Half of the tournament's first round took place, along with a couple of intriguing tag matches that will set up some of the action later tonight in Night 2.</p><p> </p><p> Most of the wrestlers who also work in either AAA or CMLL in Mexico weren't in attendance, with a couple of notable exceptions in Bandido and the returning Fénix. But a new duo in PWG made up for some of the lack of established star power with a couple of matches that were some of the best in recent BOLA first-round memory.</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="FacdRdD.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/FacdRdD.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="eHZhMsx.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/eHZhMsx.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> The show, as usual, opened with <strong>Excalibur</strong> giving an introductory promo and revealing the first round matchups for Night 2... Rey Horus vs. Tony Deppen, Flamita vs. Jeff Cobb, Black Taurus vs. Pentagon Jr., Aramis vs. Bandido, Dragon Lee vs. Laredo Kid and Mick Moretti vs. WARHORSE, the latter of which would first team up in tag action. </p><p> </p><p> Toward the end of his remarks, <strong>Orange Cassidy</strong> unexpectedly came down and rolled into the ring. When Excalibur asked him what he was doing, Cassidy barely lifted his left pointer finger — indicating that he was in the first match of the night. The freshly squeezed one operates on his own time. <em>(56)</em></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="kvvZAAD.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/kvvZAAD.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="pvdDQcd.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/pvdDQcd.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="eHZhMsx.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/eHZhMsx.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Orange Cassidy defeated Caveman Ugg in 9:57 with a Superman Punch</strong></p><p> </p><p> This match had some of the usual Orange Cassidy antics to start, and a guy whose character is that he's an actual caveman from prehistoric times was the perfect partner for those. Cassidy must have picked up some pointers from Jurassic Express on how to deal with guys like Ugg. Both competitors got their big moments in this one, and it didn't overstay its welcome. The crowd ate it up. It was a lighthearted yet effective start for what is a tournament usually filled with serious action.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Rating: *** 1/2</strong> <em>(59)</em></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="8LxAzn0.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/8LxAzn0.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="pvdDQcd.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/pvdDQcd.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="EbhXYvQ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/EbhXYvQ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Trey Miguel defeated Alex Zayne in 12:41 with a Meteora</strong></p><p> </p><p> These two high-flyers put on a show here. This match was 100 mph from the opening bell, with spot after spot after spot. Both guys really went for it, pulling out some crazy stuff to the outside of the ring. It's somewhat surprising that they escaped without any injuries. Miguel picked up another win here, giving the solo Rascal some real momentum into the rest of BOLA weekend.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Rating: *** 1/2</strong> <em>(60)</em></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="PRXOQpH.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/PRXOQpH.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="pvdDQcd.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/pvdDQcd.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="NJUrNfq.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/NJUrNfq.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Brody King defeated JD Drake in 11:55 with an All-Seeing Eye (Samoan Driver)</strong></p><p> </p><p> Alright, so I felt like I might have been a little too harsh on Drake from <em>KOBE</em>. Well... it happened again. This was a really rough performance from him, even worse than the last one. King didn't exactly deliver a five-star worthy performance, but it was hard for these two to get going. After a couple of good bouts to start, this one let the air out of the crowd.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Rating: ** 3/4</strong> <em>(46)</em></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="wO9LOFo.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wO9LOFo.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="FmFeDDM.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/FmFeDDM.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="pvdDQcd.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/pvdDQcd.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="dRhQMmH.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/dRhQMmH.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="jXXt1f2.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/jXXt1f2.