Pre-Event Press Conference <div style="background-color:#ffffff;color:green;border-style:solid;border-width:5px";"> Harley Race says Terry Funk has been an old rival of his going all the way back to their battles across the central United States in the 70s and, given that, is prepared for whatever his title challenger throws his way. He knows his gameplan inside and out and will pick him apart for another successful title challenge. Terry Funk merely responds by saying Race hasn't seen everything in his arsenal just yet. Japan's been a whole new ballgame for him. Stan Hansen again states that Fuchi's victory over him in the Champion Carnival was a fluke and that he'll 'whip his ass' all over the newly-constructed Osaka-jo Hall at the Super Power Series finale. From there, it'll be time to take on the best and the baddest wrestlers the world has to offer. Masanobu Fuchi's time at the microphone is spent digging in the knife a little bit deeper on Hansen. Fuchi says that no matter what, the record will permanently show he bested Hansen. He goes on to state that he did it once, and he'll do it again and show to everyone that with hard work and determination, anything is possible. Genichiro Tenryu is puzzled as to what Atsushi Onita's deal has been as of late, but if he wants a fight, he's going to be in for one in Osaka. Tenryu is asked if beating Onita, who may be next in line for a shot at the PWF World Heavyweight Championship as he beat Harley Race in the Champion Carnival, will help improve his stock in the title rankings and he says it surely will. He says to keep in mind, however, that he was at one point in the year already #1 contender for the championship and he should already be considered to be up there in the rankings already. Atsushi Onita doesn't give the press much as he mostly just shrugs off questions with a smirk. </div>

Onita surprisingly held his own against Baba when they were the legal men, targeting the knees of the giant as he did in their Excite Series matchup. Baba was able to strike back with some overhead chops and some knees to the abdomen as he fought his way back to his feet. Just dodging a Big Boot attempt, Onita quickly tagged out to Ueda as Baba tagged out to Tenryu. Hara quickly tagged out to Hansen, who started to take the fight back towards his side. Hansen was taunting Fuchi while throwing Dory Jr. around the ring, prompting Fuchi to furiously throw a hand towards his partner, demanding he get the tag. Once Dory Jr. finally was able to get the tag off, Fuchi charged the ring and started lighting up Hansen with a barrage of strikes, but a headbutt from the NWA International Heavyweight Champion brought the match back in his favor. Terry was soon able to take over from his teammates as he started to wear down the NWA International Heavyweight champ. Once Hansen realized he could potentially be in jeopardy of losing his side of the match, he tagged out to Race - who circled around his challenger for the PWF World Heavyweight Championship. Several moments passed before the two men locked up as a spirited grappling battle ensued with neither man able to get an advantage over the other. Race was soon able to lock in several ground-based submissions on his title challenger that began to take Funk's strength away - prompting the younger Funk brother to tag out to his older brother. Race endured some of the punishment that Dory Jr. dished out, but he was soon able to fight his way back onto offense as he eventually put the older Funk brother away with a Piledriver before the 25-minute mark. He's certainly a valuable asset of the roster in-game as his match performances are outstanding and he can really go toe-to-toe with anybody. I'm really thankful he's not a freelancer in this save as I think I can get a lot of use out of him before he physically starts to go. (He's already mid-30s in-save.)

