1. For you Xbox Live users out there, you can download the UFC App and watch UFC 141 for free
2. I don't jest at all, what would you have wanted better from a business and promotional stand point? Melendez getting a finish is the only clear thing. How did SF F anything up? You can't bash a fight (or a show) because the referee ALMOST screwed up. He didn't screw up the Mousassi fight, and thats what matters=success. The stand up was bad but by no means ruined the fight, so we got a good fight, once again=succes. The Cyborg stoppage was a few punches early but was no means an out cry. She was getting pounded and would have continued to get pounded. The last thing you want is Cyborg who is a "beastly" woman pound a feminine looking woman into the mat to the point of her being in a scary KO'd, not moving, bloodied up coma. The referee isn't controlled by SF so once again, how did SF F it up? Instead of looking at it from Strikefroce's stand point you seem to be overreacting to the typical MMA Referee conundrum. SF doesn't have alot (if anything) to work with and put on a darn good successful show. If you had to grade it from an actual show stand point and not a name value point (as obviously they can't compete there) the show would get a 4/5, and if you think this show was bad, I would hate to see what you say when there are mulitple bad ref jobs which is common in the UFC, or when you talk for 50 minutes and get 2 minutes of fighting in an hour, or dull boring fights or title fights that are dull and the champion gets criticized for not trying. Its a business that you can't control the final output and they had no recalls.
3. Honestly this was probably as close to a perfect show as SF could have hoped for. -Noons wins in an exciting back and forth push the pace fight -Mousassi/OSP had some good action and each man was on top -Cyborg destroys -Melendez wins clearly with lots of action, even if rounds 4+5 were a little lull since it was the more of the same and by then you figured neither guy would finish the other So overall good show, if SF can put "somewhat" name guys giving good action fights, I know I'll keep watching. Problem is long term sustainability (big surprise). For example, who does Melendez fight next? There is no one you could legimatley bill right now, Fodor/JZ should be a fight away. then Cyborg of course. They REALLY tried to make Rousey/Cyborg on the announce team but lets be honest, even if that fight happens in say April, who would the winner face? There is no one. LHW seems decent right now as there at least something to look forward to though. Not to continue the announce team bashing too much that always goes on but something I noticed tonight was there was ALOT of, how to say, unprofessionalism. "Do you need glasses"(numerous times), "Did you really just ask me that? Well the guy in the trailer told me to ask". It wasn't OVERBOARD, but watching the UFC, or NFL/MLB w/e games, the announcers just dont, and shouldn't, talk like that throughout the whole two hours. Focus on the fighters and the sport if you are trying to make little jokes or comments to fill space instead of mocking your production values.
4. Mauro still annoys me. And while Frank isn't bad his "lispyness" from his braces annoys me.
5. It was reported they will be on Facebook. The Fuel stuff won't start until next year as Spike is currently scheduled to show two of the "prelims" fights
6. For those that didn't see Gonzaga is back as a replacement. Curious what kind of contract he is getting, UFC doesn't usually do one fight deals but since this is in Brazil I wonder if they just reached for a brazilian HW willing to take the fight and Gonzaga agreed. I hope he is back full time and committed as I think he is very talented and has the tools to be a top 10, its just the mental side/commitment/game planning. His last UFC losses don't look too bad now either with JDS being champ, Carwin seconds from being champ, and Schaub who if he beat Nog would be one fight away from a title shot. He is only 32 and if he works more to get fights to the mat and uses his skills he should be able to beat most of your typical HW's who generally speaking rely on stand up. edit: NVM just saw its a four fight deal but too lazy to change it all lol
7. I didn't count Mousasi due to his non-exclusive nature, which is why I also included the non-exclusive as I have no idea what his DREAM contract is like. Larkin is a yes if he beats Mo, but I've watched all three of his challengers fights this year and due to his lack of "name" opponents and not dominating them, I don't think he could beat a top 15 UFC 205'er. Not saying he has no chance, but if I'm the UFC I would be okay with sending him to Bellator, DREAM, MFC, etc. first. I would have no problem briging him on for some fight night/TUF winner type battles though Not a big Noons fan, just never have been. In a stacked 155 and 170 division I don't see him ever being a UFC champ. Plus as I have openly admitted severly times I am a major Diaz bro's nuthugger and I remember how pissed I was at the doctor stoppage he won With that being said, he's marketable and if they wanted to bring him in to lose 3 times to Guillard/Miller/Lauzon I would understand My problem with the feeder league idea is this, do you send guys down? If you don't send guys down I don't have a big of problem with it. My view of it as a development league is that you would call up/send down guys which I don't like. BUT I do agree it is a good way for say, Larkin, to fight a Roger Gracie before going to the UFC.
