Thanks guys for the tips. No show tonight, I'm trying to devote a lot of time to studying for exams, but what I have done is continued to update the index in the first post of the shows. I'm about halfway to getting them indexed with a brief, if not vague, description of the show and a link to those shows. It's quite a lot of fun going back in time and reviewing some of the moments that shape the diary towards the eventual end goal location of Starrcade. Each Pay-Per-View for me is building in excitement towards the event, even Halloween Havoc which should be up in the next week. Its fun for me to think something so primitive, so basic in terms of its booking detail and storyline arches has become so addictive and so much fun to pump out. The old school guys who have been here a couple of years will remember DOWCW, and to be honest given how much fun I had with I didn't think after DOWCW that I could enjoy a TEW project so much, but this has been a world of fun for me. I still plan in the next few months to go back to DOWCW and embellish it with an index of it's own, and some recaps to try and bring the loose strings of that project together.

At the top of the show, we cut backstage to find a couple of long legged women in attractive upmarket black dresses slurping on flutes of champagne, and looking quite tiddly. Curt Hennig is in the room with his head in his hands... "Oh yeah, he is .. like... so hot and I was all like, no way, and she was like way, and I was like no way," the first brunette says. "Is that... is that a Prada bag?" The second woman, a blond says. "I.. I love Prada." "Oh me too..." Finally, Scott Hall walks into the room, and Curt Hennig looks relieved to see him. "Hey, hey yo, Chels," Hall utters, winking at the brunette. "Oh, thank god you're here," Hennig cries out. "Look Scott, I know we all agreed on bringing some of our mistresses back here tonight so we could all be... a family. But this just isn't working out man. This just isn't perfe.." "Tough guy, what is it you want me to do?" Hall asks. "Simple, Scott. One of these broads is yours, one of these is Big Kev's," Hennig says, as he reaches into his wallet, and pulls out a wad of Ben Franklin's. "Now, why don't you take these two gals, and have a night on the town." "But chico, what about my match tonight?" "I'll take care of it, plus, you know what Kev's like," Hennig replies. "You know how he wants us to be professional, I'm sure he'll understand you taking care of the distractions..." Hall thinks about it for a nano second before snatching the Ben Franklin's from Hennig's grasp, and beckoning the beauties to follow him.
'The Man of 1000 Holds' Dean Malenko, WCW Cruiserweight Champion Jushin 'Thunder' Lyger and Lance Storm v Psisocis, Ultimo Dragon and Masahio Chono A fluent and quick encounter. The slow points in the match were in the middle where Malenko battled with Chono, with Malenko trying to keep Chono occupied on the mat to avoid the chronic, deadly stiff kick to the head Chono has been employing lately. Aside from this nice slow patch where you could easily identify the basics and psychology being used, the stand out performer tonight was Psicosis who was dropping air bombs from everywhere with finesse. The tags were swift and open for both teams to keep the quick luchadore style wrestlers in a quick transitions, and this basically led to a bit of a spot fest. Jushin Lyger hit a stunning Swantonbomb on Ultimo Dragon, but before he could make the pin, Psicosis distracted him, and while Malenko threw Psicosis over the top, Chono was there to land his crippling stiff kick, dropping Lyger down for an unfortunate, and perhaps poorly booked, loss. Result: Your winners, Psicosis, Ultimo Dragon and Masahiro Chono
Backstage, 'Big Sexy' Kevin Nash is looking incredibly frustrated. He has just exited the nWo dressing room, and noticed his mistress and Hall's mistress, and the bad guy himself, are nowhere to be seen. Vincent arrives on the scene, and see's the frustration on Nash's face. "What's up, bro?" Vincent asks. "Do you know where Hall is?" Nash asks. "Yeah, he's had to take Chantelle and Chelsea back to their hotels or sum'thin like that." Vincent replies. "We were supposed to have a three way tonight, me, Hall and Chris Jericho..." "Maybe he's having his own three way as we speak," Vincent grins. This earns the ire of Nash who thrusts Vincent against the brick wall, with his hand gouged around his neck. "What did you say?" Vincent swings his arms begging to be released so he can breathe, and finally Nash relents. "I... I'm sorry Kev, look big guy, I'm sure everything is on the up and up." Just then, Buff 'The Stuff' Bagwell waltzes onto the scene, with an arrogant, humourous goofy look on his face. "What's going on here, mofos?" Bagwell asks. "Hall's left with Chantelle and Chelsea," Vincent comments. "Lucky guy," Bagwell notes. "Lucky guy?" Nash asks. "Yeah, he's probably getting it on with both those hot chicks right now... Uh, uh, uh of course, he wouldn't do that to you Kev, I reckon he's just dropping them off to their hotel," Bagwell gulps when he realises Nash is far from happy. "He's left me down and out, Bagwell," Nash says. "Down where?" Bagwell asks. "Don't try it bro, you're not Hall. Listen, but you can be tonight. You see, later on tonight, you're taking Scott's place. Let's deal with Goldberg, Flair and Sting, and then later, I'll deal with Hall myself..." Nash walks off, leaving Bagwell confused as usual. ------------------------ After the break, a video segment played highlighting the main event for Halloween Havoc - 'Lionheart' Chris Jericho defending his WCW World Heavyweight Championship against Sting. * We review Sting living in the rafters for 12 months, stalking his nWo prey * How he destroyed the nWo before getting hold of Hogan * How the WCW locker room embraced Sting as Starrcade '97 culminated * We look then at Chris Jericho turning his back on WCW and joining the nWo * We see Jericho progressively getting closer to upsetting Sting in a series of epic encounters * Finally, we see Jericho defeat Sting to become a World Heavyweight Champion * We see Sting and Hart's feud building, before it hit a three way match with Chris Jericho for the World Heavyweight Championship, and how close Sting came to winning that Championship * We review the frustrations this caused Jericho as the media glossed over him retaining the Championship, giving Sting credit for a fantastic match
'Latino Heat' Eddie Guerrero (c) v 'Your Olympic Hero' Kurt Angle A current champion versus a former Television Champion. This was a very slick encounter. Angle in his early career here suffered with some of the psychology required to pull off a big match, but he showed he had learned a lot in this match as both he and Guerrero controlled the tempo beautifully. Angle showed just how much he has learned, using both the inside and outside of the ring to slow momentum and gain realistic opportunities to counter and retake ascendency. Usually with a midcard match on Nitro, the match tends to get rushed through to keep the level of belief suspended to tell the tale, but these two were able to drag it out quite realistically and keep all the fans invigorated. Finally, after several counter spots involving swift chain wrestling, Angle was taken down by a version of his own Olympic Slam by Guerrero, who then went to the top and hit the Frogsplash for a terrific win. Result: Your winner, and STILL WCW Television Champion, Eddie Guerrero
As Eddie Guerrero slumped back to the mat in exasperation for the energy he had to exude to finally overcome Kurt Angle, we went to another video package, this time featuring 'The Master of the Diamond Cutter' Diamond Dallas Page and Raven who will meet at Halloween Havoc. * We review how Raven had been there for Diamond Dallas Page when WCW released him 3 years ago * We review how Raven was a man from the Bowery who had nothing but hardships, but he had to take Page under his wing and guide him through. * We review how DDP turned his back on all of WCW by joining the nWo * We review how DDP highlighted that infact he had been the founding father of the nWo the whole time * We review how Raven turned down the nWo's contract offer, tearing up their contract to announce he was his own man, for the fans who had not deserted him like Page had * We review how Kimberly Page ended up fleeing from Page to join Disco Inferno recently, and how this has affected Page and how Raven has psychologically tormented Page about it as a result ----------------------- Before we went to our enxt break, 'Macho Man' Randy Savage was walking towards the gorilla position, whereby he saw the WCW United States Champion, 'Rabid Wolverine' Chris Benoit, walking from the WCW Internet broadcast position where he had been giving guest commentary. "Yeah, oooh yeah. You better watch Benoit, yeah, because tonight you see a legend in action," Savage comments. "Come Halloween Havoc, that belt is mine. DIG IT!" Benoit shakes his head, as Savage continues to walk towards the ring entrance.