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>The VeloCities (Jude London and Paris de Silva) defeated Mick Moretti & WARHORSE in 13:13 when London used a Slingblade on WARHORSE</strong></p><p> </p><p> WARHORSE (all caps, yes) has been an indy darling in recent months, with his successful campaign to wrestle Cody Rhodes for the TNT title in AEW and a current run as IWTV's Independent Wrestling champion. He's a polarizing character among fans, but he delivered a solid debut in PWG. While the VeloCities put in another strong performance together, the story of the match was Moretti pulling back his hand from a WARHORSE tag. Moretti laughed to himself as he walked away from the ring and exited, leaving his teammate and upcoming opponent to take even more damage and, ultimately, the loss. They don't call him a scoundrel for nothing, folks.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Rating: *** 1/2</strong> <em>(58)</em></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="aLMI2Hc.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/aLMI2Hc.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="pvdDQcd.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/pvdDQcd.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="S9gaIUS.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/S9gaIUS.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Chris Hero defeated Brian Pillman Jr. in 15:50 with a Cyclone Kill (discus big boot)</strong></p><p> </p><p> The PWG faithful were happy to see Pillman make his debut, and he showed some flashes of potential greatness in this match. There were some consistency issues from him, but Hero was able to guide the match back into place each time. You could tell that if Pillman puts it all together, he could go pretty far. Hopefully for those of us in the LA area, that means more PWG matches. While no one will be surprised to see Hero move on in the tournament, Pillman earned a lot of respect with his first BOLA match.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Rating: *** 3/4</strong> <em>(65)</em></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="QgTPu1I.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/QgTPu1I.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="pvdDQcd.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/pvdDQcd.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="UAlDXOi.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/UAlDXOi.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Jonathan Gresham defeated Davey Boy Smith Jr. in 20:08 with a crucifix pin</strong></p><p> </p><p> Don't be surprised if this one ends up being the best match of the first round this year. Although Gresham and Smith are both known for their technical prowess, this one transitioned into a clash of styles in the second half. Gresham used his speed and flying ability to try to wear Smith out, while the bigger Smith resorted to some classic power strikes. All the near-falls were thrilling, and the finish —Gresham countering a potential slam into a lightning-fast crucifix pin — was a fitting punctuation mark.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Rating: ****</strong> <em>(71)</em></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="CqKiiq8.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/CqKiiq8.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="pvdDQcd.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/pvdDQcd.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="RsR6E2t.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/RsR6E2t.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Fénix defeated Rich Swann in 18:28 with a 450 Splash</strong></p><p> </p><p> The Gresham-Smith match proved to be a tough act to follow. There were high hopes for this match, and, like Dragon Lee-Flamita from <em>KOBE</em>, those in attendance were left a little bit wanting. Maybe Swann had some rust to knock off, being in a PWG ring for the first time in a while. Fénix shined, as we've come to expect, yet his timing with Swann was off throughout.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Rating: *** 1/2</strong> <em>(60)</em></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="pueOJw1.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/pueOJw1.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="cxltnW7.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/cxltnW7.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="pvdDQcd.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/pvdDQcd.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="TATl76W.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/TATl76W.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="RIUYd1d.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/RIUYd1d.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Bandido & Rey Horus defeated Jeff Cobb & Tony Deppen in 21:04 when Bandido used a 24 Plex (catching German suplex) on Deppen</strong></p><p> </p><p> This was a strong main event to close out the show, as all four competitors performed well and had their time to shine. Deppen and Horus are squaring off in the first round on Night 2, and their collisions during this tag match should bode well for that showdown. Cobb looked fired up to get another chance to tangle with Bandido after that title loss in December. The champion sent the fans home happy, though, with his 24 Plex catching the newcomer Deppen at the right time for the victory. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Rating: **** 1/4</strong> <em>(73)</em></p><p> </p><p> <div style="border-top:3px solid #000000;"></div></p><p> A lot of fans were wondering how PWG would follow up a strong return show, and this one hit the mark. The King-Drake match was the only real dud, as there were still some good moments to take away from the Fénix-Swann match. Pillman and Smith had two of the best losing BOLA debuts possible. The main event was a classic first-round closer to set the stage for Night 2, and it got the job done. <strong><em>(Show rating: 62)</em></strong></p><p> </p><p> You can preorder <a href="https://i.imgur.com/arcZ5pm.png" rel="external nofollow">DVDs and Blu-Rays</a> of Night 1 now at <a href="https://i.imgur.com/dHIiRsm.png" rel="external nofollow">PWG's Website</a>.