  1. Cormier could make 205 easily if he did it correctly. He didn't make the Olympics because he was unprofessional & for years he wasn't cutting weight the proper way & unfortunately it caught up with him at the worse possible time. It was 100% his fault & he pissed alot of people off for doing it & he even cost the US wrestling coach his job at the time.
  2. Or it could just be that Dana White is trying to promote Glover Teixeira! I mean saying things like 'nobody wants to fight this guy' is just a promoter being a promoter.
  3. I don't think much of Brandon Vera's relevance in MMA these days, but at this point of his career with all of his injuries etc. Shogun is not a guy who fills me with confidence. I expect him to win, but i don't think he'll steamroll Vera. Also not many people were calling Shogun vs. (Thiago) Silva a mismatch, infact alot of people, including myself where looking forward to that fight.. But lets not forget that Vera won all of the striking exchanges with Silva when they fought, but of course he got dominated on the ground. Thats not going to happen with Shogun, It will be a stand-up fight, & Vera is still a very good striker.

Strikeforce is about playing out this new contract so Showtime doesn't sue "FORZA" for breach of contract... that's the only thing Strikeforce is about these days. If they have "names" or "talent" it's in the UFC or will be shortly. They're just throwing Showtime the worst possible fights that can still hit 400k viewers on Showtime to keep SHO subscribers (see:me) paying 13.99 a month. <p> </p><p> Strikeforce isn't a real company, it's just a zombified corpse the UFC is using to keep guys from Bellator/One FC.</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> I'm not sure whether this is true or not, but i've heard that Zuffa is making money off of the Strikeforce/Showtime deal. It's apparently a good deal for them which is why Dana White has been saying recently that Strikeforce isn't going anywhere. However even if thats not true, the Showtime deal runs until the end of 2013 so Strikeforce is here to stay for awhile yet.</p><p> </p><p> Having said that, i've actually enjoyed the events they have been puttin on recently, although it does suck to see such a highly ranked fighter like Gil Melendez being forced to stay in a promotion with limited opposition.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Makhai" data-cite="Makhai" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="26660" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>I'm hopeful in 2013 Strikeforce will be folded and Invicta FC will takeover the Showtime slot</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> When the whole Strikeforce/Showtime deal was up for negotiation last year, i heard that Zuffa wanted to keep Strikeforce around in order to keep ProElite off of Showtime, so yeah i think if they do end up ending the deal then i expect ProElite to get the Showtime contract.</p><p> </p><p> Haven't saw anything about there second event, but surely HDNet will show Invicta FC 2?</p>

I remember Brad having a scoop on that a month or 2 ago.</p><p> </p><p> Jardine also on the card. With Healy, Stinson & Lawler I guess the card will be pretty decent at the very least. Not p4p-wise, but decent. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> It does need a women's fight. A whole bunch of nothing.</p><p> </p><p> If WMMA taught me anything, it's to keep your division flowing by creating some 'current' to keep things moving. No fights = no evolution. Luckily that new Invicta promotion seems to be doing the job for them.</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Yeah Marquardt was with BAMMA but he asked for his release as there was issues with them not being able to afford his contract or something along those lines. Was always a strange deal to me anyway, glad he's out of it!</p><p> </p><p> I'm surprised they have Gracie/Jardine on the main card & not Healy/Hirota.. Way more relevant fight but i guess Jardine still has that 'big name'. </p><p> </p><p> If/when Rousey gets past Kaufman, there's the 'superfight' with Cyborg who is due back in December & she has apparently been working hard during her suspension to come back at 135. However Strikeforce need to get out there & sign Sara McMann! Rousey vs. McMann would be a HUGE megafight! 2 Olympic medalists in there respective fields fighting for a world title in MMA would be unbelievable for the sport & if done right, could be a big draw.</p>
  6. Cormier wrestled in college at 184lbs then in freestyle at 211lbs so there's no reason why he cannot make 205. However he must do it the correct way! The problem Cormier had with the kidney failure was that for a long time he was letting his weight fluctuate in great numbers, then the day before weigh-ins he would attempt to cut 20+ pounds of water weight.. which ultimately led to his body shutting down causing his kidneys to fail. Had Cormier done things the proper way, like gradually losing body fat over the course of a training camp then leaving himself around 7-8lbs to cut the day before the weigh-in, then he would've been fine. But for far too long he choose to avoid cutting body fat & instead decided to lose massive amounts of water weight the day before competition, which is extremely dangerous! If DC does things properly & cuts body fat naturally then he will be just fine to make 205, but drastically cutting water weight is not something he can ever do again.