Curt Hennig v 'Macho Man' Randy Savage A slow encounter, mainly spent in the corners with some physical action, and then a few rest spots. Savage seemed intense and fired up, and his momentum gathered and gathered, until he was able to wear down Hennig long enough to get to the top rope to hit the Flying Elbow Smash for the win. Result: Your winner, Randy Savage
After the break, Curt Hennig limped back towards the nWo dressing room, holding an ice pack to his head, when he saw the imposing frame of a very unhappy 'Big Sexy' Kevin Nash, who blocked the door to the dressing room. Hennig gulped as Nash folded his arms menacingly, looking at the injured Hennig with a look of sheer anger in his eyes. "I need to know Curt, what's going through head right now?" Nash asked. "A considerable amount of pain, if you must know," Hennig replied, ignoring the obvious direction Nash was coming from. "Look, I'm not going to muck around Curt, I need to know, did you send Scott Hall away tonight with Chelsea and Chantelle?" Nash asked. Hennig gulped, and his eyes looked left and right, as he looked incredibly guilty. "Or did you not?" Nash then asked. "You see, I doubt you would have, the fact is I trust you like a brother and I don't think you'd put the knife into me like that." "Oh, uh, of course I never would," Hennig replied. "Look, Kev, I ... I would love to stay and chat, but right now I can see two of you and I think I'm in the need of medical attention." Nash moved out of harms way, seemingly satisfied Hennig was telling the truth.
WCW Tag Team Championships Rey Mysterio Jr and Chavo Guerrero Jr (c) v Thrillapalooza (Billy Kidman and Jerry Lynn) Largely a spot fest, that was perhaps prone too much to burn up the crowd's energy levels for an upper midcard spot like this, this match lacked a little high end maintenance and tempo control to truly deliver on the capabilities of both these teams. Both teams had a lot of chances, but this over reliance on finishers and near falls has the unnerving ability to undersell a wrestler's finisher. Nevertheless, when Thrillapalooza finally started to gain a little more ascendency, The Extreme Innovators ran down to ringside, and bundled Billy Kidman off balance on the top rope, allowing Chavo Guerrero Jr to get back up quickly and hit the Tornado DDT for the win. Result: Your winners, and STILL WCW Tag Team Champions, Rey Mysterio Jr and Chavo Guerrero Jr
After the match, Thrillapalooza looked on angered, as 'The Innovator of Offence' Chris Kanyon took the microphone from David Penzer. Perry Saturn had in his hand a piece of paper. "Who better dan Kanyon?" He asked. "Truly, who better dan Kanyon? Well boys, we've been wondering the same damn thing. So Kidman, Jerry Lynn, you boys look a bit [BEEP]y at us right now, but just hold on boys, just hold on. You see, when we won the right to claim a World Tag Team Championship shot, we decided to cash it in for Halloween Havoc. But ya see boys, we don't want to just beat Rey and Chavo to take the titles, we want you to know we've got your measure too. So at Halloween Havoc, for the World Tag Team Championships, we've got a three way dance - Rey and Chavo, The Extreme Innovators, and Thrillapalooza!" Billy Kidman and Jerry Lynn smiled at each other, realising they once again had a shot that was only moments ago taken away from them. Before Kanyon and Saturn leave however, Kanyon has one more comment to pass. "And to even things up, we know you boys like climbing ladders and we like tables, so .. at Halloween Havoc, in the three way Tag Title match, tables, ladders and chairs will be allowed, with the Tag Championships suspended above the ring. That's right boys, the only way to win is to reclaim the Titles ya damn selves!" Rey and Chavo shake their heads, knowing they've just been booked into a three way conflict where they don't have to get pinned to lose their Championships.
The Giant v 'Total Package' Lex Luger Luger came to try and attack the big knees of the Giant to try and take him off his feet, and then when this avenue proved fruitless, he tried knocking him down his bionic elbows, but all he ran into was an open palm and a Chokeslam. Result: Your winner, the Giant
Meanwhile, backstage 'Latino Heat' Eddie Guerrero enters the dressing room of Kimberly Page, who is strangely, alone. "Mamacita, finally we get a chance to speak," Eddie calls out. "Leave me alone Eddie," Kimberly replies. "All this is because of you!" "Because of me, mamacita? No, I'm an innocent bystander. The true criminal here is Disco Inferno. He's the one who has led you astray from your husband esse, not me. Besides, a beautiful woman like you... you shouldn't be caught in the 70s mamacita." The door clicks open and Disco Inferno walks in, he looks up and notices Eddie, and charges at him. The two men start scrapping on the concrete floor, as we fade to a break.
Bill Goldberg, 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair and Sting v WCW World Heavyweight Champion 'Lionheart' Chris Jericho, 'Big Sexy' Kevin Nash and Buff 'The Stuff' Bagwell A well worked, if not quick or technically sound encounter. Bagwell and Nash focused on Goldberg and Flair, and Jericho on Sting, and the evolving feuds were left to separate in most spots throughout the match. Eventually, Nash and Bagwell started brawling with Goldberg and Flair up the aisle, leaving Jericho and Sting to finish this match off. It was a mini-display of what was coming at Halloween Havoc, as both men traded bitter blows, top chain wrestling, and some good mat wrestling complete with exceptional encounters. The finish was very basic, a double roll through inside cradle with the World Heavyweight Champion's shoulders remaining down fractionally longer than the three count for Sting to send a message to Jericho before this coming Sunday. Result: Your winners, Bill Goldberg, Ric Flair and Sting
Sting held his arms aloft, as Chris Jericho got up frustrated. Jericho grabbed the World Heavyweight Championship, ran at Sting and smashed it into Sting's face. The veteran legend fell to the ground, as Jericho stood over him with a look of contempt as we faded out, with the commentators reminding everyone about Halloween Havoc, this coming Sunday.