</p><p> </p><p> As announced earlier this morning, here is the full card for Night 2 of the 2020 Battle of Los Angeles. A sellout crowd of 782 fans at the Globe Theatre in Los Angeles were treated to a PWG World Championship match, a return from a promotion icon and several strong undercard bouts.</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="FacdRdD.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/FacdRdD.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> The show opened with <strong>Excalibur</strong> giving an introductory promo. He started with a 10-bell salute for the late, great Kobe Bryant, a massive icon both in Los Angeles and the entire world for athletes, entertainers and fans alike. After a lengthy "KO-BE! KO-BE! KO-BE!" chant from the crowd in the Globe, Excalibur thanked everyone for supporting PWG during the shutdown and helping do their part in bringing it back on this Saturday night in August. <em>(51)</em></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="5vwPNjS.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/5vwPNjS.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="pvdDQcd.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/pvdDQcd.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="ODWtUpx.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ODWtUpx.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Laredo Kid defeated Artemis Spencer in 10:03 with a Laredo 630</strong></p><p> </p><p> This was a fun start to the show, with two ring veterans who can both fly and take to the mat putting on a good opener for the fans. Laredo Kid, who is currently the World Cruiserweight champion for AAA in Mexico, had a great sequence at the end where he put away Spencer with a couple of strong kicks and his signature 630 senton from the top rope.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Rating: *** 1/2</strong> <em>(61)</em></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="gBpmPkF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/gBpmPkF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="cxltnW7.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/cxltnW7.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="pvdDQcd.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/pvdDQcd.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="wO9LOFo.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wO9LOFo.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="FmFeDDM.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/FmFeDDM.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>The VeloCities (Jude London & Paris de Silva) defeated Aramis & Rey Horus in 12:02 when de Silva used a Shooting Star Press on Aramis</strong></p><p> </p><p> By far the best match of the first half of KOBE, The VeloCities scored a huge victory in the tag team division over Aramis & Rey Horus, who looked destined to challenge for The Rascalz' titles soon. There was a lot of great offense from both sides in this one. The young Australian duo more than held their own against the experienced Horus and the always exciting Aramis. London and de Silva are slowly becoming fan favorites inside PWG with their array of impressive moves. At the end, London hit his Jude Buster DDT in his own corner, with de Silva sneaking a tag in during his partner's move up the turnbuckle. De Silva then quickly hit a shooting star press to seal the deal. Fun match, fun finish.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Rating: *** 3/4</strong> <em>(67)</em></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="884doJ7.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/884doJ7.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="pvdDQcd.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/pvdDQcd.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="PRXOQpH.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/PRXOQpH.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> <img alt="pvdDQcd.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/pvdDQcd.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="kvvZAAD.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/kvvZAAD.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="pvdDQcd.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/pvdDQcd.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="NJUrNfq.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/NJUrNfq.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Brody King defeated Black Taurus, Caveman Ugg and JD Drake in 11:55 with a Gonzo Bomb on Caveman Ugg</strong></p><p> </p><p> A lot of fans were excited for what PWG described as a "hoss fight" on Twitter during its match announcements. But this big-man brawl didn't really live up to the hype. King and Taurus put on the best performances. Miguel was the shining star here, getting in some of the best offense of the entire match. While his fellow Rascalz currently hold tag team gold, Miguel really solidified himself as someone who can make some noise as a singles competitor heading into BOLA. While Christian took the loss in this one after his win over the departing Jake Atlas last December, it's clear he and his trio has potential to make some longterm impact in PWG.