Thanks so much, this is really helpful!</p><p> </p><p> So as far as Roman Reigns, his last appearance in WWE was Feb 29th (with one house show on March 1st), so regardless of what Vince promoted, he was gone. Now, one could make the argument that if the pandemic never happened, then Roman wouldn’t have left, but the problem with that is Roman always insisted that the reason he left was not related to the pandemic. So, whether he should be available, or not, kinda comes down to whether you think he’s a liar <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />. But I think it seems fair to include a mention of the situation somewhere early and obvious, so anyone who wants to play with him available can delete the hiatus in the editor.</p><p> </p><p> To my eyes, Mustata Ali’s gimmick is definitely that he is A Guy, and Borne never wrestled again in WWE <em>or</em> NXT so I’ll leave her in her last reported position, but other than that I agree with everything you pointed out! I know some people believe that since Roman was booed as a face he wasn’t over, and while I disagree with that, the truth of TEW is that the WWE needs people to be over at a certain level in order to not crash to medium within six months.</p><p> </p><p> As for Cain, was a huge draw in MMA, and his only heavily promoted matches in pro wrestling sold out, but with big asterisks. One of those matches was at TripleMania, and the other at Crown Jewel. Now the way WWE was using him, was he on his way to becoming a non draw? Yes. But I think that his pop reflects that, from where he started, as if he had beaten Brock at Crown Jewel he would have been in the high 80s across the board.</p><p> </p><p> The philosophy of this mod is that Rhonda Rousey was a transcendent star brought in to give the rub to Becky Lynch. That plan makes no sense if they’re at the same level, so she’s gotta be higher.</p><p> </p><p> The Lawler catch was a really good one, and he’s been smacked down appropriately!</p>
  2. Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky both have the proud ethnic gimmick as well

Lol, sorry, I probably made their characters a year ago, and I totally forgot the joke until now. They're proudly Southern Californian, which I thought was funny application of the old TEW standard Proud Ethnic. But given that even *I* didn't get that when you mentioned it to me at first, I'll change it.

Ehn, they can't all be gold.

Penelope Ford's contract only allows her to be a manager

Taz's contract only allows him to do colour commentary

Billy Gunn's contract doesn't allow him to wrestle.

Excalibur's contract doesn't allow him to be an announcer

This one is a bit weird as they are all set to have those jobs in their AEW contracts. Would you be willing to pop into the editor and see if their AEW contracts match what you're seeing in your game?

MJF has an egomaniac personality. This could be correct but I've never heard him being difficult to work with. In the rare instances he's not in character he comes across as a decent guy. This kinda thing is totally opinion though.

No, I'm in full agreement here. My general philosophy was, if I didn't personally know a wrestler's personality, then I went with whatever was in the database I started with. But I just did a bunch of research on MJF just now, and there's no evidence he would behave the way an Egomaniac would. Fixed!

Really enjoying my game so far though.

Thank you! And thanks for letting me know about this stuff, super helpful.

  3. Really liking how this looks so far. I was messing around with the AEW roster and noticed a couple things I wasn't sure if they were correct or not.

Adam Page starts with no gimmick

Darby Allin's gimmick is Cool Dude

Christopher Daniels gimmick is proud ethnic

I'll let you know if I find anything else that sticks out to me.

This is fantastic feedback, thanks so much! That all should (and will) be corrected!

  4. Excellent looking, and can't wait to dig in later.

Rad! I'd love to hear your feedback~

Does it mean you've tried to replicate the distribution of stats? Like if say 5% of C-Verse workers have a brawling of 70+, you'd try to do the same for your mod? Or am I way off?

Not that off at all! You're totally on it, with trying to replicate the distribution of stats. Although my methodology was a bit different than looking at percentages, it probably ended up in a similar place to if I had approached it that way, while leaving more room for my unquenchable need to express my bevy of opinions.

To help illustrate what I'm talking about, let's look at the physical condition of worker's heads at start of game. I've sorted it by debut date on the grounds that, for most people, wrestling is likely to be the worst thing you do to your head. So if you start wrestling at 18, your head will be in much worse condition come 25 than if you had spent that time learning card magic. Not that you can't do both. But a 27 year old who gets into wrestling should be in better condition than a 22 year old who's been wrestling for four years.

    gPh8OBI.jpg

As you can see, the C-Verse tends to agree with me, showing a pretty linear line from your debut date to your impending chronic headaches. Actually, for me the big surprise was how healthy wrestlers tended to be at the end of their careers.

When you look at my data you can see that the people at the beginning of their careers tend to be in worse shape than people starting out in the C-Verse. The reason for that is the amount of wrestlers who start in IRL wrestling after doing other things which are bad for your brain: MMA, american football, boxing, etc.