Loved the last show, thought it was great buddy. Supernova Extreme X (Psicosis and Ultimo Dragon) v WCW Cruiserweight Champion Jushin 'Thunder' Lyger and 'The Man of 1000 Holds' Dean Malenko I know Supernova won the last one but Lyger and Malenko have so much to offer I have to go with them. Curt Hennig v Booker T Booker can be one of the main guys, whereas I think Hennig is a bit old for that now TLC Match: Rey Mysterio Jr and Chavo Guerrero Jr (c) v Thrillapalooza (Billy Kidman and Jerry Lynn) v The Extreme Innovators (Perry Saturn and 'The Innovator of Offence' Chris Kanyon) Amazing match, this should be incredible. Hullo wabbit. Sorry for the lack of comments lately, just caught up with everything and it is awwwwwwesome. In honour of the Raw guest host initiative here are my predicitions for Halloween Hammock Supernova Extreme X (Psicosis and Ultimo Dragon) v WCW Cruiserweight Champion Jushin 'Thunder' Lyger and 'The Man of 1000 Holds' Dean Malenko I really love Jean Malenko and Dustin Lyger! Lyger is of course the Lightweight Champion and he and Jean make a great team, thus picking up the win at Submarine Havoc Curt Hennig v Booker T Clint Hennig was great as Mr Prefect but his time has been and gone. I expect the Harlem Heart member to pick up an impressive victory at Harlequin Hammer TLC Match: Rey Mysterio Jr and Chavo Guerrero Jr (c) v Thrillapalooza (Billy Kidman and Jerry Lynn) v The Extreme Innovators (Perry Saturn and 'The Innovator of Offence' Chris Kanyon) This would be a great match for Thrillfest to win and make their signature match as Jeff Harvey and The Edge would do in WWF. I don't expect Ray Mystery or Chavez to be involved in the finish, leaving them looking strong and in contention for a rematch at the next PPV WCW Mayday WCW Television Championship: 'Latino Heat' Eddie Guerrero (c) v Disco Inferno As much as I would like to see Disco Fever win here, Teddy Guerrero has been unstoppable as WCW Radio Champion. Latino Feet retains here at Harrowing Headlock The Outsiders v Bill Goldberg and 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair The Insiders sneak a victory against Bob Goldman and Mature Boy with Ric Fair taking the pin, right here, at Inbetween Gridlock Bowery Death Match: Raven v 'The Master of the Diamond Cutter' Diamond Dallas Page Simon Dallas Page is more than a match for his opponent in this Flowery Meth Match. I predict we will see more than one Simon Cutter here! Quote the Maven nevermore at Aberdeen McGavock. WCW United States Championship: 'Rabid Wolverine' Chris Benoit (c) v 'Macho Man' Randy Savage I would personally love to see Sandy Ravage claim the Commonwealth championship here. The Avid Tambourine should get the best out of Camacho Man and this could be one of the best matches at DandylionGreen SedimentaryRock WCW World Heavyweight Championship: 'Lionheart' Chris Jericho (c) v Sting Reply With Quote Martin Luther Sting has been chasing Swiss Jericho for a while now, and Trampoline Bollock is surely right up The Springers alley. HawaiianTart has been a great champ but it would be fun to see him chase for a while, unless your plan is to have him drop the belt further down the line at Starfest to somebody like Bob Goldman?

Alright, sit back, enjoy, grab some popcorn, put up a decorative pumpkin and spooge because this is Halloween Havoc! We bring the back braces, the crutches, the kendo sticks, you bring the turkey and beer. Sound fair? Proudly brought to you by this rippin' song that's currently burning up the charts, about some dude is being asked his name... niiiiiiicee. I'm sure we'll see many more hits from this young man... As we pan around 18 odd thousand fans here in San Jose, California, at the San Jose Arena, and we hear the crash of pyros which appear to be launching orange missiles into the arena rafters, we fade into the wise heads, Tony Schiavone, Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan and 'The Professor' 'Iron' Mike Tenay, your hosts for WCW Halloween Havoc 1998. "Welcome fans to an historic occasion, we are live on Pay-Per-View from San Jose, California, and with me tonight Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan and 'Iron' Mike Tenay," Tony Schiavone broadcasts. "Hello everybody, I'm Tony Schiavone, and this is WCW/nWo Halloween Havoc, and guys, tonight the war continues as 'Lionheart' Chris Jericho of the New World Order puts the WCW World Heavyweight Championship on the line against Sting." "Puts it on the line?" Heenan interjects. "He's been kicking and screaming the whole time trying to avoid this match." "Tony, Bobby, as you may remember it was at Spring Stampede way back earlier in the year when Chris Jericho upset Sting to claim his first World Heavyweight Championship," Tenay adds. "I talked to officials of the New World Order today, and guys, from what I understand, Chris Jericho is extremely anxious about this meeting, he's not happy he's in this particular match as undoubtedly Sting is the franchise of WCW." "I will say a couple of things about Jericho, he's no hamenegger," Heenan offers. "He knows how to wrestle, infact I'd go as far as to say he's pound for pound the best wrestler in WCW today. His reign as World Heavyweight Champion... you can't criticise him for not being a fighting champion. He's taken on all comers and beaten them all. But he knows, deep down in his own heart that Sting is a man who beat any man, woman or dog on any given day of the week and twice on Sunday. He's been down before, he's been beaten before, but he always comes back. And that's what bothers Jericho, he beat him at Spring Stampede but he knew eventually on Pay-Per-View that the time would come when Sting would come back for vengeance, and that time is tonight." "We'll try to get some words from the World Heavyweight Champion himself later in the night guys," Schiavone says, "But at this time, as you can hear from the latino beat itself, it's time for our opening match of what should be an epic Pay-Per-View." Very impressive. It wasn't your classic tag match, referee Billy Silverman allowed for some virtual lucha libre action, allowing for a lot of quality spots at the expense of tag team psychology. Twice Dean Malenko managed to slip out of Ultimo Dragon's Dragon Sleeper, which in itself is a feat. Ultimo Dragon has been going on a mission lately in his reconnoiter missions in Japan with the Dragon Sleeper, but as the commentators hyped Dean Malenko is the master technician who has great ring presence. Towards the 2/3rds mark, Dean Malenko slowed the match down using some mat wrestling holds on Psicosis to take the bedazzling Mexican superstar down. However the match soon picked up to a crescendo, with Lyger and Psicosis battling it out at the end, as Malenko and Dragon lay in the ring knocked down by a double clothesline. Psicosis went for the Psicosis Stunner, but Lyger managed to thrust him off into the ropes, and upon return Lyger went for an inside cradle, but Psicosis kicked out and the two men sprung to their feet. Psicosis signalled to the crowd that he was going up high, but Lyger followed him, and the two men battled duke for duke on the top rope, until Lyger gained ascendency and hit the Brainbuster.. He has his bag of luggage behind him, and the WCW World Heavyweight Championship folded neatly on a black