The move provided an opening to the challengers, however, as they started exchanging quick tags to keep their side fresh and to use as much double-team offense as they could. An attempt at a double-team clothesline on the now legal Dory resulted in a Dory charging both and taking them down with a running shoulder block. Dory began to pick apart Singh as Terry and Ueda's fight spilled out to the outside. The elder Funk brother came close on several occasions to finishing the match off with a Texas Cloverleaf, but Singh would find a way to kick Dory away each time. Meanwhile, on the outside, a steel chair came into play after Ueda continued biting into the eyebrow of Terry. A shot to the ribs of Terry left the younger brother crumpled on the outside as Ueda immediately slid into the ring to even the odds against Dory. Outnumbered, Dory became the victim of more double-team offense from the challengers as Kyohei Wada attempted to keep only one member of the challenging team in the ring at a time. The challengers finally relented as Ueda carried on as the legal man. Ueda was able to briefly lock Dory in to a Chickenwing Armlock as he cranked up the pressure for the short duration he had the hold on, but the champion was just able to break the hold by reaching the ropes. Terry, having recovered from the outside, managed to slip into the ring as he delivered a running forearm to knock Singh off of the apron as he then went face-to-face again with Ueda. A back-and-forth forearm/punching contest occurred with neither Terry or Ueda able to put the other man down. Ueda for a third time went to bite Terry on the eyebrow, but he was caught with a stiff forearm to the temple that Funk unleashed with all of his might. Neither team was able to really gain much in terms of momentum against the other for the first 10 minutes of the match, but The Funk Brothers' effectiveness as a team was able to tip the scales towards their side's favor. Terry Funk was never able to go against the PWF World Heavyweight Champion, Race, during his time in the ring, but he did make sure to taunt him while landing offense on Fuchi and Guerrero. Mouthing something towards the singles champion while holding Guerrero up for his finisher, Terry planted him with a Piledriver to pick up the win for his side. Rather than just shrug off Funk's taunts, Race stepped through the ropes after retrieving his championship belt and walked right up to the match's victor. Following some continued barbs thrown Race's way, Funk signalled with his hands that he was ready to take Race's prized belt away from him. Funk bested Race during their A Block match, and it was clear that he believed he could repeat that result in a match with higher stakes. Lockup in the center of the ring led to Baba transitioning to a rear waistlock as he tried to ground Hansen, but the Texan had none of it and quickly escaped. This pattern repeated itself several times between both competitors as neither was able to gain any sort of momentum or advantage on the other. Eventually, Hansen was able to go on the attack by tripping up Baba - proceeding to work on the giant's knees on the ground. The strategy proved to be effective for a bit, as Baba seemed to lightly favoring one of his knees when he stood back up. Hansen charged out of a corner to continue his attack, but Baba in turn threw him into the opposite corner and started unleashing with a flurry of punches and knees in the corner. Baba then threw Hansen through the ropes and to the outside, giving him some time to recover on the inside of the ring. Hansen was quick to get back in the ring, however, as he charged in with a forearm and started unleashing a series of strikes on Baba. Baba was able to see off the threat with an overhead chop as he again threw Hansen into a corner and tried his same strategy as last time, but this time Hansen wised up and reversed by throwing Baba into the corner as this time he was the one to deliver strikes in the corner. Hansen followed up by getting Baba to the ground again as he again worked on the giant's knees. Baba tried to fight Hansen off, but to no avail as Hansen's focus and tenacity let him keep the various leg locks in. Baba was eventually able to get a break by grabbing a rope as Hansen continued his assault on Baba's knees when both men stood up. Hansen then tried to drop Baba with several attempts at a side suplex, but Baba was able to reverse out of the setup hold and in turn started delivering overhead chop after overhead chop at his opponent. Baba transitioned into locking on a sleeper hold on Hansen in a move that led to Hansen seemingly beginning to fade. After several agonizing moments, Hansen summoned a second wind and was able to get a ropebreak himself. Free from Baba's grasp, Hansen grabbed onto Baba again and tried another attempt at a side suplex, but he was shoved away off the ropes. With his opponent rebounding, Baba lifted a foot for a Big Boot, but Hansen sidestepped it and hit a Lariat on the rebound to the back of Baba... but Baba merely absorbed the blow! Baba turned around and floored Hansen with a rough forearm as it soon became his turn to work on his opponent's knees on the ground again. After feeling he softened him up enough, Baba dragged Hansen to his opponent to his feet as he then whipped him into the ropes and connected with a Big Boot! 1...2...No! Hansen just kicked out! Baba didn't break his focus as he continued to soften Hansen up with a variety of overhead chops. Hansen - almost subconsciously - started throwing punches for each chop he received as he then desperately threw a Lariat attempt. Baba wowed the crowd by chopping Hansen's arm back down to his side as then threw another Big Boot, but this time Hansen dodged the attempt as he dumped the former Champion Carnival winner over the top rope! Hansen followed to the outside as he started a beatdown on Baba on the outside using whatever objects he could (legally) use. Rolling Baba back into the ring, Hansen then finally started to deliver the side suplexes he was looking at before and connected with three in a row. Hansen then signaled that a Lariat was near as Baba began slowly getting to his feet. Once he was vertical, Hansen charged out of the corner and connected with his finishing move! Cover, 1...2...Baba kicked out! Furious, Hansen picked right up where he left off as he stomped away like a madman at his downed opponent as Baba fought to get to his feet. Hansen waited in the corner yet again and charged for a third attempt at a Lariat, but was halted by an overhead chop and another attempt at a Big Boot that was ducked. Hansen finally connected with his Lariat and made the cover... 