promote the movies).

But when he left WWE, he did *not* go by his real name in an attempt to disconnect himself from wrestling... on the contrary, he kept using "The Rock" as his name in movie credits when he first started out in Hollywood. The change to "Dwayne Johnson" came later.

  4. I don't get it. The Rock has said numerous times that he won't ever wrestle again. It's not even 2 weeks since the last interview I read with him where he said that. So untill The Rock vs. John Cena is actually properly announced as a real match (and not some stupid face off in words), I won't hold my breath.

But even if they do wrestle, I fear a bit that The Rock will put John Cena over as a sort of "passing of the torch"... and I really really don't want to see Cena beat The Rock.

At any rate, this should make sure they'll get a ****load of sales for Wrestlemania - with or without Sting. Though Sting being my all-time favourite wrestler, I'd still love to see that.

  5. After having watched the Royal Rumble last night, I decided to youtube a couple of Alberto Del Rio matches (as I had seen him in pictures only prior to the Rumble). While he didn't really impress me hugely wrestling-wise in the few select matches I saw, I'd say his awesome facial expressions alone makes him deserve to headline Wrestlemania. To make it really interesting, though, they'd probably have to let Rey win the belt from Edge first.
  6. I'd heard about this incident a few times but didn't know there was footage of it around. Stumbled upon it while researching for the 1987 mod. The guy who rings in is Barry Orton, Bob Orton Jr's brother and Randy Orton's nephew. Not the nicest subject but I thought it an interesting vid.....

I loved the part when Vince called Bruno Sammartino on hating him because he fired his son. Not that I'm taking Vince's side here, but Bruno wasn't exactly the most objective choice to bring in as an expert...

  7. I just read that Jeff Hardy almost lost the TNA Title at the airport. I mean I know he is the champion and all but they should really have someone more responsible carrying the title around the country. Better yet just leave it in Orlando. I think the last person I would want carrying around the title from airport to airport is the drug addled Jeff Hardy. Heck he might try to pawn the thing for money.

He probably just had it in his luggage which is not uncommon for an airline to misplace from time to time.

Sure, Jeff is a drughead - but do we know this was actually his fault?

  8. Finally..and the best example is the most recent..the odd pacing. IMO they saved the 'Cena gets fired twist' when Cena gave that promo where he led the crowd in cheers against him. Great stuff. Great emotion. And then he just shows up on RAW the very next week??? Why? Why not have him off TV for a few weeks, with the Nexus members crowing about it and scoring wins over big names using heelish tactics? And then bring him back slowly..mysterious attacks in the backstage area, odd messages, subtlety...before he just waltzes in the ring and forces a situation where he fights for his WWE career?

Had this happened during the 90's, they would have done this. But these days, there doesn't seem to be any patience in wrestling... it all has to happen with an insane pace. The fact that the Nexus storyline has even been around this long is a huge shocker to me. I would have expected Barrett to have both won and lost the title again months ago.

  9. Even though I am a huge fan of Macho Man and he could be seen as a real threat and was a great worker, his "lack of success" kind of hinders his shot for the greatest.

Lack of success? He's a 4 times WCW World Heavyweight Champion and a 2 times WWF World Heavyweight Champion. And he won both World War 3 and King of The Ring during his career as well.

I'd say he was pretty successfull, though I agree that he was a little too often given backseat roles to make way for far less impressive performers.

  10. I do know Heyman has gone on record as saying he loves Joe and could do big things with him so it will be interesting to see if Heyman does come on if Joe's push is changed.

I think a mouthpiece like Heyman could do wonders for Joe. It's a shame they don't really use him, I really like him. I've always been fond of big men who could actually wrestle, like Vader and Bam Bam.

  11. WARNING: This video is NOT for children if you're offended or grossed out don't watch it.

This is what Paul spends his free time doing, just completely killing TNA. The WWE too for that matter.

This video is fine for all ages and just as funny.

Hilarious stuff, especially the second one. I had no idea the guy was that funny. :D

I try not to get involved with 'who is a good wrestler' or 'who has good psychology' debates, because so much of it is subjective and down to taste.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> This is true. I'm not saying that Orton has great wrestling skills or anything (though I personally don't see the huge fuss about his supposed lack of skills, but nevermind that), I'm just saying that I'm always entertained by him. I've actually liked him ever since I first saw him (which was back when he just turned babyface for the first time and feuded with Evolution), and I think he has constantly gotten better ever since. Especially during the last year or so.</p><p> </p><p> Granted, I don't watch a lot of wrestling these days - I just catch a bit here and there.</p>

I'm calling it:)</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> But why not just have him join them at last RAW? It really makes no storyline sense to have him bother gathering a team to betray first. I really can't see in any way how it would fit Cena's character to do so, either.</p><p> </p><p> Besides, the storyline needs to have revealed some kind of mastermind behind it all. And that cannot logically be Cena, since he kept being a target of theirs.</p>
  14. Since when has the brand split ment anything when a storyline means someone has to be on both shows?

For instance, Batista didn't need the tag titles to show up on raw for a solid month and a half before he was officially made a raw superstar.

I agree that a a Jericho/Miz win is far more likely, but I don't really think failure to get ahold of the tag titles means they can't screw with big show.

In fact, you could have big show cost them the match and do some creative booking things to get them over there storyline wise.

Most likely they will beat the hart's, but i don't think it's out of the realm of possibility the story will go a different way.

I agree with you in principle, but Miz and Jericho kayfabe being unable to go to Smackdown and mess with Big Show is the whole reason for them teaming up. Miz said directly "but Big Show is on Smackdown and we're both on RAW, so there's nothing we can do about it" to which Jericho replied that he "had a plan" or something like that - so, to me at least, it's pretty clear that the plan is for them to become unified tag champs so they can go on both brands as they please.

Also, the Batista thing can be kayfabe explained by him being Vince McMahon's henchman and thus allowed greater freedom than most (though it of course does not explain why people like Undertaker and Shawn Michaels also did it).

  15. Hopefully, they will then have the hart Dynasty retain at OVer the Limit (though i'm split on that. I think they like the belts on the hart's, but since the belt pretty much = a way around the brand restriction without the effort of a storyline excuse, it's got to be tempting to have two great promo guys with them in Miz and Jericho)

Jericho and Miz needs the belts as a way to go to Smackdown so they can mess with Big Show, that's the whole purpose of their alliance. I see no way for the Hart Dynasty to retain.