  7. Really? If Velasquez is healthy then i don't expect him to lose to Dos Santos tbh! JDS has shown great takedown defense so far but really, who has tried to take him down? Gonzaga? Nelson? Mir? A beating up & gassed Shane Carwin? If Dos Santos can stop Velasquez taking him down, i'll be very surprised. I'm also interested to see how things plan out when Cormier comes over to the UFC.. He might just be the best of them all.
  8. You also can't forget that Velasquez was badly injured going into that fight & would've pulled out if it wasn't for the whole big FOX debut. I know JDS was injured as well but Cain's injury severely hampered his usual gameplan.
  9. Regardless of whether Dana likes him or not, Mayhem is 0-3 in his UFC career & has offered next to nothing in all 3 fights... He deserves to be cut.
  10. He just doesn't like Josh Barnett! Everytime he is asked about Barnett coming over to the UFC he always avoids the question, so i don't think we'll ever see him back in the UFC, which is a shame as he's clearly one of the best heavyweights in the world. Velasquez/Dos Santos 2 is the only fight that makes sense imo. Cain got caught by one punch, he was hardly decimated! It may look that way on paper with the fight lasting just 64 seconds, but if Cain Velasquez & Junior Dos Santos were to fight another 10 times, how many times out of those 10 would JDS repeat history & finish Cain in 64 seconds? I would say 1 at the most! Infact i would pick Cain to beat him more times than not over 10 fights, so i think the fight makes 100% sense. & lets be honest who else is out there? Werdum?
  11. Those bids were fake, the highest legit bid is $5
  12. It wouldn't shock me at all if Viacom signed Rampage after his deal with the UFC is done & they have some sort of "superfight" in Bellator with TNA being used to build it up every week. We know Rampage loves pro-wrestling & these 2 have legit dislike towards each other so i could see it happening. Personally i would love to see the fight itself but i wouldn't be a big fan of them using a professional wrestling company to set it up as i already despise the comparisons that some people make between the two but at the end of the day what is actually out there for Rampage once he's gone from the UFC? I've heard Rampage vs. Fedor could happen in Japan which would be pretty awesome but other than that there's really not much out there for him.
  13. Your right King Mo has got the amatuer wrestling credentials to get by to a certain degree, however according to Dave Meltzer it took Kurt Angle 1 year & Brock Lesnar 18 months training in WWE's developmental schools before they were deemed good enough to be put on TV so realistically there's no way that King Mo is going to be able to go straight to TNA & hold his own in the ring. Personally i feel disappointed in the deal. It was only a few months ago that King Mo said he hoped to sign with the UFC & wanted big fights & big paychecks so to me it feels like he's throwing away his potential in MMA just so he can try his hand at professional wrestling & fighting in Bellator is just part of the package! I'm sure he'll be getting paid well & i really hope the exposure on TNA will attract new viewers to Bellator but i personally don't feel any anticipation towards seeing King Mo face guys like Travis Wiuff, Christian M'Pumbu or Rich Hale.
  14. Whilst i agree that the whole enviroment in which it took place was wrong & should never have been allowed to happen, but the media were completely wrong in the way they wrote the story as there was no 'fighting' involved at all, they were grappling & the kid who was apparently crying wasn't upset because he got hurt, he was upset because he lost. There was definitely a story to be made out of the whole thing because like you said there was alot of things that should never have been allowed to happen, however the media went down the wrong road with the story.
  15. The problem i have is not with the term itself as such, but more with the way it portrays the sport of MMA. The term "cagefighting" immediately gives MMA a terrible reputation with people who don't know anything about it. It's like the whole outcry about the kids who were grappling inside a cage.. It was absolutely blowing out of proportion, but because they were in a cage it was portrayed as brutal & barbaric. It's like Makhai said, the media here have never bothered to research what the sport is all about. It's easy to draw conclusions from seeing it for the first time but if some of the sports detractors actually understood the values of what Martial Arts was raised upon then the sport might just break through to the next level. It's not even just here in the UK, As the New York MMA bill is dead for another year, which is just incredible when you think of how many states regulate the sport.