Those workers have a much worse starting condition than wrestlers with no contact sports background (in my db), and there's a fair amount of them. So for me, the trick was to balance representing those worker's handicap, while still keeping the world at large roughly in line with what will keep matches good enough, and retirements at an appropriate level. If I'd try to fit it in by percentage, then Tyson Fury would have entered pro wrestling with, at worst, a head condition of 80.

So instead, I set the workers to what made sense to me (based on where older wrestlers in the C-Verse ended up) and just made sure that the general trend moved in a comparable way to the default data. An example of a measuring stick that I used, that can be seen here, is that the trendline for head condition in the CV crosses the threshold of 90 in 2013, in my database it crosses at the end of 2014, meaning that, while individual wrestlers may have their idiosyncratic situations, careers in general followed a similar path to that laid by the CV.

There are other measuring sticks beyond that one to keep each of these stats within what I felt were the core parameters implied by the CV, but that's an example of how I approached it.

  5. This is the beta release of the 2020: Before The Fall modification of Total Extreme Wrestling.

What The **** Even Is This

Glad you asked! Its a mod set at the beginning of March, 2020, right before the major wrestling companies stopped having fans in the buildings and in some cases changed their story lines drastically to accommodate a new reality. Only this time, due to the magic of TEW not being a Global Pandemic Simulator, and so having no other option, the pandemic never happened.

It is built off the Landxx Modern Day Real World Mod, with changes to the Agers, Alter Egos, Angles, Broadcasters, Broadcasting Deals, Chemistry, Companies, Company Relationships, Contracts, End of Year Awards, Excursions, Pics and Free Pics, Graduates, Hall of Immortals, Halls of Fame, Injuries, Match Types, Media Groups, Narrative, Power 500, Scandals, Stables, Starting Absences, Starting Injuries, Starting Morale, Starting Storylines, Tag Teams, Titles, Title Lineages, Venues, Worker Names, Worker Relationships, plain old Workers, and more. Which is a bad way of saying that I've touched nearly every aspect of this database, and it is not a quick and easy release.

What Was/Is Your Mod Building Philosophy

Wow, what a deep question! You're really smart! My approach for this was to learn from the C-Verse, and then apply my own take on things, more or less within the parameters set by the base game.

What The **** Does That Mean

Good question! What I did was export the C-Verse into Access, transfer it over into Excel and then look at the shape of the data, and try to be informed by that as I distributed skills, popularities, physical condition and all that jazz. Here's an example, this is how the Brawling stat is distributed in the C-Verse for Active Male Wrestlers, sorted by Brawl and by Age:

    YEjWgVZ.jpg

So some things come out of that analysis that I wouldn't have expected: Barely anyone starts the game with a Brawl over 80, it doesn't diminish more than 10ish points on average as people age, and the vast majority of the distribution is in the middle, with relatively few workers at the ends of the spectrum. This informed my skill distribution shown here:

    GbyZ9FK.jpg

They're not twins, but they're clearly related.

So This Is Just The C-Verse With Real Wrestler's Names

No... No, look, it's really not. There's no wrestler that would be same as a worker in the C-Verse, except by occasional coincidence, the promotions aren't the same, its really nothing like the default database except that the macro skill distributions (and stuff like that) learned at the C-Verse's knee.

This has some real benefits! The world is very stable. It has functioned admirably through dozens of 8-12 year sims, and the one 20 year sim I did worked great. Older wrestlers tend to move down the P500 except in some rare cases, while younger wrestlers rise up to replace them.

Ok, Sounds Good, Can't Wait To Play IMPACT

Oh. Right. Well, ok so one thing you should know, is that while the world works really, really well on a macro sense, on a fed by fed basis, I only really got around to the major companies. WWE, AEW, NJPW, NXT, AAA, NXT UK, and CMLL have been tested, and are functional ... but anything past that may, or may not, need tweeking. But hey! That's why we're in Beta! Please give me your thoughts, couched in flowery praise, or a hint of reverence, and I will definitely be making adjustments.

So, This Isn't Really Done, Is It

Art is never completed, only abandoned. Honestly, its completely playable, I just can't vouch for smaller feds. To my knowledge there's a bunch of future workers I need to add, but outside of that it should be within spitting distance of tearing off its Beta tag and running naked through the streets, drunk on its new found freedom and gin. Maybe I'll add some narratives. Either way my partner banned me from working on it another minute if I didn't release it first, so here we are.