leather recliner. Jericho turns around, apprehensive, and breathes of sigh of relief when he notices that it is Paulshock. "Sweet jesus, what in the blue hell are you doing back here?" Jericho asks. "Quick, shut the door.." "But.. but why?" "Just do it!" Paulshock quickly shuts the door, as Jericho anxiously looks around. "It's just you? Good." "Chris Jericho, tonight you will defend your World Heavyweight Championship against Sting, how do you feel heading into this clash?" "How do I feel? How about a little respect, you bottom feeding trash bag! You should address me by my rightful titles. The man of 1004 holds, your paragon of good virtue, the ayatollah of rock... n ROLLLLAAAA, the leader of all the Jerichoholics, your World Heavyweight Champion, Lionheart, Chris Jericho! Maybe to make it easier for you I should go and ask Jim Hellwig how to change my name by deed poll... I mean, what a freak that guy is." "So..?" "So... So what? You want me to answer your question? Why should I? I am your World Heavyweight Champion Pamela, and I demand some respect. All this past month all I've heard is Sting this, Sting that, Sting this, Sting that. Sting Sting Sting Sting! Don't people realise I'm the World Heavyweight Champion? What do I have to do? Kiss someone's [BEEP]? Seems to me that works up north. But you know, I don't think I suit the dirty sanchez look like some of those boys do." "The dirty what look?" Pamela asks. "Seriously? You've never tried?." "I get the feeling you're trying to change the subject so Chris, the match ..." "Yeah yeah yeah, the match. Look, off the record, Sting is an amazing wrestler. I've heard all the publicity, all the hype about how he was unlucky to lose his WCW World Heavyweight Championship to me. But the fact is this, ever since I won this Championship I've defended it with honour as a fighting champion. And all I demand is a bit of respect. And that's what I'm going to get tonight. You see, when I defeat Sting, and he lays in that ring as my music plays, even he will acknowledge my right to be known as the WCW World Heavyweight Champion....." Jericho looks slightly skyward with a look of self satisfaction on his face. "I can see it now, Pam. Jay Leno calling my name, hosting MTV Awards, kicking it with Mariah Carey by the pool grabbing those massive love handles and really giving her a good old fashio..." "Chris?" "Sorry, I was getting carried away. The fact of the matter is tonight, Sting, will find out why the critics should never...EVVVERRRR deny my rightful place at the top of professional wrestling. Now, Pamela, if you don't mind, I have a match to prepare for... ... ... ... THAT MEANS GET THE HELL OUT OF MY DRESSING ROOM, wench!" Curt Hennig largely controlled the match through a series of cheap tricks, and through the assistance of 'Ravishing' Rick Rude, his devious manager who was always close by with the brief case to make an impact. At one point, Rick Rude was on the apron and attempted to snap the Rude Awakening on Booker T, who pushed Rude off the apron and into the steel guardrail. Hennig came from behind looking for an inside cradle, but Booker kicked out. Hennig then sent Booker into the ropes and Booker came back with a thundering missile drop kick to the head of Hennig. Booker started spinning around on the mat to propel himself up, and as Hennig slowly got up, Booker hit the Book-End, and quickly covered Hennig for a meritorious victory. Result: Your winner, Booker T
After the commentators hyped the courageous victory by Booker T, our cameras panned to the rafters. It seemed to me that the match was booked to highlight Thrillapalooza's expertise in using the ladder to hit high flying spots, and the Extreme Innovators having an extreme desire to drive fellows through the table. This was just an intense match, in some ways very surprising to see this array of weapons used in such a variety of ways. The risk with this type of match in the midcard is of burning a crowd out quickly, and this risk seemed to be very close to being expended here on this Pay-Per-View. Almost thankfully, Saturn put Chavo Guerrero Jr through the table, and the match moved to outside the ring, away from the ladders to slow it down somewhat. Much like the opening match this match featured little in the way of tag psychology in the opening few minutes, as referee Mickey Jay lost complete and utter control of the match. Eventually, after Saturn had put Chavo through a table, the match subsided in pace and sanity prevailed. The tag selections were curious, but it seemed that Thrillapalooza and the Extreme Innovators were keen to keep tagging themselves in and out quickly, working together to tire out Rey Mysterio Jr and Chavo Guerrero Jr. Indeed, the commentators struggled to see how they could find a way out of this quandry. The match started to pick up with a series of counters, and then the ladder was brought back into the ring. Initially Perry Saturn used it to knock both Chavo and Jerry Lynn out of the ring, with Lynn grabbing Kanyon and taking him by the hair to the floor also. This left Rey, Perry Saturn and Kidman in the ring. Kidman and Rey immediately started to sprint up the ladder, but Saturn tilted the ladder sending both men tumbling to the top steel rope. Kidman hit the rope, and continued onto the outside. Rey though catapulted back in. This left Perry Saturn with an easy look at the Championships. He started to climb the ladder slowly but surely, but as he did, Jerry Lynn made a desperate dash into the ring. He got in and tilted the ladder, and Saturn fell to the mat. Kanyon raced back in the ring, but Jerry Lynn hit an attractive innovative cradle type backbreaker on Kanyon, a move that no doubt would have impressed the innovator himself. Lynn then slowly, but surely started climbing, and despite a desperate last subconscious dig by Kanyon to get to the ladder, Lynn was able to get hold of the titles. But the titles were stubborn, and would not detach, allowing Chavo Guerrero a chance to race back into the ring, and start climbing up the ladder. Lynn dropped down a rung and the two man began to throw lefts and rights, until Lynn was grabbed by the hair and taken down by Chavo to the mat. What carnage! Rey got up slowly, and paced over to the ladder. With carnage all around him, he started climbing to the top, and when he got there, released the Championships, to record a momentous Championship defence! Result: Your winners, and STILL WCW Tag Team Champions, Rey Mysterio Jr and Chavo Guerrero Jr
After a post match replay of the ending to the match, we cut straight to the back where Pamela Paulshock was running (and bouncing) to the scene of a backstage incident. What could it be? The WCW top brass had shouted pizza? Some wrestler had forgotten his tights and was about to jump the shark career wise? Nope, it was 'The Human Suplex' Machine Taz, and once more he was choking out Scott Steiner. Steiner was trying to break Taz's grasp, but the nWo hitman was intent on creating a name for himself by taking down an apparent big cheese. Schiavone hyped that Scott Steiner had gained a reputation of being a suplex specialist, and that this was the cause of Taz's frustrations. Eventually, Doug Dillenger and the fun police arrived, leaving Scott Steiner to gag to try and get normal breathing back.