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Rating: *** 1/2</strong> <em>(61)</em></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="eHZhMsx.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/eHZhMsx.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> A couple of minutes into the intermission at the halfway point of the show, <strong>Orange Cassidy</strong> wandered out of the curtain and down the walkway to the ring. After some halfhearted fist bumps with fans, he slowly rolled into the ring. He just sort of wandered around in there before deciding to go to sleep in the corner, waiting for his upcoming match. Cassidy, fresh off his big rematch victory over Chris Jericho in AEW, got huge pops from the crowd. Chants ranged from "FRESH-LY SQUEEZED!" to "HE'S GONNA NAP! That quickly woke Cassidy up, who turned on his high-speed offense for a flurry of moves that left Moretti scrambling out of the ring. I would have liked to have seen more out of Moretti in this one, but Cassidy got the job done as the breakout star who the fans were thrilled to see back in a PWG ring.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Rating: *** 1/2</strong> <em>(59)</em></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="7lohcA7.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/7lohcA7.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="pvdDQcd.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/pvdDQcd.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="FbjdWq1.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/FbjdWq1.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Dragon Lee defeated Flamita in 16:37 with a Dragon Driver</strong></p><p> </p><p> This was an odd one. Don't get me wrong, it was a strong match and one of the best of the entire show. But Dragon Lee has put out plenty of bangers recently, and Flamita felt like the perfect opponent to generate another one. Yet these two didn't seem to be quite on the same page at times, bringing down the overall quality. I would have bet money that these two would have clicked well again. Bandido and Gresham had a great final fall at the <em>Battle of Los Angeles Final</em> last year, and another full match between these two delivered as expected. Gresham looked really close to submitting Bandido on several occasions, and "The Octopus" was able to wriggle his way out of a few top-rope teases of the Revolution Fly. This match might have dragged on a little too long, as it drifted at times. However, when Bandido was finally able to hit his signature moonsault fallaway slam on Gresham and get the pin, the crowd was electric. While the roster has gone through quite a bit of change in recent years, there's still plenty of great in-ring talent to put together both a strong title scene and an exciting undercard. Fans will remember this one for the Kobe Bryant tributes, the Hero return and the great main event, but this was a solid top-to-bottom card with only a few issues. <strong><em>(Show rating: 63)</em></strong></p><p> </p><p> You can preorder <a href="https://i.imgur.com/qNiAfUc.png" rel="external nofollow">DVDs and Blu Rays</a> of the event now at <a href="https://i.imgur.com/Di6I0A2.png" rel="external nofollow">PWG's Website</a>.</p><p> </p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></div></p></div><p></p>
  13. Whoa. Blown away by the number of predictions so far. Really appreciate them all. I'll figure out a way to give out a prize or some sort of involvement for the best pickers. I'm going to most likely post the writeup of KOBE sometime tomorrow afternoon or evening, so consider this a 16-plus hour warning for anyone else who wants to hop on. Now, let's get to some responses. he's one of the ones on the roster I know the least about, but that will change Appreciate it! I don't think I've posted in your LU diary yet (whoops), but it's becoming one of my favorite reads on the board. Excellent work, and glad to have you aboard for this. h*ck yeah, brother My dude, thank you. Love your work on here, and I read your PWG one multiple times before I pulled the trigger on this one. I might snag a few graphics from there since you graciously gave me the go-ahead, I like the way you did the Twitter announcements... so I might go that direction moving forward. Appreciate it! Like I said in the intro post, I wouldn't call myself super knowledgable about PWG, but I love pretty much everything I know about them. Looking forward to running a save and a dynasty where world domination isn't the chief goal.

On Sunday, the company took to Twitter again, this time to announce the full card for the August 22 show at the Globe Theatre in Los Angeles. The card is mostly the same as the original card for KOBE in March, with a couple of exceptions. First, a mystery opponent will replace David Starr for Jeff Cobb. Second, Artemis Spencer will take on Laredo Kid, ensuring that all wrestlers currently known to be contracted to PWG will be on the card for its return show. In the main event, Jonathan Gresham will go toe-to-toe with Bandido for the PWG World Championship. This will be Bandido's first shot at defending the belt, as he won it from Cobb at The Makings of a Varsity Athlete last December. Gresham was the runner-up to Bandido in the 2019 Battle of Los Angeles final. Elsewhere on the card, Dragon Lee looks to continue his globe-spanning hot streak in a matchup against longtime lucha foe Flamita. The