1. So here is where my world is at with popularity trying to create some clear-lines between similar companies:

    WWE 80/80/70 (USA/UK/Japan)

    NJPW 75/40 (Japan/USA)

    ---------------------------------------------

CMLL 60/10 (Mexico/USA) (I may lower these as this feel artificially high, though it may be accurate in Mexico)

    AAA 60/10 (Mexico/USA)

AEW 60/50 (South East, rest of the USA)

NXT 55/50 (South East, rest of the USA)

    ---------------------------------------------

Impact 47/45/30 (South East/Ontario/Rest of US and Canada)

    ROH 45/40/30/15 (Tri-State/Mid-East/Rest of USA/Japan)

    ---------------------------------------------

NWA 38/25 (Home region/Rest of US)

    MLW 35/25/15 (Home region/Rest of US/Mexico)

    ---------------------------------------------

PWG 30/EVOLVE 30 (Niche Indy Promotions; Home region only)

    ---------------------------------------------

0-15 Majority of companies that have a small but loyal following.

Does this match the consensus on where pop should be? Do we have definite understanding of where these numbers put us compared to pre-covid attendance, ratings, and ppv numbers?

  2. Hey all, sorry if this has been answered somewhere but I just can't find it.

What are the major factors that go into a match rating for the AI? Is it exactly the same as for a player?

I'm trying to get a mod I'm working on to sim ok, but a national company keeps falling to cult (medium) within months. I've slowly been buffing their main eventers, figuring eventually the workers will hit an equilibrium where where they're all good enough to have matches with each other that keep show ratings above 77, but no luck. Meanwhile those main eventers are starting to dominate the Power 500, which wasn't the plan.

Concerned, I clicked on some of their failed main events, and the in-ring performances of the workers are actually quite high. Often in the 90s, but still pulling segment ratings in the 70s. I'm not sure what to tweak to get their match ratings consistently at a national level :(

Specs from the game attached. Thank you!

  3. The Hawaiian Sands, Weekly Wrestling Sheet

Ed Ratsch spoke to reporters today, December 28th, 1933, saying, "My eyes have been opened. I have seen the future. It is a Christmas Miracle." and declaring that a new era of professional level wrestling would be beginning at The Pan-Pacific Athletic Club. The Club spokesman said that he had already gone to the elusive, and highly regarded, owner of the P-PAC, Professor Henry Okazaki, and The Professor had approved his new vision.

    8MacCek.jpgwgjJ653.jpg

    Professor Okazaki and Ed Ratsch

Ratsch seemed to imply an important announcement would occur at the next All Star Wrestling event scheduled for just a few days from now, headlined by Henry "King" Tut taking on "The Monkey Man" Jacques Manuel. It will be a distinct clash of styles as Manuel's elusive, agile technique will be pitted against the flamboyant power of the former boxer!

    h1KCYpu.jpgHVtvWLu.jpg

King Tut vs Jacques Manuel is set for All Star Wrestling

My sources on the inside say that old Eddie Ratsch has been highly animated behind the scenes and truly believes the coming century of American Wrestling starts in Honolulu this year.

But if anyone asks, dear readers, you didn't hear it from me. Let's just keep this one between ourselves, silent as the shoreline sands, and as always: On the QT.

  4. I don't doubt that Londos was extremely popular, but I do think you have to keep the game mechanics in mind so that Small promotions can actually sign him. Balancing something like this is a really difficult task, especially considering the game's limitations.

You and me, we're on the same page! But so far Small promotions being unable to afford him aren't the problem. In my long term sims, you end up with a bunch of small promotions with between 5 to 50 mil in the bank sitting pretty, and Londos has constant work.

From a human player perspective, you would only ever be bringing in Londos for a one shot, unless you're a big time company.

Like you alluded to, it's impossible to exactly simulate reality, so one has to make choices. There's only one 90+ pop wrestler in the game atm, and he's the biggest draw in wrestling history, so I'd need a real collapse in long term sims in terms of his sitting around unemployed for long periods, or bankrupting every fed he worked for, in order to nerf him.

One more suggestion: I'd be careful with how you guys deploy the Movie Star trait. At least in TEW16, this could lead to some huge popularity boosts and should really be reserved for characters who are literally stars -- ie, leading men/women. Pretty soon you'll see a guy like Arthur De Kuh as one of the most popular workers in America. A guy like King Kong Kashey who did uncredited work as shirtless monsters in a handful of movies really shouldn't be getting broad boosts like that.