1...2...3! Hansen does it! Whoever just jumped the railing, however, had a different plan... It's A Block winner Stan Hansen! With his back to Hansen, Baba was unable to see the intruder as he suddenly was blasted across the back with a cowbell. Hansen stood over Baba's downed body as he then dragged his Champion Carnival final opponent to his feet by the arm. A rebound off the ropes later and Hansen floored Baba with a Lariat. Hansen raised his cowbell and threw the horns in the air as the show came to a close. Representing the A Block were Stan Hansen, Jumbo Tsuruta and Terry Funk. Representing the B Block were Genichiro Tenryu and Giant Baba. Stan Hansen merely calls himself the most dominant force in All Japan Pro Wrestling in the present day and says that Tsuruta will have nothing for him in what could be their block deciding matchup. Jumbo Tsuruta says it has been his goal to be the man to unite both NWA singles championships in All Japan Pro Wrestling since the start of the year and the opportunity is staring right at him over the course of his next two events. He says getting the win over Hansen to win the block and move onto the final will be nothing short of sweet because of Hansen's closeness to "that quitter" Bruiser Brody. Terry Funk says he proved to everybody that he's deserving to be champion in All Japan Pro Wrestling. Already a tag team champion with his brother Dory Jr., Funk says his wins over Tsuruta and Harley Race in block matchups show to the world that his time at the top of the mountain is coming. Genichiro Tenryu says his Champion Carnival effort this year is to make a statement that he is still a deserving singles title challenger. Umanosuke Ueda was nothing but a road block and a pest. With Ueda now out of the way, Tenryu's attention has evolved past the PWF World Heavyweight Championship race as he says he's ready to become the NWA International Heavyweight Champion for the first time in his career. Giant Baba, the six-time tournament winner, says he knows what it takes to win this tournament and that you simply can't underestimate any single person in this tournament. Despite being brutalized with the weapon for several excruciating moments on the ground, Baba eventually began to power his way back to his feet. It was clear Misawa earned Tenryu's respect through the match as the one-year pro was able to showcase effective counter after effective counter for Tenryu's early attacks. Misawa was able to get some offense in on his own and nearly connected with a running forearm but was countered into a small package pin. Tenryu came close on several occasions to landing a Powerbomb, but Misawa was able to escape on each occasion - even delivering a rana to the outside that brought the Kobe crowd to its feet. A flash of light bulbs went off as Misawa then dived through the second and third ropes to deliver a forearm against Tenryu. At this point, it was clear the momentum swung to the youngster's favor. Misawa tried to capitalize with a DDT on the mat, but Tenryu was able to power out of it and forced Misawa's back into the ring post. With Misawa's failure to capitalize on the outside mats, Tenryu rolled him into the ring and was able to string enough moves together before going for his signature Powerbomb. This time, however, Misawa was able to reverse out of the hold and deliver a modified Tornado DDT as a reversal. With time running out, Misawa made the cover to hopefully pick up the win, but Tenryu just managed to get the shoulder up at two as the timekeeper called for the draw. The PWF World Heavyweight Champion's Champion Carnival hopes were dashed by the challenge of the young Onita. Onita stayed the course with his underhanded tricks while Race tried to keep Onita planted on the ground for as long as he could. A distracted Kyohei Wada wasn't able to catch Onita throwing some salt in Race's eyes and a shot with some brass knuckles as the youngster rolled up the PWF Champion for a surprise fall. After Onita had his arm raised, Race was able to clear his eyes and charged after the match's victor all the way to the backstage area. As to what happened back there, who knows? Fuchi's early strategy of keeping the match at a slow pace was working wonders on Tsuruta, but the NWA United National Champion was usually quick to break away with a strong slam to turn the match back to his favor. With this, Fuchi had to switch up his strategy as he then started trying to draw Tsuruta into traps by trying to bring the match to the outside. By the 20-minute mark, it was becoming evident to the smaller wrestler that his chances of getting one over on the larger Tsuruta were quickly dwindling. Tsuruta was quick to grab Fuchi and made sure to punish him on the outside by working his arms with the help of the ring post. Returning his opponent to the ring, Tsuruta tried to finish the match off with a Backdrop Suplex but was unable to hang onto Fuchi long enough to put him down with the move. Fuchi was able to continue squirming away for long enough to force the match to a draw. With the conclusion of this one, we're looking at a wild conclusion to A Block next week with three wrestlers still in contention for the block! RATING: 68</div></div></blockquote> </div>
