ROF Tag Team Titles The Shooters © vs Future X Despite their recent communication problems, I can't see the Shooters just dropping the titles back to Future X right away. Number One Contenders British Samurai vs Stevie Stoat I get the feeling that Samurai's title run in early 2007, was his last run with the belt (for the forseeable future at-least) and he's slowly being transitioned into the role of 'gate-keeper' to the main event. Stoat is already a viable title contender, so he picks up the win here Dave Xmas vs Jonni Lowlife It's obvious that Dave X-mas is no slouch, so he'll pick up another win here. Exhibition Match Donny Damage vs Merle O’Curle After his win in the 4-way O'Curle is looking unstoppable, so a win for Damage would be a major shock......that I can't see happening.

British Samurai now seems to be the gate keeper to the main event Dave Xmas vs Jonni Lowlife Xmas will continue his roll for awhile. Exhibition Match Donny Damage vs Merle O’Curle Now that O'Curle has made a mockery of my predictions two weeks in a row, I might never pick against him again...

O’Curle has been a dominant champion and won’t want to lose in a singles match having just defended in a triple threat and a 4-way. Also for fans in attendance... 10-man Battle Royal
Merle O’Curle ended last year by defending his title successfully in both a triple threat match and a 4-way. Now wrestlers are once again receiving one-on-one title shots, Stevie Stoat is the first lucky recipient. And, as always, he was only too happy to talk to Justin Blackham about it. JB: Well, Stevie, you’ve got a singles match against Merle O’Curle for the ROF Championship this fortnight. What are your thoughts going into the match? SS: My thoughts are that it’s about damn time Stevie Stoat got another singles match against the champion. I’ve proved that I’m the best wrestler around here time and time again, but the multi-man matches just worked against me. It’s much easier for a lucky win to happen in those bouts. And O’Curle got lucky. This time there’ll be no luck for him and no excuses. It’s going to be Stevie Stoat’s time once again. JB: You did face O’Curle one-on-one last year for the belt and came up on the losing end. What makes you think it will be different this time? SS: The only reason I lost that match was because I got distracted by UK Dragon. Stevie Stoat doesn’t get distracted anymore. My focus is 100% on O’Curle for this match and returning that belt to its rightful owner. JB: I suppose it helps that Dragon is working in Japan that night anyway? SS: No, cloth ears. As I said, Stevie Stoat doesn’t let little irritants like UK Dragon distract him anymore. JB: Last time you were interviewed you were a little, shall we say, unkind about Merle O’Curle. Do you expect any kind of backlash? SS: From O’Curle? Why don’t you interview him and ask him? Oh, that’s right, because he’d freeze in front of the microphone and look petrified – which would actually represent his true feelings going into this match, I’m sure. JB: With the likes of British Samurai, UK Dragon, Walter Morgan and Petey Barnes around here, plus the new arrival of JD Morgan, there are plenty of people who will want to challenge for the ROF Championship. A loss this month might send you to the back of a lengthy queue. How will you go about lifting yourself back up the rankings when you lose? SS: What? JB: I asked how will you lift yourself in the unlikely event you were to lose? SS: Do you actually get paid to ask stupid questions, Blackham? I’m not going to lose. Full stop. If the unthinkable did happen, then Stevie Stoat would just beat as many people as it takes to lift himself back into title contention again. That’s how wrestling in ROF works, dummy. JB: Finally, you were a pretty popular wrestler when you won the title in 2006. But now certain audience members have been vocal about their disdain for your 'sports entertainment' ways since your return. Do you have anything to say to them? SS: They just can't take the fact that there is something out there bigger than their beloved Ring of Fire and they get all territorial when a success story like Stevie Stoat returns to the fold to add a new dimension. Actually, I like that - 'Success Story' Stevie Stoat. Has a kind of ring to it. JB: A ring? Yes, it does kind of make me think of one finger. SS: What?
Predictions ROF Talisman Title Petey Barnes © vs Walter Morgan British Samurai vs UK Dragon JD Morgan vs K’Lee Hawkins ROF Championship Merle O’Curle © vs Stevie Stoat