  16. Dominick Cruz out potentially 10-15 months with torn ACL Was really looking forward to that fight as well.. Hope he feels fast as he's an amazing fighter.
  17. The sport won't go anywhere in the UK until the media start to appreciate & respect the sport. It really REALLY bothers me when i see the uneducated media calling the sport "cage fighting".. Just that term alone gives the sport a terrible reputation when in reality these are some of the finest athletes in any sport period! I would love anyone who talks down about MMA or thinks it's "barbaric" to go watch someone like Georges St. Pierre train for his fights.. They would instantly develop a whole new level of respect for the sport & the fighters.
  18. Whilst in general i agree with this, however Overeem got off extremely lightly.. The fact that he tried to "get out of town" as soon as the press conference was finished so he could avoid the random testing tells it's own story!
  19. Even if he was to show that prescription, he should, & would still be handed a suspension. King Mo i believe proved that his positive test was down to a supplement he took that contained a banned substance that he did not know about... The commission just don't care about these excuses. Fighters should know better.
  20. As crazy as it may sound, i think Jones has surpassed Anderson & deserve's to be ranked ahead of him in the mythical P4P rankings. Silva has had an incredible run, but Jones has literally faced a murderer's row of opponents in his run as champion & dare i say it, he has done it with ease. I don't think Jones is unbeatable at 205, because nobody is unbeatable, but i think the true test of his talents will be when he makes the inevitable move up to heavyweight, because unlike at 205 where he literally looks like he's in a different weight class to some of those guys, Jones would look like a stick standing across the octagon from Dos Santos, Overeem or Mir. I've no idea what they will do with Hominick, he's definitely not getting cut because he's an exciting fighter but will likely be on the prelims next. Long road back to the top for him though. The winner of Barao/Menjivar is likely going to get the next title shot after Faber, although if Menjivar was to beat Barao (albeit unlikely) then they may overlook him & go with McDonald, but yeah likely he will have to win a few more. Don't think he beats Cruz though.
  21. Brendan Schaub made a huge mistake in thinking that Rothwell was badly hurt.. If he had watched Big Ben fight before then he would've known that his chin is made of granite! Schaub should've stayed patient & just picked Rothwell apart with his speed. Glad Big Ben won thought, he's tough as nails & seems like a cool guy.
  22. John Morgan of MMAJunkie mentioned on twitter that the Lombard contract is considerably longer than a regular UFC contract. He even put it out there that it may have deliberately been made that long by the UFC due to the fact that they knew Bellator officials were going to get there hands on it, as we all know about the previous (or perhaps still ongoing?) lawsuit Zuffa filed against Bellator.
  23. As much as i would definitely prefer to watch a UFC event over any football match, that doesn't include my own team, i would put money on the French cup final doing more viewers than the UFC event would've done had it been live, although i obviously have no proof of that. The Pickett/Page fight getting cut was a joke! Not only was it the best fight on the card but they even showed Pickett warming up then cut straight to Johnson/Maguire.
  24. As much as it sucked having to wait longer than expected for the event to start, you can't expect ESPN to stop showing the French Cup Final, which went into extra time, so they can put on a UFC event which had already happened & they were airing via tape-delay. Also TUF is a live show, & the Iaquinta fight went into a sudden death round, causing the show to run over it's normal timeslot.. again thats hardly ESPN's fault. Always a good idea to record the program afterwards to make sure this doesn't happen. Having said that, i agree that ESPN hasn't been great (failing to show several events including Velasquez/Dos Santos) & i'm looking forward to seeing what happens with the new deal over here & hopefully whoever they sign with commits to showing all the UFC programming. Although i'm not sure what Dana White's obsession is with getting on SKY, sure they have great coverage of sporting events, but it's not exactly a widely available channel.. The most watched show on Sky Sports last year was football with 2.5 million viewers.. The most popular sport in the UK & in a primetime slot. I don't expect UFC events to attract that much more viewers on Sky Sports than they do on ESPN to be honest.
  25. There's several MMA fighters who have went on record to say over 50% of fighters are using steroids.. Sadly they may not be wrong! Random testing is a must for the future of the sport.