WCW Television Championship 'Latino Heat' Eddie Guerrero (c) v Disco Inferno Disco was hit early as he was distracted by Kimberly Page, and we wondered whether that streak of being easily distracted was about to come back and haunt Disco. But despite being jumped early on, Disco found soul, heh, get it? He found heart and withstood a brutal attack from Eddie. Eddie tried for numerous falls, but Disco kept getting his shoulders up. Infact, when Eddie began getting frustrated, Disco pointed to the Championship belt and told Eddie he would not give up this chance. Eddie continued on taking the fight to Disco, who intermittently started finding spots of momentum, but inevitably Eddie would find ways to drive the match in his favour, using all kinds of tricks and devices. Eddie went for Disco's own Chartbuster, but Disco was able to hold onto the top rope to avoid being slammed head first into the mat. Eddie then got up, and Disco tried his own, but Eddie ducked, hit the ground and brutally hit a low blow on Disco who slumped to the mat. Eddie began to smile and celebrate with the crowd as he headed towards the corner post, but as he did, Kimberly Page got on the apron and hit a devastating low blow of her own on Eddie, who slumped straight to the mat in agony. Disco got up, and pulled a cup out from his pants, and threw it to the ground. He then picked up the white as a ghost Guerrero and dropped him with the Chartbuster! Kimberly Page, the great equaliser, and this amazing run is over! Result: Your winner, and NEW WCW Television Champion, Disco Inferno
After the match, we watched replays of the cruel low blow landed by Kimberly Page. "What a lucky guy," Bobby Heenan commented. "How do you figure that?" Tony Schiavone asked. "She's a beauty, and she's just gone for his crown jewels," Heenan retorted. The replay shows Eddie Guerrero's eyes almost popping out as Kimberly hits the low blow, which the commentators conclude has ultimately cost him his Television Championship. Kimberly Page wraps herself around Disco Inferno, whose eyes are teary as he holds the WCW Television Championship skyward, as he leaves the ring. "This guy has been ridiculed, he's been criticised, but guys, this last couple of months has seen a complete and utter transformation in Disco Inferno," Mike Tenay comments. "There's never been any doubting his ability, and now there's no denying his ability to concentrate. He's a true people's champion guys, he has fought through adversity, been written off and now he's bounced back. Guys, lets not forget, what a great run this has been from Eddie Guerrero, perhaps one of the greatest Television Champions of all time." Both teams seemed nervous of one another, before Nash finally hooked up with Goldberg, in a show down that the entire world of wrestling had wanted to see. The big hoss Nash against the invincible Goldberg. These two teased the match, but ultimately did not show the fans who would come out on top, as both men tagged in Hall and Flair quickly. The two dirty player exponents scrapped like old dogs, this was not classic wrestling, but it was vintage old school style wrestling. Eventually the veteran Flair was worn down and tormented into the corner by the Outsiders. The Outsiders exchanged a series of quick tag and isolated Flair into the corner, with Nash using his knees, hips and elbows to compound the pain on Flair. The crowd started getting behind Flair, but three times he tried to respond and get to the corner, but the Outsiders double teamed him and stopped it. Goldberg tried to get in and make the save, but the referee blocked it and this allowed illegal maneuvers behind the referees back to further wear down Flair. Finally Flair started to respond, and he raked the eyes of Nash, Hall raced in and Flair raked his eyes too. Flair was spent and he dropped to his knees, but eventually, eventually, finally he made his way to tag in Goldberg. Hall was in his way... SPEAR! Nash came charging in, but Goldberg ducked him, and Flair raced in and helped Nash take his own momentum over the top rope. Hall got up slowly.... but he went down faster... JACKHAMMER! Wow, how do you stop this guy? Result: Your winners, Bill Goldberg and Ric Flair
Post match, 'Big Sexy' Kevin Nash confronted the dazed Scott Hall. He helped him to his feet and then started shoving the original bad guy in the chest, upset at how easily he had been beaten by Goldberg. Hall started shoving back, as the animosity spiked to a head. "STOP IT! STOP IT!" The familiar voice of 'Easy-E' Eric Bischoff could be heard. Indeed the diminutive leader of the nWo headed down to the ring unannounced, in his WCW production attire. "Wait a sec.. he's.. he's not meant to be here," Tony Schiavone commented. "Well I don't think he thought Nash would react like this," Mike Tenay offered. Once in the ring, Bischoff stood between the simmering Nash and Hall, Nash's look at contempt and disgust spewed all over his face. "What the hell is going on?" Bischoff asked. "You two men are the foundation of this evolution, and you're going to let this get the better of you?" "Eric," Nash retorted. "What happened out here was a traves.." "Whoa whoa, hold up chico," Hall interrupted. "Shut up the both of you!" Bischoff slammed! "Truly, shut up the both of you. You think I'm going to let this match come between the two of you? You're sadly mistaken. You think I'm going to let this match bring down the nWo? Uh-uh, not going to happen. And if you think that you guys have lost out from tonight.... Ric Flair, wait till you see what I have in store for you boys on Monday Nitro. You see, Kev, Scott, I'm always one step ahead of the situation, and I'm sure you two boys will agree, if you just stay the road a little longer, by tomorrow night your view on things will be entirely different!" Nash and Hall looked at each other once more, before smiling as we cut to the back. ---------------------------- "It worked?" Diamond Dallas Page is heard talking on a cell phone. "Good... good. Look, I gotta go, but I'll take to you later. This surprise is going to be huuugggeee!" What you get is extreme satisfaction for Raven, you see this is the Bowery Death Match. And these two men used the weapons to all kinds of levels. This was a pure hardcore slug fest. No quarters asked for, none given. Raven was extremely innovative in his use of the steel mesh and the weapons. He was in his element, and the veteran Page was struggling to find a way out of the conundrum he found himself in. But he battled gamely, fighting back as best he could. His use of the weaponry wasn't as savage as the specialist Page's use of the weapons, but it was still fairly effective and still quite brutal. It's hard in this match to measure a hardcore performance because Raven basically is the master and being compared to him in this type of match is difficult. Both men were seeping with blood, and struggling to stay on their feet before too long. Raven was using the kendo stick to hammer the back of Page, and when Page finally got an opportunity he put the steel rubbish can on the head of Raven and swung the kendo stick over the top of it, causing enormous headaches for Raven, literally. Page resorted to old school brutality, forgoing the weapons and instead using the cage as a cheese grater on the face of Raven. You could see the wounds opening up, deep and wide. If this was a normal match, the match would be stopped due to the nature of the wounds Raven had been inflicted. But he carried out, blinded slightly, but resilitently using trash cans, broom handles, kendo sticks and yes, kitchen sinks to maim Page. After a brutal encounter, Raven staggered, blinded more and more as the match went on. He tried to go for the Evenflow, but DDP thrust himself out of it. He tried again, but Page pushed Raven off into the corner. As Raven responded back, Page threw a steel chair at his head, which Raven caught, and Page jumped forward and drop kicked the chair into his head! As Raven staggered, Page grabbed Raven and Diamond Cut him face first into the steel chair, which was still half propped up! Raven's face had the eery smile, but he was clearly knocked out, as Page staggered over for the cover, which he duly got. Result: Your winner, Diamond Dallas Page
As WCW crew staff slid into the ring to help soak up the blood, and EMT's raced to the ring to clamp down on the wounds of the competitors, we cut to the back where Pamela Paulshock stood by with the challenger to the WCW United States Championship, 'Macho Man' Randy Savage, who had with him the extremely vervacious Miss Elizabeth. "Macho Man, tonight you will face Chris Benoit in the next match for the WCW United States Championship," Paulshock discusses. "Various professional wrestling media outlets have suggested that this may be your last chance at such a prestigious Championship. What do you have to say to that?" "My LAST chance, yeah? Pamela Paulshock, I could snap into a Slim Jim's over the neck of the pencil neck geeks who yeah think that about OOOH YEAH the Macho Man! Pamela Paulshock! I've been knocked down before yeah..." "So you've been knocked down, but you got up again, I guess they're never going to keep you down?" Pamela asks foolishly not realising she's just got WCW sued by the Chumba Wumba society. "YEAHHH! I've survived them all, yeah, I've had Hulk Hogan, I've survived him yeah. I've been retired yeah and I've found a way back in. When the madness runs through your veins yeah like it runs through mine, there is tomorrow, there is no surrender! THERE IS NO SURRENDER! Yeah, but that's not what's going to happen tonight. Tonight! Tonight! We find out if Chris Benoit is an immortal yeah. You see, to be an immortal you have to go past a legend. A proven sadistic madman who has the power of the professional wrestling world yeah in the palm of his hands yeah! Chris Benoit, tonight is your greatest challenge. How will you be remembered? Think about that when you're lying on your back looking up at the lights... YEAH! DIG IT!"