This is real. I'm not totally sure how OP the movie star trait is yet, I'm doing a ten year sim every night, and I'm watching for how the pops play out. The issue is, again, you do want your Abe Kashey's to be unavailable for periods of time while they go film a movie. And you do want that exposure to translate into some level of a pop boost, keeping in mind that TV didn't exist, so being in a film did expose you to more people, and any competent promoter would tie him to the film when pushing his next match. It's just a question of how much pop is gained and where you draw the line. This is definitely being watched.

I'm also curious about the decision to go with Classic Balanced for Product vs something like Catch Wrestling. Feels too early to have these companies be running angles.

Anyway, just some random feedback as I mess around with this beauty. Hope it helps!

I completely agree. I would like to see a greater diversity of products as well. Catch, Golden Age, Pseudo Sport, Silver Age, and Wrestling As Sport all probably have a place.

Keep in mind the dominant style in America is Toots' "Slam Bang Western", which doesn't have an exact replica in the prescribed products, and is the bridge between Catch and Silver Age.

Products will definitely be looked at!

  5. Awesome work! The presentation and attention to detail here is great.

After tooling around a bit, I do think you might want to have a look at worker popularity. A guy like Jim Londos is set to be 90 across America. From a historical standpoint, I don't think any wrestlers achieved that level of national notoriety during this time (this would be approaching 80s era Hogan popularity). I just don't feel it was possible to get there without TV. I'm no expert, though! Mechanically, having his pop set that high means he won't sign with any of the companies in the game. 80 US pop appears to be the cut-off for Small promotions.

Hope that doesn't come off as nitpicky. Great works; thanks for making it.

Hey! You and I are on the same page here (I'm helping Biz with the Mod). I'm plucking away at an update that will more regionalize the popularity of the workers. That should make things more realistic and add a greater diversity to game play, since it won't be beneficial to hire the exact same workers regardless of where you start. Bugs, and company balances take priority, but it is coming! It's also slow going because I'm combing through each wrestler's history to see where they were active and where they weren't, and that takes time.

A couple things to keep in mind however, is that Londos will still, likely, be universally popular throughout America when this update comes out (with possible exceptions for PR and HI). The reason for this is wrestling was covered in all the major papers, talked about in the sports section of radio news broadcasts, and footage of the biggest bouts were shown before films on a national basis. In those papers, broadcasts and pre-film clips, Londos was always a major feature. What happened in the East dominated the conversation at that (and seemingly all) time(s), and Londos wasn't just the most famous wrestler in New York, he was the most famous wrestler in New York coming off of a triumphant return after pretty high profile split - during which he had gone on a national tour of his own. This made him the most famous wrestler in America at the absolute peak of his interest to dinner parties.

In 1933 alone, he personally traveled to every territory in America (save two, NW/NE) [Edit, and he was in New England in '32] as well Ontario and Quebec. This doesn't mean that he didn't perform in the North West or New England, it just means I can't find a record of it, and again I remind you that's only the immediately prior year. At this stage of the game, Jim Londos didn't come to your town unless he was sure he was going to be drawing a big, big crowd.

With all that said, I agree there should be some variance in his popularity, but think spillover numbers would vastly understate his appeal. From a modding perspective, the question becomes, did Jim Londos not travel to the pacific north west because if he had he wouldn't have been able to draw enough of crowd to warrant it? Or was it the usual reason people don't come here, which is that it is the forest, and people don't want to go out of their way to be in a forest. This is where things become more art than science. I feel pretty confident that if Londos had traveled to PNW, his notoriety would have preceded him, and he would have drawn a pretty impressive gate.

Other things to remember are that the older legends, (I just did Stecher last night so he's on my mind) also would have been talked about on the radio, written about in the papers, and shown before the movies and talkies for twenty years prior. The Rolling Stones are not talked about weekly on national TV, but they still sell out every concert they hold (in non-apocalyptic times) because they have been exposed for decades prior and, comparably, constantly tour. Joe Stecher travelled to every single territory in America (except PR) over the previous decade. There's just no way to perceive him as anything but a national star.

But these exceptions apply to Londos, Stecher, Lewis... and maybe Steinke, DeGlane and Browning, I haven't looked yet, but essentially nobody else, although there were journeymen who maintained a level of popularity all across the US, but that's at a lower level.

Nah I think you have a point.

In the 80's Hogan and the like were a part of pop culture. Same with WWF and WCW in the late 90's.

Nobody in the early century considered wrestling as part of the same culture.

According to Meltzer, Jim Londos was a bigger draw than Hulk Hogan ever was. His assessment is based on conversations with historians, and actual gates.

Although the ambiguities that result in comparing time periods, that Biz refers to, obviously exist.