ROF Talisman Title Petey Barnes © vs Walter Morgan New year, New Champion, plus I just feel Barnes run with the Mid-card belt has run it's course. British Samurai vs UK Dragon As I stated last week I feel Samurai is beginning to fade into a gate-keeper to the main event role, where he still gets wins over the mid-card but jobs to the main eventers. JD Morgan vs K’Lee Hawkins Another win for Morgan, as he continues his run (I get the feeling this will all be heading towards O'Curle vs Morgan for the title in a few months time) . Hawkins is a career mid-carder. ROF Championship Merle O’Curle © vs Stevie Stoat O'Curle just looks unstoppable right now.

ROF Talisman Title Petey Barnes © vs Walter Morgan It's time for Morgan to get a sustained push starting with gaining the Talisman title British Samurai vs UK Dragon Dragon will get the wins and then go up against Morgan. JD Morgan vs K’Lee Hawkins Morgan is a stupendous worker and he'l put on very high rated matches with O'Curle barring bad chemistry. ROF Championship Merle O’Curle © vs Stevie Stoat I dislike Stoat and i think O'Curle should continue to be dominant untill he finally faces JD Morgan. A few draws with Morgan leads to a best of seven and then we see who truly comes out on top.
Still reading and entertained. I'm glad i won't be in attendance for that Lance Martin/ O'Curle matchup. I'll be stunned if O'Curle can get any decent grade out of him!
You'd be surprised. O'Curle is like a magician! There's nobody on the roster he can't get at least a C- with. Glad you're enjoying the diary.

Both of "THe Shooters" will take wins although I'm confused is Jonni Dyslexic another Jonni or just antoher name for Jonni Lowlife. Walter Morgan makes his first defense of the Talisman title, although I would like to see his first defense actually be a well deserved rematch for Petey Barnes.

The Wigan technician took some time to chat with Justin Blackham. JB: Walter, first of all congratulations on your title win. WM: Thanks, JB. It was about time I got another title. It had been a while! JB: It was surprising to me that in all that time that Petey held the belt, that was your first shot at the title. What took so long? WM: I don’t know. I think probably I had been aiming more at the ROF Championship in the past twelve months, but couldn’t quite get past guys like Samurai, UK Dragon, O’Curle and Stoat. Sometimes you have to take a step back to take some forwards, so hopefully getting the Talisman title now will help me establish my credentials for another ROF Championship shot down the line. JB: You’re a very popular figure with the crowds here. Why do you think that is? WM: I guess the ROF fans come to the shows expecting to see good wrestling from people who are working hard. They appreciate the technical aspects of the sport, and they like to see an honest and fair approach. I think I tick those boxes for them, so they tend to be on my side. JB: You’re well known for coming from Wigan and being a product of the wrestling school up there. Do you keep in touch with developments from your old base? WM: Not as much as I used to, probably with us running our shows solely in London now. But I do still speak with one or two of my old trainers and visit the gym there from time to time. There’s one or two prospects who’ll be hitting the UK wrestling scene fairly soon. JB: Any names for us? WM: No, I don’t want to put any undue pressure on any young guys coming through. I think there’s enough pressure in the business now, especially since the 21CW takeover. But even with 3 UK promotions, there are still plenty of genuine guys out there struggling to get wrestling dates in this country. JB: Getting back to the Talisman title picture, who do you see as your biggest challengers? WM: I think it’s a bit up in the air at the moment. K’Lee is getting the shot this month, which I’m pleased about because I enjoy wrestling him and he’s a good guy. But even he would admit he hasn’t had much in-ring success lately. A lot of the other would-be contenders seem to be focused on tag wrestling at the moment – Robinson, Henderson, Barnes and Highspot would all fall into that category, although Petey already told me he wants a rematch as soon as possible! I know Keith Adams wants a shot at the belt as well but he’s still proving himself around here. Whether someone like Stevie Stoat would do like I did and drop a level to try and improve his credentials remains to be seen too. JB: You’re often referred to as a key figure backstage and someone that the younger guys find easy to talk to if they need help with any aspect of their work. Do you actively seek out that role or does it just happen? WM: I think it just happens. If I can help anyone out, I’m always glad to. But I’m certainly not the only one. There’s a good blend of youth and experience in the locker room right now, and guys like Donny [Damage] and JD [Morgan] now being in there gives the youngsters plenty of different people to seek advice from. I’ll never go seeking a guy out though. If someone wants me, they come and find me. JB: Thanks for taking the time to talk, Walter. I’ll tell you, it’s refreshing to do a normal interview this week. One last question – are you and JD Morgan related? WM: Only in as much as we both value technical wrestling. But there are no blood links there. JB: No chance of a Morgans tag team then? WM: Actually, I’d love to tag with him sometime, but I don’t see it in our immediate future. I think we both have other priorities right now.
Predictions Billy Robinson vs Johnny Highspot Non-title match Lance Martin vs Merle O’Curle Don Henderson vs Jonni Lowlife ROF Talisman Title Walter Morgan © vs K’Lee Hawkins