Who Do I Blame For This Catastrophe

Me! With help from Bizzo2k who was returning the favor for the help I gave them with their legendary A New Trust: 1934 mod (which you absolutely should play). Also Landxx for giving me permission to use his mod as a base, and Fleisch/Southside_Hitman as Landxx used their mods in turn. And lastly Joemurphy, NoLegsGaming, and Sabin357 for pic contributions! If anyone finds pics of their that made their way into the picture pack that they're not credited for, please let me know so I can credit you! Also, if you'd like to have your pics removed from the pack, just let me know and I'm on it!

Now stop reading this and play test it for me.

  6. I just want to add my voice to this. Ten times seems enough to weed out random main eventers, but 12 to 15 would be fine.

I also agree that individuals, not just units, should be eligible. Jerishow, as an example, should be considered for TTOTY even though they only existed for a year. In 2009 they had 33 matches according to cagematch.net, meeting a ten (or even 25) match criteria, but would definitely be an 'individual' team in TEW terms.

I do lot of sims into the future to test my mod, and my heart sinks every time when MJF and Jon Moxley, or AJ Styles and Big E win TTOTY. From an emotional stand point, I'd almost rather not have the award if it never produces actual tag teams as the winners.

  7. That's not how the legacy feature works - see the help file, under Workers > Legacies for a detailed description. (The short version is that the retirement of the original is not the trigger mechanism for a new person to take the mask.)

Thanks so much! I totally get that a worker has a chance to create a legacy once a year, regardless of retirement status, between 30 and 55.

What threw me off was, in the example above, Ultimo Dragon does regenerate, he just doesn't do so as a legacy.

Does that mean his pic is then unavailable and he is ineligible to have a legacy from that point on?

With regards to my other question about about passing on a mask with a younger picture, here's my current work around:

1 Set the default picture to be of the young masked wrestler

2 Set an alter ego to be the old masked wrestler, as All But and obscure promotion (if you choose no restrictions the game ads the default personal at 50%)

3 Set an ager for the age the turn next with the old wrestler's pic

That way the game will use the pic in any companies they are hired in, and within a year use the old pic universally, but the regen will look young.

Does anyone have a simpler work around?

  8. Hey! So quick mechanics question I'm a bit stumped on.

In my mod I have Ultimo Dragon set to regenerate As A Legacy. But when I sim the db, when he regenerates, he doesn't do so with the Ultimo Dragon name. What am I doing wrong? I tested it in CV and the Legacy name system works fine there.

There is only one copy of that picture in the pics folder, and its definitely not tagged in the Free Pics section of the editor. I've investigated further, and it seems to be happening for all legacy regens. Which implies to me that it's not a setting in the individual worker, but something on a higher level blocking the all regens from adopting the legacy names. :( I mean it could be something I've set wrong on all wrestlers, but I don't know what that would be.

    Ultimo1.png

    Ultimo2.png

    Ultimo3.png

Second, related question, that's a bit hard to sim: Is there any way (possibly using agers) to get regens to use a younger pic of a wrestler?

    Thanks!

  9. So, my April 2004 mod is really starting to take shape - but I did want some opinions/insight. A good road agent is determined by Experience, psychology and respect in TEW 2020.

In the C-Verse road agents seem to all be retired wrestlers (which makes sense as the experience stat is tied to in ring experience).

In the real world however, guys without much actual in ring experience have performed the task. Vince McMahon, Paul Heyman, Tim White, etc. How is everyone handling this? Are you just giving arbitrary experience and psychology to these examples?

My personal philosophy as I build my mod is that Vince McMahon just isn't a road agent. He's a booker, and an owner, but my understanding is that he doesn't actually sit down with people and work out their matches. The few times a year he might get hands on with road agenting (wrestlemania main events etc) he tends to be bad at it, imo, so the handicap of having less ring experience is warranted. Also, his occasional forays into match plotting would be most accurately represented in game by someone clicking Road Agent: By Role and changing it to All so that they can select a guest producer. In the end its mostly cosmetic with him, because the AI will likely use someone better, and a human player will either be in Vince's spot, or Vince will be their boss, so either way he won't spend much time in the role.

As for Heyman and White, there should be a penalty on their Road Agenting for never actually spending much time working. Heyman compensates for his lack of experience by being a booking genius*, but serves more in the booking and on screen capacity anyway. And Tim White was a producer as a sort of make-good when his refereeing career ended due to injury, not because he was particularly good at it. That he would be a weak road agent under those circumstances is understandable.

*At least that's what he told me.

  10. Two questions that have come up while working on a mod:

1 - in the Dev Journal, Adam says the skill drip feed "stops cheap 'power gaming' tactics (such as spamming dark matches to give a worker multiple boosts) because there's a limit to how much a worker can learn at a time."