  8. There is no Mass Edit for Contract Start Date in Contracts.

This is a problem because the beta was Jan to Mar only. So if you spent the Beta time working on a mod that started in Dec, when the full game came out and you moved it back to Dec of the prior year, you get 800+ critical errors because all the contracts start in the January AFTER the game begins.

There is no way to mass edit those contracts back a month so it must be done by hand.

Is there anyway that could get added?

    Thank you so much!

  10. Just wanted to add my voice to the "reduce the size of the Database Maker's Whiteboard, please" calls.

I'm biased, as I make all my notes in external programs, and I totally get that some people will not do that. However, if the whiteboard was half as big, and in that new space there was a "preview" of the highlighted worker/company/whatever you were on (or most recently selected if you're selecting multiples) that would be super useful and save people a lot of clicking. You could fit the Picture, Biography, Born/Debut dates, Gender, Game Status, and a few other commonly referred to fields in that spot.

Or if this were to be a dream world, the option to select a full Whiteboard OR preview as an option. Then maybe you could fit a summary of the workers skills.

Also rooting for the return of Track Worker Progress! That was definitely one of the most satisfying parts of the game for me!

  11. It's a one-way street unfortunately, you can't convert any edits you make to the MDB file back into a database or save game, because the game makes changes to the file to change it into a format that makes sense and is readable. In other words, the MDB file created for public use is a version of, but not exactly the same as, the one the game uses for saves and databases. It's structured differently and therefore isn't interchangeable.

It's still super useful! In the editor, if I mark an item for mass edit, then search for the next item that I want to include, I lose the selection mark on the first item. Is there a way, besides scrolling, to mark a few items from a long list for mass edit?

  12. No - create MDB file on options screen of the actual game (just below 'turn to database' on that screen.)

So, this is an actual dream in terms of my ability to analyze the mod, thank you so much! Like, the fact that I can just get an access listing of the CVerse stats to look at how they're distributed is game changing!

Can I actually transfer edits I make into the mod file? Or is this just helpful for analyzing the dataset, and changes still need to be made through the editor?

  13.

Super weird - for the first one, I can't see a way to filter by stat, but would starting a game and using the create MDB file option make things at least a little quicker?

May be worth playing around with! Is that the "Turn To Database" option in the editor?

Thanks!

  14. Hey! So, I'm working on a mod and I'm using the power 500 to get a rough idea how how the game views the workers we're making. One worker just isn't showing up on the list. In his achievements it shows him as winning Veteran Wrestler of the Year at game start, but no place in the 500.

I've tried changing his age, contracts, roles and business settings. What else could block a worker from appearing in the P500? His stats are quite high.

    Thanks!

  15. Hey! The game looks great!

The context of this question is that I'm helping my friend with a mod based in the 1930s, so we're looking for things such as the Aerial/Flashiness and Hardcore stats to be downplayed BUT still want the game to function as intended.

I'd like clarification on how skills effect the match rating calculation. The Handbook says:

Brawling: This is a measure to work a brawl-style match. It is used to calc a worker's in-ring perf in most match types.

Puroresu: It is used to calc a worker's in-ring perf in most match types. In most cases it is effectively an 'alternate Brawling' in that the higher of the two values is used in any calc.

Technical: It is used to calc a worker's in-ring perf in most match types, but not those that are specifically about brawling or high flying.

Aerial: It is used to calc a worker's in-ring performance in most match types.

    1) Ok, so, match styles are no longer a thing and are, instead, addressed in match aims (on a side note, having a section on match aims in the handbook would be absolutely awesome! I searched forever, so if I missed it, please tell me where it is!). This means I assume when Brawling says "brawl-style" match, they mean any match which does *not* include the match aims Hardcore, Deathmatch, High Spots, Technical Masterclass, Eye Candy, or Comedy. Is that correct?

    2) If the handbook reads that the better of Brawl or Puro is used in most match types, but does not read that the better of Brawl/Technical (for example) is used, then that implies that the better of Brawl/Puro/Technical is not what is used in most match types. Since Tech and Aer are used in most matches, that means it must be either a weighted or non-weighted average of Brawl or Puro + Technical + Aerial (modified by flashiness). How close did I come?

This is important because if I make a game world where everybody has an aerial stat of 0-30 then I'm reducing match ratings for everyone if it's an average, where as I'm not if the match rating is based on the wrestler's highest of the three skills.

  16. I only ever used Freestyle Gimmicks anyway, so this changes makes a lot of sense to me. From a game perspective, it only seems to matter if A) They're suited, B) They pulled it off, and C) If it's grown stale. Everything else is roleplay. It sounds great!

Will need some kind of pre-named gimmick pack for mod makers though, it would seem, since making a new gimmick for every worker in a database doesn't seem viable.