8. True. Dana gets all the credit as being the UFC frontman, despite not having the final say and looking bad when things don't go right. After my post I went and read the Werdum vs. Nelson for 143...yeah...what was that about SF fighters staying with SF? Insert asterisk here?
9. Dana is full of it and you can't believe anything he says as 100%. Last week he said Belfort and Wanderlei weren't the TUF Brazil coaches and they were at the Vegas tryouts just by chance, less than a week later and he announces them as the coaches. So there is your most recent example. SF fighters WILL come over to the UFC. Maybe not a lot, maybe not all at once, but absolutely the viable ones once their contracts run out will sign with the UFC. I think a big, yet un-talked about, reason Strikeforce is being kept "alive" is because of Women's MMA. Dana and the UFC already take some heat for not offering it, which he has his reasons for and is by no means required to offer it. However SF is the best place for women to compete right now (exposure, money, etc), and if they killed that, they would be killing a big part of it. The whole development theory and idea is just stupid. If the UFC really wanted a developmental type system they could just create "UFC Challengers" and air it on FUEL TV, no sense in them needing a whole other promotion that not many outside the UFC fan circle even know exists. Also SF's talent pool in that last year has vastly dwindled and there isn't much worthy fighters to pick from. - Cormier - Big Foot - Werdum - Griggs - del Rosario could all be used to fill out the "weak" UFC HW division despite none being super solid legit contenders. Barnett is of course the big mystery card of will they or won't they let him in the UFC even if he wins the GP. - OSP - Cavalcante - Mo are the only real 205'ers I see worth giving a shot to. -Rockhold, -Kennedy - Jarcare are the only 185'ers worth picking -Woodley being the only 170 - Thomson - Melendez - Wilcox - Masvidal being the 155'ers. SF has some decent prospects but that's about it as far as come in and fighting a top 10 or 15 opponent in the UFC to see how good they really are but many of those names are pushing it. Also some of the top guys aren't SF exclusive making it complicated. At the beginning of the year SF's roster looked much much better I know I already bashed the Flyweights before but I would have liked to see the UFC introduce the Flyweight division to SF first, then SF would have Flyweights and Women's MMA giving you reasons to watch SF instead of the UFC while building those divisions for the eventual induction into the UFC
10. Great UFC card overall with some intense endings. You had the (tied) fastest KO in UFC history, Tito losing via "broken" ribs, Mir beating Nog via broken arm, and Jones putting Machida to sleep and dropping his ass. Very intense and good night overall. REALLY looking forward to Rashad/Jones as I just don't see how in the heck Davis would beat Jones. Also, I don't give a crap about 125, sorry. Big MMA fan and watch Bellator, DREAM, XFC, whatever's on HDNET but I just dont care about a big enough difference from 125-145. I cant take you seriously as a "worlds top fighter" when there are 7 other divisions who would beat you clearly on size alone (hence the major reason HW's draw so well and Cruz is always go main event). Also I would like to see them build some more 135 and 145 depth first as those divisions don't have many top contenders right now. Also while people make the midget jokes this will get dangerously close to reality. A midget is 4'10 or under, and youre going to have 5'0 guys fighting which is very close to literal midget fighting.
11. Yes bc seagal is god, btw auto correct made his name a pain!
12. Um so how do you explain Rashad? It's the inconsistentcy that ticks me off, not the firing or unfiring. Rashad gets off with a warning then Torres is not suspended or fined but fired.