Does anyone know roughly what that limit is? Does that mean that there's no point in putting a young wrestler in a second match in a week for training purposes? Or does this only mean that more than one match a day gets capped?

2 - And there's no way anyone knows this, but... when I was working on the 1934 Mod I made a note for myself, and now on the current mod I'm trying to decipher it. With regards to how the game itself works, I wrote:

"Puro (CAP at 30), Hardcore (CAP at 30), Aerial (CAP at 45)"

This was in the notes on game mechanics, which means I must have got this info from a dev journal somewhere, or maybe an veteran poster, but I have *no idea what it means* now.

    I am very disorganized.

    Help?

  11. Here's a weird request that I doubt anyone will take up, BUT if any of you are just letting your TEW sit there at night, would anyone mind running a long term sim on the CVerse?

I want to see how many wrestlers end up with 90+ pop nationally, how many wrestlers that are in the top 500 in year one are still there in year ten, and a bunch of other stuff like that. I already know some stuff (like, 4% of companies tend to die a year, and other nerdy stuff) but I could always use more data!

I'd run it myself, but I'm long term simming my mod and you can't install TEW on two different machines :/

No biggie if no one wants to do that, but I figured I'd ask!

  12. Like in the older version not sure exact which version or I would download it prior to it changing but using the rectangle or square box and u know u get the numbers for ex.. 512x512...etc in the older versions it would let me highlight the selected spot change it to 150x150 and bang copy and paste onto the background...but for whatever reason now this system i can't seem to get it to work with the newer versions instead of just cropping the highlighted part it crops the whole picture...so it seems the rectangle box doesn't work like it use to or am I missing something that should be maybe clicked on...thank you for your reply appreciate it as I wanna get back into cutting and making pictures for this game.

Hrm, I do it differently, so I'm not sure if your method still works or not. What I do is go to Image > Canvas Size > then change the width/height to be equal to each other in an area slightly larger than I want, if you then click drag on the preview you can move the picture so that the portion you want is in the frame. After I hit Resize, I repeat the process, but now the preview in Canvas Size is zoomed in, so I can get the exact framing I want.

After I've got my square I go Image > Scale Image and you can set the width/height to 150x150 (or in my case 142x142 so I can add a 4x4 border) and click Scale.

If you're not as particular as I am, you can skip the second step, and just get the square you want in the first go, but you usually still need to scale it down.

Then you've got your pick and you can Ctrl C/Ctrl V it over your background, or add the background as a new layer.

  13. So I'm working on this mod that will eventually get released, when it does, all the pics for workers will be from a hodge podge of different pic packs. I don't even really know where they all came from.

Whats the protocol on giving credit for pic packs? Is there a way to find out what pics belong to what packs? Or is it better to just pick one pack for a release (even if I don't use it for my personal games) to avoid being rude?

    Thanks!

  14. How did you export the database? Or in other words: How did you get all the worker stat numbers into a program to calculate this?

You need MS Access installed, so first get that if you don't already have it, then:

Start a Game > Options > Create MDB File (next one under Turn To Database) > Create File > then in explorer navigate to your Save Games in your GDS folder > Under The Save Game folder for that save you'll now see a folder which reads MDBFiles, go into that > Open the newly created MDB file > On the left hand list of the MDB file scroll down to workers and double click it > Click the grid > Ctrl +A > Ctrl +C > Open Excel (or Open or Lib Sheets or whatever ya got) > Click your grid in excel > Right Click > Paste Special > select Text > Ok!

Then you'll have a spreadsheet with all the wold's worker data on it! You'll prob want to delete the Profile column immediately so the massses of text don't make it look all bad. But you can slice and dice from there!

  15. What are people's approaches to determining worker skills in historical/real world mods? I want to start working on a database in the pre-1970s era and I'm at a loss for how to approach adding workers and filling out all their skills/stats. Does anyone have a method or resource they use?

So, what I've done for my March 2020 mod that's almost done, is export the CVerse, quartile it, and then try and have my world match its distribution for the important stats. For example, Psychology:

    Psy.jpg

To give you an example of how I broke it down for myself, here's the summary of the CV stats for Active Male Wrestlers:

    Active-Men.jpg

    It sims really nicely.

Now my turn to ask a question! The aforementioned mod has a nagging problem I'm trying to fix, which is that a chunk of my American secondary feds go out of business after 15 months or so, and I'm not sure why.

My guess is that I need to balance the popularity of their workers to the fed pop so they can afford salaries? But I'm really not sure. If anyone else has fixed a similar problem, please let me know!

Edit: Oof, those pics are small. I've never been good at posting photos on this forum. Can someone point me to a tutorial? ehn