WCW United States Championship 'Rabid Wolverine' Chris Benoit (c) v 'Macho Man' Randy Savage After an initial physical examination by Randy Savage, not including a proctology inspection, the match settled down into a very good match. Savage tried to take the physicality to Benoit, who returned serve with some blistering reverse knife edge chops. Benoit tried to keep the veteran moving, using a lot of chain wrestling and hitting and running with drop kicks until he could drive Savage to the mat. From there, Benoit was able to demonstrate a wide variety of his mat wrestling holds, impressing all, perhaps even Randy Savage who battled gamely to try and break the holds. It seemed everytime Randy tried to break free from Benoit that the United States Champion had a counter, or a roll through hold of one form or another that would further drive down the veteran. The commentators wondered whether Randy, in his extensive career had ever been controlled like this on the mat. Finally, Savage was able to find a way back to a wide vertical base and he began to elbow his way out. Savage then took Benoit to the floor and tried to use a last attempt at skullduggery on the outside to control Benoit. It appeared to be working too, Savage controlled the 10 count by rolling back in and out of the ring and used the steel steps and guardrails to slow down Benoit. Eventually he hauled Benoit back in and power slammed him. He then headed to the top, and went for the Flying Elbow Smash, but Benoit moved at the last second. Both men writhed on the mat in agony, before finally making it up at the 8 count. Savage and Benoit went toe to toe, blow for blow with rights and lefts, before Benoit quickly reverted to his reverse knife edge chops. Finally, as Savage doubled over, Benoit was able to hit his multiple german suplexes. With Savage down on the mat, Benoit went up top and hit the staggering diving headbutt! After writhing in pain, Benoit finally rolled over and locked Savage up with the Crippler Crossface, and the legend was unable to respond except to tap. Result: Your winner, and STILL WCW United States Champion, Chris Benoit
After the match, as Chris Benoit held aloft the WCW United States Championship, he stood over the top of Randy Savage, to see if the veteran was okay. Benoit pulled Savage up, who assumed Benoit was going to launch an attack. Savage turned to deck Benoit, but stopped as the crowd's vibe halted him. Benoit stood in the middle of the ring perplexed, before Savage asked the crowd for their opinion of Benoit as a Champion. The crowd voiced approval, so Savage held Benoit's arm aloft, giving him the rub onwards and upwards.
WCW World Heavyweight Championship 'Lionheart' Chris Jericho (c) v Sting After lengthy entrance sequences, Sting and Jericho circled the ring before hooking up as the crowd erupted. Sting quickly pushed Jericho back into the corner, as Jericho complained of a hair pull. Referee Nick Patrick separated the two, giving Jericho time to sneak attack Sting to grab the ascendency. The wiley Champion then ground Sting to the mat to his use his excellent mat skills, but what he didn't account for was Sting is no fool on the mat either, and after a few good hammer locks and bow and arrow locks from Jericho, Sting was able to counter and he found himself immediately in a position to put on the Scorpion Death Lock! Sting nearly got him over, he's turning, turning, turning... Jericho quickly pressed up and kicked Sting in the back and the force sent Sting into the turnbuckle, Sting rebounded back, Jericho rolled him up...1...2... thr.. NO! After this initial encounter, Jericho headed to the floor to regain his thoughts, and steer clear of the fired up Sting. Jericho realised that he had nearly lost his World Heavyweight Championship by trying to out mat wrestle Sting, and he sought time out to rethink his strategy. Finally, Sting came to the outside and chased Jericho back in, but as Sting got up on the apron, Jericho was already established in the ring and he butted the chest of Sting. Jericho then raced to the outside and hit a drop kick, sending Sting cartwheeling into the guardrail behind him. Jericho then raced back, and came back with a stunning corkscrew plancha over the top, pancaking Sting back into the guardrail. Both men hit the guardrail hard, and as the referee counted, Jericho opened his eyes, and his eyes showed deceit and craft as he tried to hold Sting down, knowing that a double count out would keep the Championship with Jericho. But Sting came to, and started punching Jericho, who fought back, but Sting gained enough control to be able to grab Jericho by the hair and roll back into the ring. Jericho slapped the ring in frustration, cursing his luck. The match rolled on and on with constant momentum shifts. Sting tried to slow down the effervescent Jericho, using the mat and corners as allies in a display of crafty psychological warfare. Jericho for his part resorted to cheap tactics, but then tried to take apart the knee of Sting, knowing if he could destablise Sting's knee then he could potentially limit the opportunity for the Scorpion Death Lock. Sting began to feel the effects and slumped to the mat, and then rolled out to recuperate. Jericho was having none of it and followed him out, tossing him into the steel steps at ringside. He then rolled Sting back in near the corner, moved the steel steps, before holding one aloft and thrusting it against the knee of Sting who screamed in absolute agony. The referee begged Jericho to release, but Jericho knew if he was disqualified he would retain. Sting begged Nick Patrick to not disqualify Jericho, and somehow plucked up the courage to kick the steps back, and knocking Jericho head first into the steel guardrail. Nick Patrick again began administering the 10 count, but Sting again asked him to refrain. Patrick told him the only way he could stop it was if Sting was outside. Sting limped to the corner, and somehow mounted the top turnbuckle. Oh my... Oh my... No way... As Jericho stood up, Sting flew from the top extraordinarily to the outside hitting a missile drop kick. Sting landed hard, but Jericho crashed his head against the steel guardrail. Sting limped, and got up, and grabbed Jericho, throwing him back into the ring. Sting tried to stretch out the leg, and began pumelling Jericho in retaliation for the cheap tactics being used. You could sense the discord and disdain of Sting of Jericho for the tactics he was employing. Sting began taunting Jericho, challenging his previous claim that he was a fighting champion. Jericho could audibly be heard saying he was a smart champion, to which Sting responded that as much as that may be, he was not a legend. This seemed to infuriate Jericho, who got up and started throwing hard rights and lefts. No open fists, closed fists. Jericho whipped Sting into the turnbuckle head first, as the veteran dropped to the mat. Jericho went outside, and mounted a figure four leg lock around the steel ring post! Nick Patrick begged him to relent, but Jericho would not. Eventually somehow Sting summonsed the power to break free of Jericho. Sting rolled around in misery in the ring, as Jericho came back in. Jericho went to the top, and went for an amazing moonsault, which hit perfectly. Jericho writhed in pain before rolling back and covering Sting. It was a near fall as somehow Sting got his shoulders up. Jericho then went to the ropes... Lionsault from the middle rope, but Sting got his knees up in desperation. Both men stayed on the mat as Nick Patrick administered the standing 10 count. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Finally Sting wobbled up, and he grabbed Jericho by the hair. With a limp and a cringe, he sent Jericho into the corner. He raced it valiantly... STINGER SPLASH! He sent Jericho back in... STINGER SPLASH! Jericho wobbled, and Sting hit the Scorpion Death Drop! Sting then grabbed the boots of Jericho, and turned him over! Scorpion Death Lock! It was locked in. Jericho cringed in agony. He fought, and fought, but he could not turn over Sting. Jericho somehow found enough energy to crawl and crawl to the ropes, but Sting hauled him back. Jericho tried again, and got closer, and you could see the misery on his face. But amazingly, he lunged out and grabbed the rope. Sting thought he had won and held his arms aloft, but he hadn't, and Jericho quickly rolled Sting up...1..2....thr...NO! Jericho turned over on Sting and started pumelling his face, before limping to his feet. He ran stodgily to the ropes... Lionsault! He tried then to turn Sting over... Lion-Tamer! He got it locked on, and in the middle of the ring, and as the look of exasperation passed over Sting's face, eventually with the technical proficiency in which Jericho had the hold on, he had no choice but to finally, finally, after a belated wait, tap, giving Jericho more time as the World Heavyweight Champion! Result: Your winner, and STILL WCW World Heavyweight Champion, Chris Jericho