GCW team of Blake Christian, Tony Deppen and Alex Zayne will look to make their stamp on PWG by facing off against the full Rascalz trio of Trey Miguel, Zachary Wentz and Dezmond Xavier. Aramis and Rey Horus will face The VeloCities tag team of Jude London and Paris da Silva in a matchup that is sure to have an impact on the tag title picture. In addition to a four-way showdown of the most massive competitors on the roster, those at the Globe will also be able to watch Orange Cassidy, who has become one of AEW's fastest-rising stars during PWG's pandemic-induced hiatus, wrestle another crowd favorite in the form of the mischievous Mick Moretti. PWG's KOBE will take place at the Globe Theatre in Los Angeles on August 22, starting at 8 p.m. A limited number of tickets are scheduled to go on sale this Friday, as ones that were purchased for the original March date will be honored. Here is the full lineup for KOBE. Post your predictions and thoughts on the card in the comments below. </div>
  17. <div style="padding: 10px; border: 8px solid #0f431d; margin:10px;background: #FFFFFF; max-width:60%; ";"> Pro Wrestling Guerrilla is both an innovator and a throwback. Founded in 2003 by six Southern California wrestlers, PWG has been home to some of — as their website proudly proclaims — "the very best professional wrestling in the United States." In 2016, Dave Meltzer took it a step further and hailed PWG as "the best wrestling in North America." The lists of their former champions read like a who's who of current wrestling royalty: Daniel Bryan, Kenny Omega, Kevin Owens, AJ Styles, Cesaro, Sami Zayn, Adam Cole, Ricochet, PAC, The Young Bucks, Lucha Bros, Zack Sabre Jr. and WALTER have all held honors in the SoCal promotion. While its blend of fast-paced action and tongue-in-cheek comedy is as modern as American wrestling gets, PWG operates as something of an old-school territory. It's still owned and operated by two of the original six — Super Dragon and Excalibur. PWG developed a reputation of putting on dream indie matches and helping launch the careers of future world-renowned stars while sticking to their traditions. Almost all of their shows have either been at the American Legion Hall in Reseda or, more recently, the Globe Theatre in Los Angeles. PWG does not livestream their shows, and on-demand replays take at least a month to go online. The reasoning behind that seemingly outdated strategy is two-fold — a) PWG often books wrestlers who work at bigger companies (these days, mostly ROH and NJPW) that have clauses in their contracts that keep them from wrestling on TV or iPPV elsewhere and b) PWG has a popular and rather lucrative DVD and blu-ray business that has kept them going strong for nearly two decades. In 2020, PWG is at an interesting time in its history. The wrestling scene in the United States is deep and exciting, with AEW — led by several famous PWG alumni and even a few current workers — establishing a new alternative to WWE. ROH, Impact, MLW and NWA have weekly programming as well. Companies such as GCW, Beyond and others have made waves on the independent scene recently. This landscape has altered PWG's roster and schedule, and many have felt like the Golden State promotion has taken a step back. Some have criticized PWG's character development and rivalry-building, which were both hallmarks of its heyday. The COVID-19 shutdown gave PWG a time to reset and refocus its efforts for the future. Thanks to a sudden and inexplicable elimination of the virus that was nothing short of miraculous, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla will be able to open the doors of the Globe Theatre again in August with a comeback show that will be viewed as the beginning of a new era for the company. It's time for the King of the Indies to reclaim its throne. </div> <div style="padding: 10px; border: 8px solid #0f431d; margin:10px;background: #FFFFFF; max-width:60%; ";"> A Little Bit of the Backstory It's been a while since I've written a dynasty or played TEW at all, but getting back in with the ThunderVerse and joining the GDS Discord... plus a lot of new free time thanks to my current job situation... had me wanting to give it another shot. I've never really played a RW game before, and I'm by no means an expert on PWG. I'm a dude who lives on the other side of the country. My exposure and basic knowledge have been built on what I've read or watched on various platforms in the past. But I think PWG is a really intriguing game, especially with its current state, connections to AEW/NJPW/ROH and others, and its no-broadcaster ways. (Let's see how long I can stick to all that.) I've gotten a few months into this save and have had a blast, so I'm looking forward to putting this out there. I'm not going to go super in-depth with show write-ups... I've got a different plan for how to go about those... and my graphics skills aren't nearly as polished as a bunch of people on here. But we'll see what I can come up with by messing around with a few things. Shoutouts: Questlove for his excellent RWC mod and some of the back and forth we've had on the Discord, Dalton for being a sounding board through the planning process and getting me set up with some formatting, parkereddy for the genius that is WVPW and all the fun conversations in the last few weeks, to E384910RA for telling me how to spell hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia and MHero for giving me some time to try something new while ThunderVerse 2020 continues to be built. </div>