13. watched the AOL interview and while I'm almost always on Dana side (compared to those who hate him on everything) he starts the interviewing saying "how I handle things is i get them on the phone and hear their explanatino" then he goes on to say he didn't talk to Miguel, that someone else did and what came back was that he did it as a joke. Ummm so why didn't you talk to him? Why not wait and talk to him tomorrow why the rush to fire him now? Then once again he talks about how he understands how Rashard did it and was just taking a jab at Penn state and get under Davis' skin. So to make it clear future UFC fighters, do NOT joke about rape. That is disturbing. HOWEVER if you are doing it to create a rivalry with your opponent and hype the fight, thumbs up.
14. WHOA! I call total BULL on this one. Torres quotes a show about a "rape van" and gets fired before getting to explain that it was just a quote. Rashad makes a joke about raping little kids DURING a press conference and it gets shrugged off!? I don't mean to argue about Rashad's comments like the above posters but the unequal treatment is TOTAL bull, TOTAL. Nothing should have happened to Torres.
15. The most disturbing part is that Rashad wants to have sex with Davis in the shower
16. Um how were Shields, Hardy, and Alves (3 out of last 4) badly damaged again and destroyed? Kos who got the worst, got his injury very early in the first at what point GSP decided "hey my opponent can't beat me now, I can just sit here and jab and not care for four more rounds then go party! Whoop whoop! Don't wanna risk a bruise when I got a Gatorade commercial tomorrow" What I recall is GSP being the one coming out with serious injuries in two of those fights (eye and hamstring), not his opponents. Defending fighters you like works better when you don't make things up and ignore what actually happened. I respect GSP as easily one of the most well rounded fighters but "destruction" is a bit much when its more like "sparring session" results.
17.

so if GSP vs. Diaz is at super bowl weekend, then when is Sonnen vs. Silva 2?

They haven't announced anything about Silva's next fight or opponent, thats all Chael hyping it up.

I'm not so sure GSP/Diaz will be a total wrestlefest. GSP hasn't been on the ground with a serious opponent that could threaten him there. Remember the Shields fight? He chose to stand with him. However Diaz clearly showed his stand up prowness last night so is that a great option for GSP? Its either test Diaz on the feet or test yourself in his guard, and being a Diaz nuthugger (at least I admit it) he is a legitimate threat with legitimate skills Strikeforce fighter or not.

Yes GSP can probably take him down and grind it out from side control but atleast Nick is a fighter and is active on the ground and feet unlike all of GSP recent opponents. Kos threw what, 20 punches after all his smack talk about knocking hiim out? Shields only attempted one real takedown from my account then chose to stand and get punched in the face like Kos, Hardy was content to get laid on.

18. I don't think many people buy Bisping as a threat to Silva at all. I know this is a big UK board so he has lots of support, but I've lived in Michigan, Chicago, and now Florida over the past three 1/2 years and none of the MMA people I know have ever liked him or thought him a real threat. Now yes, part of it is his UK vs. US TUF however what has he done to solidify himself as the #2 MW? Where is his epic win? Look at his latest winning streak. Miller, Akiyama, Rivera, who are all what? Top 30 being generous? Sorry, but you can't beat top 30 opponents consistently and claim to be number two. He had his chance against Hendo and got KTFO, then for being "the best MW striker" as this board likes to put, loses a prodominantly striking battle to Wandy who everyone else is knocking out and beating (including a man in front of him in line Leben). Come on. Beating Mayhem will just be another "meh" opponent who lost to a UFC 170 title contender. Put him against Munoz (after Leben) while Sonnen gets the title shot then Munoz/Bisping can fight for the title. I don't dislike Bisping (I'm quite neutral on him personally) but until he grows up and starts playing in the big leagues he can't gripe about a title shot, which he's been doing forever. He isn't a sell business wise or sport wise, his only selling point is to the British audience who to sell PPV's to, Oh Wait! The UK system doesn't buy PPV's! You get it as part of a TV package (which is awesome btw) So to recap. - Can't sell him sport wise as he has no name value/top opponent wins - Can't sell him business wise as the majority of his fans can't buy the PPV - Compared to Sonnen, who as BH said will do massive numbers plus a stadium show and has been the closest to beating him in what, 3 years? Hmmmmmm what to do?