Post match, 'Lionheart' Chris Jericho merely dropped to his knees and fell face first in exhaustion on the mat. -------------------------------- Before we faded out, we went to the back, where 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair was pacing up and down in the Four Horsemen dressing room. "What the hell did he mean? What the hell is this about?" A clearly animated Flair asked, as we faded out. I think you and I both need help! :p Either that, or you need a new keyboard?!! :D Thanks once again guys, I really, really enjoyed putting that show together. As I've suggested along this long and winding road (cheap Beatles plug), all roads lead towards Starrcade. Starrcade to me was the epitome event of WCW started off with "A Flair for the Gold" back in '83, and I want to establish the show as I guess, the counter to Wrestlemania, where things are booked towards and the end product is very creative and very well done. At times that has meant some things haven't been done logically for the time, and I apologise for that, but I'm really getting excited by what's coming together now. My booking style is overly simplistic, I'm no Dan Brown or Agatha Christie in putting together mystery sagas, but I just hope things now are making sense and have a logical plot. Once again, thanks a bunch.

Welcome everybody to another commercial free, realistic view of the world of professional wrestling. That's right fans, this report is often imitated, never duplicated, and I can assure you I will not give you any BBQ recipes on my column. You want wrestling, that's what I'm going to give you, the greatest $4.99 you could possibly spend in receiving this quality report. Might I add, for a further $23.55, you can charge your VISA or Mastercard for our first ever DVD production, WCW/nWo Halloween Havoc, which came to you live last night from San Jose, California. This is exclusively available on www.wcw.com, as is new feature wrestler t-shirts on such talents as 'Latino Heat' Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio Jr, Disco Inferno, Renegade, Super Calo and much much more. - Firstly, a big thanks to www.wcw.com presenters Scott Hudson, who is doing a great job filling in for Mark Madden, and Jeremy Borash for getting me back safely to my hotel last night. Old Tony had a few too many lemonades last night. Truthfully, I think they may have been spiked, because it usually takes 5 or 6 glasses of lemonade to get me tipsy. Thanks again to the boys at Sprite for all your support. And yes fans, I plan to be fit to broadcast Monday Nitro, I would not like to leave my loyal fans in the lurch, I know how reassuring it is to have the experienced voice bring you the events as they happen. - I have it on good authority that Backstreet Boys will be performing at World War III. Personally, I hope we get All I have to Give, which is a personal favourite of mine. Backstreet Boys, through a special licensing agreement with WCW, have made some of their singles available for purchase in WCW shops in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Charlotte, Colburn Indiana and Hazard, Nebraska. - What a phenomenal main event we had last night. I would like to give a very serious round of applause to Sting and Chris Jericho. Sting has been with the organisation for a decade or so now, and as far as I'm concerned he's becoming the new Ric Flair in being the franchise of WCW. Night in, night out you know what to expect from Sting. You can see more of Sting in The Real Reason (Men Commit Crimes) on VHS which is on sale now at www.wcw.com - I'd like to send out a quick cheerio to Arn Anderson, Mark Madden and my pal 'Mean' Gene Okerlund who have all suffered heinous injuries recently at the hands of the Outsiders. I cannot say how happy I was to see the two of them beaten last night. Yeah, take that! - Further to that match, what on earth could Eric Bischoff's announcement be? I asked Pamela Paulshock for what she thought it could be, but she seemed confused by the whole ordeal. I'm predicting that Eric will announce that Wrath will join Bill Goldberg and quite possibly Chris Jericho at Starrcade for the World Heavyweight Championship. Wrath is the future, he is a product of WCW's own Power Plant, and I'm proud to say that we sat next to each other on a recent flight to a Monday Nitro show, and boy, I can attest to the fact that he's not only big, he's enormous. It blew my mind seeing his sheer size. He's like a horse of some kind. Anyhow, that's enough of the ground breaking news and also the logical responses to all the major rumours going around, once again, thanks for your payment of $4.99 (which from next month becomes $6.49 but you won't care), I am grateful for your support and look forward to talking through your television screens to you on Monday Nitro. Yours truly, TS You're getting very dizzy... You're going under... You will pay $6.49 without question You will buy The Real Reason (Men Commit Crimes) You will buy Backstreet's Back from www.wcw.com You will buy a Renegade shirt

Hammerstein Haddock was a great show my friend! As for your booking style, I personally think it is exactly what WCW needed at the time. If they followed your booking I'm sure they would have been around a hell of a lot longer. If they followed my booking....well, the less said about that the better! We'll I found a **** load of fortune cookies out the back of the chinese chippy, so I decided to let them make my predictions for me dude. Masahiro Chono v Bret 'The Hitman' Hart Argh, even the chinese hate Chono! Wait...he's Japanese you say? Chinese, Japanese...whats the difference my South African friend? Fortune cookie says:You have a curious smile and a mysterious nature. Sounds like Bret to me! WCW Cruiserweight Championship: Jushin 'Thunder' Lyger (c) v Ultimo Dragon Cookie says:Happiness is not the absence of conflict, but the ability to cope with it. Lyger has the ability to cope without his boyfriend Dean Malenko and picks up the victory. Raven v 'Das Wunderkind' Alex Wright The cookie reads:You have a reputation for being straightforward and honest. Well, Raven's promo's are far from straightforward! And honest? Give me a break! It must mean a victory for the German Wunderkind. The Extreme Innovators (Perry Saturn and 'The Innovator of Offence' Chris Kanyon) v Thrillapalooza (Jerry Lynn and Billy Kidman) Cookie Says: The joyful energy of the day will have a positive affect on you. Whose got more joyful energy than these two? WCW Television Championship: Disco Inferno (c) v 'Latino Heat' Eddie Guerrero The cookie says: Hard words break no bones, fine words butter no parsnips. There have indeed been harsh words between the two, yet no bones have been broken. Try as he might, Eddie cannot butter Kim's Parsnips! The Giant v Lizmark Jr Cookie reads: This is really a lovely day. Congratulations! Erm...maybe the giant likes cookies? 'Lord' Steven Regal v Scott Steiner Cookie says: Never quit! Wise words for Steiner, who will be tested to his breaking point by the technical wizard from Blackpool. 'K-Dawg' Konnan v Booker T The cookie says: The important thing is to never stop questioning. Now CAN YOU DIG THAT......SUUUCKAAAAAAH??????? Buff 'The Stuff' Bagwell v Bill Goldberg The cookie reads: There are no shortcuts to any place worth going. Perhaps Bagwell learns to step up his game after this brutal defeat.

