Real World Data - New Company?!

Recommended Posts

Hey peeps, I wanted to start a new game, but I'm not a huge fan of TNA and don't feel i could really invest the kind of time a game with the WWE would call for. Sooooo, needless to say I am going to start another company... My question is, Who out there would have the money and the ability to open a new company in the real world data?! I know Ted Turner could if he wanted to, however, many wonder if he would realistically do so. Eric Bischoff has the knowledge but doesn't really have the money, and the same goes for Paul Heyman. So does anyone know who would be best fitted to open their own company?! Doesn't matter if its a current wrestler, retired wrestler, staff member, everday businessman (ie: turner, trump). Just thought id get some options from you guys as well, I want it to be realistic so no Sean Waltman companies... haha.. As I'm sure he'd probably bet high and forget that he actually had his own company. Anywhizzle, Let me know!! Take care

Go with Trump...you can have something like after wrestlmania Trump realized he had a true passion for the wrestling business. So he contacted someone with a little more knowldge and hatred for WWE (insert big name superstar here...Goldberg maybe?) and togther they formed "X Federation". The main attraction for each show can be the main event match is a "You're Fired" match where Trump comes to the ring and Fires the loser....that should be gimmicky enough to compete with the E lol
If its a big company, Trump works. So does someone like the Maloof Bros (they own casinos and an NBA team).
The Maloof brothers would rock, as would Mark Cuban. But someone that many folks probably wouldn't consider: Mark Burnett. From what I've heard (which might've been BS given the source - a wrestling promoter looking for investors), Burnett owns a piece of some big (relatively speaking) promotion in Australia. Also, Woody Johnson (owner of the NY Jets), Pat Bowlen and/or John Elway (look at Elway's portfolio to see why), and the list goes on. Mainly people who came into their wealth relatively quickly with "money to burn", so to speak. They don't all have to be "young" but survivors of the dot com boom can definitely qualify (Google's founders, Yahoo's founders, Marc Andreesen, etc). Wrestling promotions don't have to be dogs with fleas if run right. They can eke out smallish profits consistently, depending on the product and area they're based in. And since a million dollar investment can get you SO much (and a million dollars isn't very much for an entertainment vehicle, relatively speaking), it's a lot more accessible than many people might think.

I like the idea about Google or Yahoo's founders, could be very realistic that people with a lot of money in that mindset may push for a new promotion... Especially if they foresee the general public really looking for something "new". In potential business, I could see one of them putting a couple million into the idea (3 max in some senses) to get something going if they felt that there was going to be a massive payout in the end. Hmmmm, You're post gave me some ideas I think. Plus, They would probably want to hire people like Eric Bischoff or Paul Heyman to help "guide" their product if they have shown understanding in the wrestling world. (Since they would want to maxamize the ability to make profit)

So you have some names: The guys who founded YouTube (2 of the 3..third guy seems to hate publicity): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chad_Hurley http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Chen_%28YouTube%29 And google founder Sergey Brin: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergey_Brin Or if you want to stay with sports owners (I would've suggested Mark Cuban, too but someone is doing a diary with Cuban as an owner already) there is also Malcolm Glazer (who owns the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Manchester United) or Randy Lerner (owns the Cleveland Browns and Aston Villa Football Club).

In my fantasy world I usually take a few retired wrestlers or I get Bobby Heenan and a few other regular wrestlers and have it as the idea that they put their money together. I usually start them out as just a Local fed with around 250,000 dollars in their name. That's just how I like to it.

Other choices: Paul Allen - Microsoft co-founder, owner of the Seattle Seahawks and Portland Trail Blazers and a multi billion dollar company of his own (Vulcan Inc, which surprisingly enough, used to own Dreamworks Animation). Steve Ballmer - Microsoft CEO. Seems unintuitive but if you know of Ballmer's personality, you'd see how he could be a wrestling promotion owner. When he gets behind something, it's full speed ahead. He's like a rabid dog in that respect (once he locks his jaws, it's all over). He's also an innovative financial mind so he'd definitely be able to keep the promotion from "bleeding out", moneywise. Al Davis - why the hell not? :p George Steinbrenner - before you scoff, realize that he has his own network (YES) that can broadcast the promotion's events. So getting a TV deal wouldn't be too hard, I'd think. And given his clout with broadcasters, a PPV deal would be a no brainer. In fact, if the Boss owned the promotion, I don't think it'd be unrealistic to start at Cult size, given the promotional muscle he can bring to bear. Bruce Ratner - owner of the New Jersey Nets and another personality type that would fit with being a wrestling owner. James Dolan - owner of the New York Knicks (NBA), New York Rangers (NHL), New York Liberty (WNBA), Madison Square Garden, and Cablevision (one of the largest cable operators in the country). Again, any promotion he owns would probably start at Cult level with a TV (and possibly PPV) deal in place. They'd also have use of arguably the most storied arena in wrestling. BUT, the promotion's management would be completely inept and the company's primary source of earnings would be from their PPV and/or merchandising deals (to match his real life persona). Imagine latter day WCW, an order of magnitude worse.

Just to keep in line with Dolan's style of letting people who are in completely over their heads run things: Bill Watts or Verne Gagne or Kevin Sullivan would probably be head booker. Or maybe just some guy from accounts receivable who saw The Rock's last movie.

How about Dana White and Zuffa Entertainment. Then get someone like a Hogan, to run the buisness, most all the workers would really respect him and trust him on where the company is going. Then you get new talent from those UFC fighters that don't have all the tools to be a great fighter but could be a great entertainer. White & Hogan is my bet