19. Thanks, he just seemed really bitter about it in an interview talking about how bad he was treated. I have no problem with him not being in the UFC, was just curious if there was something more behind it that might have come out over there.
20. BH do you know the fallout of Neil Grove from the UFC? He seems really bitter about it.
21. It's actually quite brilliant if you want a takedown. When Jones started that way, with his hand down, Rampage couldn't do anything. Kick to the head? illegal. Lunging punch? takedown via jones. Shoot for a takedown? Jones is already lower giving him the takedown. Jones said he wanted the initial shot in his post interview so i thought it was smart, althought toolish. Obviously if he kept doing rampage would be prepared to sprawl but my guess is he was hoping Rampage would go for a big punch. edit: biggest surprise the puling guard. he knew he didnt have enough time to finish and clearly just did it for the heck of it to bug rampage but he could have gotten it, he had his knee and ankle locked just had to get rampages arm out.
22. I was a huge Jones fan as I've watched him since his UFC debut but I'm with Amp, since he's won the title he def. comes off as fake. It's like he's trying so hard not to come off as ****y, that it just doesn't seem genuine. However, I don't dislike him and I like him more than Rampage and Rashad (crybabies) and one thing no one can deny is Jones skills. If we wanted to be aggressive he could have taken out Rampage any way he wanted just like all his opponents. However Rashad will be a much tougher fight. I'm not a Rampge fight fan at all as his style is very boring and it all depends on his opponent. If he is fighting an aggressive fighter ala Jardine, Liddell, Wanderlei, he can counter punch them. If he fights someone smart ala Rashad, Forrest, Jones, he can't do anything. I guess its just his "I come to knock people out" attitude that bugs me since he doesn't, he comes to counter punch and throw hooks, thats it. is he talented and a great athlete? Hell yeah, but the Pride Rampage is not the Rampage of now. Rampage has a great highlight reel, but his actual UFC fights are boring. I thought it would be Jones via sub or a Rampage knockout off a spinning elbow/screw up. As for Rashad, he can *on paper* matches Jones' wrestling, strength, and speed, so we will see what happens. I don't like Rashad for his whining but I feel like he is well rounded and will be much tougher. If Jones tripes/screws up as much as he did tonight, I think Rashad will be all over him. We also may see Jones on bottom for the first time.
23. After two sloppy HW fights you can't help but question the UFC booking two main card fights between large fatty HW's (except Browne, but the 3 other def.) in Denver with the altitude. The politically correct answer is you don't think about those things when booking fights but this is a global entertainment platform, not booking the best fights possible in your neighborhood. Instead of highlighting the lighter weightclasses, we got two dull, non-crowd pleasing matches of Joe Rogan commenting about altitude. and yes, Gomi is old and small, but let me enjoy my Diaz nuthugging for a night edit: Also agree with Rogan that standing Hunt up at the end their was total bull. First he was active, and second its two large men that are tired, what do you think is going to happen when you stand them up? Fireworks? Come on. Should have just left them for the last minute and maybe Hunt ends it with hammer fists.
24. Woo go Nate! When he's aggressive he fights so much better. Great combinations followed up by his good ground game, thought he was gonna RNC Gomi first time they were down.
25. I watched Titan last night (yes my Friday's are that lame ) I think Rogers is really just the definition of a one trick pony, hands down. His KO of Arlovski is what he is living off and he has probably fallen physically, mentally, and financially. Remember he was still working at Wal-Mart when he started with Elite XC and a quick glance at his record shows he was all hype. He was competitive in the Fedor fight but I attribute that to his huge size advantage (and still got wicked KO'd) My gawd DREAM 17 was awesome! I'll wait to comment on any results as most probably won't watch it until tonight, but man you just can't beat Japanese production values and the Bantam tourney has some great guys, not to mention the rest of the stacked card. Felt bad for Voice and Frank as I'm sure they'd rather be in Japan than at Titan.