Monday. The day after our epic Halloween Havoc extravaganza. Our production crew is already assembling in the state capital of Sacramento. The glitz and glamour of Monday Nitro will come to life in about nine hours. There will be pyrotechnics, there will be ground breaking conflict, there will be sexy women, there will be extreme adulation, it is the perceived world of the showtime that is seen to be professional wrestling. Indeed, I am writing to you this piece from our private learjet. On board is myself, Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan, Larry Zbysko, Dusty Rhodes, Scott Hudson and Jeremy Borash. We are the play by play men of various formats within WCW's media conglomerate. Life is sweet. It's a high rolling lifestyle, and as you all know we certainly get the babes too. Of course, some of us are married.... Fast forward back to reality. The fact is today I'll be sharing a beat up 1991 GM pick-up truck as I leave my three star motor inn. The reason for this is I wanted to ensure I got the story I needed to fulfill my obligations with WCW Magazine. You see, one of the most misinterpreted stars of this generation happens to be riding alongside me, and while some of the crew have taken more expensive transportation, and had classier accommodation, the fact is out on the road you go to what you can afford. Or in this wrestler's case, what suits you. We are leaving three hours behind schedule today, because the wrestler I am going with spent last night under intense doctor's surveillance for concussion, extreme loss of blood, and a partial tear to his left ear. In most professional sports the victimisation this athlete went through last night would warrant three months on the sideline and a long term suspension for his opponent. In the world of professional wrestling however, this is a brutal lifestyle that is often repeated. The wrestler I am going with though enjoys the lifestyle. This guy comes from the pits of hell. Sure, it's downtown New York, such a great city that is immediately emblazoned in our eyes by the legendary Chairman of the Board himself, Frank Sinatra. It's the home of the Yankees, Time Square, Brooklyn Bridge, South Street Seaport, lady Liberty herself. It's the city of bright lights, the city that never sleeps. To many millions its a fantastic home. But for some from the likes of Harlem, parts of the Bronx, and for this wrestler, the Bowery, it's an invitation to learn from the pits of hell how to survive, evolve, and become a success story. "It was a modern day Shakespearean tragedy," Raven commented as we hit the heights of San Jose on our northbound journey to Sacramento. There would be no stop offs to San Francisco, no lunch down near the famous fishmarkets, just a few paracetemols and various protein snacks to help the body regenerate before it was thrown away mercilessly again in Sacramento. But there was no tinge of sadness in Raven's voice, you see, Raven is evolving. He knows now of his mission. To help set certain imbalances right, just like he tried to last night with the biggest Benedict Arnold of them all, a man who cowered under the blanket of misery in vein hope of being picked up again, Diamond Dallas Page. "But I figure, I don't have to follow the typical plot and become another Othello," he says. "I have seen the light, I have seen reality, I can either keep blaming the situation I was in or I can accept it, and take the strengths I can from it to become a stronger person. I hope my fans can see that, so that when that liberating steel chair crushes my skull down they know that I have fought for the cause of justice. To slightly twist something Roosevelt said, the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. So I copped twenty four stitches last night, so what? I can tell you that other son of a [censored] copped more than the physical brutality that I endured. He endured it too, but when I looked across that ring, I knew I had challenged his integrity, and deep down, he knows it too." Life has always been tough for Raven, he's never had things laid on a platter for him, and he's learned to fight life's fights physically, and now mentally. Make no mistake about it, the man I am talking to is a sadistic, dangerous character. Stand aside the chairs, the kendo sticks, the garbage cans, the kitchen sinks, inside that squared circle he is like a cobra circling his prey waiting to pounce with the Evenflow DDT, a move once described to me by a wrestler who had suffered it as being so forceful that for minutes afterwards, let alone three seconds, it felt as if your entire mental hard drive had been wiped out. The wrestler who suffered it on a WCW International taping before Raven was as over as he is now said the rewiring of his mental systems by the sheer impact of the head crushing against the mat had him struggling to identify that a full bladder, the pain of a full bladder, should be met with the behaviour of going to the toilet. He struggled to put words together, he struggled to walk straight, he didn't know his own name. That is the power of the Evenflow, perhaps second only to the Diamond Cutter in terms of head trauma in professional wrestling. "I love the psychology of it all," he claims. "When I look in my opponents eyes and you can see into his core, you realise life is not that bad after all. So I don't have a Rolex watch, I don't eat Cavear, so when I was a kid I didn't have a stable childhood... so what? I identify with all the crowd, some of them have had it all, a lot have been just like me and are trying to turn around history and make a play. But pretty much every man, woman and child who sits in that arena cheers for the embattled man, and I hope it educates them. Those people who will be there tonight, they won't know that I have trouble balancing myself after how savagely I was beaten last night. They won't know of the cups of blood I lost. But what they will know, vicariously through me, through integrity and the courage to fight the immorals of this world, we can all do something about it." As I drove the stretching highways, I found myself being drawn in by Raven. He is an emotive figure and it is almost impossible not to find yourself listening and understanding. Before I had this trip, I struggled to understand why a man would be glad to take a chair shot to the head. I didn't understand how a man could smile as a staple rattled into his skull. I didn't understand how a man who had nothing, could have it all. I wondered why a mainstream professional sports athlete would choose to stay in a dirty run down motor inn whose bed was as hard as concrete. As far as the accommodation went, he knew the only bed he would see that night would be at the local hospital. He knows the pain he goes through opens the way for others to see the light. After riding Down the Wrestling Highway with Raven, I suddenly knew the answer to so many basic psychological questions on this extreme warfare we call professional wrestling. Some call it sports entertainment, but make no mistake, this is barbaric primary psychological warfare. And this suits Raven, from the Bowey to Sacramento.