I didn't spot my mistake in the newsletter - yes, Dyslexic should be Lowlife. I'm actually amazed it's taken me that long for that mistake to creep in. I'm so used to calling the guy Dyslexic from TEW 2005! As for Barnes, yes he definitely deserves a rematch for the Talisman belt. Only reason he isn't getting it this month is because he's going to be in the ROF Championship match as a reward for his long reign and his battle royal win last month. I didn't want to put him in two different title matches in the same month. If he doesn't come out of that match with the main belt, I'm sure he'll be getting a Talisman rematch soon.

Are you prepared for the match? High: I guess you could say so. But to be honest, we’re not big on massive amounts of preparation. Right, Jonni? Low: Yeah, we kind of like to roll with the punches. Our best chance against a team like The Shooters is to catch them off guard by doing the unexpected. We like to improvise a bit in the ring, and I think that’s what makes us dangerous. If we don’t know exactly what we’re doing going into a match, how will our opponents? JB: You just had one win and one defeat in singles matches against Robinson and Henderson. Does that mean nobody has the advantage going into the match? Low: I actually think we’ve got a slight mental advantage because most fans expected us to lose both those singles matches. But of course my partner here proved them wrong. Right, Johnny? High: Yeah, I managed to get the victory over Billy Robinson. I still like to think that on my day I can beat anybody. But yeah, definitely. The Shooters thought they’d get two wins, so they must have some doubts now. JB: Those matches did seem to highlight some fans’ conceptions that Johnny with an ‘h’ is the stronger link of the team towards ‘double n’ Jonni. What do you say to that? Low: That doesn’t worry me, because it’s probably pretty accurate. Johnny with an ‘h’ – I’m so going to call you that now, dude – has been on the UK scene a lot longer than me. He’s been in 21CW and wrestled across the country. I’m just starting out in comparison. So it’s only natural that I’m going to still be learning from him. Right, Johnny? High: I suppose so, but Jonni here has a world of potential. I don’t like to think about it, because I see us as equals in every way at the moment. Well, apart from the fact that my Johnny is longer than his Jonni. Low: Man, that just sounds so wrong. JB: Erm…getting back to the wrestling…Do you see yourselves now as a fully fledged tag team, or do you both still have singles ambitions? High: I like to wrestle singles matches every now and then. It’s a different environment and I’m used to it because I spent much of my career as a singles wrestler. But I’m not sure you feel quite the same, right Jonni? Low: No, I enjoy wrestling singles but I do see myself as a tag team challenger right now. My singles matches are really experience builders to me. But I think Johnny is good enough to go after the singles titles in ROF as well, so I don’t want to stop him from doing that. JB: Well, thanks for your time, fellers.
